Review Ms Kim - Williamstown

Wow! What a wonderful dining experience. The first thing you notice is the soothing view of the water mixed with the warm blues and white which make you feel you have left the suburbs. The staff are attentive and charming. The layout affords a cozy, yet private seating. The food was sensational, if I could have had one of everything I would have. A great mix of vegetables, seafood, poultry and red meat. Oh, and the cocktails! Let the waitstaff guide you, they know their stuff! Don't pass on this gem if you get the chance!

Sebastian's thoroughly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in the service was superb, with knowledgeable and attentive staff taking our food and drinks order promptly but without making us feel rushed at all. The cocktails were awesome and the food was delicious. Light, tasty and just right for a hot day. Our position in the alfresco dining area overlooked the beach and the ocean; simply stunning. It is a long way to go but we are looking forward to another visit.

Excellent value banquet meal in the private dining room. $80 per head for 4-6 entree and 2 mains 2 salads and desert. Kids menu for little ones. Lovely interior and view over Willy beach. Highly recommended.

Super impressive restaurant in an amazing location. Normally a great beach location means average experience, not here. A fantastic Basque influenced menu with superb service. An absolute must go.

First time dining at Sebastian's. We had a lovely experience, staff were very helpful and attentive. Food was very delicious. Absolutely loved the Basque cheesecake finish off the evening. Will be back to spend more time on the beautiful deck.

Excellent service with live music, it's a hotspot in this area. The shop is located in a wonderful location. There is a wide selection of food and beverages. What could be better than this? Sit and chill in beach-side on a nice day along with sipping cocktails watching the surrounding atmosphere.

I came here with my work DSV in a group of around 22. Amazing food, beautiful location and outstanding service. Your Team are top notch. Highly recommend to others.

Great service, delicious food, comfortable environment, wonderful location. We came for our anniversary and this was a perfect restaurant to make it a special occasion. We had croquetas, Basque crispy muscles, freekeh and cauliflower, snapper, heirloom tomatoes and Basque cheesecake with sangria and a cocktail. All delicious.

Have been wanting to try Ms Kim’s since it opened. Wasn’t disappointed. If you want cheap and slightly oily Vietnamese Footscray still serves a purpose. But this sort of quality and variety is long overdue in Williamstown. Started with the Vietnamese pancake and spring rolls. Loved both but the pancake was a standout. For mains we shared the seafood congee, beef stew, and barramundi clay pot. Robert and Kim were welcoming and the staff were on the ball. These guys are a long overdue edition to Williamstown. We’ll be back.

The food is fantastic! Kids loved the Pho... Delicious! Sticky ribs was amazing - a must have. Prawns were delicious.... Pork Spring Rolls... We pretty much tried everything including deserts which were also fresh & very tasty! Granted they have only been open for 5 days - few staff issues which is to be expected - have some patience & enjoy the food when it arrives. Highly recommended. Will be back very soon. Michael Parker & Family.

People of Williamstown unite . Loved the food. Great combinations of sweet, sour, spicy & crunch. Vegetarian options were tip top for one on my munchkins. I loved it . Banana fritter to finish . We shared 7 different plates nothing let us down. Highly recommended . I will be here frequently . Special mentions: Pork Ribs with apple salad , Vietnamese Pancake. Chicken Wings

Had a wonderful meal last Friday and returning again this Sunday. Food is absolutely delicious, fresh, authentic with a pinch of innovation- so not to drift too far from its roots. Kim and Robert have done a wonderful job creating an atmosphere that’s fresh, contemporary, cosy and inviting. Wine list was good, was it a 10/10 - no, but hey this is their first restaurant and they’re learning. Why wasn’t it a 10/10, it’s the little things about paying attention to your customer’s experience throughout the sitting - from when they sit down make sure they have glass and water first (settle them in). Then share the food and drink menu; explain the menu; help them with their choice; take the order and get their cutlery and drinks ready. Make sure when you’re ordering you listen to how they want they’re good served eg entree as main (couple next to us had their main meal served at separate times - ouch). Always observe every customer, check-in. Being friendly is wonderful, but deliverying great customer service sets you above the rest. So after a busy night, Kim took the time to sit down and chat with my friend Vicky and I, and shared her amazing experience on MKR, her family and background - and that it was their 2nd week, their making mistakes and learning. I know Kim will be a huge success, because she’s Passionate about what she’s doing and her humility and lack of ego will not derail her from moving towards her goals . Thank you for choosing Williamstown Kim, we need food like your in the neighbourhood. Remember: making mistakes is better than faking imperfections (way too many “chefs” in that category) and you know that mistakes have the power to turn you into something better than you were before.

First time at MsKim.mkr I am fussy with some herbs and spices however everything blended in nicely. Kim and husband happy to chat to us and others. Friendly staff great service. Will be going back to try different new dishes from the menu.

Brilliant service and the food was magnificent. Highly recommend

Over priced and sub quality $18 for a Pho you would get anywhere else for $12. Chicken curry was a laksa consistency and $23 without rice. Won't be going back!
Perron King
Lovely food. Patchy service (no water on table, slow) Will come back when they have found their groove.

Food was great. There were a few teething issues but overtime I am sure this will improve. Wishing you all the best guys

We let Kim pick lunch for us - she brought out spring rolls, Vietnamese pancake, sticky ribs, stew and rice. We absolutely loved everything!! Food, service and decor were all brilliant. We will definitely be regulars. Thanks Kim and Robert - welcome to Williamstown.

Delicious yummy food. We’ve been here quite a few times and the food is always 10/10. I’m really shocked by all the feedback on here because I’ve always had such a great experience. The food is seriously amazing and the service always great too. Definitely worth a try and by far the best restaurant in Williamstown.

Yikes.. long wait for food, with some of it not arriving at all.

Stupidly expensive. 4x the price of any other Vietnamese place in Footscray, But apparently this is fine dining,,.😂 umm ok. And the owner had a attitude problem when i asked how much longer I have to wait for my bowl of rice..which eventually arrived 30 mins after the accompanying dish. Food wasn't bad, but the poor service means I won't be back. Avoid .

We figured we would try this restaurant after finding a voucher in the entertainment book. The food was tasty, although quite overpriced considering you were not at a highly rated restaurant in the CBD. However we were left with a bad taste in our mouth when they wouldn't honour the Entertainment Book voucher that we presented when paying the bill that clearly states valid untill June 2020. If there is an issue, take it up with the Entertainment Book provider, it's false advertising to the consumer!

Tonight was the second time we have been to ms Kim , the first time we made a booking 3 weeks in advance for 8 people for my daughters 21st birthday dinner , we arrived at the restaurant to no table for us , it was July and we waited outside in the cold for a table to be made available only for someone else to enter the restaurant and be given the table that was being cleared for us . Needless to say we left and went elsewhere for dinner . Fast forward 2 1/2 yrs and we thought we would give them another chance , we booked a table for 4 online only to arrive at the restaurant and be told they don’t check their online bookings when they are busy ...... if you can’t check them don’t offer that service on your website . We were given a table outside which was fine . We arrived at 7.30 pm and ordered 4 entree and 4 mains . First entree arrived at 8.25pm second at 8.35pm then nothing for the other 2 ppl . We waited a further 10 mins then asked if the other 2 entree were going to be much longer to be told they would be out soon . 9pm came and still 2 ppl on our table hadn’t had their entree we decided to leave and find somewhere else for dinner. We were charged $66.00 for 2 sparkling waters , 1 coke , 1 beer ,1 cider and the 2 entrees we did receive. Not even an offer of a drink on the house as an apology for the terrible service. Fair to say we will not be going back for a third time . Word of mouth is very powerful and we will definitely not be recommending ms Kim .

Food was nice and fresh. Long wait for food after entrees though. Night ended unpleasantly when manager was quite short with us about not honouring a valid entertainment book voucher... said he tried to contact ent book about wanting to be removed. Sorry but that’s not our issue... you should honour it until the end of the book period, or at least put a sign up. Unlikely to return or recommend after attitude of that manager.

Have dined here before but won’t be returning.
Had been here a few times with friends and family and experienced so-so service but was willing to give it another try.
Dined solo this time and was given a seat at the bar - not a problem- but... waited 45 minutes for a bowl of soup and roti bread ( which I saw from my vantage point in to the kitchen is your basic store bought packaged roti ).
Felt insulted by front of house guy who commented on my appearance and said when I left “ hope you look better next time you are here “
Also asked to take home the remainder of the soup ( delicious ) as I couldn’t finish it and a takeaway container was literally plonked on the bench beside me - DIY take away.
Expensive food and haphazard service : clearly more wait staff is necessary but the insult, given I had been there several times well - I won’t return.

I lived in the US for years so I was confused by the difference between “ Entree” and “Main” on the menu. The owner explained to me that an Entree is just a small dish in a condescending way and started to treat my table poorly afterwards......I might need to thank the owner for letting me know something new about Australia today, but I can hardly say it was an enjoyable dining experience at this place. The food was ok.
Johnny
Had a horrible lunch experience here. Waited more than 50 minutes for a noodle and a rice dish :( The guests next to us ordered the same food later than us and got served earlier and even finished their food before our food came :( No menu provided until we asked 15 mins later :( No water is provided during the entire dining process :( The food is ok but we really felt disrespected and ignored on purpose. What’s so different about us compared with the other guests?

I highly rate this restaurant, the service and food were both outstanding.
We had the 6 course feed me menu and it just keep getting better and better.
Certainly my favourite Vietnamese restaurant in the area.
Cannot wait to return.

I had one of the most disappointing food experiences of my life last night, MKR finalists who?
Great you go into the finals on TV, but you can’t run a restaurant to save your life.

First of all, so we are vegetarian, but it’s 2019 and this restaurant is in inner Melbourne. Sorry but you should know how to cater properly to vegetarians, not just removing meat from dishes and replacing it with veggies as an afterthought because you don’t know how to cook proper vegetarian food with flavour. We ordered our vegetarian entrees and mains at the same time as everyone else on our party, yet everyone else had finished their mains before we even got entrees. They’d obviously forgotten. No apology. We eventually got bland seemingly store-bought spring rolls and a Vietnamese pancake costing $21 that has nothing but bean shoots.
When we got our mains about half an hour later the ‘salt and pepper’ tofu was 4 pieces of bland frozen puffs of tofu you can buy from the supermarket. No salt and pepper flavour to be seen for $21 with some slaw on the side. And don’t get me started on the Buddha’s delight vegetable stew. $26 and was sour, vinegary and inedible. We sent it back and the server argued with us twice about it. 2 other people on our table tried it and said they couldn’t eat it either.

Don’t bother with this overpriced pretentious food, much better Vietnamese can be found in Footscray with half the price and a little bit more attention to flavour and good old service. Try next door at Madame K’s for completely vegan food which doesn’t cost you an arm and leg and truly understands you don’t need to be punished in flavour for having dietary requirements.

Best Asian food in town. Great dining experience with awesome service. Food was high quality. Asian flavours were 5 star. Was not disappointed. Highly recommend. Already looking forward to going back.

Everything about Ms Kim is amazing! Such a fantastic dining experience. The food is so fresh and delicious and the service friendly and efficient. Even the drinks we had were delicious. I would highly recommend Ms Kim to anyone looking for delicious, modern Vietnamese food and fantastic service. I highly recommend the Roast pork banh mi, Sticky Pork Ribs with apple salad and the Salt and Pepper Calamari with orange salad. Yum! The coconut panacotta with seasonal fruits for dessert was delicious too. The Lychee and Ginger Fizz was also very refreshing. 10 out of 10 Ms Kim! Loved everything about this place!

Awesome food. Service was amazing, Very friendly.
The Banh Xeo was delicious! The beef wagyu rice paper rolls were so so good.
They found out it was my birthday and brought out a small cake at the end of the night and sang Happy Birthday it was super nice. Loved it and will 100% be going back-Thank you xxxx-

Food and service were great. Recommend the Banh Mi, we all enjoyed it. Spring rolls ( wrapped in lettuce leaves) was also good as was the salt & Pepper calamari and Vietnamese beef.
Will definitely go back!

I had lunch with my friend, the first time we’d been. The staff were so attentive and friendly. The food was amazing! Not only tasted amazing but looked so good as well. We’ll definitely be going back!

Reallllll Disappointing, nothing special. Def not worth the price. Go St albans or Sunshine or footscray. Half the price and double the taste and satisfaction.

We finally went to Ms Kim today and let me tell you...this place is a 10 out of 10 in every way!!
Its by far the best Vietnamese i've had and the friendlyness and kindness of Kim and her family is just amazing!
They really are very down to earth and genuine people.
The Banh Xeo was so delicious! The barramundi in clay pot was the perfect amount of spicy and the beef wagyu rice paper rolls were so fresh.
We could not fault a single thing about this place and we will definately be returning on a regular basis.

A must try in Williamstown. Amazing staff. Great atmosphere. Great food. Lamb rack as a special two thumbs up. Coconut pudding, don’t hesitate just order it; you won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely fantastic experience and will be back over & over again! Such a great feel! From the moment we walked in we were greeted so warmly. The food was delicious!

Amazing food and very personal, friendly service. The Sticky Pork Ribs with Apple Slaw is to die for.
The decor is smart yet cosy, and the cocktails are as delicious as the food.
This is quickly becoming my fav restaurant.
Exceptional!

Best Vietnamese food I’ve ever had! We were lucky enough to have a banquet at our Christmas party and got to try many dishes - every single one was delicious. Can’t wait to come back with family and friends. Loved it!
I Love Food
Dined for dinner last night. This restaurant is by Kim Tran, one half of Kim & Suong from this year's MKR tv show/competition. We shared the sticky pork ribs with apple salad, caramelised barramundi in claypot with recommended herbal rice & roti. For dessert we got the coconut pudding with seasonal fruit. I also had the lychee, ginger & mint fizz mocktail. Both food & drinks were delicious & well presented. Slight negative for us was the price as very expensive for what you get. $35 for barramundi, $33 for pork ribs which was only 4 pieces, dessert $16 & mocktail $13 (most expensive mocktail I've ever ordered anywhere to date). Service was friendly however staff need to be trained on being more attentive. Hope to return & try other menu items as overall we enjoyed the food.

Keeping up with my theme of eating out at TV chefs from MKR restaurants wondered out for some Vietnamese.
We really enjoyed the soup was 10 / 10, the ribs with tamarind was melt in your mouth. The lamb was also greag too. The Paw paw salad with wagu could have done with a touch more chilli.
Overall servings were on the smaller side and service was a little lacking as we did have to follow up on a couple of dishes.
But it was lovely to meet Kim and her husband as we watched her mingle with her diners and had a very good chat with us too

Great place in the centre of Williamstown. The decor is fresh and fun, and the food and service are great. We tried the Vietnamese chicken rice, banh xeo and coconut pudding and were not disappointed. Bold fresh flavours and meticulous presentation.

A very nice ambience with fresh and tasty food. We had the Wagyu beef with the Vietnamese salad, Salt & Pepper Calamari and a Pork & Prawn meatball soup that is relatively new to the menu. The salad was delicious. The soup was also very tasty but I needed to get a side of rice to fill me up. The let down is the pricing for mains at dinner. Not sure how long she’ll survive when competing with established competitors nearby who provide large serves for a lot less.
Leslie
Overall wasn’t a pleasant experience, waited 40minutes for our mains, with nil service on a not so busy night.
As we were left alone whilst Kim’s husband was busy speaking to the other regulars.. when we felt a bit distant and neglected.. but overall decent atmosphere and homey food like return back home to your mums cooking.
Karen D
Thank you Kim and co. I had the prawn and pork pancake and it was absolutely delicious. Each bite was as good as the first, as the flavours were well balanced throughout. The herbs were a perfect addition to the crunchy pancake which I thought would be heavy but it was in fact light. I will definitely be back to try the other menu items.
Food And Wines
We visited this venue couples of time. Very happy with its ambient, foods and the "just right amount of attentive" service from the female staffs before. But my last visit yesterday was a disaster. There was a gentleman, who is behind the bar and without the uniform, I guessed he is the owner. He was shouting and talking very loud since the moment I stepped in the door. His face was red so I guess he had some alcohol before service. He kept raising his voice and it made me feel very uncomfortable. We decided to take away the food and left.
Can't say that I will be back there next time.

Lovely ambiance liked the lanterns.
Staff friendly and tried hard but dishes very small for the price. A little over priced for what was on offer Not sure I would recommend.
Wine And Food Lovers
Loved the atmosphere of Ms Kim’s it is bright & beautiful, the satin lanterns are a gorgeous touch as is the open fire.
Food was tasty it could have used a bit more spice but the flavours were fresh & delicious. Loved the beef paw paw salad.
Service needs a like bit refined, some staff were excellent others lacked confidence. It is still early days so i am sure this will improve.
Was a bit pricey but worth a good night out.
Sharyn Hartson
Lovely staff, good service but the food is expensive for Vietnamese and the flavours nothing special for the premium price! The cocktail list is inventive but again 20% over city prices, perhaps to compensate for Williamstown rental costs.
Lucia Rivarolo
Delicious food. A little on the pricey side but definitely worth it. We had the pancakes, rice paper rolls, sticky pork, ginger chicken and barramundi. My favourite was the pork. Can’t wait to go back.

First time at Ms Kim for some modern vietnamese style food. Came here last night for a friend birthday and we ordered a few dishes. Each dish was spot on and delicious. The customer service is friendly and Rob and Kim was very welcoming. Definitely be back again to dine.

Yum yum yum!!! So excited Kim chose Williamstown for her new restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious! Can’t wait to go back. The staff was lovely too. Very friendly and fun!

My new local Vietnamese restaurant no more Footscray drives for me! Great staff and each dish is so fresh, a flavor explosion in every dish. Absolutely amazing, and they do take away if you’re on the go. You will want to come back for more.
Foodme
Tldr; top quality food, top notch service, 11/10 love. Coming back again and again.

I know what you're thinking. Why in the hell would I eat here when I can get cheap Viet food from my local Viet hub? WELL. You just couldn't compare the two. Ms Kim is working hard to change the long endured Viet status of cheap and tasty with her delicious take on traditional dishes and e.x.c.e.p.t.i.o.n.a.l customer service.

We turned up on a buzzing Thursday night without a booking and sat at the bar which gave us opportunity to observe and banter with the staff. Unlike your usual Viet joints, the staff here want to get to know you and no table was left neglected. All this while food was brought out fairly quickly.

The Vietnamese pancake (banh xeo) was light and crispy, and weird as it sounds, every bite tasted fresh. I'm a messy eater so the nuoc mam ended up running down my arm.

Pork and prawn in mustard greens soup took me back to mom's kitchen. The greens make it healthy, the taste makes it home. I called mom to say I loved her thinking about this dish the next day. 🤭

The barramundi claypot was perfectly cooked, and beef stew was full of hearty flavour. The beef itself was moist and fall-apart tender.

Cocktails are a must, especially the Good Morning Vietnam. It is SO bloody dangerous.

Kim, Rob, Zoli and Harley's efforts to make you feel at home don't go unnoticed. I could go on about the conversations and belly aching laughter we had that evening but it's better for you to experience it yourself. And they're more than happy to pose for photos.

A fantastic meal of delicious & comforting food (full of flavour), unique & tasty cocktails with a Vietnamese flare with friendly top notch service! They truly want you to enjoy their food and atmosphere. We had the Vietnamese Pancake, Caramelised Barramundi, Pork & Prawn soup with mustard green vegetable and Vietnamese Beef Stew. All dishes were thoroughly enjoyed! Will be back again for sure.

Love the atmosohere and the service is amazing. The barrumundi was oozing with flavour and the apple salad complimented the pork dish so well!

@ Ms Kim today - Every dish brought out was beautifully presented and delicious! My Invited lunch guests were very impressed with the restaurant interior design, the quality of food and the memorable palate of authentic Vietnamese cuisine! Big thumbs up 👍🏻
Absolutely outstanding food; the Beef Stew is a standout, Vietnamese Chicken Rice is delicious, and Crispy Chicken Wings were a great entree.

Unfortunately a little unorganised at front of house, and the kitchen had ran out of barramundi and pork but had to tell us after choosing and ordering our mains. This didn't sour the meal however - my second pick (the stew) was one of the tastiest things I've eaten all year.

Wow.

We weren't sure what to expect, with Nelson Place boasting a fair few decidedly average tourist traps, but have just enjoyed a lovely night at Ms. Kim.

The place was packed, so we were grateful to be able to sit at the bar and enjoy the new space. The ambience was great... vibrant, fresh colours with just the right amount of light and noise; and the service friendly and efficient.

We shared roast pork rice paper rolls to start, with a lovely dry Alsace riesling, followed by a rich, rather French beef stew with a Vietnamese twist and a deliciously light and fresh wagyu salad with crackers.

Upon recommendation we shared (alright, maybe I ate the whole thing but let's pretend for a second that I didn't hog the spoon) the coconut pudding for dessert... a gorgeous pannacotta bursting with fresh coconut flavour, with a delicious compote comprising strawberries, kiwifruit and lychee. Yum.

Cheers Ms. Kim for the lovely meal... you're a welcome addition to Willy!

Lovely lunch we had at MsKim today! I was a fan from watching her in MKR.

Before I go on with my review, MsKim is not your typical Vietnamese restaurant you usually go to in Melbourne. It is quite unique since Ms Kim herself has brought some Australian and Vietnamese styles and fuse them nicely together in harmony, so expect the nice surprises in the food here!

Flavours are awesome and may I add you get what you pay for! Portion is quite big and filling, my friend struggled to finish the barramundi soup!

I got the grilled pork with rice and herb salad and I love it. Love the fish sauce! (the trick to most Viet dish is indeed in the fish sauce)

I did get to try the barramundi soup, and since I am Viet and born in Viet and live there for 17 years, I say it is delicious and spot on!

And I did get to try my friend's favourite beef stew, one word: YES! Flavours and consistency hit all the right spots!

Dessert, I got the coconut sticky date pudding. OH MY! She gave the traditional coconut pudding a twist, a great one! Who doesn't love coconut! It is not as heavy as the usual sticky date, instead, the coconut sauce make it refreshed an light! Coconut ice cream: uhm... can I have some more? I feel like 2 small scoops is not enough! :)

Thanks again for a nice meal, I know I won't be hesitate to come back for more with even more friends!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Sadly I am unable to review this restaurant. After standing outside in the cold for over 20 minutes (even though we had a booking) our table was given away to another group!
Sadly unprofessional and no offer of compensation or even concern that they had messed up my friend's birthday dinner.
Will absolutely need to improve if they want customers
