Found a gem in Melbourne. Bookings are highly recommended. The front of house Komal is very accommodating and her service was excellent. Talking about the most important part food it was fantastic and perfect. Kathi rolls are a must try here. VFM, excellent food and service.

Visit this place to experience authentic Indian cuisine, especially, Bengali food. Try mouth water Bengali Dishes and more. A slice of Bengal's taste in Western suburbs of Victoria. Highly recommended.

Service was average. Food took about 1.5 hours to arrive. We had an elaborate order and the North Indian food was sub-par. We had a lot of expectations from the Bengali food and got food packed as well but had a really bad experience. The prawns in the Malai curry was not deveined which caused my wife to fall sick as soon as she ate it. Very bad experience!

Excellent food and service was good. The ambience could be improved but we really enjoyed authentic Kolkata (Bengal) food. Must try the coconut prawn curry šŸ˜‹

Best Bengali food in Melbourne! Hands down. The Golbarir kosha Mangsho is a must try. They have authentic bangali sweets and quite a variety of Desi Cocktails.

ą¦–ą§ą¦¬ ą¦ą¦¾ą¦²ą§‹ ą¦²ą§‡ą¦—ą§‡ą¦›ą§‡ą„¤ This is probably the only Kolkata style Bengali restaurant around Melbourne. The only place to get Kolkata style biriyani (with potato and boiled egg, less spicy and gravy, more aromatic as compared to Hyderabadi biryani) as well. Food was great, service was good as well. While north Indian food is easily available everywhere, this one is surely a refreshing change.
Asek Mohammad Salehin
Overall good but kosha meat that's must try for everyone. Chicken chaap try to avoid it. It's like regular curry. Biriyani if anyone wants to have rice then yeah go ahead. Overall customer service really good.

When you speak about Authentic Bengali food specially the dishes which are synonymous in Kolkata, we generally miss the taste, splendour and the authenticity of the dish here in Melbourne. As till date never ever I have found a restaurant where you will feel like you are eating in your home. It was so good. Taste is too good for every dish we had. Problem is not a single dish we tasted today could be said missing something. I highly recommend this place to all to taste authentic Bengali food from the heart of Kolkata. The owner and the chef were very cordial and we felt wonderful. Chef Anupam has magic in his hands. We had Fish festival special today where we tasted many dishes where every dish was too good. Even we had the Chicken and the Mutton Kasha as well whose taste is still present in our palates.

The food was super delicious, the moment you enter the restaurant you get this cozy warm feeling with the staff all smiling and welcoming you . The menu is so different as compared to other Indian restaurants and once the food arrives you canā€™t stop eating as itā€™s quality is first grade . A must recommend to all my indian and Aussie friends to try this hidden treasure once . Keep up the good work guys ļæ½

Brilliant authentic Bengali food. My husband and I were craving for some good Indian restaurant in Melbourne and here it is! Calcutta club lives up to its name in true sense. Loved the ambience and music and food and drinks. Thereā€™s nothing you can complain about in this restaurant. You are looked after perfectly by Tithi ļæ½ I recommend this place to anyone whoā€™s looking for great tasting quality food. 5 stars to this place.

The food was fantastic!!! starting from entree: the fish fry, egg devil & vegetable chop not only filled our "pet" but the bengali heart in us as well. Onto the main course, biryani was served with "aloo": a top of the chart craving for bengali foodies. The golbari mutton kosa and daab chingri is a must have here, though the dhonne chicken was not as expected. No bengali platter is complete without deserts and very few things can match up with misti doi. Apart from the food, the host Subhendu sir will treat you with a heartfelt "adda" just to put icing on the cake. It's a must visit place atleast for us (Bengalis) to keep alive the "Kolkata" & the " Bangali" in our hearts being miles away from our "Bari"... Thank you Calcutta Club!!! See you again soon!!!

Yesterday we went to dine in Calcutta club.We really liked their menu and food. The best thing I liked there out of the food we ordered is Munglai, it remind me of the Anadi in Kolkata. All the food very delicious and the best part is that it's homely .The ambience is good. The food is tasty with less spice.Even my LO enjoyed eating. The sponge rasogolla is also yummy. The Calculate club team is doing a great work.Really feeling good after having Bengali restaurant in town.

Hello Foodies and Bengalis šŸ˜ŠItā€™s time to rejoice. If you are fan of real Indian cuisine, go and taste the Melbourneā€™s most authentic, traditional, and delicious food in Calcutta Club. We have been there twice and thoroughly enjoyed the food, dĆ©cor, music and above all warm reception from owners which made us feel at home. Iā€™m giving few examples from our menu which can be worth having - Extraordinary entrĆ©e like Fish Fry, Prawn malai kebab with a welcome drink Aam Porar Sorbet (Read Aam Panna), mouth-watering mains like Bhetki Paturi, Mutton Resala, Dum Biriyani. Kudos to the owners (Subhendu, Bratadev, Priya and Tithi) and a great chef (Anupam). Your hard work has paid off. See you again. Cheers

The word Scrumptious defines this restaurant and more. Absolutely awesome Bengali food with great service every time we have been there. Creative at the same time holding onto authenticity, they have mastered the balance. Great value for money, yet classy. From Macher chop, macher matha diye daal Pabda fish to Nolen gurer Sandesh, each and every item was better than the other, could not single out which one was the best. Highly recommend. ļæ½ļæ½

We have ordered for a lunch party at home with people from different parts of India and the food was really delicious. Mr. Roy was very responsive to all the details of food and was delivered to our place on time. Every1 was praising both veg and nonveg items.
Garima Dewan

Great location, lovely decor. Great service and delicious menu highlighting Bengali classic and mughlai dishes. If you love Indian/Bengali food you will not be disappointed. By far the best quality Indian food in Melbourne. Will surely be back for more.

The change of management and chef has definitely uplifted the quality of food in Calcutta Club. Must try Biriyani, mutton rezala and veg jalfrazie. The rolls and aloo tikki chaat is also very yummy. Very good and will go back. Time to head back to Calcutta Club.

Excellent food. Great taste. Very cheerful staff. Service time could improve a bit. Overall a very satisfying experience for the stomach. šŸ‘Œ

Authentic Bengali food... Never had such real Bengali food outside West Bengal. We had a nice chat with the Chef and he is so passionate about his cooking. He is from Kolkata and knows genuine Bengali taste. Best thing I liked about this restaurant is that they havenā€™t made it a typical Indian restaurant with usual menu. Probably one of the reasons the ratings not that high... itā€™s a hidden treasure. A must visit for all Bengalis.
Mr.abhishek
We went to this place with one of our friend believing it to be a nice restaurant providing authentic bong cuisine and experience. Unfortunately nothing that we ordered was well made (the fish used for making fish fry was tasting as if it had gone bad, paneer makhni had sour paneer and the curry had a burnt aftertaste, Cholar daal tasted as if it had been cooked again with sub-standard oil (as it had a very oily taste to it). We ended up tasting the items but left all of it in the end. This was unfortunately not the end of our experience as they then overcharged us by about 50$. Repeated attempts to call this place resulted in no answer and I then texted the owner (whose mobile is published on the website). He mentioned that he would check the bill and get back. That was more than a week ago and am still waiting for his response. This owner seems to be rightly described in many other reviews as arrogant and full of himself as he did not even have the decency to apologise for this. They have changed the name of this place previously and I think have plans to do it again. Having experienced this place first hand let me tell you no matter how many times you change the name - you wont survive this business on the basis of this despicable attitude.
I wouldā€™ve given 5 star for my 1st visit here but the consecutive 4 visits were disastrous.

Finding a restaurant solely dedicated to Bengali cuisine in Melbourne was like finding treasure box. 1st me and my husband went there with few of our friends from Sydney. We were simply blown away by the array of items and the taste. We ordered like crazy.. loochi alu posto, chicken tandoori, golbari kosha mangso, mutton biryani, veg chop, and rosogolla. Everything was great. Serving was generous.

Since our first visit, weā€™ve been like a unsponsored promoter of this place. Next we ordered biryanis for a friendā€™s wedding. But the disaster just started from that day. We had to wait 1:30 hours for the order and guest couldnā€™t have food on time.

We still forgot and forgave only because we loved the food. Next visited with our cousins. To our biggest shame, since they went there only trusting our words, food was below average. Nothing tasted same as before. 1st we were told that tables were reserved and we had to wait 20 minutes. Even after 20 minutes we werenā€™t called and clearly could see that no one came for those ā€˜reservedā€™ tables. Upon realising that we were aware of their lies, they gave us one reserved table. Thisā€™s simply hilarious. Now coming to food, veg chop was burnt, kati roll is basically mayonnaise less wrap, biriyani dry and stale. Customer service is horrible and condition of toilet is unspeakable.

We still went back there 2 times and condition just got worsened. Never going back there and not recommending to any one. Itā€™s a shame in the name of bangalis and Bengali cuisine. No option for 0, hence 1 star.

Visited this place with my wife on a Saturday evening for dinner. It is located at the picturesque Williamstown town-center and is quite easy to locate. The ambience is quite cosy and calm, with a well-planned interior decor.

We ordered a fish fry plate, a kathi roll plate, a goat dum biryani and a plate of nolen gurer rasogolla. The fish fry was fantastic with the accompanying tangy kasundi (quite unique). The kathi roll was good, but one could sense that its taste has been tweaked to suite the local palate as well. We found the biryani to be quite average, and dearly missed the famous "Aloo" :-(. How can one not have the large chunk of aloo in Kolkata biryani?? In the deserts, the rasogolla was quite soft, warm and mildly sweet.

For 2 adults, the bill was 54 AUD and we had to pay a 5 AUD parking fee to park our vehicle in front of the restaurant.
Stale and rotten biriyani was served.
Arrived at 2pm. No food, which was booked for a set menu, was served before 2.30pm
No cutleries or napkins until we asked for it before 2.45pm.
Moglai was supposed to come with aloo which did not.
Can't post a zero rating hence 1.

Absolutely dismal customer service.Ā

Made a booking for my birthday dinner 3 weeks in advance and got an email from the manager confirming my booking. When we arrived after a 40 min drive, the restaurant was closed! Called the restaurant and owner said something along the lines of chefs wife being pregnant and also tried to deny I had a booking and that I had booking for another day.

After I was stern, he finally relented said maybe his business partner confirmed my booking and he was sorry.
And a curt sorry was all he would offer me. Too bad so sad, whatever attitude.Ā
No mention of trying to make it up or offer of a voucher or anything, nothing at all to make up for the troubles caused not to mention the disappointment this led to.Ā
Thank you Calcutta Club for totally spoiling my birthday.
Biswaroop Roy
A pretty good place to find real bengali food in Melbourne. Roy and his people are very friendly and nice. Nice interior. Keep it up guys. Weā€™ll go there again.

Excellent location but slightly towards the smaller side inside. We were a party of 4 adults and a baby on a pram. Which created a bit of an issue with space but they very kindly rearranged the tables a bit to accomodate us without disturbing the other diners. Food was as authentic as you will find anywhere in The city I suppose when it comes to Bengali food from Kolkata. We had a pleasant experience and would recommend this place to anyone with a craving for bengali food in Melbourne.
Rishabh Shukla
Its 3.5 actually, but due to coriander chicken, I got inclined chose 4, instead of 3. This place offers some authentic bengali dishes, and we tasted three of those! The combo of Luchi and Aloo posto was good, but I liked better the coriander chicken with rumali roti.
It is sad that we couldnā€™t get Rosugullas or Rasmalai...but maybe next time!
The ambience is good and so is the service and hospitality.
Ross.charles011
Had WORST experience.
Please be careful whenever they advertise saying unlimited food - they will only serve on table so NO buffet and thatā€™s what I & my friends experienced twice. There service is super slow. Example, It took 40 mins to serve starter and 1 hr+ for main course. The owner visited our table bragging about himself and introduced himself as a banker (quiet funny as we were not in a business meet). That speaks about the lacking customer service & quality.

I would seriously encourage the owner RAY to stop false advertisement. And improve the standard of food & service.

Probably a little late review. Went with a group of 8 people on a week night. Loved the ambience and the friendly host/owner. The food was amazingly delicious and quite different from the usual indian restaurants. There were a couple of folks in my group who were from Calcutta and they thoroughly enjoyed the authentic flavors of the food.
Would recommend everyone to try.

A nice initiative by a mid aged person from West Bengal in India and he tried his best to make it worth the name. Kolkata, which was known as Calcutta earlier is the capital of West Bengal state and has a distinct culinary culture which is quite different to the more well known North Indian and South Indian cuisine. In this regard, Calcutta Club is very different Indian restaurant.
As far as the food is concerned, being an Indian Bengali, I would not say, it is Bengali food at its best. We had an office party there with a set course of items. We ate Fish fries, which was good. Cauliflower Fritters were not very good in taste. We were mainly excited to taste the Luchi (a fried flatbread made of flour) which is a very common item in daily Bengali life. However, the Luchis were not that attractive here with most of them lacking the softness it must have. Luchi is generally eatn with Aloo Dum ( a curry made of Potato) and Cholar Dal (a preparation made of Bengal gram). These two were so so here. Next item was Chicken Dakbunglow ( a chicken curry with eggs) and I liked it. The item which is worth mentioning is Bhetki Paturi. This is a preparation of Bekti fish with mustard and cooked inside banana leaves. I must say, they deserve 5 stars in this. However, at the end, the dessert item Rosogolla, a famous sweet item made of cottage cheese with sugar syrup was not at all upto the mark. It was no way near to the authentic Bengali Rosogolla.
To summarise, a very different restaurant, any Indian food lover must try. If you are not a Bengali, I must say the small deviations will be neglected by you and you will love it.

The worst Indian restaurant in melbourne. Service was lousy, hospitality non existent and the food is garbage. The owner does not greet people, smile or even say bye or thank you. All that talk of nawabi, awadhi food and Bengali food of Calcutta on the website, the food was nothing like even non five star retail food outlets in Calcutta like Aminia, Shiraz, bhojohori manna etc leave aside the five star hotels and park street restaurants like Amber, Mocambo etc. and certainly nothing like nawabi or awadhi food. biryani was not cooked in Gawa ghee, no saffron used, rice was brown in color when it should be white and golden and mushy potato inside was taken from another leftover curry. The boiled egg had been boiled at least two days ago. The meat was not freshly cooked that day and it smelled and biryani was not cooked in a dum in a sealed pot as they claim on site. In fact they cook a few days a week and rest of the days you will get fed leftovers. And if you order something they do not have but have leftover of another curry then they will give you that curry and claim itā€™s the same you ordered and you cannot do anything unless you know the finer differences between the different curries. Especially if you do takeaway, then you cannot go back to them. Clever right! Also unhygienic wooden boards being used to serve food! their review here is stacked by related people!

As a Bengali this place reminded me of the flavours of home. It was refreshing to see a place that finally retained the authentic taste of where it came from and not change its palette to cater to the western market

What a fab place
Sudip Chakraborty
Fantastic place on Williamstown seafront serving the best of dishes from West Bengal (eastern state of India bordering Bangladesh).

For someone who has been missing the delicacies from the food capital of India it is a must go!

The biryanis are almost the best out of Kolkata and so was the Lamb Curry.

But guess what, this is not just a Bengali food restaurant, but serves the best of other cuisine as well. The Butter Chicken was one of the best we have ever had even back in India!!

Will surely be back to try other items on the menu..

SUPER IMPRESSED! We went in on a Monday night to order a takeaway and we were greeted by the owner Roy who was friendly and offered great recommendations. We tried a couple of dishes including the devil eggs and they were all delicious. Will highly recommend, we will be back for sure.

Food was lovely. Truly delicious! Service while very friendly seemed a little inexperienced and probably needed to understand we were there to spend time with each other not chatting to her. Bathroom maintenance seriously needs attention, a door was broken and floor tiles near entrance were dangerously loosely fixed! Will definitely give another go, hope they can iron out the bugs

Live the place, first time in Melbourne I have felt the taste of home cooked foods... must try it. However they need to improve in the service and etc.. apart from that the ambiance and the hospitality is great. Absolutely love the place. Will again.

This is the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. My husband and I are big foodies and love trying new places and this place is by far the best Indian restaurant that we swear by. The food quality never lets us down. The chef takes the pain of creating all
The sauces and marinates from the scratch and it reflects in the food quality and you taste each and every ingredient- literally! We never get bored of the place or the food. The decor is quaint and very close to dine dining experience in service and food quality. The liquor is also chosen very well which goes well with Indian flavours and pallets. My husband and I would definitely recommend this place every time and anytime šŸ˜Š

5th visit to Calcutta Club Williamstown. Delicious authentic regional Kolcuta cuisine. Not your run of the mill Indian. Give them a go! We try and have something different every time we come. Tonight the "vegetable chop" was the standout dish..4 huge vegetable patties...tasty tasty tasty.
FoodHedonist
Pretty elegant from what I had expected. Definitely a good attmept at the West Bengal (India) cuisine. Hats off to the owners for that. I really hope they improve on the flavours as everything else about the place is good.
Arpita Mazumdar
Finally an Indian restaurant which doesn't alter the flavours & brings you really close to India. If you are are a Bong, you would love this place. We tried this place after a couple of friends recommended & boy oh boy it stands out. We started off with Pora Aamer Shorbot, Fish Fry & Mutton chop. Fish Fry & Mutton chop were really good. What blew our mind is the Chicken & Goat Biryani which reminded us of 'Arsalan'. Last but not the least we also tried Luchi & Golbari Kosha Mangsho & take our word "DO ORDER IT". It was fantastic! The price is slightly on the higher end but it is worth every penny. Do try this place, you won't be disappointed!
Lavkesh Arora
Overrated and expensive and slow. Ordered a take away curry Dimer Dalma (basically a glorified egg curry) and was told to come back after 10 minutes, multiple visits and almost 30 mins later I finally get my take away. First impressions - Portion size is hilariously small, a grand total of two eggs and it does not taste like the recipe. Not coming back.
Stephanie Guerillot
My wife and son and I tried this new place last night. It feels as though they are still learning the ropes. The menu seems quite complex and a little tricky to navigate. The food took quite a while to arrive. When it came it was delicious, but there was much less than we were expecting. For instance, the $26 lamb cutlets dish was only two small cutlets. They were delicious, but given it wasnā€™t on the entree page, we were surprised to see only two small cutlets on the plate. The lamb curry was also delicious, but it too was smaller than we were expecting. Our impression is that the food is at another level, which is very welcome on Nelson place, but we think they will need to re-calibrate somewhat if they are to find the right balance and carve out a following from locals.

Authentic Bengali food in the heart of Williamstown! Great location and mindblowing food! I loved the Bengali style fish fry and the mutton cutlet. Will definitely come back again.

I should have taken a photo of the amazing food, but we ate it all too quickly!
What a great new addition to the local Willi restaurant options. Canā€™t wait to come back and try all the options I couldnā€™t fit in tonight :)
