Fabulous old-school Chinese place. Excellent family service and awesome tasting food. Family friendly. Lots of veg options and some more unusual dishes like crocodile and tripe, as well as the usual favourites.
Came here for a family dinner recently. Was quite a nice restaurant with lots of room. We were a party of 8 plus 3 kids. Ordered 8 dishes in the hope that it would be enough as most restaurants it would have been more than sufficient. The serves were quite small and not as hearty as other Chinese restaurants. But the dishes were all quite tasty. The BBQ pork was a winner and we ordered another plate as some of us missed out!
I often go here with Chinese relatives, virtually every birthday or special event in fact - it's authentic Chinese food and all of the staff are quite friendly. They do yum cha too, which I definitely recommend.
Pretty good variety for yumcha and tastes great! Love most of the dumplings and fried dishes. If you go during quiet times expect a smaller variety of food though. The dumplings are quite big in size and most of the ones I have tried are juicy and delicious. Service is good enough and on weekends the food gets served pretty quick. One of my few go to yumcha restaurants.
Our regular Chinese out. Best Chinese I’ve had in years. Service is great. Food is always delicious. Fresh ingredients and tasty, well seasoned and well presented. Good serving sizes. Large and spacious restaurant with dated decor that really needs to be renovated. Family friendly. Online bookings.
Great value. Our go to place if we want some local yum cha. The service is always great and very nice environment for a family event. Definitely recommend this place!
My family and I have been coming to this restaurant for years for Yum Cha! The food is good and for me what makes them different from the others is their service. The staff works hard but always friendly. We'll always keep coming back that's for sure!
Great selection of food for Yum Cha, quality is on par with quantity. I just keep coming back to this joint whenever we feel like Yum Cha. Great friendly staff always welcoming you in and removing dirty plates, cups in time for the next serving.
Typical chinese restaurant. The yum cha is alright, just the usual, nothing amazing but nothing bad. A good local place to go for a quick meal. Dinner is alright too.
Is a favourite for Yum Cha.... this hidden treasure produces the goods on a level thay had it as one of the leaders in the area when it come to a Succulent Chinese meal.... definitely highly recommended
The best yum cha place in our area 。 highly recommend their prawn dumplings & crispy custard bun . Super tasty & good price indeed . Love it . Friendly staff.
Eight of us patronised this restaurant at lunch today. We had more than 10 yum cha dishes. Of special mention is their char siew pao, siew mai, bai kuat (steamed pork ribs), chicken feet, beef balls, egg tarts and snow ball ice cream (cold ice cream wrapped around by flour and shredded coconut)
We've been coming here for yum cha for years. The food is always fresh and price is good. Staff are attentive though with little smile. The quality of dishes are consistent and no surprises. It is never overly crowded and tables are not too close together just the way we like it! A relaxing, comfortable and no-stress environment unlike many other yum cha places either seating are too tight or too noisy. We will always come back....
It’s about two years since we reviewed Mei Jing Chinese Restaurant. Has it kept up its high standards? Yes, definitely! Family and friends recently indulged (once for yum cha and the second time for dinner) and had wonderful meals on both occasions.Selection of yum cha dishesYum cha highlights included the spicy calamari, steamed Japanese egg tofu with minced prawn and scallops, tripe (even an avowed offal phobic declared that it tasted good), and the chicken feet. Only a couple of minor disappointments: the spicy fried white bait was overcooked and overpowered by the garlic; and the pastry on the egg tarts was a bit heavy. But these are just small quibbles in what was a great meal.
Went to Mei Jing for yumcha recently. Slightly tired decor but don't let this turn you away. The food is quite nice here. I was told they don't normally have deep fried glutinous rice dumplings with red bean paste (my favorite dish in yumcha) during weekdays but they were very accommodating and made it for me anyway. Thumbs up for that. My sister didn't complain about getting thirsty after the meal which is good as she is very sensitive to MSG. Overall, nice experience. Will come back for traditional yumcha for sure.
This is always a nice place for Yum Cha. Fills up pretty quick during lunch, so get in early. They suit both western food tastes and Chinese tastes.
Staff are a little rude, but that's to be expected from the quick service.
Good food, friendly staff and reasonably priced too.. This restaurant is definitely worth a try. Staff were friendly and attentive, service was fast. We loved their honey prawn with a generous serving. All the other dishes were well prepared. We'll be making this one our regular go to for Chinese.
Best local chinese. Love this restaurant. Polite staff, default location for Chinese dinner, both take away and dining in. Yum cha lunch is amazing.
Tofu fa. That was good! Nothing much to look at but it was delicate and silken and warm and gingery. My ideal comfort food.
We come here often for yum cha (we always rotate between here and the few places in the Eastern suburbs such as Imperial Kingdom). This time we came here for dinner – more specifically, their crab. Nicely cooked and a generous bed of noodles to soak up all that juice. Maybe it was because I had crab two days in a row (the other day being at Omah’s – lucky me hey!), I found this crab to be not as good as Omah’s but enjoyable none the less because I do like the cantonese style crab with ginger and spring onions.
The chicken feet were lovely and deep flavoured. Eating chicken feet at yum cha is probably the only time that I enjoy gristle. Plus, recently I found out how much effort that actually goes into making this dish, so I was able to appreciate it more (I didn't realise that the feet were deep fried, then plunged in ice water for hours to make the skin puff up, after which they are braised).
Great service from all the staff. They were brilliant with the kids. Food was great and we enjoyed every dish. See pics of the bill but there was 6 of us and we all left full
Yum Cha faves. One of my favourite places to go for yum cha. Nice Chinese restaurant serving quality dim sum and not overly priced. Service is pretty good too!
FANTASTIC YUM CHA. Been twice on a Sunday for Yum Cha now - both were excellent and I am fussy with my yum cha! Very creative dishes- some I hadn't seen before, everything very fresh, dumpling dishes were fresh.
Would highly recommend!
Grouper 2 Ways, Steam and Stir-Fry with Seasonal Vegie. This is not on the menu, have to order a grouper and ask for way to cook it.
A little different, but still pretty good.. The first sign of a GOOD Yum Cha restaurant is that you have to wait for a while to be seated. In these cases, I'd rather wait for good food than get so-so food right away. We went here as a party of 4 based on previous good reviews. All over, I would give the place the thumbs up but I will have to go there again to be totally sure.
First of all, I really liked seeing such a mix of clientelle. Chinese Families, Chinese / Aussie families, and then Aussie only families all sitting together in this restaurant enjoying each others company and also the food. For this alone, I will go back.
The service was quite good for a Yum Cha restaurant. We asked for tea and a carafe of water and glasses. The tea was there in a flash.. the water never turned up, but this is nothing to get upset about here.
The carts full of steamer dishes never stopped circulating and there was a wide variety of dishes, so repetition was not much of an issue. I did not see any steamed vege dishes, like Gai Lan or Choy Sum come by, but I was sure I could have ordered it. I'll try next time. Now to some specifics. In quite a lot of the dishes, I found the flavour profiles a little different from what I am used to.
Overall the dishes seemed on the salty side and this is unusual for Chinese food, as the balance of sweet, salty, sour etc is always very balanced. Specifically, the Roast Duck was very salty and the BBQ Pork was very sweet. Some of the sui mai had the same issue, but all seafood tasted fresh. Beef tendons really needed a lot more time, but the fact they were on the menu at all is a good thing, so give them a try.
I'll be going back to check the flavours again and order a few special dishes. The main thing to consider is the price. We found it very reasonable even with those issues above.
Cheers!
Had yum cha there today. Fast service, friendly staff and food of a reasonable standard. The desserts let them down- I wouldn't get the cold jellied desserts again. Otherwise worth going to for a quick brunch.
Yoghurt Snow Crab a MUST TRY!. Can't say anymore until you have tried!
Best crab style in the world! A must try if you are a crab or seafood lover!
Worth the trip. A little out of the way, this restaurant seems to be very busy very often and I can see why.
The quality of the food is Very High and the service is great considering they are often packed.
Service: Good
Staff: Good
Food: Very Good
Prices: Fair
Authenticity: 5 dumpling out of 8
Coffee: N/A
Décor: Good
Some of the best yum cha for the price around.
The dumplings, dim sims & associated dishes were great. Freshly cooked and hadn't been on the cart too long or anything like that.
Fried squid was also sensational as an extra side dish that we ordered, well cooked and very tender.
The place was busy (late Sunday arvo lunch), probably helps with the freshness.
10/10 for me
Quite nice. Have been to three yum cha restaurants in the past in Melbourne. This is the best from that small group. We were promptly seen to on arrival and seated immediately. Perhaps a smile then and through our dining would have been nice. Food came out quickly and was delicious. Peking duck prepared for us with the usual condiments. Duck pieces a little big so not a melt in the mouth experience. Perhaps shredded would have been better. I was please to see chicken feet as an option even though I did not choose them for my self. Perhaps next time. Quite a bit to choose from and great value. Décor was ok but didn’t expect much.
The three year old I was entertaining was mesmerised by the fish tanks. A good distraction for mum so she could eat with two hands free. My other guests commented that they would come back. Well all had an enjoyable experience. Will return myself.
Goood yum cha, cheap prices and attentive staff
Family favourite yum cha! Delicious and well priced food. Have been regulars for about 2 years and will keep coming!
Fantastic. I've been going here since about 2002 and I must say that i've never been more impressed. Usually over time restaurants get worse, but this is definitely the best Yum cha in Melbourne and has been for a very long time. Quick and efficient, a little busy on Sundays. Worth every cent. Staff are friendly and attentive.
Very good meal, no problem getting a table for two on Friday night with no booking. Clean, bright decor. Service was very efficient and food was great particularly entree of pork slices, abalone steamed with ginger and pork dumplings Yum!
Reliable and tasty. An old friend and I are lunch regulars here. We ritually eat our favourite dishes and everything, from the service to the food, is always of a reliable high standard. This restaurant is like an old friend to us.
Decent yum cha in the 'burbs. I've only ever been to Mei Jing for yum cha.
The staff are usually efficient and attentive - occasionally on a Sunday the place is busy they can miss you if you've been allocated a corner table. Tea is usally refilled ASAP, and requests for extra napkins/chopsticks/cutlery are seen to quickly.
Standard selection of yum cha items: family favourites include prawn dumplings, shark fin dumplings, rice rolls, BBQ pork buns and beancurd rolls.
Reasonably priced - my only concern is the manager who appears to have missed out on hospitality training 101: she never greets/acknowledges/smiles at diners.
Packed out Yum Cha. It's hard to find bad yum cha, but easy to find rude service. Here we have good yum cha and good service along with average prices.
The food were delicious and the customer services were good. The staffs often refill our tea pot and keep our table clean by changing our plants and remove the empty bamboo steamers. We appreciated a lot. Will definitely come back.
Always a good experience. Clean and food is fresh and hot. Their Yum cha has a lot of variety and need to visit again to try everything. We have also tried from their a la Carte. Recommend!
Reasonably good yum cha. Stand out was the zha leong. Yao zha guai was light and crispy inside. Other dishes were all quite good. Would go back again
