Review Vanilla Orchid - Warrandyte

Delicious food and good service. The toilet floor and handle was extremely sticky though. Quite busy for a rainy Wednesday night.

Some good foods on offer like the Pad Thai. However avoid the pork belly as it's twice cooked and incredibly dry and inedible, apparently by choice. Service was poor. Took 15-20 mins at the start for anyone to greet us and to order a drink; and the younger staff were showing low enthusiasm. Restaurant is clearly staffed by inexperienced people, but could be as a result of the post pandemic staffing issues. Senior waitress knew how to deal with customers better. Really needs to lift it's game if it wants to stay around and be popular.

Thought we would give this restaurant a try and weren't disappointed. Staff were very friendly and attentive Great service and food was really good. Serves were a good size and all served in good time. Prices are reasonable and we thought good value. Will return as a great Thai Restaurant. Highly recommended

Good quality Thai food. We really enjoyed our meal. $8.00 corkage perfectly acceptable. Staff did a good job on a busy night. Some dishes slightly over priced but overall, worth it. We will be going back.

The food here is excellent, every dish i would give 10 out of 10. I would give 5 stars, but really disappointed with wine and service. The most expensive Chardonnay Morgans Bay is $10 a bottle online, but they sell it at $45 and it is rubbish. The service was also disappointing.

Beautiful setting. I love Warrandyte. The food was very nice and the service was terrific. Thank you.

We had the spring rolls, green chicken curry, and fried barramundi fillet. All the dishes were well cooked, full of flavour, and well portioned. The chocolate mousse and sticky date were also great, especially the sticky date sauce. Friendly customer service.

WOW.... Just WOW!!! Absolutely the best Thai food ever!! Great friendly service, plenty of room to move so we weren't crammed in too close to other diners and large meals with flavours I could never have imagined. Do yourself a favour and go to vanilla orchid Thai. You won't be disappointed I'm sure.

Probably one of the best Thai places I’ve ever eaten at. The menu is extensive with something that’ll appeal to everyone. Although there are many traditional dishes , you should try the ones that you wouldn’t normally find. In saying that, the Pad Thai is fabulous. Staff are exceptional so a big shout out to them. Bookings advised as it gets busy quickly. Good takeaway - just ring it through.
Wheelchair friendly sky. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible. Good parking at the rear or across the road.

Vanilla Orchid never fails to deliver the most tasty meals, takeaway or dine in they are always amazing.
Always my number one option when getting a bite to eat in Warrandyte.

In relaxing Warrandyte sits upmarket, yet affordable Vanilla Orchid. Their extensive Thai menu and spacious venue is an ideal chilled out dinner for all the family.

Heard good things about this Thai place out in Warrandyte. The starters were all decent, with the vegetable tempura being a surprisingly big serving. My favourite was the simple crackers with satay sauce. Corn fritters and the satay chicken were all enjoyable too. For mains, the chicken green curry tickled my fancy the most. I wasn’t too keen on the massaman that came with lamb as standard instead of beef. It also had pineapple in it, which was interesting! Overall, the food wasn’t bad but the service was terrible. I get that it’s hard to find good help, but it was borderline atrocious. Having to wave down and basically beg to have our order taken, having the dirty dishes from starters piled up and only removed as the mains came.

It was a balmy 30 degree Friday night when we enjoyed a sunny drive out to Warrandyte to try out the menu of Vanilla Orchid. This place has been in operation since 2009 and from observations. There were a lot of regulars who knew the waiting staff by name. The atmosphere was really jovial inside and there was a couple of larger groups and sparkling wine popping behind us before we even got to our menus.

Tonight we started with a ginger and mint mojito and a beer Lao, the mojito was fabulous and strong and seriously refreshing on this hot night.

Our combination of entrees started with Thai fish cakes served on a fresh vibrant salad and had a lovely level of heat. The Signature dish of pork belly was thin crispy pieces of pork belly on a lovely caramelized sauce. The Chicken Satay, was next, these generous skewers of chicken where tender and were paired with a slightly sweet but delicious satay.

For mains we dined on The Warm chicken salad and when this dish arrived it was not at all what I was expecting although in saying that I think this dish was probably my favorite of the night. The minced chicken salad was fresh and had the most wonderful zesty dressing that was the perfect combo of sweet, salty and sour, it went really well with the mint that was chopped through the salad and was an absolute winner with my taste buds.

The Beef Pad Pet Stir Fry (another signature dish) was peppercorn spicy and reminded me a little of a Thai take on a Szechuan cuisines without the dominance of chilli. There were whole peppers, fried basil, and assorted veggies. This spicy dish was smokey, I loved the retention of crunch in the veggies and the beef was tender and tasty with a spicy hit.

For dessert we shared the Kaffir Lime Panna cotta, the kaffir lime was quite subtle, this dish was light and fresh, I thought the coconut crumb topping added a clever textural crunch to each mouthful.

We really loved our time at Vanilla Orchid and totally recommend. Thanks to the team for inviting us in.

We love this restaurant!! Really great food and staff. Food was served super fast and everything was fresh. Everything was delicious - especially loved the red duck curry, satay skewers, and pad met (with so much meat, and the vegetables were super fresh!!). Really generous helpings too - but we still finished all our food - which is a first for us, we normally can't finish but we polished it off here! Also the sticky date pudding was so so yummy. Will be back here again for sure!!!

The food at Vanilla Orchid is absolutely delicious! We loved all the dishes and choosing one of the set menus is great value for the amazing food you get. The red curry duck was our favourite. The atmosphere is great and the staff are very friendly and efficient. Well worth a visit for a beautiful feed and night out!

Nestled above the river in Warrandyte is Vanilla Orchid, a Thai restaurant of some notoriety in The surrounding suburbs. Just a short review as my vegetarian and I were both impressed and surprised by the quality of the food, but not with the level of service by which our order was confused by the staff. On a table with 4 people, three dishes were incorrect and had to be remade.

The food was lovely however, when it arrived. The ambience was also pleasant, if loud. We will go back again to sample more of the menu at a later date.

Very good, just not yet great.
Always Hungry
We went here as a group of four and shared a few mains and a couple of entrees and they were all delicious.
My favourites were the Thai green curry and cashew stir fry.
The staff were very sweet and attentive and the restaurant wasn't too busy.
I'd come back here if I came back to warrandyte!

Been here many times over the years and cant say after tonight ill be returning or recommending

after we were seated we were left alone for 20 minutes before eventually asking to order a drink. this continued throughout the night not having our water jug refilled at all and seemingly being ignored when trying to get attention to order another drink. after we ordered our entrees arrived around 35 minutes later, a little longer than id like however due to peak times i can understand.

however after our entrees were done we asked for 3 new plates to eat our mains on we were fairly rudely told by your young red head waitress that there are no more clean plates and we can just re use our entree plates. Is it really that hard to quickly wash 3 plates, or take some off the unoccupied table next to us? Then to have 1 of 6 main meals arrive after an hour an a half followed by a 15 then 25 minute wait for everyone else on the tables main to arrive.

unacceptable service and we wont be back.
TheyCallHimX
Super nice Thai place located in buzzing area. Staff were great and attentive.

Food came out rather quickly which was a nice surprise. Roti was well cooked and loved the peanut sauce.
We always like to go green curry and pad sew when we eat Thai and I always eat the green curry first cause pad sew is my favourite.
But for the first time ever I actually enjoyed the green curry more and wish I had that last. Pad sew wasn't bad, just wasn't the best I've had.

But overall a great experience.
Good Food Good Mood
Tonight we ventured to the sweet little suburb of Warrandyte which is such a quaint patch of Melbourne it makes you feel as though you are on vacation in a cute little country town. We dined in a group of eight and were rather impressed. The staff were lovely, the service was efficient and the decor was suitably traditional instantly transporting me to a restaurant in Bangkok. The food was aromatic and authentic with the menu thoughtfully indicating the levels of heat in all the dishes. At this point I'll point out the Zomato menu is out of date and their current menu is actually even more enticing including a delicious range of desserts all with a intriguing Thai spin.
Across the table we had spring rolls, satay chicken skewers and tom yum for entree and for mains it was chicken satay greens, beef cashew stir fry, laab chicken salad, red curry stir fry, Penang curry, and seafood stir fry paired with a whole heap of coconut rice.
Lots of punchy delicious flavours. The Penang was my standout, lots of lemongrass and nuttiness and delicious coconut cream packed with plenty of heat. I could have drunk the sauce like a soup. Quite a strong atmosphere too aided by the decorative interior and full capacity. Solid find

Went here tonight with an entertainment voucher and have to say it was great! We read the reviews on here prior to going and they sounded good. Definitely recommend! Cozy and warm atmosphere on a cold night like tonight. Tasty Thai and staff really friendly yet not pushy.

Great meal. The Chicken Tom Kha soup was probably the most unique but delicious that I have ever had. The red curry could have been spicier for our taste. Great service and the staff were genuinely interested in providing a great meal.
I Love Food
Dined here on Tuesday night on a Scoopon voucher - $59 for 3
course banquet with sides and drinks – best value deal! We were greeted by a
very friendly and smiley lady and sat at our window table – for entrée we
shared the tasting platter of chicken skewer, fish cake, spring roll, curry
puff and tofu in batter – all items were very tasty. Main we shared green curry
chicken, chilli basil beef stir fry and chicken tempura in red curry with
steamed rice and roti bread. Again all the mains were delicious – good serving
sizes too. We could pick our own desserts so we shared the sticky date pudding
and kaffir lime panna cotta – again both desserts were very nice and full of
flavour and a great way to end a great night of delicious food. We also had a
drink each so hubby ordered a beer and I ordered their homemade non-alcoholic
lime and ginger drink - so yummy. Deal also included coffees but we don’t drink
coffee and were just too full and in a satisfied food coma. Overall great value
deal and we loved the food and the friendly and welcoming service. I don’t say
this too often but we’ll return and pay full price for sure. A local gem for
Warrandyte.

In the serene historic town of Warrandyte you will encounter this little gem of an eatery. As you approach Vanilla Orchid, a sense of longing hits you for the tropical Paradise- The wooden building with the casual outdoor seating as well as the ornamentally decorated red interior - the color for happiness, prosperity and passion. There is an energetic buzz around softened by the graceful manner of the friendly and efficient staff.

The menu definitely reflects the style of chef Duncan Robertson- there is a sense of passion, adventure and color while humbly respecting tradition. The integrity of each dish is depicted in the quality of the produce and the complex, caring and time consuming cooking techniques used which caress and emulsify every ingredient to perfection.

The crispy pork belly stole the heart of my palate- melt in the mouth and crispy at the same time, comes with a salad dressed in nutty and sweet Thai flavors- all my dreams come true in one dish!.. Also as an entrée- the Tom Kha soup has a perfect velvety consistency with a heat that warms you up and a tang that makes you long for more- comes with your choice of meats or veggies- makes a fantastic appetizer.

A standout main was the Burmese sweet beef curry- a fragrant dark and creamy sauce coating voluptuous and melt in the mouth beef morsels gently and slowly cooked for what seems to be an eternity. The velvety textures, the sweet, tangy and warm flavors make this a Hearty and satisfying dish.

The experience ends with the fun Mediterranean desserts infused with the tropical flavors of Thailand illustrated with simple and colorful Beauty.

A memorable food experience which I feel honored to share with friends, family, loved ones and all food lovers.

No effort

The house was full but VO's staff and crew knew how to handle it - prompt attention from the wait staff and reasonable wait times from the kitchen. The food was not inventive but it was tasty and hot.

Isn't is great when a night out is just easy! Thanks, VO. Hope to make it back soon.
CCC
The staff were extremely friendly and went above and beyond for us which was great, I loved that also got a free sample taste of the massaman. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the seafood wasn't great quality and the squid very rubbery but apart from that the food was fantastic

Average food, Over rated!

Based on the reviews, we had taken our guest who had recently moved to Melbourne.
Right at the time of food order, we made it a point about the spicy level as medium. When the food arrived it was unbearably hot/spicy **almost every dish.
A good service is, when a restaurant is aware about their level of spice level, they should mention it well before to their guests. Or, offer to correct it after food is served (when the guest is struggling to dine) But, unfortunately both we terribly missing.

Tried Kunp pao chicken, Tiger prawns and the beef.

the chicken was good.
Prawns and the beef were below average!

Bottom line: Focus is more on decor than food and service!

Knock out! This place ticks all the boxes. It is well staffed and the service prompt and efficient. They are welcoming, friendly and professional. The food is high quality and well presented, with portions being generous. The menu has the classics and more unique options too. Great to see Beer Laos as a drink option, a drink made for this cuisine. The stand out is really the atmosphere and spaciousness. It is a warm, homely and perfectly lit space and although it is buzzing and appears very popular with locals, it keeps an intimate feel. A real gem in Warrandyte.

Very highly recommended everyone. Had dinner here tonight. Dinner being entrees of thrice cooked pork belly, roti bread and peanut sauce, with mains of masaman curry and stir fry cashew chicken. While the entrees were average (in particular we were expecting the pork belly to be more wow based on reviews),the mains were spectacular, with the masaman curry (cooked with the most delectable lamb) being one of the best curries ive had in a while. The interiors and service were excellent too. While you wouldnt come here all the time as it is quite pricey, would definitely recommend it for a special occasion.
N & N :)
Really great interior and a very intimate quite dining experience. Quite nice for a date. The food has quite big portions and has a lot of the traditional thai flavouring which is great. Probably not the best Thai place in Melbourne but its definitely a nice meal. Its also quite pricey.

We went for dinner with great anticipation due to the owner's cooking show - Duncan's Thai kitchen. I have also purchased the book. So was very excited to try his restaurant.
I have to say I am deeply disappointed.
It is not as authentic as I hoped it would be. The cooking show looked every bit of authentic Thai food.
We ordered the glass noodle salad with seafood which was way too sweet - far from the traditional lime sour tangy taste I'm accustomed to; green curry with beef tastes nice but beef was very dry and tough.
With the high price tag, I have to say it is really not worth it. Although only 15mins away from us, we would rather drive half hour to Richmond to have jinda or thaiger rabbit, or ingdoi. All cheaper and nicer.

The meals are always absolutely beautiful here and they are very accomodating to my allergies. Service is great and when we went here for Valentine's Day they even gave us a $20 voucher. Can't fault

Excellent, consistent food and service.

I would highly recommend Vanilla Orchid. Some of the freshest, best Thai food around. The service is consistently excellent, with wait staff numerous and attentive. I have eaten here regularly and have always had an extremely positive experience. Takeaway is always ready. Prices are cheap for the quality of the food. Do yourself a favour and give Vanilla Orchid a go.

Went there last night and enjoyed the Thai crispy chicken, red duck curry and pad Thai. Enjoyed it all but disappointed that beef Penang is no longer available-please bring back our favourite dish!! Servings are good value for money with plenty to eat

Highly recommended.
Taste - 9/10
Value - 9/10

After using whatshalfway.com to find somewhere to dine out with freinds, we settled on Vanilla Orchid.
When booking for a Saturday evening, they informed us that they have two dinner sittings, 6pm & 8pm and we were invited to arrive early and enjoy drinks on the verandah overlooking the yarra & bushlands (across the road).

On arriving 30-45 mins early (to have drinks on the verandah), we told them of our 8pm booking and were shown to seating on the verandah (along the bar height bench). Our drink orders promptly taken and delivered. When our friends arriver their drink orders were quickly taken and delivered also. Our table was ready early and we were invited to come in whenever we were ready. As soon as we were seated, we were offered water and an appetizer. At no point were we rushed throughout the evening. Seating is not cramped and there's plenty of space in the split level, good size dining rooms.

The many Staff were very helpful without "hovering" and more than happy to assist with any requests.
It was no trouble to place the entrée's order then the mains at a later point (too many yummy choices). Food came out quickly and was hot and very tasty. The serving sizes were not "large" but after 4 entrees & 3 mains, 3 desserts between 4 adults (2m, 2f), they were more than enough and we couldn't finish them.

Everything we ate had lots of flavour and is not your standard Thai Restaurant menu that you see everywhere else. I recommend you try the Crispy Pork Belly Entree as it was my favourite dish.

Thanks to our waiter Josh for great service.

Really yummy Thai food with great service! If the food can come with a bit more chilli it will be very authentic. Dessert was sooooooo good!

Thought we'd try something new for dinner. The place was busy, service was attentive but not buzzy. We tried the red duck curry (my favourite dish) which was tasty but sauce could have been thicker - plenty of duck! We had the house special thrice cooked pork belly - it was tender though reasonably fatty for having been thrice cooked and we had the seafood prick pao which was delicious, sweet, smoky and yummy! Two of us struggled to finish it (no entrees but a serve of roti to mop up sauce and steamed rice - a bit steep at $3 per small bowl). Definitely worth a visit - quality dining in the serene surroundings of Warrandyte!
Vanilla Orchid is a great Thai Resteraunt that offers authentic flavours. Highly recommend to go out of your comfort zone and try different plates than you would normally order
Ramen Girl
Thai food in Warrandyte that is tasty in a friendly environment. Had the mixed seafood with glass noodles and really enjoyed it. Not sure if it is authentic but it was really delicious. A fav of friends who live in the area.

Really tasty authentic Thai food, wide variety of regional favourites, which never disappoints, been here numerous times and is always consistently good and service is always great

Yummmmmmiest Thai food made with love. Authentic service and rich authentic flavors in every dish. Have returned many many times! Good idea to make a booking though, this place is always busy and very popular with the locals.

Love this place!. Have been coming here with the family for the past 3 years and we absolutely love it! Great staff and food is so delicious! Especially love the Massaman Lamb Curry-so much flavour!
Melbourne Food Review
This place has just introduced two separate settings on Saturday nights at 6 and 8pm. I HATE THAT. A meal is not something to be hastily gobbled down while you watch the clock, especially at dinner time. The whole point is to spend the evening with family and friends, chatting over the menu and discussing what is happening in each other’s lives. No one likes to feel rushed while they are doing this. This said, I can understand why they have started to do this as the restaurant was well and truly full for both settings. Chicken satay skewers Disappointingly, the waitress who first served us was snappy and didn’t even give us a chance to answer her whe

Excellent night out. You must try the Pork belly thai salad, bags of flavour! My wife and I are hard to please when it comes to Thai, as we have frequented lots of thai restaurants over the years. However this restaurant is a perfect balance of traditional and modern dishes. We have been twice and all dishes were full of flavour, with the service being fast and efficient. The place was busy but there were more than enough floor staff to tend to us at a seconds notice which we really appreciate. Desserts are great. Entre's are over-priced. Will be back for sure.

Wonderful Thai food!. Had dinner here with my sister, and the whole dining experience was wonderful. The place was quite busy, but we were served within 3 minutes of being seated, and water was poured while waiting for drinks which came out quickly. Ordered the Tom Kha soup, which is the best I've eaten, and had the perfect sweet, sour, hot balance; wish the Thai restaurants made it just as good in my area. We shared the Seafood Prik Pao, and the Greens and Tofu Satay along with some coconut rice. Both dishes were extremely tasty, and the Prik Pao was loaded with fresh seafood, while the Greens had lovely pieces of perfectly cooked tofu. Sadly, we could not manage to fit in dessert.
Overall I would highly recommend this place to lovers of good Thai food. The decor is classy but traditional Thai with a verandah for sipping cocktails on a hot night, service was perfect. Will be back when next in the area.

My new favourite Thai Restaurant. Went in last weekend for the first time and loved it. Great service and delicious food mmm the curries are amazing (I chose a very strange traditional drink, but didn't like it and the waiter was very accommodating). Have told all my friends about this place he he. See you again very soon ☺

Very nice. Thank you for a great dinner,it was superb,so tasty, will definitely be back

Disappointed. After being recommended to this Thai restaurant I decided to order take away. Driving over 20 minutes to get home only to realise we had the wrong order. I promptly called the restaurant to let them know we had received the wrong order and will be back to collect our order. I didn't even get an apology, and the lady told me my meal was waiting for me on the bench.
I asked the lady if my meal was going to be freshly cooked as it being over 40min now, she said the meal was still warm as it was under the heat lamp. After speaking with anther staff member I insisted the meal was freshly cooked or I will be coming back for a full refund! She then said she will have to speak with the chef.
Retuning to the restaurant to pick up my correct meal, I didn't even get an apology from the staff or chef, I just felt like i was an inconvenience.
The food wasn't the best, nor had being freshly cooked. Will not be returning again after this disappointing experience.

Duncan. Your amazing. the flavours of the foods took us back to our holiday to Thailand. would I go back yes. it was worth the hour drive. try the khao soi
Daniel Shaw
I had heard good reports, but I must say it was very average and expensive !! Poor cheap cuts of chicken used, curry was weak and watered down in flavor ! Over all a poor experience. Wouldn't bother

Yum. Enjoyed their red chicken curry - was well pleased! Serving was a good size too...

Fantastic. Went for dinner last night. Have worked in industry for many years. Every dish was excellent. Loved the wide open seating. No cramming folk in here. service was also full of smiles and excellent. 10/10.

Average Thai. If you don't know good Thai food you will think this place is great.....if you know good Thai food....you will go elsewhere. Very average.....and have eaten here a few times....green curry tasteless.
BeeTee
Coconut rice was disappointing and was not cooked in coconut milk as described. Roti was the same as you purchase in a packet from the supermarket. Thai beef salad was just ok. Wont be returning.

Always good here. Nice inside and good service- always welcoming. Wrote my name as Miley Paul (completely wrong) when I first ordered take away 9 months ago. In too deep now to change it- not so good English, very good Thai....food.

Best Thai in Melbourne!. We went here with friends Saturday night, and it was the best decision ever! We love Thai food, having been visitors to Thailand, and have spent many nights exploring Melbournes Thai restaurants.
We had the Set Menu B $57 per person. It was worth every penny. Starting with a complimentary entree of Thai egg salad, then the mixed entree. The satay is amazing and homemade! Our mains of Lamb Massaman Curry, Seafood Stirfry and Grilled Chicken Thigh with sticky rice and tamarind sauce - oh. my. god.!
Its BYO, they have Thai beer, and even some special fusion dishes which are created by Executive Chef, Duncan.
Do yourself a MASSIVE favour and check this place out!
Eric
Excellent. After a great dining experience earlier this year our daughter chose to revisit Vanilla Orchid for her 24th birthday so we reserved a table for 6 last Sunday night. Pleased to report that the overall experience has not diminished, but perhaps achieved a higher level. On a very cold evening the restaurant is warm, with good ambience and all the staff friendly and efficient. We celebrated with a 24 Y.O. Grange that created drama with a problem cork; this was cheerfully resolved and the wine decanted. Very impressive service for a BYO bottle. All starters and mains were perfect. Make sure you try the Tom-Yum (best around). The whole deep fried snapper, should not be missed either. Whilst there are restaurants offering cheaper Thai alternatives Vanilla Orchid has successfully raised the bar for quality and service.

Lovely warm atmosphere. Food presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Recommended.

Local gem!. I visited this restaurant with fairly low expectations, as it seemed a cuisine incongruent for an area like Warrandyte. However, I was very, very impressed by all aspects of the restaurant; the food was EXCELLENT and AUTHENTIC, the staff (including kitchen staff) were extremely courteous and pleasant and the ambience/décor was also top notch. I will undoubtedly return.

Great Food. Great food and restaurant worth a drive out, must book as it gets busy! Even on a weekdays! Save room for deserts as they are delicious and worthy!
Great vegetarian options. Friendly staff not overly attentive. Complimentary taster while you wait, nice atmosphere.
Yes I would recommend to all my friends.
MEAT_BAG
For a local eatery that's a little out of the way, this place offers good food.

Slighty dearer than some thai places I have been, but do not be detered. The quality is excellent with a good variety of dishes. Great vegetarian options as well.

Service is good, 4 main courses arrived over a 5 min window, but tjat was the only fault I found.

Very impressed with the service & the food was just delicious. I highly recommend coming here!

Dinner Review. We attended Vanilla Orchid on Saturday with a large party of people. From the moment we were greeted by the waiter, we found his manner quite arrogant. We ordered our meals and the food was delivered by the female waitresses who had no idea who had ordered what, so each time a plate came out, we were asked "who ordered the chicken? who ordered the beef?", we found this very unprofessional. I would expect that on Victoria Street at $12 for a main course, not at this establishment. Two servings of bread were forgotten (each end of the table ordered a serve), after bringing it to the waiter's attention, we did get an apology, but the bread came out on one plate and were were told that was both serves, and was plonked at one end of the table. Again, no thought and very unprofessional.

The food was great, everyone enjoyed it which was the real shame of this restaurant as the treatment by the waiter and staff really let it down.

At the end of the night, the staff cleared up around us (there were three tables left at this stage), as it was BYO wine, we were finishing off the remainder of this while others were finishing their coffees - our glasses were promptly whisked away by the waiter, the lights were dimmed and it was obvious that we were being "ushered out" with about the subtlety of a sledgehammer. Not what you would expect when the table has spent almost $500.

Overall an unpleasant experience, even though the food was good, you cannot charge these prices if you expect to treat your customers in this manner. I will not be returning again based on this experience.

Great night out. Great food, staff, ambiance. We had the $45 banquet and had a tasty, large serving meal. Tasty green curry and the entrees were a decent size! Great wait staff. Said they would bring top ups if we got through the mains. 3 men with us took up the challenge but at the end were full and satisfied. Lovely quiet surroundings with the take away customers just at the front door. Many restaurants have them walking through the whole restaurant. We did not notice them which was great. Plenty of room from other tables. Don't feel like you are elbowing the table next to you.
Fern
Great food for those who like Thai, and for those who have not yet tryed it!

Watered Down Food for the Western Palate. Very disappointed. Food was toned down for the Aussie palate. There was hardly any taste, very bland and expensive - Pad See Ewe (noodles) cost $20!

Also, don't sit near the store room as there was this terrible smell coming from it. Wait staff were a bit on the cold side, no warmth here. Don't bother!
Nick
Something new. I been there with my wife. food excellent but the complementary entree was boring not make us exiting like last year. I thought I saw Thai guy chef last year but his disappear. We need something new
Cheryl Weatherley
DISAPPOINTED!. Great food and atmosphere but if you're out to relax with friends book the 2nd sitting. from the moment we sat down and we were told that we had to be out within 11/2 hrs and then having our wine opened and then told that will be $7.00 corkage...one would expect the wine to be decantered ...the tone for the night had been set!!! very unprofessional greeting at a restaurant that we had enjoyed previously. 1st time visit for our friends after we had wrapped up the place...embarassing! they said they would not go back. DISAPPOINTING
Daniel
Good Reviews Confirmed!. I read the reviews here, and I was surprised how many of the writers had travelled Thailand. I have been there a few times and we like to eat with the locals - from the street carts - from the night markets - etc, so we consider ourselves to have at least a working knowledge of Thai food. As such, the reviews here really interested me - especially being from Warrandyte. Well, sometimes you can believe what you read! The flavours were surprisingly authentic, although maybe a little shy on the real Thai chilli spice level of the real stuff. The atmosphere was really pleasant and we enjoyed a couple's night there away from our kids, even though there were tables of families with kids. It was just a really good set-up. The waitress was excellent and more than tip worthy. And they gave us complementary entre's while we were waiting, just to show off one of their dishes. The prices were a bit higher and the portions a bit smaller than some of our inner-city Thai fav's, but when we don't feel like a drive then Vanilla Orchid is going to be very hard to beat.

Went to Vanilla Orchid last night for a special event. Fantastic, authentic Thai food. Beef curry is a must have. Generosity of the staff and owners completely overwhelming. Can't wait to go back.

Great food. The food is excellent. Sometimes the service is not the best but overall a nice meal for the family.

Popularity is its only downside. Booked late so we had to sit outside at the bench tables overlooking Yarra Street and a hillside covered in trees. If it wasn't over 30 degrees at 8pm there would be no issue. Besides sweating it out a bit the food was fantastic!!! Some of the most tender beef and lamb I have ever eaten. Will definitely be going back just make sure I book early next time.

Best Thai Food Ever. The food at Vanilla Orchid is so good I am taking the time to write my first Urbanspoon review. It is easily the best Thai I have ever eaten (and was in Thailand for 2 months) and easily one of the best restaurants in Melbourne (certainly for the price range). Plus, servings are huge, as far as I am concerned, and the prices are cheap - and take away is significantly cheaper again. Quality is outstanding, service is warm and plentiful, and the owners are lovely. I am local to this restaurant and the only problem with this is my wish to eat here all the time. I would recommend it to everyone, regardless of where you live, but book ahead as it is hugely popular for obvious and fully deserved reasons. Before I ate here I didn't particularly like Thai food, despite having eaten it a lot in the past, but this place has changed that for me. And if you already love Thai you will be totally delighted, I am sure. I honestly can't speak highly enough of it. Do yourself a favour.

This is the best Thai food I've had since Thailand! Amazing flavour. :) We had beef with chilli and chicken green curry - both were excellent!

Great food. Buy take away here weekly because the product is fresh and full of flavour. Take away prices are very reasonable.

Eat in prices are ok ($20 main). Service friendly and reasonable (although waiter left spilt food on the table instead of clearing. Not a huge issue though as it is a small family restaurant so it would be unfair to expect same service as a more expensive restaurant)

Food is outstanding. Best Thai around.

Duck curry wonderful. A bit disappointed with grilled squid. Small serve and didn't inspire. Overall 70%

Delicious green curry for me and stir fry beef with veg and cashews for my wife. 2 entrees, 2 mains, roti bread, rice and 3 drinks for $85. Good service & nice atmosphere. Would visit again.

Great Thai by the Yarra. This is the most unassuming of locations for a Thai restaurant that creates some very authentic dishes with style and flair.
The food is full of flavour, beautifully presented and the service is friendly and efficient.
A must visit for locals and visitors alike.
