Review Flat Rock Brew Cafe - Willoughby

A small bar/pub that serves their own beers as well as a rotation of various other craft beers. They also serve a few good selection of food (they have Beef Wellington on the menu!). Staff are super nice and very friendly. Great atmosphere, perfect for hanging out.

A quiet little Brew Cafe with the welcome option of seating outside, which is delightful on a warm day. The beer selection is decent, and the food options are good. Come here for a quiet night of conversation and beers. Live music on a Sunday afternoon is a nice addition.

Great beer but poor food used to be a hallmark of Flat Rock. I don't know if they reorganized their kitchen or simply got new chefs but the food lately has been much, much, better lately. The steak that I had tonight was 5/5.

Very disappointed with the beef Sunday roast . The meat had never seen the inside of an oven. It was a rump steak. The vegetables weren’t fresh. The gravy and the Yorkshire pud were nice but very small portions were given.

Neat place with great IPA’s on tap. Bench seating with a good view out onto the street. Great place to relax over a beer EDIT: pale ale tasted very ordinary, like a Carlton draught or similar beer

Awesome little microbrewery! Try the tasting paddle if you can't decide what to get. Highly recommend the Stout and they also do a mean steak. Great cosy spot on a Saturday afternoon with friends.

If you like craft beer and are not willing to drink megaswill, then Flat Rock Brew Cafe is pretty much your best bet in the area. There's always a good selection of beers on tap and the fridge often has some interesting (and expensive) beers too. There are a couple of hand pumps for that authentic pint. The menu has a fairly standard selection of pub dishes, so you won't go hungry, but this is by no means a gourmet dining destination. If you are after a few good beers with a standard pub meal to go with them, you'll do fine at Flat Rock.

Great selection of beer. Both from their own brewery and guest beer on tap. The variety is always exceptional and they also do Growler refills. We’ve gone a few times and ordered snacks. Maybe not gourmet and a lot of it is from frozen but it’s edible and you mainly go for the beer. Staff are efficient. Some are friendly and really knowledgeable about beer and tastes. Others (well, only one that we’ve seen so far) could use a little bit of training in being a bit more polite in how they address clients and understanding the products they sell. Not a deal-breaker for me but others might not appreciate the way they get spoken to.

Great little bar in a really unlikely place. Pleasant ambience - beer focused but also food and wine - so not really a beer bar, but definitely a place for enjoying good beer. A handful of beers on tap and an extensive menu of bottled beers. Great music and at appropriate volume. Friendly helpful service. Excellent food. A little pricey - but it's North Shore Sydney.

Huge thank you to Karl and the team for putting on an epic party to celebrate our engagement last weekend, with around 100 guests taking over the place on Sunday afternoon. The food, wine and, most importantly, the beer completely exceeded our expectations - it was all plentiful and absolutely delicious. One of the best bits was the special kids' space that Karl arranged upstairs, where the little ones could play and have a great time, while the parents relaxed downstairs. Nothing was too much trouble and our guests can't stop telling us how much fun they had. We cannot recommend the Flat Rock Brew Cafe highly enough, so definitely consider it for your next event! Thanks guys!

As a local, I was so excited to discover this place. Went three times in the last week and had planned on doing a work lunch there today. Amazing wines by the glass in a really unique and original setting. Last night we decided to try their food. What a mistake that was!! The chicken schnitzel was not freshly made, but like one in the Woolies deli for $2. It was overcooked and tasted like fish, so had clearly been cooked in the same oil as the fish. Gross! The Beef Wellington was a thick piece of chewy meat and also overdone. The flavour was actually ok though so I guess this justifies the one star rating! The Beef Bourguignon pie was a disgrace to pies. Tough and chewy pieces of meat, swimming around in tomato liquid. I had one taste and ate no more. The staff avoided asking us if the food was ok and when we told the barman that the food wasn't great, he cut me off and said 'Thanks for the feedback, I assume it was cold' and wouldn't let me give any more feedback. Really disappointing and I will never be back. We'll go elsewhere in Crows Nest today where there are numerous other places offering great service and quality food.

Really friendly staff and exceptional beer. Had a pot pie which was delicious with flaky crust of pastry on top of lovely meat. American cheesecake to finish was also excellent. Pride of place has to be the beers though. A truly stupendous English Dark Mild (what is that I hear all you non-poms say) and a cracking strong sour saison. A mecca for fans of cask-conditioned ales. Well done Karl and gang.

Good variety of beer and wine, changes frequently. The Whiskey nights are great too, book early and eat first ! Food is hit and miss, burgers and classics are best, and the specials like the Jerk Chicken are outstanding :) Very friendly staff who have a stake in the bar, they know their craft and offer good guidance.

Great beer and great staff. Even got my favourite beer on tap for the Christmas party, service can't get better than that!

Great beer selection and great food. A fun place. I'll be back.

A great little joint for beer lovers or a catch up with friends. Great staff and great beers brewed in house. Go. Enjoy. Repeat.

What an amazing place for craft beer lovers! I haven't been anywhere where they'd have such a great selection of beers from all around the world. The food was excellent too (try the salt & pepper squid or the delicious naan) and the staff very nice, helpful and definitely know about beer.... I am definitely coming back for more! Keep up the great work guys!!!!

A hidden gem. love the beers although the beers love my waist and the Doctor says whine and I said I am not complaining. The wine list whilst small is quality and inexpensive and I am not whining.

Loved the place, tried several beers I'd not had before, they were good, also shared some food with my wife and son, great time, we will definitely return

If you love craft beer this is the place! Have checked out many of the Sydney craft pubs and restaurants but the Flat Rock has the best quality selection of bottled from around the world I have yet to come across. The house brews are excellent and the only problem I had with the tap selection was making a decision. Luckily the staff is helpful friendly and most of all knowledgeable. As a bonus the food is excellent and there was something for everyone.

They let me drink here. And I can influence the drawings on the blackboard.

An amazingly intimate little pit stop - gorgeous German Beer & the wine list is lovely - great food & a very relaxing place to watch the world go by :)

Great brew and great food...this is the place to kickback and relax with friends.

Great place for a selection of craft beers and pub grub.

Nice bar with some outside tables, limited menu and hours so not much of cafe though. I didn't think that much of the beer, though. The pale ale was very unhoppy and rather syrupy without being fruity like the Marrickville ales, while the English bitter (which at least features a hand pump) was a bit sludgy, almost like they'd mixed it up with the porter on the pump next to it.

$30 for 2 small American craft beers.
A good place for those looking for a real craft beer experience. Decor is nothing special but has some outdoor seating which would be nice in the warmer months.

This is a very special craft beer bar, not simply a local, not simply a pub food cafe, not simply a bar but an extraordinary place that deserves attention by anyone who is interested in real beer. Any beer bar that has westvleteren for sale has to be taken seriously. Even if you can't afford the 72$ a bottle, a shared thimbleful is all you need to get a taste of beer nirvana.

Brilliant

Flat Rock brew Cafe is more of a bar than a cafe with local Flat Rock Brews on tap and great selection of crazy beers you've probably not seen before. We grab a booth (book if its peak times) and sample flights of different brews along with odd ones like BACON and MAPLE beer (weird). We miss the Naan bread (not on the menu any more) but the buffalo wings, fries and fish and chips are perfect with a cold beer. We visit often. A local GEM in Naremburn.

I love this place. Exactly what a "home bar" should look like: cozy with friendly and communicative staff, clever and cleverly limited food options that punch above the "pub fare" weight and a tap list that's both conservative and innovative. Beer: several and varied options brewed on-premise coupled with a selection of Aussie craft beers. Always a diverse set in terms of beer styles - on my last visit I had a summer ale, a rye IPA, a saison, a pale ale, a biere de garde and a coconut ale. Bar has a hand pump.

Nice ambience for a small room when it's not crowded and very noisy after 6. Nice micro beers from a selection of brewers but usually only one is made on the premises.
Bruce
Great place for handcrafted and real ales, many brewed by the owners. Tapas is good and excellent variety. Staff are relaxed, friendly and helpful. Nice ambience.
