I had the Salmon Bento. Loved it. My friend has the chicken katsu curry and we shared a plate of fried tofu and chicken karaage. I loved everything except the karaage. It looked very promising but it was soggy and had no crunch.

Honestly the best Japanese food I've had in Melbourne so far. This is our go to place when we feel like Japanese.
It's always busy here, for good reason.
The service is super friendly and efficient even though they do get busy.
The food is just amazing. I always get the chicken bento box which is such good value for money. The chicken is grilled with a sweet soy sauce, and includes salad, sushi, rice and miso soup.
I would highly recommend Uchiwa to everyone.
Tried a number of meals here. Bento box beef and chicken was nice. Generous offering for the price. Udon noodles with beef broth was most enjoyable. Overall inexpensive tasty meal.

Fast service. Waitress was pleasing and accommodating. Place was small and a bit dark, but clean and has authentic Japanese feel. I ordered tonkatsu bento. I enjoyed it very much. Complete with tea and miso soup. Fairly priced.
Really good food + friendly service! Prices were very reasonable and will be coming back again for sure.

We love Uchiwa! We have been here a number of times and always been very happy. The Chicken Udon is excellent! Good friendly service. We like the fact that it is small.
I absolutely love this little shop and I can never understand the poor reviews as I have received excellent service and excellent food every time. It is my go to for a quick meal (especially sushi rolls) and I love how they will make any sushi roll I like, right in front of me and fast. I also like how they are set up for take away at the front and the restaurant seating is down the back. None of that awkward making your way through the whole restaurant and past all the diners to grab your takeaway order. I highly recommend giving this place a go!

Myself and my fam love this sushi place! Sushi is made right in front of you and everything taste fresh and delightful, ahhh it's soo good! The staff are lovely and welcoming as well. If you want fresh sushi come to this place:)
We were very impressed with our first visit to Uchiwa. The restaurant is a little on the small side, but as there was only 2 of us we really liked the atmosphere. The service was very friendly, providing us with complimentary green tea while we decided on the menu which we thought was a nice touch. The chicken Karage was served fresh and tasty. The Teriake beef bento box was outstanding as was the pork curry. We left here satisfied and happy with everything overall. I would not recommend this restaurant for larger groups as there isn't the seating space, but for quality food this place is a winner!
Came here with a group of 8 on a Friday night with advanced booking, but it was a very tight squeeze to fit 8 of us in their tables. The restaurant is very small so a maximum group of six would be dining more comfortably. I noticed many customers were also getting takeaway too.
They served complimentary tea and staff were very patient and friendly. I had their tonkatso bento box ($14) which I felt could have been more larger in portion for the price you pay. Their sushi and unagi were fairly average, but the tonkatsu saved the dish.
Delicious and fresh salmon sushi from this local restaurant. California rolls we're also quite tasty. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for good Japanese in the suburbs.
All of the dish prices are considered very cheap, they even provide free pot of tea to drink! Staffs there are very attentive and kind, would definitely come back~ ❤
Been meaning to visit this new local japanese spot. Pretty blown away. Food is fresh and portions are huge. I got the katsu don and the crunch was awesome. Cost $11. Only thing is its pretty hard to find a menu online so ill take a menu away n stick it on here.

First time coming here today and the food was simply fantastic! You could tell the sashimi🍣 from the bento🍱 was fresh just by looking at it, and the moment I tasted it, I fell in sushi love💚 The broccoli in the salad, however, was a bit on the raw side- only complaint.
In the second photo, the Katsu don was crisp and the chicken inside was fresh and tender. The rice🍚 complimented the chicken🍗 and egg🍳 really well.
The Tempura Udon🍜🍤 was our least favourite though, because only after finishing eating I discovered a tingly unpleasant feeling upon my tongue, realising it was MSG from the soup. I was a bit disappointed! On the other hand, the fried tempura was delish!
Upon savouring the last bites of dinner, my friend bought two sushi rolls that had been made 5 minutes previously to take home for her husband. They seemed incredibly fresh and the salmon looked beautifully juicy.
Overall: would I come back here again? Oh you betcha! But not for the noodle soup, only for the rice dishes and sushi that are hand made daily.
Nice, tasty and affordable meals. Has the general casual feeling of any ‘cheap eats’ place and great to visit for a quick lunch.

We were in the area on a rainy Saturday afternoon, and needed to grab a quick bite for lunch. We walked in only to be surprised. We had chicken Katsu Don, Beef Steak, and Grilled Salmon Bento. We left pleased but at the same time wanting more...

The food at Uchiwa was amazing! The japanese curry was out of this world, I’ve had a lot of Japanese food and this is actually in my top 3 best food.
Really well priced, the portion sizes are good and the flavor has a lot of love. We were even discussing to buy take-away after our lunch so we could eat again for dinner haha

Excellent, high quality dishes and very reasonably priced. I ordered the teriyaki beef don which was excellent. The staff are lovely and friendly. Will be returning soon to try more from the menu.
