Review Journeyman - Windsor

Mark Nussy
Good food not big serves (stars are for the food, service and decor) ... but a little cold inside because they don't close the front door. Also was very difficult paying as they don't split bills. We ended up paying $3 in fees as we had to send funds to/from our overseas guest.

Underwhelming toast. I was assured that toast could be made vegan but with no spread my vegiemite toast was dry & my meal presentation lackluster. Paid extra for side of avo & kale. My friends meal was tasty & beautifully plated. Coconut milk Tumeric late was delicious as was my friends OJ. Drinks were great not sure if eat here again. Indoor seating with outdoor parklet (no shade outdoors).

Had the pork belly benny, very impressive. Nice apple slice neutralised the meaty taste of the pork belly, poached eggs are perfectly melted on them, very good combination!!!coffe is good, not burned, but bit cold. Definitely good place to go!!!

There are a lot of nice cafes in Windsor. However, in my opinion, Journeyman is the best cafe in Windsor. Both food and coffee are amazing, worth visiting!
Kana Ristic
Had high expectations since the reviews were good but was pretty disappointed in the lack of prompt service despite being quiet. Food quality was good though with fresh tasting ingredients
Cindy Lee
Chilli scramble not too spicy but can feel is designed delicately. Like the beetroots. Toast can be a bit softer. Staff especially a shaven-headed boy are very friendly.
Dana Han
Friendly staff and such a cosy atmosphere. Had the Persian feta potato croquettes and it was so good. The flavours worked together so well. Highly recommend

One of the beast breakfasts I have had, the coffee was hot, strong & they serve a range of milks for those intolerant to cows. We had the big breakfast, croquettes & smashed avo & all three were perfect, and very generous portions. A hot tip, add a side of candied bacon to share, it was to die for.

Yum yum & yum lovin this place so much. Service amazing and meal so good. Definitely will return and work way down menu to try lots more

Service was great and staff really friendly. Food was terrible. One of the worst breakfasts I have had in Melbourne. Eggs Benedict with pulled pork was so dry, lacked flavour and serving was small. 2nd time there and second time the food was well below an acceptable standard. 1 star is for the friendly staff.

Omg amazing. great vibe. Excellent service. Best coffee and breakfast was to die for ended up going back on sunday aswell. Great overall experience. Will defently be back

Super urban staff made us feel welcome even tho it was busy and they had run out of most meals we still had a good time and a lovely brunch the staff were great nothing but helpful and happy 🙋🏻‍♂️🤙
Ashleigh Donovan
The place is jammed with people and the staff cannot manage service. I was asked to move 3 times whilst eating on a shared table by staff and after the 3rd time I left frustrated as I couldn't enjoy a meal without interruption. To top it I ended my experience with the female on the register being the rudest staff member of them all.

A very well deserved 9/10 on the JATS Scale. Great service, fabulous chai, beautiful meals, friendly staff. Can’t fault this one

Great place for an all day breakfast for looked great and tasted even better

My go to place for Bircher 😍 lovely staff, coffee and a good menu, great vegan options too! <br/>

Throwback to a few months ago: <br/>journeyman is by far the best brunch place I have ever been to in my life. Every single dish exceeded my expectations. I would've given the food a 5/5 if the waffles were served hot - it was our mistake to not request for it to be served after the savoury dishes. We ordered the Almond and Cornflake Crispy Chicken Burger, JM Eggs Benedict, Persian Fetta Potato Croquette and the Belgian Waffles. For the drinks: soy chai latte, hot chocolate and cappucino freddos. @journeymancafe is currently my new favourite brunch place. I will be back and I can't recommend this place enough!! ⠀<br/>Food: 4.5/5⠀<br/>Service: 4.2/5 ⠀<br/>Ambience: 3.8/5⠀

the chicken burger was really good!!! but the size of matcha latte was mini…
Orange Apple
Great place lots of vegetarian options

This was my place for a catch up with a couple of friends. Got their eggs Benedict, pancakes and the big brekkie for me as i was quite hungry. A really nice vibe going in the place and i was told that we were lucky as there's a usual 15 minute wait before getting a table.<br/><br/>The eggs Benedict with a crispy pork belly goes perfectly together and was a welcome combination to my tastebuds. The apple adds to the crunch required and everything on the late went together like a beautiful symphony.<br/><br/>The banana pancakes with the ice cream was also quite delicious. Finally, the guy who expected the best dish gets the most boring big brekkie with really hard sourdough bread.<br/><br/>Skip the big brekkie & you've got a great place.

Didn't have to wait long to get a seat for two on a Saturday morning, however the journey between walking through the door to the seat was far from a pleasing one here at Journeyman. <br/>'We'd like a table for 2 please', the waitress at the door stared at us then proceed to tilt her head towards another waitress motioning us to follow her. (I guess actions speak louder than words some might say?) Just as we were about to reach the our table, we heard a lady near the front door half yelling 'EXCUSE ME, I've got a waiting list you're gonna have to WAIT at the front door' We paused and stood confused, while she repeated what she said. Back to the front door we go, and were left in our confusion and unattended for a couple of minutes as more people started to walk through the door. Understand it's a busy cafe and we're more than happy to wait, but felt that the system was just messy and little more communication would have spared us the confusion trying to figure out what we should be doing. <br/>Nonetheless, no harm done and was shown to our seats by the window eventually. The wait for coffee and food didn't take long. Food was ok, nothing stood out but nothing to fault as well. <br/>Going a little off topic on a review, throughout our dining experience we noticed two ladies sitting outside with their two chihuahuas. One of them ended up pulling a chair from the empty table next to them so both pooches could sit on it. We also noticed they were placing food bits on the chair while the two munched and licked away. I love dogs, and have no issues with dog owners bringing their pets to cafes while they enjoy their meal. But I dare not imagine the next patron who might be sitting on that particular chair that's covered with food bits and dog saliva. Different waitresses noticed it, but none mentioned anything. Maybe it's not such a big deal?

Coffee was good, but not great! Eggs benedict was so yummy!😋

We waited 15 minutes for a table for 2 on a Sunday at 11am which is much less than I expected that time for this popular cafe. They were very busy, the order probably took 30 mins to arrive which is fine but when it did it was wrong- wrong type of bread, smashed avo without peas as per the menu, sliced tomato instead of roasted. The girl who took our order was on struggle street. I wouldn’t return given the service. This tends to be a trend at these popular haunts unfortunately

BEST CAFE IN WINDSOR EVER!!! Loved my big breakfast and chilli scramble. The cold brew coffee I had was absolutely lovely as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and atmosphere.
Anna Mac
Delicious food with a difference. Great pairing of flavours and textures here, has now become one of my favourite places to eat. Gets busy on the weekends but wait is only 10 mins usually. It is a place where it can be quite loud and bustling but staff are super friendly and abundant, and the food and drinks don’t take that long. Well worth checking it out.

THE WORST SERVICE THAT I EVER HAVE!<br/>So my friend had made a reservation for 6 people today but it wasn’t on the system. N they told us that becoz today is public holiday so they don’t take reservations, but that’s okay for us to wait. Then the staff offer me to sit outside and asked me to take 2 tables outside coz there’re 6 of us. <br/>A lady came with her dog, she wanted to take one of my table. ( that time my friends haven’t arrived yet) then I told her, oh it’s occupied and I’ve 6 people. She insisted to take my table becoz my friends hadn’t arrived yet. <br/>Then the staff came out and had a look of the situation. the staff didn’t help me but helped that lady. He bossed me around and I needed to queue up again🤷🏽‍♀️<br/>Very bad attitude as I’ve made a reservation, that’s your matter of not informing us no reservation took for public holiday! And I arrived and occupied the table first, so I should have been served but not being bossed here and there.<br/>Will never come again and not going to recommend to any of my friends ever!!!

Special and good, but sort of overrated.<br/><br/>FOOD: I ordered the Roast Mushroom Portobello Benedict and it was a really different combination and I’d never thought I would ever be able to say I liked cauliflower :o But the cauliflower truffle puree was really really good and it went well with the mushroom! The english muffin was also really good and it really gave it the CLASSIC eggs benedict feel. The mushrooms were done well and I don’t know mushroom ketchup is so I can’t really comment on that<br/><br/>SERVICE: Bad. They were pretty unwelcoming and not friendly at all. <br/><br/>Overall, Journeyman is a beautiful cafe with some pretty good food but personally, not one of the best. Just okay.

What a quality cafe serving extremely good looking tasty brunches! <br/><br/>Upon arrival we were seated, given water and asked if we would like a coffee. I always see this part of service is how i know if it’s going to to be a good brunch or not. And it was done to perfection so I knew we were in for some good food! <br/><br/>I ordered the green bowl with some mushrooms. The veggies were cooked and seasoned well. It was all extremely tasty and the eggs poached to top quality. The dish itself was very pretty and the addition of crunchy almonds and Labneh made for textual differences. Top quality green bowl. <br/><br/>My buddy got the smashed avo and really enjoyed it. Very well presented and also two great poachies.<br/><br/>Awesome food, good service and great cafe vibes. I will be back! <br/><br/>Also mention to Alex who was our server and was ace. <br/>

Friendly, quick service. Delicious food. Presentation was excellent. Chilled vibe inside, will definitely be back.

Absolutely delicious coffee in a beautiful, roomy space. Extra points for stocking Oatly. My extra hot oat flat white was perfect and prepared quickly.
FoodieInMel
Been there many times, the coffee used to be good, and the menu as well, the past couple of times we visited, was quite disappointed of our orders, and the service was a bit unfriendly.

Managed to fit 8 of us in on a busy Sunday brunch, There is so much choice I ended up getting two plates of food. The chicken burger is made with thighs so it’s bursting with flavour - coffee was great and the maple bacon nearly sent me into a coma. I only give 5’s or no rating at all. Coming again.

Good food and good coffee. We had the mushroom Benedict and the croquette. Soy latte, cappuccino, and soy chai latte all on point. Good job and keep up the great quality 👌👌

❤️ Follow me on Instagram for more food adventures and honest reviews: @foodietwentyfour7 <br/><br/>This cafe surprised me in every aspect! Very simple menu but dishes turn out to be super delicious!!!<br/>🥔🧀Persian Fetta Potato Croquette<br/>Loved that kale was very crispy and well seasoned! Everything tasted so yummy individually and together!<br/>The portion of this dish was big! I was a bit greedy to order extra bacon becoz I was worry the dish won’t be fulfilling for me coz it’s vegan🙈 But I was wrong! I believe it would be one of the best vegan dish I’ve ever had if I didn’t add bacon! 🙌🏻<br/>🍞🍆Moroccan Grilled Eggplant & Chickpea Ragu (V)<br/>My friend ordered this and I had a few bites. 😂 The olive oil and flatbread is such a good combination! The aroma is delicious!!!<br/>Love this place! Highly recommend! 🙌🏻

Not that this place needs my review but I live across the road and I am thrilled to have found my favourite new cafe. <br/><br/>Simple dishes and not too creative in terms of menu but the food is fantastic and the staff attentive and friendly.<br/><br/>Definitely my new go to on weekends.

Love this cafe! It has such a good vibe and lots of amazing food that is interesting and delicious. <br/>My favourite is the Persian feta croquette- yum!

Overall score: 19/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>in 5 words: brunch & coffee at chapel<br/>*<br/>Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - ✅☕️Duke coffee roasters serves up reliably great coffee here. The coffee is quite strong and acidic, so you probably won’t need another cup for the day. If you are a tourist, do get the beans as a souvenir for yourself. Your future self will thank you.<br/>✅love the Apple and pork belly combination on the classic eggs ben. One of the better eggs ben in the area.<br/>✅the potato croquette was delicious, and the crispy kale was executed perfectly.
<br/>*<br/>Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - there’s a clear audible buzz in the cafe on a Saturday morning, which I really enjoy. Ample indoor and outdoor seats. Cute wooden benches by the window - where I love to people watch.
<br/>*<br/>Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- pricing is standard for brunch - Coffee costs $4, while brunch dishes range between $19-$21. Portions are huge too.
<br/>*<br/>Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - the brunch food was visually beautiful, especially the potato croquette - a beautiful congregation of orange and greens!
<br/>*<br/>Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- the cafe staff were pleasant and friendly. Coffee came pretty quickly!

I read about this place in the Qantas in-flight magazine and thought of checking it out for a weekend brunch. We didn’t have to wait for a table, which was a big thumbs up given the serpentine queues for almost every brunch place in town. <br/>Both the items we ordered were very delicious. I especially liked the semolina cake - novel concept, haven’t seen it anywhere else.. <br/>This is a great brunch place to try out if you’re looking for one in the surrounds of Prahran - Windsor ..
㊙️ The Traveling Foodie
High expectations .. fast service .. presentation is good sense of colour mixture. Taste is ok but not sensational .. maybe because we were there at 1pm . Staff feel tired after a long days work.<br/><br/><br/>The serving are small and do not feel it’s worth the mid high price. May the high rental at Windsor ..
Food Lover
Food looked great but unfortunately was bland and needed lots of seasoning- some of the mushrooms on my plate were cold towards the middle and there was an element that left my mouth feeling a little gritty, glad I ordered the chorizo side as it was the tastiest thing in my plate - coffee was ok- staff were super friendly.
Anna Fhaumnuaypol
I’ve been here twice and ordered their eggs benny. Though I really like it, I wish there was a bit of a side salad or veggies of some sorts to cut down the sauce put on the English muffin. <br/><br/>My friend ordered the waffles and really like their use of sour fruits to cut down the sweetness of the waffles and sauces. Pecans are so nice and works really well in the dish as well. <br/><br/>Asked for the Wifi but was surprised to be told they dont have it :(

When ‘adventures’ lead you to the ‘journey’ of a tremendous feed 💁🏼‍♀️ @journeymancafe 🌿🥗🍳<br/><br/>The journey was well worth the trek with a prize revealed at the end... Charred Greens with poached eggs, Chermoula, labneh, capers, with almonds = refuelled at last! Stay tuned for the next dish to be revealed....this ones especially great for #vegans ✔️<br/><br/>Moroccan grilled eggplant and chickpea ragu with coriander black sesame seed pesto, dukkah, flatbread & topped with cashew butter! 🍆🌿🍞<br/><br/>Thanks for your wonderful hospitality @journeymancafe it was great to see your incredible menu / cafe still flourishing since my last visit 👏🏼💕🌿

Chill vibes!!! It’s on the chapel St , nice ambience, good good, friendly staff. I ordered Skinny Latte and roast portobello mushroom benedict which was quite filling and yummy! 👌🏻

One of my all time favourite brunch places. Coffee is always on point and I love their menu selections. Everything looks and tastes delicious. There’s just something so je ne sais quoi about the flavours and tastes that it can only be experienced through coming for yourself and tasting it. <br/><br/>Service is prompt and friendly and the place has a lovely vibrant buzz whether you’re there for a cosy catchup or some personal time-out to read or journal over great coffee and a sweet or savoury treat.
Vivian Y
The food definitely exceeded my expectations:) Mushroom Benedict was nicely earthy, and paired very well with the eggs. Really enjoyed how they used English muffins rather than regular toast, made it really easy to cut. Excellent coffee as well
Eleanor
Good food and good coffee, would come back here again<br/>Applaud them for good plating, willingness to cater to food requirements and serving perfect temperature coffees 😋<br/>One thing to improve would be service, as I had the corner table and we were constantly overlooked by the staff
Srslyfoods
Well I was highly recommended this place ... it’s a must<br/>Well I wasn’t disappointed .. I have to rate it as one of the BEST so far ... <br/>Once seated , our meals came out efficiently , my coffee was perfect <br/>I can’t explain how delicious every single meal was .. definitely worth a visit if you come to Melbourne

I think this is a place for breakfast. Both our lunches were most disappointing, quite bland even though the quality of produced was good. The grilled vegetable plate was inconsistent with different vegetables cooked from near raw to over cooked. Flavors were confused. The chicken burger was dry and lacked flavor. The chicken filet was crumbed and well cooked and the internal garnish sparse and plain... some sliced red cabbage and spinach leaves. The bun was fresh but was also dry... some butter or aioli spread would have helped. The sweet corn tomato salsa hash was also dry and lacked flavor. Casting through the menu it is dominated with eggs plus the usual add ons. I’m sure it would be great for breakfast but lunch choices are limited if you don’t want to eat eggs.

We don’t know but there’s no doubt that Melbourne does breakfast well and there’s plenty of amazing places to choose from when it comes to getting your AM feed on. One destination to put on your breakfast bucket list – if that’s actually a thing, is the Journeyman Café on Chapel Street, Windsor.
Jim Williams
Had the chili scramble - was great. Recommend adding bacon as it’s next level. GF had the croquettes - was also great. Will go back again definitely

A really beautiful cafe in the heart of Chapel St., with really beautiful food. We ordered the blueberry compote waffles which were absolutely delicious, especially with the lemon cream and choc ganache. The feta potato croquettes were great; crunchy on the outside and super fluffy on the inside. The fried kale and corn purée really made the dish sing. The croquettes did lack a bit of salt, however there were shakers available. Staff very attentive and kind!
Junonia
Friendly staffs & delicious food. Ordered eggs benedict and belgian waffle, both are superb. The only minus is how packed the place is, that some spots are not cleaned properly and you might get ignored by the staffs.
Chips Before Dips
Really enjoyed this Sunday brunch. The menu is different without being TOO far removed from what we really want, some bacon and eggs with some extra offerings thrown in. <br/>I had the mushroom benedict with chorizo, and it was delicious. Got lucky and managed to find a table quite quickly too.<br/>Staff were very attentive despite the packed cafe.<br/>Definitely one of the best brekkys I’ve had in Melbourne
Andy Han
the guy came up the idea to add an apple slice into an egg benny must be a talent. the dish became so fresh and outstanding. and the pumpkin pancake was made of smashed pumpkin and was really well cooked, and at the side the pickled red onion just balanced the oily feel.<br/>and the soy latte didn’t disappoint, the taste of both coffee and soy were strong, but perfectly mixed.<br/>SPOILER: i thought the balls beside bennies were little potatoes but actually they were apple scoops.
Wendy
Great place with full of customers. The food was amazing, my friend tried their signature dish of eggs Benedict. I tried the chilli scrambled eggs, the sauce is very surprising and the chilli taste is just right. Will come again next time when I’m in Windsor.

One of my favourite breakfast spots in Melbourne! The Journey mans benny is to die for!! Delicious coffee too! Service is fast and everyone is very accomadating
Kris L
One of my favourite breakfast spots! It’s getting busier so try to avoid peak brunch times if you’re not a fan of queues. Even so, it’s worth the wait! I love the vibes here (and it’s a lot bigger than it looks) and food is always on point!
Dani_ghina
Friendly and welcoming staff, coffe is excellent and the menu is jaw dropping! I had the best eggs Benedict of my life!!! They always have the highest zonato rating for a reason!
Rifan Thamrin
I have loved this cafe ever since I was a uni student studying around the area. I haven't been to this place ever since they changed the name, but oh man! The quality of the food have never changed. Was so glad that I came back!!
Blair
The food was very good and the coffee as well. Staff was very kind. Located on Chapel St where has many hidden gems. But this one definitely worth to try. Especially having brekky at the outside dining area was a great moment.

4.5/5 <br/><br/>After having Journeyman bookmarked for a while it was time to visit this cafe.<br/><br/>I liked the polished floors and the big wooden bench seat, very rustic and industrial inside. <br/><br/>The service was quick. <br/><br/>I ordered free range eggs on sourdough toast. The eggs were creamy and tasty, and it just needed a bit of seasoning or some chilli to make it the perfect dish for me. The sourdough bread was excellent too. <br/><br/>Overall this was a great meal and one place not to be missed.
Daniel Chee
Great vibe with casual brunch menu. Nothing fancy but just right for a brunch day out. Average wait time. Not so friendly staffs. Average coffee.
Lin B
Great coffee and service. Varied menu options that differ from the norm. Sophicated menu but execution and flavours were just slightly off for me. For example soggy bread and cold poached eggs. It was extremely cold in the restaurant also which is disappointing on a cold morning.
Ferry Gondo
Had been waiting for the chance to eat here and finally got it. Ordered the brunch staple: Eggs Benedict.<br/><br/>What I liked most was the benedict sauce itself. It used maple as the ingredient which provide a really exciting balance of sweetness and tang in the sauce.<br/><br/>The house made crumpets were fluffy and layered with BBQ sauce to serve as a brilliant supporting act for the roast pork belly.<br/> <br/>This may sound so sweet, but the provision of green apple lights up the entire palate as it provides freshness and sweet-acidic note to tie everything together.<br/><br/>Top.

Real rating 4.5 ⭐️<br/><br/>We made our journey to journeyman and boy was it worth the trip!<br/><br/>Belgian waffles - being a massive sweet tooth, this came to my attention and I was so glad that I ordered it! Accompanied with blueberry compote, strawberry, macadamia crumble, chocolate ganache and lemon cream - this was my dream dish. The best part of this was that each element did not overpower each other and the sweetness was just right (not overly sweet but still indulgent enough)! This was the highlight of my journey! 🤩<br/><br/>Journeyman eggs benedict - what made this dish interesting was the English muffin and apple spinach which I thought was pretty creative from the other eggs benny that I’ve seen! Think of it like a McMuffin but with poached eggs, pork belly and others but deconstructed! 👄<br/><br/>Thank you Journeyman for giving us such an awesome experience and we will be back to try the rest of your wonderful menu! 🙌
Jodie Poh
I feel the food was pretty average. Not as good as the rating show. It’s pretty small and crowded and there is usually a line. Would not recommend for people who love meat. But they have a good vegan and vegetarian selection.
Evelyn Chen
A quite popular cafe in Windsor! Everyday there are crowds of people sitting here enjoying their morning time. I had my latte and eggs benny that day and they were great! I was impressed by how they treat apples because they looked like potatoes actually. Not until I tasted I didn't know that they were apples. I was also very satisfied with the sauce on eggs benny. The staffs were good as well. In general it was a wonderful experience.
Mills
Randomly found this place on zomato and seeing we were in the area and it had a pretty high rating we decided to see what the fuss was about, we definitely weren’t left disappointed! <br/>The coffee here is fantastic and working in the city area for the last 10 years I’ve been privileged to some damn good coffee . I can say this place is in my top 5 coffee places in Melbourne!<br/>Now to the food. I ordered the avocado hummus toast and my wife ordered the Persian feta potato croquette. I loved my dish however thought hers was average which is the only reason why I’m not giving this place a 5.<br/>The servings are definitely very generous as what most of the other reviews have mentioned and the service is friendly and attentive too.
Vincent Wang
5 stars just for the waffles. <br/><br/>The Belgian waffles were not drenched in syrup but instead still had a soft crispy edge to it. The creams were served on the side so people can mix it with the waffle at their own discretion. The crumbles and macadamia perfectly complements the blueberries and added a whole different texture to the dish. <br/><br/>Will definitely be back for the best waffles I’ve ever had, if the cafe didn’t have a 40 minutes waiting time.<br/><br/>Rating: 4.5-5/5 - Willing to drive for half an hour and wait an extra fifteen minutes for the waffles.
Vanessa
This cafe on Chapel Street gets really full on weekends. It’s worth the wait though, as the food is simply delicious and the portions are generous. Great coffee and lovely service.
AnotherAsianAbroad
Came here around 2pm on a Saturday and luckily were seated straight away. Liked my chai as it was nice and hot and the latte was good too. My charred greens were was filling and tasty. Service pretty good and friendly
Jonno
Busy place even came after 2pm, coffee was great, had the Belgian waffles, the macadamia nuts were toasted perfectly, they were at that point where the “toasty” flavour peaks just before being burnt, LOVED them. The wild rice puffs were quite nice also.
Jordan Clarke
I ordered the smashed avocado and whilst the presentation of this dish and the accompanying sides were great, the avocado tasted like it came from a packet, similar to the avocado from subway. My juice also tasted like the fruit had not been washed properly. My partner however, thoroughly enjoyed his meal, he had the eggs Benedict.
Benny Macri
Amazing with even better company. Thank you to the lovely staff for your brilliant service. I had the eggs benny and they tasted great! My partner had smashed avo and he said it was great. I’ll be back!
Gee
Been on my list for a while. It was an evil Sunday, with the rain absolutely bucketing down. About a half hour wait but well worth it. I had the Persian feta potato croquette that was divine! With crispy kale and Parmesan, it was a taste sensation. I added bacon and life was great! All at the table agreed that it was a top notch brunch. Because of the evil weather, ended up ordering Belgian waffles which also hit the spot. I would rate this a 4.5 but due to Zomato deciding that half stars don’t exist anymore, I have to give it a 5, because it doesn’t deserve the 4 - if ya get what I mean?!
Nadia
Excellent coffee, inventive brunch dishes and superlative service. I had the charred greens - broccoli, broccolini, snow peas, beans - with poached eggs, dukkah, capers and labneh. Great flavours and surprisingly filling (I couldn’t finish it!). Recommended.
Olive Sundays
Journeyman has always been a great place to brunch on Chapel street. They have some reigning classics which work well and keep you coming back for more. It’s a narrow space with an industrial feel with exposed brick walls and high exposed ceilings. Super cute. Coffee is great and the meals leave you feeling satisfied.
Mr Foodie
Great cafe to visit along the Windsor end of Chapel street and certainly well worth the wait. My partner and I are frequent visitors and cannot fault the food or service.<br/><br/>Staff are super friendly and attentive and there is always a great atmosphere in the cafe. A variety of options to choose from their extensive menu with a number of vegetarian options as well.<br/><br/>My personal favorites are between the avocado hummus toast with poached eggs, honey candied bacon (so good), snow pea tendrils and dukkah and the smashed avocado with haloumi on the side. Cannot go wrong in selecting one of these delicious dishes, also need to try their ice latte.<br/><br/>Overall, a really good experience all times i have been here.<br/><br/>Looking forward to my next visit soon!<br/>

This place is trendy and vibrant. Serves a mean coffee and a unique version of eggs benedict. Ample seating and efficient service. Worth a visit if you're in the Chapel St area.

I saw this was highly rate via Zomato and a few people at work recommended this place so I decided to try it. After waiting an hour, we finally sat down and ordered the “famous” eggs Benedict and smoked salmon bagel. The smoked salmon bagel consisted of a cold poached egg, stale bagel and tasteless pea purée and cream cheese. It was tastletess and cold. The eggs Benedict had too much saucy, too gooey and unnecessary combinations that did not compliment the meal. I should have stuck to what the most recent reviews here said and not wasted my time and money. We won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend.
JW
Finally visited Journeyman on the hype wave. Coffee was good, as was ambiance, and service.<br/>The menu has changed a tad with the waffles a little more conventional (Belgian versus butterfly pea flower) and no more protein pancakes or sushi bowl.<br/>Ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, and chilli scrambled eggs. Smoked salmon bagel was unfortunately disappointing with far too many competing elements. In the end the dish was a mucky mess with far too many condiment type elements including pea puree, gooey yolk, cream cheese, and a comparable hollandaise type sauce. This rendered the dish a little odd texturally, strangely sweet, and unappealing. I ended up scraping most of the elements off unfortunately, and even then did not finish the meal. The chilli scrambled eggs would benefit from a name change to 'sweet chilli scrambled eggs'. I dislike nothing more than a non chilli 'chilli scrambled egg' dish. This dish was quite sweet and less savoury than it should have been. The charcoal brioche was visually appealing but I'm here for flavours, not purely bells and whistles.<br/>I don't think I'll be back, but do appreciate that Journeyman are working hard on innovation. Balance between innovation and also executing balanced flavours is crucial.
Reality Served
Had the chicken burger and eggs Benedict unfortunately not the Journeyman we remember. Eggs Benedict was cold with too much ketchup and chicken burger was too spicy and just not the same as it use to be. Hope they get back the mojo that made them one of the best brunch spots in town.
Amy Kate
This was the best breakfast I have had in a long time the food was perfect with a large range of different options. The avocados and feta w<br/>Is so simple but paired with puffed black rice ect works so well! AMAZING

Is Melbourne the breakfast capital of the world?<br/><br/>We don’t know but there’s no doubt that Melbourne does breakfast well and there’s plenty of amazing places to choose from when it comes to getting your AM feed on. One destination to put on your breakfast bucket list – if that’s actually a thing, is the Journeyman Café on Chapel Street, Windsor.

My partner and I are avid brunchers and after seeing many reviews and hearing so much about this particular cafe, we had to go for ourselves. We ordered the Journeyman Eggs Benedict, Sushi Bowl and polenta chips. The only dish that stood out and wow-ed us was the Sushi Bowl - as you can see in the photo it was full of fresh ingredients, beautifully presented and tasted as good as it looked. As we’d expected, it was very busy during the peak brunch hour of 11:30am on a weekend, and we tried to be understanding... however were disappointed with the service. Not only did they overlook us and seat someone who had come later than us first, when we pointed this out we were met with a bit of an attitude from the waitress that our table would be prepared. They got my partner’s coffee order wrong twice, and also seemingly “forgot” about the pink OJ I had ordered until I was over halfway through my meal and had to ask someone whether it was on its way. With no apologies or explanation a glass was simply placed onto our table soon after. Would be willing to give this place another go sometime, but not anytime soon.

Came here on Good Friday. Many people so waited 15min. Then waited another 25-30min for the food. As with most brunch place the food looks good but only taste average. Too many flavours trying to combine and turns out unpleasant.

Killer Choc Brownie ...<br/><br/>Yes, it's $6.00 but worth every penny of it.<br/><br/>More indoor seating than outdoor, a bit dark inside ... It seems like the busiest cafe on Chapel St, coffee seems to be the best around 8/10 $4.00 latte.<br/><br/>Will go back for that Brownie. JT-20/04/2018.

Great food, service is efficient not necessarily the warmest but busy enough that it’s understandable. Went on a Sunday it was packed out with a short wait but the food was well worth it.

Journeyman is a classic spot for breakfast in Windsor. The coffee is no doubt one of the best in Melbourne. Queues are often around 15 minutes. Personally I find that given the influx of people the staff is struggling with service time and giving the right level of care to customers which is in a way understandable. Likewise the noise is often high impacting the experience.

This is a good cafe. I had the beans on toast and they were excellent. Really large serve so I couldn’t finish it all - Enjoyed the experience and will return

I’ve been wanting to try journeyman cafe for so long and finally i got to try their famous Breakfast ramen and their Bircher muesli. The ramen soup was so fresh, the bacon was a little bit salty for me however the mushroom and the poached egg was really good!! The bircher muesli is on my top notch as well. The yoghurt and the fruits really compliment each other. I taste coconut too and the presentation is so pretty.. <br/><br/>So far, the place itself is quite a small cafe and always so busy. Its hard to get my hand on the staff but they were very friendly. The ambience was good too. Will be back to try they other menu!<br/><br/>#BHAsFoodDiary<br/>

A tiny busy cafe. Love where it’s located. I ordered the sautéed mushroom, not very special to me. Couldn’t even finish half of it. Quite disappointed, honestly. But I prolly just ordered the wrong dish.

We were in Prahran and noticed Journeyman had a high rating on Zomato so we thought we should give it a try. For food we had journeyman eggs benedict and the Almonds & cornflake crispy chicken burger. We also had a cappuccino. <br/><br/>The eggs benedict were the winner for me today, all the flavour combined together very well, but we think the pork belly was not quite tender enough and needed to be cooked a bit longer. <br/><br/>The chicken burger was okay. We both agreed the sauce in the chicken burger was bit too overpowering which covered up chicken flavour. Not sure will order it again.<br/><br/>On the menu the coffee is from Dukes which had ok flavour.<br/><br/>Overall we give it 3.5. Still nice to give it another go and try something different.

Great quality ingredients and tasty, interesting dishes. The coffee here was nice, and the atmosphere was busy yet organised. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

This place does nice food and is obviously very popular. I have been a few times and always seem to get the communal table, which I hate, but I'm hungry so what am I gonna do. The waffles were fantastic, all the dishes I've tried are nice. Something that really bothers me though is I've seen staff on more than one occasion pat customer's dogs and then get on with serving food without washing their hands. It's really gross. I can't help but stare at them from that moment on hoping they're not bringing my plate over next.

I truly enjoyed my journey to journeyman! Yummy good looking modern cafe food, creative, healthy, nicely plated. The place is crowded and noisy and although the staff work like machines, service was slow and not attentive, so I think they would need to hire a couple of more staff to keep things flowing. Beyond that, I loved the place and the food.

Always Hungry
Was very excited about this place, but it tasted nowhere as good as it looked. Too much happening on the plates and not much flavor.<br/><br/>The avo was supposed to be healthy but was covered in weird fried puffed rice or something.<br/><br/>Too much cucumber on chili eggs.<br/><br/>Not good.

One of my favorite places to brunch, it is always busy but the taste of the food doesn't get comprised and never comes out cold ( unless it is suppose to )

The food is incredible, big portions and so tasty. There are plenty of things to choose from and many healthy and vegeterian options. The waffles were my favourite. Myself and my friend also ordered a Chai latte and Matcha latte which were both delicious. The actual cafe has a such a good vibe to it, I love the vintage style and the staff are so friendly! It’s definitely one of my favourite cafes I have been to!

Visited due to the high ratings and can see why it is. Ordered the eggs Benedict and chilli eggs, flavours were delicious and big portion size. To sum it up I thought it was simple ingredients plated up in a clever way. Loved the creamy sauce on the eggs Benedict. The charcoal bread on the bottom of the chilli eggs tasted unique and added something special to the dish. Overall, nice food but is on the expensive side for brunch, there was a 15 min wait then needed to share a table with 3 other couples. This place has a great atmosphere and simple interior. Sercice was great, waitress who served us was friendly.

Great place and great food! It is rarely that both my husband and I like every single component served on the plate but that was our conclusion with the food here. I ordered the chilli scrambled eggs with extra mushroom and chorizo, whereas my husband ordered the benedict. Food was served quickly too! Definitely will come again!
