Review Red Basil Thai Cuisine - Victoria Park

Yolinda Badenhorst
It's a small place, so not much seating. You can bring your own wine, but will be charged corkage. We had calamari salad and Pad Thai. It was not bad and served big portions.

Excellent Thai food. We asked for extra chili's and boy...was it spicy but this was revenge for a wet, cold and windy day. Looks like the heat 🔥 got to us faster than the 📷 snaps . Very prompt service and staff were very friendly.

I recently found this restaurant and highly recommend it. I am from Melbourne and have found it quite difficult in Perth to find eateries matching Melbourne's food standards. In my opinion, Red Basil Thai does. I love their Pad thai prawn (with five fat and juicy prawns!) and their veggie spring rolls (which are homemade). Thanks to the chefs and owners for your beautiful food! The customer service is also lovely.

After so many years, customers still coming to this place, it's a proof that the food is good.

Excellent value for money! My go-to restaurant for cheap and delicious Thai food. The serves are quite large so I always end up taking home leftovers. Highly recommend the choo chee fish!

Delicious food! Love their fried pork belly and fish with sweet and sour sauce. Restaurant is quite small, but it didn't bother us as we booked the table beforehand, food came out pretty fast and service is good.

Each restaurant has that ONE dish you crave. The best dish is their Red Basil Sliced chicken with rice, MILD ! quick, easy , delicious ! Good mix of veggies and proteins, always the best for $13. Been going there for 10 years, can never fault this particular dish. Ps this small family run restaurant can get busy quick so go either 30 mins of opening or closing. Don’t expect a smiley hello and welcome when they are running, $13 for the best red basil chicken is a steal with or without a smile. PS2 i said MILD… because it’s modern Ely spicy …..don’t ask for medium spicy or you’ll suffer. If you have a death wish, simply ask for spicy.

Of all the Thai food I have tasted in Perth and I frequently go to Thailand, this place is as authentic as it gets. The food is outstanding, prices are reasonable, portion is considerably huge and very fast. Place is small so might need to wait during busy hours but worth I wait. I have been eating here for 3 years now, I always order the Steam glass noodles with prawns, it is a must try! You will not be disappointed :)

Order anything, and you’ll love it. Been here multiple times and never been disappointed
Roger Campbell
Very busy but very helpful. Loved the chicken larb, red chicken curry, garlic and pepper dish and satay
Jesse Kitson
Always amazing food and the staff are always friendly. Service is prompt and you get your food quickly. Always love this little local.
Dina
Incredibly average. This place use to have a great reputation but I'm afraid something has changed.  The massaman curry was watery, the beef was lean and the potato was undercooked. We won't be returning.

This restaurant is currently my favorite Thai restaurants in Perth! For the price, you can’t fault it.<br/>Their cashew nut noodle is the winner. It’s one of the best fried flat rice noodle I have ever tried. Don’t forget to ask for spicy if you like spicy food. My second favorite is their chili basil crispy pork.<br/>One thing though, you might want to book in advance because the restaurant is small and it gets packed very quickly.
Deb
Ordered the lemongrass beef which was tough, awful sauce. Another vegetable dish tasted the same. Would not recommend this place.

Me and my family have been long time regulars. Very small so seating is limited. But if you can't get a seat the takeaway is very quick and worth considering.
Matt
Small authentic thai restaurant. The restaurant is mostly full since there is very limited seating. Would recommend red curry, massaman curry, tamarind and chilli fish & the salt and pepper calamari.

Fresh, simple authentic Thai food. <br/> - 4.5/5<br/><br/>OUR TAKE <br/><br/>We usually prefer to cook our own Thai food, as we think we do a pretty good job, especially considering the price point of most inner-city Thai restaurants these days. However, Red Basil goes above and beyond what we could ever achieve in our kitchen. <br/><br/>FOOD<br/><br/>Truly one of the freshest and best tasting Thai food we have ever had. Our regular orders include the peanut satay, any of the curries, and the spring rolls. If you are a spice and coconut lover, the tom kha soup warrants a special mention, as it is out of this world in flavour. Portion sizes are large enough that you will have leftovers to take home. <br/><br/>VIBE<br/><br/>Red Basil is a small, simple Thai kitchen style restaurant that would be easy to look over when walking down the main street of Victoria Park. With simple décor and only a limited number of tables, it is essential to book beforehand. While not a fancy dining experience, the food more than makes up for it. <br/><br/>SERVICE <br/><br/>Service is excellent, the staff are quick and friendly. <br/><br/>CRITIQUE <br/><br/>The only downside is that the size of the venue makes it feel a bit cramped, other than that, however, there is nothing to critique. <br/><br/>OVERALL<br/><br/>If you want simple and delicious Thai food, Red Basil is easily one of the best we have ever been to. Highly recommend.

Very clean in an awesome location. Extra tasty food that is ready quickly. I would definitely be go back for takeaway or for a casual delicious meal đź‘Ť

Have been here many times. The food is always fresh and delicious, Food comes out so quickly and consistently amazing. Hands down best Thai food in Perth. Do yourself a favour and eat there.<br/>
Maureen
Authentic Thai food, well presented at reasonable prices BUT customer service non existent. One smile or pleasantry from our waitress would have been nice
Bill BOZO
We had booked a table for 4 some days ahead. When we arrived at the agreed time, no tables were available and no hint of an apology for what would have been a long wait. When pressed, the solution was to place two (different sized) tables together  with backless stools.  Apart from the actual seating, this solution was pretty poor as we would have been less that 30cm from the nearby tables. The waitress' attitude was "here it is - take it or leave it "<br/>We left - with this amount of indifference, we thought is the most prudent thing to do.<br/>It is a small fast eating cafe. I obtained the impression that it is the sort of place that you would eat and then leave - little comfort, no ambience and indifferent service.

The food is great, I can't fault the taste- except for one thing. It says it's a Thai restaurant, but the taste is starkly different to the real deal. I'm Thai, and I've tasted the true flavors of our great food. Our curry is mellow, not too creamy and just sits on your toungue. The one here is extremely thick and attempts to choke you. The fried noodles don't incorporate that smoky taste that simply HAS to be in that dish. Well, I don't want to rant. Remember folks, good food, but unauthentic.
Sophie
Unfortunately the Massaman beef was the worst I’ve ever had and I’ve had plenty around Perth and overseas. It was tasteless with a thick layer of fat across the top. Quite frankly it tasted like a 3 week old reheated stew with one chunk of meat not even my cutlery could get through. <br/>Twice I witnessed the wait staff rubbing & picking their noses (while serving). The general cleanliness around the restaurant was bad too, and as we went to pay I looked behind the counter (out the back) to notice mounds of unclean dishes etc lining the walkway into the kitchen (I wish we saw that before we ate). <br/>Not the Thai food (nor restaurant) that we’re used to unfortunately.

Beautiful food. Well priced and full of flavour. Chicken stir fry with basil sauce is a winner. Loved the papaya salad and pinapple fried rice as well.
Rohit Khopkar (Follow Me On Twitter @rockster999)
Lovely place, transports me back to Thailand everytime. The staff is very polite & the food is delicious, the fact that they are busy all the time is a clear indication of how good this restaurant is. Whether it's take away or dining at the venue; Red Basil never dissapoints!!!
Thien
Great place to enjoy some thai cuisine. Make sure you book a reservation before you arrive as this place can get really busy. Restaurant is a bit too small for a big group of people to gather but overall the food and staff are great.
Milky Teng
Small restaurant and is always packed! Portion size is not big but is justified by the low price. We ordered Tom yum soup, tamarind and chilli fish, and beef salad and the total bill is around 40 dollars. That’s pretty affordable decent Thai food. I liked the tamarind fish the best. Just wished the rice was not so hard and dry.
Sasha Christianson
Love this place. Never had a bad meal here and food comes out quickly. highly recommend the chilli basil crispy pork belly and whole barramundi deep fried with tamarind sauce đź‘Ś
El
Delicious food, big portions and very affordable.<br/>The entrees (potato prawns and curry puffs) were rather small (disappointed only because they tasted so good!) but still not expensive.<br/>It's a tiny restaurant so make sure you book or else you might be sent away for a half hr until a table becomes free.
Lily
It was a busy Sunday night with lots of reserved tables but we came at a good time and were accommodated.<br/><br/>We ordered the Tamarind fish, red curry with large rice and Pad Kee Mao. The rice was indeed large and too much for 3 people (larger than size of curry) but suited the large portion of curry. The fish (4 large pieces) was nice and soft, had a tasty sauce with just a little bit too much batter. Pad Kee Mao had quite a kick of chili to it but authentic flavours overall. Thai milk tea was not too sweet and a good balance of flavours.
Foodie In Paradise
Been craving for some Thai food lately so decided to try out this restaurant while we were in Vic park . Both dishes that we had were very flovoursome. However, the stir fried vegetable, the Kai Lan was far too old/ mature to be cooked and we found some complete yellow leave Kai lan within the dish. <br/>Service was good and the potion size was quite massive. I would still come back to try their other dishes next time.
Drjames
Really nice people, made a great recommendation about what to eat, quick, fresh, delicious!<br/><br/>I recommend this place to any visitors (I’d just flown in for a few days)

I came to this place yesterday with my mum for dinner. I made a pre booking in advance just by reading from past reviews that it's better to book a table in advance. I can see why, as this restaurant does have limited seating since its small so it's best to book a table beforehand to avoid disappointment.<br/><br/>We ordered the penang curry with vegetable n tofu then pad khee mao(Spicy Noodle) with chicken, fried fish with tamarind sauce and finish off with steamed basmati rice. My mum wanted the Thai black tea but unfortunately they did not have it anymore.<br/><br/>Pennang curry tasted delicious. I could feel the coconut milk flavour and the spicyness of the curry as I was eating it with the rice. Since we wanted the curry to be Spicy, it was indeed very spicy. My eyes were watering, lol but I definitely enjoyed eating it with the rice. Also I occasionally mixed with the fish which reduced the spicyness for me. Speaking of the fish, the fish fry with tamarind sauce was very good. Crispy battered fish with the red tamarind sauce tasted delicious. My mum was a big fan of it as well. Lastly the pad khee mao tasted amazing as well. These noodles were Spicy and the chicken was perfectly cooked and complimented well with the thick noodles and vegetables. I really enjoyed eating it and crying at the same time, haha! Also I loved the use of green beans used in all the dishes, I really enjoyed eating it in the penang curry as well as in the noodles. Not a big fan of eating beans but loved eating it in this way in Thai food. <br/><br/>Overall me and my mum had a great experience at this restaurant. We enjoyed eating all the dishes we ordered. If you want anything Spicy just let the waitress know. They really don't fool around with the spicyness of the food here. Customer service was lovely and very quick response in getting the food to us. I'll definitely come here next time to try more dishes. Remember to book in advance if your dining at this place. Till then, Ciao!<br/><br/>

Won’t come to this restaurant anymore. We ordered a tom yum fried rice and chilli basil chicken rice. The fried rice is extremely spicy and salty and the chicken rice is very very spicy too. I told the staff that the rice is terrible and she just said ok. I don’t know what is that mean!!! I almost didn’t eat the fried rice at all and I brought it home and add more rice to it, however it’s still very salty and spicy.
Lady X
Ordered 4 dishes for 3 people: tamarind chilli fish, red duck curry, pad Thai with squid and glass noodle salad with seafood. My favourites were the tamarind chilli fish and seafood glass noodle salad! The seafood glass noodle salad was spicy and sour. The red duck curry was pricey as the meat pieces were mostly bone as no meat. The pad thai was average, not bad but nothing to rave about. This place is quite small and was full even on a weekday night, so be nice prepared to wait for a table

One of the top places for great Thai food. A few of our favourites:<br/><br/>👍 Pad Thai with Fish/Calamari<br/>👍 Pineapple Fried Rice with Fish/Calamari<br/>👍 Glass Noodle Salad with seafood - lots of fresh and zingy flavours<br/>👍 Kai Lan with Crispy Pork / Crispy Fish<br/>👍 Green / Red curries - both are creamy, tasty with a slight spicy kick<br/>👍 Sticky Rice with Mango<br/><br/>Fried fish pieces are always crispy, light and no fishy smell- a delight to eat! Potatoes prawn and curry puffs are alright, not wow but still enjoyable. The beef in their red/green curries is a bit tough and chewy to our liking; much prefer the Massaman Beef Curry. <br/><br/>Been to the newer branch, Garden Thai Cuisine, which is also along Albany Highway. A much more spacious place with plenty of seating. Food is great and tasty too, however dishes can be a little too heavy on salt at times. Just make sure you let the staff know if you prefer less salty dishes and they will cater to your request. Not a fan of their Thai Milk Tea though; couldn't taste any tea at all as the drink was way too sweet. Nonetheless, overall food is still delicious and yum. Service is also warm and welcoming. Happy to come back again and again.

Great place! Food is tasty and staff are friendly. There is sometimes a line if you don't prebook but it's worth the wait. I suggest you come with a group of friends so you can try more dishes!
Redneck Willie
Best Thai food I’ve had in Perth so far, although after going there more than 20 times now I think they need to change the menu now and again!!
HungryHippo122
Tasty and honest food. Red Basil is great for a causal mid week dinner or 'eat and run' weekend feed. Friendly atmosphere and speedy service. Very satisfying eats!
Finleyhimawan
One of the best Thai cuisine I've tried so far. The taste is authentic and their service is always friendly and accommodating. You may want to book in advance as they're always busy. We like everything we tried today. The Thai beef salad is tender and fresh, the chicken basil and chilli stir fry is tasty and have a bit of a kick to it. The duck red curry special is so yummy and the duck is fall off its bone. Our favourite dish has to be the crispy pork kailan. We couldn't get enough of it! We would definitely come back to try more next time!
TH87
I love the pineapple fried rice of this place, the prawn potato entrance are really good, the price is right for the portions, the only thing is that is a very small place so I rather to buy take away and the extra charge on card, I normally don't use cash but I have to for this place, because the minimum for card is 30 AUD.
Umut Ă–zkalfa
One of the best Thai restaurant in Perth. It is very small restaurant so it's better if you book before go there. Their pad Thai is very delicious and also I would recommend you to try seafoods.
One Tonne Experience
Had a fabulous meal here with a friend and couldn't believe that we ate less less than $50. Certainly a easy come and easy go place to have a great valued meal. <br/><br/>3 dishes we had:<br/><br/>1) Tamarind and Chilli Fish - great tender deep fried fish in the sweet and sour tamarind chilli sauce<br/>2) Glass Noodle Salad - quite a wonderful concoction of flavours true to the real Thailand<br/>3) Kai Lan with crispy pork - would have probably not have ordered this next time as didn't really fit well with the other dishes, still least we had some veggies.<br/><br/>Definitely a place to take friends and family to impress without hurting your hip-pocket. I'll be back for sure.<br/>
Green Foodie
Verdict: If you are in Vic Park and are craving for some spicy Thai food. Have been here a couple times, the portion are relatively small for me and only the spicy menus are worth eating. Restaurant space is also limited. Unfortunately, I've always suffered upset stomach after every meal here. I would prefer elsewhere for Thai food though.
Joalda7
Great food well priced. Very return-able.. Food authentic. Smallish restaurant so be early or book. We have been fairly consistently over a 14 month period and there has never been a decline in service. Service is quite quick.
Maverick4ll
I rate this one very highly. Definitely up there with the best thai in perth. The prices are reasonable. Only advice would be for takeaway to check what you get. Have had a few half full/ half empty containers at times from this place. Maybe it was the rush or something else, but either way when i pay the price for a proper container of takeaway then i expect it to be filled to a normal level.<br/>Dining in has always been a good experience here.
Andrew Ang
Expensive $3 just for plain rice. Waitress keep trying to sell us milk tea. Food is average.. Thai green curry so small portion for the price.
Georgia Palladino
Nice authentic Thai food, the venue is absolutely tiny! seats about 20 some people might like this sort of setting but I would prefer to dine somewhere a little larger. Pricing is very good, Would come back.
Marcus
Amazing quality Thai food for the price.  The place is small and basic but the food was fantastic! I ordered a beef dish that didn't come out but cancelled it as the two other dishes were huge.  I'll be back!
E Kinnaird
Ordered take away chicken noodle salad. Literally had a container completely full of rice noodles and about 3 flecks of chicken mince, 3 cut up cherrie tomatoes and a few peanuts and chillies. Absolutely not worth $14 - also cant use card  for anything under $30 and charge 2.5% for pay pass. What a rought! Complete rip off!
Lesley Anne Waay Sales
This place is our go-to Thai restaurant around Victoria Park! The restaurant itself is tiny so make sure you book in to avoid disappointment. Favourite meal that we order is the chicken Pad see Eww, stiry fried kailan with Crispy pork, thai fried rice and Pad Prik King! Mind you, if you don't like it too spicy let the staff know and they will cater accordingly. Otherwise, spicy lovers this place is the bomb!
Neha Kumar
Very good food, good quantity and reasonably priced. The prawns with potato noodles starter was the best thing I had here. Fried fish with veggies in oyster sauce was also yummy.
Verena Klarmann-Potschka
Amazing original Thai food for very reasonable prices. Best Thai place in Perth! Absolutely love it would always go back. Small place so reservations are good.<br/>
Samsee Malhotra
Been here few times. And every time the food is really really good. Highly recommended.. Friendly service and amazing tasty food. We normally order penang curry and chilli basil.
ML
Nice and authentic taste of Thai. We ordered a pineapple fried rice, Tom yum soup and a green curry. The pineapple fried rice were a bit too spicy which took over the taste of the sweet pineapple but it was ok, the green curry and Tom yum were both good, mouth watering spicy dishes. Staff was friendly, a small little restaurant.
Adam Lee
too inconstant. one week i have a great pad thai and green curry, next week i have the most average pad thai and green curry. its like i need to gamble for which days to go at. but it never goes below average so if you are craving thai food its a good place. seating is small so take that in mind
Gabrielle Trenbath
We've been here often and have never been disappointed. The food is always super yummy and to die for.<br/><br/>Because it is such a small place, It can get a little packed.
Juanitaclare
Have been twice now, once for lunch and once for dinner, and both times have found the food fresh, flavourful and generous and the staff very attentive and welcoming. <br/><br/>I would gladly come again.
Scott Phan
tiny place but great food! had the spicy basil stirfry with crispy pork, missus had the pineapple fried rice. be warned, they're not kidding when they say spicy !
Bite Into It
Everytime i want to come here, this place is always packed. But when dining in here, the staff are friendly and helpful. The food comes out pretty quickly as well so that was a bonus, especially when they are at full house majority of the time.<br/>Servings here are generous, food tastes amazing as well. <br/>Will come back here again if we are lucky enough to get a table by chance.
Katie
So good! Very flavoursome and fresh. Definitely recommend booking and will definitely be back soon. Had the massaman curry and basil and chilli rice with curry puffs and spring rolls between 2 of us. Big portion sizes.
Wulan Sucipto
The staffs are friendly. But i don't really like the place, it's too small and squeeze. The foods are standard. I came here with some ladies friends for lunch but nothing is impressed me.
Lola
This place is small but the food is consistently delicious! The Lemongrass Beef is my absolute favourite and the Penang Curry is amazing too. Definitely worth trying.
Pearl Clarke
Very friendly service. The food is so fresh, flavoursome and comes out quick. I love the red curry, the coconut cream makes everything come together perfectly and just the right amount of spice. You definitely get your money's worth! :)
Ruth Elizabeth Turner
Lovely Pad Thai ! Great Value , Spring rolls very nice<br/>Very small venue, even quite full at lunchtime on a Saturday<br/>friendly staff<br/>Extra fees to pay via card !
Haelwen
Delicious phad thai! Seafood was perfect and chicken was lovely too. Spring rolls were also very nice. Small shop but not too busy at lunch time (may have been lucky!)
Kudokun
Strong THAI cuisine with authentic flavour! I had been here a few times now, with a few failed attempts in getting seats because the restaurant is small and limited seating. <br/><br/>Favourite dish here would definitely be the curry. Love the green curry here I think it has the perfect balance of spiceness and I just can't stop myself from slurping down the curry gravy it is yummy! The red duck curry (at $3-$4 extra) is a decent alternative too!<br/><br/>I tried the tamarin and chilli fish and while the fish is soft and fresh, the flavour is too strong (too sour) you couldn't really eat much in one go, and you need plenty rice to balance out the flavour.<br/><br/>Price is decent too for the given portion, not too expensive. But this is the first place I've been too that charge additional 20cents for paying with Debit card.. Yes, not credit card, but debit card.. Not fussy about the 20c, but find it to be amusingly different.<br/><br/>Service is realy good with polite staff and quick serving time.
Tara Bites
OH. MY. GIDDY. AUNT.<br/><br/>Seriously, this is the best Thai I have had for so long! The duck curry is rich, spicy and creamy. Hubby loved his Thai beef salad.<br/><br/>Looking forward to coming back and tasting more!
Nikki
Best Thai food in Perth! Amazingly fresh and flavoursome. After our first visit, we have already been there thrice in a week. With a range of dishes to choose from, every dish has a unique flavour and taste. Ensure you make a reservation as this place is always packed.
Lauren Mortas
Love this place best Thai in Perth, very small venue need to book, byo and massive portions always a pleasure eating here. Favourites are chu chee fish, som Tum (Thai style ) and massaman curry.
LiVE
Okay most people initially go for a pad Thai or green curry which is okay but not mind blowing.<br/><br/>BUT! if you're coming here, you HAVE to try the basil chicken/beef dish (with rice), heck it's the name of the restaurant. This is my favourite and I need a fix of it every week now. <br/><br/>Feeling extra hungry? ask them for double meat (sliiiiice) and you'll have a happy food coma for $12.50. Just don't ask them for spicy unless you can really take it. <br/><br/>If Seafood is your thing - has a good portion but taste wise you need to let them know what you like to spruce it up ...or its a little bland.
MSG Foodie
Delicious Thai Food!!! Satay chicken is so tender and fragrant!<br/>Small place so booking is necessary. Pad thai is so good...and stir fries are fresh and delicious.
HotChocolat
Best Thai food in Perth or what!!! Great food and great service. Book in advance, they are always busy. It's a small place ideal for a group of 2-4. Anything more is a bit tough to accommodate but they try their best. It's open kitchen so you smell, hear and see what's cooking!!
Mita
I just loving there! Any curry, chicken basil, soup, salad, everything very tasty and good price setting compare with other Thai.<br/>I normally order with sweet milk tea, feel like I'm in Thai! One of Chef make very spicy so if you don't like spicy food, ask them to chilli on the side or make it mild! Tasty tasty! Recommend!
Asha
Really enjoyed dinner here tonight, fresh and flavoursome. The smell is amazing as soon as you step in the door, it's a small dining area that's always packed, so highly recommend booking a table here. We ordered the Fish Cakes and Potato Prawns, Chicken Red Curry and the Pad Thai to share. I was surprised how quickly we received our food they don't keep you waiting long. Great service, great food I'll definitely be back again soon.
David
Tasty food at a good price. I suspect they are on the tax dodge due to the reluctance to provide a receipt or use eftpos.<br/>Best value Thai in the area though.
Jelly Belly
Red basil is still one of our favourite dinner place in vic park. The food gets prepared very quickly (sorta) in front of you and they are flavourful, reasonably price and yummy! My favourite from this place is the crispy pork kailan, red curry, steamed glass noodle and massaman curry.
Thai Foods Lover
Foods were delicious and prices were reasonable. The Staff also very polite. I like the open kitchen idea because you can see how they prepare your foods.I found this restaurant on the web and it lives up to the reviews given here.We will be coming back to this restaurant again.

Cheap and Tasty thai food in Vic Park. Good service. They only have a small area so make sure you get there early, if not you'll have to queue up. Recommended.
Facebook User
Good food unfortunately the service was really disappointed. We placed a phone order however when we arrived to collect it they had misplaced our order. Once found we were told it would be ready in five minutes. After 5min we were told it would be another 3min. 15 minutes later we were still waiting.

Decent thai at decent price!<br/><br/>Recently moved to Victoria Park, i have no idea which restaurant is good and which one is not. When walking around albany hwy, I saw a couple bought takeaway from red basil. And the bought a lot. So I immediately googled and found the place.<br/><br/>I tried the panang curry which was delicious. It was tasty and yummy. I had to deduct the score because my veggie wasn't cook. however I do think it was a one-off and definitely coming back for another

Really like it here, they do really great Pad Thai and Laska's. Have come here many times. Lovely, welcoming staff add to the already cosy atmosphere!

We love Red Basil. Went there for dinner 6 months ago and have returned at least once a week ever since. Food and service are faultless. Very affordable. A real treat!

Ordered two mains<br/>Pad Thai was too sweet , basil stir fry was too hot ! <br/>Even they said it will be medium hot<br/>Unfortunately couldn't enjoy the meal

Eaten here a couple of times and am so far really impressed with this place. It epitomises value for money- the food is delicious and portion sizes are generous given how cheap it is. Cashew nut noodle with chicken and Penang curry with beef are my favourite dishes.

We stopped by Red Basil in Victoria Park after getting some major cravings for good Thai food.<br/><br/>The venue is a small little place that could fit around 20 or so people. At times it can feel even smaller since it gets so busy at lunch time with many patrons unable to find seats.<br/><br/>Glazing through the menu, my eyes were immediately drawn to the Jungle Curry which is made up from Thai curry paste, mixed vegetables, pepper corn and Thai herbs. Other items on offer include soups, salads, Som Tum papaya salads and stir frys.<br/><br/>The dish can be ordered with either chicken, beef, pork, fish or tofu. The nice lady taking my order warned me that the Jungle Curry was very very spicy, this inclined me even more to order it with pork haha<br/><br/>The curry was aromatic with its mixture of herbs and spices. Truth be told, this dish is very very spicy. I could feel my ears glowing red as I made my way through the dish. If you're not used to handling spicy, I'd recommend against ordering this dish. I feel it's best enjoyed with a serving of white rice but do note that this is an added cost. Portion was quite good and it had a good amount of curry and meat.<br/><br/>I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Red Basil. The food was enjoyable, staff were attentive and friendly. They also do local deliveries if you live close to the area. A good choice if you're in the area and craving for some good Thai to eat.

It was good BEFORE. Something happened, maybe a different chef?? Portion size is much smaller, curry is watery. Not good overall. The place is really tiny and noisy.

Best Thai in Perth! Can't get enough of the Chu Chee fish and green curry. The soft shell crab is always spot on. Wash it down with a coconut juice for good measure!
Diner
Green fish curry , deep fried (why) greasy fish contrasted by its soggy interior . Unimaginable , so I have posted a couple of photos to kill your appetite Management show no respect to customers feedback , I have just thrown $17 in the garbage .

Failed to impress.<br/>The food was OK, nothing special. <br/>I had the red curry- which should be always good- but it was very ordinary.<br/>Rest of the meal was just OK.<br/>Service was good tho which is nice.

Very authentic Thai food. Serving portion is big. Most of the dishes are really good. Worth the try. Staffs are also friendly. Highly recommended!

My favourite restaurant on the strip! I always order the pad Thai or green curry and Tom yum noodle with seafood - great serving sizes and price never been disappointed . Staff are always happy :) Will always be back.

Uhmm... Overall it's still okay... But the dishes are quite sweet which I find it not very decent. Nothing special about the Tom yum soup as I think that we can cook exactly the same taste at home using Tom yum paste. Probably I'm not really keen of Thai cuisine.

One of the finest. Excellent flavours, Appropriate portion sizes, and knowledgable staff. This one is tucked away, have to be a bit lost to find the entrance. Well worth the trip

Simply the best and most affordable Thai food in Perth. We are very regular and love the fresh food out of the live kitchen with great service.

Good tasting food but most impressed with the generous amount of chicken and beef in the meat dishes. Great curry puffs, best I've tasted anywhere!

Whilst the vegies in our dish were nice and fresh and the service prompt and accommodating, it was spoiled by the noodles being overcooked and the rice also being below average (dry, as if it had been frozen & reheated - yuk.) We opted for two vege and tofu dishes from the lists. Flavours were good but nothing to rave about. Won't rush back.

Such yummy food! I had the spicy noodle (which was like Pad Thai but hot hot hot!) I ordered it medium, which for someone who is normally really good with spicy food was really hot, but so good. Super cheap too! For 2 of us, with entrees, mains & drinks was under $40! Will go again, just might order mild :)

Cheap and nice Thai food. The food are well cooked and tasted good. The place can get very busy though, so better make a reservation. I came around 6pm and had to wait for 30 minutes for a table. Good for takeaway as well.

A firm family favourite notching up 8 visits in about as many months. Always a warm friendly welcome and the dishes are awesome. Seafood red curry, lemongrass beef, chicken fried rice, the best tom kha in town and, if you're brave, the jungle curry is to die for.<br/><br/>Expect small, caMNfe style dining rather than chic sophistication or hipster funk and you won't be disappointed.

Cheap but very delicious Thai dishes. Go there quite often for lunch. Everything is fresh and yummy, love their papaya salad, can't get enough of it!

Great cheap thai food. Was very impressed when a friend of mine suggested we go there for dinner. It may be a small resturant but was delicious. Happily eat there again.
