I think depends on the time you are visiting the place. It's a very small cafe and the tables are very cramped together. But the food is great, especially the savoury tarts. The lady behind the counter made the best recommendation since i couldn't make up my mind, with matching herbal tea, which I enjoyed very much, will definitely come here more since I am a local :)

Found this little cafe on a recent trip south and wandered in not expecting to walk out so blown away. Yes its small, but the food and coffee was to die for at excellent prices. Would recommend bigger premises but otherwise, keep doing what you're doing!!
Great coffee and breakfast place. The smashed avo is delicious. So is the veggie breaky and toasted sandwiches. Syrup is always excellent!
Syrup is a great place for a coffee . Their toasted sandwiches are the best on the area
The staff at Syrup are lovely. It's my weekly social coffee place after Yoga at Watsonia Neighbourhood House. I love the smooth coffee flavours and the breakie is lovely.
Definitely our Fave <3 Best food and best service! Wish they were 24 hours! :D
Fantastic customer service, the staff always have a smile, and the food and coffee is delicious!
Great food & great value. Love the place
awesome meal :) awesome people plz go and check out there lunch meals
love the coffee, service with a smile and The Rueben is delicious...
Great coffee, and I love the pumpkin, feta and caramelised onion tarts, very yummy.
Great meals. Plenty of choice. Will be back
Love going here for their melts and chai latte. Such a cosy atmosphere and the food is comfort food. Just as I have done in the past, I will keep coming back.
Wonderful service and delicious food. They forgot my tea and were very kind and apologetic about it. Going to a cafe with a toddler can be hard but they were very sweet to my young niece I had with me. I'm not in the area very often but when I am, I'll definitely be bringing my service here.
The Reuben is to die for! Very chilled and welcoming place with super friendly staff! My partners coffee was excellent as was my hot chocolate - not often you get a place that nails both! Would recommend to anyone :)
the coffee was quite mediocre also one dollar is quite expensive for soy when the usual surcharge is 40-50¢ at most cafes. It is quite a cute little spot and am yet to try any food there other than the fresh muffins which were hard upon arrival despite asking for them to be heated.

10/10 for everything especially coffee! The best gourmet toasties in the North, fresh and full of flavour. The Reuben is spectacular and highly addictive, I can guarantee you will return to this little gem after one try. Staff are super friendly and coffee is perfect! Cannot rate this place high enough.
A delightful suburban cafe. It's only small but The staff are friendly and on my last visit remembered my regular coffee. Dine in or out on the path on their quirky rustic settings. The coffee is normally made pretty quick when I order one to go but comes out superb. I hear the Rueben is the best in town. Edit 11May, got lunch and decided to eat I'm and get that Rueben, I wasn't disappointed! Fabulous combination of flavours. I've upped my rating.
The coffee and food are great and priced well. The place is small which means sometimes there are no seats available when we get there. The sandwiches for lunch are delicious.
I've been here many times and the quality, value and service is outstanding.
Delicious sandwiches and hearty cooked breakfasts make this a must - nothing quite like it around!
Visited the cozy and quaint cafe 4 weeks ago and had the most AMAZING eggs Bene, the hollandaise was delicious.
Also ordered a side of the homemade beans so tasty and generous portions.
The coffee was great!!!! I ordered a second immediately. Highly recommend
Came here more than a month ago. Coffee is good: sandwiches are nothing too special. We ordered the Reuben and the Crunchy Boy - I felt the corned beef in the Reuben was a bit dry but the Crunchy Boy had some good flavours.
Having been visited this small cafe for morning coffee for a while. This morning hubby and I decided to come in for brekkey. He ordered the Club sandwich and I had the Reuben. Oh my. They were just like heaven. So freaking good. Coffee was as good as usual too. Very happy weekend brekkey.
Great coffee! Sandwiches really good! Other food can be a little hit and miss but better than most other things on offer in the area. One of my favourite haunts as very friendly staff too!
I could probably throw a rock from my front door to this café, but until today I'd never been. Boy do I regret not coming sooner. Their avocado smash is the culinary equivalent of a happy ending massage - honestly I just want to put my whole face in it. My partner had the Reuben toastie and looked like an abandoned child when there was none left. And the coffee - oh man... the coffee I had could cure erectile disfunction. Plus the waitress was cheerful and lovely. It was very busy but our food still came out piping hot in good time. Definitely getting my pre-shift coffees from here from now on!
I have been here twice now and have loved it every time. The coffee is fantastic, the food is just as great and service is fantastic! Looks great inside and out! It's a gem in the north!
A Reuben Toastie & Smooth Coffee
This quaint and unassuming establishment may even go unnoticed in Watsonia but they stick to what they know and they deliver the goods.
Pros
-Best coffee in the suburb by a country mile
-Cheap & Affordable
-Small but tasty menu
Cons
-Can get crowded easily
-Menu could be more extensive
-Not the greatest layout inside to give it that warm atmosphere.

We knew about Syrup but never went because, well, because we didn't think it'd be any different to the normal sorta standard cafe you'd find in Watsonia. But a lovely friend recommended we meet up there, and much to our surprise when we walked in - it's bucked the trend of its neighbors by being a little hip 'n' cool (and busy) cafe. Cute trendy fit-out squeezed into teeny tiny dining area. But who cares about rubbing elbows when they serve up solidly good coffees and tasty sandwiches. Hubby bear got the Crunchy Boy, which was toasted leg ham, dill pickles and very flavorsome - but waaaay not enough to fill his tummy! I got the Vegie Melt, which had little surprises of spiciness and marinated veg hidden under the melted cheese, but again, serving size was a tad too small for me. Perhaps Watsonians are light eaters? Lol! No matter, when we go back, we'll just need to double our order!
Amazing! My favourite is the avocado smash! completely delicious! The coffee is always delicious. The staff are always so friendly and helpful! All round a gorgeous little cafe with a great feel and great food! Very affordable and very fresh!
i love the casual and friendly 'order at the counter' type environment, which leaves the cafe with a relaxed vibe and a hum of un-interupted conversation between patrons. Simply a gorgeous place to go which encompasses the Melbourne cafe scene.
About time a local Cafe knows exactly what they are doing!!!! It really amazes me how much people can whinge regarding "pricey coffee" or "small space".... Really? What more do these people expect? This review is being written purely because I am shocked on how many people can criticise a family run café & make the statement "never returning"...... All because you were not impressed by something so irrelevant you had to make a "doesn't like it" review. Makes me giggle.
Best coffee I've ever had in Melbourne, female Barista is extremely talented and completely made my coffee experience and addiction grow! I will never pay for another coffee again else where. As for the food... From the eggs, to the bread used and fresh produce used- I can highly recommend this Cafe above any other that I have ever been to in the last 12 months. Cosy, Bright and welcoming feel... Exactly what I need every morning before I start work!!!! Try it out, you will not be disappointed!!!!! #syrupismyfavouritecafe
Yours sincerely, very happy Customer!!!
Fab food and coffee.. Sensational food and coffee with great service. I'm working my way through the breakfast menu at the moment. Tough work but someone's gotta do it.
Come from Northcote to meet up with friends here. I absolutely love this place, one of my favourites in Melbourne. Coffee is always spot on! Never change, you're absolutely perfect the way you are.
Coffee. Delicious flat white this weekend. thanks syrup!
I must say this place is extremely welcoming. The staff are fantastic and food to die for. Finally a good coffee in watsonia. Place is very small however wait for a table is not too long. Just hard for the staff when you can see them trying to deal with people who sit for hours taking up space with take always. You have to feel for them having worked in the industry once upon a time. Syrup is a must
Great cafe - home made food, fab coffee - must visit
Perfect cosy corner!. Great coffee, great food, great service!!!! Love this little place!
I really love this cafe. We are fairly new to the area and this is our fave. However, my only issue is that they are often closed!
The best soy latte I have had in a while. Service with a smile, we'll worth a try.
Good. We just moved into the area, walked past it a few times, thought we might give it a go.
The inside is nicely decorated, they've done their best with the inside, shame its not on the eastern side or northern side of the building as its a breakfast place.
Better than the other café up the road.
Great little cafe, new to the menu was the corn fritters. Wow they were good!! Coffee was spot on. Will be going back soon!
Best sandwiches we've ever had!!! Gotta try the Reuben and The Club- so yummy. Great quality ingredients, cute little cafe with very friendly owners. Defo worth a pop in if you're in the area
Delicious little cafe. Awesome food and perfect latte!!!
Quality coffee, indeed!. This charming little cafe is the very first and last place you should visit when supplementing your taste bud to the quintessential morning or afternoon cup of coffee.
I've lived in Greensborough for many years and to get quality coffee in the past, I would travel to Thornbury/Northcote.
As a lover of quality coffee, no cafe throughout Bundoora, Greensborough, Eltham area has, unfortunately been able to produce quality coffee.
My compliments ladies!
Nice coffee, nice cakes, friendly staff.
Popped in with a client this morning for much needed coffee after driving by and doing a double-take. My long black was superb as it could have been in a take-away paper cup and the client's hot choc was a hit too.
Definitely keen to try it out for lunch sometime in the near future!
First Visit for morning tea. Cafe busy this day Wednesday just after 10am on a wet day.
3 of us enjoyed Hot Chocolate, very yummy. Also warm scones served with a small tub of jam and another of fresh whipped cream. Very Nice and Price very reasonable,
Cafe is bright, quiet small, friendly service.
Breakfast Menu looked nice only on Saturday.
Beautiful little cafe with a cozy atmosphere, friendly service and freshly cooked delicious good. Avo smash, breakfast in a bun and the tarts were all fantastic!!
Quaint cafe. Cute cafe, delicious food, yummy coffee, friendly owners.
Had Syrups version of a Croque-Monsieur toasted sandwich and it was delicious. Looking forward to returning to try their Rueben sandwich. Partner enjoyed one of their home made tarts. Syrup is a great new addition to the Watsonia strip of shops.
Fantastic coffee, amazing rustic food. Try the ruben it's delish.
Lovely friendly service.
Fantastic little cafe!. Very few decent cafes out this way but this place is a gem. Coffee is excellent and the lunch menu is interesting enough to want to come back and try everything at least once. Service is friendly but relaxed.
I understand this cute little café is a casual eatery and the owners are quite approachable and friendly, but I found it a bit uncomfortable to be told to have to call one of the workers when we were ready to order, and then asked to call out our order across the café as our order was taken by the lady who continued to remain behind the counter.
Cozy little cafe just off the main street of Watsonia. The coffee is excellent, the brands they use make a great cup. Breakfast options are pretty standard, but good quality. The toasted sandwiches are something a little different, I had the Reuben, a New York style sandwich, and it was fantastic. Staff are very friendly. Nice little spot.
Great service, good food and a quantity coffee blend locally in Watsonia shops. Pleasant outdoor seating area too off the main road. Highly recommended. Best to use these local small businesses, else we loose them !!!
Such a surprise in the urban retail centre of Watsonia. Tucked down a side Avenue. Near the RSL. My 3rd visit here. SYRYP Cafe maintains a quality that invites you back. The gentle arty decor, relaxed atmosphere. Everything about this small well run enterprise is solidly good. It's a popular local eatery. The staff, are courteous, friendly. The menu simple with a gourmet touch and plentiful serves. Perfectly crafted meltingly delicious crisply toasted sandwich varieties to please. Both breakfast and lunch meals or snacks with home baked muffins and more to try . Nice casual feel. seating inside and out. With a name like *Syrup* you can't go wrong! Thank you I highly recommend this tasty oasis.
Love this little Cafe tucked around the corner in Watsonia. Slightly off the beaten track, and so the service is much quicker than the popular A-Team Kitchen, but the coffee is just as good. Features a delicious comprehensive breakfasmenu cooked by a skilled in-house chef. The Cafe is family run and this is reflected in the friendly and welcoming service, and a long list of regulars! The owner is also community minded and donates coffee grounds to local veggie gardens. Locals know this is the spot to go for a sit in meal out of the fast lane, or a takeaway brekkie burger or toastie between errands. Prices are really reasonable and you always leave happy & satisfied.
Beautiful little café hidden away in the side streets of Watsonia, the coffee and food there are just divine. In combination with their food the customer service is spot and the staff are extremely friendly!! I totally recommend giving this place a try if you are in the area.
Forgot to take a photo with my Reuben Sandwiches. Nice food and coffee there. As I live nearby, this will be one of my favorite choice in the future.
Ordered a big breakfast here, price is a bit cheaper than other big breakfasts you can find closer to the city. Enjoyed the sausage included, and the beans were good too. Chill vibe and the specials on offer sounded great as well, nice place 👍
