Review Mez Mez - Williamstown

Rachel Stevens
Freshly squeezed orange juice and spinach gozlume, all for 20 bucks. Good quality food and drink, reasonably priced and fast service. There is free wifi, though I had to ask a waiter for log in details.

Had the lamb burger, which was good. Pancakes were more like dried scones. Very doughy and dry. Unappealing...

Great coffee! Family friendly and cozy place! Very courteous staff

Always excellent A+ The few times my partner and I have eater brunch here, the food and service has been amazing. Friendly staff and quick serve times, barista knows how to make a good coffee also, which is a bonus. Looking forward to the next time we decide to comeback.

Amir, is a friendly, hospitable dude who is both welcoming and passionate about food and local small business. Not to mention loves a discussion. Coffee is great. So sad to hear ur other cafe has shut down. I love the breakfasts here!!
Blu Hand
Lovely breakfast/lunch menu with some middle eastern fusion. Nice atmosphere and they have The Age newspaper too! If you like your coffee you'll need to ask for a strong one in my opinion.

Where to start? The coffee and food is always amazing. I have soy coffee and a good coffee is hard. They make it perfect every single time. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. The staff are brilliant.

usually not a big complainer but went in there took an hour to get our meals, moved myself and two friends from our table onto a smaller table that barely fitted three people, our meals were nothing short of a disgrace, the service awful, and walked out with a hole in my wallet
Bernadette Velarde
Thank you for being so hospitable and lovely. Loved the food .

I over indulge in the coconut milk lattes (wonderful morning indulgence) though my street caffeine cred (aka long back coffee) is challenged and occasionally mocks me.
Nadia Hart
Great restaurant with a unique menu that is sure to please.
John Bowden
average food, we got seated under the kitchen serving window, was very uncomfortable.

I love everything about this place. From the service, to the food everything is just superb!

My favourite brunch spot. If I could give 6 stars I would! Highly recommend the potato and saganaki hash brown and potato and gruyer croquet- O.M.G! If you want to try the beat milkshake in the world I recommend the Snickers. Beautiful contemporary Middle Eastern setting and friendly staff in iconic Williamstown.
Hello. Imnikki
Walked past a few other cafes that weren't very busy before we arrived at Mezmez. Mezmez seems to draw in the crowd and we managed to grab one of the last two available tables. Service was prompt, and on the whole, quite friendly.<br/><br/>The food was a hit and miss. The Grilled Soujuk was the better dish in terms of flavour, let down only by the rather bland potatoes. The Saganaki Hash Brown presented more in terms of texture, with the hash browns fried to crunchy golden perfection. The smoked salmon was rather salty though.<br/><br/>I found the Snickers milkshake overly sweet, but there was no denying how thick and creamy it was. No complains with our skinny lattes - strong and smooth. Gulped mine down in a flash.

We’ve been coming to MezMez since it opened a few years back. <br/><br/>It’s one of the cafes that brought a resurgence on Ferguson street, the street looks very different now to a mere three years ago. It’s more lively and it has lots more choices, although still not that much for dinner time. <br/><br/>MezMez has a distinct middle eastern flavour in its decor and its menu has also been influenced by the owner’s family roots. You’ve got a selection of various dishes, some your typical fare that you get everywhere like smashed avocado, chilli eggs on toast. The difference is some of the other dishes like the grain salad, the sujuk (Turkish spiced sausage), the zataar chicken, gozleme, falafel, pides, etc. I love them because there is a lot more flavour and they are very different to what you get elsewhere. <br/><br/>There are also specials on the board, but I would like to see that change a bit more often. I would like to see a few vegan options and/or more middle-eastern (eggplant anyone?)<br/><br/>The staff is very friendly, over the years there have been some hit and miss but overall a very friendly and helpful team that will make you feel welcome. <br/><br/>For us MezMez is the go to place in Williamstown, I have recommended it to a few people that have come out to Willy and it went down well. I recommend this place wholeheartedly...
Jess
I have passed this place many times meaning to go in as it looks great, nice decor and something a bit different compared to the other cafes in Williamstown. I think it is one of the better offerings on Ferguson st. The food was really tasty and good value. I would definitely go back.
Thecheftable
we have been at mezmez a few time, great atmosphere ,love the Decor , excellent coffee (better than the code black in Brunswick) services is friendly 😄 food was good. recommended when you are in the area 😄
Teddys99
Ate a felafel pide here earlier today. Was a tad bland and needed more seasoning. Staff not overly attentive although it was a very hot day outside. Noone proactively asked us for more drinks etc.

Popped in for brunch a little while ago and it was delightful! I had the pancakes and they were divine. The coffee is also really good! Mezmez is a smallish but cozy cafe in Williamstown. It is so inviting. It's a perfect place to go during the Melbournian Winter!
Giorgio Barcaiolo Battaglini
Very good middle eastern inspired cafe. Although the single origin short black that day was a bit too sweet for my taste, the food was absolutely good and the dukkah was the most balanced dukkah I had in my life, and that's not an easy task.

It's the place to go to hang out .... hence we mostly go here. <br/><br/>On the shopping esplanade of Williamstown. Inside and outside seating area. It's one of those place that you would love to hang around for a long long time. Easily, one of the best cafe venue in Williamstown, modern Middle Eastern influence interior, neatly done with some French provincial and post-modern/industrialist feel, hanging Shisha headlamp are cool too, also their toilets. <br/><br/>Not sure about their food (menu), sweets are okay, coffee was ordinary. Although my $3.80 Latte was well made and enjoyable, it's just lacking in character/s and milkier than what Code Black beans and La Marzocco combo should churned.

If you're still chasing an amazing, fresh, Nutella donut then look no further! Drop in and give mez mez a go.<br/>I like the Turkish influence this place has on there menu, but the 2nd/3rd time I went back here I wasn't as impressed as the first. The quality of food seemed a lot less, my breakfast was very standard.<br/>Although I love the banana smoothie they have on the menu.
TheWhiteSherpa
Perfect for after sport coffee on a day when everything else around is closed. Good for unwinding. Relaxed atmosphere for a honest breakfast and good coffee. Locals love it! Had strong cappuccino and Nutella doughnut. Good, not great.

This cafe caught our eye as we were walking down the Main Street in Williamstown. The decor inside was inviting and the menu looks interesting. Very Greek orientated. Coffee cafe out with the shot on its own and then I could add in the amount of water I wanted. I guess a deconstructed long black. Not something I have ever been given before but hey I liked it. Hubby ordered an ice coffee but didn't realise it came with a scoop of ice cream. He only wanted a cold coffee but it still tasted yum!! I ordered he fattoush salad. The chicken was cooked beautifully and the salad was tasty. The only down fall was there was WAY to much olive oil in it. I felt a bit sick afterwards. Hubby had the squid which was Delish. Love the side of grapefruit which added a completely different element to the dish 👍🏼. Service was great and prices were good too ☺

We saw someone with these smoothies in another shop and really wanted to know where they came from! It was just across the street and we only got the smoothies, but they were great- really refreshing and didn't flavours than the usual smoothie place

Hidden gem! I tried this place today as my usual was closed for the holidays, and we struck gold! Love, love, loveddd the freshly squeezed orange and strawberry juice that they happily made when I requested it. The breakfast was fantastic! Customised my toast and poached eggs to add hollandaise, sucuk, beans and mushrooms which was more than enough to share with my partner who got the lemon avocado. Service was super friendly, and the food came out within 10 minutes of ordering even though they were busy! Was relatively cheap as well considering all the extras we ordered. Will definitely be coming back here soon.

If you're on the healthy journey then this place will be perfect for you. I love their breakfast menu and have often come here for poached eggs on toast with avocado. Easy on the stomach to begin the day. The food is filled with vibrance and so much colour.

Just had breakfast here. The staff were lovely, the food was delicious (and generous serves!) and the coffee was beautiful. Best cafe breakfast I've had in a while!

MezMez is breathing new life in to Willy town with its modern eatery vide and funky decor. The menu is quote extensive with an extensive list of mezze and tapas options. The idea here is to bring some friends and share some plates. We came here for lunch on a weekday so it was quiet so no trouble getting a seat and we had great service. The food came out in reasonable time and everything was explained to us well. All tasted good, packed full of flavour for the mains, the desserts however were very average. My only complaint is the seeming overload of garlic in the mezzo and tapas dishes. I felt I needed to brush my teeth thoroughly on leaving.

We had heard some good things about MezMez so gave it a try for brunch on a chilly Saturday, but unfortunately left feeling a little underwhelmed.<br/><br/>Granted they were quite busy and seemed a little short staffed, but the food took a long time to come out and our drinks order was stuffed up. We got the Grilled Soujouk & the Sautéed Mushrooms; the Soujouk was lacking flavour and the potatoes were dry, while the mushroom dish was nice enough but was also a tad bland. The manager was fantastic and the people were lovely, so it's a shame it didn't live up to our expectations on this occasion.
Kashia Cherry
Great food, service and location.<br/>Good amount of seating for busier days however only about two tables outise. More suited to brunch and coffee with a cake.<br/>
Moz.Food_coma
good coffee ! I have eaten here a couple of times but I wasn't on zomato till now. The food was hot and delicious the only down sides were that the plate was to small for the amount of food on it and olive oil was drizzled all over .

We stopped in after silent yoga on the beach after a recommendation by a friend and we were pleasantly surprised. They had gf bread which is always a plus for a coeliac! The coffee is fab and the service was prompt, informative and very polite. We really enjoyed this very tasty breakky we will defo be back again!

On the lookout for a good salad for my clean- eating daughter we found Mez Mez for the perfect lunch - cosmopolitan with a middle-eastern flavour the food was fresh and tasty with herbs and spices. An ancient grains salad for madam and spicy squid with a cool grapefruit salad for me were delicious on a warm summer's day. The turkish delight milkshake was a highlight. The modern meets trad decor was colourful and comfortable. Staff were warm too. We will be back.

Very nice place.  FOH staff have been well trained and are nice polite and professional.  Food is very Mediteranean inspired and not shy with the olive oil.  Not a bad thing though.  Excellent coffee.  The sourdough is pretty hard to get through since its hand cut and very thick.  So much so, that you are given a steak knife to cut it with.  A good place to mix things up a little if you want to change your tastes a bit.   Well worth the visit.

Mez Mez is easily the best restaurant in Williamstown. The service, food and atmosphere are all top notch. You'll be raving about their coffee and donuts!

We stopped in for brunch today. It wasn't too busy for a Monday morning which was good, but it started to fill up not long after we arrived. <br/><br/>The coffee is great here and the fresh juices are squeezed on the spot. <br/><br/>We had yummy serves of delicious avocado and huge mushrooms on thick sourdough toast.<br/><br/>The service is friendly and efficient and the ambience just right.<br/><br/>We love this place.

Fantastic! Had a late brekky/lunch & loved it. Staff were brilliant & food to match. Very helpful & made suggestions from the menu we wouldn't have picked...glad we tried something different. Yum!
JohnnyH
Easily the best cafe in Williamstown. I have had 2 dishes here and both very good. Middle eastern influence. The Zataar chicken and fatoush was full of flavour.

Visit Mezmez for a special lunch or brekky - you won't be disappointed. Food is Middle Eastern inspired with a modern take and is simply delicious. The decor matches food and feels like you have been spirited away from suburban Willi. Can get crowded at the weekend. Staff are helpful with the menu but some can be a little arrogant when the place is at its fullest.
Mel
Great food! Love it here. Staff are super friendly. Breakfast is delicious and the coffee is great. Never had a problem here. One of my favourite places in Williamstown
Ms.rhino
Regular for breakfast - lunch. Coffee is perfect every time (strong and hot) and the meals never fail. Favourite place for full breakfast. Staff are always attentive. Often busy but that's also a good sign! Grab yourself a nutella donut or freshly made juice. I particularly like ordering from the brunch menu and adding a poached egg. The avocado, lemon, black sesame, pumpkin seed, chilli and goats cheese on toast goes so well with fresh eggs!

Went to mez mez and had the jewel of the Nile 'smoothie'. The drink was very watery and sent it back. Staff were ok however the boss seemed to think it was personal preference. Was forced to pay for it. Very disappointing.

Went here for a quick breakfast early Sunday morning. Such lovely service, great coffee and food! Really enjoyable on a cold Melbourne day!!
BubblesLovesFood
Hmmm coffee pretty good. Food mediocre for the price. The interior is quite nice but the style of service isn't great. Generally a typical Williamstown place.
Dumba
Good fast service, nice atmosphere and great food. Quite busy but worth the wait. The staff are friendly. The area is a bit cramped but still comfortable.
Bella
The food is quite good and they have a really interesting Turkish inspired menu. I just can't justify coming here when the coffees are half the size and the menu is double the price it should be.
Melbourneyum
Nice cafe the hotcakes look amazing but were dry and didn't have much flavor off day in kitchen? Don't know but i wouldn't eat pancakes there again.the steak sandwich was good maybe they do better on savory food
TOT: HOT OR NOT
The owners of Newport’s popular The Pint of Milk have opened a bigger restaurant around the corner in Williamstown called Mezmez. The interior is tastefully decorated and telling of the Turkish influence that’s in the menu if the name doesn’t give it away. ‘Contemporary Middle Eastern’ is how I’d define it – shisha pipes hang prettily as table decorations and I’m in love with the cut-out lamp shades too.

The food is always amazing and the service is always friendly. It's nice to see a menu with variety and a unique taste, definitely recommend!

Food is delicious..... The chef knows his stuff.  Everything on the menu is worth a try at least once.  My fav is the Ancient Grains and the Nutella donuts!! <br/> The atmosphere is very funky and creative and you can see that there is a lot of love that has gone into the fitout,  <br/>Staff are friendly and accommodating....

TOO SLOW!!!!! Great place but TOO SLOW :(
Narelle Johnson
Worst service in a restaurant ive ever had! Took 2 hours for 2 drinks and 4 tapas plates.<br/>Even after we complained, nothin was done.<br/>Food was nice, but over priced.
Lisa-Jayne
Love the menu and atmosphere. Live locally so decided to try. Loved the food, coffee, juices and atmosphere!
Leah Michelle
Loved the food here! Such a fresh variety of European options (gosleme, breakfast, brunch, cakes and pastries)! Service was good and they accomodated out prams easily which other cafe staff seem to huffs and puff about. Will definitely be back for a Nutella donut!
Cameron Joseph
Awesome milkshakes!!. Try the snickers milkshake ... um...YUM!!

Consistently delicious. Have eaten here quite a few times now and have always had fast friendly service and DELICIOUS food. Favourites would have to be the Nile smoothie & Zatar Chicken Salad. Highly reccomended, it's really nice to have a brekky option in Williamstown that's a bit different to the rest too
Nataly
Came in because of the beautiful wall tiles and glad we did. My mum and I both ordered the open steak sandwich, it was delicious!

Disappointed. After hearing great things my partner and I gave this place a go for breakfast. I enjoyed my (small) coffee but was very disappointed when my food came. Toast so thick it was a battle to cut, bacon that was 90% uncooked fat, undercooked eggs with overcooked spinach and tasteless yellow sauce posing as hollandaise. Safe to say we won't be back
Momo
Grilled Soujouk with Eggs and Potato. The soujouk, being a sliced sausage has the most sensational taste. Combines with the sunny side up eggs and potato gives an amazing flavour. It also comes with some herbed cooked greens, and I have never wanted to eat greens but they were soo nice I really piked the flavour of spinach for once!

Beware the coffee cup sizes here are tiny - at least half of what you'd get anywhere else for a latte but they charge the same! However, the coffee we had was good and we all enjoyed what we ate for breakfast. Just like Pint of Milk, the service is a little haphazard and staff appear to be a bit disorganised.

Delicious, cool vibe, different menu. 3rd time eating here & have loved it every time. They have a great menu (and different to every other place around w-town thankfully!), and the food is cooked perfectly and served with a smile. Only negatives would be the food can take quite a while (although we were updated about progress & apologised to so all good in my eyes), and the coffee is a bit weak for my liking. But this is definitely by favourite brekky spot in Williamstown, love it.

Food. Awsome

Great place but slow. Visited with 4 for lunch. Great venue and a good buzz but it took nearly an hour for food to arrive after ordering - after 40 mins wait we asked what was happening and were told there was a big table and food was on the way. Then waited another 10 mins. No apologies from the wait staff (basically felt they didn't really care). Food was good when it arrived but maybe not quite as impressive as other reviews have suggested. Maybe breakfast is better (will certainly try as we like to support the local businesses).

Exactly what Williamstown needed!. I love this place! It is exactly what Williamstown needed. Thank you for not opening another bacon and eggs cafe (there's far too many here)! The menu is so interesting and the food was amazing! Loved the amount of options for vegetarians too! I think this might become my regular! Try the snickers milkshake and the feta gozleme! Both awesome :) Coffee is great too!

Best coffee I've ever had!. I walked past this cafe and was attracted by the interior. Honestly incredible coffee, the menu looks amazing and the staff were so lovely and friendly. I've never written a review before but definitely felt the need to after my experience. Do yourself a favour and check it out!

A Contemporary restaurant blended with traditional Turkish flavour; Good place for a date; Trendy. Visual: As a new restaurant in Willy I couldn't help but check it out. Has been under construction for sometime now and i can see why. Contemporary setup which has clearly been designed down to the last detail: Quaint turkish colourful glass ornaments hanging inside it which were gorgeous. Also loved the exit signs which were translated into arabic. The owners third restaurant in the area and he's obviously starting to get pretty good at it. I believe this is his masterpiece thus far. <br/><br/>Food and Price: I'm a health nut and I ordered a boring meal so i can't comment on the turkish food (Poached eggs on toast $9 which i ordered. Came on a toasted Ciabatta bun, Hollandaise sauce $2- Delicious). The menu appeared very diverse and some other customers had some nice looking turkish food on their plate. Also had a health juice (Good as you'd expect).<br/><br/>Service: Couldn't fault the staff friendliness. We had to wait a little while for the food to get served but i guess that's expected in the second week of opening, and considering it was a Sunday morning and extremely busy. Was worth the wait. especially to admire the design of this place.

Funky and different. Had breakfast here on a Saturday morning. The fitout is super cool, using shisha pipes as light fittings, and lots of clean, crisp lines. Even the staff are sleek and pretty! It's a small breakfast menu but with lots of slightly unusual middle eastern/Turkish flavours mixed in with more modern fare - think hollandaise and dukkah, Turkish sausage (soujouk) with avocado and so on. We had variations on their eggs on toast, with avocado, soujouk, hash browns, smashed potatoes with spinach - all were perfectly cooked, especially the poached eggs, and while some elements could have had a little more salt that was easily fixed with the wee bottle of salt flakes on every table. The coffee was fantastic and they have a gun coffee-art barista too. A few teething problems with payment but all handled with a smile. I didn't get to try the nutella doughnuts, but they looked divine!
MEL: HOT OR NOT
The breakfast and lunch menu has cafe standards for the poached eggs-avocado-toast types but there’s a breakfast section devoted to more Turkish food and that’s where I encourage you to head. It’s always more fun to learn about unfamiliar ingredients when dining out. I decided to go for the grilled soujouk (Turkish sausage), potatoes, spinach, fried egg and dukkah ($16.50). A Turkish twist on the fry-up hangover breakfast if you will. It was a generously proportioned plate with lots of punchy flavours from the soujouk and the liberal scattering of nutty dukkah. I had this meal at 10am and didn’t eat again until dinner!
