Review Lotus Inn Restaurant - Wahroonga

Long-time institution on the upper north shore that I think has been in existence longer than I’ve been alive. Always popular for both dine-in and takeaway meals, Lotus Inn offers traditional (Australian) style Chinese cuisine that is cooked to perfection. Serving sizes are more than ample and after dining here I guarantee you’ll be back. Does get busy and can be noisy but that’s part of the experience. Recommended.

Almost didn't go in as the place looks like so many other Chinese restaurants in suburban Australia. Glad we did. The eggplant with tofu in Szechuan sauce was worth the visit alone. My wife's a vegetarian and she said it was one of the best eggplant dishes she's ever had. My Kung pow prawns were very good but not spicy and the veggie fried rice was really tasty. Super friendly service and the feel of a restaurant that's been making good food for a long time. We'll be back.

Absolutely divine, this hidden gem surprised me! The food was brought out so quickly and tasted incredible. The staff were super helpful and kind. Will definitely be coming again <3

Decent selection but I didn't find the food to be terribly great.

I went to a family dinner to the lotus inn last night. The food was good! However, I’ve woken up at 3:00am to horrible food poisoning worse than I’ve ever experienced.

Friendly staff. Juicy big prawns but tasteless. Mongolian Lamb tender and delicious. Pork in plum sauce very good. Fried rice very plain. Our dinner had ups and downs. 94year old grandmother thought it was fabulous as it brought back so many happy memories.

My family and I were eager to try this Chinese restaurant after hearing good reports. Upon arrival for our reservation we were left waiting in the front doorway for them to make up a table - obviously a very busy night.
We were left waiting an extraordinary amount of time for drinks and to order. Not a good start.
Entrees started out ok, with some fantastic spring rolls and some very bland, tasteless dim sims.
Mains included a fantastic Mongolian lamb an average sizzling fillet steak and plum chicken. Things might have been ok to that point... but .... for our table of 5, we were then served 2 servings of burnt fried rice. I’ve never had fried rice be so overcooked it stuck to my teeth.
The crowning achievement however was the kung po king prawns. Wow! They tasted like prawns served in a bowl of vinegar. The waitstaff profusely apologised and handled the situation well, but upon sorting the bill, the manager was adamant ‘that’s how Kung Po’ should taste. If that’s the case, I strongly advise anyone to stay well clear of this place. Woeful service and below average food. 1.5/5

I have dinner with my family tonight. I order the soy crispy chicken which is the best I have in such a long time. The sweet and sour pork was crispy, succulent and fried rice was just so light and yummy. High recommendations

Pricey, but reliable quality (especially the seafood). The flat rice noodles have generous amount of prawns (not the token 2 piddly ones tossed in like 98% of places). Chow mein - the egg noodles have the perfect balance of crispy and soft. Even the sweet sour chicken fritters is very well executed. Worth the price and a must try for the North shore.

This place has been around for decades. That's a pretty good sign that they're doing a few things right. Having eaten here quite a few times over many years the food has always been good. It's fairly typical Chinese - but that's not a bad thing because they do it well. It's a well respected local place for a decent meal.

Reheated food during the week. The food is great when its fresh. Unfortunately during the week I'm regularly eating reheated food...this is especially obvious with the rice. I have been a regular customer for 2 plus years. My issue with the quality of the food has been raised with the owners on several occasions. This is met with a subtle raise of the shoulders. $25-30 for one dish and rice makes them the most expensive in the suburb by at least 15%. Nearby Turramurra or Hornsby would be a better investment of anyone's money.

I agree a bit pricey, but would be the best Chinese on the North Shore by far. It's quality fresh food.
