Review Morning Star Hotel - Williamstown

Very nice local pub with a good choice of beer on tap and good food at a reasonable price. The place has a relaxed vibe and is good for family gatherings and catching up with mates.

The pub is great. Good vibes. Good ales. However, the restaurant wasn't so good! Over booked, under staffed, I ordered a steak cooked blue and got a well done one. Had to send it back. My daughter order a steak with mash and got fries. They said they'd bring a side of mash. They forgot it. She had almost finished her meal by the time it came. My partner ordered a property sauce and got red wine jus. My blue streak can't as all my table had finished their meals. Not at all impressed!! No offer of reduction on cost either. I would have insisted on that but my daughter had already paid. I won't be going back.

The Eye Fillet in the dining room was one of the best cuts of meat i have ever eaten, I would give it a 12/10, Therefore I had to eat my meal very slowly, as i was enjoying it that much. It would not have mattered what the rest of the meal was like, but presentation and the flavor of their chips were sensational.

There was a time when Williamstown had a pub on every corner many (most) have gone this one has survived. Great old building with an impressive façade. Simple, but welcoming front bar with a large renovated beer garden/courtyard. Food at the moment is very good in their lovely bistro. Also, the only pub in Williamstown to have an original horse trough outside front door. nice!

I rate the Morning Star as the star of Williamstown! Food is great but the beer choices are great with the added advantage of being served icy cold ! I travel a lot and this pub is right up there with any place I have been to! Mine Hosts Pat and Jeff are very nice also!

We have eaten there but also had our wedding reception there. Absolutely happy to recommend this place to everyone. From the delicious food to the friendly service you will leave with a huge smile on your face and a full tummy!

I really wanted this local to be a goodie but it was really bad. We both barely touched our food and left and ordered a pizza on the way home. If a pub can’t do a half decent parma there is a problem. The cheese was cheap and nasty, and slathered on in slabs and then not melted properly. The ham was also cheap and there was hardly a lick of tomato. No dressing on the salad. Chips just ok. We also had the ribs which were inedible and the coleslaw - the coleslaw, they have mixed bbq sauce through it - what the hell??? We were so confused. And the ribs were so fatty and drowned in nasty tasting sauce. It looked like dog food. The pub seemed busy so not sure if it’s just a watering hole? Shame as we love finding pooch friendly beer gardens but we will keep looking!

It is great to see a old venue with some new love and vibrancy . The food was average the chips were cooked in old dirty oil . Beers nice and cold but the staff are a bit to unknowledgeable . I will return I hope they work on there food and service 👌🏻

Had the Veal Saltimbocca from the specials board and as a regular visitor to this hotel this was the best meal I've had here in probably 5 years. Not that the meals have ever been above par for a pub.<br/><br/>Highly recommended.

An amazing meal tonight! I had Crispy Pork Belly Salad and my partner had Veal Saltimbocca.. Both were incredibly tasty. Wait staff as per usual were friendly and helpful. Thanks!

Used to adore this place, what's happened to the food?? Tough uninspiring pork belly and a very average barramundi with some sad half bash underneath and a salad I didn't even bother with. Used to be wonderful - I took someone new here last night based on that memory and was embarrassed.

I’m not too familiar with the history of the Morning Star Hotel though I’ve been once before. Sure, it looks to have seen its fair share of patrons and diners over the years, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It has a reputation for serving good gru

We're pretty new to the area and were thrilled when the Star served us such great food, with such great service. Been for a Sunday lunch in the sunny courtyard and a fab steak night so far.. Will be back for more asap! Thanks team

Dropped in on a Tuesday and had a great steak, looking forward to going back

Not a great dining experience!. Atlantic Salmon - overcooked and with a very nasty 'old' smell and taste - sent back, then served a very ordinary Vegetarian Bake - undercooked, boring vegies and then charged $30 for a glass of wine!<br/>It is a competative field in Williamstown with lots of restaurants to chose from - I will not be going back to the Morning Star<br/>It used to be a very nice place to dine, but it has got lazy and complacent!

Fantastic Experince. Myself and a group of friends decided to try the Morning Star on Friday night. So glad we booked as the restaurants was full. We had a fantastic time, the food was fantastic ( I had the 350g rub eye) the steak was cooked exactly as I ordered and the mushroom sauce was great!! Everyone on our table was happy with their meals. The staff did a great job also attending to our needs. Will definitely be back soon.

50 minutes on a half full weekend for a main course...when we enquired advised it was our choice which was the issue- steak takes a while.... <br/>Other main over cooked with v salty veg accompaniment. Won't rush back.

The food and service was ok. It's a nice place to hang out with friends. Didn't really like the owners' arrogant attitude.

Great place to go to avoid the hustle of the Main Street Williamstown eateries.<br/><br/>Hidden away in Electra street their menu is interesting as well as traditional.<br/><br/>The kitchen knows its stuff with hearty pub meals and surprisingly classy desserts.<br/><br/>Give it a go - and don't worry that's it's quiet.

Good service. Ate here over the weekend and the service was good. Although the food could use some work (found the food bland), it was nothing that stopped use from eating.<br/>Would be back if we were in the area again.

Just around the corner. We always have a most lovely waitress who remembers who we are, she's competent and knowledgeable. Tasty, great pub food.<br/><br/>The restaurant interior could definitely do with some TLC- floors & furniture. It's the only reason I wouldn't be inclined to recommend it to others but they have the food and the service so right.

Once my favourite local. Now a bitter disappointment. Ok so I didn't book, did not expect to be treated like a criminal. Geoff was not liking Victoria, so why make our life awkward. Buy a pub where no decorum required. Meal was average. The lovely linen table clothes gone, as we're pics that once decorated and gave ambience to this beautiful old pub. Go home and give us our pub back!

Good food, nice local great place for a function. I have been here a few times great food for a Pub above average best in Willy, I had my engagement party here their service was excellent & the food was also so excellent and of a high standard, alcohol flowed, also made fresh pots of tea & coffees for none drinkers, gave us great value for money instead of charging by the glass they just opened up a bottle wine, instead charging by the pot gave us jug of beer, same deal with soft drink tab of $1500 lasted for until 7.30pm function started at 2pm, no one was hungry or thirsty did not have to wait long for a drink great function venue

Yum. The food is just delicious ! The chips are a must to have with a steak or a parma, but really the whole menu is to try ! <br/>you wont leave hungry !

Good honest food. Great service. Good location. I'd recommend on a cold day for lunch, a nice drop of wine too. I will be back.

Enjoyable. We visit every now and then for lunch. Usually enjoyable food with friendly service. Interesting options, sometimes. Other times it is a bit of he common fare. However well presented and cooked. Good drink choices. Nothing greatly outstanding, but satisfying.

Too long. Went there for Saturday dinner waited over 2 hours for mains to come out, food ok, ordered steak to be done rare, came out well done, so hungry at this stage and did not want too return it I case had to wait longer. Complained to publican who seemed to think it was acceptable to wait that long for good service and quality food? Might have gone back again if he was not so rude to us.

Great dainty little pub. very attentive staff. went for a friends birthday and all enjoyed the meals. needless to say nobody left hungry, meals are more than adequate and beautiful!

Rude Manager, Good Food!. We ate here for my husbands birthday last month and mostly everyone's meal was good. They forgot one of the orders though so one of our friends had to eat her meal after everyone had finished (not ideal, but it was an oversight of the waitress). <br/>When it came to paying the bill I mentioned this to the staff member, and the owner/manager of the pub was nearby so entered the conversation. He was extremely rude and had THE worst customer service. He made us feel like it was our fault for the meal not coming out on time, and talked to his wife/colleague about us (and the poor waitress) as if we weren't even in front of him. <br/>We would like to go back and try more of the menu items, however we are torn due to the appalling customer service we received.

Yuck! Ordered porterhouse and received a scotch fillet with the plastic still wrapped around the outside of the steak after it was cooked. They forgot the sauce and it tasted stewed. Will never be back again even if they do have good chips.

Nice venue, but over-priced and over-rated. "Vegan-friendly"...hardly; only one vegetarian dish on offer, unless you're happy with a bowl of soup. Nice pub atmosphere, and the food was well prepared and the staff friendly and efficient. However, the menu is very over-priced. Given the other similar dining options in the immediate area, its probably not surprising that there were empty tables at the Morning Star, but you can't get in the door at the others on a Thursday night (i.e the Steampacket just down the road). Great place for a few drinks, but there are better options for a great pub meal in the area.

Morning star evening glory. I have dined there several times now and each time the food and service have been spot on. It is a favourite now for the special dinner, birthdays etc, especially as two of our family are long term vegetarians. Their verdict of the eggplant parmi is one of the best they've had ( and they have eaten a lot all over the country) . a menu to suit all tastes.

Had a great wind down on Friday night. We arrived around 6 and were there for a couple if hours. Very friendly staff. I didn't check out the restaurant side but might next time.

Pleasant dining experience. I dined at The Morning Star with my parents and 2 teenage sons for my 40th birthday recently. <br/>I wanted a place with a mature ambiance, but not too formal, nice wine glasses, cutlery and crockery, good quality food without being pretentious or too fancy, superior service and not too far from home (Point Cook).<br/>In my opinion the Morning Star delivered admirably on all counts. <br/>Attentive and knowledgeable wait staff who cleared empty plates and took drink orders efficiently without being pushy or intrusive.<br/>The food was delicious and cooked perfectly. I had a porterhouse steak with absolutely delightful creamy garlic sauce; the mash and crunchy vegetables were just as I had hoped. <br/>My parents enjoyed their swordfish, my 13 year old son devoured his entire parma, and my 16 year old was rapped with his rump, but struggled to finish it due only to it's size.<br/>A hidden treasure in Williamstown, away from the more well know 'eat streets', but this place comes highly recommended by me.

No longer cheeky, but is it still popular?. Not too familiar with the history of the Morning Star Hotel but it sure looks to have seen its fair share of patrons and diners over the years. That's not necessarily a bad thing.<br/><br/>The vintage feel of the front bar gives it that laid back ambiance; perfect for easy, cruisey drinking sessions on a warm summer's evening. The dining room has the same vibe, in spite of the white table cloth and fine silver cutleries. The wait staff--once (in)famous for being cheeky, sometimes bordering on obnoxious--are now friendly, polite and unobtrusive. The menu carries regular pub grub--steak, fish and chips, pasta, etc--with a touch of gourmet; although rather suspiciously, the humble parma is absent from the menu. A slight oversight, I'm sure. Overall, the food is nice.<br/><br/>Strangely, the place seems quiet on the few weeknights I've visited, but this is probably a different story during the weekends. Still, the question has to be asked in an almost empty dining room... where are the locals?
