Review Shingle Inn - Werribee

Jay Esperanza
Ordered 3 items from their menu and although decent tasting... honestly, can't justify the (over) price to the long time it took to serve and the small servings. Wife and I were so disappointed and ended up eating elsewhere shortly after just to feel full.

Upper class cafe with the most delicious, tempting, delightful, dishes. The cafe has plenty of seating and a great location to grab a little refreshing respite on your way to or from your car, as Shingle Inn is located immediately adjacent to the escalator from the carpRk. Shopping is a pleasure when you can relax at such a lovely venue. The coffee is superb. The young barista Sahil is friendly, efficient, professional, and makes the best mocha I have tried. You can even bring your own coffee mug for Sahil to replenish with your favourite beverage. Remember to try the moist fruit cake.

I found this place to be just fine. I ordered my food which was a tad bit pricey but that's life everywhere. Customer service was awesome. Loved the coffee and the caramel slice was very nice. I would recommend this place.

Food was tasty when I ordered, however the staff could use some personality - It was like talking to a dead fish. Wait times were horrible as well. I was the only person there, yet took 35 minutes for a simple burger and chips to be made.

Meals are over priced , small and low in quality. You pay the same money for a high quality breakfast somewhere else. I could make a better meal in my own kitchen , which was super dissapointing. The only good thing about the place are the beautiful seats. And the staff seemed lovely.

Absolutely loved it! Asked for the big breakfast but if they could substitute the bacon to avocado as they are the same price. I was told it would not be a problem at all. And the meal was delicious. The tomato relish is just like the old relish at Grill'd - sooooooo yummy. Under $20 for a full breakfast including a drink... very reasonable prices and also great service.

Sad to say I had an unfortunate experience. I requested a no sugar almond milk matcha latte (matcha has numerous health benefits and am on a health kick at the mo'), only to realise after my first sip that the almond milk was sweetened with sugar by the brand... The person making the latte did not notice this, which is fine.. My real problem is that when I asked for a replacement, apologising for the hiccup because at the end of the day, if I wasn't eating healthy I wouldn't have minded.. I received a full fat matcha latte, which I asled for because the coconut milk they had was also sweetened, this one tasted even sweeter than the first!! As if refined sugar had been added!! I asked whether the matcha powder they had was pre-sweetened and I was told no... Whether a mistake was made, or sugar was added to spite me (which I doubt) is not the concern here. My concern is for diabetics asking for no sugar products from this establishment, only to receive the opposite, resulting in a serious and very much avoidable insulin spike. Definitely think staff needs training about these issues. Cheers!

Shingle Inn Werribee is one place I will NEVER be returning, nor recommending. I visited today and asked for a Moroccan Filo Pastry on its own, as a take away order. To be charged $13.90 for a filo pastry half the size of my hand is VERY EXCESSIVE.

I asked the staff if they thought that this price was excessive, and I was simply shrugged off like they didn't care or acknowledge my request. I was also refused a reduction in price because 'there wasn't a price' for a singular savoury item.

This is far from acceptable. Keep my money, but I am not returning to this horrible place. Might just add that the pastry tasted like rubbish.

Appalling.

#BOYCOTTSHINGLEINNWERRIBEE

My mother always said if you can't say anything nice, don't say it at all...but sometimes there has to be exceptions.

I can now understand why I never see the place packed out.

The Shingle Inn Pacific Plaza Werribee is located just outside the Target entry and offers seating for around 30-40 people in booths and tables.

So it was the Rosemary Lamb Filo picture that attracted my wife to try this eatery.
Despite communicating my order to the staff, this proved very difficult and it was clear this person had no idea on their products or register operation, and lacked any induction training.
The Rosemary Lamb Filo was pictured on several advertising posters and stands around the entry. Trying to order the Filo proved difficult.

Then came my order, I wanted the gourmet grilled chicken burger minus the salad. That request in itself was very difficult to place, but I felt satisfied when the order was taken. That come with beer battered chips which I was looking forward to.

I ordered a serve of Nachos for the kids and added some chicken with sour cream and gauc.

Add in a few kids shakes and 300ml pepsi max (oh even that was wrong I got pepsi) and a tea for the wife, the total bill was around $66.00.

My wife noticed that there was an overcharge in her special order and she went back to correct them, getting a $4 refund, indicating she wanted the special.

Out comes the order:

The Rosemary Lamb Filo looked nothing like it did in the pictures, it contained minced lamb, not chunky like advertised and there was no sign of the rich rosemary & herb gravy.

My gourmet grilled chicken burger came with cold chicken...and was very tasteless. In total there was 14 beer battered chips accompanying the order.

The kids nacho again had cold chicken in a bowl along side, along with a bowl of sour cream and guacamole. I thought they could have mixed it up.

So leaving feeling vey disappointed I did email my feedback in to the Shingle Inn and did get a reply from the Area Manager who indicated despite:
* My indicating the special advertised meal of Lamb Filo; and
* My wife taking the picture from the table menu up to them indicating that is what she wanted, it was the wrong Lamb Filo.

The other issues with the cold chicken weren't addressed.

The Area Manager did say she would send out a voucher and also give me a call to let me know of her follow up with the franchisee but neither has happened and this was some 3 weeks ago now.

Even with a free voucher, I wouldn't go back there and eat...it just was not very nice! Overpriced, under quality. Should have went to Grilled, GYG or Snitz..

See pictures in the picture section.

I think the coffee here is pretty decent for a shopping centre. A skinny iced coffee was strong enough and ice cold so very refreshing. We didn't have any food but it looked pretty standard for a chain cafe
