This was the best Indian restaurant I have visited after moving here in Melbourne 😊 My husband kept talking high about this restaurant & he was absolutely right in all that he said. The food spread was delicious, the quality was top notch, the staff were very helpful & approachable. This experience was worth the money we paid.
Looking forward to try their breakfast buffet as well :)
We went here for a good vegetarian meal and weren't disappointed. We ordered the paper roast masala dosa and onion rava dosa.
Taste : Very delicious and I loved all the sauces, very good value for money with Zomato gold.
Service was great, the wait staff were very attentive and knew we didn't understand the menu so helped explain what would suit. Great recommendations. One improvement would be to cater the menu with a description of what the meal might be as we had to google it all 😂
I will be back for another great vegetarian meal! I loved how this Indian food experience was a bit different to the usual curries I see at other resturants.
Visited here on the weekend of AFL finals. Pretty decent service. Did not have to wait too long to be served. Ordered Idli, Medu Vada, Pongal, Chana Bhattura, Pander Butter Masala Dosa. All the dishes ordered were good.
My wife requested for Jain food so they advised Medu Vada and Pongal and served it with Jain Rasam instead of Sambhar. It was pretty good as well.
The Madras Coffee was pretty good. Ordered another after completing one.
Dosa was fresh, tasty, sambar one of the best that I have had at a restaurant, all three chutneys were made to perfection. Yes, it's a bit pricey compared to other Indian eateries although I would not mind paying the price, if the quality of food and service remains consistent.
Had a chance to meet the chef, young man Nitin, who is clearly quite efficient in his craft.
Waiting staff was friendly, extremely polite, efficient and obliging !
Madras coffee's taste and serve is not value for money.
I will recommend my family and friends to visit this joint.

The best place to try a south Indian thali meal which has everything that a full balanced meal should have, finish with an order of Kesari Bhaath which is a semolina saffron dessert and a filter Coffee...If that's not your type, then you can order the standard dosa and Idli or Puri Bhaji.. whatever your choice may be, know that the food has an authentic South Indian taste and is simply one of the best Indian meals you could have.

I been to this place couple of times, and it is my go to place when I am craving for a good sambhar. The staff here is so friendly and accommodating :). Once we reached there and the kitchen was about to close, but they still catered us with the same smile and got a complementary idli for my daughter as well.
The restaurant was clean, service was good and staff was very courteous. However, the prices are bit on higher side.
The Dosa, Samba and Coconut Chutney are very good. The Vadas are plain and the samosa are full of masala, which makes them disgusting.
The masala dosa serving was small, there wasn't much aloo inside the dosa, which left me wanting more.
All round the food was good and the restaurant was clean.
Not many places near me do this kind of food, so when I found this place I just had to go. I was not disappointed. The food was delicious and just what I wanted. Not a bad price either
First time here. Was recommended by a friend, thank goodness this is near my place. The dosa in this place are superb! I would come back again for the dosa, although a little bit more overpriced than some places I go to it truly is worth it.
If you are craving for south-Indian food and specially dosa, then Saravana Bhavan is probably one of the better options in Melbourne.
Food is good and consistent with warm & friendly service. Every item is reasonably priced though Dosa’s could be a bit cheaper.
Ample parking available so no hassle at all.
Surely recommended..!!
Bisibele bhaat was delicious but only for those who can handle chilly flavor.
I ordered a thali with South Indian flavors and crispy chappathi.
Dosa and Dosa
Looking for a nice Dosa and quick service then this is the place to go. It is a bit noisy guess that is to be expecpted but far better than the places in dandenong. Will be back when in the area.
Please add more potato filling in the amazingly large crispy dosa . Keeping in mind the awesome sizeof this particular dosa, we run out of the chutneys and potato fillings !
Love your dosas!
Tasty authentic food, good & calm atmosphere, ample car parking space......love to be thr. Will visit more often☺☺
Will definitely recommend this restaurant!
Traditional south indian vegetarian food. Milagaipodi masala dosa to left, main meals were Saravanna special meals with chappathi and poori. Comprised of 7 different vegetable curries, raita, yoghurt, sour milk and sago noodle cardamon desert served with poori or chappathi bread and a bowl of rice in the middle. Great flavours and lots of spice. Big meals. Definitely worth visiting if you haven't experienced south indian cuisine before. Try a mango lassi. There is one on King St in Melbourne too. Restaurant itself needs to be kept cleaner, dead bugs all over the window sills and jugs were a bit grimey. If they can get on top of that I'm sure this restaurant will be around for everyone to enjoy for the long haul.
Visited the place for the first time....The food was so good that we could not move from our seats...The service was so fast and every waitress was smiling ....My kudos the team...
Will recommend to all our friends in Melbourne..
Great Indian restaurant in the area, visit if you want to taste the authentic Indian taste.
Breakfast here is as good as home. Reminded me of the very old restaurant in Delhi.
Great food ... Great surrounding... Great people... Awesome service.... Great location.... Was a great experience.... In short just GREAT.....👌👌
I went with my mum for lunch here a couple of days ago. Our first time here, Fantastic service (with a smile), such delicious food. We really enjoyed the food. Authentic cuisine and generous portions at an affordable price. I was so full after eating there. Will definitely come back again. Thank you to Randy and his friendly staff for making us feel welcome there. 5 stars from me :)
Most dishes are cooked in authentic manner and they have a consistent taste. The service is very courteous and understanding. Sometimes there are delays during peak period. But this is understandable given that the dishes are made from scratch. Recommended for vegetarians:)
Ordered the Paper Roast Masala long dosa and it was unbelievably huge (see photos). Tasted fantastic with the accompanying flavours and potato in the middle. Definitely come here to try and see this dosa at least. Friendly staff and fast service as well.
This restaurant is considered a pinnacle for South Indian cuisine back in India. They have restaurants all over the world. It is a vegetarian restaurant and the food here is divine. Very authentic. It tastes quintessentially South Indian.
It's located in the south eastern suburbs. They are opening up another restaurant in the city.
This place is always crowded and the food takes a while. They are a bit understaffed. It took a while for them take the order and longer for the food to arrive. There were 6 of us in our group and the food was brought out as they were ready. So it was disjointed and we couldn't eat together. It was served hot though. The bill was reasonable for the quality of food. We will going there again!
It's a treasure of taste & flavor. Had been there for Saturday breakfast it was super packed. They have softest idli medu vada and tasty Mysore masala dosa. Don't miss the filter coffee. Amazing service taste & flavor. Definitely recommended.

Best example of Madras (Chennai) cuisine in Melbourne. Crispy dosas, fluffy idlys, soft Puries , great sambhar, chutneys and vada curry. Does not get better than this. Best part is the degree of heat is restrained and spices are perfectly balanced.
We frequent this place soooo often we are nearly part of the furniture and we love it. If you want authentic tasting South Indian cuisine then this is the place to go. My favourite is the channa batura, puris or the classic masala dosa, but there are many options for you to choose. I suggest steering clear from your usual Indian choices and trying out something new... :-)
Our food was perfect! The Paper Dosa was crispy and tasty down to the last bite! We also enjoyed the thali, podi dosa, chilli bhajji, dahi vada and masala tea. I would recommend this place. It's not cheap, but it's certainly yummy, especially if you're missing a taste of home!
Great place to satisfy your hunger for South Indian food . Weekend breakfast buffet is a thing to look out for . Unlimited food at a great price .

I hail from Chennai and have been a fan of Saravana Bhavan since childhood, so to know that a Saravana Bhavan was opened in Melbourne and in a suburb closer to mine was wonderful!! My wife and I frequently dine in at SB preferring special thali meals for lunch and the usuals idli, dosas for dinner. The staff are lovely and very friendly and service is quick.
I recently ordered takeaway catering for my son's 1st Birthday for 50 guests and the service extended has been fantastic. Rohit, the manager, was ever patient and helpful from finalising the menu till the food was delivered. He ensured the food quality was not compromised and checked during the day if the quantity was sufficient.
Overall, A+ rating and service both in dine in and takeaway + catering
Saravana Bhavan - Wantirna, cuisine - South Indian. Most Indians would have heard of Saravana bhavan, they are one of the most successful chains for South Indian food with presence in india, malaysia, Singapore, US, America to name a few countries. There is a reason why they are so popular - their authentic South Indian cuisine. Their dishes remind you of a local joint in india. Most of the dishes they have on their menu can't be found anywhere else in Melbourne - this explains its USP!! It has only recently opened doors in Melbourne and we couldn't wait to indulge. As you can see from the photo we didn't hesitate in placing the order!! All the dishes were good however their southindian thali (platter - 2nd photo on the left) takes the prize!! Dosas are well made and crispy. All condiments are as good as india. It is an only vegetarian restaurant so the choices you have will only make your life harder :). The only downside was that some of their dishes weren't hot enough and we had to send it back, the staff was apologetic and willingly complied. It is no fancy food joint but the food is awesome and that is what counts. If not for the far distance to travel I can easily see us becoming regulars! We probably still will. #rating4.5. @saravanabhavan #vegetarianfoodie #melbourne #foodlover #southindian #dosas #wantirna #saravanabhavan #overeateverytime #vegbourne #thali #vegetarianfood #lovediningout #melbournefoodie #exploringfood
Finally the 51st plan of visiting this place succeeded. This chain has been one of my husband's favourite back in India and he was too eager to visit its Melbourne branch. We had dosas, manchurian and vadas.
Though the food is tasty( mmmm... the smell of ghee from the ghee roast) as many others have commented it burns the pocket.
exceptionally good food. trademark taste. decent service considering the likes of other Indian restaurants around. a bit pricey but what isn't these days?
Great food and excellent service! Hats off to the ambience+cleanliness as well. Overall a much better sarvana bhavan as compared to other locations we have experienced!

Really enjoyed the Saravana Special Thali meal and the hospitality of the staff! Highly recommend to anyone who wants to experience a beautiful vegetarian meal. I wish the toilets and restrooms were a bit more cleaner.

They serve good south indian food. The mini idlis are a must eat and dosas are nice too. The place is good for casual dining.
But yes they are overpriced. The dosa had very little masala inside which is boring for masala lovers.
Best South indian in Eastern suburbs of Melbourne
Delight for vegetarians.... enjoy the Dosas and sambhar , vada and chai......................
We had heard so much about this place before it opened and we're eagerly awaiting for it to open. Although we saw some terrible reviews on Facebook we decided to try it.
The paper dosa was perfectly thin, crispy and delicious. I'd also tried the special with 20 small dishes to try which was just amazing.
Apart from the food being outstanding, the service was super quick with a wait of about several minutes. The price is on the higher end compared to other indian restaurants but definitely worth it.
I wish we lived closer so we could come here every week.
Always love Sarvana, The best South Indian food in the world.this particular outlet always have Indo Chinese, which Make your soul crawl out of you and wants to smack the chef. Guys you guys are great in somethings just stick to that. South indian food is 5, north Indian 2, Indo Chinese -5 and service 3. Will come back for some nice idlis.
Loved this place. Not sure why there are negative reviews . We loved the food . Ordered Gobi 65 and Dosa and uttapam. We ordered Hakka noodles which was not that good but everything else was excellent
Our lunch was absolutely delightful. The food was of the same quality that we have grown accustomed to expect from this chain. We lived in New York and used to visit the one on Lexington Avenue every Sunday. This completely lived up to our expectations. I fail to understand what all the fuss is about and why are there so many negative reviews.
The staff was very attentive and quick on their feet. We ordered medu vada, ghee masala dosa and ghee rava masala dosa. The food was light, not extremely spicy, just the perfect taste.
I only wish they had opened this outlet years ago! We will surely become regulars here.
Good quality food and excellent customer service. Snacks and not that gr8 with the price, but main meals are really really good with good quantity.
Food was good, But too expensive. Good service. The dessert was too, too oily. I would agree that among the other indian restaurants in Melbourne, this place is good.
Being South Indian myself, tasted authentic South Indian food in Melbourne. We had Sarvana Bhavan special meals and Dosa. Finally we were able to taste authentic coconut chutney in Melbourne and also the meal was perfect with mouth watering Rasam and Sambhar. Felt like we were having food at a restaurant back home.
Really good dosa and madras coffee, went for lunch was a little apprehensive considering the reviews but the lunch was awesome 👍👍. It may have taken less than 10 min from when I ordered for my onion masala dosa to arrive and it was lovely to eat.
I asked the staff why were there bad reviews especially when the food is so yum, he replied honestly saying when we opened we did not have the capacity to fulfil all requirements. Don't get that sort of straight forwardness usually.
Prices could be made a little affordable though especially if they have so many other branches across the world.
Not bad. Food is good (we went for lunch and had variations on masala dosa), not too greasy, not too spicy. The ice cream was way overpriced - $5 for one scoop of (average) mango ice cream, and $4 for a small steel tumbler of filter coffee. Nice ambience, casual but not shabby, floor to ceiling windows make the space very light, and the staff seem nice. Would go again but avoid the dessert.
Good place, but way too much waiting period to dine in and also the idlis aren't as soft as they are supposed to be. All in all, the dosas and meal we had were good but there is scope for improvement.
Excellent customer service. Delicious food. Hygienic and super fast delivery of food through their robot which brings your food to your table. Prices are reasonable too. A good vegetarian restaurant for yummy South Indian food. Kids love their dosas.
Onion masala dosa - Crispy and tasty. The potato masala however requires slight improvement. It was plain. Good for kids. They gave chilli on side when requested. 3.5/5
Vada - It was freshly made. One of the best so far in Melbourne. So crispy and the inside was well cooked. 5/5
Thali - Didn't like the roti, too dry and thick, more like parotta. Next time, I will choose puri instead of roti. However, the whole thali was good. It would be better if they explain a bit more about the different curries in the thali for people like me who don't know much about South-Indian curries. I asked the attendant, she politely explained they were all non-spicy south-Indian curries and she took all the names of the curries as it was in the menu. Anyways we figured which is what and what combination is best to eat them with. Payasam in the thali was my most favourite. 4/5
Service - Both human and robot were efficient. It was lunch-time rush, and they managed to maintain excellent customer service. 4.5/5
Amazing food and very friendly and helpful staff. If you are craving authentic South Indian food, this is the place to go. Also, lots of parking is available, however, I’ll recommend avoiding peak times during weekends as there could be long waiting time. I’m so coming back here !!
The food was so delicious. I have ordered Mini Tifin as I wanted to try different dishes. It comes with mini dosa, one vada, pongal, Kesari, mini idlys, sambar and two chutneys. I can’t complaint on any. It was all tasty and better than many other South Indian restaurants here. My friend tried Madras coffee and said it was good too.
We made the order using the QR code and was quick. The robot brought the order without any delay. Everything was neat and clean, looks okay. The quantity is not much for the price, but is good enough to fill an average person. Overall the food I had was good and Saravanaa Bhavan doesn’t disappoint me.
I had been to this restaurant plenty of times and I never get disappointed. A must visit place for vegetarian food. So many different options to choose from. Totally loved the robotic serving of food.
Good authentic South Indian food and coffee
However wish they would book tables and take calls.
Wish there was extra staff to manage over weekend rush, when there's weekend surcharge.
