Review Lion Dance - Williamstown

Jan Kingston
I ordered 'take away' last evening. The Beef in Oyster Sauce was so so tender and just delicious and plenty of it. I also ordered the Salt & Pepper Chicken Ribs and was disappointed, not because they weren't nice but because they were battered and had chilli on them. Not what I expected. All in all a lovey meal and I will be back for more :)

Group of 8 of us dined there for lunch. Food was ok, we all agreed we've had better Service was a little slow, and there was only our table of 8 and one other table of 3 in the restaurant. Mains are around the $25 to $28 mark. As a group we spent just over $300 and that included 4 glasses of wine, 8 mains, 3 soft drinks and 4 desserts.

Williamstown is very lucky to have the best Chinese Restaurant in the West of Melbourne, delicious menu with regular and banquet options available, takeaway if dining in isn’t your thing. Friendly staff, and great menu pricing.

Amazing service and food ! Very family friendly !! We will definitely be back again The staff were so good with the kids providing magic tricks and toys to play with. They even came out with a decorated icecream for dads birthday with music l.

Recently came here for dinner with a friend. Steak with cashews and the cherry lake duck were superb. So tasty. Was rapt that the meals were big in size and big on taste. And when I asked for a slight variation in the food the staff were so accommodating without it seeming a bother. Thank you. Takeaway available. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. You’ll find pretty easy. Close to the beach so a lovely backdrop.

We love the area and felt like Chinese food, we read the reviews and drove an hour to dine here. Well we weren’t disappointed, such a lovely warm welcome, fantastic customer service and wonderful food. Best Honey Chicken we have ever tasted. Can’t wait to return. Thank you for the lovely dining experience! :)

I was sceptical first about the "Chinese Australian food" tag but the enthusiastic staff and the long term local customers really make this place works. It is very old school with great atmosphere...it feels like being invited to a Chinese family for dinner. I had a great time with my friends.

Not your traditional Chinese restaurant. Menu has been westernised and you will need to ask if you need chopsticks to just give you a hint on what to expect. But here, you will find the best customer service, it's a family business and you can tell they love what they do

Ordered dim sim, fried rice, chicken dumplings, and beef with black bean sauce. It was delicious! More than that though, the staff are absolute champs. I left with a warm fuzzy feeling. 15/10 ♥️ would recommend.

A flavoursome treat with excellent service. I was greeted with friendly conversation as soon as I walked in the door, and the opening hours are well suited to late-night swimmers at Williamstown Beach.

There wasn't many people in there at 9pm which was good however the people that were in there were rather loud. I guess they still haven't realized that louder talking doesn't equate to being smarter. Pretty sure they were drunk as it was a group of over 50s celebrating one of the guys birthdays.

Speaking of which, great touch with the cake coming out. However how frickin long do you have to blare Happy Birthday over the speakers? Follow that with For He's a Jolly Good Fellow, Why Was He Born So Beautiful, 21 Today, Hip Hip Hooray then followed with some AFL chants. Ffs. I just wanted to eat my bland fried rice in peace. It's not like the speaker system is great...

The rice paper chicken was alright. Wasn't really what I was expecting consider rice paper... but it was fried. Still okay though. Dumplings were okay. Overpriced for 3. I believe it was $7.90 for 3. I think I already mentioned the rice was very bland. I had to soy that stuff up.

One thing that surprised me though was the fact that I asked for a coke.... It's came out in a small glass. I was like "Where's my damn can?" There was definitely more in a can then there was in that cup. I wish I took notice of how much they charged for that.

The hot towels were a nice touch. Made me feel like I was on a flight.

To be quite honest I'm surprised they're still open. With the quality of food and taking into consideration the location of this place. It reminds me more a restaurant you'd find down in some dodgy corner of Laverton or Sunshine although I have had better food at those places. Quite a disappointment.

For $110 I wish I had of taken that money around the corner to another restaurant. The fried rice was bland and flavorless, the Mongolian beef was just meat and onion with what looked like gravy in a tin foil boat. The sweet and sour chicken was flavoursome however the battered chicken wasn't great quality. Definately won't be returning here which is a shame as being from Newport I love to praise my local area however this is a miss.

If you are saying that this place is the best Chinese restaurant in Williamstown, I might agree with you just because Williamstown is really lacking a good Asian food. This place offered one of the best services in a Chinese restaurant, though of course we paid for it. But the actual dishes tasted somehow just okay. The staffs/owners here were super friendly though , so if you are nearby and feel like having a Chinese food, do try this place.

Wednesday night dinner, decided to try a local in Williamstown, excellent service from start to finish, even with a hot towel at the end to wash hands. Food was beautiful, will definitely come here again.

Divine! Every time divine!
I have been here many times
Waiters are pleasant and the owners are lovely
Food is the best Chinese in Williamstown

Expensive menu, and I dislike spring rolls that have mushroom through them. The amount of times I've been to Chinese restaurants and they give you hardly any vegetables because you asked without mushroom. Would only eat take-away from here. Average at best.
Pretty sure we were overcharged the last time.

Owner and host, Frank, is apparently a bit of a local personality. He was friendly, warm, and jovial. He picked straight away that we weren't local as he hadn't seen us before. It was evident from his interaction with other patrons that there are many 'regulars'. Service was pretty quick, even though the place was busy. Prices around $20 a dish; portions reasonable. Food pretty decent, but in my opinion not particularly memorable.

It is very good food.

Always reliable. This is "our local Chinese": something you'd probably appreciate culturally if you grew up in the 60s and 70s; or from a culinary perspective if you've had to travel outside major cities and provincial towns like I have. I think Frank, Gwen and staff do a great service to our local community. Food and service is consistently good and the food is always fresh; but if you want to extend your palette then head up to Footscray, North Richmond, or into the CBD. Otherwise, for the last twenty years I probably go to Lion Dance at least eight times a year (they do take extended overseas holidays!) and will keep going back because things don't change much. If you don't see a particular dish on the menu, then ask: the chefs are very creative. Our favorites are Chicken and Cashews, Ginger Scallops, Hotpot, Pork and Beanshoots, or something off the specials menu. BYO wine, get something to drink from Justin in the wine shop next door, or try something off the list.

Leap Back in time and Place. The prices and food at this restaurant remind me of what Chinese restaurant were like in Australia many decades ago and generally only a few like this still exist in some country towns. Bland food that is overpriced, I wonder how a restaurant like this can survive in Williamstown when there are so many alternatives.

Sizing is ridiculous.. The sizing at Lions Dance is half the size of any asian restaurant i have ever been to and the fried rice
Large takeaway is a small!! Trying to savea dollar by skimming, they are losing customers. I will not be back nor will i recommend to anyone.
Chippyminton_57
Vegetable Curry dish. Absolutely dreadful. The vegetables were blanched in hot water and there was not even a hint of any curry flavour. There was the tiniest amount of brown water under the veg which had almost no flavour.
It tasted like a poor home made attempt at chinese cooking. Easily the worst I have ever tried.

Good, Good, Good.... Good food, good price, good service... what more can you ask for from a Chinese takeaway on a Saturday night... great Chicken Curry and prawn crackers.

Expensive and Bland. Staff are friendly which is lucky, but this is the sort of Chinese restaurant that you'd expect in a small country town without competition apart from a pub, and not in inner Melbourne with plenty of diversity. The food was bland and expensive . Dumplings were double the price of city dumpling stores but of a generic quality . The Satay chicken was not marinated (just plain grilled chicken). Chilli prawns were mildly spicy in sweet and sour sauce (only 8 prawns at $24). Onion dominated the plate . Chinese Broccoli was classed as a Chefs Special but was very dull at $17 . Rice was under cooked . I won't go back with so many other places to choose from .

Great food. Had dinner last night 19/06/14, me and my partner had a great relaxing time and it was the best Chinese I have ever eaten ( big statement I know ) every dish we shared was perfect.

Have been here a lot of times. It's my no 1 choice for Chinese food. Friendly staff it's money we'll spent . Would recommend anyone.

Ordered 4 main meals for 4 persons incl 1 prawn dish , special fried rice , 2 beer ( coronas ) 2 cola , pot of Chinese tea . Wanting to pay only $50 , is it fair ?

-----02 Jun, 2014-----

30 years in business plenty of regular customers , there will always be a few people taking advantage & refusing to pay bill even after discounting !

Serve size is very small. Price is very high. Quality is only just average. Lemon chicken.. Out of 4 people that like this dish.. None of us liked this. Large Fried rice.. Size of small anywhere else. Charged for Chinese tea.. Never been charged anywhere else for this. Ask for can if coke. Get half a can in a glass and that's it. Garlic prawns had 6-7 prawns. Chicken in black bean.. Had to search for the chicken to find it. Sweet and sour pork in batter was nice but entree sized....
Would not recommend his place at all

Chinese New Year Celebrations. Amazing celebrations to celebrate the new year. The Lion dancers and drummers created a great atmosphere. Food and service was great but as usual the hospitality was at its best. Frank and his wife are what makes this restaurant unique.

Fabulous as always. Frank and his team are great. Always great service, fabulous food, consistent all the time. Sizzling seafood platter and sizzling steak are awesome. Peking Duck is great too.

Great local, fantastic service, quality food at a great price, have always loved coming here!

It may not be The Flower Drum, but for a suburban Chinese restaurant it's pretty damn good. Quality food, reasonable prices and good service. Frank, the owner is very attentive, which adds above personal touch. Great for takeaway too.

Not a good value for money chinese. The duck my son ordered was dry.. sizzling steak was good...we enjoyed it. We also had our favourite honey chicken which
was a 7 out of 10 for taste....the mixed dumplings were awsome and we ordered it again...review is based on chinese being our favourite and we eat out at least once a fourtnight...so the value was not there as the portions of all dishes were small even the the boiled rice was paltry..after we left lion dance I phoned ahead to order pizza from hot house at point cook on the way home...

Great place to eat in or takeaway. I am there weekly.
