Review Sebastian Beach Grill & Bar - Williamstown

Wow! What a wonderful dining experience. The first thing you notice is the soothing view of the water mixed with the warm blues and white which make you feel you have left the suburbs. The staff are attentive and charming. The layout affords a cozy, yet private seating. The food was sensational, if I could have had one of everything I would have. A great mix of vegetables, seafood, poultry and red meat. Oh, and the cocktails! Let the waitstaff guide you, they know their stuff! Don't pass on this gem if you get the chance!

Sebastian's thoroughly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in the service was superb, with knowledgeable and attentive staff taking our food and drinks order promptly but without making us feel rushed at all. The cocktails were awesome and the food was delicious. Light, tasty and just right for a hot day. Our position in the alfresco dining area overlooked the beach and the ocean; simply stunning. It is a long way to go but we are looking forward to another visit.

Excellent value banquet meal in the private dining room. $80 per head for 4-6 entree and 2 mains 2 salads and desert. Kids menu for little ones. Lovely interior and view over Willy beach. Highly recommended.

Super impressive restaurant in an amazing location. Normally a great beach location means average experience, not here. A fantastic Basque influenced menu with superb service. An absolute must go.

First time dining at Sebastian's. We had a lovely experience, staff were very helpful and attentive. Food was very delicious. Absolutely loved the Basque cheesecake finish off the evening. Will be back to spend more time on the beautiful deck.

Excellent service with live music, it's a hotspot in this area. The shop is located in a wonderful location. There is a wide selection of food and beverages. What could be better than this? Sit and chill in beach-side on a nice day along with sipping cocktails watching the surrounding atmosphere.

I came here with my work DSV in a group of around 22. Amazing food, beautiful location and outstanding service. Your Team are top notch. Highly recommend to others.

Great service, delicious food, comfortable environment, wonderful location. We came for our anniversary and this was a perfect restaurant to make it a special occasion. We had croquetas, Basque crispy muscles, freekeh and cauliflower, snapper, heirloom tomatoes and Basque cheesecake with sangria and a cocktail. All delicious.

We were a group of 6 and ordered the $75 banquet. We had some pre-dinners at home, but should not have...the quantity and quality of food provided in this banquet was outstanding. The service and view were also excellent. The standard of food was high and the flavours were really bought forward in each dish. The dishes then flowed well across our palates. The wines they recommended were good and the raturant pale ale also good. A memorable night thanks Sebastians

I’m not sure if it was the joy of the first restaurant meal post-Covid iso, but dining at Sebastian was a meal worth waiting for. We’d been meaning to try this beachfront spot for some time, so it was a real joy to have this moment.

Our menu totalled $160 for two people, including three courses, one alcoholic drink each and coffee. Most of the dishes (on what looked to be a slightly pared-down menu) are designed to be shared and take their cue from the Basque region of Spain.

Sadly, due to time constraints, the set menu was not available, but that didn’t stop us finding plenty on the menu to please. Standouts were the eggplant and polenta and lamb shoulder. The custard dessert was outstanding (why anyone would order anything else is a mystery).

Service was of a high standard and very friendly and helpful. We had the feeling that the whole dining experience was much more efficiency given set booking times, pay at the table and so on, though we never felt rushed. Tables are spaced enough to comply with the rules and ensure that everyone feels safe, yet the ambience is such that you won’t feel like you’re dining alone in a desert. The only hint of something odd was the waiters’ wearing if disposable gloves which gives off a slight fast-food drive thru vibe, but which is completely understandable given the current circumstances.

We might be facing a Melbourne dining scene that is forever changed in the coming weeks and months. Hopefully Sebastian and it’s flavours of Span are here for the long run.

Too my wife to Sebastian Restaurant last night for the first time and what an amazing experience, we had no booking for a friday night busy period but as soon as we walked in we were welcomed and acknowledged by 4 staff, they check availability and luckily one table available for us.
We had basic starters, Entres then mains. Every dish was amazing, best of all. Service from our waiter just made the whole experience enjoyable, we will be back very soon

Grossly overpriced for below standard quantity serves. The kinda of place you will go to a maccas to fill up afterwards. Got told by the waitress "we can't order bar menu at outside seating. Outside only meant for those who will spend more" unbelievable!!

4 🌟 from me 😁
I must say the service is extremely good, the food we ordered tasted quite good, we love spanish food. The small plates portion is really small, but that’s fine as we can order a few plates to share. We have been told to wait for approximately 40 minutes for the grilled fish, so we are prepared for the wait, or else we would have complained bout the waiting time. Best is they have seatings outside with great view, very relaxing ambience, but there are flies inside the restaurant which are quite annoying:

Very friendly and attentative staff. Great food with very generous portions (small plates are not small) that are great to share at reasonable prices. Lovely views of the bay and beach from outside on the deck. Inside is relaxed and light with cool white and blue tones - makes you feel like you are on the Mediterranean.
Mickey
Delicious food, great service, amazing venue with fantastic outdoor beach views

I have been to Sebastian multiple times with my girlfriend and it never fails us.. from the beautiful view and fresh vibes to the fresh clean tapas styled food! We love it and will continue to support this fantastic restaurant in willy!!

Great food and service -accommodating dietary requirements for 2 of our party, delivered with minimum fuss. Generous set price menu.
The food was delicious but it took almost 2.5 hours to finally get all of our dishes. SO slow! Felt like leaving- it was a Thursday and with work that day I almost fell asleep. Exhausting

Brought my parents and partner here to enjoy lunch by the beach
But ended up spending more than 3 hours here cause it takes too long for the food to arrive and most of the food are salty!
When we arrived, we were not welcome at all by the staff, when he clearly saw us coming. This happens the entire time, they kept taking care of other people but us.
For the price we’re paying, we expect a great service and food. Super disappointed!

It was a quiet Monday night, so we were able to get a table by the Window. It's metered parking $4.2 an hr until 8pm here. So I can see how that deters some people from dining here. Service was always with a smile and prompt.
We ordered the dinner banquet for 2 ($60 pp) with some sparkling water.
The entrees were very simply presented. The anchovies were a cold entree wrapped around an olive with a strong fishy smell, which makes it quite hard to eat. The leek croqueta was nice but there was only 1 each.
The fried mussels was good but it was really nothing special. It lacked presentation. We were given 1 sliced sausage between two which looked ridiculously 'lonely' on its own plate.
The smoke chicken was probably the highlight dish, which was also our only main meat dish. It was accompanied with a bowl of leaf salad and a plate of coal-roasted pumpkin.
Dessert was also simple: chocolate pot which was basically a ganache biscuit.
Sorry San Sebastian but it makes me wonder if the chef who is representing you has lost his/her cooking inspiration, as tonight's dishes were dull and miniscule.
After we paid the bill (and also added a tip), we realised that we were wrongly charged a $10 glass of Malbec red wine which we didn't order. It was a quiet night with only 3 tables. Imagine when it is busy.
All I can say is disappointment of a night. Guys, I'll leave you to decide through the photos of tonight's dishes.
Have dined at this venue under previous ownership in the past and love the spot - great location and ambience. Under the new brand Sebastian, we found the food interesting and tasty. I don't often write reviews, but honestly, I felt strongly enough about our experience that I needed to say that the service recently was terrible. We were there for three hours for lunch, and in all that time we only had one course and coffee. No-one came near us at the start and it took 20 minutes to be asked if we wanted a first drink. Eventually we ordered but the food took ages. Dirty plates were left for a good half hour. There were no staff walking around checking the status of tables or if people had everything they wanted. There was no follow-up on our meals or ongoing service - the restaurant looked deserted for staff. Eventually I got up, went to the bar and asked someone to come to our table and serve us. A staff member removed the plates but she didn't come back to ask if we wanted dessert or coffee. Eventually we ordered coffee but had run out of time for dessert. The restaurant was about a third full, so not that busy. Staff don't 'look up' to see if any customers are looking for service - my husband was waving to try to get someone's attention, but the staff look down, do what they have to do and move on without being aware of what's going on around them - very frustrating. If staff had been more on the ball, we would have ordered at least another round of drinks and dessert. A bad service experience always outweighs the quality of the food, as it leaves a lasting negative impression. We won't be recommending this restaurant or going back.

We had a small family gathering to celebrate a birthday and couldn’t be more impressed. We opted for a set menu and were not disappointed. The quality and variety was great, from steak tartare and foie gras (and others) to start and then whole fish and porterhouse for the main - every meal was spot on. The service was exceptional and the venue itself is stylish and is right in the beach. Hope the locals support this great restaurant as it is something that Williamstown needs and deserves.
The Melbourne Master
This dazzling waterfront restaurant impresses equally with its decor and high-brow air as it does with its food.

From the faint, intermittent strumming of the Buena Vista Social Club over venue speakers, to the butterscotch booths and mellow fireplace, it is an effort not to be at ease.

The showstoppers at Sebastian were the Coca de Tomate (tomato tart with Shaw river buffalo curd) and the Flinders Island Lamb Neck (Mojo, local saltbush, white beans, Jamon, pimiento piquillo) - with the latter so appreciably tender, light effort with a spoon could cause it to crumble.

Wow, wow, wow! Exceptional service and incredible food. Will definitely return. A must visit and well worth the little trip to Williamstown. 5 stars.

Finally got round to trying out Sebastian after lots of good recommendations from friends. It was great. Delicious food, knowledgeable staff, and to top it off, a great understanding of allergies and intolerances. They are set up to explain potential allergens, and able to recommend dishes that suit, to the extent of having laminated lists you can see. I felt so comfortable enjoying the brilliant meal. Hard to pick a stand out dish, but the calamari was divine. Thank you.

We had lunch at Sebastion. I had requested a window table but alas no we did not get one and yes there were tables at the windows empty while we were there.
We ordered the chicken which was very uninspiring and very plain, not what you would ever order again.
The mushrooms Gilda I actually laughed at it was so tiny.
The paella was tasteless overall, the seafood and the rice. It really lacked flavour as did the beetroot dish.
The small plate fish was ok and the best of our choices. The croquettes were ok.
The view of the sea was pretty negligible as we looked across the restaurant with empty tables between us and the windows.
Unfortunately I also found the chair to be very uncomfortable.
Very unlikely that we would return.
The food was not good and the sea view was minimal.
We had been to this location many times under the previous management and always had a Seaview window table.

I’m sorry guys, I really really wanted to give you a higher score but the service lets you down. Food was so tasty and delicious! Sitting outside, the vibe was fantastic and would have stay for much longer. But looking at the three lines, all 10 deep at the bar - made us leave as it would have taken 20 minutes to be served. Please read the reviews as they all comment on the service. I don’t Sebastian to have the same fate as the previous venues in this location.

On a warm afternoon, this is the best place to be in Melbourne. Sebastian Bar & Grill is unlike anything else.

Since opening they’ve only grown in numbers and popularity. Truly receiving the crowds that this venue deserves.

Sitting on the deck, with a Sangria in hand, live music and the stunning beach environment that surrounds - this is the cheapest trip to Spain you’ll find!

The Sangria is an absolute must. At just $10 for a giant class, it’s a must have on any day. It also helps that it’s one of the most delicious Sangria’s I have had since visiting Spain.

If seated outside, you’ll receive the Deck Menu. A range of delicious “Pintxos”. Great for some drinks and a nibble with friends!

Inside, in the dining room, you’ll receive the full Sebastian Menu.

We ordered:
🍗 Smoked Chicken; half free range corn-fed chicken, a la grecque dressing. $32
🍗 Lamp Rump; pasture-fed Victorian lamb rump 250g, lemon, sumac, coriander. $38
🍗 Coal-Roasted Pumpkin; Creme fraiche, walnut, seeds. $12
🍗 Basque Crispy Mussels; fermented chilli aoili. $15
🍗 Fries; celery salt, chipotle and lime aioli. $9.5

A fantastic menu to share and enjoy all the endless flavours these dishes will bring. Could not fault any element of these dishes.

The team of staff include some of the best waiters/waitresses that I have ever witnessed. We were blown away with the incredible persona and charisma of both that we encountered.

Congratulations to the owners. You’ve truly turned this venue into something incredible. Williamstown, Melbourne and everyone here are in debt to you for bringing Spain to our back-doors.

✅ Stunning Venue with Unforgettable Views
✅ Live Music on Weekends
✅ Exceptional Staff
✅ Flavoursome and Unforgettable Food
✅ Sangria

Beautiful setting right on williamstown beach, we had a lunch with about 12 women so had to get the set menu which was fine but at $60 pp i did think it was a bit pricey for what it was. The service could do with a bit refining, having to ask for water on a hot day etc.
Food was tasty. Be great to sit out on the deck when its a hot day.

Sebastian is a fabulous destination and venue at which to enjoy a delicious meal from a Basque inspired menu. Comprising a restaurant, bar and outdoor area, overlooking Port Phillip Bay, where their deck menu is served on weekends and busy days. Dining in the restaurant, the pintxos were a great start to kickoff our Spanish dining adventure. Our choices were flavoursome and nicely presented ... all praise to the chef and team in the kitchen! A couple of tweaks, service wise, could only enhance the entire experience.

My friends and I couldn't have been more disappointed today.
The kitchen seemed severely under-staffed, which was very unfortunate for everyone working on the floor and at the bar — the state of confusion was quite apparent. We waited over 2 hours for most of our food and had to request for updates multiple times.

Food was good! Pity that the experience couldn't match it.

My friends and I were really looking forward to trying Sebastian. The first thing that happened which made me concerned was I booked a table online for a early dinner as my son was with us we walked into the restaurant it was completely empty however the waitress gave us the table right in the corner right near the toilet. This was disappointing as we wanted to see the sunset however I didn’t say anything then all our friends arrived and it took a very long time for the waitresses to take our order. On the menu they had a chefs selection for $60 dollars per person there was five adults and one child the chefs menu is for a minimum of two people my friend and I have a vegetarian so we asked the waitress if we could have a chefs selection as a vegetarians as they appear to have many vegetarian selection through the menu. The waitress then went back and forth four times to confirm with the kitchen we waited patiently she then came out and said that’s fine. The first course came out it was all meat I asked the waitress where the vegetarian option was and she said oh I only swapped a couple of the services as vegetarian I said why would you do that I can just order that from the menu and not pay the $60 she seemed very confused by this she then went back to the kitchen and came back and said that’s fine however the rest of the courses came out and they were still meat with no vegetarian options when we bought this up with the waitress she said oh well my bad. I also Ordered fish and chips for son the one piece of fish was the length and width of my index finger it was not going be enough for my son so I asked for two more pieces of fish out came free kids meal I then said that’s not what I asked for however I was charged for that at the end of the night and they only remove one of the meals. The host at the end asked for some feedback when it was given to him he started to get aggressive and argumentative do not go to this place!!!!!!!!!!

A group of us had lunch here on a sunny Sunday afternoon a couple of weeks ago. The food was excellent, tasty, everything we wanted and expected and if our visit was based on the food alone, we'd be back in a instant. But the service was so badly negligent it became a topic of conversation at the table and we had to turn it into a bit of a game to see who, if anyone, would come and serve us. It started when just after we arrived and I finally managed to get someones attention. When she came over (we had been seated about 5 minutes and the table was bare) she stared at me. "Yes?" There was no set waiter for our section, just whoever actually looked at us and saw our needs would serve us; they were very slow to non-responsive when it came to removing glasses form the table, topping wines, really doing anything other than delivering the food. A lot of avoiding eye contact made it so frustrating. The setting is fantastic, the decor excellent, the food tasty but the restaurant is in need of a good, strong floor manager and the staff (all of whom were quite lovely, they just didn't seem to have a clue about service) need training.

After a refreshing swim at the beach, my sister, brother in law any myself decided to have a drink at Sebastian. The vibe here is great! A DJ in the corner playing some funky beats, cosy chairs. I felt like I was over seas and not in Melbourne.

Lots of seating and with great views outside, I was very relaxed basking in the sun.

My mocktail was refreshing and delicious, my sister was happy with her wine and brother in law enjoyed his beer. Our chips were nice and crispy with an accompanying smokey aioli which was yummy.

My only gripe was the service wait at the outside bar, my word get some more staff on board please. Given the bar inside was empty, some help at the outside bar would of been great to speed up the process.

This place has a great setting on the beach. We went on a busy Friday night, and after eventually ending up at the correct table, we had a pleasant time. We loved the chargrilled zucchini, mussels, chicken, lamb, and our selected pintxos. The ceviche (needed more citrus) and calamari (a bit over cooked and under seasoned) not so much. The service was okay. We would probably go back again.

Have dined twice now at Sebastian in Williamstown and each time the food has been outstanding. Those croquettes! Amazing! Make sure you try the sangria too! The deck with sunset views over the beach makes this place truly unique for this side of Melbourne.

Sorry but the service was terrible at the bar on Monday. Doesn't feel like much has changed since the last time I was there. Get more people to help. There were 4people in and out and only one person trying to help everyone. She also grabbed food with a tong only to place it under her armpit after use.

What little I ate was fine, oysters and anchovies, but the order of two Tom Collins was at first completely forgotten, then when the staff were politely reminded they came as lemon juice, ice and gin . . . that's right kids no soda water to be seen.

When my learned colleague went to complete the drinks, the staff mistakenly thought he wanted soda water.

Ok, so where is the service in Melbourne's much touted food and wine scene?

In Sydney guests would have been offered free drinks or food after such a debacle . . . we barely received an apology. What is this, the UK?!

Food is fantastic. Service was great. The setup inside is very comfortable and extremely well done. This awesome loaction has been trying to find it’s identity for the last 30 years and finally someone got it right. Well done. Highly recommended!!!

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Great value for money - the place is a significant step above what was previously here and better than most beachside dining options in Melbourne, so I don’t know why people are expecting to pay peanuts. The pumpkin side dish is amazing, the croquettes are a must, and anything from the grill delicious.

This place is very impressive from the outside , overlooking the beach and a nice open deck. Inside we sat in one of the large booths which were extremely comfortable. The waiter gave us a run down about the food and we had a bit of everything. Overall all the dishes we had were delicious and it’s extremely reasonably priced. The service was great. I definitely will be going back very soon

Dined for dinner and the food was incredible! We particularly loved the pintxos. The cost matches the quality of the food, service and location. Highly recommended.
This Spanish influenced restaurant is a 5 plus the food was full of flavour with every bite, highly recommend the slow cooked chicken, it was full of flavour, every bite was a delight, like tasting it for the first time, couldn’t work out the flavour but couldn’t get enough of it. The fish was delicious with the bean and anchovies sauce taking it to the next level. The rice with scallops was amazing in taste and roast pumpkin full of flavour enhanced by special Spanish spices. Every dish was 5 star in taste and presentation. Very happy with the service, venue and food.

I have visited twice and sampled an array of small plates each time. The food is sensational! Everything is fresh and flavours are beautifully balanced. I highly recommend the pumkin which is served with creme fraiche. The calamari with tantalizing squid ink; the mussels; the roast mushrooms. ...endless epicurean treats. The venue is also unbeatable. I can't wait for the brunch menu to become available and enjoyable a relaxing morning on the deck overlooking Williamstown beach. The staff are super nice and friendly. A must try!

Food is delicious and the location is amazing. This place is great for sharing and you can tell they use really good produce. My favourite dishes were the octopus in squid ink, the flounder and the arroz espagnol. Oh, the crema catalana is delicious too!
Eatable Melbourne
Having dinned at Dave Parker's other restaurants San Telmo and Pastuso we were expecting amazing things. Unfortunately we were left pretty disappointed. We were a large group on a set menu. The appetizers were decent but when the steaks were brought out they were all overcooked. We sent them back. The kitchen said not to worry, keep them and we will send out new ones. They sent over new ones- they were over cooked again. The group got tired of waiting so accepted them the way they were the second time although two people from our group asked for them to be cooked the way they ordered them- medium rare. Again (third time) they came out over cooked. It took so long that our two fussier guests gave up and just ate them the way they were. The manager did not come over at this point to apologise. He sent the waiter to say we could have free coffees for the error. We all ordered an affogato (espresso with a scoop of ice-cream) but were then told we cannot have this as this is considered a dessert not a coffee. We then went on to explain that we had waited for a long time for steaks that were continually cooked incorrectly and then when we were offered a way to make peace with the coffee to now be told no we cannot have this particular coffee just infuriated us more. We were told that we had already been given "free steaks" and shouldn't complain. He did not comprehend that he was fixing his mistake...not giving us free food! The attitude here was not acceptable and for the prices of the dishes we were really expecting much better service and quality. At the end the manager apologised but to be honest this didn't help seeing as our lunch was already spoiled.

Went in without a booking. The server was really rude and spoke in a condescending tone. Just because I am brown doesn’t mean I don’t understand English. Seriously we just walked away.

Had dinner here tonight. Enjoyed the ambiance, environment overall was very light, casual, easy going. The decor of the place was bright and cheery. We were seated indoors as it was a bit nippy for outdoor seats. They are child friendly too. We got offered some colouring items and toys for our 4 yo.

Service was good. Waiters were attentive. Food was ok- nothing flashy. I think they could have produced a better menu and presented the meals better. To me it was a tapas menu that did not quite get there. I would love to see an expanded menu offering a wider choice of food. Perhaps they could present a set tapas offering- for an example.

I do have to applaud them for an impromptu birthday celebration request that I did ask for as we were about to be seated. And that was for a candle to be put on a dessert as we were celebrating my daughters birthday. They did do that which I am thankful for.

So all in all it’s defo worth a visit for a meal. Reservations defo recommended.

We had high expectations for this newly opened restaurant which was previously known to locals as Sirens.
The interior and exterior looks beautiful. The outdoor decking area specular which boasts stunning beach views and perfect for those Spring Summer afternoon drinks and tapas.
We found the staff at Sebastian friendly but the service a little slow.
But the main reason for our visit was obviously the food. This was extremely disappointing. What a shame. We were a group of 8. 2 of which were Vegan. They did try to accomodate for Vegan but fell short off the mark and feel they need to relook at this area with more care as many diners today prefer a Vegan option.
Overall we were disappointed with the portion sizes and the food took too long to come out.
From our $60PP menu, the Gilda was nice but not enough. The Chistorra was luke warm and the taste was horrible. The Basque crispy mussels were not too bad but they just had too much of a salty sea water taste to them. The dipping sauce helped mask this taste.
The hero dish, the main course, was a Black Angus which tasted not too bad but it was served to us cold. The portion size of the meat served together with the salad and pumpkin was OK for 2 people but the meat served cold was inexcusable.
We were all left very hungry though and when we asked for bread to fill up we were only told that they only had “homemade” bread which was expensive, soaked in oil and wouldn’t have done enough to fill our hungry bellies. They did, to their credit, give us a complimentary eggplant dish and croquets which were good but by this stage it was too late as we all felt very unhappy with the experience, with a couple in our group who did not eat at all due to their dissatisfaction.
The Chocolate pot was the final course and this, to our surprise, was also served as a share plate. Why? The desert was just basically chocolate mousse served in a ramekin. How hard would it have been to give each diner their own desert. Try sharing your mouse with your buddy and not double dip, or scoop in this case.
The coffee’s were perfect but this was an additional cost.
It’s not too late for this restaurant to make changes and improve in the areas it needs to. It is a lovely venue but it needs to be about the food if they want any chance of survival.
The majority of the reviews reflect similar sentiments to mine.

Great location. Food took a long time to reach the table and our group did not like the food. Overall a very dissapointing dining experience. Will not go back!

Meals are far too small for the price, very limited vegetarian options and staff are slow and rude.
As a local I was looking forward to this place opening but sadly it seems like yet another overpriced and underwhelming restuarant.
Will be interesting to see if they pick up their game, come winter locals will be the only thing keeping them afloat and with ridiculous prices for minuscule portions this won't be happening.

Wow! Really enjoyed my experience here! The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are amazing, and super friendly + helpful. The food was amazing, and all came out relatively quickly. All dishes we had were great, with no problems at all. Although a more expensive dining experience, well worth it, especially if to introduce one to Williamstown. I really hope this joint does well, and will be back to try more of the menu.

Welcome to Willi.
Excellent food and perfect wine list.
We are locals and we did enjoy our stay on the deck and
We will come back and try other food and diferent wine's as well.

Had such a great time at Sebastian. Food was delicious with a great wine and booze list! We sat inside because the weather wasn’t great but I can’t wait to return and dine outside!
