Review Squires Loft - Williamstown

Haris J
Came here with a group of friends. I ordered the baked salmon with chips. It was cooked to perfection and the sauce was delicious. My only complaint is I wish there was more salmon on my plate! The fried onions was a disappointment. Tasted pretty bland. Blooming onions or onion rings would have been better, I think.. Otherwise the service was friendly, quick and professional. Keep up the good work, guys!

Decor and atmosphere was unexpectedly lovely. Everyone enjoyed their meals and steaks were cooked as requested - food was great. Whilst the wait staff were lovely, they were a little clueless, but food was served promptly. Overall we had a surprisingly great meal.

Food great service dismal. So after the entree plates were not taken and then mains arrived and were plonked in front of us and we had to request they clear the entrees and then ask for cutlery to which we had a pile plonked in the middle of the table. Steaks were on the cool side and sauces were room temp. As I write this the two waitresses are flirting and mixing drinks for the kitchen. No one has even noticed we are ready for the bill. For the prices we are about to pay I'd expect much better.

So I sent this email and didn't get a response, hence this review. Don't waste your money or time. Hello, I would like to share our recent experience at your restaurant on Saturday night. 25/06/22. We ordered drinks, we were advised we couldn’t have cocktails as the bartender was away- fair enough. I ordered a vodka lime soda, my husband ordered a wild turkey and coke. I was asked to confirm what drink I wanted 4 times by the end of the drink order. We then had another waitress come to the table to ask how my husband would like his whiskey. He reiterated with coke. She then asked “yes, but how would you like it” he explained the process of “in a glass with ice and coke” Our drinks arrived, his was a whiskey on ice. Anyway, it was sent back and asked to add coke. So then our meal order was taken by a lovely (however not bright) young lady and obviously sent off to the kitchen. My husband and I looked at each other as no notes were taken during the ordering process and we just knew, something would go awry. Moments later, a gent from the kitchen came to our table, asking us to confirm our order. Thankfully, we noticed it was actually missing items. So our meals arrived minus the garden salad, the steaks were good, my rib eye was sub par. My daughters chicken burger was too spicy for her. I quickly ordered more drinks knowing they would take quite some time to come out. This was a genius move, as the drinks did take longer to be delivered than the cooking of the meals. To be fair, it was made and was sitting on the bar, waiting for a smiling waiter/waitress to bring it to me. I contemplated several times interrupting their conversation to ask for my drink or going to get it myself. I just couldn’t bring myself to break up what looked to be a riveting chat. After the wait, we ate and went to pay. Noticing we were also being charged for a chocolate pudding - which, to be honest sounded delicious. However, I could not wait to leave. I would have loved to stay, have the kids eat dessert and have a few more drinks. I just couldn’t warrant the time it took to get 1 drink. The friendly waitress giggled and removed the dessert we didn’t order and the salad we didn’t receive. We have eaten several times at your restaurant, each time not having any issues. Last weekend we spent less than this meal and had the most amazing steaks and service at The Exchange in Port Melbourne. It’s disappointing that Squires Loft which has a name for quality and service lacked in both departments and we had to suffer for it. Both our pockets and also our loyalty took a beating. I would love to get a response from you.

I have never seen a toilet as disgusting as the one at squires loft Williamstown. You'd find a better toilet in Revelry at 4am on a Sunday. This makes me wonder how their kitchen would be. Steak was OK and cooked as requested. Green peppercorn sauce tasted off. Very slow service, extremely overpriced for what you get. Zero chance I would eat here again.

Ambience is fantastic, what a great place to have a restaurant. But, the price at checkout was more than on their website. With all due respect to front of house staff, as I know everyone needs to start somewhere, there needs to be one person that knows what's going on and can lead the team. Considering this is a steak specialist which the prices reflect, I was disappointed my eye fillet was not a centre cut piece. Also, if you are going to charge these prices, I expect the chefs to use real fresh garlic on the stuffed mushrooms and not out of a jar. Normally, if I'm not happy with a venue I just don't give a review, but my dissapointment and out of pocket expenses prompted a response.

Albert park was better but still quite nice, our steaks were overdone , medium was more well done and medium rare was more medium. We couldn't be bothered sending it back to wait another 30 min. Salads and chips were great.
Natalie Miller
We were seated next to the kitchen and the chef went, “Make sure your chips not f#king burnt and give them the salads and sh#t.” 😂😂 That made our night. Food was amazing - great job 10/10

We came here for a last supper before VIC lockdown. We weren’t informed it was only a set menu when we booked but on arrival 3 courses for the price seemed decent. The food was ok nothing to rave about. The service was good though, wait staff were efficient and friendly.

Very impressed with the quality of our steak for the price. Staff were welcoming and friendly. A good place for a cozy dinner or gathering with friends!

More a cellar than a loft but nevertheless a warm place to be on a very cold night. The Black Angus Porterhouse and a glass of Dalrymple Pinot Noir ended a very long day on a High Note. Highly recommended .

Had dinner at Squires Loft Williamstown last night.
The service was ok. Had a bit of trouble trying to get the waiter's attention to order our meals however the meal was quite pleasant, the restaurant was peaceful and wasn't overly crowded. The steaks itself were delicious, great flavour and awesome mushroom sauce.

Set within a cozy and spacious bluestone basement, this steakhouse has a great wine bar and atmosphere, friendly staff, large range of steaks and other choices on the menu , great salads can’t go wrong here.

Can never really complain with Squires Loft. The eye fillet is the pick of the steaks imo. The sauces whether it be the creamy garlic or peppercorn always taste amazing.

More basement than loft. Steaks would be ok if they weren't soaked in whatever they baste them in, what is the point of having a steak with pepper (or whatever) sauce when it's just overpowered by something sweet that tastes like barbeque sauce? Peasants barn

My boyfriend and myself drove over to Williamstown Friday night to have dinner with my sister and her husband... Always loved Squires Loft South Yarra as well as the other franchises around town. This one seemed nice as we walked in... Service was pleasant as you'd expect from a steakhouse. Placed orders, drank some wine all quite normal so far.

As we were sitting there waiting we noticed a couple clearly not enjoying the steak, although this concerned us we didn't pay much attention and continued to wait.

After food arrived we could see what their issues were, steak was horrible - clearly has been frozen and was way overcooked. Although disappointed we didn't say anything simply intending to leave and not return.

What we saw happening next was like nothing ever witnessed before in a public eatery.

The couple sitting nearby us not impressed with the food left. Next thing we know the owner has turned up and tried to intimidate them into paying for the food they didn't eat.

As he was pushing the man around the place the woman started filming him, once he saw he was being filmed he grabbed hold of her causing her to scream and snatched her phone refusing to return it.

We just got up and walked at this point crossing paths with the police as they were arriving.

I hope someone from this place ended up being charged with assault.

This owner was just crazy - kind of type youd expect to see on a Gordon Ramsay kitchen nightmares

Keep away from Squires Loft Williamstown - make the drive to Albert Park or South Yarra if you crave that Squires flavor

We were extremely disappointed with this Squires Loft "establishment" in Williamstown. Tucked away in the basement of an alley way, this "establishment" is not fit for prams or any person who has trouble with stairs (we actually had to assist two ladies with their pram down the stairs).
Our date at this "establishment" started well enough; we were seated promptly and our order taken by the waiter. However, our experience quickly went downhill when we voiced a complaint about our DRY & INEDIBLE steak to the owner. The friendly greetings on entry turned to "GET OUT OF MY ESTABLISHMENT" from the owner; leaving an uncomfortable feeling for not only us but other guests in the ESTABLISHMENT that night.
So unless you like to eat overpriced frozen steak and love to be abused by the owner, I would strongly suggest you stay away from this establishment and try one of the other squires loft franchises that Melbourne has to offer.

Dined here last week for the first time . We had tried Squires Loft in Essendon .

Located in the Basement of a building , which is a little ironic given the name , the decor is nice and surprisingly inviting .

The brand lived up to its reputation for great steaks . We had Eye Fillet , the Lamb chops . The Reef & Beef and Rump Steak .

All were cooked as ordered and side salads and onion rings were also very good .

Parking is not bad and prices are reasonable for the quality of the food .

This is a great establishment if you want an uncomplicated night out with very good food in nice surrounds

The feel of the restaurant was nice and warm.the staff were friendly. We had steak for dinner it was nice but wasn't great, not in a hurry to come back to be honest.

Superb steak, with accompanying spud and asparagus. Very fine service from obviously happy staff. Very good spot, a self proclaimed 'hidden gem'.
Steak was cooked to perfection!! Quality and cut of meat was amazing! Staff were friendly, fast and very knowledgeable. Restaurant is well laid out for a small space. Stair upon entrance down are a little steep but minimal price to pay.
Chocolate cake with I've cream and hot chocolate sauce deserved a special mention! Very Morish!

The best steak I have ever eaten. Would ten out of ten recommend. The pepper sauce was outstanding, service was prompt and friendly, even if it wasn't the steak would be worth the visit.
Andrew
Very good steak cooked pretty much to perfection. Very tasty. Ordered scotch fillet with garden slalad. Nice salad that was just right and. Mushroom sauce delicious. Only thing i would change is to cut the fillet into smaller pieces to make it easier to cut up and eat.

Steakhouse tucked away in a lane way was an unexpected find. Does not look much from the outside however inside was beautiful and elegant. Good looking staff. Food was well presented

Easily one of the best dining experiences, the pork ribs and steaks were cooked perfectly accompanied by a good range of wine and beer! We were even given a delicious entree baked garlic mushrooms with feta on the house. The staff were lovely especially the manager Nathan who was very friendly and attentive ensuring we had a great night, looking forward to dining here again!

Had the Black Angus burger. It has a more meaty, heavy flavour that you would expect and it's fantastic. Cooked extremely well, all the other ingredients are fresh and the brioche bun is high quality. The chips are more or less average but the fried onions are the recommended side to go with the burger.

Wow! what can I say? Let's start with the atmosphere.
From the traditional bluestone and brick, to the oaky finishes of the bar, the coziness of this hidden gem will draw you in and prepare you for a truly amazing experience.

Beginning with the entree: I don't generally like mushrooms or feta however, this fusion of flavors, topped with a sizzling garlic butter and baked to perfection will send your palette into a frenzy. Side by side with a skewer of Black Tiger Prawns or the famous Squires Pork Spare Ribs and you have yourself a winning combination. Might I add, the ribs are the most succulent, juicy and tender of any I've ever tried; the meat literally melts off the bone.

Onto mains: Ladies and Gentlemen... I present... the 700g Black Angus Rib Eye. A real head turner and the presentation of the dish is something you don't see every day either. The staff will offer you a custom Squires Loft Knife to accompany this Grade A cut of meat.
Cutting into it I notice that it slices with ease; at least for a steak of this size. Cooked to a perfect medium, my steak continued to impress with every bite. The juices and flavors from the bone flow through the meat with grace. The Squires Baste leaves the meat coated in a light and tangy flavor, semi-spicy with a large range of herbs and spices.
I was especially impressed with the Blue Cheese Sauce, excellent for both the meat and the sides.

Food aside, the service was timely and friendly. The staff had extensive knowledge over both wine and all items on the menu; very informative.

This is Next Time Nathan signing off.

What a restaurant. Although this review is long overdue- the whole experience from walking into the unique restaurant all the way to the end it was one of elegance and sophistication! The staff were so welcoming and attentive, anything you need to ask or know they have a wide knowledge of their entire menu- and the wine list is exquisite! I had their 200gram eye fillet steak cooked medium rare with a baked potato and their famous baste. They don't call Squires Loft the steak specialists for nothing! The steak was so juicy and succulent, starting with the best cut of meat and cooking on the grill until the middle is perfectly red/pink to combine and retain all its flavours of the meat as well as Squires famous marinade. This is one dining experience everyone should enjoy- you will never be disappointed; especially with their new restaurant opening up in Werribee this November 2016!

So for more than 20 years The Squires Loft has served me well with simple, tasty but consistent food. I like it and my order rarely changes. The only variable is atmosphere and service. Williamstown gets a tick with the former with the cosy stonewalled basement, but a "could do better" with the latter. A long time coming with water once we were seated and even longer for the (delicious) bread, and I'm not your mate, buddy or...luv. Still, 20 years of reliability will no doubt prevail. And I don't know what they put in the salad dressing but I would eat a whole lot more salad in my life with a bottle of that stuff to hand.

I have been to squires loft on many occasions and have always been impressed with the quality of the meals. The steaks are cooked to perfection and are worth every cent.
Definitely the best steak and ribs in Williamstown.
Edin
The worst steak house around.
This not like a one off complaint as this steak house was a regular to my family and I for a few years now however with each time the food and service gradually declined.
Last Saturday night my partner and I suffered from food poisoning and currently still in bed suffering.
Steak was cold, chips were rubbish and mushroom sauce poisoning
Way to pay $120.00 to get sick!!
Bloody joke!

Whilst it isn't the cheapest restaurant to dine at, it certainly is one of the best for quality of food and service. The eye fillet & rib eye are succulent and nearly always cooked to perfection... the mushroom sauce is simply divine. Always greeted with warmth at this venue, and it's definitely got the upper hand on its stores in Docklands and Robina (QLD)!

If you're going to charge $65 for a steak, you better have good service. We had to ask for water more than 3 times before someone finally attended to our table. The lobster tail was over cooked. The steaks on the other hand were beautiful!! That made the wait and the service worth it. If your staff pick up their socks this place could be amazing!!

Had some good time for lunch to celebrate mothers day. A bit hard to find the entrance of this place as it located in a basement and the entrance was in a back lane. The food was good, my steak was cooked perfectly. Juicy and tasty. Pork ribs was very tender and well seasoned. Love it. Service was good too.
Kashia Cherry
The best steak around!!
Location is beautiful, an old celler of some type I believe. Service can be a bit slow when busy but it has quite a relaxed environment.

After hearing so much about Squires Loft, we decided to visit, one of the entrees we ordered were the stuffed mushrooms. Upon taking a bite into it, I gagged and pulled out TWO LONG HAIRS !! spat the whole thing out!! My husband complained to the waiter about it, he was very apologetic (poor guy).. we were asked if we wanted another serve!!
I expected management to come and see us!! Noone apart from the waiter spoke to us. We weren't offered anything to compensate for the terrible experience. I understand things happen.. however it would have been nice if we were acknowledged of the poor experience.. waited 3 or so weeks for someone to contact us, but obviously none seems to care. Not a good thing, considering we are locals.

It's all about the pork ribs and steak. If you're vegetarian steer clear. Love that it's tucked away from the hustle and bustle of williamstowns main precinct. Staff always attentive. Never had a bad meal from this restaurant. Noticed they also have a take-away lunch menu, good to know!

This squires loft franchise needs to iron out a few flaws in order to compete with the big boys,

Ribs were a little dry, mains came out while still eating entree and the chips were re-heated.

Lift you game lads.

After thinking about heading to Squires Loft in Williamstown for a while now. We finally made it there for my birthday dinner last night. We were definitely not disappointed. We wanted steak and that’s what we got. My daughter had the 300gm eye fillet, l had the Porterhouse. Both were cooked to perfection- mine medium and my daughters well done. We also shared a serve of grilled vegetables, which was a lovely accompaniment with the meal. One steak was served with chips and the other with sour cream and baked potato, which we also shared. Both meals were absolutely scrumptious and delightful. The service was prompt and efficient. The atmosphere and décor was warm, inviting and friendly. The loft was the perfect place for a winter birthday celebration. As we had booked our table online via yum- we received up to 25% of our bill, which was also a pleasant surprise. 5 Star rating for sure and we will definitely be back.

Great food! Dreadful service :(

Saturday night out. My lady and I went to the restaurant in Williamstown on Saturday night. ,Hoping for a good night out we were so disappointed .firstly the entrees were BURNT and Dry, I had spare ribs My lady had prawns, both were burnt ,the prawns were charcoal as was my ribs ,I did ask for some sauce for the ribs and all I got from the waitress was attitude eventually the bloke on duty saw we were needing some help and sorted it then they charged us extra for the sauce wow, next course was small 300gram eye fillet,,, and my lady had salmon hahaha well the salmon was also dry and burnt and my steak was charcoal all around the edges and across the top as well and extremely dry. when we were leaving we were asked how was our meal so I told them it was crap so I must say how good was the girl on the till as she deducted the ribs , but not the extra sauce that I never got to use as it was just horrible, so we won't be back to any of there well overpriced and undertrained staffed restraunts thats for sure,, why do we do this to ourselves when we all know we can do better at home !

Steak Specialists for a reason. Don't take notice of the bad reviews, this place is fantastic. Was a very pleasant experience, we will definitely be back. Service was great, food was fantastic, perfectly cooked steak and flavorsome, great chips and superb sauces. Lobster tail is a must! can't wait to go back!

Terrible service - dont waste your time. Went for dinner last weekend, took 10 minutes to get drinks and menu's. Ate entree to be left with the plates until the waiter realised as bringing out mains they hadnt cleared our table. Was a struggle to get a drink the rest of the night regardless of the fact there were only 4 or 5 other tables at the time. Nevertheless, hats off to the chef, food was fantastic. We will not be going back.

Very decent !. Been to quite a few squires loft establishments and everyone one has been very good.
Williamstown is now our regular.
Atmosphere is good with lovley warm decor and lots to look at in terms of the building.
Staff are somewhat friendly depending on who you get on the night, have had immaturely quiet and fumbley teens at times and others loud overly talkative types, but none of which I would class as rude.
meat is always cook to perfection and blue cheese sauce never disappoints.
Not a huge fan of the deserts I could be mistaken but they strike me as the "frozen type" but I think this goes for all the squires loft establishments so I'm defiantly not going to ridicule williamstown for that .
Over all the perfect place for a great steak and warm, relaxed dinning environment which is also quite family friendly. Highly recommended

Always a great experince!. Beautiful building, amazing food, my family and I come here quite often. Have never been disappointed with anything. Service is always fantastic! and the sticky date pudding is so good! some of my family thought it was a little pricey however the quality was exceptional. If you know how steak is to be properly cooked, this is the place to go.

A great experience and not disppointed at all. Contrary to some other reviews we have had a fantastic night, great food, great service and an absolute perfect experience. Highly recommended and they had Lagavulin Scotch Whisky.

Go to a different squires loft. Ive been to squires loft in the city and in geelong. williamstown is a little closer to home so we thought we'd go here. i was extremely disappointed. all our steaks were well over done and the chips were rubbish. components missing from our entree's and just the overall service was rubbish. our mains came out and they still hadn't cleared the table from our entree's. if your thinking of going here go to a different, if this is your first experience try somewhere else.

Birthday Lunch Mixed Reviews. We ate at Squires for a birthday lunch with 12 people. It was very empty, so no excuses for ordinary service. Several times we had to ask for drinks at the bar, as they weren't keeping an eye on the table. It felt we were waiting for service a fair bit.

Food was quite enjoyable for most; however, several steaks were not cooked as ordered, including the size of one meal. They were quick with a solution though, cooking another steak to make up the size difference.

The food did have great flavour and was enjoyable. The ambience was ruined by a party of diners, who I believe included the owner, were obnoxiously loud and at one point were arguing and continued to linger in the main dining area drinking more and ruining the tone of the venue.

Having been to other Squires venues, I'd not return to Williamstown.
Xenita
Not quite steak specialists. We had 4 steaks ordered, all 4 were overcooked to what we had asked for. Wouldn't pay that much for steak like that again..

Very over priced. Went out for what we thought would be a big steak dinner, instead we walked out feeling very dissatisfied with a large hole in our pockets. Steak was average and the chicken was so dry it was inedible

Squires Loft Williamstown.. Had set three course Christmas lunch at Squires Loft with drinks included in price. Great food and drinks keep flowing would go back again tomorrow.

Arrogant owner - bad experience. Owner is extremely arrogant. Claimed to be the owner. Argumentative & was not prepared to change the seating positioning of our table despite our initial understanding on where we were to be seated. Restaurant was only a quarter full (Sunday night) - many seating arrangements available. Owner continued to shun us while we were there.

Overpriced but pleasent night out. Had dinner here the other day, food was very nice although a little expensive for what you get. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was great :)

Total ambiance!!. From the moment you walk in you are taken by the beautiful warm surroundings. The service is excellent and the food was worth coming back for. Fantastic steak. Wine list good too. Very very happy to be taken to this new little hidden gem in Williamstown!

Alison. Went today for lunch 191014 . Service was disgusting, had to ask twice for a drink, two chairs at our table ripped. Waitresses could not crack a smile, was a real shame considering we had been to city onevprevuously and fantastic. Not the best birthday lunch to remember. Entre which was shared by 3 was disgrace 3 prawns I sausage and ribs and stuffed mushroom, for 74 dollars u should be ashamed. Will certainly not be coming back or recommending it to anyone

Long way to go before I come back. If only there was more to this place than a fabulous location. The staff need support and training about how not to harass diners. Being asked multiple times in 30 minutes if we are ready to order when it is obvious that we are still waiting for the 4th member of our party is annoying. The steaks are not cooked as one would expect and ordering a rare steak that is presented as medium is not good enough in a place that specialises in steak. The steak was sent back but we were charged on the bill for another steak which of course we did not pay for. My final comment is that for a place that has only been open for a very short time I would not expect the chairs to be in such a bad state of disrepair with covers tore and peeled off. I won't be back.
Ps adding 3 olives and 3 pieces of feta on the garden salad does not qualify as a greek salad.
Sunsetinparis
PERFECT HIDEAWAY. Loved the location, loved the food, loved the service, loved the decor. Will definitely be back.

A long wait for an OK steak. Saturday evening is definitely a busy nigt for them however it took us 45 minutes to finally get our food from the moment we ordered (I know this for sure because my kid was really hunggry and kept looking at the time). We ordered a medium porterhouse and got an almost well done steak. The sauce however was really good (we ordered the mushroom one) and the entree was perfect. The waiters didn't bother to apologize for the long wait and told us instead that it was the norm. As expected it also took a while for them to get the bill so we just went to the counter to pay and even we had to wait longer because they were sorting out a big group that needed priority attention. In consolation the place was beautiful and the ambience perfect; it really capture the spirit of Wiliamstown, but if you're hungry make sure you eat some snacks before you come to this place, esp on weekends.
Lauren.as
Over hyped over priced. Although the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere with the exposed stone walls, it was extremely difficult to find and very overpriced.
I understand if you are a die hard steak fan and you can't cook steak yourself, you may find this place useful. I however think paying $40 for a 200gm piece of steak with some regular hot chips and then paying an extra $5 for some sauce to be ridiculous. Especially taking into consideration the amount of local places that offer up steak, and have steak nights at a fraction of the cost.
The meat was cooked well but the garlic sauce was like gravy with raw chunks of garlic through it, and several of the orders at our table were messed up. For my partner and I to have just dinner, so sides starters or desserts and one drink each- mine being a soft drink it totalled over $100.
I don't think I can justify spending that on an ok meal that I could have made better myself. Sorry SL not for me.

I had tried this restaurant a couple of times now purely because it was a new place in town. On both occasions I found the food was over priced, over cooked and the staff extremely rude. We had made a reservation and it took over two hours to be seated at our table we were told to go to the wine bar. The venue is nice for williamstown but definitely not like any others squires chains.
KateW_1985
Fantastic experience at Squires Loft Williamstown. Went to Squires Loft Williamstown tonight for the first time after trying the Docklands version. We found the experience incredibly satisfying. I ordered the Eye Fillet (200g) steak medium-rare which was perfectly cooked and my partner ordered the Pork Spare Ribs (1kg) which was literally falling off the bone. The use of bricks and wood for the interior was well-done as it had a real "Steakhouse" feel to it. For dessert we ordered the Sticky Date Pudding to share, which was a perfect ending to a great experience. So happy that this is now in Williamstown and we will definitely be back. Went on a busy Saturday night during winter, if planning to go you must book ahead.

Loved it!...a little hard to find as its down an Alley, but once your in its beautiful!
The food was delish and good portion size. Staff where very attentive and lovely. Only problem I had was it was very loud! but that won't stop me from going back! A must try for Steak Lovers!

LOVE IT !. The place is amazing, the steak is fantastic and of course friendly staff! :) would recommended to anyone

Love the actual restaurant surroundings, suits the style of cuisine perfectly. We were there on a quiet night so can't comment on the noise. I had eye fillet which was cooked perfectly, my bf had rib eye which was underdone even though both were ordered as medium rare so a little dissapointing when you're paying good money for it. Would rather drive the extra kms to the essendon or city squires which seem to have it all figured out, but might be worth another go in a few more months.
Robertmbrown44
Terrible. From the rude guy who greeted us at the register, to the extraordinarily noisy environment which prevented the compact table of 8 to hear anyone but the person next to them, to the mediocre steak and the mass produced chips which had obviously sat some time before making it to the plate, to the hefty bill at the end of it all, this was a disappointing experience. Never again.

50/50. Its always nice to catch up with friends for dinner , few drinks and to shoot the breeze for a bit , don't go to squires loft williamstown if you want to do this , don't get me wrong ,food was good , service was ok , but they treat customers like a production line , you've hardly sat down and they are asking for orders , which i suppose is ok , but you want to read the menu first , so we order, food comes out , we enjoy our dinner , nek minit , theres a woman at our table telling us we have to move ......what the ???? ummm ok , so we move to the bar area , consisting of chesterfield couches filled with hipsters , and not very welcoming , so we left .....all in all , good tucker but when your paying premium prices , don't ask people to leave their table until they are done , its silly and wrong

My new favorite place, fantastic service, amazing steaks & love the atmosphere. Will b back very soon and refer to all my friends

Where to start hard to find the restaurant... Tables to close together and to small.. Mixture between a wine bar and a Cafe... Specialises in steak don't think so steak dry not cook correctly when you pay $127 for two people which consisted of 1 having t-bone the other a 200g steak... The dearest and most disappointing meal we have had in Melbourne.. Will we be back no never again
Misia
Mediocre and overpriced. I felt ripped off paying $34 for a bitter 200gram rib eye and burnt chips with a side of bland mushroom sauce. Oh and the side salad was $6.50. In saying this I do think that the service and dessert was good but no one does it better than Footscrays Station Hotel.

Attended a function at this restaurant last night. Food was beautiful, great range of steak, seafood, ribs. Staff were wonderful and ambience makes for a great evening.

Second Visit. Last night l visited the Squires Loft for a second time with two friends. We were given the smallest table in the restaurant and constantly had busy waiting staff knocking the back of my chair as they went past. I also had to sit with a large table leg between my legs which is not a comfortable dining experience. We were sat on a table for two with one on the side. Very small cramped table.
The wine, steak and desert were all lovely. The service was slow, it took about 40 minutes for our mains to arrive which was a tad long as they were quite persistent in getting us to order not long after we arrived.
At the end of the evening, l was very glad that we had checked the bill carefully as we had been charged for a bottle of Chandon instead of a bottle of Sav Blanc and there was quite a difference in the price of the two.
Would be happy to give it another go as the décor and food were good and we loved it on our first visit.

Local. Have been there a few times and last time we were there the place was busy and we were told we could sit on the couches. As there was only two of us we were happy to do this. We were told that if they get other customers in we would have to leave. As we were hungry we stayed and had a few entrees which were nice but due to the attitude of staff we will probably not return. I have found the Lady in charge does not seem to have people skills when dealing with the public.

Horrible!!! Possibly the worst steak and service ! How can you call this a specialised steak restaurant when you can't get a steak right twice ? Meat was a cheap cut , chewy and severely over cooked - sent meals back twice , rude, fair weather service , cold coffees what a joke not impressed as a local

We have been to the Williamstown Squires six times now, so feel like we are in a position to give an honest and qualified view. We love it !!!!!! Steaks have been cooked to perfection each time and the sauces are the perfect compliment. The staff are professional attentive and knowledgable without being 'stuffy'. Jan does an excellent job managing what has become a very popular restaurant. Maybe not a cheap night out, but Williamstown has become the classic example of you get what you pay for. More than happy to pay these prices for the quality of food that the locals have been crying out for!!!! Makes sure you book, regardless of the night you intend dining.

Booked a table for my Birthday. Was a little annoyed that front of desk choose to talk to the wait staff before acknowledging us but wasn't too worried. Was shown to a table and brought bread but that was as far as the "service" went. After watching 3 or 4 seperate tables (who arrived after us) served and their drink orders taken we decided that 15-20 mins without any service was too poor. We stood up and walked out. I think one waiter may have noticed us then but still nothing was said. With the many varying options available in Williamstown I wouldn't bother with your time and money here. Plenty of other nice restaurants who would be happy to serve you.
Restaurant Review
No kids menu! Kids had to order entrees, which made it a little difficult. Food took about 45-50 min to come out on a pretty quiet Tuesday night and the service felt a little clumsy and inexperienced. BUT the food was simply fantastic and made me forgive all the rest, which I'm sure will improve with time. I'd eat there again.

Finally a decent restaurant in Williamstown. Staff were friendly, prompt, accommodating and our steaks were fantastic to boot!

Awesome food... But.... Ok let's get the ( niggly ) negatives out the way first...

1 - No AC on & the place was uncomfortably warm

2 - Out of drinks for a wee while and despite the waiting staff wafting past our table about 10 times in a shortish space of time none was offered ( This is a pet hate of mine as other places where the staff are on the ball will constantly check your drinks & offer a refill as this is where most places makes a LOT of money!!! )

3 - Funny one this one. Ordered a bottle of Mrs Wigley Moscato... Bottle came and filled 2 champagne flutes. No more ( smallish 500ml bottle ) $ 28.00... fair enough... HOWEVER... A single glass is $ 7.50... Same amount in the glass... WTF??? This anomaly was bought to the attention of the nice lady running the place who was bemused at the pricing and deducted some of our bill... Nice touch. :-)

And the Positives...

Been to a LOT of steak places in Melbourne ( Meat & Wine Co, City Grill Room, Multiple Squires Lofts, Pier 35 Bar & Grill, Rare steak house ) and the Rump I had was the BEST i have ever had... Perfect... Just perfect.

The place only been open a couple of months so I guess the little niggles will get sorted...

We'll be back!!!

Highly recommend the squires loft. Best steak in williamstown, cooked to perfection and great range of sides to go with the perfect steak.

Will give it another go. Had dinner at Squires Loft Williamstown with a bunch of friends a few weeks ago. Great location - tucked away in a laneway downstairs in an old cellar. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed with my meal but the wine was great. I ordered my steak medium to well done and it was well over done. It was so tough and dry. My friend tasted my meal and she said it was dry. Her ribs on the other hand were lovely and tender. Most of the rest of our party said they were happy with their meal. Also bumped into another friend there who asked for her steak to be medium to well and also received it very well done. This is primarily a steak restaurant. The cook needs to get the steaks right. Also we weren't asked if we wanted dessert or coffees. When we asked the wait staff they told us the kitchen was closed. I will give it another go as I'm local and I want to like it as there are limited good restaurants in the area. Hopefully once they sort out their teething problems, it will be awesome!

Hidden treasure. Tucked away downstairs off a small lane way is Squires Loft, Williamstown. We've long travelled across the bridge to South Yarra (the only Squires I've rated). After dining at Williamstown last week, we don't need to travel anymore. The Squires in Williamstown was brilliant, familiar perfectly cooked steaks, great service and just the right ambience. The naked brick work and bluestone work really well together and we were fortunate to have a great waiter that just added to the experience. The place was busy, so I'd suggest booking ahead.
