Review Terry's Kitchen Cafe - Wantirna

Situated within the CityLife church building itself, it might be easy to miss it. The noodles were simple yet tasted so heavenly good. The rice is drenched in this light soy flavoured sauce. The accompanying pork slices were soft and melts in your mouth. Plenty of seats inside and outside with a small playground on the side perfect for family meals out. Food - 10 Service - 9 Vibe - 10 Price - $

Homely, nostalgic and comforting food from a warm service crew :) This place came highly recommended from a Facebook group and just to be sure we returned on two separate days to get a full experience. We went first on Easter Sunday and then the following Saturday. On both occasions, the service was sufficiently attentive and personable and the food quick and tasty. We sampled the following dishes: Nasi Lemak with ginger tumeric chicken Nasi Lemak bungkus with chicken karaage - coconut taste from the rice was subtle and not overpowering. The sambal was quite mild but perfect for Nasi Lemak, where the rice is basically a vehicle to eat more sambal. Both types of chicken were yummy and not dried out but the edge here goes to the fried chicken. -peanuts and fish were satisfyingly salty and crisp. -pickled veggies were also tangy and complemented the dish Tau too fah with Gula Melaka -smooth tau too fah here with Gula Melaka. Close enough to back home for us to buy 3. Siew Pao with cha siu -surprisingly this was extremely good. I would legitimately come back just for Siew Pao that's near me. Teh Tarik - when we saw the froth we instantly knew it was going to be good, then the classic hawker centre cup sealed the deal. Smooth teh, tea taste is strong enough and did not go nuts with the condensed milk. Curry puff Sardine puff - have not yet eaten as we are stuffed. May update with edit. Safe to say you won't be disappointed in whichever you choose. When the uncle asks you "teh Tarik you want sweet or less sweet?" You know it's authentic. It's quite an interesting kopitiam vibe in a modern space. Go give it a try when you can, order ahead to avoid disappointment!

Alright, missing home too much and went to this cafe/canteen to try their menu. Is our first time and found this simple canteen is inside the CityLife Church. Please make sure you get a table first as you need to provide table number before you queue to order. If you alone, is alright. Our usual norm, just use tissue or water bottle or Tupperware to chop your seat before you queue to order! (Haha!) If you bring your kids along, don’t worry. There’s a mini playground for them after the meal. I personally love roti banjir, not too spicy. Just celup your roti into the yolk, heaps of curry and sambal before putting it into your mouth. Best maikkkk!

This food is absolutely delicious! Having eaten so many restaurants, this Malay food is really delicious, and it makes me unforgettable every day!

Authentic Malaysian food in a neighbourhood with lots of Malaysians. In pandemic times, this feels closest to being home, which was really heartwarming. Food was quick, delicious and good sized portions. We had nasi lemak, one with fried chicken and another with the grilled fish (ikan Bakar), Malaysian breakky (Kaya toast & half boiled eggs), and a curry puff, with some teh Tarik. Kaya toast and the ikan Bakar (grilled fish) was the highlight for me. Kaya toast was massive and generous amounts of Kaya and butter combo - really good! Ikan Bakar (grilled fish) is hard to come by in Melbourne and I was really satisfied with the sambal salty & lemon tangy flavours, grilled in banana leaf. We also bought some nyonya kuih to try, but it wasn't as good as their hot foods. Curry puffs was 3 out of 5, curry filling was good but the pastry was quite soft, not crispy. Overall, very good and absolutely affordable prices. So glad we came to try this out. Even though it's far from where we live, it was worth it!

Terry Kitchen is in our favourite list. Had take away their foods during lock down, it was so delicious. Happy that they open for dining in and for breakfast too. It’s friendly atmosphere to dine in. Malaysian Breakfast and Dry noodle and curry puffs are the great start breakfast for the day. I really like their retro style serving plates and bowls.

With Terry’s Kitchen more than 10 kms away from home, I was glad I could order their items with a flat rate $10 delivery fee. I ordered their nasi kerabu and nasi lemak with spicy squid. Everything was packed nicely and the food was quite delicious. I enjoyed the accompanying sauces. The salad was fresh, the chicken was well seasoned and the blue pea rice was spot on. I also ordered some noodles and cakes as well, which I will post on Instagram this week.

Overrated IMHO - Came highly recommended and we left with no desire to return. FOOD Curry puff - the curry is not flavourful with barely any filling and the pastry isn’t great Pulut bakar (grilled glutinous rice with dedicated coconut+ shrimp in banana leaves) - one bite and 😣 there is no fragrance from banana leaves / coconut, can’t taste the shrimp… Nasi lemak (coconut rice) with grilled fish - not bad among the lot, good crisp anchovies and grilled fish is a rare find with NL. But the hard boiled egg was cold, the sambal is not authentic SERVICE It’s an order at the counter cafe. The least they can do is to smile & be friendly during the short interaction but no…
