Review Kuza Urban Japanese Food - Victoria Park

Awesome Japanese restaurant with good service and good quality of food and drinks. Very dish was mind blowing! I I’ll definitely down to come back and try some more different dishes. Reservation is recommended.

Love the food here! We went there on busy Friday night for Christmas dinner. The food was excellent, great quality. The service was wonderful. Their dragon roll sushi and Steak tofu was the highlight of the night! Nice decoration and ambience. Our only feedback here is we had to shout to talk to each others because it's a small restaurant full of people. However it won't let us stop going there. We would be happy to not talking and enjoying the food 😁

Delicious authentic Japanese food with excellent customer service. They serve set menus during lunch at a cheaper price. You can never go wrong at Kuza's, we always come back. Highly recommended the modern Japanese restaurant in Victoria Park.

Okay, this must be the bes Japanese food experience so far in Perth! We did not have a booking so we were seated what seemed like a bar facing the food peppers. We had the Tuna sashimi salad, prawn tempura, soft shell crabs and the grilled pork belly skewers. The food were artfully prepared and tastes even better. We will definitely come back and try the other items on their menu. Their prices were relative to the other Japanese resto we went to along Albany Highway in East Victoria Park but Kuza is a whole world apart in terms of quality and service!

For this quality of food it’s too expensive I had dinner with two other friends there yesterday, we ordered 4 dishes to start with, when I eat their nigiri, I found the texture was like something wrong in my mouth, and got FISH SCALE form the sushi I ate, I told one of the staff on floor, the only feedback was “I am sorry I will let kitchen know” and then another guy from floor came to us, repeat again “ sorry for that we already told the chef” And that’s it. We were going to order something more but didn’t really feel like to anymore after. Anyways I don’t think I will come here again

Had dinner here with my 2 friend's and we absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, the service was prompt and the ambiance was spectacular. We definitely will come back again

3.5 stars Environment: morden furnished Japanese restaurant. Fine dining setting. Romantic vibe, but very packed, close distance between tables. --- 6.5/10 Service: not like Traditional Japanese restaurant. ? Run by Chinese/ Chinese /HK management. Booked the table but hadn't prepared the table until we came. Provided tap water. Know to refill tea for us. Not actively introduce dishes when taking order and serving dishes. Big room for improvement. --- 6/10 Food: good presentation. Portion and quality of food was ok. Price is at highside for service and ok food. - Lobster Sashimi, $90 (pre-ordered): when we arrived, told as the lobster was smaller than usual, so $120-> $90. Served when just seated. Not very impressive. The meat was like cut with a blunt knife. --- 7/10 - Assorted Sashimi, $49/16pcs: not big slices. The thickness was ok. --- 7/10 - Assorted Aburi Sushi $32/8pcs: by chef's selection. Didn't tell what the chef's selection were when served. Firm, not hard. Not cold. Not sour. No Wasabi inside. Some rice was burnt. --- 6.5/10 - Dynamite Rolls, $24/6pcs: not bad - Double Salmon Roll, $24/8pcs: not bad - Grilled Chicken Wings, $16/2 skewers: with spicy pepper and sea salt. OK. --- 6.5/10 - Chicken Karaage, $26: Red cabbage and mayo was served on its top. Big chucks of chicken but not very crispy. Texture was ok. I don't like mayo. --- 6/10 - Grilled Dhufish, $?: not on the menu. It's waitress's suggestion. She didn't tell us the price. Fish was good, served with rockets only. Very simple presentation and seasoning. Not very impressive. Depends on the Fish itself. --- 7.3/10 - Prawn Tempura, $36: 5 prawns and some vegetables tempura. The dipping was warm. Good portion. Crispy.--- 7.8/10 - Grilled Beef Eye Fillet Steak, $46: with Miso Bearnaise sauce & Teriyaki reduction, served with Japanese Pickled Onions, and Sweet Potato Crisps: served the last. Sweet potato slices ws crispy any yummy. A lot of Miso Bearnaise sauce & Teriyaki reduction. Steak was tender. Good portion --- 7.5/10

Sashimi is so fresh and delicious! And the Grilled Unagi was so nice. Absolutely recommended. The sauce in Wagyu beef tataki rates a bit too sour for us. But the Grilled Pork Belly barely has flavor. It’s better to have it with the sauce.

When assessing how many stars to assign the restaurant it was a case of 5* for the food, 3* for the size of the meals and 2-3* stars for the value. The food itself was indeed exquisite. My wife and I shared a lovely plate of sashimi (9 pcs $23) an extremely tasty chicken wingettes dish (4 - 2 on a skewer .. $15) plus the delicious pork n veggie gyoza ( 6 pcs - & $21). Whilst as I mentioned the food was lovely, a little direction from our waitress would have been very helpful. The menu states that plates are made for sharing - which we did - but found that we were still quite hungry after sharing these three plates. So we shared another plate, this time the exquisite (6 pcs $23) beef cheek filled gyoza. So, with our drinks we spent over $100 and we were still feeling hungry !! We have eaten at many wonderful restaurants at all different price points over our lives but very rarely (if ever) have I felt so conflicted leaving a restaurant. Stunning food, but not enough of it for what was charged. Service was okay without being of a standard one might expect from a restaurant such as Kuza. Will we be back ? TBA

Anything raw including the oyster shots..amazing! And I am not a fan of raw food. I ordered tempura veg as a safe dish for me and it was horrid..an absolute disappointment. Massive chunks of veg too big too eat..not cooked properly..just wrong. Considering everything else is done to perfection and dainty serves that dish shld not be on the menu as it is. Overall a fantastic Japanese experience

Good food but terrible service, waiter wasn't interested in serving us or taking our order and rude. When we were about to pay the lady at the counter gave us less than the 25% ebook discount even after we said there is no such thing as rounding up. The menu upfront and online is apparently for lunch only and dinner price is more than double.

Lunch was great here. Venue is clean and modern. Staff very accomodating and attentive.

Loved the food. Authentic Japanese with very generous serving. Seared salmon sushi was one of the best we've had in Perth.

Keep up the good work, Kuza! Will return again.
Holly
Loved this place! The food was delicious!!! The waiter we had was really great and helped us chose amazing dishes to try. Will definitely be back here again.

Nice little restaurant located along the cafe/restaurant strip of Victoria Park. Ample of parking as they have their own parking bays. Food is ok if you enjoy Japanese food.
Ramen98
I haven’t tried everything on the menu so I can only speak for what I have tried. My friend ordered the ramen which was below average and the chashu was extremely dry and flavourless. I ordered the soba which came in a glass jar with some sashimi scraps on top in a creamy sort of sauce, it was far overpriced for the quality, taste and serving size, I can only account it’s price for the “truffle” aspect. Takoyaki was great, with soft and supple octopus and a nice freshness. Sashimi was great, thick cut with good soy sauce on the side. Would I come here again? Probably not, but it wasn’t bad, luckily the sashimi made up for what could have been a lacklustre night.

Staff were super helpful and let us know we had the table till a certain time. Note for future book ahead. Menu is huge so multiple visits are required. Found food fresh and beef cheeks just melted in the mouth. Dessert menu was lacking the std milk chocolate and ice cream or instead of a dark chocolate cake should be dark chocolate tart with raspberry sorbet.
Steve Doherty
This is a great little venue when you want something different in your Japanese adventure. Some really different items on the menu. If you're feeling adventurous, try the oyster shots. The rolls, sushi, and sashimi are all first-rate, but it is a little pricy.
Davy
Good Japanese restaurant with all the usual stuff. Particularly like the sashimi and their selection of wines and sake. Staff are friendly but don’t know much about the menu. Not a huge issue and will return to sample more sale.
Clare-ward
Very nice meal. The sashimi and tempura was excellent. Good selection of sake. Not inexpensive but good quality and portion sizes were quite large (we ordered too much). Good service. Will return with a bigger group to try more things.
Kl
We had lunch and portions was generous. Ambiance was good and staff were friendly. Nice little place on this busy vic park strip. Tataki wagyu beef and tiger prawns roll was yum

Service was good and the food came out fast enough , the food was nice but nothing amazing I had the tuna tataki and it had loads of garlic on top which took away from the taste!

The place is pretty and close to my home. Not a fan of the sushi here, the mixed up my order, after a good amount of time they changed the Plate. The food wasn't very tasty all the sushi rolls were the same for me, the croquettes didn't have any flavour and the tempura nothing to remember. I won't go back.

Kuza was the one of restaurant I wanted to come because of good rate of the food.
Actually, the price of the zomato I had confusion... it maybe lunch price not dinner. 25 piece sashimi was $58 most of main dish was $25-30. Sashimi wasnt fresh compared to price.. decoration was nice tho. Ramen is obviously not worth to try. U better go ramen speciality restaurant. Roll was quiet good. Salmon dish and its sauce is not really good match. Salmon cooked well tho. Even main dish doesnt include any rice or miso soup or anything. Mayo sauce for chicken karage is not Japanese mayo I can tell. It's just normal cheap aussie mayo... even karage was over $20. I can say Kuza very expensive and taste isn't great. Food is just average or less but expensive. I wont recommend or come again.
I.S
Service was good. Food was average but well over priced for what you get. They have good range of drinks menu but again too expensive.
Not bad place but won’t be on my repeating list.
*Rating is 4.5*
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Perth. Funky decor and ambience and food that is consistently fresh, delicious & well presented. Personal favourite dishes are the yellowtail ceviche and salmon ceviche, grilled black cod (very similar to Nobu), salmon belly sashimi (melts in your mouth), and the tempura prawns. Sushi here is also very good. Extensive menu, polite attentive staff & reasonable pricing - if you love fresh, tasty Japanese food, then kuza certainly won’t disappoint.

The best time to visit Kuza is during lunch to enjoy the super worthy and affordable Lunch set menu that comes with Salad, Rice, and Miso Soup.

Both unagi and pork katsu set were yummy and nice.
The pork katsu was really crispy and not soggy.

I went back for a dinner once and they served tapas style meal.
Although it was good as well, it was slightly more expensive.
Will i come back? Definitely but during lunch.
Perthian
We came here for lunch and have found the food was great but our experience has not been pleasant. The staff and particularly the waitress is quiet rude, unwelcoming and seems arrogant when asked for assistance with menu options.
It’s unfortunate that the quality or service and dinning experience is tainted by lack of hospitality by staff. This has been our experience third time in a row.
Lunarcry
Ordered a takeaway on a weekday night. Service was quick even with a busy restaurant and without pre-ordering prior. Both the double salmon and peppered wagyu roll were absolutely delicious, so were the gyozas. Maybe a tad expensive but I think was worth the price. The restaurant looks like a nice place. Would love to dine in someday.
Thegreeats
Reasonable pricing, clean interior, great menu selection and delicious food!
Service was okay, food took a long time but it was a busy Sunday afternoon.
We had the seared salmon soba and donkatsu.
The seared salmon was cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth.
Both were really goooood!
We also had the double salmon roll which was probably the best thing we ordered.
If you want a no failure Jap place, this is the place!
Will be back 100%
Also, you canpark for free at Woolies or the side streets so quite easy to get to
Matt
Been here a few times and all I can say is Great food, great environment and great service!
Love the salmon ceviche especially and the grilled ox tongue. The sashimi are always guaranteed fresh
CSreview
Have been here several times and enjoyed good food in a funky urban setting. We dined on a Saturday night and enjoyed the bustling atmosphere. The raw fish dishes are always done well - sushi and ceviche are great. Only disappointing things were that they had run out of oyster shots, and the beef cheek special (recommended by the waitress) was really not enjoyable. Overall, would return.
Food Mania
I went there for lunch. Service and staff are good. I like the salmon sushi. Karaage is nice too. Good to go with a group of people so you can try different dishes.
VKee
Good food and good atmosphere. We loved the fresh oysters with mint. The prawn tempura is massive. The sushi mixed is especially delicious. We also ordered tonkutsu ramen and I would say it’s very good considering it’s not a ramen specialty shop.
Tarpinokes
I love Kuza! Came back here for the second time after a few years and it did not disappoint. It exceeded my expectations! Everything was delicious. Started off with beef tataki and 9 pieces assorted shashimi. Then we had the crab croquettes, the pork belly with crackling salad and the beef cheek. Alll in the most delicious seasoning and sauces. The sake passion cocktail is also delicious. I wish my belly was big enough for more.

3.5/5.0

We came in late evening for dinner, always nice when the waitress smiles whenever she talks to you.

The ramen had a nice porky broth, but unfortunately it came out just warm. Pork belly was nice, not quiet melt in your mouth, but close. Unagi sushi was good also, but possibly abit heavy on the cheese.

Overall on presentation of the food and the restraunt was great!

Waitress seemed abit overly keen to clear our dishes, so interupted us a few times, given it was late we were forgiving on the food and over all.

Still, the dinning experience was still very positive, rounding my rating off i decided to push it up to 4.
This is our go to Japanese Restaurant. We sit at bar with an Asahi beer eating a platter of fresh assorted sashimi, Grilled Takoyaki octopus balls & as of late, Beef Cheek Gyoza. Pure indulgence that heightens the senses lingering for hours. The service is friendly and instantaneous whether it is for drinks or food. Love the ambience

All the food are tasty and fresh, but I definitely think it's not worthy for the money. All dishes are tiny. We are taking the lunch menu with pictures, but the dinner price are higher $5-6 for each dish than the lunch one which is totally same. The short hair Taiwanese-looking waitress just kick off us once we finished, but we don't ask for the bills and still stay here to have a talk with my girlfriend as it's her birthday today. You can go there if you don't care the price and service seriously.
Billylamb
A dimly lit modern Japanese restaurant. Plates designed to share. Food came out very quickly. Everything we ate was amazing. The cod with miso dressing, double salmon sushi roll and scallop sushi roll were highlights. May need quite a few dishes to feel full but the quality and flavour was great.

I have been to a few Japanese restaurants in Perth....wow! Food superb, every tastebud explored. Try everything on the menu! You won’t be disappointed!

Love love love this place! What a surprise and so happy to have found it. The staff were really friendly and helpful. They accommodated to all dietary requirements. Food was fresh and delicious!! Have been twice and was just as good both times. Vegetarian options were really good and staff even happy to accommodate for vegan options. I ordered the mock chicken salad, vegetarian noodles, miso eggplant, agedashi tofu and also the sushi. Every single dish was really tasty, large serving sizes and great value for money. Would recommend to everyone!!’

Good selection of fusion style japanese cuisine. Reasonable price. Fresh produce. Nice for 2 or Group seating for 60. Friendly staff. Good size serving. Nice ambience and room.
Zoodle
Food was tasty albeit inconsistent portion sizes. Some mains were large and others really tiny just like entrees. This size issue had nothing to do with cost of ingredients (veg eggplant dish with no exotic ingredients was also small). The biggest disappointment was the service though. Staff in a major rush to remove plates from the table. In one instance I was half way through serving myself and the plate was pulled away. We hadn't even finished our mains yet and the bill was presented. We came with the intention of ordering dessert but decided against it since the staff were in such a hurry to kick us out. Doubt any of the six of us will ever go back.

Came here with a group of friends to try this place out. Certain items on the menu that we ordered were overpriced. The cold soba dish came in a small cup and all of us thought it was a dessert when it was served. That was definitely not worth the money. However the serving sizes for the vegetable ramen and tonkotsu ramen were large. The chicken and walnut roll was tasty and so was the salmon ceviche. Slightly pricey but good for a special occasion
Joe.yee.teoh
Food was nice! Love the Unagi roll, the cream cheese was a really nice touch. It compliments so well with the whole dish. By the way, the short hair middle aged lady waitress has a pure resting face. Sorry to say but she genuinely is not suitable for customer service.
Chi Nguyen
Probably didnt come at the right time (is there any time the right time?), they were under-staffed. The wait was way too long for a simple salad and tempura. We ordered 2 soba noodles but they completely forgot about 1, though we did ask but the girl didnt bother check with the kitchen whatsover. Used to love their grilled stuff, but possibly never comeback. Might just go to the next door cheap fried chicken.
Jamtonks
Went here on a monday night with a group of girlfriends, the food was delicious, the sashimi and double salmon sushi was nice and fresh, it is quite pricey so i dont think I will be rushing back also not being able to do split billing makes things difficult
CafeCruiser
Excellent quality and value (for lunch)! Kuza has a totally different lunch menu - featuring sets for around $15-18. I tried the unagi set and the braised beef with soba when dining with family - both delicious and presented with care. It's obvious they're using fresh/quality ingredients, as there's none of the synthetic flavour that I've found at many Perth Japanese restaurants. This is closest I've found to the food I had in Tokyo. Their teriyaki chicken was so-so mind you.
Neewei94
The environment is good, service are great however is abit overprice, the sushi and sake are all delicious. Ramen is not too bad as well....
Matty Boi
Went out the other week to this place with the wife and was a really good meal. I recommend getting more of the tapas rather than the main meals. Good selection of wine and service is generally good. Will visit again.
Bruna Canto
AMIZING TASTY FOOD!
Modern environment, Fast service, lovely staff and big portions for very cheap (at lunch time).
Absolutely love the place, will most definitely come back.
Jessie Mitch
Poor service. Warm drinks. Flavourless teriyaki chicken. 2 stars are purely for the dynamite roll which was the only edible thing that we ordered.
Eri L
Been here 5 times and always impressed with consistency of the service and quality of food. Took my friend who was visiting from Dubai last night and he was really impressed too. We ordered the dynamite roll, seared duck breast, surf n turf roll and teriyaki tofu. Lovely place to bring a guest or to celebrate a special occasion.
Ilovebeansprouts
Quality food prepared with fresh ingredients. Have tried a number of dishes and highly recommend the Grilled Black Cod, Prawn Tempura and Sashimi. Particularly love the Toro sashimi- tastes so rich and buttery, really delicious! Wagyu Beef Cheeks, Buta Kakuni (simmered pork belly) and Tofu Steak all have great flavours, but didn't blow us away like the other dishes. Beef cheeks were cooked very well though the sauce is a little too sweet to our liking; and we would have like the simmered pork belly to be more tender.
Desserts wise, we enjoyed the Creme Brulee and Panna Cotta the most. Love the alcohol infusion in these desserts and flavours are balanced well. Banana pudding is nice, but nothing special.
Prices are on the steeper end, but most dishes are definitely worth it. Overall food presentation and service is great. Would happily come back on a special occasion.
Live2eat
Love the salmon cerviche, shashimi platter and Grilled Cod. One of the Few restaurant with so much sake selection. Would come back again❤️😊
Marvin Ding
Food was just ok, portions were very little. 1 waiter was not too polite as well. $180 for 5 of us after that we went to another restaurant to get more feed. . If you enjoy overpriced Japanese ok food please visit this restaurant.
Matthew Perroni
The best Japanese I have ever had, we had the duck (yum) pork belly and the octopus balls were unbelievable.
The service was excellent great music great value,
Would highly recommend.
Mimi
The food was alright, but very small portions and the price is quite high... we had to order 4 dishes for two people and it was just so small..
Jessie Khoo
Read some complaints from previous reviews about the service attitude by waitstaff but during my visit, Kuza's service was really good. Waitstaffs were friendly and patience with us even we requested for special customisation of sushi. We ordered two types of sushi (Double salmon & peppered wagyu beef) both of them were fresh n tasty! We requested to change the avocado to cucumber and kuza was happy to change for us! Furthermore the set meal $15 was such a huge portion with miso soup, tamago, oranges & salad. Overall, it's super value of money and we walked out full of satisfaction! Definitely will back to visit again!
Foodlover11
Average food. Poor service for takeaway. No area for waiting for takeaway. Offered a seat at corner by one staff and was informed by manager I was not allowed to sit there. will never come to order takeaway again.
FoodFirst
nice ambiance and overall good food. had the chirashi chilled soba which was yum but the anticipated tempura could be better as the taste was a bit bland.
Price was on the higher end considering the portion is pretty small too.
Joanne Nguyen
Service was spectacular, kind and warm.
Food was delicious, the family went for lunch today, had sashimi, seared salmon, karaage chicken, teriyaki chicken, grilled eel and teriyaki salmon.

Sashimi pleasing start, fresh, sweet and prepared with so much attention to plating
Seared salmon was plated on a long plate, pleasing to the eye and delicious
Karaage chicken and teriyaki chicken, was a little sweet to taste, but other than that nothing to fault
Grilled eel was seasoned perfectly
Now I had the teriyaki salmon, and, it was delicious, the salmon cooked perfect and seasoned well with the teriyaki sauce and rice, would recommend!

Each meal came with miso soup, soup needed a bit more seasoning but other than that, this place is delicious. Not only was it pleasing on terms of plating and appearance, it was very pleasing to the tastebuds, thanks Kuza!

Atmosphere and interior was very subtle, neutral, the kind where the lights a slightly dimmed,
guess your tastebuds more to taste than your eyes. (does that make sense? probably not. Anyways do come and visit this place.)
Annabelle
Huge fan of this place, the food is delicious and tastes so fresh, the green tea is yum. Customer service is okay, would like to visit more but can get pricey very quickly.
Miss NomNom Tran
A bit pricy as the portions are quite small but very tasty delicious food.
The soft shell crab salad was very small but it was quite refreshing
Joanneyl
I personally really love the food here! A delicious twist to Japanese cuisine, and quite innovative with their flavor. Only thing is, can't afford to eat here too often. Nice ambience and good service
Kit Kwa
I struggle to figure this place out, while the food, location and setting are good, the service here is reprehensible, it's likely the worst service on the Vic park strip. I've been here a few times and on each occasion there was an issue with the service. Notably, waitresses here all appear to be suffering from RBF (google if unfamiliar with this term). Fortunately there are now an abundance of great eateries that actually want your business, popping up all over the Vic Park strip, so Kuza if you want to survive in this market pull your collective heads out of your backsides.
Jonathan
Honestly the food is really good for me. But I give 1.5 because the service is terrible. I read other comments before I write mine, and most of the comments are friendly staffs, good service, etc. Unfortunately, not to me. It's happened last week, my girlfriend and I just wore casual wear and entered the restaurant as we saw some of customers wore casually as well, but what we got back is no greeting and no smile service. I was wondering that is the staffs tired or there is other reasons but nevermind. When we want to make our order, I realised, the good service, friendly staffs is only for those who wore smarter or have a good look (because they wore casually as well) but when they came to our table, they have no smile, even serving the food. It's rude and pretty disappointing me and my girlfriend because of huge different kind of service and been judged by appearance. One advice for those who want to go, "if you WEAR SMARTER, you get SERVICE BETTER"

We went here on a wednesday night had the sushies and japanese pancakes. It was really nice the sashimi was quite expensive though so we didnt opt for it.

Foodie In Paradise
Enjoyed the food and drinks at this restaurant. Sashimi was fresh and the grilled black cod was delicious. Food was beautifully presented and good quality. Had the cocktail and mocktail here too, which were very yummy.
Very busy place on the weekend , hard to get seats if no reservation. Nice vibe and service.
Lakmonsta
Always better than the last time. Food envy made us keep ordering more and each dish was a delightful surprise. Some say this restaurant is overpriced and I have to disagree. Delicate and full flavours with gorgeous presentation make it worth every cent. Plates were (quietly) licked clean.
Tammy Koh
Ive been to Kuza many times before but have only just got this app. If I had to describe Kuza in one word it would be 'fresh'. The food is of top quality, with a fusion of both old Asia and contemporary Asia. A good mix may I add! Lovely interior that catches the eye instantly, and nice friendly staff. Needless to say, I am a regular at this restaurant and would recommend to anyone keen for a good feed!
Celina
Very good and fresh seafood, Sashimi is very nicely decorateed. A bit overpriced than other Japanese restaurant. Service is very nice. Love the greentea and sesame icecreams.
Casey
Great food, great service and a reasonable price. Been here two times prior to this visit and have enjoyed it. Big groups need bookings because it isn't a big restaurant. I recommend sharing because you'll be able to try a greater variety of dishes. Ordered this plus two miso soups with one soft drink came to $101 for two people.
FoodNinja
Good service and loved the food! This restaurant stands out on a strip where there are several Japanese restaurants. The ambiance is classy and it feels like an expensive restaurant...but it's not. We tried the ramen (good flavours), soft shell crab (refreshing with the watermelon), grilled octopus (a little chewy as the pieces were too chunky), and tuna sashimi salad (great flavours). The servings are more than adequate - larger servings than other Japanese restaurants.
Perth Foodaholic
I was so excited when my all-time favourite foodie told me she was going to be back in Perth for her birthday. So naturally, it only seemed fitting that we celebrated this joyous occasion with delicious food. We decided to go to Kuza Urban Japanese in Victoria Park because we are both lovers of aburi. Now Kuza is a fancy Japanese restaurant with simple and refined décor and a menu that offers small “higher-end” shared plates (with a price to match). Warning: Don’t go here if you’re expecting big servings of your Japanese favourites – if that is what you are after, then maybe check out places like Silver Sushi or Kai Japanese (please see my previous food blogs). Anyway, my friend and I carefully scanned through the menu and chose 7 dishes (5 savoury and 2 desserts). The scallop ceviche was really fresh and flavoursome – the dressing complimented the sweetness of the scallop nicely and was not too overpowering. Great start to the night. We then had aburi salmon and salmon belly which was lovely! It had the nice torched flavour to the salmon like a good aburi should. For all those who know me, I love aburi – but only if it’s done right (I was really disappointed with the one at Modern Eatery because it lacked the torched flavour). Because it was so good, we ordered another set of each! We then had the double salmon sushi roll which again had the aburi taste we loved. Our final savoury dish we ordered was beef cheeks. My best friend is obsessed with all things beef cheeks and because of her, I have also grown a fondness and love for it. The dish was lovely – beef cheek was super tender and melt in your mouth. We then moved onto desserts and shared the banana pudding which of the two desserts, was my favourite. I love banana desserts and this one was delicious – it was moist and fluffy and served warm with ice cream. Yum yum. We also had the yogurt panna cotta which was served with yuzu and other lovely Japanese flavours – a nice, light dessert and great way to finish the night. Kuza is in the Entertainment Book with a 25% off the total bill discount. Overall the night was great – food was simplistic but well executed and the prices were reasonable.

Disappointing experience. they were always good in producing great tasting food. Recent visit was totally a miss. Quality of the food has declined. we ordered 4 mains and only 1 was oood. Service has declined aswell.

Came here on a Saturday night, after hearing good things about this place. It was quite busy and only had the bar seats available, so I would recommend booking for dinner reservations!
Service was friendly and accommodating, and food was nice but not as top-notch as I had expected (a bit on the pricier side). Still had a nice enjoyable dinner, and I'd still come again.
Aska Y
The ramen noodle was lumpy and undercooked.
Ordered the pork belly which it came with 4 small meat ball and a spring roll. The spring roll was hard to bite and it tasted the same as the meat ball. I would rather spend the $$ on Chinese type toast pork.
Hungry Hippo
Went here on a Wednesday night for dinner. Service was good as always. However food was not very good at all. Has there been a change in kitchen staff or management? The flavours were not balanced right and every dish was lacking. Wasn't a good night maybe?
William Ooi
My second time in this restaurant and I must say I was much more impressed. As the name goes the Japanese food with a twist I recommend the seafood pancake omniyaki, the katsu oysters.
Ophie Schilizzi
Food was nice but not amazing. The staff was so unenthused and it took a while to get some water for the table. Not exceptional all in all and I'd probably not go there again in any rush.
Gunners714
Came here for dinner. Ordered miso soup, organic pork belly, surf and turf, chicken karange and mixed sushi with some wine and sake. The miso soup was great. The surf and turf delicious but the sushi, chicken and pork belly was average. The sake menu is thorough and it was a good experience to try what was on offer. Ok but not in a hurry to recommend or return anytime soon.
Marie
Went to Kuza last night with some friends and all of us agreed that the food was creative and sublime! The dish the totally blew our senses was the Black Cod Miso. Highly recommended. Staff were friendly and good atmosphere but the music was a bit too loud.
Williespants
A more edgy twist on Japanese cuisine. The ambience seems more like a bar with the dim lighting. The food is reasonable, slightly in the pricier side. I liked the sushi rolls, tried the Dragon roll and the Surf & Turf - decent serve and flavour were well thought out. The Crab Korokke was so so only, expected better. But the Agedashi Tofu was good. The Okonomiyaki was ok, a bit salty but it's been modernised so doesn't have the same authentic feel as what you'd get in Japan. Mostly hit with some miss here, I'd still come back.

This fancy Japanese restaurant offers a high variety of food choices which attracted me to be back for a few times already. Services were alright and foods were served fast. Just a small tip to diners: lunch and dinner menu are different but they both come with reasonable prices. Personally, I am more in love with the lunch menu.

The food at Kuza is outstanding! Totally authentic and so fresh! The photos speak for themselves with the amazing presentation of the food and everything is so incredibly delicious! I would recommend Kuza to everyone!

My significant other and I came here on a Wednesday night and we were really full after 5 sushi rolls shared between the two of us (apprx $80). I recommend this place if you're after modern japanese and a romantic dinner. Staff was pleasant and food arrived in a timely manner. Will return to try the bigger mains.

Have been wanting to try Kuza for a while now and it certainly didn't disappoint. Surf and turf sushi and wagu beef tataki - winners! However the other dishes were OK, pretty good experience

Have been here on a number of occasions now. I have to say I absolutely live their salmon aburi. Delicious. Their ramen is so so. Found it a bit salty. But their dinner options are so tasty. We ordered their vegetable tempura, agedashi tofu, steamed egg custard (cannot remember the Japanese name), okonomiyaki, oyster katsu, and soft shell crab sushi roll. Wasn't too big on their okonomiyaki more the texture of it, and the agedashi tofu was only ok but everything else was delicious. Definitely coming back for dinner.

I've always been a fan of Kuza and last night didn't disappoint. I've read a few of the negative reviews and I just don't understand?

Everything we ordered last night was amazing. Full of flavour, texture and freshness!

The cocktails are to die for as well. Highly recommend the raspberry potion or Baked Apple Pie.

This isn't your local Japanese take away. It's semi-casual but save it for a special night out. Maybe then people would stop complaining about the price. For me it's very reasonable.

Don't listen to the keyboard warriors. Go check it out for yourself!

Service was good as was our food we have been twice now & it was great both times. The beef cheek goyoza was a stand out for me, so glad we found this restaurant, it had a nice vibe.😀

Me and my partner came here for dinner. Ordered the Karaage, salmon sashimi, and some unique sushi's, everything was tasty. Priced on the tall side but it is a fancy place, even though it can get loud

We tried the oyster shooters which were sensationally fresh and zingy. The selection of raw fish was great for us and we thoroughly enjoyed it, again it was fresh. The sushi rolls were fresh, tasty, well balanced in terms of rice to filling ratio and there was nothing more that we could ask for. The ambience and service was good.

Excellent food, but the service is dreadful. After 4 years of patronage, this has always been the case, unfortunately. The gyoza and range of noodles is great, just don't expect to be treated nicely by the unfriendly and dismissive staff.

Kuza have it nailed. Great food well presented with modern decor and good service. You want Japanese or to impress without breaking the bank try here - you won't regret. Have been a dozen times and never disappoints. Nice tables, chairs, glassware and presentation. Selection of sakes if you are game to try. Only criticism is sometimes service rushed - but then others usually waiting for a table. Must book. Kitchen open till about 9 pm. Japanese with modern twist. Recommend salmon ceviche, and soft shell crab on watermelon.
Very nice food and staff. The Apple Pie cocktail was the best! Gave 3.5 as I've had better elsewhere but that was much more expensive. This place is great for what it charges. Will definitely go back again.

Extremely delicious, rich in flavour food! Beef teriyaki is amazing! Staff are a bit curt, but service is good enough. Great lunch menu! Very pricey but very yummy food!

Presentation and service wise, I would give this place 5/5 stars. We ordered the soft shell crab served with watermelon, karaage chicken, seared duck (cannot remember the name) and crispy pork belly. The crab came out very burnt which was a shame as it was the dish we were most looking forward to. Karaage chicken was also a little burnt, however still tasty and it was nice to have a Japanese staple amongst the interesting dishes. I particularly liked the cabbage slaw it was served with as it added a nice amount of freshness and crunch to the dish. I wasn't a particular fan of the pork belly. Usually this would be my go-to dish however it came out slightly soggy and missing crackle. However, it did come served with croquettes and a spring roll which I appreciated given the dish was one of the pricier menu items. The seared duck, a cold dish, was my favourite and was served with caramelised onion and fresh sliced pineapple. Price wise, drinks were very reasonable- a glass of wine will set you back $8-$9 and a stubby of Japanese beer $9. However, don't expect a cheap midweek feed as most things on the menu are upwards of $18. All in all, the food was good however could have been a little more flavoursome.

Opening hours says it opens till 3pm in the afternoon. I arrived at 2.25pm, and was told that they were closed.
What? Your sign says 3pm, your menu and your fold-out sign were still displayed outside.
If I had arrived at 250pm or even 245pm, I would have understand the reluctancy of my arrival.
Don't say you'll open till 3pm when you don't. Just damn misleading and a waste of my travel time. Thankful I found something delicious nearby and finished my (late)lunch before 250pm.

The sad thing is that this wasn't my first time coming in. I had tested your lunch menu and quite like it, hence, my return to try other dishes.

I'd still come back for lunch one day. Maybe. But definitely not for a while.

Everything very delicious.
Think a little more western/modern Japanese Food - but absolutely delicious.i usually come for lunch once a month or so and they are quick.
Dinner service is also not a big delay, even when a full service

The food was all really good. We got an assortment of sushi and then got some chicken kaarage and tempura. I don't suggest to come here if you are looking for traditional Japanese food, plus its a little too pricey.

There weren't a whole lot of places open on New Years Day, so when we came across Kuza in Vic Park, we thought we'd give it a go. It has a very modern and more upmarket interior, with a monochrome colour scheme and a feature wall filled with various Japanese wines and sake bottles. The menu is quite expansive, with plenty of choice for sashimi, sushi rolls, entrees, and even lunch sets. Our drink:

Warning: the menu on their zomato account is different to their actual menu. We were expecting to get semi traditional Japanese food based on their online menu but was were sadly disappointed. The food was more expensive than your average Japanese dining experience although some portions (like the tempura) reflected this. We also had the shou udon noodle (slightly too salty), small sashimi (really fresh!), crab croquette (couldn't taste any crab, tasted like potato mash only), grilled pork belly (nice) and rice. Overall it was a nice dining experience with friendly slow but unfortunately the service was a bit slow cos they were full house.

Have been a few times and food generally good and service generally good depending on when you go. This time however, took a very long time to order and messed up order, brought out incorrect substandard food ( messy avocado rolls for kids ) we only stayed after one hour plus of waiting as the kids were starving by now so we had no choice.
On paying the manager/owner asked how the meal was and we had not planned to make a fuss but despite knowing how terrible the customer service was and he food had come to us 20 minutes apart for each dish, was defensive and made excuses that they did not have enough staff instead of a plain sorry about that!
The only reason why we came here was because a brilliant sushi place across the road was closed due to electricity problems! Once this new sushi place becomes popular I am sure people will vote with their feet and Kuza's may have to pull the socks up.
Nevertheless the food is generally good if you are willing to put up with haphazard service and it certainly is not cheap!

Not too bad Japanese food with average price. Polite and friendly staff. Good place to catch up with friend not too noisy. Pretty drawing on the wall. Nice interior design.

2.9 rating
Service was good, staff were polite and we didn't have to wait long for food at all.

we ordered seared beef tataki (good and soft , not chewy at all with good flavours), sashimi (tuna was really not fresh and had a murky colour and texture , but the rest were ok), chawan mushi (was not too salty - tastes ok), salmon ceviche was nice (we liked this), soft shell crab with watermelon (was ok too), karaage (burnt on most pieces but had good flavour), beef tongue (was ok, a bit too tough -slightly over cooked) and the tempura prawn roll was yummy. Total bill came to about $119 after entertainment discount of $35.

Overall: Service was good and food was ok but not memorable. I also found it on a pricier side. Not returning too soon

Ordered the tempura prawns - a very generous serving with fried cucumbers, sweet potato and vegetable pancake! Also got the crab croquettes - couldn't taste the crab.. A small serving for the price
