Review Schwabs Galley - Williamstown

Sunday morning breaky was on cards. This little quint Cafe was busy not just for coffee but patrons were sitting down for breakfast also. Coffee was one of the best I have had. Complimented the barista On the same. Nice coffee makes a day great no matter the time. Avo with scrambled eggs felt like a little rip off for the price but eggs your way were nice. Little surprise was the micro greens that went with it. Vanilla slice was also great and would recommend. Would I come back - Yes

This the second time I have been there & they've great coffee, not like most of the places long the strip. The staffs are very welcoming. The cakes are delicious too. Big thanks to Angela.

Waited 30 minutes for a toastie and a Spanakopita to be reheated. In the end arrived barely warm. Young staff were very under the pump but polite. Management disorganised and very rude. Lots of unhappy customers while I was there. Don’t bother!

Friendly staff here. Tasty cakes (vanilla slice) and coffees. Was quiet when we visited. Food was served promptly by very cheerful staff. No fuss and was a pleasant experience. Recommended

Great coffee and range of vegan desserts! Staff are friendly and accommodating! Best in Williamstown!

ordered two drinks & two cakes, staff were not polite and they took 20 minutes to make one coffee and one iced chocolate when we and another woman were the only ones waiting, the worker stares at us for like 5 minutes it was weird, cakes were all dry and had little flavour

Very dissatisfied. Very poor indeed. Tiny bit of filling in sandwiches, and not at all worth the price. To the point of frugal. If you want a good sandwich go elsewhere.

Very dissatisfied with this place. Ordered vegetarian foccacia, and it had hardly any filling in it at all. What a rip off. Not worth anything like what they are charging and they are clearly skimping out on people. Never buying from here again.

Purchase some coffee and sweets here. My kids did not want to have cake so went and bought some ice cream next door. When they came back we were promptly told that they could not sit with us at the tables as it was for the cafe customers only. When I told them that we bought coffee and cake, the snooty lady said that it says it on the sign. So my kids had to stand up next to us whilst we had our coffee. <br/>Unfortunately common sense isn’t very common. <br/>Will not be taking any of my family here again! Furthermore will be sharing this story with all my friends too.

Welcome to Schwabs, with arguably the most intellectually challenging customer service in Williamstown. On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, sitting outside in the otherwise chilling wind, enjoying a coffe (from Schwabs) and an ice cream (from next door) we were suddenly reminded that we could not have the ice cream there, because it was a coffee place. I am quite sure I have several of you who would agree that coffee and ice cream goes well together, sitting down just enjoying the day, even more so with only two of the eight outdoor tables occupied. So with this interesting approach to service, I would enjoy other views. (btw took the coffee to the outdoor tables at the ice cream shop. They did not seem to have the same regulations)

My visiting guest (and recent vanilla slice enthusiast) Flaky J and I fancied a cycle, so we left Essendon and followed the Maribryrong river all the way to Williamstown. We dismounted the bikes and took shelter from the drizzle at Schwabs Galley. The customary vanilla slice was ordered, halved and set upon like rabid dogs. The portion, though tall and proud was slightly small and expensive for the $6 price tag. The actual quality was also lacking, with the pastry rather dry and missing some vital crunch. The creamy vanilla cream had some nice bounce, with subtle vanilla inclusion, but lacking some richness from an egg or two. If homemade - nice try, but I suspect these guys are bought in, subdivided and sold for a premium.

The food and drink here is extremely overpriced. $16 for a bottle of sparkling water, a flat white and bottled orange juice is slightly ridiculous. Further, charging an extra $6 to add a side salad to your main event is exorbitant. The food is delicious despite the price tag, especially the vanilla slice which deserves a special mention. The thing that lets this place down is the service, which is lack lustre. All the ladies didn't seem to want to serve us, nor did they crack a smile.

We had just been to a restaurant with good food, disinterested staff so popped into Schwab's for coffee and cake. All 4 of us loved it. Excellent coffee and cakes plus a great lady serving us which saved our day in Williamstown. Will be back.

Looked promising, scrumptious cake display even. Went there just after 3pm and was met with a rather lukewarm welcome. Cake and sandwich was a bit stale, ok considering the time. Freshly made sandwiches were only available if the staff knew you.

Had coffee and slice of Timtan cake, wasn't too bad, cake was a little dry. Coffee was fine and they accommodated a request for soy. Overall not bad.

Only had a coffee here but it was terrible

Not sure why the reviews tend to be negative... I wanted to post to encourage people to give it a go. We had lovely service from lovely ladies, enjoyed yummy food and delicious vanilla slice. Prices were perhaps a little high, but in line with the area. Will go back.

Don't like. Coffee is okay. Tea is a twinnings bag in a cup of water. Also i had to walk to counter to obtain milk. Iced coffee plus tea was 11 dollars which would be ok if it was decent tea. <br/><br/>Sat outside in the courtyard. No ambience except staff members smoking cigarettes! Seriously? In the customer area? In 2014? Won't return.

I concur with other reviewers -- TOO EXPENSIVE!. If I carried a smartphone so I could have read other Urbanspooners' reviews, I probably wouldn't have come in here. On a bicycle ride around Williamstown, I spotted Schwabs and thought I'd buy a couple pastries to take home and have with coffee on the following mornings. I got a mini Tim-Tam cheesecake and something called an "almond horseshoe" that's like an almond croissant twisted around itself like a piece of rope. They both tasted OK, not spectacular, but well-crafted. What WAS spectacular was what these two pastries cost me, as in "spectacularly high." It was $12 for the pair! I've had pastries comparable to the almond thing for $3.50 or $4. At Zouki cafes in various hospitals where I work, I've scoffed at similar pastries to the Tim-Tam cheesecake because Zouki wants $6 for them. I don't know what the docket for each of these pastries was, because Schwabs doesn't display prices. Probably because no one would buy their stuff if they know the charges beforehand. I hope people read this before they venture to Schwabs, so they can avoid getting stung in the wallet.

Disgusting!! Stale over priced cake. Horribly rude owner. Wouldn't give me a refund. Will never visit this place again. <br/>They should be ashamed of running a business like this. Clearly I'm not the only one who has stale food and bad service from this place after reading the other reviews!

Rude. Terrible service and overpriced cakes, $7.00 for a small stale cake and bad coffee. Four of us went for coffee and cake and we will never be returning. How this place is still operating is beyond me.

OVERPRICED - bought 3 cakes/slices at $7 EACH. The servings were not generous compared to other cafes. Staff did not interact & speaking another language. Definitely not returning!!

Visited on Sunday afternoon pushing for a smile, speaking in another language was very rude and not focussing on your customers. Asked for double shot coffee and was served with a weak one. Service should improve...

I visited after a friend told me that cakes were good. We decided to have lunch my daughter ordered a pie which came out cold and I had a filo which was not nice at all. Service was appalling... Ordered cake and it was dry on one side so standards are not the best all the time. I was recommended to visit from a friend and I would not do the same. For both service and food to be bad I will take my money elsewhere.

Foods great, your pushing for a smile though.

Inconsistent service, food and pricing. Its a shame but the standard here seems to have dropped drastically in the last 12 months. <br/><br/>Never great, it did at least used to offer consistent quality food at reasonable prices with friendly service. However recently the service has got very bad - a lot of unnecessary rudeness, pricing seems strange and inconsistent, and the freshness and flavour seems to have disappeared from the food.<br/><br/>I ate with two colleagues recently - two of us had the same thing - a spinach and cheese filo with a bit of greek salad on the side. We drank tap water. The other person had a serve of lasagna with salad plus a flavoured mineral water to drink. By comparison to the other two meals, the lasagna serve was large as was the accompanying salad.<br/><br/>The filos were pretty dry, and seemed a couple of days old. They were also served with a rather bizarre chutney that tasted more like apricot jam than anything you'd want to have with spinach and cheese. The greek salad was largely wedges of tomato with a tiny bit of fetta and few olives.<br/><br/>The lasagna appeared to be largely pasta sheets, but my friend reported it to be ok.<br/><br/>When it came time to pay the spinach filo and salad with no drink was charged at $13.50. The lasagna with salad plus a bottle of drink was charged at $11.50. Go figure!<br/><br/>The attitude at the till was so bad that I quicky decided that rather than query their pricing regime I was better to pay, leave and never return.<br/><br/>A real shame since I work in Williamstown so that's one less place for lunch.<br/><br/>Coffee has always been a problem here so I'd strongly recommend steering clear of it.

Love this cute, little place in Willy. It always has beautifully presented desserts in the window display. It has a quaint courtyard out the back with a nice atmosphere and fresh flowers on each table. They also make the best vanilla slice ever! I've been advised they make them fresh on Saturdays. Get in and try one!
