Have been to this place a few times now since moving to Surry hills and the only consistent thing about this place is the service. Each time I was made to wait whilst they continued to have a casual chat with a customer that had already ordered, and was never acknowledged. After waiting a few minutes after the chat had seemingly ended, still no acknowledgment so I just had to awkwardly blurt out my order. Very slow service, and no acknowledgment when giving you the coffee, even after saying “thanks”. I’m not asking for a lengthy chat but a simple “hi” would be nice. But not once, any of the times I’ve been there. The only saving grace is the coffee is reasonable, but not on par with the seeming arrogance that the staff (and I think owner) treat the space and other customers. Avoid this place, there is better service and better coffee just 10 steps across the road.

I like the coffee, just wish they used a different oat milk than Minor Figures. Would love to go back there if they did

It's the best coffee I've had in Sydney and I've had a LOT. Staff are wicked and the roast is unreal, smooth, no bite literally never had an average cup from here.

It is really similar with Artificial cafe. It is not my type. But my friends liked though.

Strong heavy coffee with an interesting but sharp flavour. It's not bad but I was expecting something spectacular at $4 for a rather small cup.

The Spot: inconspicuous hole-in-the-wall, essentially no seating available obviously purposed for on-the-go coffee

The Service: pleasant and approachable, no hint of that ?fashionably glum affectation that often resides in the industry

The Drink: small strong latte, perfect temperature, perfect strength, smoothness equivalent to slipping into clean bedsheets post-full-plain-shave into which I will weep because I neither live nor work in the area to enjoy this every day.

To be honest, not sure why I took the .5 off - I think it's just out of principle?

If you're just looking for a coffee but you can't be bothered sitting in a busy cafe waiting 10 minutes for a brew, then pop down to Neighbourhood by Sean McManus and you'll have what you want in less than two, and it might be the best you'll have all day.

It's literally grab and go kind of sitch, unless you're one of the lucky few to grab a seat to have a good old yarn with the baristas. It's also super close to central station, which means you won't have to go far to satisfy that caffeination crave.

Recommendation: any coffee with any Penny Fours pastry.

Read more reviews like this at kerabeareats.com

@kerabeareats on Instagram

It's my first 5 star review and I have to give it to my favourite hot chocolate maker!! Sean McManus you got the perfect formula and skills! Go have his hot chocolate it's the bestest best in town.

I mean, come on, it's a Sean McManus's place, everyone loves coffee knows about this coffee monster, there's no possibility that he's not making the perfect coffee amongst Sydney

It was unbelievably amazing! The Kenyan espresso I had was super clean, so juicy and lingering pleasantly. Of course, it was the greatest customer service ever. Well done boys!

Super cute hold in the wall coffee bar serving pretty coffees with wonderful latte art. The latte is $3.80 and it feels very hipster sitting on the footpath sipping my coffee which sits neatly on a log. They serve pastries there too.

I reckon these guys are one of the best coffee bars in the world. No doubt. Amazing coffee, great service and awesome tiny sitting area. Yay.

Thanks to @m_cookie_cookson from Welcome Dose for the coffee tip in recommending this place. Pretty much a hole in the wall but run by a friendly dynamic duo. The design of the shop is pretty schmick. Cappuccino ($3.80) a bit pricer than the norm for a small but very well made and great flavour to kick start the day. A tempting looking plain Croissant ($5) by Penny Fours becomes a must for me and goes down well for some extra morning carbs. There's very limited seating outside so these guys are all about the take away coffee fix or just linger and have a friendly chat with the locals swarming to this place.
