Had the crab omelette and green bowl. Asian style of food and very good portions. Coffee was great and well made too.

This place needs no introduction as it’s been a mainstay of the North Shore foodie scene for quite a number of years. It does a roaring trade - in normal times - with their back decking always packed on weekends for brunch. Now it’s a bit quieter but it also creates a real opportunity for those who always wanted to try their food. We dropped by for some much needed take away.
Thie Butcher's Block would have to be one of the best eateries I have been to in a long time. Outstanding!!! We arrived for lunch and the service was excellent, the food was faultless. This is a must try! we waited a little while for our coffee and the Manager came to see us immediately and sincerely apologised. We ordered two falafel burgers as one member of the family is a strict vegetarian. The burgers we thick and juicy and served on a beautiful wholemeal bun, DELICIOUS. The calamari had a light tasty coating and the eggs benedict was served on thick wholemeal toast. I will defiantly be bringing the family and my friends to this place. WELL DONE.
Flat White was merely fair, Brunch sets are fabulous especially the vegetarian options And its homemade Muffins. The Owner or Manager was friendly to ask feedback and recommendations. Due to busy shifts on Weekends, there’s no latte art on top of your Flat white. But it’s still a good one to go.
The duck parfait was the best out of all the dishes we tried for the night. I like the texture of the really chunky chips as well (personal preference). The mains did not wow us, but happy enough to have these in a local restaurant. Definitely would like to try more items if live nearby.
The place & space is lovely, the service is relatively friendly & efficient, so I can see why it has such good reviews. The food is a step behind though. My crab omelette was little average & pricey at $24. The omelette was massive, but was mostly just eggs, it desperately needs a sauce or truffle oil to give it a kick, really didn't notice the chilli masala that's supposed to be inside. The side greens were very refreshing to palette more enjoyable then the omelette itself.
Thank you for the friendly and professional service. The food was delicious and will look forwards to returning back to try more of their new menu. Both dishes executed fresh ingredients and everything tasted well together.
Great place! Pretty snazzy. The layout of the place is rustic/industrial, the waiters & waitresses are professional and always very attractive. Coffee there has always been great - respect to the baristas.
In the north shore suburb of Wahroonga The Butcher’s Block is a cafe that’s serving the community an impressive breakfast and lunch six days a week. Formerly a butcher’s shop for more than 70 years, its customers are now getting their brekkie and lunch fix. Plenty of packing nearby, backing onto a carpark. This restaurant is really long, so plenty of tables, also the staff are super attentive.
The Butcher’s Block is a cosy cafe situated near the train station in Wahroonga, a stone’s throw away from where I used to go to high school. I have since been back here a couple of times to catch up with friends and will share my experience in this post. On the first occasion, we ordered a few dishes to share. The first dish was the chicken burger with chicken breast, avocado, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and a side of chips. This was a delicious burger, I really enjoyed how tender and well marinated the chicken was and the avocado and mayo were both nice and creamy. We also ordered the fish and chips with a side of salad, this was also tasty, the fish was nicely beer battered and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Finally, we ordered a freshly baked meat pie from the bakery and I could taste the real mince meat in it, not just god knows what you eat from frozen pies at take away shops.

Rating updated from 3.5/5 to 4/5 after more visits. So hard to fault these guys. Keep up the good work👍🏼
Rare to see a cafe which cuts the fine line between hip n trad, value n portion size, ambience n loc, pretentious n down to earth, formal/stiff n over friendly, cost n quality ingredients.
Green bowl (4/5) is usually not my 1st choice. As implied, kale broccolini asparagus avocado n brown rice topped w a poached egg sound as exciting as a missionary position, am so glad i was proven as wrong as someone who denounced celibacy n rediscovered the simple pleasures in life (vanilla included). It taught me to not judge a menu by its description. The chorizo as an extra order was a welcome addition.
Crab omelette 3/5, not sure if this is a popular item here. Spanner crabs though less expensive than other crustacean, should be ‘odourless’. Sweet n slightly firm. Why i question if this is a popular item here is bec of the freshness of the crab meat. That said, everything else about this dish was fine incl the sourdough bread, salsa n the omelette itself.
Doub macc, my groan re most brekky cafes visited is luke warm macc. That despite prior requests to have it HOT. At times, i would simply ask for a paper cup even when eating in. Simply, attention to detail and communication within the cafe staffs would solve this problem. No, i aint even talking about the brew. Just the temperature. So happy when my coffee was served in a proper cup n had the right temp 😃.
You have to try the quinoa salad with lamb rump. Full of flavor and snap peas. It tastes like spring on a plate and I will definitely be back to order another.
Great location for a relaxing breakfast.
Coffee is excellent, food divine and the service very good. I would recommend the Butchers Block to anyone.
Delicious food! We had a double burger, a side of mixed chips and a broccolini salad. Love the atmosphere. Would definitely come here often if I did my live in Melbourne.
Busy place with great alfresco seating. Food is also very good and recommend the butchers breakfast. Filling and hearty breakfast. Great that it has expanded so there's more space!
The best cafe in Wahroonga. Coffee was good. Service was great. Amazing food - always in love with their baked eggs. They are always busy which means they are doing great. I loved the dining area at the back, really cute. Definitely will go back.. maybe today 😙

The place was very busy, but the service was great despite this and we were only standing a minute before we got put in the wait list for a table, which didn't take very long either. Staff were lovely. The smoothies are fantastic
Their food was exceptional and staffs were really nice. It is a very popular cafe located on the north shore of Sydney, therefore if you wanna guarantee yourself a spot there, I suggest you to get in there early or make a reservation. I had to wait 30-45 minutes when I went there the first time, but trust me, it was totally worth it!
Loved the breakfast . Loved the coffee.. will definitely come again.. just the kind of thing I was look for on a winters morning.. love the take on egg and bacon
Went for Sunday lunch and was pretty impressed by the vibe. Only a short wait for a sunday afternoon. Prompt and friendly service. Ordered Mushroom on Pita and was very satisfied with the serving and the mushroom. It was juicy and flavourful. Might return for breakfast.
I love this place, it's my favourite cafe and I always recommend this place to all my friends. I wish they expanded the menu because there's not much to choose from
Great cafe and always busy. Food is of good quality and vibes add to the experience. I found it to be on the pricier side. We asked for a jug of water for the table and the waitress gave us a bottle of Antipodes water that cost something like $7.. not sure if it was a mix up or money making scheme. I would return though.
We'd heard about this place and been meaning to visit for a while. And we weren't disappointed.
It's so refreshing to see a well run establishment on the Upper North Shore offering quality food. From the moment we entered we were greeted warmly and the service was excellent but not too over bearing.
For entrees we had the zucchini flowers, quail and seared scallops. All of which beautifully presented and tasted amazing.
For mains we had the duck breast and the gnocchi. The duck breast was cooked to perfection and the gnocchi was soft, pillowy and flavoursome.
We had the triple cooked chips with curry salt as a side. Tasty, though perhaps would have expected them to be slightly more crunchy - given they were triple cooked.
No room for dessert, but there's always next time!
Thanks to the staff at The Butchers Block for a lovely evening.
I always enjoy going to Butcher's Block. Close to station, foods are always good, coffee is good. Best in Wahroonga for sure..
Very busy so try to avoid the rush hour.
Lovely brekkie place. Morning fresh faces, local kids (assumingly) working early shifts serving without real waitress experience, but who would expect anything else from little cafes like this. But experience was fixed with happiness and friendly appearance:)
Place looks really good. Really warm feeling when there:) Food good, big portions. Good coffee. A bit pricey?
Came in on a sunny day for lunch, it was packed and very busy. We were seated straight away on a shared bench and left to figure out what we would get. I opted for the Chicken Pita and a peanut butter shake .My partner, the Pulled pork burger and a Pear and cinnamon smoothie. Very filling meals(sweet potato fries on the side, Yum!)good feedback on the smoothie and the Peanut butter shake was a MONSTER...thick, rich and nutty.

Such a spontaneous trip, didn't expect we ended up here, so north, but that's really a nice cafe. A long queue outside, 10mins waiting, not too bad. Very friendly staff, I like my salmon and pork belly, very crisp, a bit expensive I think
Great cafe/brunch place. Relaxed feel with music playing but not too loud to disrupt conversations. Service was friendly too.
Only negatives were the food took a little while to come out and the price is moderate (expect $20 for burgers and $25+ for mains).
Foodwise - the crispy pork belly was done superbly with the crackling just right (not too hard but still crunchy). Sweet potatoes were also perfectly crunchy on the outside sweet snd soft on the inside. The salmon salad was probably only average though.
Overall, really chill cafe/brunch spot next to the station.
Somehow I've always ended up here on a Sunday when this place is closed.
However, today I find myself here on a Wednesday morning at 10am and the place is buzzing. It's filled with a mix of suburbanites - the early retired stockbroker who has just come back from the beach (yes I can still smell the saltwater off you), the pre-schooler and his mom, the sweet 70 year old retiree couples, the moms and their kids from the local private school on early holidays, uni students still living at home and having breakie with mom, the real estate agents having their pick-me-up, the tax accountant and his client - and me ... It's that kind of crowd, with the soundtrack of Little Mix or the next teeny booper on the sound system. The queues overflow onto the streets (it's a Wednesday morning peeps!). I conclude that this must be a pretty good breakie place ... Expectations are high.
I order a long black - single origin beans from Peru I am told. It's decent. The eggs Benedict arrive. First bite - it's ok, fresh bacon and decent hollandaise sauce. Second bite - the egg yolk runs through the hollandaise sauce and the spinach and bacon. Heavenly!
I can understand the crowds, it's probably one of the few decent places around here. Recommended as a possible option but only if you are in this neck of the woods, but bring your wallet with you. Ouch - it hurts.
I've been regularly coming here with friends over the past year. Ever since it's opened, it's always been constantly busy, and there's no wonder as to why. The place has great service and amazing food! It's a bit on the pricey side when considering the normal price of cafe food, but the service is super polite and efficient, especially considering the place is ALWAYS full. And the food is exceptional so there's nothing I can complain about! You need to try the chicken burgers! Oh and their sweet potato chips - I'm in love.
I thoroughly enjoyed a long black and the quinoa salad. The coffee was really good, and the salad was delightfully fresh and light. It was pretty noisy inside, but not overwhelming enough to be unproductive (I was working on my own). Staff were friendly and helpful.
Ordered the one pan which was good, but not amazing, and the chai latte I ordered was great. Good, attentive service, and the food arrived quite promptly.
Quick and lovely service. Very cozy setting. Quite busy as it was the weekend. The coffee was sublime. Thoroughly enjoyed the chicken pita. Very fresh and lively. Would definitely love to pop by to try the breakfast menu as well.
Great food, and overall a very lovely cafe. The food is a little more on the pricier side for a cafe, however both the risotto and fisherman's pie were incredibly tasty and the portion sizes were definitely generous. We were also very happy with the honey soy iced chais - flavourful and a generous serve. Will be back for more very soon!
Great coffee, food, service, and atmosphere. Reminds me a little of Melbourne. Prices are a little in the steep side but I guess that's expected considering the area it's in. Must try the snickers shake- amazing.

Beautiful setup with warm wonderful customer service with good coffee to boot
Food was delightful. Prices could've been slightly more reasonable but not a deal breaker
We returned to have breakfast. Ricotta hotcakes were great. Nice combo with orange segments and bluberries. 2 breakfasts and 2 English Breakfast teas cost $55.
Consistently excellent! We have been here a couple of times and will keep returning. Excellent service, lovely space and atmosphere, great food and great coffee.
The poached pear bircher muesli is delicious, as well as healthy. Couple with a pear and cinnamon smoothie which is refreshing for brunch on a scorching summers day - sitting out the back in the lovely garden - perfect.
Organic pesto eggs - perfect, but we could do with more of the crispy oyster mushrooms please!
Ricotta hotcakes - Ricotta inside the hotcakes?! Deliciously indulgent and perfectly executed.
One of my fav cafes in Sydney. Used to go every Saturday when I lived closer.
If you're a local, you probably already know how good it is. If you're not, totally worth the trip from where ever you are in Sydney.
Stunning breakfast location, today we had butter poached lobster with crustacean hollandaise, creamed asparagus and poached eggs, teamed with very good coffee...omg fantastic!
I'm an irregular at butchers block even though I'm a local.
Stopped by yday for a takeaway drink with a friend and my dog. Whilst waiting outside for the drinks, the barista took initiative and offered me a water for my dog because it was so hot. I was taken aback and very impressed with the service. Thank you! :)
The staff here are so wonderful! Although from the front it looks small, it has a beautiful area out the back. The coffee is great here and the food is amazing as well. Will definitely be coming back.
The not so hidden gem of Wahroonga, this place is a perfect example of a place doing everything right. The place looks beautifully designed. The menu is also a standout. Cannot wait to come back and try everything on the menu.
Went for breakfast and ordered the Bircher muesli, busy morning but service was prompt. The food was very enjoyable and looked fantastic. Will definitely be coming again!
Packed on Saturday morning, but still only a few minutes wait for my wife, toddler and I to be seated. Could have eaten everything on the menu, so the worst part was having to choose just one. Definitely be back when we're in the area.
The Snickers thick shake is so unbelievably thick you'd think it had been made in a cement mixer. It's to die for, and a meal in itself. The food is also really tasty. The lamb plate was moist and tasty, complemented by lemony yoghurt and the poached eggs. The hot cakes are also a must.
We arrived at around 12pm, and got a seat out at the back without waiting. We came out at around 1.30ish, and there were heaps of people waiting, but mainly families waiting for the big tables since it was school holidays. Entrance looks small. It's actually a narrow but long cafe and quite a lot of seating. The tables aren't too squished together. They actually grow some chillies, some veges and fruits around their garden wall.
Went here for brunch on the weekend. Was very busy and had to wait about 10 minutes for a table (happy to wait - was definitely worth it!). I ordered the beetroot salad with goats cheese, poached egg, sourdough and walnuts. It was delicious! Definitely an enjoyable change from the usual breakfast fare. Coffee was quite weak and bit too milky for my liking. Great setup!
The malt shake is definitely worth a try! We had the vanilla one and it was the best we've ever had by far. Nice service, cosy atmosphere, decent portion and nice food. Will come back for sure
Consistently good. Tasty and delicious breakfast options. Decent portions. Good coffee. Bruschetta is my fav. breakfast dish but order with second poached egg

The Butcher’s Block…hmm, what comes to mind when I think of this café? Absolutely delicious meals, friendly service, a super trendy atmosphere, and always, always a line to get a table! When visiting the Butchers Block last weekend, all of the above was true. I headed to the café at 9am with my brother Nick (a rising football superstar visiting from boarding school in England), Lucy and of course, my William. There was already a small crowd of people waiting to be seated outside so we put our table request in and joined the line. Within 10 minutes we were called and led inside the bustling café.
#kningjaeats the most delicious and chillax lunch with a side of extremely friendly service. I absolutely love the vibes of this place and the great food they have on offer. I've been back a couple of times and have never been disappointed. Good food, good value, great service - all ingredients for an enjoyable dining experience.
The Butcher's Block opened earlier this year in the suburb of Wahroonga. Ever since it opened there has been a bit of buzz about this very popular cafe and I have had it at the back of my mind to check it out. When my friends from Canberra told me of their impending weekend in Sydney I suggested we meet up for brekkie. Having not hung out at Wahroonga before but knowing how busy the village gets, the roads were packed with cars and finding a parking spot can be challenging at peak hours. The cafe is located in a location which was previously a butcher's shop, hence the very apt name. You can still see remnants of the butcher artefacts hanging in the cafe and the rugged walls are part of the original architecture ( I assume). This place is packing it in and I loved the vibe! It was family friendly, yet hip! We decided to sit outside which was located at the rear of the cafe and there were lovely herb beds surrounding the tables. It felt a little like a green house. There was even a chil
Probably the most expensive cafe in Wahroonga …but why still so popular? They were probably the first cafe that hipped up Wahroonga…Wahroonga was always an awesome place for local cafes, but after The Butcher’s Block opened, all the other cafes started improving their menus and decor… You most likely have to wait for a table on the weekends, but worth the wait! They use fresh ingredients and good proportions… https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Butchers-Block/242205025906381
Have visited BB twice now and both times had a vey pleasant experience. Being vegan eating out (especially on the North Shore) can be tricky so I couldn't be happier when our waiter Rocco informed me they'd be more than happy to construct a custom vegan dish for me. My meal was fresh & delicious and so was my husband's dish. Both times we were served by Rocco who is an absolute pleasure to deal with and goes above and beyond for us. My husband is a huge coffee lover and BB's coffee gets his tick of approval. Really looking forward to the dinner section opening up in the coming months.
Really good food. The Butcher's block doesn't mess up the simple stuff.
My order of a wild mushroom, feta and avocado sandwich toasted ($10) is so flavourful, balanced, and tasty that my friend who tries it immediately orders one for herself! My other friend who had ordered the brioche french toast with roasted pistachios, nutella and caramelised bananas was a little disappointed with the deviation from traditional french toast style (it didn't appear to have been soaked in egg, just brioche toasted). I quite liked it and my friend compared it appropriately to a doughnut.
We all ordered thickshakes: a choc malt, snickers and mine, a vanilla with no malt ($7). They were all amazing- thick, flavourful and made of quality ingredients.
Service was kind and we all agreed we can't wait to return for the lunch menu!
Update: We returned for lunch and were very thankful we did!
I ordered the mushroom risotto (forgot the price, but I think it was around $20) and the vanilla thickshake again (couldn't resist) and the drink was just as lovely as last time, while the main was lovely also. The rice was not too mushy and thick, and the mushrooms were well done. My one critique would be the small amount of pecorino shavings on top- I felt the dish really needed the extra flavour the cheese provided, and had to compensate for the lack by filching my friend's aioli (she doesn't like aioli much for some reason although I love it and Butchers do it well). Overall I was thoroughly satisfied.
My mates ordered the fish and chips and the meatballs. Both were thoroughly enjoyed- the chips were fat and crunchy while the pasta was cooked in a deliciously fresh thick tomato sauce.
Service was polite and attentive, and the ambience as always a winner.
We will return- it's only a matter of time(:
Enjoyable brekkie but small portion sizes. Enjoyed brekkie this morning; interesting selection but was surprised with the '$20 eggs/salmon' dish (can't remember the name) had no toast with it and was on the small size. The guys were still hungry and extra toast was needed to fill in the holes. Staff were friendly and service very good.
Thumbs up for everything but pre-warning do not order hot water. I went here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the chic interior and yummy food.
However, I was slightly disappointed when I found out that I was charged $2 for a cup of hot water - came up as mug H2o on my bill. I work at a restaurant as well and charging customers for water seems ridiculous, especially since I ordered another drink as well. However, the food was nice, decor/ambience amazing and service quite prompt so will eventually be back despite it being 30 mins away from home.
Desperately needed this in the upper Morth Shore. We could support another dozen with all the wealthy mothers looking for a ladies lunch. The good is good and the atmosphere is great, but I have been told the women all go there for the waiters - proof there is a need!
A great informal cafe. Great decor - very industrial yet friendly feel. Seats are a bit uncomfortable. Always great food and fast service. There is an outside area at the back which is great in warmer weather. Really a good place for a coffee or for breakfast or lunch.
If you can get in here it's worth going! Good coffee
Great food! Unfortunately despite the number of staff they have on service can be pretty average, despite all their good looks!
Awesome concept, very stylish and shabby warehouse looking place.
Came in only for a coffee and a very delicious muffin! Hubby had a snickers shake which tasted exactly as the name sake.
Staff was exceptional. Will return for a breakfast or lunch one day soon :)
Updated: 3.5
Food was above average overall (3.5). Starter was interesting, mains were ok (steak was average), dessert was nice.
One staff member was quite abrupt and rushed us a few times (between receiving the menu and being asked for our orders we were given perhaps two minutes) while forgetting to serve the other table she was looking after. Another staff member was absolutely delightful: friendly, warm and accommodating.
Simple interiors, clean and pleasant.
Overall quite nice but on the pricey side. Personally would recommend brunch over dinner.
We went here for my birthday lunch with my family, my Mum is in a wheel chair and the restaurant is accessible and the staff were very accommodating. The reason for the 4* not 5* is that the service was pretty poor. We had to keep asking the staff for water, the served my niece a full cream milkshake instead of a lactose free milkshake. Other than this the food was really good and we enjoyed our lunch! Good options for df and gf people and I also don't eat red meat. Would eat here again
Enjoyed our time at Butchers block. We had the rib platter and the marinades were quite different and tasty. Calamari seemed to be a popular option with many patrons opting for it.
Seating is a bit congested and the lady who waited on us (Pooja) could have been more accommodating.
Will be back to try the breakfast menu
Food is amazing! Coffee is really good and a must try! The almond croissant is very tasty! Pancakes and corn critters are also good!
Had a late lunch at butchers block. We had the beef burger, the katsu bowl and the falafel bowl. They all tasted fine but the price does not match the potions given.
This place was awesome, the Ribs were super tender n tasty the sides were all perfect matches
Delicious cocktails and steaks cooked perfectly! Such a nice local place for date night.
My first visit due to a staff farewell function. We were allocated a private venue in the alfresco area with 25 attendees. Catherine was our host for the entire evening. The service was very friendly and attentive, the food was immaculate and very generous in portion. My colleagues are still raving on about how much they enjoyed the place and already planning a return visit. A must try if you're ever in the area.
