This is just the most lovely place to come any time of year. Located on the river side of Warrandyte, with an enormous playground that will excite any kid (let alone parents), it’s a must visit if in Warrandyte.
There is a covered shelter for dining outside as well as a large area covered by large umbrellas that offer a lot of cover in the wet but still not 100% dry. Options of food are abundant with croissants, lemon tarts, donuts, pies, sausage rolls and so much more. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate available. The ‘bakery’ is a well known spot for school kids come to after school for a play and a bite to eat before heading off to swimming, Sport practice or wherever.
Dogs are welcome - they are welcome anywhere in Warrandyte. Note the lovely mosaic chair made by local artisans. Plus the old water trough. Access to the river is through the archway and is only 20 metres away.
Beware of snakes here in the warmer months.
Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible. Good parking out the front on Yarra Street as well as a car park down below near playground which you can access via a road only a 20 metres east of the Bakery.

What a top bakery! The bakery has a wide variety of bakery food available and tables and chairs outside. There is a top playground right near the tables for kids to play, plus the Yarra River runs a little below the eating area. It's a perfect to have a walk along the river after eating or having a bakery coffee.

It's also lovely and relaxing and wonderful people having their dogs join them at the outside tables. What fun!

The location is superlative, perched up above the Yarra. It's clearly popular with young families there for the playground and dog owners walking the trail by the river.

There's a bit of a new age vibe going on with signs about connecting with the spiritual power if the river and the like.

I had a plain pie , which was pretty good. The pastry shell was just this side of overdone. Very crisp indeed. The filling (Mince) was properly seasoned and had enough gravy to be moist, without being drop down your shirt material. The puff pastry top was flaky and the colour of dark toffee.

My companions had a cream filled lamington which was thick with jam and cream and a good, properly crisp eclair.

Coffees were strong and rich and the service was geared towards efficiency rather than friendliness.

I imagine it gets very busy on weekends and holidays, but during the week it was a relaxing spot for a snack

I came here with my family today for lunch. We all got the cheese and ricotta rolls, my sister got the lamington (Dad forgot to get the one with cream so she was disappointed), Mum and Dad got the apple slice and I got the flourless orange cake. We all enjoyed our spinach and ricotta rolls and I liked that it wasn't too salty. The flourless orange cake was delicious however a piece of almond from the cake dropped onto my dress and I ate it and it tasted stale. The service was good except for the fact you need to get a receipt from inside to get the coffee outside and a lot of people including my Dad had beepers while waiting for their coffees which got annoying after a while.

How can you come to Warrandyte without coming here for a pie or a loaf of sour dough bread? :-) A lovely place where you can fuel up before or after the walk along the river. Pies are fresh and yummy. They have a great range of wood fire baked bread which we love.

I love this bakery! Really don't understand some if the negative reviews! Curry pie is amazing. Coffee is great - yes you have to wait for it a bit when they are busy... Like anywhere! But they give you a buzzer and you can sit in the park and wait for it. We always take visitors here to impress them and they are always blown away by the food, the service, and the scenery. A great day out.

Coffee too expensive. The setting is potentially good if you can overlook the cigarette butts and the endless parade of dogs. Food is typical bakery. When coffee prices hit $4 18 months ago we stopped going. $4 to sit on daggy furniture placed in tan bark.

The best sausage rolls in Melbourne!!! I don't drink the coffee there because its terrible but the sausage rolls are the best and I love it that you add your own sauce, however much you like!!

Great range of cakes and pies. Try the lemon slice, the flour-less orange cake or the vegie pie. You'll come back for more! Perfect seating and friendly service. Great place for a relaxing afternoon.

Perfect Setting. This humble bakery is a local treasure. The line is always out the door and for good reason. The pies, cakes and pastries are delicious. The wonderful river setting is what brings everyone here and has a real community atmosphere. Love it!

Please ... a decent cup of tea?. I live nearby and like this place, but could they PLEASE, PLEASE learn to make a cup of tea?

Surely this is not a difficult ask ... all you need to do is put a tea bag in boiling water, jiggle it around for a minute or two, then TAKE THE TEABAG OUT BEFORE YOU PUT THE MILK IN PLEASE.

My ten year old can do it - why can't your staff?

If you're a coffee fan, AVOID THE COFFEE HERE at all costs - the Barista was spilling milk everywhere, made my coffee and wasshort about 100 mls so she left it there, went into grab more milk and started cleaning up ... Meanhile my coffee is being left there to cool - when I finally got it it was thin ... Watery ... Certainly not worth it ... Love the pies though! And the atmosphere on a Sunday morning.. !

I'd say the coffee is not a bit ordinary, its a bit hot and thin as a result. A result of too many touros and out of towners causing coffee ques at the cart. There are traffic management issues with people qued up out the doors onto the street to buy pumpkin bread and vego curry pies.

Nevertheless I like my local bakery, the yeast and wheat free bread is really chewy and full of good stuff. The bakery discourages plastic bags in an interesting way, take your bread unsliced, by selling reusable carry bags that suit bread loaves and by packing the sliced bread in heavy duty plastic bags that can be reused at the bakery when you return (and get a kangaroo stamp towards a free loaf !)

The Bakery is a community style business that disappeared in the late '70s and like the Stonehouse Pottery is part of the Warrandyte ethic from those days.

Worth a trip on a Saturday or even during the Warrandyte Festival parade which this coming year is on March 20, 2010.

Touros and Out-of-Towners welcome.

Fantastic bakery. Lots of cakes and hot food. Coffee is really nice and hot. Some of the outdoor tables have leg warming heaters. They are heaven and our Dog loved them too. Busy traffic area but lots of off street parking available in the area. Pleasant walk along the river.

First time going to the iconic Warrandyte Bakery finally and I bought a Banana Blueberry Muffin, which was $3.60. It was quite good, a bit too sugary for my liking and I didn't taste much banana. Staff was nice and friendly and the little indoor bakery and payment area was casual, traditional and cosy. Not many afternoon savoury snack breads when I went at 4.30, but there were pies and sweet baked goods. Nonetheless, I didn't really care about the flavour though because it was more for just an afternoon snack after my Warrandyte River Reserve walk. The outdoor seating area was the best part with a lovely riverside and bushy view. Great seating options for large groups, individuals, families, friends, coffee dates and more.

The pies, cakes and ice latte were delectable and the outdoor seating is lively. Usually pretty busy and there is a kid’s playground too.
