Review Pippies By The Bay - Warrnambool

I had the lobster with chips and salad, mum had the seafood plate. Amazing staff with amazing service and the food was really good. Surprisingly I preferred the Bombay bug on mum's plate and she preferred my lobster! 10/10 would go again but I think I'd get the seafood plate instead I enjoyed trying all the bits on her plate it was good quality food. Get the sticky date pudding if you want to feel like you've gone to heaven. Haha.

Absolutely loved the ombience of the restaurant. The view is beautiful. Staff were all friendly and welcoming. We had a variety of different meals and they were all delicious. Absolutely enjoyed the taste of the sea! Must have if you want a bit of everything. Highly recommended!

Great ambience and lovely views of the ocean. I ordered the Chef's special Crayfish dish, and it was delicious. Will come again when I visit Warrnambool.

WOW This restaurant was beyond my expectations. The atmosphere is fresh clean and modern with indoor and out door seating. The freindly staff were very professional and on point with their service. The scenery looking out over the ocean breathtaking and the food OMG amazing flavours that just melted with every bite. A great menu variety and price range is very reasonable. Bookings are best in advance as Pippies is a very popular restaurant. I will definitely be returning again and I have to say a true new favourite 10/10. Do yourself a favour and indulge in a great dinning experience at Pippies.

Lunch 20/11/21! Young friendly staff were so kind and lovely! They were so good with their Covid compliance which makes me feel really good about supporting them and know they are doing the right thing for the region and all their patrons! The seafood was some of the best I have ever had and the atmosphere was great too! Thanks to the waitress who suggested a lovely bottle of sav which really made for a great lunch. The spring rolls weren’t anything special but everything else was delicious! - Pippies Fish Platter - Scallops wrapped in prosciutto - Oysters Kilpatrick - Vegetarian Spring Rolls

Food is averagely good but the serving speed is really concerning us - waited 30 mins for the main courses after entrée finishing and no waiters checking on the table. We were sitting outside but there’s no reason for the FOH not checking the customers out there. Besides, experience was relatively good and would recommend if the FOH team could get more professional training.

Came to Pippies by the Bay for something different and the guys were looking to have fish/seafood for dinner.

Pippies by the Bay had exactly that.
I purchased the Prawn and Crab tortellini for entree. I found the entree to be pretty basic. Couldn’t taste any crab in the dish.

I ordered the seafood dish which made up for the basic entree. Fresh, tasty, large portion and all for a reasonable price.

Certainly be back for the seafood platter again.

The staff were lovely and the service was good. The food was okay - the abalone was over cooked. There was also an absence of flavour which made the meal fairly bland. I would rather have a simple meal packed with flavour than something a bit more fancy with no flavour.

My partner and I went on a holiday over the Easter break and we booked in for dinner one night while we were in the area. As a regular traveler my partner always likes to look at the reviews of a place prior to attending to understand if she will like the place or not. Unfortunately in the case of Pippies the reviews are not as good as they should have been. The food was absolutely lovely and the service was a great experience. We had the surf and turf, some amazing abalone and vegies. This was an amazing meal with a lovely view of the light show at the heritage village. I will be happy to return for another meal on my next trip through the area.

Pippies actually has an extensive lunch menu but we were only interested in a light lunch. It's a very pleasant restaurant, the staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed some calamari and a seafood crepe. While the meals were tasty it was not outstanding food. We enjoyed the meal but next time we are in Warrnambool we'll look at other options.

Nice view. In here you can see the old small town and know the original of Warrnambool and also the ocean view. The food was real amazing. seafood player are very fresh and ample of seafood range. the staff here are very nice and friendly.
Honestly
Realllly nice view when you eat outside. Food was nice, filled me up really quick. I liked the fish, it was so fresh. I’d recommend to others, although a bit pricey.

OMG, it’s like stepping back in time to Fawlty Towers. We were seated in a lovely window table overlooking the water. As we tried to place our order we were told we would have to wait for another table to be served. As we hadn’t booked we were apparently “off the street.” Back of the queue for you!!! Restaurant was only 1/3 full. Other table of around 10 were not even close to placing an order... Off we popped... Not going to put up with arrogant service. Having a lovely dinner at Liebig now.

We had the perfect table to view the sunset over the bay and the service was very good at all times. I was not feeling too well so we decided to order the seafood platter and share. The dish was extremely generous and very happy that we shared as it would have been too much for one. The oyster was magnificent, as was the bug and the fresh prawns. The beer battered fish was fresh, juicy and delicious. The crumbed and fried calamari was cooked to perfection. Crumbed and Fried prawns also good. Seafood at its best. Chips were crisp and fresh. The only criticism, would be that maybe one element, maybe the calamari could be panfried, to cut down on all the fried components. Mind you the waiter did offer, if we wanted the fish to be grilled. But how can you resist beer battered fresh fish. The Limestone Shiraz was magnificent. So smooth. Well done.

Lovely inviting view! Perfect place to watch the sunset over the beach... unfortunately that's where it ends.
Abrasive arrogant service and slack uninspiring menu options ( think cheapo bar and bistro pub on the corner meals) and certainly the wine list was most unimpressive. I asked for a fresh glass of wine as last time I was served an old wine that had started to oxidise but was refused. "we are not going to open a bottle just for you" the waitress explained. I left. I'd rather give my money to a business who deserves it. Won't be going back there again because the service was very unfriendly.

Nice view over the Flagstaff Hill Maritime Museum. Unfortunately we went on a rainy, windy over-cast day, but that didn't dampen the mood. Lovely restaurant, which slowly filled over the course of the evening.
The service staff and manager were somewhat attentive, though slightly rough around the edges.
The food was beautifully present and the starters we got were delicious - the tasting plate for two (scallops were amazing), and tempura oysters. The mains were variable, I had the 250g Rib Eye ($36.0) which was cooked to perfection, tender but a lot of the flavour was in the jus. The Fish Platter ($39.5) looks amazing, with a nice range of fish and chips - however the Morton Bay Bug is tasteless, the flake tasted strongly of a chemical ammonia flavour and the prawns were hard and overlooked. The buttered scallop and chips were the best part of the platter. The Roasted Barramundi Fillet ($34.0) was good, with very tender fish and nicely flavoured risotto as the base.
Overall, I would try Pippis, but some would find fault in such a high price point.

Went for lunch one Sunday. There is two entries. One via the main door and one through the Information centre.

The service was rather opportunistic but the tables were cleaned regularly. It was warm inside, but probably freezing outside. The view is okay.

We had a coffee and an iced coffee which were okay but I think they got the order a little confused, so get them to read it back, especially if you make an alteration.

The food was good, though the House Made Baked Beans with Chorizo was a little spot the Chorizo! The pancakes with chocolate, pear and hazelnuts were reported as being good, and they seemed to be fluffy. The food was fine, on a par with other places in Warrnambool and the area is nicer than some of the competition, so I would go back to Pippies over some of the other cafes.

We had a very similar experience to the other reviewers here. Initially we were attracted to the nice location and hoped the prices on the menu promised a proportionate experience. The kitchen did present good food, however the standard of service was well below what one would expect for a competent operation. I suspect we had the same two staff mentioned in these reviews- the flusterd busy-walker (who at one point actually ran through the restauant with a outward pointing knife and lime to the bar) and the very easily confused barkeep. We were not given menus and had to hail them down. Don't be fooled by the extensive cocktail list either. After a good amount of time my partner was informed they could not make her Cosmopolitain and gave her my cocktail instead. I ordered the same and had to wait another deal of time only to have the final bill tallied up erroneously- we had been charged for a non-existant 'Toblerone'. This place has to lift its game - scimping on staff and service is a big alarm bell.

Not the best experience. My husbands rib eye steak was well done, not medium as ordered. We sat with empty glasses after finishing our first drink and had to catch someones attention to get more. Noone approached us during the meal to see how things were nor were we asked how everything was when the plates were cleared. We weren't offered the dessert menu or extra drinks. We sat for another 15 mins after our meal with no service. In the end I had to go up to the bar to pay. This was meant to be a treat for us but we left disappointed and without the dessert and extra drinks we had wanted. Wouldn't go back.

Well done pippies owner and staff great food great service ... 10 out of ten ... Just very nice food very nice people and excellent service ... They understand that effort will produce outstanding results

Moody waitress, lots of tables uncleared and the food was pretty bad as well. My husband ordered a beef and mushroom pie and got a curried lamb pie. I ordered vanilla ice cream with a homemade chocolate sauce for my little one and it was clearly artificial syrup out of a bottle. Very disappointing end to a nice visit to the maritime museum.

This 2 Oct 15, my daughter, my wife and myself went for dinner at the Pipies Restaurant in Warrnambool. WORST EXERIENCE ever. DO NOT GO THERE. Actually Maccas would have been a much better option. First as we were to spend the night in the area we went to that restaurant. It was 5.00 pm , first the Lady in charged wanted to look busy while the place was dead empty. We told her that we wanted to dine and she said. The restaurant opens at 6.00 pm. Do you have a booking and we said no as we did not have one. She said how many people 3 . I can fit you in the right end corner because the restaurant is full tonight. She then asked us if we happy to wait on the terrace and have a drink in the mean time, which we agreed to. Two cider on the tap and a crown lager. At 5.45 pm she came to pick our order. We took Eye rib and half a cray fish, Fish platter, a Duck a l'orange. The dishes came at 6.45 an hour after we ordered. Any way the duck was rubbery, tasteless, lack of seasoning, what a shame to that bird. The fish platter, apart from the chips that tasted ok everything else was boring and the batter tasted an old deep fried oil. The eye rid supposed to be medium rare look charcoal grilled, pitch black donut like size and the crayfish as tinny as the size of one finger. ALL THIS CRAP FOR $152.00
We should be aĺlowed to pay only it is worth it, not the other way round.. Unless a drastic change, in the way of treating people, a bite of love in food preparation and better customer service I do not find much ahead for this restaurant. Oh by the way we left at 7.00 pm and there was no more than two tables of 4 people. Not fully booked as she stated when we arrived.

To be honest we didn’t spend long at Pippies By the Bay. The waitress seemed confused when I came in, asked for a hot chocolate, drank it while typing (it was good), paid and left. I came into Pippies just before leaving because I had to warm up and tell you about our incredible morning in Warrnambool.

Bad coffee. Waited 40 minutes for a coffee and it wasn't that busy. The staff were extremely rude and couldn't have cared less. The coffee was horrible and barely drinkable.

Delicious food and a wonderful host in the owner

Best food in town!. We were in Warrnambool for Easter long weekend, we went to many different restaurants, most were below average so you can imagine our surprise when we went to Pippies and had an amazing meal.
Everything was Fresh and tasty and the service was outstanding.
Must try :-)))

A great venue, but the food and service fail to match up. Our party of 6 had a mix of mains and entrees. The entrees, the abalone in particular, were good, but the mains were pretty low on taste. Hefty serves but no means culinary delights. The staff were kind, but clearly inexperienced and with a very casual attitude. Again, no problems, but the service, like the food, is not matching the prices charged.

Very poor. Hopefully the new owners help this place. Last time i went was the worst dinner I had eaten in years.

Has slipped. Three years ago, when we came to town Pippies was _the_ go to place for fine dining. Unfortunatly, standards have slipped significantly in this time. Our most recent visit (after a long time on the banned list, due to some dodgy meals), The entree of chicken was tough, to the point of being inedible, and the fish dishes were somewhere past it's prime. (With the subsequent upset tummies the next day)
Back on the list of places we don't visit....

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Fast service. Great views.

Avoid Spiced chicken salad. chicken so dry more like jerky if you can chew. Seafood platter stops at looking good. saw rib eye steak. I suspect better taste and value than seafood platter!

We just had a very disappointing Fathers Day breakfast experience @ Pippies. The service was truly appalling & the food just passable. We've been having breakfast @ Pippies for years but that will be the last time. Very, very disappointing.

Yuck. For such a high rated restaurant it has really lowered it standards! where are the table cloths? and vegetarian option....seriously having the same 1 option or entree gluggy risotto for how many years, completely bores me! i cringe when people suggest we go there because of the vege option

The food is consistently well prepared and very good. The views are fantastic.
