Review Siam Orchid Restaurant - Williamstown

Nicholas Boyson
Amazing food, reasonable value. Service seemed a bit slow, but the quality of the food and staff friendliness overcame that.

I have eaten here for over 6 years. I have found the service extremely good and polite. They always greet me by name and remember our order as well. There food is always of a extremely high standard and I must say I have never had a bad experience here. I recommend this very highly for food and service..

We asked for gluten free for medical reasons and didn't get it. It was lucky we spotted the vegetarian chicken as it has gluten. It could have been serious. Other than that the meal was well presented and tasty.

Picked up takeaway spring rolls very average, beef stir fry with lemongrass and chilli well below standard beef was very dry like a cheap cut would be, hardly any chillie or real thai flavours. Chicken rice average, pork sweet and sour average. Roti bread average. Service was ok but all in all will not be returning. Waste of $56 and sad let down for Williamstown restaurant strip.

Ok Thai but I wouldn't rave about it. It was surprisingly busy for a weds night though. They lost our drinks and entree order but worked it out fairly quickly. We found both the pad Thai and pad gratium average. I much prefer Wild Rice Thai restaurant nearby.

It's changed hands. Vegetarian/vegan restaurant, not cheap but good. Loved our desserts. Can't remember the new name right now.

Excellent food and great service. This is our favourite Thai restaurant in Melbourne.

Ambient Thai restaurant offering generous portioned sized meals. Their roast duck red curry tasted delicious and hits the spot for anyone who enjoys that hint of spiciness. The siam orchid basket was crispy and each piece was coated with a nice thin layer of batter. I would have loved to try their sticky rice mango, but unfortunately mangoes were not available. Recommended.

One of Williamstown most favourite restaurants by the community, fresh authentic Thai food, served amongst well presented table settings and friendly staff. We tried it all 😍 and didn't break the bank account

Admittedly the interior of Siam Orchid Thai Restaurant is a little dated and that in itself may be a little off-putting for some. My partner and I were in Williamstown for the weekend and decided on this restaurant as they had extremely good reviews.<br/><br/>Siam Orchid served a delicious array of authentic Thai dishes that made our evening even more magical. We started with the Mixed Entree, the Satay Skewers being the standout, followed by a large serving of Coconut Rice, Mussaman Beef and Chicken Pad Nammun Hoy. <br/><br/>We finished our dishes feeling satisfied and delighted by the overall experience. Perhaps the only down-side to the evening was that they didn't have a full bar. When my partner ordered a Jim Bean and Coke, he received the premixed version as they had no spirits, other than the usual wine list.

Went here last night for a casual dinner with a friend after a craving for Thai food. Was a nice quiet place to go and that staff were very friendly apart from one person who really didn't look like they wanted to be there. We ordered roti bread with peanut sauce for an entree which took longer than it should have to come out considering how quiet the place was. To be honest, it wasn't the best tasting entree I'd ever had. The mains followed closely and were delicious. The coconut rice was amazing as were the noodles and red curry. All in all, is a great place to go for a nice meal which is very reasonably priced. Maybe it was a one off with the customer service of one of the waitresses and the time it took to bring out the entree.

We visited Siam Orchid based on the reviews here, only to be disappointed. This place didn't live up to its reputation. There was only two of us and we had a one hour wait for our mains on a night that wasn't overly busy. The stir fry was way too salty and my partner found it inedible. The Thai fried rice was missing a core ingredient in the pineapple. The staff were friendly, place is clean, but as a local I doubt I will dine here again

Only had Siam Orchid for pick up and delivery so far, but yet to be disappointed. Staff are lovely, there's never a long wait time and it's very reasonably priced. The massuman curry is highly recommended, so too the Tom Ka Gai with its rich coconut taste!
Shane
Food is delicious! Their Thai green chicken curry is one of he best I've ever had! The decor is a bit outdated but the location, good food and friendly staff make up for that!

Walking in to the place, we certainly didn't expect this random restaurant to have given us such a great experience! Siam Orchid is your typical Thai restaurant, located along the stretch of other eateries in Williamstown. I was genuinely surprised by the food authenticity and how well priced our bill was by the end of the night. This is definitely the new favourite Thai place in my new hood! Best of all it's BYO so there you go ;)

Lots of flavour, colour and fragrance. The food here is what I would expect of a Thai restaurant. The staff are lovely and the food is great. From what I remember it's reasonably priced. Enjoy!

Good thai food in Williamstown. Service was attentive. Restaurant was busy and vibrant. <br/>Menu includes fairly standard options, we had the whole snapper steamed with ginger and the fish was cooked beautifully, the dish would have been even bitter with some stronger flavours of sweet, sour and chilli.
Amanda
Waited an hour for our mains.. but it sure was worth it! We got a few dishes and shared and everything was great. Loved the red duck curry. Would definately return here :)

Pleasant place for family dinners. Casual and comfy ambience. Good for a easy laid back dinner after a day at beach. The food is good but not great. Warm staff and good service. The Tom yum and the coconut ice cream dessert are amazing to try.

Spiros & Cathy. We have been local regulars of this great Williamstown institution since 2003. The staff led by Tina a just so beautiful and wonderful. The food never disappoints and in particular am addicted to the no 44 Kao Pad Thai style fried rice and the chive type dumplings entrée. We are endorsing what is common knowledge as one of the best restaurants in Willi. and we hope that they are here for a very long time. They work so hard to please they deserve every success.

14th November 2014.. Have just visited for dinner. Really friendly staff and great food at a reasonable price. Prompt service. Lovely experience.

Love it go here all the time . Owner knows me by name when I ring up to book, so good. I've been meaning to positive review it for ages. Well deserved 10/10 !

You can tell a good Thai restaurant by its Tom Yum Goong. Thai Tom Yum Goong served at a good Thai restaurant is a wonderfully powerful, aromatic, complex delight.<br/>Siam Orchid serves a weak, limp imitation which is missing some of the essential ingredients. <br/>Very disappointed.<br/>When the mains arrived, unfortunately, the many dishes delivered to our table were not what we had ordered....<br/>Find a better local Thai restaurant or travel further to find a good one like Sukhothai in Northcote.

Fresh!. I've visited Siam Orchid with a large group and another time with my husband, and both dining experiences were positive. The food is fresh, with a great variety, the service is impeccable, and it's very reasonably priced. Bookings are strongly recommended, especially for Saturday evenings.

Went to the restaurant tonight and both the curry & pad Thai was excellent. The prawn salad main though was disappointing in both flavour and size. Even though it was a main, it is served in an entree size plate. Sweet & sour chicken was also just average. I would go back for the curry, but will steer away from the salad and sweet & sour.

Great Thai food at a great price!. My wife and I eat in or get takeaway from Siam Orchid at least once a fortnight. We have never had a bad experience. The staff are attentive and friendly. We take our two small children with us and they are always interacting with them as well having some child friendly cups, plates and cutlery which helps a lot.<br/>The Green Curry is our favourite and is the best I have ever had.<br/>Price is reasonable, food quality is great and service is always friendly.<br/>Going to miss the restaurant when I move from the area. <br/>Recommend this place highly!

Awesome Thai. We used to drive down to Laverton (yes Laverton, Fresh Chili Thai is the best ive every had, however over crowded), now given Siam another go, after trying it a couple of years ago, WOW. Great fresh Thai Food. Try the Penang sizzling steak, so tender, and the flavour
Anakie77
BEST THAI in Melbourne! Food is amazing. Pork spring rolls insanely delicious, pad ped pork full of flavour. Been going here to eat for 8 years and won't stop EVER!!!
Bryan Hellstrom
Awesome food, great taste, will be going back for sure.

Moved to Willi recently & was told this place was the locals fav. OMG !!! They can't be serious. If this place was in the East it wouldn't rate a mention. Food ok at best. Service laughable.

The most AMAZING thai food we've had! Everything exceeded our expectations. We had the thai spring rolls and roti for entree, pad Thai, pad pag tao hoo (#66) and coconut rice. All were SO good I just had to write a review

Very nice meals would be highly recommended friendly staff make you feel welcome

The food was underwhelming to say the least. Don't get me wrong, it wasnt awful, but neither was it authentic as they claim to be on the shop front. The pad Thai which is normally my favourite was a real disappointment as it was soggy and overly sweet. Not my pick for Thai food.

Nom nom nom!. I get Thai from Siam pretty much weekly. They offer fantastic food and great service. I can't eat Thai anywhere else, it's never as amazing!<br/><br/>The pad med mamuang is delicious!
Brando The Pig
Legit Thai food that tastes great and nails the sweet, salty, spicy, sour balance. The coconut rice was fluffy yet flavorsome, the stir fry chicken was like it was cooked in Thailand, and while the duck curry was a small serving, the curry was beautiful. Worth a stopover if in the area and/or craving good thai
Heather Hughes
Good authentic Thai food. I enjoyed the food here. Lots of nice fresh flavours. Service was good.
Sweetie Pie
Great food, fresh flavours. Although quite crowded and very very noisy. Service was average, but overall I do recommend Siam Orchid, it's clean, fresh flavours are winners!

Good food >). The food is fresh and tasty and it's very affordable, and the coconut rice is perfect!!<br/><br/>Staff lovely.

Not real Thai. I dont like to write negative reviews but, when you claim to be a Thai restaurant please serve Thai food. Not "Asian Food for an Australian Market"<br/><br/>I am Thai and I can tell you 100% this is NOT real Thai.<br/>I asked for a very simple Thai dish and was told "its not on the menu so we cant do it". I understand if it was a busy night, but I was there on a Wednesday with very very few people inside.
Ants
One of my favourite Thai restaurants, food it great, staff are polite and it's never a let down!

Very consistent excellent food. I have eaten here many times the food is always good & of a high standard, well priced. The staff are always polite, would have no hesitation recommending coming here for a meal I wish more restaurants where this consistent with quality of their meals
Steven Frank
We booked for 13 people a month in advance, they set table for 12 then told us no room for us all.<br/>They didn't care whether we stayed or went.<br/>So much for Thai hospitality <br/>Poor service irrespective of quality of food<br/>Won't return ever
Julesdm13
What a lovely meal!! I had the king prawn salad, really nice and light. 8 people and everyone loved the food
Nicole Sposito Thompson
Love the food ... The must have is the Thai fried rice.. Always a good exp and fast service
Adam B
Really enjoyed it. Beautiful sweet fluffy coconut rice, tasty entire of chive dumplings and a rich red chicken curry with real quality chicken breast. Good service and packed on a Saturday night. May not be street Thai food but great quality taste and good prices. Thumbs up!

Best Thai Restaurant in the WORLD!. Without a doubt! Mixed entree, seafood curry, stir fried vegtables with bean curd, 3 topping snapper, pad thai noodles, chive dumPlings. These are my favourites.

Great Thai. Have been coming here for many many years and always leave impressed<br/><br/>I have been to Thailand and eaten traditional Thai food many times, and some items on Siam Orchard’s menu are not so traditional, but everything they do serve tastes delicious. We have always left feeling satisfied.<br/><br/>I have found some items a little too oily for my liking, but hey, it’s Thai food!<br/><br/>Highly recommend.

Good Honest Aussie Thai. Our youngest calls the Siam Orchard "Akward Sam" , a term of endearment well deserved over many visits. Family friendly, the food is Thai cooked to the Australian palate. Everything is of consistently good quality at affordable prices. Nothing fancy , no bells and whistles and certainly no hatted dishes. But just the right stuff for a good, satisfying night out. Highly recommended.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm! :). Not a huge follower of Thai food, but this place has never served any food that I did not like. <br/><br/>Staff are polite and efficient 9/10.<br/><br/>Food is sensational (try the panang curry! and the coconut rice is to die for!!!!) 10/10.<br/><br/>Value for money 8.5/10.<br/><br/>Great lace overall - with the only down side being the wooden floors making the ambient volume a bit high, but in comparison to everything else - its not a concern :)
Delishus
Nelson Place favorite. Polite service and value for money.<br/>The dishes are nice. A little too westernised but still good.<br/>Would probably go back as there is not much else worth it on Nelson Place these days.
Michael
BEST THAI IN MELBOURNE!. My partner and I have been going to Siam Orchid for years and we always bring friends and family when we get the chance because the food is always consistently great and the service is fantastic as you can really see it's run by a great family. I highly recommend the sizzling steak! Everything is great value as well.

Best Thai in Melbourne. Hubby and myself have been going to Siam for over 7 years now.. Have been to all Thai Restaurants around Melbourne and can honestly say that this one place is the best by far! This might sound weird but one of the reasons why i love this place so much is that meat and poultry that they use in their dishes is never fatty - by that i mean ive never had the unfortunate experience at Siam of having to bite into a piece of chicken gristle within my Panang Curry! For me, the slightest bit of fat or gristle in my food will put me off the entire meal! <br/><br/>The services is great, the owners are more than friendly and very welcoming and make us feel very welcomed every time we dine here. Prices are average and have never been disappointed with the food!

To Like or Not to Like? That is the question.... So here's the thing... I've travelled through South East Asia pretty extensively and visited Thailand in particular numerous times; and I LOVE Thai food. Especially street food- the real grass-roots stuff that is sold by ladies that speak no English, specialise in one dish and sell usually only to the locals. As such, its safe to say I have high expectations...<br/><br/>For this reason I was somewhat dissapointed in Siam Orchid Thai- very little traditional food, and a whole lot of mainstream Thai directed at the Western palate (which I can kind of understand seeing as we're in Melbourne and all). Taking this into consideration I ordered some 'safe' mainstream dishes- the ones you can't get wrong (think pad thai, massaman curry, satay etc).<br/><br/>Folks.... It wasn't great. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't awful (except the Pad Thai.... what a bitter dissapointment!), but it wasn't great either. The Massaman Curry was yummy and creamy, but that was it and I left feeling unsatisfied.<br/><br/>In summary- if you're after everyday, mainstream Thai give it a go. If you've been to Thailand and know what Thai food should taste like, give it a miss- you'll probably be disappointed.
Richo
Look at the other reviews too, public opinion says it all. I have to say that this touristy part of Williamstown has very little to recommend it with respect to food on the whole. Over priced and poor quality have been the Richo family experience.<br/><br/>Siam Orchid is a notable exception to the above rule. We actually hadn't been there since the baby Richo was in utero nearly five years ago, but it was a consistent favourite back then. We returned with baby Richo very much in vivo and had a really good meal. Nothing fancy, just good solid curries, noodle dishes. The deep fried offerings were only mediocre (spring rolls, prawns etc) but we all came out feeling well satisfied and full. The brisk take-away business attests to a sound local reputation. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

Great Food. This is my favourite Thai restaurant. The satay chicken skewers are outstanding but all the food is really very good. The service is attentive if not the friendliest around. The meals are very well priced. I advise you book, it is always packed out.
Constance Hughes
One of the best eats on Nelson Place. Some of the best Thai food I have ever had. Siam Orchid is always packed out whenever I go. The chicken yellow curry is to die for- make sure you order it with coconut rice and some roti.<br/><br/>Not the most friendly staff I have seen; not so much rude, but they do seem very disinterested and unhappy. However don't let that get in the way of a good feed.

Great Thai food, best coconut rice

Love the food and service. Love the food, especially the curry puffs. Our waiter, David, was very nice, polite and good looking,

The food was really nice however their table service is not that crash hot. I'll be back though because the food was good!!!

Visited on Saturday evening with friends. The food is very tasty, well priced and the servings very ample. A must to visit.

I have missed the exceptional but yet affordable Thai restaurants in Sydney since moving to Melbourne a year ago. Hence imagine my ecstacy when I was introduced to Siam Orchid by a friend and I almost felt like I was dining in Newtown again. Tasteful decor, swift efficient service and the noise level was surprisingly acceptable for a busy Saturday night. The mains were well-timed and came all at once. We had roast duck red curry, grilled pork, fish with 3-flavoured sauce and papaya salad. Each dish was bang-on for the money and flavour. This is easily the best Thai food I have had in Melbourne for less than $25 per person.

We love this restaurant, the food is delicious. Highly recommended.
