Review Brown Sugar Cafe - Victoria Point

Dan Charlton
Came for Sunday breakfast, really nice menu with everything you would expect. Coffees were fantastic and staff seemed nice and friendly. The food was the star of the visit though, our breakfast was amazing. It was all the things you come and expect done really well. Outdoor setting was nice and I’d recommend giving it a go.

Another delightful breakfast at our fave local Cafe this morning! The chef even took time to show us his special seasoning and look after our smallest diner! Always amazing food and service!

I think the stand out for our visit to the café was how warm and welcoming staff were. From the moment we entered we were greeted and offered menus and seating options. We only had coffee on this visit which was good, both flavour and temperature. The staff mingled with patrons and informed them of upcoming events, and checked on their meals. A lovely spot worth the stop if you’re heading out the bay area. Ample parking in front and down side streets.

Nice café located close to the Victoria Point Reserve and the Redland Bay bikeway. Friendly service, nice coffee and a range of snacks and breakfast. Outdoor undercover seating on the deck overlooking Coburn Avenue. Street parking available adjacent.

Had a renovation and went back to see how it was. Massive improvements not only in the setting but the food and service also! Staff where very friendly and helpful. Food was great and reasonably priced. The only thing we noticed was that our omlette was very oily/buttery. Dog friendly with parking at the back of building. Wheelchair accessible.

YUM! Delicious food, friendly staff and exceptional wait time. The regulars are treated like friends and newcomers like myself were welcomed warmly. A perfect little cafe to visit. Indoor and outdoor seating, vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Amazing food and customer service. It's my go too Cafe in the Redlands. The new owners are awesome as well. They're always friendly, happy and welcoming.

Such lovely service and food We made the mistake of ordering a ‘freak shake’ each and a lunch meal each. We finished our freak shake and could not even fathom eating a meal! Luckily the wonderful staff packaged our food up to take away and we enjoyed it at home after a few hours of digesting! Both the food and drinks were amazing, good value bf or money and great selection for those with intolerances. The staff were all very approachable and friendly too!

Service has slipped. Poorly trained staff.

One Kiwi woman seems bright and organised, the rest are slow and disorganised. Tables not cleared. Staff sitting in a booth.

Actual conversation:
“1 mug of cappuccino to have here please”
“What size?”
“Mug please”
“Cappuccino?
“Yes please”
“Take away?”
“No, have here please”.

Why are they so ponderous?

I visited Brown Sugar for the first time on Saturday. Ordered eggs Benedict @$17, a three stack of waffles @$19 and two freakshakes @$12 each.
The meal sizes were impressive to say the least! My milky way and marshmallow freakshake had no marshmallows 😒 Plus I was charged $72 for an order totalling $60....
I will return, however will be paying more attention to what I'm charged and served next time....

No communication, no cleaning had been done anywhere, foods cold and not what you ordered, flies everywhere. Watched owner abuse other patrons due to wrong order multiple times i watch him quote this poor young lady as he shouted at her face he doesn't care because he is rich!
Disgusting behavior i will be advising everyone not to waste their time here and will most definatly not be returning. First impressions count. Hope the owner learns to treat his customers better.

I went here today with my 2 year old daughter for the 1st time. I had been wanting to go for quite a while.
I had the Nutella waffles which were delicious but I don’t think it quite made up for the service.
They were busy of cause because it was Mother’s Day, not once it they advise how long the wait was so sorry for the wait. I had to ask twice how far away our food was. A group of ladies had been waiting over an hour for there meals. A reply from one of the staff members - yea a lot of other people have been waiting a long time as well.
A lot of flies were hanging around the uncleared tables the staff were just walking past.
Hate to say this would be my first & last time I will be going here.

This place has gone downhill. We went there for brunch today. 30 minutes after ordering, one unhappy staff member comes out to tell us they did not have ham for one of the orders - fine we’ll have bacon instead, but no apology. Then the food doesn’t come out for another 10 minutes and comes out staggered. The rest of my family had finished their meals by the time mine comes out. Again no apology. Just rudeness. Food was average. Would’ve had a much better experience if that staff member was a lot friendlier.
Won’t be coming back anytime soon.
Callum Terry
Coffee is average at best. Food is pretty good.

I have been here several times and each time the coffee seems to be a different kind of bad. The food is good, really well made and tasty. Mushrooms are next level.

Went here on a public holiday which I knew would be busy, was advised of a 40 minute wait for food which was fine. My friend got the burger special for $11 which was a huge burger and chips while I got the eggs benedict for $17 plus an additional $3 for sourdough, unfortunately whilst my lunch was delicious it was a palty serving compaired to my friends which was slightly disappointing.
Chloe
Careless food. Acai bowl was a sloppy mess, and was not served with half of the fruit that was stated to accompany it on the menu. Very disappointed, asked a waitress what happened to the rest of the fruit and she said they had no strawberries, but took it back and added what fruit they did have. This should have happened from the beginning, or I should have been made aware of their inability to create the meal as described. Staff were polite but I will not be returning
BrisbanEats
Good coffee. Well made. Slow service, waited 15mins in off peak time for 2x take away coffees. No cafe vibe. Handy location on the way to ferry.
Stretch_89
This was totally underwhelming. I ordered the açai bowl and ended up with this sloppy mess. Needless to say, I didn’t eat it and wasted $14.50.
The two other guests I was with ordered mushrooms on toast, which wasn’t much better. Poorly presented and not a lot going for it flavour wise.

It’s extremely disappointing that the easiest meal of the day (breakfast) is executed so poorly.
This to me shows very little care being put in by the kitchen staff.

I will definitely not be returning to try this place again.

I was disappointed. The food wasn't what it used to be. Have loved it and really enjoyed it in the past. And the cafe wasn't as clean as it could be. I felt a bit sad. The staff were lovely though.
Christinadaw51
Had read really bad reviews on this place but wanted to try it out anyway! Food didn't take long at all and we both loved our meals but my eggs were a little over cooked and the bacon was not cooked for very long. Apart from that it was delicious!!
Shahna Hudson
Very nice cafe, lots of options on the menu and they are happy to customize orders. HUGE portion sizes! We ordered the American waffles minus the eggs and the Brown sugar deluxe brekky with added baked beans and chips. Delicious food that came out looking beautiful and tasted just as good! Quality food/ produce and everything was fresh and brought out in quick time for a busy Sunday morning.

I previously wrote a review painting this place in a relatively good light, after visiting today I have to change my review to match my experience. To put it simply it was so metiocre I won't be visiting again, after ordering we received our beverages at the 15 minute mark for which mine was wrong resulting in a mild allergic reaction, they then corrected their mistake within 5 minutes, mind you this totals twenty minutes thus far.
I ordered the tradies special no chipolatas to be replaced with bacon for which I asked for the bacon to be extra crispy.
An hour passed and still nothing then one of the staff came over and asked what our orders where because who ever had taken down the order wrote literal nonsense, we cleared it up and 15 minutes later our food came out, my Turkish bread was hardly toasted and was soggy due to the amount of moisture left by the eggs, the bacon was hardly cooked and only the streaky part of the bacon was crispy however the eye looked like they had little cook time and the eggs where verging on undercooked. If I had maybe paid $10 it wouldn't have bothered me but this was a $22 breakfast, not good enough I'm afraid.

I put in a bad review and my friend has set me right. I have been here 6 times and this was my only bad experience. Will I go back again? Yes. They need to redeem themselves, and I will give them that opportunity and will try poached eggs again.

Original review: DON'T order poached eggs. Mine came out with the inside white the consistency of milk. I complained and they re-did it for me. This time the whites were bubbly like they were fried and threw hot oil over it. And they had flat bottoms?? How do you do that with poaching? Egg yokes were hard boiled. I can't blame the staff though, they are all kids.
Goapeforcake
This is a DIVE! It's filthy and the staff have run this into the ground.
Average wait time is 40/50 mins that's if the staffs friends don't come in for a social gathering and order food 40 mins after you and get fed before you! At this point we had,had enough and asked for our money back!
The staff are all wearing short shorts runners and bra straps showing from their singlets, the awning out the front is ripped and there are dirty dishes splayed around everywhere and aren't cleared unless u do it your self or ask for it to be done. The glasses are all filmed with bits of old debris on them and lipstick marks. The floors hadn't been mopped in god knows how long and the flies are in plague proportions more than likely because of the piles of dirty dishes full of food scraps all over them. The kitchen floor had chips and other food scraps all over it and they have dirty tea towels on serving areas.
Staff are not washing hands after their breaks and are using mobile phones during cooking. This place is a health risk and should be inspected before someone gets very sick from their lack of hygiene.
Then sweep all the lazy staff out and re employ people who know how to run a clean professional cafe.
After reading all the rest of the reviews and seeing how far back they go with the same problems I'm at a loss as to why this hasn't been inspected or the owner done anything about it. I spose they do well from unsuspecting customers who haven't looked for reviews and expect that everyone does their jobs properly!

Will never be back - we reserved a table knowing it would be busy being Sunday morning. Got there, there was no one to greet us or even acknowledge us to show us to our table. Any passing staff wouldn't make eye contact with us. Had to wait in the order line for a while just to ask for our table. Staff member at the register was unfriendly and unhelpful. Our table still hadn't been cleaned since the last customers. No glasses at the water station for ages with no one coming to replace them. Had to go to the counter again to ask for our table to be cleaned and for water glasses because we couldn't get anyone's attention. Coffees didn't come out until after we had finished our food. They used what tasted like cooking cocoa to my husband and I as sprinkling chocolate on the cappuccino. Noticed quite a few unhappy customers. For the price we paid for brekky, it was not worth it. The pancakes were ok but nothing special and certainly didn't make up for the poor customer service.

Visited today as it was the only place we could find something to eat in Victoria Point. Ordered our meals and drinks. Watched the drink I ordered (Milky Way shake) get delivered to another table who had literally just placed their order of which the family said nothing and accepted it. I assumed they had ordered the same thing and hence mine would come out a bit later. We then watch them try to deliver our coffee to the same table which was rejected (apparently they weren't interested in a free coffee). The coffee doesn't come our way, just back inside. Our meals arrive, mine was great, my boyfriend's was nothing as described on the menu. We mention we haven't received our drinks. My boyfriend's coffee which we saw go back to the kitchen 10mins earlier comes straight back out - Cold! I finish my entire meal when the waitress proceeds to tell me that they are really sorry but they are out of Milky Ways and hence are unable to give me what I ordered. We ask if it is because they gave it to the wrong table of which she confirms and blames her colleague's handwriting for the error. I ordered something else but left without finishing it as it was not what I was in the mood for.
Stuart
Coffee cold and wrong size, meal not as described. Gave our order to the wrong table so drinks came out after meal and was the reason the coffee was cold. Didn't offer to replace it so I didn't ask.
Brandon
Staff were friendly however did slightly over charge us for our meal (which they did fix after we brang up the error). Food came out a little slow however was good quality and decent value for money. Probably the major issue of our morning was the fact that it wasnt until after I ordered and then recieved my mr big meal that they said they couldnt do the steak and offered to provide me with a different selection of my choice from the menu. What was most frustrating is that i asked for the chicken which didnt end up coming out until 5mins after i finished my meal and there excuse being that they forgot about it. Despite all this, we couldn't deny that the food was delicious.

Expensive for low quality. Poached eggs aren't gooey, look to be cooked in a mould, and the bread was rock hard. Used to love coming here for their tasty food and large portions but I won't be coming back. Looks like there's a new chef or management.
Christian Thomsen
Trendy cafe with great decor and ambience. Service was of a good quality and quite fast in bringing out meals. We ordered the eggs bennie and club sandwich - both of which we were quite happy with. One downside was that the eggs were undercooked, however, with a bit of white jelly on the plate. Looks like this is the case for many other reviews. Would go again. Recommended

Overpriced horrible food, my wife and I both got food poisoning from this place, never again. Waste of a drive there and even bigger waste of a day throwing up and being sick, the place should be reported to QLD health.
James
Came here for lunch. There was a long wait for coffees, one of which was a long black, and an even longer wait for food, of which each plate was brought out separately. The food was at least nice, but not worth the length of time we waited
Alisha Owen
Came here early in the afternoon with my partner, we both were disappointed. Tables still had dirty dishes on them and waitstaff didn't clean them until customers sat down and asked for them to be removed. Our coffee's were luke warm and my partners eggs were really undercooked (had a lot of that white jelly bit still visible). We didn't enjoy our experience and will not be returning here. I would not recommend.

Came here at about 11AM, the place was relatively full, it was raining so many of the out door tables couldn't be seated. We sat inside at a very small table. We looked at the menus that all appeared to be water stained and ordered breakfast, my girlfriend got a New York sub which had egg, bacon and Bearnaise sauce while I got a big breakfast (cant recall the name).

We saw a group leave next to us after finishing their meal and watched as a waiter walked straight passed the unclean table to go on his break by the looks of it. The table remained unclean until a man sat down seeing as there was nowhere else to sit and another waitress had to go and clear the table, bit unprofessional.

We got our coffee I had a mocha which came in a glass cup and my girlfriend got a cappuccino which was in a mug, the mocha just tasted like chocolate flavored milk and the cappuccino coffee was unquestionably burnt, some of the worst coffee I have had.

We then got our food which didn't look too bad, I would comment on the idea of chips and steak with a breakfast meal but I ordered it so I am supporting their weird menu in that sense. My girlfriends sub was pretty good, she enjoyed it and I had a couple of nice bites, my meal was okay, the big let down were the eggs, uncooked, raw white part of the egg was disgusting, I ate half of one egg then place the rest aside.

So I cannot really give this a good score, the service was bad, the coffee was bad and the food was poor-average. I think all up it was about $40 for us two which isn't too bad but there are definitely better places in the Redlands to get breakfast.

I think better management and some staff training could really go a long way for this cafe.

Was looking forward to trying this place after seeing the nice pictures on facebook but so disappointed. We got there about 12.10 there weren't to many people but there were plenty of tables with dirty plates on them. We had to clear a table to seat ourselves as the young girl we asked to clear it took 2 dishes and didn't come back for the rest. We got our own water jug and glasses from the station provided, 2 of the 3 glasses had lip stains on them and the water jug had food on the handle. We waited about 20 mins for 1 of the 3 drinks we ordered to come then another 10 for the remaining 2. While waiting for our food I watched one young girl go from her break playing on her phone and eating straight to handling salad without washing her hands. When the food finally arrived (1hr later ) the toast for the club sandwich was rock hard and the chips tasted burnt like the oil hadn't been changed in months. We had to ask for cutlery which the girl took close to 5 mins to find and wash some then she handed it to us by the end you eat with :( very disappointed with our dining experience over all. The staff showed lack of direction and no common sense, no one really seemed to know what they were doing. Very poor customer service. Will never go back no recommend
Kate Martinique
Really average food, the images on Facebook are far from the truth. Small and expensive meals, totally disappointing. When we mentioned the poor quality to the waiter he just walked off. Apparently no manager available to speak to us, just young inexperienced staff. Was told they had a new chef and were busy although place was only half full. Very over rated, we would never go again.

Always happy with my meal & coffee every time I visit, havnt had a bad experience yet.
Staff are always friendly.
It can get pretty busy so sometimes it's best to book a table.
Not bad prices
Love it
Shannan Goddard
We were served dirty lip mark stained water glasses, chips that looked and tasted like they were cooked a week before and bread you could hammer in nails with! Very very disappointing and so expensive! NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN! only giving 1 star as i cant give a 0

The whole time we were there, we were complaining. No cutlery or sugar/salt on our table or water and glasses, plus our table was an old rickety, dingy tressel table (could of at least had a table cloth). Counter service which meant half our table was lined up for 20 minutes (and I'm not exaggerating), it took an hour before our meals arrived and young staff walking around confused and unhelpful. The food was average, nothing amazing but not horrible. We won't be returning.
Renee Lawrence
I think I'm onto a winner here, good coffee, impressive milkshakes a perfect big breaky and cheap kids menu.
If only they had table service. Also paying upfront at the counter meant I only had one juice and didn't add more drinks to my order when I kind of wanted one because I couldn't be bothered to line up and pay again half way through my meal.
Will be back for sure.

I was just in there for breakfast this morning and I have to say my experience was awful. Hands down worst meal I've ever had out. I ordered the halloumi breakfast and added mushrooms, my friend ordered fried eggs with bacon and avocado. We waited an extremely long time for our food. Service was really poor. My poached eggs and her fried eggs were raw. Like literally running egg whites all over our plates. The eggs also hadn't been draining after poaching leaving a big puddle of water in the middle of my plate. My toast had soaked up a lot of the water and was saturated and inedible. The staff were completely incompetent. I watched plate after plate come out of the kitchen and do laps of the floor with your dim witted wait staff asking each table what they ordered. And to top it all off there was a family at the table next to us and the woman changed the baby on you bench right in the middle of people eating. I was disturbed and disgusted that none of the staff approached the woman to highlight the health and safety implications associated with handling human excrement in a food service area. Nor was there use of any sanitising product by your staff. Absolutely disgusted by the whole thing. Worst experience.

After seeing pictures of the food on Facebook my boyfriend and I though we would go for a 40 min drive to have breakfast. We both where extremely disappointed in both the food and the drinks we had. The food was bland the poached eggs where Microwaved the mushroom / tomatoes were horrible and as for the ice coffee it was just ice cream and cream there was hardly any milk or coffee in it I can most definitely say we will not be going back again

My husband and I went here for breakfast last week because we have seen images of their food posted on Facebook every now and then and it all looked very impressive.

It's a lovely little cafe with a nice atmosphere. No table service FYI just in case that sways you (we're not fussed) and food came out fairly quickly (they weren't too busy).

We ordered an Iced Mocha, a Lime Milkshake, a half serve of Eggs Benedict with a side of Haloumi and the New York Sub. Firstly, I loved the options they have for sides! Very impressed. The drinks were good and the Iced Mocha even came with a Cadbury Flake (or alternatively branded equivalent) on the top! My husband absolutely loved the New York Sub and my Eggs Benedict was also good even though half of the yolk wasn't runny... Lucky I'm not tremendously fussed by that haha at least some of it was runny.

The only bad thing I have to say was that the haloumi was overcooked... So the overcooked, burney taste kind of overtook the delicious haloumi taste which was very dissapointing because to be honest, that was what I was looking forward to most.

I'd be willing to give them another chance because it seems like they may not be very consistent. I'd like to think that there are days the egg on the benedict is all deliciously runny and the haloumi not over grilled. Would I discourgae people from going? I don't think so. As I said, my husband really enjoyed his breakfast and I'm just being honest about my experience so I'd go back again.

This was our first time here and probably our last. We decided to stop at this cafe because it looked busy.
Firstly I wasn't impressed by the girl at the till telling me there was a 30 min wait on food AFTER I had paid ( although she was apologetic saying she forgot). When the food arrived -2 dishes 5 mins apart, there was no cutlery and no napkins on the table. I had to go and get the cutlery myself from the kitchen.
My steak sandwich was ok but the steak was tough/chewy and quite hard to eat logistically.
However the coffee was good.
Andrew
Not our first time here but certainly our last. It wasn't just that we had to clear our own table or that we had to wait an hour for our food but rather the whole experience. I believe this place is riding on the coat tails of it's former glory and similarly a victim of their own former success.
As for the food... Ignoring the mistakes it was average at best. The French toast was doughy the toast on other meals was both burnt and cold. Actually nine of the food arrived hot. Worst of all the mushrooms arrived swimming in water which sadly made everything else on the plate soggy and unpleasant.
Princess T
So much potential however fails to hit the mark. Empty tables yet covered in dirty plates which we had to prompt staff to clear, waited over half an hour for 2 coffees and then breakfast.. Well almost an hour and still haven't even seen that yet despite asking numerous times as we all have other commitments. Told several times it's coming they continue to serve new customers, already had to cancel one as our guest had to leave. Sort yourself out guys - definitely the last time we choose to come here.

Well we Enjoyed our Late Breakfast on Sunday Morning
Nice Food & Friendly Staff...
Even did a quick Birthday Muffin with candle at short notice 👍👍👍👍👍

Slowly getting worse each time we go.. My husband and I called in to have breakfast on the 16th May 2015 and we were extremely disappointed. To enter the coffee shop was tricky as the staff had set up the tables, umbrellas and portable partitions so that customers had to squeeze their way through the gap bumping diners as they ate. My husband ordered a tradies special and it was luke warm to cool and the eggs were still gooey. All I could taste in my green machine drink was ginger, after I returned it, I was given another one which tasted like it had been watered down and there was green juice all down the side of the glass which I wiped off. Then one of the staff leant in front of me as I ate my brekkie, to hand my husband cutlery. When I went to get a clean glass for water they were stacked up alongside dirty dishes, I wasn't sure what was used or unused. We sat inside as it was cool outside but this was a mistake as you could constantly hear the owner asking staff to go to the counter and take orders and take drinks and meals out. We began eating at this café about 4 years ago and often took family and friends there to catch up but the service has slowly got worse over the last 6-8 months. The staff appear to have changed, there is lots of young untrained staff that are very unsure about their role. Perhaps some more mature staff or a combo of both, might work better. Our brekkie cost $60.00 and it was money wasted and we wont be back. Other locals I have spoken to also agree that the café has taken a nose dive.

Shaun. Went for breakfast, after a game of musical chairs as staff booked a table of 16 with clearly NOT enough tables several people were asked to move. Coffee came out after we had finished eating.
Sausages were stone cold and the staff were all kids with no customer service expierience. Very dissapointed and will not be returning or recommending to any one!!!!

Very consistant with the service, food and coffees :)

Hit and miss!. Never constant! Lot of staff but all kids. Ate breakfast there and received under cooked eggs with my salmon. Had nothing else during to the day and by that night I threw up for 6 hours. Want be going back!

Valentine's Day 2015. The love of my life and I celebrated our Valentines Day Breakfast there this morning 14 February 2015 (We Traveled From Greenbank) and our experience was amazing and the food was to die for

Waited in line for 15 minutes to order breakfast and when it finally arrived it was very disappointing. Wait staff seemed dazed and confused. We certainly won't be going back

Service Issues..... Visited for a quick coffee this afternoon, service was well below standard, given incorrect change and continually annoyed to clean our table of our unfinished coffee cups. When questioned about incorrect change...excuse was "its been happening all day" .....Management need to take a good look at there basic service standards. Coffee was good.

Great Brekkie Experience. As a business owner in the food industry we set our standards high and were not disappointed when we have been at Brown Sugar of late. The wait for the food considering the amount of people that they are serving is only about 15 minutes and the food is delicious and fresh and the coffee excellent, and the staff are friendly and are fantastic at their job considering how young they are. They are trained well. Well done Lauren and Pete.

User reviews. We also have been to this cafe many times and have even left feedback for the manager via facebook. BUT each time we go the food & service is going down hill. Now I know things are hard and times are tuff but if you don't keep a track on the food sizes & service level it will oonly get tougher!

Soft poached eggs!? Not even close.... We have come here a lot but lately we've noticed a massive drop in standards which is disappointing to say the least. Today was the last straw, the waitresses were rude and cared more about having a chat amongst themselves, which don't get me wrong I'm more than fine with that as long as they can multitask which today was evident that this was not the case. When I finally got my banana smoothie it was somehow watery and tasted like they had used a quarter of a banana at the most! Then came the food I ordered a morning glory with soft poached eggs and a side of haloumi, the eggs came out at about the consistency of tyre rubber and the tiny thin little strips of haloumi were burnt and tasted terrible, in the end I just scraped off the avocado, feta & eggs then just ate the toast. Brown sugar needs to go back to their former glory and focus on their best as there are a lot more amazing cafes in the area to take their place.

Debit card surcharge. I don't mind paying a small surcharge when paying by credit card but object to a 10% surcharge when using a debit card.

Food was very average and very expensive.

The service was below what I would expect. We sat down and were given menus but we're not told that orders were not taken at our table. So we sat there for 15 minutes before we had to ask a staff member of we could order, only to be told to order inside the cafe.

We won't be going back.
David
I have come here a few times, used to be good, but lately it has been slacking... The tables are always dirty, have to ask staff to remove dirty dishes and to wipe the table down... The staff talk a lot and I can hear them talking from out side... Not very professional.... The coffee is disgusting... I don't know if you"ve changed your coffee or new staff.... The food is slacking... Not as big portions as their used to be. Staff are rude and not very helpful..
Nikit369
Can't say enough good things about you!. I have been a regular for over two years and find the owners and staff to be excellent. Lap rugs in winter, recognition of regulars and conversation. Piping hot coffee, great food. Especially the Brekky on the Run Turkish roll.
My favourite way to start the day.
The staff are also wonderful to the aged residents from the Lodge across the road and treat them with care and respect.
There is nothing I would not recommend about the Cafe. Keep up the great work and thanks for introducing me to Caramel Lattes.
You guys Rock!
Blessed Be to you all.
)0(

I've been going to this cafe quite regularly for almost a year now and I have to say I have never been disappointed. The service and staff are always polite and really know their stuff. The quality of the service did drop however for a little while there but there was a change of staff and the new girls are so much better. The food is always excellent and the coffee is the best I have ever had. I took my girlfriend and our siblings there for lunch and they were all very happy with the whole thing. The owners are so friendly and very happy to stop and have a chat. Even their baby has come out and said hello to me. The place has a wonderful cosy atmosphere and they even offer blankets in the winter. All in all an awesome place to meet friends, grab a quick breakfast or a coffee on your lunch break. 10/10

You Guys are AWESOME!!. Being a very frequent diner at Brown Sugar my Husband & I have always found the guys there to be funny, very polite & competent. Loz, Pete & the Girls have NEVER ever been anything else. Yes occasionally VERY occasionally there have been dishes left on tables BUT 99.9% of the time this has happened when the crew has been slammed - run off their feet! And besides just move to dishes to another spare table - not that hard - we do it so why cant you?. If you want a 5 star sit-down table service go to a 5 star Restaurant. On the note of the Bad Reviews which I have read a LOT of them sound like *Sour Grapes* -- meaning -- Werent you, *The highly criticizing Reviewers let go* from the Cafe - just recently? I think thats probably enough said on that topic Don't you Girls? Moving On...... As their name states - Brown Sugar CAFE & Bar - is a place to meet for coffee, cake & a chat OR to have a beautiful well presented main meal with friends or even a romantic get-together *wink* ... Well Done Guys - 10/10 from US.....
Deb & Kim Mollenhagen

Agree with the posts down below! Very unorganised, no body seems to know who is in charge. Coffee taste horrible, the food is average, very expensive. The tables are never cleared or clean! This cafe is going down and I wouldn't recommend to anyone... Just plain horrible

No good. A very miss managed cafe! The girls were left in the lurch by there boss, no one new how to make coffee which is no fault of the girls as the managers need to train there staff.

Agree with the review mentioning the dirty dishes on the tables. Same on my visit and doesn't give good impression. $4.10 for a cafe latte. It seemed disorganised with no one in charge. Try somewhere else.

Mixed thoughts. Has amazing mango smooties and a couple good meals but the bread tastes like its from the grocery store, the coffee tastes like an ashtray and when I told them my coffee was cold they put it in the microwave!!! makes me wonder if they even clean their machine or have trained baristas. their staff need a good lesson in customer service! the cutlery and glass I got were not properly cleaned, its a shame this cafe has so much potential!

Changed But Still Great.... Have visited four times now and ordered either hump day with extras or morning glory with chipolatas which I found to be a great flavour combination. I have tried a few different drinks. I found the food to be delicious and extremely filling. I would say the service was good, other than my most recent visits. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as great as when the owner is on duty, as with my first two visits. My payed for add ons were forgotten twice and I found the portion sizes had changed on both mine and my partners meals. Things weren't served the same way and the bread was much thinner. I must say though that the girls who served us did get me the add ons that were missing without any fuss, which was nice, both times. Am wondering if anyone else has noticed any slight changes? I would still definitely recommend the cafe as it is a great local business with such a wide and interesting menu that I think is hard to find for breakfast in the Redlands. The taste is on point! Well Done Brown Sugar.

I went down to Brown Sugar today, it was the first time I had been there - I just had to try with all the fantastic reviews! I have to say I was not disappointed at all! I had the delicious pancakes that were served with fresh berrys, ice cream and cream - yummy! And my friends were not disappointed with their delicious french toast!

The staff were all very friendly,With generous portion sizes! Will definitely come again soon!

Great Service. Have been going to Brown Sugar now for a couple of months on a regular basis and have never received bad service. There food is fantastic, they do their breakfast menu from 7am to 2pm :D Weekends are very busy but if you have good company its worth the wait, i love the pancakes, and my partner loves his Tradies Special.

Homely. We love Brown Sugar because it tastes like home! Fluffy pancakes, well cooked eggs - homely taste and feel.

Will not be back. Today was the second time we have visited the cafe, the first time had to advise the young boy not to put his fingers on the part of the cutlery that goes in our mouth.
second visit cutlery that was brought to the table was dirty, had egg on the fork. asked if iced coffee was made with real coffee or syrup, was told real coffee, but when it arriived it has vanilla syrup in the bottom, took it back was told i did not ask to have no syrup, hello, was not even offered another. i ordered quiche and salad, worst quiche i have had, no taste and the pastry was so tough could not cut it with a knife. we wll not be returning.

Nice suburban cafe. Had the French toast - pretty good.
Didn't have a milkshake - but saw they weren't in the big metal cups which is a shame.

Had a pleasant breakfast. Good coffee, good food for the price. Pancakes are a treat.

Off to a bad start. Service was discussing the waitress had a cats bum face on. Coffee was bland and watery. Food was great but was turned off by the 6 tables that hadn't been cleared...

Wont be going back. Cafe was busy which i THOUGHT was a good sign. It wasnt. Waited forever for our coffees and food, no one seemed to know what was going on and it just seemed like a big mess, lots of staff but still dirty tables and dishes. Wont be going back

Been here many times and have quite enjoyed myself. Do not, I repeat DO NOT go here on a Tuesday morning. The owners have just had a baby and started a mothers group which is great. Except that the entire place is taken over by prams, babies and mothers sharing their birth stories. That alone I can deal with, but when the mothers who are getting a free coffee get served before me (despite arriving after me) and it takes 45 mins just to get our drinks I start to get a little bit annoyed. As far as I'm concerned paying customers should take priority.

Went to this cafe for breakfast after all my friends seemed to rave about it. There was a 40 minute wait on food. In fairness the food came to our table 40 minutes after ordering on the dot. But come on, who wants to wait that long for their food. It wasn't overly busy. Food was ordinary for the price of it.

We have only lived in Brisbane for a year, we live in the southern suburbs and have really struggled to find good cafes, from all the positive reviews, I was hoping Brown Sugar was the answer we were looking for. Sadley for us it wasnt! Sure the coffee was good, but the hot chocolate looked more like hot milk, and it took about 40 mins for our food to arrive. I had my ole faithful of eggs bennie, the eggs were way over cooked, resembling hard boiled eggs more than poached eggs. Apart from the eggs the rest of it was ok. Hubbys big breakfast looked a bit lack luster, but he said it was ok. So our search continues for a good cafe for weekend brunch!

We love Brown Sugar and it has quickly become our one and only stop for all our breakfast or lunch outings! We happily meet family and friends there as the menu has so many options that everyone can always find something they like! The cafe has such a warm and friendly vibe which makes you feel welcome from the moment you set foot in the door. And if the atmosphere is not warm enough for you, they even offer you a little blanket to make you cosy! Highly recommend you stop by if you haven't had the delight of dining there before, and if you don't have time to sit and eat...their take away coffees and meals are simply divine...and quick! It is undoubtedly a little slice of heaven in Victoria Point for me!

Celebrations large groups. Brown Sugar has all the buzz of an inner city cafe! Conveniently located in Victoria Point for the Redlands 'cafe society'. Although the food was excellent and well priced, the 50 minutes to hour long wait for food was a bit of a drag.

My son didn't receive his order at all! We were a large group of 12 and so I wouldn't recommend a group booking, at least for breakfast on a Sunday morning. There are a lot of very young staff, however there seemed to be a lack of experience and communication.

Brown Sugar did refund my son his money and gave him a couple of cake and coffee vouchers - he filled up on 3 drinks during the wait. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their generous and delicious servings.

I would like to try a table for 2 for breakfast and maybe a meal with a glass of wine at another time.

Don't overlook Brown Sugar we should encourage some sophisticated and original dining in the Redland City Area. A couple of tweaks with perhaps more experienced staff will do the trick.

J R

Very disappointing!!. Drove almost an hour from the Gold Coast to try this place after reading all the great reviews. Ordered 2 flat whites, one with soy milk, which came out separately a short time later. Waitress said they were both flat whites so I asked which one was the soy, she didn't know but guessed and pointed to my partners cup.....the wrong one.
We ordered the omelette & the healthy start breakfast. We waited...and waited...and waited. People who had arrived a good 10-15 minutes after us had had their breakfasts & left!
I went in and asked what was happening and was told the brekkies were just coming....almost 10 minutes later (45 in total) the food finally arrived at the table.
The omelette was very soggy and the healthy breakfast came with a burst poached egg! I was asked if I wanted another egg but I pointed out that I'd already waited long enough and did not want to wait any longer. The eggs came out of an egg poaching pan, a first for me and not what I expected. The toast tasted like cheap white supermarket bread and was already buttered or margarined...not very healthy! Would have preferred unbuttered and nice crusty sourdough or ciabatta like every other breakfast had!
The cafe wasn't busy, there were plenty of staff, yet tables were left uncleared.
We were given 2x$5 gift vouchers as an apology but won't be back...cost us more in fuel!!

Worth trying!. I went there once and it was really great! Apart from waiting about half an hour for meals and coffee, it was well worth the wait.
