Review Broken Hill Hotel - Victoria Park

Sophie
Love their garden bar and food! Highly recommend their seafood pasta (might be marinara), baked Camembert and the platter as per the picture. Not a big fan of PB & J cocktail šŸ˜…

Pubs have changed in Perth, Western Australia. The Broken Hill Hotel is a fixture in the neighbourhood. More than just beer. The food is perfect; The setting is perfect. Serving the local population and the traveller, the Broken Hill Hotel is a proper pub.

Absolutely loved it! Can't believe we have drove past so many times and not once thought to come here for dinner until tonight.. and so glad we did. The food and service was fantastic. The pizza dough was just right, the pork belly bites had plenty of meat, the cheese was great and the batter on the wings was amazing! Great team and chef!

Yummy! Enjoyed late lunch / early dinner so nice eating outside with the good weather, both meals we correct! Perfect size and enjoyed! The tartare sauce was really good on the fish and chips! We had good foos in a nice spot with nice music, definitely will come back! Cheers!

Always a great spot to lunch and dinner. Great pub food and always a surprise with the specials. Jake at the bar gave us a very warm welcome and kept the amazing cocktails coming. Good work Jake, you are excellent at your job and made our lunch a little bit special. Cheers

Always pleasant here. Staff are always capable and knowledgeable and make a great cocktail. My favourite place for espresso Martinis! Gorgeous beer garden with an outside bar, separate TAB. Food can be consumed out front, I the beer garden, in the main bar or in the beautifully presented dining room which is semi private.

Seeing as The Broken Hill is my local, I'm sad to say my guests and I left feeling a bit disappointed after our dinner. The dining setting is great, the service excellent, the beer served wonderfully cold, but apart from desert and the fish and chips, the rest of our meals were poor. It was a Thursday night and very busy, perhaps we just picked the wrong day.

I really rate the Broken Hill Hotel, it has come such a long way since back in the day. It can be a real vibe on a Friday and Saturday night - so hats off for all the hard work and effort the team's put in to date. The only thing I don't rate, is that white marquee in the beer garden, not only does it block off the view from the street but the view out, you want to be able to see the atmosphere of the strip. It's such a shame that you're blocked in as the garden area is stunning and it almost shadows the beautiful heritage building. *I have heard on the grapevine that there is a possible retractable roof in the works, but the ETA on when is unknown. I think a retractable roof in this space would totally transform the area and really step it up, as Vic Park currently lacks beer garden and outdoor drinking spaces.

Iā€™m proud to say this pub is my local. I have been living in the area for eight years now and I have only seen this pub grow and develop. The Publican Nick is very passionate about this place and always seems to be trying out new ideas to cater for the mixed crowd that goes here. This is a great relaxed atmosphere to catch up with friends over a drink and a meal and has many areas to sit (indoor and outdoor)and has the friendliest staff Iā€™ve ever experienced in a pub. They even offer table service for drinks when they can!

Was there yesterday afternoon with wife and 2 kids , 4 and 4 months , we had the grazing platter which was very nice , the staff went out of there way to make my daughter a drink that looked like my wifes toblerone cocktail , as we was leaving a kind gentleman helped me upstairs with pram , little touches like that go a long way , we loved the place , keep up the great work , cheers

We had a party in the function room on the weekend and everything from start to finish was perfect. We had about 100 people and the pizzas and platters we ordered were great. The publican Nick came and checked that everything was in order, and the bar staff were easy to deal with. We had lots of kids there early in the night and they had plenty of room to enjoy themselves and didn't want to leave when the time came. It's a great room to have a function as the exclusive bar is exactly what we wanted. Thanks to staffers Mikayla, Michael, Valentina and Brad for keeping everything easy and cleaning up at the end of the night.

We had 15 people for Mother's Day brunch, the staff were amazing, the food was lovely and we had a great time sitting in the beer garden all afternoon! Fabulous espresso martinis just quietly!!!

Lovely pub with great atmosphere. Great outdoor area with a relaxed and happy feel. The staff were friendly and happy to serve with a smile. Our meals were very nice except the Pork belly was a bit too salty but other than that. Highly recommend

The pub has changed since the football has come to new stadium food gone down hill all about bum's on seat nowadays

Itā€™s been 20 years since Iā€™ve been inside the Broken Hill. What a difference. I have not had as good service from everyone I interacted with in Perth EVER. Meal was great pub food. I will be back.

We had our Engagement Party there on Saturday, the staff were very helpful both during the event and all the planning leading up to the day. Thank you to The Broken Hill for hosting and making our day extra special ļæ½ highly recommended for holding your event here!!!

My first visit since the re-opening and I have to say I was impressed. The eye fillet steak was fantastic and was matched by the service. So good to see chefs making real sauces - the peppercorn sauce was amazing. Recommended.

A lovely bar for pre or post dinner drinks, they have a wonderful selection of beers on tap; with some special offers going on from time to time. The service is prompt , however they need to work on their starter selection as they are far and few between. Overall a lovely place, which when weather permits has a wonderful outdoor section as well.

Stopped in for lunch and had the fish chips and salad. Absolutely gorgeous, friendly and attentive staff. Fish was beautiful, chips were probably the best I've had for ages and the dressing on the salad was exquisite and I believe home made by the chef. Well done all of you we will definitely be back to see you all again x

So disappointing... The Broken Hill used to be our ā€˜go toā€™ place for a mid week meal. The cheap steak nights really is a case of you get what you pay for and the share plate we had looked like a case of pile the stuff that didnā€™t sell last night on a platter and serve it up to unlucky punters. The last straw was the fall back option of fish and chips while being as tasty as ever coming out in what could only be described as a childrenā€™s size portion. When commenting to the wait staff at checkout I got nothing more than an embarrassed agreement. It seems like the chef is actively trying to drive customers away. I usually donā€™t write bad reviews, I just donā€™t go back but the Broken Hill used to be so good Iā€™m hoping they clean their act up so that is locals have somewhere to enjoy good pub food again.
Ashleigh Jayne
The food is very tasteless and disappointing, especially considering they don't have a very extensive menu. Staff seem quite friendly, yet there is a lack of uniforms and attire seems to have no boundaries. The establishment is quite dated and the decor does not match. They could do so much with the outside area. I do not plan to dine here again.
Teh Omnivore
Very welcoming to a group of mums with kindy aged kids on a public holiday, when nothing much else was open.Ā  The back bar was a great place to the kids to spread out and not annoy other patrons, and they even had several boxes of toys! A good variety menu, with lots of options on the kids menu too.

This is the worst pub I've ever walked into. Firstly to stand at the bar and have multiple workers walk past and ignore us. Then to order my parmi and before I've even received my card back from the cashier someone turned up with my parmi for me to carry back to my table. Once I sat down the chips and the parmi were cold and distasteful and undercooked. When my friends meals came out 30 minutes later I told the waitress of my poor meal and she tried to convince me it was fresh. Wasn't offered a new meal or any sort of compensation and was really rude. Will never come here again and will warn everyone that I know.

Thursday night dinner with friends and they chose the pub. As always we Parkes free out the back and headed for the dining room. There were a few people there but the service from the 2 waitresses was excellent. Master 13 had a massive chicken parmigiana, he had behemoth burger and I had lamb shank (yummo). Friends had risotto and gnocchi (apparently not as good as the risotto). Of course we had wine and there was no need to go to the bar for it - table service from the waitress for drinks was also excellent. Despite not being Tuesday night steak night, the meals were good value for money and affordable for a family. Enjoyed our evening there and would recommend it as a good venue for a good meal.

I've been here a few times for a pub lunch and though the food isn't always consistent I was very happy with my fish burger on my last visit and my partner enjoyed the Reuben. <br/>A great historical building with good service and drink prices. A top Australian pub.

We live local and have eaten here a few times with varying success. Today we had a few pizzas (chorizo and pulled pork) and our friends ordered fish'n'chips. The pizzas were ok, but not great. The fish'n'chips were remarkably cheap at 12.50 and our friends were really impressed. The venue is pretty great, with lots of light indoor areas and good shady outdoor spots. The service has always been good. Last year I booked by birthday here at the last minute and they couldn't have been more helpful. I ordered a bunch of platters, which were yummy, reasonably priced and the staff even waited them around the group. I was very impressed with it all. We have occasionally had a meal we didn't enjoy but overall I think the food quality has improved.

This place is very professional place.<br/>Head chef shouting orders to the staff.<br/>Service pretty good.I ordered Gnocchi it was amazing crispy gnocchi with great flavour <br/>Too bad that I'm lactose intolerant. It has a lot of Parmesan on it. But it was delicious. My mother had Confit duck it turned out to be a duck salad but it turned out yum <br/>I totally recommend this place to anybody that is looking at this review <br/>I suggest to go there<br/><br/>Baby Munchkin,<br/>

Took my mum and son for a steak and could hardly chew let alone cut it so gave up and left most of it. I could hear the people complaining to each other next to me also. My mum mentioned the steak was tough when paying the bill and the chef rudely swore and said 'it was the best #ucking rump steak in the world'. Made us laugh all night and won't be back there in a hurry. The waitresses were nice and apologized and offered us a discount to which the chef said' I don't #ucking care, do what you want.' Rude but very amusing.
Lenny
Nice pub for a drink but pretty poor food. Me and a mate went for steak night. We were told 20 min wait which was OK as they were busy. We ordered the same thing but I asked for mushroom sauce and he asked for pepper, we both got pepper sauce. His steak was paper thin and mine came out 10 minutes later and was like 2 funny shaped pieces but at least not paper thin. Neither were medium rare like we asked. It has the potential to be a great pub but the food really let it down, sadly this isn't the first time.

Last night apparently was one of the coldest in June we have had in forever. Clearly ill go out for a pint :)Ā <br/>Magners on tap went down well so decided to try the $10 steak and chips special I see daily on the banner out front. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME. Asked for a medium rare and a well done, both were blue when they came out. I couldnt even cut the steak, was revolting and filled with fat. Gravy is questionable, no taste with 6/7 chips.<br/><br/>Ā Next time you see this special, dont think 'how bad can it be' coz its bad. Travel 5 mins down the road to Franklins Tavern, as their $10 specials are very hard to beat!
Ines
I can't stress enough how much I was disappointed by their food. If you ask someone how they want their steaks, please cook them the way they want otherwise do not ask. Asked for medium rare and I got almost a sole. The three of us asked for a different cooking but all our steaks were cooked the same way. Barely got any chips in our plates as well. I'm not rating it lower just because the setting is quite nice, some nice lights a very wide area inside and outside. But the food.. :/
NRB
Some days your aching for fish and chips and tonight was one of those nights. The fish was really nice and placed on a bed of chips. My only issue was that the chips were very small remnants of chips and not what you would classify as a 'chip'. It was presented well and service was attentive. I have rated as I have because the chips really let the meal down significantly.

Another casual place to have an after work drink or weekend drink. Nice outdoor area and pretty decent indoor seating as well.<br/><br/>However, we had their Tuesday Steak special for $10, and it was very good considering the price! I've paid more money for steak and this cheap $10 was definitely better!
Skye Culley
The atmosphere and outside seating area is enjoyable and is a nice place to have a few drinks with friends.Ā <br/><br/>Although, my experience entailed myself and three others getting dinner here two weeks ago.Ā <br/><br/>I'll start off with the positives, the chips and gravy were really good and so was the pasta of the day (sans pancetta).Ā Now for the negatives...<br/>The bang bang wings were fatty and lacked flavour. It tasted like they were boiled in water and some basting was whacked on and grilled before serving them.Ā <br/><br/>I had the house smoked chicken breast which was...questionable. The chicken looked and tasted like the type you get in frozen meals and the salad was wilted. I left quite hungry.<br/><br/>We also ordered the marsala pepper calamari and honey and sesame prawns and enjoyed them both. Although the calamari was a bit rubbery and not to my personal liking.Ā <br/><br/>We aren't planning to return here for dinner but would return for a few drinks and the chips and gravy.
Drum_tum_tum
Came here for a drink on a Saturday night and sat outside in the beer garden. Service was nice and quick but probably due to the fact that it was DEAD. I would say this place would be awesome if it was packed. Maybe in summer? Love the whole beer garden was no smoking. :)

Certain food orders are better than others here sure, haven't tried the parmi and clearly it's not winning any popularity competitions....but there are other things on the menu I have really enjoyed from the salads to the seafood plate to the arancini balls. Ā <br/>Also it's a great pub to just wonder down to and have a drink.
Matt Loves Eating Out
These guys got two chicken Caesars very wrong. Thought we'd have a quick & easy lunch. Dressing? Bacon? Cheese? ...<br/>Come on, there's too much competition to get this simple stuff wrong!
Riley Morrell
Chicken Parma was so bland and tasted like pasta sauce, pulled pork burger was dry but the coleslaw was okay. Wouldn't eat here again
Thekittaysmeow
Always my "go-to" haunt when im too lazy to try anywhere new or think of elsewhere to go. I've not yet been dissapointed by this place, good sized servings of food, haven't yet had a bad meal here.
Izzy Alyce
Absolutely disgusting burnt parmigana that wasn't even crumbed. Definitely not worth the high prices, why is it so hard to find good pub food these days? Been here twice now and both times my partner and I were disappointed which is a shame because it's such a nice pub. The arranchini balls used to be great but they took them off the menu
GobbleGuts
Disappointing. Ordered the fish and chips and was taken aback by the kid size portions. 3 fish fingers and french fries for $21.50. Better off going to our favourite fish and chips shop! Definitely won't be back.

DON'T ORDER OSSO BUCCO!. I ordered the Osso Bucco thinking this was a good choice. I have eaten this dish before and knew what to expect. However I was not expecting what I received. This meal was served with couscous and bread. If it had not been for these additions I would not have had anything to eat. The Osso Bucco itself consisted of a bone half the size of my dinner plate with about 30gms of meat on it. When we told the waiter that we were not happy with the dish, he came back and told me 'That was the way the meal was meant to look'. So no appologies or offer of compensation. In short my meal was a total rip-off! I will not eat there again.

Did not enjoy our meals. Cold chips, cold steak sandwich. Small tough steak. Chicken Parma was bland and flavourless.
Steak Or Chicken Guy
Great Steak Sandwich. Friend had soft shell crab also and was impressed

Don't like. Seafood platter was terrible, prawns were awful.. service was terrible. Rude

Chicken Parma was so bland and tasted like pasta sauce, pulled pork burger was very dry although the coleslaw was alright. Wouldn't eat here again.

Really Happy Birthday!. I booked the Verandah for the Brasileira's birthday, a group of 15 Friends and family. Pre-ordered finger food (Arancini, Squid, Chorizo) and got issued a bar card as soon as we arrived.<br/><br/>The young ladies running the restaurant were very organised - the first serves of snacks were on the pass as guests arrived. A second serve was ready within a couple of minutes of my asking. <br/><br/>13 different mains for 15 people, and all arrived in a timely fashion. Everyone enjoyed food from pizza and steak sandwiches to pork belly and lamb fillets. <br/><br/>Birthday cake (we supplied) was ready to roll at exactly the right moment.<br/><br/>Food + bar bill came to around $40-00 per head and I'd say value for $$. Excellent service. Well done.
Mo Loves Chilli
Great atmosphere but very bland food I had the pizza and it had hardly any toppings on!!
Helen
Rejected. Even though we were 10 people for dinner could not get in because 3 of us had thongs on !! I realise its your rule but from what era ? My thongs were 60 bucks , my friends probably more but apparently thongs make you rejectable material. Its like telling someone in England not to wear a jumper.<br/>This is a hot country wear we can wear casual clothes if we like and we do. Is your restaurant fine dinning
Debbie
Thanks for seeing reason. Went for a drink to find the steak special night. Ordered 5 steaks which came at staggered times the last being a good 40 mins after the first. I was clearly unimpressed and told the waitress as much in an assertive not aggressive manner. I suggested a free round of drinks and after some initial resistance am pleased to say management saw reason for the inconvenience and did in fact give us a free round. I would like to thank staff and management for their general respect of providing good customer service and even while the steaks were very nice, it is for that reason we will be back. Well done very much appreciated
Arepasinqueso
Nice place. Went here for a casual dinner for two on a Monday night and was impressed with the decor, cleanliness, staff and food. Service was prompt, food was nice and the serving sizes were good too. We both had chicken parmigianas and I thought mine was good, my niece thought hers was ok. Overall I had no complaints and would eat here again if I was in the area.

The Great Tomato Sauce Rip-Off. We dined last night; I ordered the fish and chips and my partner the mussels along with two glasses of wine. We found a table and awaited our fare. All seemed well until my fish and chips arrived and I asked the waitress if I may have some tomato sauce...<br/><br/>She replied ā€œtomato sauce is 50cā€<br/><br/>This had to be some kind of joke, what restaurant charges customers 50c for tomato sauce when theyā€™ve just spent over $50 on a pub dinner??? What restaurant of any worth demands 50c from customers while theyā€™re seated at their table??? Are times really that dire for the Broken Hill Tavern that they felt the need to sting their paying customers an extra 50c for a squirt of the red stuff? Are prices not exorbitant enough in Perth? Yet the Broken Hill Hotel is endeavouring to squeeze (pardon the pun) every last drop of blood from their paying customers....is nothing sacred anymore? <br/><br/>As a side note, my local pie shop provides complimentary tomato sauce and I only need to spend $2.95 for a steak and cheese pie.<br/><br/>Basically we were held to ransom, if I wanted to enjoy a dab of the red stuff with my fish and chips I had to produce 50c. The waitress stood there while my partner rummaged through her handbag for the Holy Grail (50c) and then shuffled off to the kitchen to retrieve my prize.<br/><br/>Upon her return I expected to be lavished with tubs of sparkling tomato sauce adorned with gold and silver, while busty maidens danced around my table....however, I was given the equivalent of a half filled thimble of tomato sauce, barely enough to last through half of my meal of fish and chips.<br/><br/>Broken Hill Hotel you've taken money-grabbing and rip-offs to a whole new level. We won't return. <br/>urn.

Good effort by the chef. We came by for lunch on saturday around 2.30pm. it was still fairly busy with big family tables around when we arrived. food took a little longer than expected ( perhaps we were just too hungry by the time we ordered). the meals gave the WOW factor when served to the table but unfortunately it ends there. the steak sandwich and lamb rump we had gave us the impression that it was made from a modern young chef, with high ambitions to please. however, he/ she has yet to translate the skills into the dish. my lamb rump was promised to be medium rare, but came out to be medium well which was dissapointing to my palate. I would happily return again in a few months' time to see how the dishes have improved.

Uninspiring Lunch menu. Went out for my sisters B'day lunch on a Tues, finding it hard to find a place open for lunch on a Tuesday. Very average service and when the meals came out, totally uninspiring and over priced. My parpadelle with lamb ragout arrived stone cold and my sisters scallops were covered in bacon, not pancetta and weren't caramelized properly. Will not be going back

It was crap. Had lunch there today had to say was the worst meal I have had in many years I was in a party of 5 and 4 of our meals were very ordinary I had a pork belly that Was raw very chewy that came with over cooked pumpkin chips all 6 of them and some green purƩe and not normally a had person to please but it was crap

Went for a few drinks before dinner - not my type of scene - ok for a beer & to watch the footy !

Average food, overpriced. This place has long been a frustration for me. I've worked in Vic Park for the last four years and been to the Broken Hill many times for leaving lunches, drinks after work and various other functions. As a pub it's fine. Pleasant beer garden, clean bathrooms, casual atmosphere. As a restaurant, I'm sorry but it sucks. People generally expect pub food to be tasty and ...ok maybe not cheap if we're in Perth, but let's go with tasty and not ridiculously priced. This place assumes a lot in it's meal prices, just don't assume a good meal. Average food, expensive prices, mediocre wait staff - harsh but true and I've been enough times to know. Pasta dishes are gluggy, non-steak meats are dry, tasting plates are off-putting in a way I don't quite know how to describe. The pricier dishes on the menu (steaks and fish etc) will be a small serve, and anything you order which arrives in a generous sized serve won't be something you'll have an appetite to eat much of. They also like to play the game of sending you round in circles when you're a patron in the restaurant to get your drinks. Go to the counter because they haven't taken a drinks order for the table and they tell you to go to the bar. Go line up at the bar and they send you back to the restaurant. Which is it? I can appreciate many places these days can't offer a split bill option. If you don't, don't do this. And now they don't even accept pre-orders anymore "never have" - not true. Just take the order and cook it when the table arrives if you're worried. You don't make more money by not doing it, you just have tables occupied for longer for the same amount of money, and you deter larger (often corporate) groups comprised of individuals for who aren't shy to order the priciest thing on the menu, they just don't have all day to sit around and eat lunch out. <br/>Either lift your game or lower your prices to suit the quality of your food and the way you operate.
Fair Critic
Oh Dear. Living in Vic Park we like to support local and having family who are in hospitality across from Melbourne ( and recent golden hat winners) we gave the Brojen Hill a go. What a mistake - one 'chef' or perhaps cook hand at best - more lettuce than 100 rabbits could eat coupled with slimy leathery barramundi written on the menu as crispy skinned - would be evicted if on MKR. pick up your game please - with AFL around the corner and Albany Highway becoming a vibrant strip - improve our be left behind
Inormint
Great pub. Great food, reasonably priced, friendly service with good selection of beers on tap, worth a look.
Emma
Worst dining experience ever !!!!<br/>Had to find some one to take our order after waiting to long ,food was tasteless ,staff were rude ,entrees took forever waited for over 30mins and even our drinks were not brought out till I went n asked after about 20 mins sitting there waiting when I complained the manager on argued with me on waiting times and did not once apologise for our bad service !!! Shocking
Food 2 Run
Nice little beer garden and the streak sandwich is pretty good not the best but ok for the price. Nice clean and staff are nice. One of the better pubs in Vic Park.

Disgraceful. Customer service .... Whats that?

Not much point having half the venue smoke free, that crap just wafts across the rest of the area. Takes me back to the 90s coming home reeking of ciggie smoke I guess.

FANTASTIC, I LOVE THE PLACE. Had Lunch 2 days in a row, 5th and 6th, both were with groups.<br/>5th Melbourne Cup Day, big crowd.<br/>GREAT SERVICE, very nice Staff, <br/>Food Good, one little problem with the Roast Beef Fillet, was cooked rare, as in my opinion it should be, BUT my friend likes hers medium, now cooking this for a Crowd who all needs to be served at once would be hard, so perhaps no not do Beef for a Crowd, as this was a Set Menu Beef could be difficult to get right. though mine was just how I like it, so just a small comment.<br/>Rest of the food that day was FANTASTIC. <br/>Staff made sure our Wine Glass was always full, EXCELLENT.<br/>Another little problem was the TV, we could not hear it properly, but as my Nags did not win who cares.<br/>On the 6th another Group, we could have the Specials or choose from the main menu.<br/>Friends had the Pasta and Fish, both said GREAT.<br/>I had the Pizza, so nice, the Pepperoni was a bit hard for ME that is, but the rest was DIVINE.<br/>Other friend had the Chicken Wings, She LOVED them, said some of the best ever.<br/>Sweets were to DIE FOR, on both days.<br/>Coffee on both days was GREAT.<br/>On the 6th we were with a Group of about 30 and Service was FANTASTIC.<br/>So we will be BACK that is a given.

Had a great scotch fillet dinner and a lovely chocolate dessert. great pub food and location, we had a good time.
Gabi Herlin
Such a slow service. Food was alright but took such a long time to be ready. Kind of disappointing.
Pedro
I went there today for lunch with my fiancƩ and niece for a relaxing lunch. I had ordered a steak sandwich and the other two ordered burgers. I saw that my steak sandwich was out on the counter and it sat there for over 10 mins till the burgers came out. Then a further few more minute as they added chips. I finally got the order and had a bite only to bite into a cold steak sandwich. Very very disappointing and also caught the waitress picking her nose. Will not be returning nore recommend this place.
Lily
Have been here a few times since we live in the area. The food is pretty good, a bit pricier but much better quality then the other pubs on the strip. The service is pretty shocking and the bar staff seem to have really bad attitudes. Everytime i have been there I have been met with service that I can only describe as insulting and condescending. One bartender in particular, a young guy with dark brown hair and facial hair with quite pretentious and inadequate customer service skills. One time after he had insulted both myself and my friends we were walking through the pub and overheard a group of people discussing how rude that particular bartender was to them also. I would definitely not return. It is not a welcoming place at all.

Waited over an hour for food and drinks. Excuse - lost our order!!<br/>Enough said!

Delicious. We popped in here for lunch today. The starter of ciabatta bread and olives was delicious. Very good value main courses of fish and chips and pizza. Good wine list.

SUNDAY LUNCH. We decided to take Dad out for lunch at the Broken Hill Hotel and we were so glad we did. The food was just delicious, the atmosphere very relaxing and our waitress so lovely and helpful. The prawns were very tasty with crunchy herb bread on the side and my brother in law said the Caesar Salad was the best he's tasted. Thanks guys we will definitely be back.

Bad service again!. What is it with bad service in this place? Tuesday evening, bar half empty and I still cannot get any of the bar staff to serve me. Walked out after 10 minutes through sheer frustration and went to the Vic Park Hotel where I was served within seconds of arriving. I am giving up on the Broken Hill - food better at VPH anyway!
Brian
Great spot for mid-week lunch. Have been a few times for lunch during the week, good range of tap beers and good pub food, and service is good but that's expected given not too busy. Best thing about this place is the courtyard, it's big and breezy with music that's not too loud but enough to create a relaxed atmosphere. <br/>Ordered the reliable fish and chips, prepared fresh and is better than most pubs around.<br/>Only negative in terms of dining is the inside bar is not great to eat, it's definitely for watching sport and drinking. <br/>No complaints though this is a great relaxed place to eat.

Kid friendly?. Visited the Broken Hill Hotel for a family members birthday lunch yesterday. I have two young children so was hoping that they would have a kids menu. Had a quick look online at their website and was no mention of a kids menu, so had a look on Urbanspoon and in one of the searches it was listed as kid friendly, so you would assume a kids menu but thought I best ring the Broken Hill Hotel to check and was told that no they didn't have a menu as such but had two options, a pizza or fish and chips. No deals or packages and a very limited menu for children, especially if they have allergies. <br/><br/>I don't expect them to have a kids menu or cater for kids, but maybe they shouldn't list themselves as kid friendly to avoid confusion.

Came down on a sunday evening, great live music in the garden bar (Perth artist Nathan Gaunt). Had the baby calamari, served salad style, delicious, dressed in a light dressing but still lovely and crunchy. Not oily and beautifully tender. And the crispy pork belly (entree),good sized portion, tender and most importantly crisp crackling, not the fatty pork belly many have come to expect. Rendered properly to produce a tender moist cut. New house cut wedges are spicy and crispy a vast improvement on the (chicken booster) frozen variety

Chilli mussels never disappoint :)

Wonderful service and great food! Went for late lunch; chose a selection of entrees (pork belly, grilled chorizo, steamed mixed greens, mash with parmesan, oysters), and everything was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and of generous quantity. We'll be back for sure.

Disappointing. I often look forward to some 'pub grub' but this time our party was let down. I want to start by saying the service is friendly and warm - the food not so much. I ordered the Chicken Parma that came out not crumbed, burnt, with a slice of ham on top with burnt cheese on top of the ham. Hoping I could salvage the meal by eating the chip serving , I could not as half where not cooked through. My husband ordered the Fish N Chips with two of the smallest fillets I have seen from a main menu item. I would expect this as an entree at entree prices. The rest of our guest had similar experiencesā€¦.

Tuesday night steak.. At $15- for a steak, chips, salad & pint, it's excellent value. All up, very tasty. Try. Recommended.

What's not to like?. For $20 on Tuesday's you can get a good steak ( cooked medium rare as requested), a small amount of chips and salad and a glass of good red. Terrific value and staff were efficient. Just wish they didnt put steak on top of chips as they became soft.

Went here the other night since unfortunately it's the closest pub to my house. Beer is expensive though the range of both beer and spirits is ok. Ordered the porterhouse steak which came out cold, the 'jus' was just watery steak juice (also freezing cold). The spinach just looked like it had been microwaved, nothing special about that. And lastly my steak had been cut into little pieces for me?? This meal cost $35. I don't know about anyone else but when I eat out I don't like paying top dollar for food I could cook at home in my bloody microwave. What a joke.

Brilliant. Get there soon!!. Dropped in with friends & hadn't been there for years. Lots of specials at the bar including ice-cold middies for $5 and a nice bottle of Sandalford SSB for $28. Stayed for dinner and had a brilliant meal. 4 of us shared a tasting plate ($30) and an entree serve of Pork Belly ($12.50). Tasting plate was a great start to the meal & though it wasn't specifically to be shared by 4, there was enough to go around. Pork Belly was UNBELIEVABLE!! 3 big juicy sqaures with crackling and served with a sweet honet and lemon grass sauce for $12.50!!!! Yes, $12.50! Wow. All our mains were $19 or $20. Fish was apparently fantastic, chilli mussels were spot on, and the steak sandwiches were tender and melted in my mouth. We really had a fantastic night out on a hot balmy night, with well priced drinks and a very nice menu. By the way thye restauarant is separate from the pub and fully airconditioned. Casual but very well put together.

Lovely start with delicious lemon lime and bitters - something most places don't seem to get the balance of, but can't complain. We only had entree's to leave room for dessert but after garlic pizza bread, pumpkin, feta and chive arancini balls (that were amazing) pork belly (big hit) a side salad and a side of mash ... We went away full and content and would not rule out a return visit. Good prices, lovely menu and fantastic service!

Chinese Whisper. Zen green tea liqueur, Tanqueray gin, lime juice, mint, soda & lime garnish - WOOOOOO such an awesome cocktail!!!

Wouldn't write home about it but also would go again one thing I can recommend is the lamb shank balls sounds horrible but amazing

Currently I'm 50/50 on this one, yes I know no one likes a fence sitter, but thus where I'll stay. The Italian pizza that came our way was not enjoyable, although the follow up with chicken, rocket, pumpkin an pine nuts was far superior. The flavours were balanced leaving you with an almost healthy feeling after eating all the greenery. Food 6/10 service 5.5/10 decor 5.5/10

Nice, efficient, good martinis. Need more greenery - salad 50% protein. Beautiful building.

Bad produce. Having been told by a friend who is a chef that this place was ok , i took a friend out to see for ourselves.went on a tues which is there $5 steak nite.not trusting their budget steak i opted for the best one on the steak menu...a 350g as opposed to the 200g budget steak,my friend went for the second best, both were full of fat, hers was just gristle and rare, the came out with about 4 chips on each plate and they dont serve sauce with the steak .....what the...just littlle portions of mustard, tomato or bbq...listen if i paid 5bucks i would just say thats what u get....but i paid top dollar and got shit,if u want value for money 20buck beer and great steak...OXFORD HOTEL..beautiful food,,,great steaks for 20bucks ...with a beer

Tasty food. Have been here recently on two occasions. Once on a Friday night with my husband and for Sunday lunch with the family. Had the pork belly which was scrumptious on the Friday. Service was friendly and timely. Went for something lighter when we went for lunch. Husband had the beef and chorizo pizza, daughter had ceasar salad and I had the steak sandwich. All were well presented and tasty. We have been here on previous occasions as well and always found the food and service to be consistent. The surroundings are pleasant and I really like the funky artwork on the walls.

On the up and up. Have been coming here since the renovations a number of years ago and has tended to fluctuate, however their new menu is sensational! Been there three times since their menu reinvention and have been completely satisfied everytime. I would argue that many of their dishes are the best of all pubs on the albany hwy strip. <br/>Definitely have to try the pork belly and herbed chicken skewers with saffron risotto cake. <br/>Hopefully their new chef is here to stay!

Average food and very expensive but I suppose that's everywhere in Perth! Won't be rushing back! Could be a great bar, it's a shame!

I love the cocktails here and the staff have always been really friendly with me. The food is not as good as it used to be but the pizzas and calamari are pretty enjoyable. I just wish they would start serving cocktails at the outside bar - would make summer drinks so much easier!

Not A Show Stopper. I have had a few nice meals here, not a show stopper!

Used to be good.. This is the house of my favourite cocktail. The randy little kiwi. I can never drink too many haha. I used to love the food aswell. I've had great beef cheek, great fish and roast lamb but the last couple of times the food has been appalling. My last ever meal at The Broken Hill was kangaroo with horseradish cream & beetroot salad. Let's start with the salad. Fresh rocket, under ripe toamatoes, bland beetroot, creamy feta and walnuts with very sour dressing. A sauce that looked jellyish and tasted of bland watery mayonaisse, no horseradish in sight and finally a nice piece of kanagaroo that was completely ruined. Not one ounce of pink & it was so chewy my jaw hurt & I gave up.<br/>Service has always been average & sometimes you wait 1 hour+ when it's not busy so all in all I will be making my own randy little kiwis at home from now on.

Good food, not cheap,,. I think the chef is/was ex-Balthazaar? Closing the kitchen early and cooking pub food?<br/>I have dined here for lunch and dinner a few times.<br/>Anyway, the servings are not great sizes, and expensive, ie the scallops were tiny, few and not worth the mains-price for an entree.. service is good though, especially at arrival, however you will wait if it is busy.<br/>Best to try tasting plates or go for a main.<br/>Nice renovated setting, can get noisy being right next to the pub though, imported beers are very expensive, was better when it first opened, I would say Balmoral has better value compared.

Below average. Not a fan of this place for food but very nice location and atmosphere for a drink.<br/><br/>Have eaten here several times and evreytime have been disappointed. It's not just one thing in particular, it's just the way things have been cooked that are below par. Prawn skewers before were over cooked and so slightly mushy (perhaps they were cooked from frozen) and the pizza is lacking in toppings.<br/><br/>For a drink, def. the go. Good menu and it's in an awesome location. Tends to get busy on a weekend and the beer garden is sweet to sit and chill out in.<br/><br/>Go it for the drinks and take good company. If the idea is to eat, I suggest hitting one of the awesome restaurants along Albany Hwy and then making this your end point for the evening.

Had a great Friday lunch. Calamari and risotto extremely tasty. Service great. Great range of wine by the glass. In and out in less than an hour.

The people I went with and I all honestly have to say we had the worst experience eating out at this place compared to anywhere else in Perth. Unfortunately nothing positive to say at all.

The food is a bit hit & miss. The service has quite often been horrible. The best thing about this place is the cocktails.
Mmmjustlovely
So we ordered the fish and chips andā€¦..gasp it was actually fresh! flaky, and delicious, their homemade tartare left something to be desired but the dish overall was great, with plenty of flavour and a nice salad to go along with it. The crispy pork belly was much too sweet for my liking though, and the crackle missed that teeth hurting crunch. Their prawns with lemon and chilli dressing was very nice and light (beware the garlic though! good thing they give free breath mints at the end!) and the steak sandwich was perfect pub food. It was odd that this place was so empty though ā€“ maybe because it was a Monday but it was great for us as the service was fast, and the staff were great.

The pizza was very good. It tasted fresh and handmade. The tomatoes were very sweet and the feta made a good addition. Overall, I was very impressed with it.

We traditionally celebrate Australia Day in our household by throwing a Triple J Hottest 100 countdown pool party. Joined by our close friends we devour lots of good food, drinks a plenty and generally end our night with a short stroll to the end of the street to view the fireworks show. In the ten years we have lived in this house we have only had one year off when I had the misfortune to be rostered on to work.

I felt surprisingly satisfied despite the small meal, but that didnā€™t stop us from sharing some dessert: the chocolate and hazelnut cake with proper custard and berry compote for $9.50. Usually Iā€™m not a fan of hazelnut with chocolate, and cannot understand why anyone thinks Nutella is an indulgent treat (though Iā€™d never say no to those marbled shell-shaped chocolates). But to tell you the truth, until I checked the name of the dessert
