Review Emperor's House - Warrnambool

Lyn Rogers
My sister and I decided last minute to eat out and found our self here at the Emperors House. Traditional to Chinese there were beautiful lanterns art work and statues. The staff were lovely and the food tasted great. A very busy restaurant with both take away and in house dinning. I do have a few grumbles sadly. we hadn't finished our entrees and they were placing our main meals on the table. Which made us feel rushed. The amenities were in need of some serious attention.

Average at best. The food was hot and fresh and good quality chicken was used which I think is hard to find at a Chinese restaurant but that’s where the compliments stop. The food was bland - we ordered a special friend rice that was anything but special. It was grey and had absolutely no flavour or substance to it. I ordered honey chicken and I’m still not convinced that’s what they served me. It tasted nothing like honey but the flavour was so minimal it was hard to pin point what I was eating and the sauce was pink (see photo). Prawn crackers were stale and the wine was cheap and not very pleasant. My husband had the sweet and sour chicken and said it was nice but he’s pretty easy to please I guess.

Lovely staff, terrible food. Bland tasteless, cheap nasty products used. Recipes altered for no apparent reason. Sickly-sweet lemon sauce; "satay sauce" that looked and tasted like salty gravy and old tough textured, foul tasting beef used plus large chunky pineapple added for no reasonable reason

First time trying. Is now my favourite Chinese restaurant in Warrnambool. I got honey chicken and it was so yum! Yes the sauce is pink which is weird but whatever, so yum. The chicken wasn’t dry like all the other Chinese places I have tried!! Amazing food. 👏🏼👍🏼

Great food, great service and great atmosphere. The only thing better then the food is the service. April always goes out of her way to make sure your dining experience is incredible.

Food was late. Cold. And when approached regarding my complaint they were Rude, unhelpful, and just passed the phone around from person to person. Considering I needed to reheat the food. I wont be bothered to return. There are better Asian restaurants in Warrnambool!

First my order was wrong sweet and sour chicken instead of lemon chicken ate any as had driven home average at best the beef and black bean uneatable tasted like beef and gravy no authenticity at all cant believe you are in business will never try again

Ordered spare ribs got pork chops. Staff friendly but not advising re they actually had no ribs is to me not good. As pork chops were also on the menu if I had wanted them I would have ordered them. They were gracious enough not to charge for the the wrong dish which is a plus in their favour.

We were traveling and spent the night in Warrnambool last night and our favourite food is Chinese so we decided to get takeaway from your shop. I must say it was absolutely beautiful and we would highly recommend it to anyone we know travelling to Warrnambool. We would love to try your dine in next time. Thanks for the beautiful meal 😂

Food 4/5
service 5/5
environment 4/5

The best Chinese restaurant in remote area even better than some in Melbourne. If you compared with the popular restaurant In Big city, you could disappoint. But as a Chinese, I am happy with this one after The great ocean road all day tour. Hot dishes satisfy my stomach. Strongly recommend the garlics prawn, Cantonese Steak and BBQ Duck. The waitress said that such cook every day because they have a real Chinese style BBQ Stove. And the service is best and then can speak Chinese too.

Delicious food in a great environment. Not like an average Chinese restaurant that you normally find. Food was reasonable priced and portioned. Flavorsome and we were so full and left with happy tummy. Waitresses were friendly and professional. Glad we found this place!

Food was nice. Had a hair in my spring rolls, which is fine they replaced it. However it would've been nice if they had given us the spring rolls for free. Only $3.50 but it's the principle. Enjoyable night otherwise

Had the nicest lady take our order and deliver the food to our resort. It's a big place and difficult to find our reception, but she was so lovely and even text afterward to say sorry for not finding is straight away and she hoped we enjoyed our meal. Can't beat such great customer service and kind, friendly attitude.

Good swift service and meals came in good time. Food was good, however a little pricey. Overall a good experience.

Had the honey chicken which was nice, great and large dim sims and satay chicken. The satay wasn't great, lacking texture and taste. Leave that to the Thai.

Thumb up: one of the biggest restaurant in town. Good variety of food in menu. Runs dishes of the day frequently. Very Chinese taste.
Thumb down: some dishes were overpriced. Better to come with a few people. Would be expensive if dine in with 1 - 2 people.
LOVE FOOD
The menu on this website is incorrect !!. The menu was added three years ago, now they have already changed the menu, meal size and the price.

Not worth your time. This restaurant was recommended by our accommodation concierage. food was tasteless, over priced and took ages to wave down the only two waitresses in the restaurant. we ended up at KFC to fufil our hunger.

We came across this restaurant by chance and what a lucky chance it was! We had a delicious banquet for 2. The food was absolutely delicious, fresh and memorable! The service was impeccable and we cannot wait to return and enjoy once more.

It was great to find Emperors house served gluten free Chinese. We had 2 meals there and both were great enjoyed by all of us. Keep up the good work.

Probably could have served up a better meal of supermarket freezer yum cha myself. Terrible food, overpriced. Service average.

Pretty basic yum cha menu and average dumplings - service was pleasant though

Birthday Lunch. A friend booked this place for 8 people for my birthday (25th April 2013). After reading the reviews she asked if she should cancel. I said we would go with an 'open mind.' I am very glad we went. They were a little bit slow in taking our orders and I made it worse by trying to order in very poor Chinese with the help of a phone app. We all ordered entree and mains. No complaints from our table! The meals were plentiful and the service was good. The prices were also very reasonable. Having been to China on 4 occasions, I am very fussy when it comes to Chinese food and I was suitably impressed. I would certainly go back again and probably will!!

Very average. The atmosphere is very dull and boring, and so are most if the staff. Food is same, overall 40/100

The big Con. Looking for an evening meal. The sandwich board outside lists menu items with very reasonable prices, go inside and the menu is 50-100% more expensive. The sandwich board has the lunch/ yum cha menu pricing. It got us in but we left immediately the con was exposed, not so easy to leave with a large group, so beware.

Not good and over priced, do not order the crab roll.
It's just a crab stick in batter I could not believe my eyes.
Only saving grace is their staff except the chef who should get a job in a fish n chip shop.

Inedible. Yum Cha FAIL!!. I just cannot understand the reviews below that describe the Yum Cha at this restaurant favourably. Thick, claggy dumpling skins with fillings that were unidentifiable save for the prawn and chive as they contained whole small prawns, undercooked. Pork as well as the chicken dumplings were absent of any flavour aside for steamed meat and what reminded us oddly of lawn clippings (certainly wasn't chive). The chicken satay sticks we ordered for our daughter tasted like seafood extender and dishwashing liquid. Fried won tons were thick and oily rather than fine and crispy, with filling the size of a pea that tasted like pureed chico roll meat (but not that good!). Service was slow and the tea cold & insipid. We're a tough crowd for dumplings, I'll admit, but this food was just disgraceful. If you enjoy your Yum Cha give this place a wide berth.

The only thing served hot was the Chinese tea. Disappointing.

The restaurant number is 55623714. The one on the website is incorrect.

Excellent Yum Cha. We enjoyed lovely Yum Cha....lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice with chicken - fabulous smokey flavor from the leaf and very obviously home made with passion. Our dumplings were excellent - fine, transparent texture and bursting with flavour - the prawn and chives were my personal favorite. And so reasonably priced - for the quaility would pay double in Melbourne.

Just awful. My fiancée and I were very excited about this place opening up. When we finally visited we ordered the Yum Cha. The trolley came around and we chose 5 things - all barely warm. It made me wonder how long it had been sitting in the kitchen on the trolley. Scary too, as some if it was seafood. We are 1 thing from each steam basket we'd ordered then got up to leave. Upon paying, I complained that the food was cold and I wasn't happy, only to rexeive the reply of "oh, so sorry - $45.50 thanks". I will NEVER go back. I guess it'll be closed within a year.
