Review Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club - Wickham

Great customer service experience from booking on the phone to being seated for our Tuesday lunch. Friendly bar staff, relaxed atmosphere with vistas of water and moored boats. Great expectations on the food and this was sadly lacking for our dishes. Something for everyone on the menu and definitely enticing with the descriptions on offer. Prawn and chorizo linguine was one main that we thought would shine but it definitely missed the mark. Linguine cooked to perfection but prawns were hard and salty as if brined which clashed with the chorizo. Poor balance. Salad cherry tomato halves could have done with roasting to sweeten. More suitable in a salad and not seasoned at all. Very hearty serving and best suited for a more bland palate. Grilled chicken breast with cranberry and Persian feta was enjoyable when you trimmed the dried outer edges and found the better part of the centre cut. Roasted onion a very nice inclusion when you discarded the burnt outer shell and it added a nice flavour with chicken and cranberries. The beetroot puree was a nice addition but absolutely drowned the meal with it piped in large dabs around the entire plate and had you pushing the food to higher ground to save it from going under. All the ingredients are there for a nice lunch out with burger options and small starters and entrees. Our entree of 6 natural oysters and 6 kilpatrick were the star. The mignonette was light and fresh and complimented the fresh oyster perfectly. Not rushing back but would try something else on the menu if happen to be in the CBD again.

Food was first class. Would give a 5 star rating normally but unfortunately the entry staff were less than inviting (hoping its a one off) but everyone else has happy to be back to normal and couldn't be more welcoming.

Great correspondence with online booking confirmed by message. Staff very friendly and helpful. I had a birthday cake and they could not have been more obliging to help out. Meals all came out together, were delicious and not too pricey. Venue was large but quiet and there was plenty of room between dining groups.

A beautiful location with great renovations. The food was very nice and the kids meals were a great size and really fresh. HOWEVER, this is not a family friendly restaurant anymore. I do not recommend taking children here. The staff and patrons (retirees) made it very clear that the children were not welcome. Our time here was very uncomfortable. We couldn’t wait to eat and leave despite the fact the children were very well behaved. A lovely spot for adults only.

Lunch was great. First time back after the renovations, very airy and comfortable. Menu had enough items to suit most tastes budgets. All in all a good experience made better with the company I invited. Will be back.

Looked forward to dining here for the first time and trying some seafood. Prawn and chorizo linguine was very disappointing. Prawns were hard and very salty, cherry tomatoes were cold salad tomatoes mixed in with little flavour and the whole dish lacked flavour. Pasta cooked lovely but that's where it ended. Oysters were the saving grace for this lunch. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would probably try again, just order something different.

Great venue on the harbour overlooking the yachts and fishing boats. Reasonable parking and the Fish Co-Op 2 doors down.

Went to sign in; one machine not printing Ordered a hot flat white, got a warm cappuccino Specials board not written up, waitstaff to write it up and come back to let us know what specials were. Still waiting Fine dining prices but you have to go up and order, bistro style Couldn’t order because system wasn’t working. Eventually sorted Oysters natural full of shell grit Jewfish undercooked Paid $167 and left, never to return. Eat here at your peril.

Been meaning to put this post up since N.Y.E. We had a great night. We thought the kitchen did a great job with getting the amount of food out that they had to. It was a tad longer then we expected to be eating, especially the starter. We thought the portion size was enough & the main course I didn’t finish mine which made it more comfortable to dance to the great music. The staff are always friendly and accommodating, even making sure that my dietary requirement was met. Ok, there was no poppers or silly hats to wear but they weren’t missed on our table. A glass of champagne included in ticket price would of been nice on arrival & the side gate opened so we could all spill outside to watch the 9 o’clock fire works instead of from behind the fence crowded in. Most of our table are locals & it was great being able to walk down there & home. Candice & staff did a great job at making our Hogmanay an enjoyable evening to bring 2018 in. Happy New Year to you all.

Great view, friendly staff and very accommodating for functions! One of my favourite places to have a beer!

Drinks, view and atmosphere are great! But the food once again was so disappointing. $42 for terrible presentation and deep fried food. Such a shame.

View was beautiful and staff very nice. Meal was good except our chips were only warm. Tasted like they had been sitting on the bench for a while whilst the fish was being cooked

Great outlook and location but I marked it down for food quality and ambience. Please note this review is based on my visit 8 months ago and things may have changed since then.

I attended the She Sails event last night. Listening to the stories of such a varied group of women sailors was inspirational. What a great event!

Watching the female cooking steaks, breads and salad. She wore no gloves, blowing her nose, wiping sweat off her forehead and using her fingers to plate up. Where are the health standards????
