Review Rattlers Hotel - Wallan

Kevin Fleurie
Great place to eat. Traditional pub fare. Reasonably priced. Just a short distance from the main strip in Wallan.. but worth it! Not much from the outside.. just never judge a book from its cover!

Chef did her best cooking alone for a large group, pasta dishes came out after everyone had finished. 4 menus only for the whole bistro and having to share one among 12 people was frustrating. Food was good

Small group of 7 people, all ordered food on arrival before the couple of other patrons on a very quiet saturday night. Food arrived very slowly, 1 of us waited 1hr 15 mins for a fishermans basket. Service all round friendly but very slow... would hate to see this on a busy night.

Brilliant food. We got off the freeway to find this place so we could avoid Maccas and get a decent meal. A little out of the way, but worth it! Only added a few minutes to the drive. Great pub food.

I was very disappointed, there was 12 of us the time it took to get our meals was rediculous. There was only 4 other people in the hotel. When we finally got our food it was terrible 4 people ordered flathead tails, i ordered fish and chips when they came out they looked like sausages and when the were put on the table they were overcooked and just crumbled the batter was so thick and was full of oil, the fish was just a skinny strip in the middle. My fish and chips were the same i dont know what it was. But i do know that i just made it to the loo when i got home and wasnt well for the rest of the day.

After learning Sam was back in the kitchen, we headed up for lunch.. We weren't disappointed, the food was as good as ever! Anybody would enjoy the chinese meals! More community support for this place would be awesome indeed! Could someone please tell the rider of the black horse to wear some reflectors or light clothing... as we nearly hit him on the road out!! We just didn't see him till we were nearly on him! Cheers Kerry

Had a gr8 meal here, "bangers n mash" good old pub meal, huge and delicious 😋 Very happy and helpful staff, had live music playing, young women on a guitar 🎸. She was awesome. Will visit here again soon..... ☺

Hate leaving bad review but i believe it is necessary if a business wants to improve. POSITIVES: food arrived looking fresh and cooked really well.presentation was rustic and serving was generous.menu is small but understandable but for a small size bistro.staff is pretty chatty and friendly.little corner for kids with books and toys.and i love the 360 degrees viewing fireplace.really makes a dull and bland bistro looking cosy and homely. NEGATIVES:service service service!ive read many reviews about the slow service here but i decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and took my family for dinner.and i hate to admit it but the service was painstakingly slow.only one lady behind the bar taking orders AND making drinks AND seating people AND giving menus AND handling payments! At one stage she was running around from behind the bar to the service area.Really is NOT a good look.yes i know they are not Hogan's Hotel but still hire an extra staff for heaven sake. One lane for ordering food one lane for drinks.Customers were lining up and the line was as long as a Centrelink line.Kitchen was ringing because food was ready and not getting picked up.They really have a great potential to be great.Location is perfect just across the road from the station. And some nights they have live music. But with Hogan's hotel being THE number one dining destination in Wallan it will be very hard for Rattlers to even get customers to return if they dont fix their staffing debacle. And bar lady Pinot Gris is spelled pee noh gree NOT pa no gris!
