Review The Liebig Cafe&restaurant - Warrnambool

Steven McKinlay (GFleece)
Good food, really good taste and flavours. Food arrived quickly and good service. Nice ambience with background music playing, not to loud. Ginger stir fried pork and garlic pepper beef.

Please forgive the photos, we were famished and almost forgot! The calamari and takoyaki entrees are not gluten free but rave reviews were passed on! The garlic pepper chicken stir-fry was a huge mouthful of yum! The amount of chicken and the flavour was suprising to say the least, and paired with sticky rice, omg. All round we were extremely happy and i highly recommend giving this business a go.

If I could give 6 stars, I would! We had an array of entrees and a prawn/vegetable main in a delectable sauce. All the food was authentic, mouthwatering and the service was caring and quick. Can't wait to come back once we are in Warrnambool again. Thank you for a lovely evening !

I had a dinner with my family. I am happy with all dishes we ordered. I could dine in with my dog because they put a table in front of the restaurant for us. My daughter mentioned Tom yum soup was too sweet. That's why I give them 4.5 stars.🌟

Liebig Cafe had been recommended to us by a local but our experience was disappointing. I ordered takeaway online which was very easy. The meals were ready at the agreed time. The cafe was very busy when I picked up. The seafood Pad Thai had a good amount of tasty seafood but the rest of the dish was rather bland. The beef Massaman curry was a thin consistency although tasty and the beef was good. The price was reasonable. Overall it was an average Thai dining experience.

Cute little restaurant offering a different option amongst lots of pizza or burger places.

Ordered the Pad Thai which was delicious.

Amazing food, friendly staff can’t go wrong.

My score 4 stars. Until recently we lived near Warrnambool for 9 months & ate lunch here at least once a fortnight (apart from 1 month when they were on hols in Thailand). Smiling friendly waiters, water flavoured with orange slices always topped up, never a long wait for food to come out. Best Thai we found in town & they do other Asian food too. Our “go to” entrées were Curry puffs & Salt & pepper calamari – both really good. We also tried Roti w peanut sauce (nice but not enough roti IMO) & Ta Bong – fried pumpkin & kumara w a sweet chilli sauce (ok not heavy exactly, but fairly rich). They do a lunch deal week-days with smaller mains (rice included where appropriate) at lower prices - always enough food for us. We had the full sized mains one week-end & they were (too) big - we rolled out stuffed to the gills (they did warn us)! Order less & share in a group methinks. Curries > Had Red, Green, Panang, Pumpkin multiple times. They were good & less sweet than others in town – not spicy enough for us, so they gave us a small bowl of chopped red chilli each time. Praram > ok - peanut sauce was too sweet IMO. Chilli basil stir fry > tasty, but could have had more basil. Angel prawns > Shredded coconut coating interesting. Fancy tofu > quite nice. They kindly substituted some salad for vegetables when we asked (no extra charge). J’s favs were Japanese fried tofu curry > Large serve - nice salad & miso soup on side. Also Ginger stir fried Tofu & veg > Delicate but fresh, soothing flavours. Mine was Tofu Khao Soi, a "Laksa" from Northern Thailand > Similar to a Malay one, but different enough to be interesting - Thai curry soup base/soup noodles are a thin hokkien size, but curlier & chewier/smoked chilli oil/diced fresh red onion/pickled onion/crispy noodles on top. Note – menu shown above is not up to date & only shows a small proportion of dishes they do. Not sure why the rating isn’t higher – we thought it was great…
Honestly
Probably the only good restaurant in town. Missed Melbourne and this was the only place that had good standard food. I ordered pad Thai takeaway to eat on the train back to Melbourne :)

Excellent food and customer service. Best Thai food in town! I have been here almost everyday for the food since the move to Warrnambool. Nice restaurant!

Very authentic Thai cuisine, similar to what I’ve had in Thailand. Best Thai food in town. Great service with friendly staff. Will definitely come back again.

Above average Thai food in Warrnambool. Service really nice! Food all looks amazing! Slightly above average price but that's normal for Warrnambool Thai restaurants

Service was a five. We arrived at 9:30 at night, were told kitchen would be closed in 10 minutes. But they didn't fail to feed us. The duck pancakes were with tio much sauce inside the wraps, the sauce overpowered the duck, we can barely taste the duck. I ordered pad thai with king prawns, honest portion. However the prawns were lack of seasoning, they were bland but the rice noodles were too sweet. Hubby ordered blackpepper beef stir fry, was not bad according to him. Staffs were very friendly though.
Happy Chappie
Lovely little restaurant with great food and friendly attentive staff, only downside was that the restaurant is quite small which makes it feel crowded

Great value for money. Authentic, yummy Asian cuisine. Friendly, cheerful, helpful service. Just passing through, but we'll be back. Highly recommended.

Nice food and okay service. This little fusion joint in the main strip of Warnambool offers a very large variety of Asian food. It doesn't seem to specialise in any particular type and the menu is a bit all over the place. The service is quite inattentive and apathetic. They have a very small kitchen on display so struggled to keep up with the orders. If I were them I'd limit the menu to fewer choices and ensure staff are friendlier and at least smile!

(Edit: 10 July 2016)
Returned here this week and had a much better meal. Ordered the tofu Bento box and was left completely satisfied. Highly recommend a bento box if you're very hungry, and I have since adjusted my rating after a substantially better visit.

Staff were lovely, polite, and very attentive. Vegetarian Japanese curry was great and had a decent serving size of fluffy rice to it, and the salad on the side had a great sauce on it which I enjoyed, but the veggies on the side were just steamed and bland, and the miso soup was particularly weak. But the staff and good prices made up for that.

Friendly staff, great service, mostly generous portions (unfortunately I managed to order one of the few undersized meals). Many dishes are served with steamed veggies, which are incredibly bland and greatly detract from the dishes they're served with, but otherwise the malls are packed with interesting flavours and textures.

Wow. Such variety and some of the tastiest Asian food in the state! So lucky to have such good quality and inexpensive food down here in Warrnambool! The menu is often changing and there is lots of specials to choose from. Not sure what to order? Ask the friendly staff for a recommendation. The curries are always a hit as is the tempura entree

This is a must go to for all lovers of good food. Service is always good. Staff are friendly and the food always super tasty. Dishes are street food style lots of seafood and perfect for vegan and vegetarians alike.
Audrey
Service was friendly and very attentive which seemed to overcompensate for how poor the food was. The Liebig has great reviews which is what attracted us. Ordered the steamed chicken wontons and fried wontons for entree, then had Thai green chicken curry and Panang curry for mains.
Entrees represented extremes in cooking. Steamed wontons were floury and undercooked and the fried ones had a tiny pea sized ball of overcooked (we think it was chicken) inside while the rest was just fried oily wonton wrapper.
The green curry tasted like salty chicken broth with coconut milk thrown in. The vegetables were barely cooked and thrown in the bowl with a hunk of bamboo shoots on the opposing side. The chicken had the texture of fish and it was by far the weirdest Thai green curry I've ever encountered. Panang was marginally better. We left very disappointed that despite the lovely staff and service, our food was just bad.. And on a busy Friday night!

Delicious as Always!. I absolutely LOVE the Khao Soi here. Really flavoursome and a very generous portion. Great value too, only $10.90 from the lunch specials menu. You can tell the meals are authentic and cooked fresh. This place definitely is the best value in town for lunch and dinner. Very friendly staff too with speedy service regardless of how busy it is. Can't go wrong!

WOW!!!!. I never thought I would experience such authentic Thai food in regional Victoria, but here I am, after an amazing example of food that you would normally only receive in Thailand, waiting for yummy said food to digest, to make room for my own words that I must now ingest!!!!! Yes, this place really has made me eat my words!!! Absolutely sensational!!!

Love it! The atmosphere, the food, the friendly staff!

We tried the Liebig after reading great reviews on urban spoon. After moving back to Warrnambool from Melbourne, we have been looking for great Asian food and we have finally found it! The Liebig did not disappoint, we had a delicious laksa and some grilled pork neck with salad, it was divine. Can not wait to go back with friends!

Food was sensational. My girlfriend and I decided to try the Liebig out for dinner last night. And we were both blown away. The staff were extremely friendly and cheerful. I had the Phuket Calamari, from the moment I took my first bite I was already happy with my choice, and it just got better. By far the best Calamari in warrnambool.

Price was very affordable, our bill came out to just above $40 for the two of us, for our mains and drinks.

All in all, a delightful dining experience in a superb restaurant. 5 stars

Fresh, flavourful and friendly. A spur of the moment decision to book for dinner turned out to be possibly the best decision I'd made all week. That was last night. It was so yummy I'm thinking of heading back today for lunch.

Our first meal in Warnnambool and oh what a meal!!! Found this place thanks to Urban Spoon and I think we've found our little Warrnambool regular! This place is amazing!! The service is fantastic and the food was simply perfect!! Fresh and full of flavour. We'll be coming back here every time we're in Warrnambool for sure! Highly recommended. Oh, and try out the Thai Milk Tea! YUM

Absolutely awesome. We came down to Warrnambool for a day trip, so looked up Urbanspoon for the restaurant with great reviews for lunch. And boy were we impressed!
The staff were amazingly friendly and the restaurant fit out was great.
We ordered the pork belly and the chicken burger, and it was just divine. Tasty, and generous in portion, these guys get all 4 thumbs up from us. Thank you so much!

Wonderful. We ordered the teriyaki chicken and Bombay curry. The chicken was fantastic! The curry was great also. Service was great, the chef is very friendly. Very well priced.

Tasty and great service. We went for dinner and were greeted with a free drink of house wine or sake. We ordered beer battered chips- great crunch- with aioli, Bombay beef curry- scrumptious served with two huge poppadoms, seafood basket with shredded coconut battered prawns- a little too deep fried for my liking but very nice and side salad with sesame oil dressing was refreshing. For dessert we shared the meringue with berries on a friend's recommendation and it was delicious. We were also given tastings of shitake and dumpling soup and then with dessert green tea flavoured coconut cookies and black sesame flavoured coconut cookies. We will be back to try the steaks and the lunch menu.

Very happy customers.. Very welcoming, we like the new decor, the waiting staff were attentive,
freindly and very helpful. Great to see Japanese style of food being introduced to warrnambool. The food was very enjoyable. Looking forward to returning with friends.

Pleasantly surprised. Nice ambience, friendly staff, good menu selection. Chose three Asian dishes, all of which were well presented, and tasted yummy! Will be coming back!

Great dinner experience. The experience started the moment we entered The Liebig, staff greeted us with smiles & showed us to our table and then we where treated to yummy starters, wine, entrée, main meal, sweets, lattés & a special treat sake, very nice. We will return.

Love the steamed chicken. They just open the door for a week, not really expect too much about food.
but they gave me a WOW with the chicken dish. Pineapple rice is very good with this.
Very friendly service and good coffee. Bless them the best of the new business.
Jasmine
