Review Catalano's Cafe - Victoria Park

It was a good experience. I love the way they welcome the customers, smile and warm welcome. Food was delicious and taste well. I like how generous they are, food portions are big and assure you that you won't feel hungry šŸ˜…. I believe that I will try to visit again and try new items from the menu.

Got the big breakfast, great price for what you get, also get a coffee and a juice with it. Staff where very friendly and food and drinks came out fast. Next time my car is in for service ill come back for another meal!

The best Italian restaurant in town. Highly recommended and I will definitely come back again šŸ˜‹šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘

This place surprise me with their food and services. Staffs not only friendly but professional also. The pizza base is so thin, I like it. Pasta and spaghetti is very cheesy. And last, beautiful wall paper.
Peter White
Excellent wait staff. Super impressed the last two times I went there. Staff are attentive, careful, respectful, and sufficient. Too many restaurants nowadays struggle to find decent wait staff, and you end up with too few and uninterested service. But not at Catalano's. They are brilliant, and I am grateful. Well done to management and staff.

Great food and service, everyone was great. We were trying to order and the Chef on the wood fire pizzas noticed us and helper the waiter with the plates so she could take our order. He also paid attention to other customers too. Overall a really nice casual environment, great food and people!

Good food, good venue and friendly staff. One suggestion, they may serve fresh brewing tea option instead of tea bags. Others all good, We had a good time, so I leave 5 stars. Iā€™ll come back again.

Wonderful service, food and atmosphere! We love going here for a meal. Big servings, tasty food, quality seafood and just overall a great experience. Always a go to place that doesnā€™t disappoint!

Absolutely awesome service from the minute you walk in !! Topped off with the absolutely amazing value for money food. Will always recommend and return

Been going here every week for the last few years, food used to be awesome, but has really gone down hill over the last few months, last night was just very poor food and very slow service

Table of 8 on a Friday night at 6.30pm. Food was great. Had to wait for my meal and it arrived when everyone else was finished at our table. Ordered overpriced sauce at $5 for small bowl of which I didn't even get with my late meal when I finally got it. Had to ask for the missing sauce as well. Then further 5 min to wait for that. Staff were not very sorry for my experience. Excuse was they had new staff in training.

Service was great & food was delicious. Was only a short wait for food & the serving sizes were large. Over all a great place.

Thanks catalanos for a wonderful meal on Tuesday night the pastas were so tasty and the salad - fresh and flavoursome... and your prices were really good for the size of the meals

Group of 3 came in for Sunday lunch. 2 had the baby Rump 1 had the lamb chops. Portions are large servings. Meals were nice and service good. Would suggest extra till for payment as had to wait over 15mins at the counter to pay.. Will be back..

Used to be my favorite place, didn't enjoy the last couple of times . Broccotetti was swimming in oil , brevet used to be like that

Cold staff, cold food, cold treatment to a cold day. It wasnā€™t a pleasant experience and we ended up finishing the food after waiting at least 45 minutes.

I had the absolute best eva pizza last night and I can't stop thinking about it...Wow...it's a 9/10 and I'm a hard marker...That base is perfect the ingredients are high quality & its a nice size too. I've always been a Dominos Pizza fan but now I've experienced the difference of a Catalanos Cafe Pizza made by Pizza Chef Joseph, I'm not going anywhere else even if I move our of area.

Extremely poor service. No acknowledgement when we walked in, waited ages to be taken to our table even though we had booked. Slow to take our order and then had to wait a long time for it to arrive all this and the place was almost empty. Loads of other restaurants in vic park so give them your patronage, they might appreciate it. These guys donā€™t! <br/>
Colin MacDonald
Poor service and a language barrier led to my meal being thrown away and having to be remade. They forgot my sons meal entirely and then brought someone elseā€™s food to our table. The food was ok once they got the order sorted out.
SweetPoison
Yum- we took our staff here for our end of year Christmas party on Sunday night. Absolutely loved it. Massive portions, easily cater for fussiness, food came out prompt, service was lovely... no complaints. Itā€™s in the entertainment book and is BYO also. Worth a visit!

Great pizza from Spanish chef Jose

Dinner before a concert on Friday night, we had salmon pasta and chicken pasta... both big sizes and very tasty! The thing I love about this place is they are happy for you take away your left overs, which means they make it fresh daily šŸ˜Š. Lovely coffee to finish.... if we hadnā€™t been so full we would have tried their beautiful desserts. Will return for sure
Wakeusup
Worst calamari Iā€™ve ever eaten, or not eaten. Overcooked, oily, gross. I donā€™t understand how they can possibly have the rating they fo on here.. Will never go back.

The best thing was the side salad :( the pasta we had were quite bland, but service was good. Food was out quick, but the meals tasted like packed meals

5 star Italian Restaurant 5 star service. Excellent childrens menu and portion size are the best money for value I have ever seen . My son has cerebral palsy and is wheelchair accessible...<br/>My sons recommendation is the carbonara and mine is the veal boscaiota... simple delicious
Antonio Briceno
3 at it's best. food was average. definitely not worth of a 4. Also our garlic bread came out with a dirty burnt alfoil ball which was used to stop the oven press

Went in December, really enjoyed all our meals I had the veal parmigiana and it was one of the better I've had in Perth and certainly the most tender I've had in ~5 years, my partner had the lasagne which he enjoyed and is like his Nonno used to make (it has egg in), others had a pasta which was very tasty - I can't remember the name but overall we were really impressed with our meals and the service was quick. Restaurant was full but they got our meals out very quick considering.

Went there for dinner recently and ordered Marinara. <br/><br/>The seafood was tough, chewy, a bit smelly and certainly not fresh. The prawns and scallops were really small and I don't think the seafood was local either. One of the last prawns I put into my mouth was so putrid, I immediately spat it out. Absolutley revolting. <br/><br/>I complained to the waitress at my table, who asked if I had enjoyed the meal and I showed her the disgusting, smelly, spat out prawn on the edge of my plate. <br/><br/>She immediately picked up my plate and said she was going to take my complaint to the chef right away and show him the disgusting, smelly, spat out prawn on my plate.<br/><br/>That waitress never returned to my table again and I never got any acknowledgement or apology whatsoever from anyone there. I was very disappointed and angry that I had to pay for that disgusting meal.<br/><br/>I felt sick during the night and it continued the next day. The second day I still wasn't back to normal but by the third day I was okay again. I will never, ever eat at Catalano's Cafe again. Bad food and no apology whatsoever. This experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth. No thanks. Never again.
I.live.to.eat
ordered the prawn and scallop pasta. unfortunately the scallops were totally inedible! they were either severely over cooked or stale, as they were the weirdest colour ever, and really really hard! asked for a replacment, but the waitress came back and said the chef said they are all like that so thereā€™s nothing they could do about it, so i asked to swap for more prawns instead. pasta was pretty bland, so had to use quite a bit of extra salt (i never use salt unless something is really tasteless). <br/><br/>we definitely wonā€™t be going back!

Food was fantastic , enjoyed the huge serving with leftovers to enjpy later<br/>Staff were happy and helpfu with choosing from menu<br/>Wheelchair access great with plenty of room to move.
Foodie In Paradise
Been here few times, food was quite nice and big portion. Chicken parmy came with chips and veggie which taste average. Like their pasta dish here .
Ilovebeansprouts
Rich, creamy pastas with bold flavours. Chilli mussels were well cleaned and cooked, but would have preferred the sauce to be a little thicker. We enjoyed dipping the garlic bread in the chilli mussels sauce, though a few of the mussels had a really strong smell.Ā  Have had breakfast here too; enjoyed the Eggs Milano the best. Service is friendly and efficient. Happy to come back to try other dishes.
Reuben Black
the meals were of very big portions, definitely enough to share between two. we got the caesar salad, carciofi and lasange. they taste average, but were quite rich. the interior decor didnt do the place much justice either.
Cookiecrumble
Had a beautiful meal at Catalanos cafe the other night. Garlic prawns were juicy and tender alongside some chips and cooked veggies. My hubby ordered the salmon pasta, even though it was bit on the salty side the sauce was overall creamy and delicious. <br/><br/>Our starter was the roasted capsicum and boccini. So sweet and juicy how they cooked the capsicum and melted that cheese on garlic toast. Loved the rustic Italian style ambience and family friendly service!

Came here with a group of girls ! We all loved our pastas , the food came out quite quickly which was great . <br/>It is a very big open cafe so you don't get that cramped feeling, there is a huge range of cake and desserts ! I ordered the pasta with scallops and prawns the seafood was very fresh and the sauce was creamy and had a nice hit of garlic to it šŸ˜€ the customer service was not the greatest , we weren't made aware of the fish and risotto of the day until we asked. The menu is quite pricey however you do get big serves. $6 for garlic bread is pretty $$$ in my opinion . For a pasta with a good variety of ingredients your looking at the $28 range
Papillon
Its been few years since I was last here and I was surprised at how open the place has been renovated to. It used to be really crammed and noisy while this time, although busy I didn't feel like we were crammed like a tin of sardines. The antipasto platter is generous, actually overall the serving size is so generous. I had the seafood pasta with prawns and scallops and it was well seasoned. The staff was friendly and quick to give us suggestions and when asked about the ingredient she quickly went and clarified with the kitchen. Would highly recommend this place
Truth Be Told Australia
Great family restaurant, large serves and it's hard not to find your favourites on this large menu. It can get noisy so get in early . We enjoyed had the garlic prawns , veal snitzel and apple pie. Prawns were nice a garlicky, but a little on the soft side and didn't have the fresh snap you get when biting into them. Snitzel was cooked well end enjoyed . We also enjoyed fettuccini carbonara which was really nice, cooked perfectly and just enough creamy sauce . He had the apple pie and it was huge , maybe too much apple pie and not enough ice cream . Overall pretty consistent .
Foodie
Visited this place, ordered steak, veal schnitzel, chilli calamari and gnocchi. The food was alright, the issue is that there is a lack of seasoning on the food. If they season the food more it would be a lot better.
Sam
We've always had pretty good experiences and decent food of good portions here. We always come back. Love the chefs salad with chicken and spaghetti marinara
Perth Eater
Delicious, flavourful Italian food! So good! Very busy restaurant. Would give 5 stars if the restaurant wasn't so noisy. Very loud inside when busy. Love this food!

One of the worst customer service I have ever experienced - i don't even bother with writing reviews but i am overly shocked at how bad this experience was - I really feel they need to fix this if they want to succeed in their business. I've made contact with them, let the management know and only just of last week to return and sadly, it's still the same<br/><br/>2 weeks ago, when I dined in with a group of 4 people, we were served by a young lady with blonde hair which barely said anything. Came to the table and didn't greet, didn't smile, just took our order, didn't repeat the order, didn't ask for drinks? There were so many things you could up-sell but she decided to pick up the menu and quickly head to the kitchen. You really need to fix this - when we were paying at the counter at the end of our meals, we only discovered you guys had a lamb shank special, one of my fave things to get but didn't even get notified about this. other places seem to ask how you would like your chilli mussels to be "hot, mild, extra hot?", NOPE, didn't even bother asking for that - why didn't we say anything about how hot we want it? because you would expect to be asked, as we are learning the experience, we thought, maybe it's one standard 'heat' - but when we tasted your chilli mussels, it barely hit the heat, you would probably just call it 'mussels in tomato sauce'<br/><br/>we ordered our meal and the first thing that came out within about 3 minutes was garlic bread, this was to go with our chilli mussels. so we gave a few more moments because we thought the chilli mussels would come right out after. but no, it was 18 minutes later that the chilli mussels came, so by the time we had our bread, it was hard and cold as shit, why didn't you guys simply bring it out together? or toast the bread closer to the time the mussels are about to be ready?<br/><br/>the girl who brought it out (young lady with long white hair with purples) was fantastic, came out smiling<br/><br/>the young tall girl with the glasses was probably the worst person, even though she did not interact with us at all. When we came into the doors, the 4 of us were standing there, she walked pass, noticed we were there, but kept on walking, the shorter Italian girl with the glasses and tattoos was serving other customers but she quickly nodded as an international signal for "ill be with you after this" while holding 2 plates, the tall girl walking around just walking around being lazy as fck and avoiding chores<br/><br/>the night continues on and the tall girl seems to be walking around doing nothing while other staff are running in and out with serving dishes, and also cleaning up tables<br/><br/>at this night, the restaurant was probably 10% filled during peak time, and you have about 6-7 staff running the floor, no one was attentive. we would have to wave people down if we needed something.<br/>empty water bottle but didn't bother to fill, empty plates on the table and staff walked pass and didn't offer to clear, and lastly didn't bother asking in between whether we wanted drinks, and lastly didn't bother asking for desserts. seriously one of the worst, if not, the worst customer service we have ever experienced. you could have made an easy extra $80-$100 (4 x drinks + 4 x desserts/coffees) from each table of 4 with small up-sells but staff are running your business to the ground.<br/><br/>at the counter going to pay, a gentle was standing there for a good 5 minutes without anyone acknowledging him, the young tall lady with glasses walked pass and just kept on walking - not even a 'can I help you?' or notify someone else that "hey this guy is ready to sort out his bill" - the older lady then works out our bill but without even saying "hey how was your meal? was everything ok?" .. more like "oh that's $135".. .. ..<br/><br/>as we are leaving, staff don't even bother saying bye - this is where you show your friendliness and hope to see the customers again, but really they don't give a fck whether you come back or not, they are there to countdown the time and get money.<br/><br/>things to fix:<br/>greet customer<br/>smile<br/>up-sell to special for the day/week<br/>drinks<br/>ask for desserts<br/>and again, bloody smile, it doesn't hurt<br/>pleases & thank yous<br/>just change management and get a proper team leader to show how customer service is a very important factor within a company<br/><br/>seriously.. i am writing you so that you are aware of the current situation and staff will run your business to the ground. maybe it was that one off quiet night but as from reviews i've been reading, it seems that you guys are often very quiet, it's not the same as what i use to remember eating at catalano's, so please, change it up if you want to survive in this business game, because as you probably don't want to hear it, it's gone majorly crap

Great Italian Restaurant serving huge meals at great prices. The service here is really nice and friendly. The coffee is ok and the decor and seating is too. Overall it's one of the better Italian restaurants in Victoria park.
Lady Marmalade
Been there twice last month. Food portions generous. Standard parmigiana with chips and salad or vegetables etc. Some service staff great, others grumpy and miserable. Uncomfortable chairs, tables have seen better days, one had a huge split in it, too scared to lean on it! Average Italian food, a lot of it pre prepared and warmed through. Good eats for a family or group booking, don't plan a romantic night here though.

Had an incredible breakfast. I had the pancakes with sausages on the side and it was near perfect, but stay away from the iced coffee, it was chalky and not blended properly - not very nice at all.
Food InJustice
Simple pasta dishes done right esp. the prawn and seafood pastas. Great to satisfy my pasta fix. It's too bad they don't do Pizza's. <br/>Yes - I will come back

Not even a hint of a smile from our order taker. No please or thank you either. Food is taking a loooong time to come out, been waiting maybe twenty-five minutes and still not had breakfast yet. Not good.
Gpayne50
I had breakfast- bacon & eggs. Came with two pieces of over toasted thick, I mean Really thick, pieces of toast. Massive bowl of canned mushrooms which were not very nice, half a piece of cold roasted tomato and 2 pieces of extremely salty bacon. $15 and very poor. Breakfast at Brandoes down the road is 100 percent better however sadly only open on the weekends. I definitely do not recommend this restaurant and even the coffee was burned and served unacceptably hot.

Meals were quick to come out and portions were very decent. This place is good to go if you're craving a big serve of standard Perthies kind of pasta and don't mind a casual and noisy atmosphere. We were only there to eat and get out quick and overall it satisfied my carb craving :)
Cherie Matison
Terrible service. Orders weren't taken for a long time. Food came quickly but after we had finished plates were left on our table for a long time. We wanted dessert but weren't offered menus and the long wait before anyone came over was terrible. There was hardly any tables and lots of staff on, at the time.

Atmosphere: a bit stark when there aren't many customers. I've also had dinner there on a busy night. It had a better vibe but was *very* noisy <br/>Decor: dated, scuffed but otherwise clean. Looks better at night. <br/>Food: okay. Toast seemed to be from a packet<br/>Service: average. Food arrived reasonably fast but there were only a few other customers at the time

We took overseas visitors here for a meal on Saturday night. As Italian goes it's about average. Not excellent but not inedible either. I had the Italian sausage with penne, he had the lasagna, she had the squid salad and said it was great and he had fettuccini with prawns. No complaints about the food or serving sizes. The service was reasonable but not outstanding although the food was on the table really quickly. We didn't leave late but chairs were stacked on tables all around us as we finished our meal. Nice touch.

The food is consistently good. We usually order a salad and pasta then split them. Chicken mango salad and spinach salad are favs. They're a generous serving and the ingredients compliment each other well. Pasta favs are the alla vodka and the spicy prawn one. It's incredibly good value for money considering the quality of food and generous serving size. Service is pleasant and efficient. It's always a delicious safe choice in Vic Park.

We've been to Catalanos a few times and enjoyed our dinner. Today we tried breakfast. The menu was short, with very few vegetarian options (I'm not a vego but I dont like too much meat at breakfast time. Vego breakfasts are my fav). I had the pancakes, which were fluffy and delicious (although no fresh blueberries). My partner had the eggs Benny with hash brown, and my mum had the Milano. We all enjoyed our meals and the coffee was ok. Food came out fast and service was good. The breakfast prices were very reasonable (hence I didn't get too upset by the jarred blueberries). We would come back again for sure, but I'd recommend that they add a yummy veggie breakfast to their menu.
Rebecca Sweeny
Nothing to write home about. Had dinner here with a couple of friends last Saturday night. My partner and I shared the Calamari and the carbonara. Unfortunately both were disappointing. The calamari was so rubbery and looked like it was out of the freezer section in the supermarket and the carbonara was not authentic and lacked flavor. Service was promt and friendly which was one positive.Ā  Probably wouldn't eat here again, plenty of other better Italian restaurants around perth to chose from.

Came here for a dinner today, it was a nice warm atmosphere. Had chilli mussel for appetiser and was so impressed. Very tasty and fresh.<br/>Ordered special of the day : Pork belly and spaghetti carbonara. Was confused when they gave us pork chop instead. Then the Waiter apologised that they ran out of pork belly but nobody told us. A bit disappointed, we ordered sirloin steak.<br/>Steak was dry and a bit tough. Carbonara pasta was too salty and i struggled to finish it.<br/>Overall, i think I will come back just for the chilli mussel.

This place just never gets old! Its recently been renovated and WOW so much nicer and bigger! Delicious food!! Big servings! Reasonably priced! Perfect for family outings but not intimate dining
Kev
Table of 6 and a baby on Friday night. Been here about 12 times over the years and food taste exactly the same each time, so it is consistent. Seafood platter is definitely smaller every year. I like the pastas, it's not the best ones, but far from the worse I've eaten. I'm not am expert on pastas though. I can only compare it to the pasta I had in Italy and it's not as good. There is worth 3.5 out of five.
Bob Deeplaul
Piss poor effort yesterday... Very average !! <br/>$10 for a glass of wine ???? U fukn serious ??? <br/>Over priced ... It's just pasta ffs .... Surely it can't be that hard. Service ok though ...

Had dinner with friends. The service was very hit and miss. The mains were stodgy and there is just no love left in the place. Thanks to the entertainment book voucher which lessened the blow.

We have just had lunch at Catalano's very disappointing my partner had the marinara fettuccine and I had the al fungi gnocchi. The marinara did have some decent seafood in it but the sauce was bland and oily. The gnocchi was hand made but that is where the quality ended it was flavourless and oily, there was only one type of mushroom half cooked and was actually more half cooked capsicum in the dish than anything else.We tried to get the waitresses attention but was ignored until we were just about to leave.Fair play to the manager she was apologetic and offered us a discount unfortunately we will probably not be coming back...
Danny G
Never disappoints. The service could be better organised (seems chaotic) but the food is wholesome and oversized. Don't be fool as it is mostly potato or pasta...what you expect from an Italian restaurant- dunno - I expect more. Good family venue for an easy lunch or dinner; can get expense but you'll be well fed.
Chris Quek
Found this interesting place via Zomato and it really lives up to being a traditional Italian cuisine. The portions and huge and the pasta sauces were so addictive. Fellow dinner mates had a great time eating the fresh oysters. Really enjoyed ourselves.
OnePointFive
I've been to Catalano's Cafe so many times, even before they expanded their restaurant. We like their pastas, they're usually cooked to perfection and sauced really well. Wanted "light" pastas, we ordered Fettuccini Il Funghi and Penne Ala Vodka, both are tomato based sauce (one with cream). We always fancy their Calamari Salad. However yesterday's Calamari Salad felt smaller than usual, hmmmm... We also had Garlic Bread for entree, soft & fragrant. After meal we decided to share cakes. They bought their cakes from somewhere else and have quite an array. We picked Tiramisu & Honeycomb cakes. Others but me liked the Tiramisu. For me the mascarpone was too light so it tasted like whipped cream instead. Honeycomb cake tasted similar like normal chocolate mud cake. Service has never been their strong point, very average. But last night was a bit of a shock. I asked for a little bit of hot water (2cm high is more than enough) to warm up my baby's milk. The waiter said they usually charge $1 for a cup of hot water. What?!?!?! I found it ridiculous and unreasonable. In the end she gave it to me for free, but with sour face. I probably wont go back if not using Entertainment Book voucher.
Emma
Nice Italian cuisine menu, a lot to choose from! Average spend. Ordered the pizzaiola (mushroom, cheese & bacon pasta) and my partner ordered the arrabiata (Italian sausage pasta) + fresh bread. You get to choose which pasta they use, which is a good idea! I chose spaghetti which came out al dente, just as I like it :) The food came out quick, large and full of flavour! A lot of oil but the flavour was so good it didn't phase me haha. There was so much I took some home not to waste it! However the container was $1 extra. Service was good. Ambiance was ok but not much to write home about. Overall will come back if looking for a good feed :)

T8wy April 2016:<br/><br/>1. Carbonara Pasta, 3.0/5.0. Ok. Carbonara at Ciao Italia has more flavour and creamier.<br/><br/>2. Alla Vodka Pasta, 3.0/5.0. OK. Nothing special.<br/><br/>3. Chocolate Muffin with Raspberry, 3.0/5.0. OK. not sure if the raspberry filling is about to go bad, it was quite sour? <br/><br/>Servings are about the same size as at Ciao Italia.
T-M@c
Been here years ago before they refurbished the interior. The food is very similar to the likes of Sienna's and Ciao Italia. It can be very busy during the evenings. The food is not awesome but it's ok.
Michelle Byrne
Quick service for a reasonably priced breakfast. <br/>Full breakfast and a gf egg and bacon toasted sandwich. No frills but tastey. Nice decor and opens out onto the street with outside settings
Matchalover
Very friendly staff. The food portions are large for the price you pay! All dishes were good. But wished they put chips in another bowl so they wouldn't get soggy in sauce. Gnocchi was quite dense and doughy (wouldn't be able to finish the plate myself unless I was sharing with others). Overall had a good experience. <br/><br/>2017 Edit: Came here recently and ordered something different. I got the chicken breast with tomato based sauce with steamed veggies and chips. Everything was delicious especially the chicken breast which was so tender and cooked to perfection!
Sheryl Frame
Only restaurant. I have ever been to that has the gall to charge 50 cents for a marshmallow they served with a hot chocolate!! Busy restaurant ,service was good, food wholesome but average ! Certainly not the kind of place that should be charging for something everyone else serves free !<br/><br/>15th February 2017<br/><br/>Came back after a 10 month gap to find that attitudes haven't changed in petty pricing despite the restaurant being virtually empty<br/>The menu offers meals with chips and a choice of salad or vegetables - my husband requested no chips but rather salad and vegetables. This request was first declined but later the waitress said she could do it but would charge an extra $5, which we accepted.<br/><br/>Food was good though !l
AnnMLou
Always a satisfying meal. Quick service. Pasta is just as you expect it to be. Other meals look large and tasty. Always so full I haven't tried desert but coffee smells good.

Garlic bread was average. <br/>Marinara with home made gnocchi - Fresh and yummy with right texture<br/>Three generations Lasagne - Was excellent & delivered with warm hospitality. Recommended.
For The Love Of Food
Breakfast prices are pretty good here, I had the pancakes with blueberries, cream and syrup for $10. Pretty comparable to McDonald's hotcakes, but nice it's not the usual high prices seen around Perth. Service was good, the only downside was the coffee which was the worst I have had in a long time. I would go back to try their dinner menu.
Eatableperth
Catalano's is tasty and the servings are massive so make sure you go with an appetite!<br/><br/>The decor is pleasant and relatively recent the restaurant has expanded. We didn't have a booking but got a table no worries. <br/><br/>JR ordered the lamb cutlets which he said was juicy and tender but was lacking a gravy or sauce. <br/><br/>BT had the chicken parmigiana. The serving was huge and could have fed her 3 times over. She said the sauce was a little bland though. <br/><br/>I had my gnocchi Piazziola. I love this dish. It was also very generous and I brought 2/3 home.
IEat
Had dinner here last night with my girlfriend and as usual, it was great. I come here often and it's always a pleasant experience. The spaghetti marina is my favorite pasta dish here. The seafood is very fresh and there's plenty of it! The garlic bread is great too. You won't be disappointed
Anonymonster
I often frequent this place with mum or friends who are willing to pay the extra dollar for a good meal and a nice environment.<br/><br/>I admit some of the staff are a bit lacking in their hospitality service skills...<br/><br/>PRIMARY EXAMPLE: Not walking around barriers to put food/wine onto the table...preferring to pass it to the guest at the table instead - PURE LAZY. I was shocked the waitress did that.<br/><br/>I've also asked for tabasco sauce and/or water a few times on several occasions and the staff seem too busy and stressed (it always shows on their face and through their service) and forget my request. I often am left waiting and have to try and grab the attention of another waitress to finally get what I want.<br/><br/>Cost and clumsiness aside, the food is top notch though and since their renovation a while back the place looks absolutely stunning. Great for a casual nice night out, celebration or even a date, definitely. I still give it a 4. Plenty of room for improvement though.

If you believe all the negative reports, then stay home and that will leave room for everyone who enjoys their food. Our table of 6 loved it. The portions are large the food was spot on and we will be back! Quick and efficient kitchen and table service. Fills up with families so book a table.
Perth Critic
Read a lot of mixed reviews about this place, nevertheless we thought we give it a try. We've been here over 8 years ago and the fact that it's still in business meant that it's doing well. Lamb cutlets are cooked to perfection, so tender and melt in your mouth. Chilli mussels are good too and so is the steak. The waitress we had is a bit strange, doesn't smile at all and only abruptly speaks when we asked her a few questions about the menu...doesn't really offer any service....so a bit off putting.
Happymuncher
Ordered the salsaccia to start off - olives, cheese and Italian sausage ($17)- followed by two pasta dishes. Definitely great for sharing:)<br/> <br/>The portions were huge and I didn't end up finishing my meal which was very surprising. My white sauce pasta was diluted but generous with ingredients such as chicken and avocado. I would honestly compare it to Pastacup but with restaurant prices. Unsure if I'll come back given better Italian places around perth. <br/> <br/>Just a heads up, if you're planning on dining in on a Friday night, I'd highly recommend making a booking in advance.

Went there for dinner was actually quite enjoyable. Good service and atmosphere. It's on the entertainment card and relatively good value. Only downside there is no pizza.<br/><br/>Food: 4/5. Greek salad was good not too heavy but filled with feta, fresh olives and serving was large for $12. A winner. The spag bol was good at $20 enough for lunch the next day and fresh home made pasta. Not the best sauce and was a bit bland but the pasta was al dente. Overall decent.<br/><br/>Value: With the entertainment card 25 percent off good value. $24 all up for 2 people. Only downside $1 for a container<br/><br/>Service: Bit slow but acceptable. Ask for tap water or you will get bottled water and be charged<br/><br/>Overall decent honest Italian fare. Good value and was half full for a wed evening which is good. The mains though are a bit pricey but for pasta is good. Cakes I would avoid as they don't make themselves and we never know how long it's been on the counter for. Rather walk to a dessert store in Vic park

The food quality was a good standard, we had a range of dishes, barramundi perfect and not over-cooked, spaghetti marinara had lots of flavour, vegetarian penne and veal. The food made the night however lots of mishaps with the staff and communication with the kitchen. The vegetarian penne came out with bacon in it, staff were not always easy to call over with the restaurant being full capacity. We had to ask twice for a fork, twice for our coffees on top of the penne incident. We were constantly interrupting our meal to follow up on the service. If it wasn't for good food the review would be close to 1.

My wife and daughter took me out for fathers day 6/9/15 (lunch) we had a reservation and was seated promptly. They had the table ready with the high chair there set up as well. The friendly waitress took our order 5 mins after being seated. We ordered drinks a starter to share and mains each. The starter came out quickly which was perfect to keep the little one quiet but we did have ro wait a long long time for our drinks where in the end i had to ask what had happened to them. The mains came and were hudge even the kids meal is hudge. Just the way i like it. Taste was yummy and i left half a plate and waitress asked if i wanted it boxed to take home. This place was lovely good food nice staff and very relaxed with kids. Had a big dessert range as well. Will be going back

Good Italian food, went here with family and we were all happy with our food. Nice restaurant and the dessert was delicious from what I remember
Michelle
Terrible food, horrible service, rude staff , Ā we dine out a lot and I have never been to such a terrible low class , filthy restaurant that wasn't in a third world country , one of the waitresses had Ā black dirt under her fingernail , it was so disgraceful , the worst restaurant I have ever been too
Susan Betts
Wont be back. Whilst the waitress was friendly enough , I'm sorry to say that the service is severely lacking. The kitchen took far to long to prepare a simple sandwich order for myself and my partner. The restaurant wasn't busy at all,so that can't be the excuse. Ā We weren't offered condiments to go with our meals, either. The coffee was decent, but there's no way I'd make a return visit just on the strength of that. Why was the kitchen so slow? Ā 25mins waiting for two toasted sandwiches ? Ridiculous.

It was my son's birthday so came here with my family of 10. We had chilli mussels, garlic prawns, parmigiana, and different pasta dishes. All was cooked nicely and servings were huge which was a plus. Will def come back!
Bite Size
Reasonable breakfast menu for the price but coffee leaves a lot to be desired. Seems to have gone downhill since we last visited. Couldn't recommend.

Cafeteria style of Italian food, many choices of classic pasta. Taste is not bad, portion is generous, good for sharing. Overall, average Italian Food. However, $1 for takeaway container which make me not very happy. :(
Comment Mike
Food was average and the service worse. Been there a few time and after change in ownership or something it just went down hill so fast. I won't go back unless invited and then I'd probably suggest an alternative<br/><br/>Each to their own. Too many other nice places to eat for me.

They made us wait for an hour before the food come without any warning ahead of time! And it was just dinner for two, standard pasta dishes. I was late for a skype appointment so we asked them how far away the food was after waiting patiently for 45 mins. and they told us 7 mins more. Sounded promising and precise but they were actually 15 mins away -Ā  why should I believe them and eat there again? Byebye and see you never.

What a gem.. This place has large servings and traditional Italian food. If you want 5 star service, then this place is not for you. But if you want a great feed then you can't go past this one. Food is always fresh and the garlic prawns are the best around. Parmigiana's are enormous, and meals are served with chips and salad or vegies. Pasta dishes are awesome in flavour and quality. The owners clearly know what they are doing here. Had a fantastic Sunday lunch. Top marks.

Terrific food!!. Went out last night with hubby and 2 friends and all our mains, which is all we ordered, were delicious, generous and good value. The service was fast and friendly. I got the grilled lamb cutlets and which were cooked perfectly and the Vegas, chips and salad was well seasoned and fresh. We'll be going back again!!!

A rip off!. Had dinner with my family first time. We were charged corkage by the glass not bottle which is a total rip off. Overcharged for meals which luckily we picked up. And they got a meal wrong didn't get it till we were all nearly finished and when I asked for discount got told no. Very rude. Never again!

Terrible service and average food. Our table of five had one meal arrive followed by another about 5 minutes later. The last meal came out 15 minutes later. The kitchen wasn't even that busy. Not a great experience at all. We were compensated with a significant discount but we will never return.

It was date night. My partner suggested this previously reliable eatery. We hadn't set foot in the door sincere remodelling and expansion some time ago. <br/><br/>It seems the large, robust yet flavoursome fair had been also been remodelled.... Badly. <br/><br/>The chicken avocado pasta of my date found an overly heavily creamed sodge of protein. The matchstick sprinkled dry parmesan itself clearly showing its packet heritage should have alerted her to the lack lustre underside. <br/><br/>My marinara had some jumbo looking scallops... faint in any taste, but hello prawns. Large in size they were cooked well and the mussels were plump and tasty. The nepolitana sauce had a hint of chilli and had me wanting. It seemed more pasty than saucy but coated my choice of fettuccine well.<br/><br/>Extra parmesan supplied this time came in the shaker..caked powder. Bleh<br/><br/>Take note no linguine options. <br/><br/>I guess this is when one says it's just honest food. Well it would be if it was the Tuesday night special. For circa $25 main pasta I expected alot more. Another precursor of the quality was that spongy garlic bread that had more grease than flavour. <br/><br/>The service was fast, but given the uncomfortable hard seated metal backed chairs I was glad. <br/><br/>In sum.... It Was, But Is No Longer<br/><br/>I'll be hunting elsewhere for that Was

Excellent Food And Service. I ordered the chilli mussels for a starter and they were cooked to absolute perfection with such great flavours I really enjoyed them and they were a big size so you could definatly share them. For my main I got the veal scaloppini with the mushroom sauce it tasted so nice I've had it at many restaraunts before and it was the best one I've ever gotten. I would defiantly go there again the staff were lovely and so helpful. I don't understand all of the horrible comments because I experinced nothing any of them said. Would definately recommend going there!!!

Terrible service. We have been your loyal customers for years, we came before for breakfasts, lunches and dinners before. Unfortunately, recent experiences made me determine to not come back to you again in future. If you want to survive in the food industry in Perth now, especially when your food is not that special that customers can't go elsewhere for - you need your staff to brush up on their customer service skills! Rude, slow, inattentive, unhelpful are an understatement.

OK Food shame about the staff. Went to Catalano's a few weeks ago an the meal was so so. My Parma was over cooked and dry and the chips were cold. Others at the table said there food was OK. However, the biggest problem is the staff!!! Yipes...the three that I encountered could all do with some training in Customer service and Customer friendliness. May go back if there weren't any other alternatives.

Luckily not deterred by recent reviews. Just had a very enjoyable Italian meal with friends, very helpful and pleasant staff, and at $35/person - very good for a 2 course outing.<br/><br/>Was somewhat concerned by the recent negative reviews - maybe management responded and made necessary changes - certainly no negatives experienced tonight.<br/><br/>Have followed up with Urbanspoon as this is shown as BYOB - I thought Beer but it is BYO Wine only. Fortunately our friends bought wine so plenty to share. 7+/10

Horrible service, for gods sake do something about the rude staff !!!! Food isn't too bad but it's the only decent Italian near me so we come here ONLY for the food. Appalling service
Girlwithfringe
Not great. Dined here last week and was not impressed. The service was fast, friendly and helpful which was great considering the dining room was huge and full. The servings were huge, but they've overlooked quality for quantity. My gnocchi with feta, broccoli & sundried tomatoes was swimming in a pool of oil, which I had to tip out onto my bread plate in order to eat it. My boyfriend had the chicken parmigiana, which was ginormous but overlooked and tough. If you're after a big feed, this is the place for you.

The service was rushed and quite rude , the pasta needed sauce , the waitress was argumentative , bad experience all round , will not go back

Disappointed. Attended Catalano's last Saturday for dinner usually enjoy the food and service. Ordered the fish of the day Pink Snapper plate arrived with a small thin piece of fish which was over cooked. Paid $37 so expected a bit more fish! After dinner waited quite a while no staff attended to us at this stage was not busy. We had to get the attention of staff to request the bill.

Good food. Generous serves, some really good dishes, gambarone prawns and veal scallopini masala excellent.<br/>Staff always friendly and attentive and service fast. <br/>Much less crowded and noisy since extensions last year.<br/>Will be back.<br/><br/><br/>-----25 Jan, 2015-----<br/><br/>Veal Scallopinni. With masala sauce, tender and plentiful. Real veal.

This place is crap. It's not even just home cooking. Garlic prawns were oily and the garlic tasted rancid. Chicken Parma looked alright and enormous if that's your thing. Caesar salad was left almost untouched and my pasta would have been better had I upended a jar of leggos on some boiled spaghetti. If your chasing good italian food at similar prices head to Bravos at the other end of vic park or splurge a little and cross the road to l'enoteca. I most certainly won't be back, that's for sure.

Good portions. We like to come to this venue as we enjoy the larger portion sizes and find its good value. It is a bit busy and noisy most nights but that is sign that must be doing something right...
Stacey
+++. Great meal as usual (massive serving size) and I like the look of the refurb (especially the tables at the large windows) although the new seats are extremely uncomfortable.

Little Venice in vicpark. Was a late afternoon and late booking for the wife and I. as we arrived the decor was homely and reminded me of venice. glass chandelier the art of venice its as close as your gonna get to a restaurant in venice san marco square. as we arrived at the counter and by far a very busy counter we were greeted warmly by friendly faces. we were then ushered to our table and then the waitress bought out the menus.<br/><br/>we ordered our pasta marina and with out a doubt was given a decent marina pasta. the dish was soooo impressively big and unexpected. flavours were very suttle (just like real Italian food) and the amount of seafood was well generous so generous I had to take some home.<br/><br/>coffee was ordered and not even 5 mins all 4 coffees were out on the table. <br/><br/>as the night got on the restaurant got really busy and the waiters did their best in service watching them bounce from table to table. at the end of the night after all the good service and food this was as close as u could possibly get to a restaurant in venice san marcos square minus the live classical music and basilica church in the background. <br/>will definitely be back grazie staff and all

Beware of extra charges! They will not inform you!. I brought a large group of 12 from overseas to try out the "famous" Catalano's. It happened to be one of my relative's birthday, hence we brought in a cake to celebrate. When paying for the bill, we were shocked there was a $12 charge! We then check the menu for cakage charges (ie $1pp), but it wasnt stated. When informed the waitress, we were told, "It's not stated, but we charge". Takeaway boxes are also charged $1/box & we were also not informed when requested for these boxes. We will be having a totally different experience if we were told in advance of these charges. When leaving the place unhappy, I told the waitress we will not be coming back here again, and her response was "Don't worry". How very rude! Food was so-so only, but because of the service, this is definitely NOT a recommended place to dine in.
