The BEST Indian food in Perth! Cheese Naan just melts in your mouth and the Palak Paneer the best I have ever had. Really authentic flavours. I have tried other Indian Restaurants in Perth but always come back to Shalimar. Value for money and delicious food.
Tried the local curry place. Was on my list for a while had Chicken Tikka masala and lamb korma and both were good with garlic naan. Definitely will be back to try other menu items.
Best butter chicken I’ve had in perth and I’ve tried a lot! All their curries are super tasty and authentic. The samosas are also excellent.
Love this little restaurant. Delicious, tasty curries and breads. We have dined there twice now and will be taking some friends with us when we return.
Reliable local Indian Restaurant
We got takeaway from here. Ordered Onion Bhajis, Butter Chicken - normal and spicy, Dal and Biryani. The butter chicken was tasty and was made to order and have to admit the attention to detail was amazing considering the specifications to make butter chicken and the biryani was quite yummy. The food was fantastic. Great service, good size portions and very good food!
Whoa! This Place rocks!. The flavor of their Dishes are just out of this world!!! There is NO Indian Restaurant In Perth which even comes close to the Class and Flavor Of the Shalimar. Their Butter Chicken Is a true masterpiece,The Chicken Tikka is On Point, The Onion Bhaji is really nice and their Garlic/Butter Naan is The Bomb. The Waitress was very friendly and provided great service. This IS the INDIAN food you've been looking for 🤙✌🖒🖒🖒
Easily Perth's most delicious Indian food… but the table service is INCREDIBLY SLOW. I have been going there for about 8+ years. The food is consistently superb but booking a table to dine-in is frustrating - you see 1,000 takeaways being ordered and collected, while squandering your own life sitting at one of their (too brightly lit) tables. I recommend ordering takeaway and avoiding the angst. Which is a pity because their renovation is quite nice...it's a shame they're so popular because it would be lovely to sit and enjoy the food there if I thought I had at least 2 hours to dedicate to the task...
The best hydrabadi chicken biryani in Perth. Take away preferred, since it's a small place. Recently moved to this area and accidentally found this restaurant. Good size portions.
YUM!!! Head and shoulders above most other curry places in Perth (and I've been to many). Not your usual curry which tastes exactly the same as the next, you can tell care and attention has gone into ensuring the spices have been properly toasted beforehand. Naan breads are also delicious, nice and crispy! Portions are generous and staff are friendly. I can't wait to try the other curries on the menu. Would highly recommend the beef madras!
The only Indian restaurant that I will ever go to. The rest pale in comparison! The butter chicken is an 11/10 - always spot on and consistent in taste, it's amazing. The naan bread is nice as well. If ordering in get the mango lassee, super yummy. I usually get takeaway as it's a much faster turnaround. I like that they do specials on Monday and Tuesday's. Overall best curry in town.
Update 16/01/2017
Can I just re -review this place because it's so bloody amazing! Hands down best Indian in Perth. Honestly don't even bother looking at the other Indians because they will not come close. This place is consistent in delivering quality food, every time you order!!!! Samosa's are lovely, just a bit hot for me. This place should be at least a 4.3 rating. Go!!!
My go-to Indian in the western suburbs, for dine in or take-away. British-style Indian curries, great peshwari naan, large portions. We usually order vindaloo (lamb or prawn or vegetable) and chicken jalfrezi, so can't comment on the rest of the menu. I will say that the toilet set-up is a bit odd as you have to walk through the kitchen, so maybe hold that thought! BYOB if you dine-in. Usual expensive Perth prices.
Smallish place, plain interior, big plates on the table when you sit down. But the real story is lovely food and great value.
A work colleague of my wife recommended this place. We'd never been in spite of living nearby for several years. Interestingly we had been to another Indian place nearby (Varq) which wasn't as nice and cost 30% more.
The tandoori chicken was tender and succulent, onion bhajis were tasty deep fried goodness, lamb korma was creamy, garlic naans were delicious. Enjoyed it all. We will be visiting Shalimar again.
Really tasty with full flavour. Certainly a win for takeaway, however a dine in experience is intimate and friendly. Definitely try the Chicken Tikka Massala! 😉
I got takeaway from here on Saturday evening to share with friends. Delicious as usual!!! I have now got them hooked on it being their new Indian restaurant :)
The BEST Indian food ever! I can't even remember having Indian food this good. Definitely try the Beef Madras and Tandoori Chicken. Great job to all the lovely and friendly staff. Truly an urban gem :-).
Very tasty! One of the best Indian cuisines I've ever had. Thumbs up! Picked the Wednesday special and had enough food to bring home for lunch the day after 👍🏼
Beyond Expectaions. We recently entertained a group of 17 in our home with takeaway from The Royal Shalimar. The help and guidance from the staff was exceptional only to be exceeded by the quality of the food. We chose Vegetarian Samosas, Lamb Rogan Ghosh, Goan Fish, Daal Masala and Pavlou Rice. The food here has always been very reliable, we will be back again and again.

Surprisingly good suburban Indian. We tried the New Shalimar for a Wednesday night meal with friends.
We've previously been disappointed with the quality of Perth Indian food, but were surprised at the more authentic style of curries they served. There was a good selection of both meat and vegetarian choices and they were all a natural colour rather than the artificial bright colours of some Indian restaurants. None were excessively oily either.
They have some midweek special offers, but we didn't think they were much of a saving or adventurous as we wanted to be more interesting than chicken tikka masala and korma.
All the dishes were fairly mild, even the vindaloo and madras, but that wasn't a problem.
Despite what others have said, we found the portions to be on the smaller side, and the rice and bread was massively overpriced. $8 for a "large" rice which was really only enough for two people is too much. For the curries, we had 5 dishes amongst 4 people and had some leftovers, which the waitress was kind enough to offer to pack to take home if we wanted. We didn't bother as it was mostly just sauce.
On a positive note, they offer BYO, and didn't charge us any corkage. Although they did nothing for us regarding the wine, like an ice bucket,, so it would have been a bit rude to charge anything.
Dishes full of flavour and fragrance. With two other friends we dropped in to The New Shalimar in Wembley and it was a very satisfying culinary experience.
For starters we choose onion bahji and chicken 65: eight pieces of boneless chicken in a sticky sauce with a sting as after taste - recommended.
For main course we had makai lamb, chicken madras, dahl madras and chicken vindaloo, accompanied by plain naan bread and plain pilau rice.
All dishes were full of Asian fragrances, thick sauces and plenty of meat; the dahl was delicious too. As we all shared we were pleasantly surprised to find the vindaloo to be almost sweet with a hot after taste but rather a compliment to the dish than a stopper to eat more..
Bread was fresh, crispy yet soft inside and the pilau was dry, as it should be.
We were in the restaurant on a Tuesday night which meant that only two other tables were taken: the service was relaxed and the waitresses were smiling and friendly.
We noticed about 7 take aways being collected in the 2 hours that we were there; we will certainly take away from The New Shalimar as we find it our favourite Indian restaurant, and we have quite a few in the neighbourhood.
We are regulars at this place. The food is consistently delicious, and we have been served by Rani almost every time we've been, who is friendly and helpful. If you're looking for Indian food, I'd recommend you try New Shalimar!
We had the palak paneer and lamb rogan josh. Delicious and great value! We'll be back!
Beautiful, surprisingly light and excellent menu. Highly recommend
Best indian ever. What my title says
I love this Indian ... It has improved so
Much! The butter chicken is so divine as is all their dishes! A must try!
I like it, and so do my friends.... Been more than six times and it's been great every time.
Recommended to friends and it's always reliable - good food at reasonable prices.
Second worst Indian ive ever had. Burnt garlic naan until it was black, lamb Rohan josh was all fat, and there were no lentils in the daal- it was all sauce. Second time we have been disappointed, never again
Consistent, Good Value. This is our 'local' Indian, and we love it. How authentic the dishes are - I'm mont sure - but they are delicious. We love the Chicken 65, Paneer Masala, Vegetable Kurma and Vegetable Masala, aloo Jeera and butter naan. My kids love the butter chicken - its quite nice - but occasionally they are heavy handed with the sugar in the sauce. I'd give the tandoori prawns a miss too - far too heavily spiced with paprika, and overcooked.
The service is always friendly and the food is cooked to order quickly. We have never had more than 30 minutes to wait. The quality is pretty consistent both when dining in or takeaway, and we think its pretty well priced.
Best indian ever x2. This is called new shalimar indian restaurant now.
What an excellent Thali, easily the best I've had in Perth
Back on top.... After having tried this place a couple of times over a year or so ago, it was good the first time and then mediocre the next and we were not overly impressed. Plus, with the abundance of choice around the area for Indian take-away, we hadn't been back in while but decided to give it another try. We were very glad we did! This was the best Indian food we'd had in a while. Butter Chicken was flavoursome and the chicken cooked perfectly (not dry or stringy), whilst the Beef Madras was also beautifully creamy and spicy with the meat cooked to perfection. Very happy with the price, serving size and quality of the food and I'd recommend it for your next take-way meal. When picking up the food I also noticed that the premises had undergone a bit of a face-lift since I was there last and looked reasonably inviting for a sit down meal if you were in the mood (although a little too bright inside - a dimmer would be recommended). All in all, if you're looking for some decent Indian food then you won't be disappointed.
Just tried this place the other night on the back of its urbanspoon rating. What a hidden gem Shalimar is! Dined in and was not disappointed! Delicious curries & naans. I have a feeling this will be our new takeaway regular! :)
I found another a small indian restaurant in near my place . Food was amazing , good texture and aroma . I recommend for dine here with BYO .
Cheers chef .

The Shalimar has been our local for 6 years (sometimes we have eaten four to five times in a week) and it always the best. We have brought international touring bands to eat at our fave Indian place and they have all raved about the food! The best!!
My family are big fans of curry, so subsequently, we've tried almost every Indian place in Perth. I always keep coming back to the Shalimar. Sure, it's not the nicest looking place, and I probs wouldn't come here for a night out, but it is always my first choice for take out curry. Awesome butter chicken. Awesome lamb korma. AWESOME rice and probably the best naan in Perth.
Don't judge the book by it's cover. My local Indian. was introduced to it 2 weeks ago after living in wembley for 20 years, and every time I would walk past it I didn't look back. After my first time I have been back 3 times in 2 weeks! so delicious!! had the 'non veg' samosas, chicken tikka masala, lamb korma, palak ghosh and chicken madras. all delicious- especially the naan! don't judge the book by its cover- a real gem!!
Love it. Best takeaway curry I have ever had. Delicious chicken hyderabadi (doesn't look too great but it is delicious), Beef vindaloo with a good kick, garlic naan to die for, food that you can tell is made with love. My favourite takeaway in Wembley...
Curry Fix. It's our 6th visit to the Royal Shalimar. We haven't been for quite some time as the last time the food and service was appalling. We gave it another go, and we were pleasantly surprised. All the dishes including the rice were flavoursome. Dahl Gosht was a definate winner in the curry stakes. The service was a little unorganised, so if you don't expect too much you will be at least happy with the curries. Will we go back - for sure.
Curry in a hurry. Popped in on our way home.....tik masala chicken was good ,madras beef was nice but not much meat .alot of sauce and some of the beef was tough....was ok but nowhere near as good as agni in innaloo
Best curry in Perth, the chicken 65 is amazing! Have to book in advance coz this tiny place fills up quickly
