Review Salsa Mexican Restaurant - Werribee

Really love this place and will be back! Everything tasted really good. We got the beef combinado which included a beef taco, enchilada and rice. Also got a Chicken enchilada and tacos. For Dessert got their flan and death by chocolate, both of which I loved!

Was so hungry and craving for Mexican Food. We found this special restaurant. Not only was I satisfied, I was so full. Good customer service too. Will come back definitely.

First time trying Salsa. Went here on half-price Tuesday and received only half the customer service thanks to their rude staff. Firstly, we asked to have an ingredient taken out, but they still ended up adding it to the food. Secondly, the older female waiter rushed us to order dessert, as she placed down the menu and came back after 30 seconds and seemed irritated when we weren’t ready to order. She added that you had to be in and out because that’s how half price works. And lastly, the young male waiter walked off on me mid-conversation when we were trying to explain that the dessert we received did not match the description on their menu, he also was not apologetic at all when we told him the second time. 2 star rating as the food was tasty, but the service definitely needs improvement. Such an unpleasant experience.

Thank you for a beautiful evening! We were thrilled to find such good Mexican food in Werribee. The service was lovely and I was looked after with gluten free options. I think the beef was the best I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant, it is slow cooked to perfection. Also highly recommend the sangria!

Don’t let appearances fool you - it might look like a little average Restaurant, but the Food at Salsas is great. It is real Mexican Food that you will indulge in and take your taste buds on a journey of flavours from Mexico. This family run place, is cosy and perfect for families, groups or a casual date night, where the Service is friendly and the ambience very accommodating. Salsas is hands down the Best Authentic Mexican Food Restaurant in Town.

Was expecting real proper Mexican food. Mostly slop on a plate. I get they were busy but the server's really need to brush up on their customer service skills. We were patient and understanding that they were busy and kept forgetting our orders totally missed the kids meal ordered. It felt like they were.Very angry and annoyed that we were there.

My favourite Mexican restaurant in Melbourne. The food is always amazing and consistent. The owner, Manuel, is also really friendly and serves up excellent margaritas.

A lovely Mexican restaurant in werribee. Been coming here for years and the quality of the food is amazing. Great prices. Awesome atmosphere and the staff bend over backwards to accommodate us.

Went out for dinner on Sunday evening . Heard good rating about this restaurant. So planned a visit and I wasn't disappointed.

Food is good and authentic. They have good number of options for veg folks too.
And their menu is big with multiple combos.they serve drinks as well.
We were happy as we got quick service and food was served hot.

Price is little on a higher side
And I was little disappointed as I was served for extra sauce as I thought it was complimentary as the waiter never mentioned it.

Went to Salsa’s for dinner last night and had their Nachos, Quesadilla De La Casa & Churros! Nachos was our favourite. Loved the ambience of this cute little joint!

Nope big no! Can’t believe they have 4 stars. The food tasted frozen, got the wrong order and when I asked about it they didn’t accept that they made a mistake. Had to call the waitress for more than 3 times to ask about the drink I ordered. And when we got up to pay they decided to finally bring my drink. Such a waste of money.

Mexican is never a bad idea, especially when it's good and Salsa lived up to the expectations set my referrals via friends of ours! Located in Werribee across a strip of other restaurants, we were lucky to secure a table without booking as it was very busy for a Friday evening. To save hassles, we recommend booking in advanced!

With that being said let us get to the food. Ordering the small beef nachos, Chicken Quesadillas and Mixed Fajitas, we felt well and truly this was one of the better Mexican restaurants we had been to. The nachos were layered with cheese and meats, the sauces generous in serving and oozing with flavours. The Quesadillas also quite good with the chicken tender and pastry layering soft yet flavoursome. The highlight of the meal and one we must recommend however are the Fajitas. WOW. This is some of the best seasoned meat you will ever taste. There was something just so exquisite and tasteful with each succulent bite that made us want more. We recommend accompanying this with the tortilla and extra cheese, sour cream and salsa, making for a truly delightful experience.

Service here is also prompt and accommodating, however we must give notice to the surprising extra costs that add up when you add meat to your nachos, extra sauces etc. We weren't careful when reading so if you are on a tight budget, read carefully as the extras add up!

Overall a very pleasant experience and one of the better Mexican restaurants in Melbourne!

Food: 4/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3/5
Value: 3/5

Overall: 3.5/5

Can not fault Salsa!! We’ve been coming here forever and it’s still our favorite! The food is always fresh, super hot plates, friendly service and reasonable prices. Everyone should do themselves a favour and give this place a go.

This is my wife and I’s go to Mexican restaurant. Fantastic food, great Sangrias, Margaritas and a very friendly owner.
Highly recommend the Combinado as you get a good variety of food but to be honest, everything tastes great.

Really happy with my experience!! The margaritas are nice and strong and the food is delicious. The nachos had plenty of cheese and all the toppings which was really yummy. The enchilada dos (beef) was delicious although extremely heavy and a little oily. The service is great. Highly recommended

We wanted Mexican for my birthday and decided to try the local. It was great! The service was prompt and polite. The food was amazing and the serves were HUGE. The ladies ended up taking half their meals home.

Waited over an hour for my food and when it was served the entrees and main were served at the same time. The nacho entree being cold with the plate hot (microwaved) is absolutely horrendous. The people coming in after us were served first and food hot and ready even though we ordered first. There must be a prejudice problem within this restaurant otherwise the food and service is horrible. Definitely not coming here again in my lifetime. Waste of an hour and 30minutes sitting on a wooden chair drinking water.

Manuel and his staff always put on a good feed here. This is a Mexican restaurant run by Mexicans who care about their product and customers. Never a bad meal to be had.

Service was good but ambience was average. But the food here was amazing! If you're looking for those authentic mexican flavours, you've come to the right place. First night i ordered the beef tacos and they were oh-so-yummy. Two nights later i was craving it again and we returned and this time i ordered the beef quesadilla which was sensational and bursting with all those mexican flavours!! This will be added to our list of restaurants we frequently visit. Big thumbs up

I'm from America originally. I'm use to the great Mexican food in the Mission in San Francisco. I moved to Australia five years ago. My husband and I stumbled across this restaurant. The best Mexican I've had here. We love everything about this place. Yummy!

If you are looking for pretentious stylised Mexican food, this isn't the place. If you want good, down to earth traditional food with excellent flavour, then this place is the jackpot. Furnishings are a bit basic, but it really reminded me of my local Mexican restaurant in the USA, not focused on decorations, just great food. We had the nachos for a starter and they disappeared almost as quickly as they came out. They kids ordered from a separate kids menu and had plenty of food. We had the cheese enchiladas with beans and rice - very traditional and nice big full plates. Ate way to much and loved it. If I had to complain about something, I would say that the complimentary chips and salsa were on the small side and the price was starting to get a bit on the expensive side (especially the $6 for beans on the nachos), but we will definitely be going back, so not a huge issue. Overall, a very good dinner.

Absolutely fantastic. Go there on occasion and never disappointed! Might not look like much but the food will not let you down. Went there on Thursday just as they opened and had the Beef Quesadilla, sooo yummy!

We have been going to this restaurant for years and years. Never been disappointed. Yummy food and drink and a relaxed atmosphere. Always enjoyable especially when you get a very friendly smile from the happy owner. Keep up the good work.

I am a regular at Salsa - the food is super yummy! It isn't as authentic/fresh as many other Melbourne Mexican Restaurants, but it's got some great quality meals. Waitressing service is quite often very poor - and it is normal to have something you've ordered not quite right.. But it doesn't overpower the food! Owner is a lovely guy!
ArchaeoGuts
This place is good if you have absolutely NO idea what Mexican food is suppose to be...fresh ingredients, fresh tortillas, choice meats and most of all AUTHENTIC salsa made in house...not out of a big costco can of "salsa for the massa"...lol. Went here one night and felt so ripped off...dishes they charged $25+ and tasted like a it was a buck-fifty....pretty poor service as well. Never going back.

Can't get much more authentic than this place ! What a little gem ! The food was amazing and the service even better ! First time here and safe to say we will be regulars. And I'm not saying this because of the margarita but that was great as well

The best nachos I've had in a long time. Very friendly staff and decent portions. Decor is a little dated but I didn't visit to eat the decorations! Highly recommend for some tasty Mexican!
Yajeeca
Overpriced, not even close to authentic, bad service, ingredients weren't fresh, they use canned/jar salsa (sacrilegious!), this is a wannabe good Mexican restaurant. It seems to fool many...so bad.

We are regulars and keep going back for the fantatsic Mexican fare. Their huge and delectable Mexican dishes and delicious cocktails have won our hearts. Pina coladas are highly recommended. They also do half price Tuesdays.

I'm a regular at this restaurant! Great for families as well as a date for two.
The staff are always friendly, the food is great and not a long wait and great price!

Great food Great Service. We have been going here for a few years now and every single time we get great food, great service and we're in and out in under an hour (for 2 people) which quite frankly is amazing!

This is my favourite restaurant and we would not choose anywhere else to go on a Saturday night!

Best Mexican Place In Melbourne. Was delicious! Open a store in the Northern suburbs please!

Best mexican. Really. if you want to eat at a good mexican meal go to salsa werribee. manuel is a gracious host.

Amazing!. We have been visiting Salsa for at least 10 years now. The food is brilliant! My favourite dish is the chicken fajitas. They bring out the chicken on a sizzling plate and it is absolutely delicious. The owner is very friendly, the service is great, and the prices are very reasonable. What's not to love? I recommend this restaurant to anyone that likes Mexican food.

I am of a Hispanic background and was very impressed at the authenticity of the food at this place. Very authentic Mexican meals with attentive and friendly service.

Great Restaurant. I had to check the address to make sure I was discussing the same restaurant that others have found lacking!
We've been going there since it was a Taco Bills franchise.
The food is always great and the host friendly!
The price of the food is barely (just barely!) above what you would pay at the golden arches!
I speak with a fairly strong Australian accent, but I have never encountered any communication problems.
Anyway, the waitresses speak English a damn sight better than what I speak Spanish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Michael Nunan
Werribee

Horrible. Possibly one of the worst mexican restaurant i've ever encountered. All the food seems like its come from a pot thats been there all day. Not fresh at all and over priced.

what a waste

Just Ok.. As far as Mexican goes, yeah, they've got the right colour on the walls and they serve tacos. I think this place made it's name more for the Sangria and frozen Margarita than the food.

To be honest, the meals that were brought to the table all looked exactly the same except for the way the food was positioned on the plate. It all looked like big piles of slop with the only exception being the fajitas which were brought out on sizzle plates with a couple of extra plates for the bits and pieces. If I were to recommend anything, it would be the fajitas simply because it looked the freshest and didn't look like it had come out of a bucket.

The desserts were EXTREMELY lackluster and what they tote as being a "Death By Chocolate" dessert was simply chocolate mousse with chocolate syrup and cream poured over with a tiny bit of dry cake on the side.

I personally think it's expensive for what you get, but then there's not too many Mexican restaurants in the area.

The service isn't too bad - except don't ask for anything different because it just confuses the staff who don't appear to speak English too well. Trying to get the dressings on the side was impossible and asking for two spoons with dessert was an exercise in patience.

I'm not too keen to go back.

Been going here for years, great food every time the sangria tends to vary visit to visit, overall 9/10 !!

This restaurant has been serving good Mexican food for over 30 years, current owners have have been there for over 12 years. Food is honest, fresh and delicious would recommend this place to any one.
Jamie P
Food was nice but it wasn't very hot. There also could of been a bit more on the plate for the money.
Shayna
Favourite. Possibly one of the best mexican restaurants I've ever tried. The quesadilla suprema with chicken is an absolute must. Try this place, its REALLY good, and the owner is a really nice guy as well. Its a bit pricey, but its definitely worth it.
Wolfmuffin
Absolutely fantastic. Been twice and had an absolutely flawless meal both times. Fajitas on sizzle plates very fresh, very very very flavourful and quite spectacular! Nachos are absolutely perfect and it seems you can't go wrong with the enchiladas.

The owners generally personally attend to any problems and have been very reasonable and nice.

Not cheap but possibly the best Mexican experience I've ever had! And that's not just the pancho villa talking.

Combinda is what i get and nothing come close . 4 stars.

Great food, Service is Slow. I have been here numerous times and the place is always at capacity, bookings are a must! Especially on half priced Tuesdays.
The food is always fantastic and I have no complaints about the food whatsoever. The only thing that lets them down is their slow service, especially for drinks. My most recent experience there was a little tainted by this poor service. After arriving 5 mintues behind the other guests at the table, they had already ordered drinks but not yet ordered their food. We all ordered our food together and when I asked for a Corona, the watiress confirmed that this was in addition to the original drinks order. When she bought out our drinks about 5 mintues later, she hadn't added my drink. It took a further 10 minutes for them to bring out my drink and only after I asked the waitress about it. All they had to do was take the bottle from the frisge and pop the lid, nothing complicated about it yet it still took 15 minutes.

Wonderful food, great service everytime. It's a little high in pricing but worth it. This is one of our fav's. It is very popular Friday & Saturday evenings so be sure to make a reservation.

Mixed bag.... We were 2 people having early dinner on a Saturday shortly after opening.

The service at this Restaurant was not very good, decor and table setting average with no table covers.

The food was quite nice but not spectacular.
We had an Entree: Frijoles con Carne dip ($11.95) followed by 2 mains, Fajitas Mixed on a hot plate ($26) and Carne Con Chile Colorado ($23)

Soft drinks (Cans) were served by the glass ($3) with so much ice that you get maybe 150-180mL to a 250mL glass. The waitress stated that they open 2 cans to serve 2 glasses but when asked to give us the rest, they were not forthcoming. We were told that "We serve by the glass only" in a very firm way by one of the managers (Owner).

As this restaurant is not exactly cheap, one would expect a bit less of the "we don't do" attitude and a bit more attention to reasonable customers requests.

I did suggest larger glasses or small jugs as the other manager (Owner) did not want cans on the tables due "to an issue with a drinks company", whatever that means.

I got the feeling that they were going to ignore my suggestions, given the type of reply I got to my suggestions. I suspect that they are simply trying to get a 390mL drink can to serve 2 persons and charge accordingly.

Overall experience: A mixed bag due to the drinks issue. My friend and I will not be going back.

The nachos are amazing! Very nice resturant and is always busy so make sure you book!

Great food at an extremely good price. Would definately recommend.

Best Mexican In The West. This is my favorite restaurant. We eat their at least once a fortnight and always leaving feeling totally satisfied. The food is superb and we just love the service, the wait staff remember what we like to order and know how we like things to come out. Just love the Beef Combinado and husband is obsessed with the Beef Fajitas. Don't forget that Tuesdays is half price main meal night, so a very cheap night. Can't not say a bad word about Salsa
Kamal
Me and my gf had this last night ill admit the service and food were great. Would recommend.

It wasn't horrible but it wasn't that good A bit pricey .
Engelbert Sebastian
Was ok, not the best, not the worst. I went there on Saturday night. The customer service was good. We started with a chille con carne dip as an entree, this was great!. However when our mains came out, I was dissapointed by the lack of size for the price and when I ordered the burrito, it wasn't put together for me like at other mexican restraunts instead giving me 2 flour tortilla's to roll my own. The plates were also too small so sides got mixed in with the inside of my burrito. It was a decent tasting experience though.

Would I go back there? not really unless I was in the area, craved mexican and couldn't be bothered driving further out for better mexican, which is doubtful. But I couldn't say I don't like it, it's just I don't like it enough to go back there
Melanie
Not that great. The combination of food in one dish clashed. It lacked taste and to top it off, upset my tummy!!
Christian Guzzer Guzman
Great food. Reasonable price. Be prepared to wait as food took it's time to come out.

Great food, Great price. We spent a night at the Werribee mansion, but decided to head out instead of eating at the hotel. We chose Salsa Mexican as an alternative to what we would normally choose.
I have read previous reviews, and to be honest, dont't understand what the negative feedback is all about.
The food was delicious, the margaritas fantastic, and I didn't think it was all that expensive at all.
We had 2 entrees, 2 mains, 3 cocktails, a beer & corkage for wine, and the total was around $100. I aint complaining. It was a good night out, the staff were attentive and brought us what we ordered.
We will most definitely be going back there.

This is my 2nd fav place, for about 3yrs now, a couple times they forgot to do out take away order so we arrived 20mins after the call & waited 1hr & 19mins for them to cook it & tell us it's ready... It wasn't even busy, however I recimend ear in :)
Regular Bloke
Hasn't got a lot of competition and overall that is probably reflected in it's quality. A bit pricy forcuts food quality. Service is more backpacker standard empoyees or school kids and let's it down. Average to good food quality and variety. Enjoyable. Drinks a little pricey for spirits and cocktails small overall. Surrounds look cheap and tired.
Aimee Louise
Still waiting for food! SLOW service. They ran out of mince meat! Asked them to take our order 3 times! People who ordered after us recieved their food first!! Asked for a glass of ice 20mins later, hello glass of water?
IssyD
First time, loved it, will definatley be back :)

Poor Service Didn't Want Our Business. We have been regular customers at this Mexican restaurant for over 10 years. Until now, when a group of friends wanted to celebrate a few birthdays. There were 15 of us and when we tried to make a booking we were denied because of our numbers!!!!!! You would think that they would be appreciative of the business however the owner was quite rude and has now lost all of us as customers. We are all local community members who work in local businesses and will definately not be recommending Salsa to any friends, colleagues or family.

Went on a Tuesday and really liked it. Wouldn't go any other night.
Katie K
Great food, friendly staff and very affordable on a Tuesday. Best place to eat in werribee.
Matt Rollo
Love this place! One of the best mexican restaurants around!! A little overpriced but always delicious
GC
Firstly the staff and owner are very friendly and great so service is never a problem. Sadly in Australia and this place included it is so hard to find an authentic Mexican style restaurant like you would find in southern USA or Mexico itself. That all aside the food quality is good and I've been here several times and never had a problem. For someone that has never had Mexican be sure to give it a go. For someone looking for a real mex place it's not a bad effort.

Good food, good staff, a little expensive. Salsa has had its ups and downs since we started going there three years ago. We hadn't been back for about a year now as our last experience just wasn't that good.

But they're back!

Whatever happened back then seems to be over. The food is back to being quite good (though a little on the expensive side really).

If you're looking for some heat in your food, look elsewhere. The food is very tasty, served nice and hot, and the staff are nicely attentive.

Almost everything on the menu will come with rice and cheese. Most also come with frijoles (refried beans).

Their sizzling Fajitas are great: you get a sizzling plate of meat, onion and capsicum, the there's a plate of rice, salad and guaquamole and a container of tortillas. Take one tortilla, fill with your own balance of ingredients, roll it up and enjoy!

Last night we ordered a small plate of Nachos, the Sizzling Fajitas, a half-serve Avocado Del Mar, a plate of wedges (from the children's menu), a Margheritta, mexican punch and a caraffe of sangria. Total cost: about $95 -- a little more expensive that I'd have liked to pay, but we don't go every night.

The ambience is fair-to-good: there's plenty of 'mexicana' around the walls, the tables aren't too close or too far apart (it seats 30-40 from my rough estimate)

I'll go again, and I'll take friends if they happen to be around.

I'd recommend Tuesday if you can: all mains are half price (except the seafood) though it can be fairly busy. Make sure you book.
