Review Tusk Cafe Bar - Windsor

Chris Vesty
Tusk Cafe Bar is absolutely top notch when it comes to Food Coffee and Cocktails! The staff are super friendly and do a amazing job considering how busy it can get at times, the inside and outside seating is quite exceptional with overhead heaters fitted outside it is even comfortable on the coldest of days! I highly recommend Tusk Cafe Bar if you are on Chappelle St.

Forgotten my condiment twice by 2 different people, one of them being the owner/manager. Once at the beginning, prior to food coming and another, when food arrived, we sat there waiting for 15 minutes post food arrival as we didn't want to start without it. Nothing. Everything was by now cold. We gave up. Food was okay, nothing fancy but overpriced and quite basic for breakfast. Received a tiny one slice of bread. Mimosa lacked the champs. In comparison to a lot of breakfast and brunch places out there with the same cost, Tusk has room for improvement. We will return once these improvements have taken place.

Just got a takeaway coffee, but should have sat on the table to have some food because atmosphere in this restaurant is really good! Next time will doz

We ordered a waffle on their regular menu. Was showed $14 and charged $18.5 When we asked, the staffs said there’s no way it’s $14. They were silenced when I showed them the regular menu. But guess what, instead of studying what’s wrong in their menu, they found me a “special breakfast menu” with a $18.5 waffle on it. Put aside why they have a more expensive choice in breakfast menu, I did the order by “pointing at the regular menu”. $4.5 is not a big deal for both parties and we can afford to pay for your mistake if what we got was really the $18.5 one. But instead of receiving an “annoyed and triumphant self-justified face”, I think we deserve at least a light-tone apologize admitting you made a mistake. So I believe justifiably you do deserve a 1-star review. Right?

Had a barra fillet main and a peroni on a weekday lunch. The place was busy - but the staff member was super friendly. Loved my meal!

Food was good, nice little cafe. Coffee was a little watery but overall not bad.

I went here last Saturday with friends; it was pretty quiet and they had a lot of staff on which was good. However, the service was abysmal. Absolutely no urgency and had to prompt for a follow up on a simple drink order (it originally arrived incorrect) and then ask them if we could order food. It is really sad when businesses can't get out of their own way to make money. The 2nd star is for the location only.

To me, a melbourne boy living in sydney, Tusk is a melbourne institution that I return to on every visit home. The food and coffee are always spot on, and the waitresses are the best. Always there to meet your needs with a smile on their faces. The owner oversees his business morning till night assuring that the consistency he values is always on display in all areas of this magnificent chapel st cafe. Tusk has it's own style that I haven't seen anywhere else.

Fabulous start to a day in Prahran. Our late breakfast was perfect, staff friendly and attentive. Loved the Eggs Benedict and great coffee. What’s not to love about people watching of food and coffee in a fabulous location!

Best Brunch spot, great music, amazing food & good vibes. The service staff were really lovely and accomodating! Highly recommend!

Ordered a flat white and a tusk breakfast. The service was poor, the flat white was cold, the scrambled eggs were rubbery and the mushrooms were also cold. Won't be going back
Nick Molvalis
Awesome place, great food, excellent service. I would recommend anyone to go there for a feed...

The best possible start to the day. Good food, great coffee and wonderful service.

Great place. I popped in with my 10 year old daughter for a bite to eat and was very impressed. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food and coffe were of a high standard. Will definitely be going there again.

Had a cool spot under the tree. My burger was great. My partner had lamb salad, great too. Drinks and service was great. Done

Thoroughly enjoyed the grazing plate last night with a girlfriend who’s over from perth - it was amazing. The general manager is one of the most friendly and welcoming people I’ve come across. Please bring back the summer berry porridge is my mums absolute favorite when she comes over from perth.
Maree Robinson
Amazing food (I had the beef burger) and amazing service
Vilma Filippin
Reasonable food at a reasonable price but I was very disappointed in the cleanliness of the WC, as this is my gauge of how clean and attentive a place is to their clients.
Jordan
Amazing food. Probably the best corn fritters meal I’ve ever ordered. It was just perfect and so delicious!

I tasted the most flavourful coffee at Tusk Cafe Bar in Windsor! Would definitely visit again. If you are from Windsor, You wouldn't want to miss their coffee!

Tusk Cafe Bar serves the best wood fired pizza in Windsor! Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed my meals at Tusk Cafe Bar in Windsor! They had a great menu and can definitely recommend.

Had a coffee here in the Melbourne sunshine.

I really enjoyed the outdoor area, that was shaded by a large tree

DRINKS
Iced Latte with Almond Milk: A good coffee, but not my favourite

The service was friendly & quick

We were greeted and told to take a seat and that we would be brought menus. 20 mins later no one had come to us with a menu or asked to take a drinks order.

Got up and left and will never come back.
Anna Mac
Average breakfast to be honest. Had the crispy corn cakes which were tough, little overcooked and tasteless and the bacon was hugely underdone which I could not eat. We also couldn’t have any tea as apparently the coffee machine wasn’t making hot water??
Staff whilst nice enough were not attentive and didn’t even ask why I left half of my breakfast.
Would not return seeing there are so many other great options around.

A Chapel Street stalwart, this place has impressively withstood the test of time. The plethora of new cafes in Windsor has now lifted the gastronomic game of this previously sleepy enclave, and Tusk no longer seems to be the jewel in the crown it once was. It's still sweet, though service is consistently confused. Both times my friend and I have dined there recently our order has been forgotten. The dishes are die hard cafe favourites, and the drinks are absolutely fine. Dining on the corner under the leafy trees has surely got to be one of simplest pleasures in the area.
CoffeeLoverPickyEater (NotAFoodie)
The coffee was very good the first time I tried so I decided to return. The second time was a miss.

This place is great if you are after the Old school big Breakfast and not the fancy stuff other brunch places are doing these days. Fills you up and taste great. Coffee is lovely too:)

There are loads of places to eat and drink along busy Chapel Street, but Tusk has a cool corner location with a nice outdoor area to dine in good weather. It's a great spot to sit back and enjoy the passing parade with a drink or two and something to nibble on.

It's certainly charming, and has an eclectic style about it; with a relaxed atmosphere that can be missing in some of the nearby establishments. Service is really friendly, and the place is usually quite busy with locals or people looking for some respite from shopping this busy strip.

The food menu is also eclectic, with no real theme. We recently had a grazing plate which was a tasty hodge podge of ingredients that didn't necessarily make sense, but was enjoyable nonetheless. The pizzas are also yummy, and they make a great cocktail.

Tusk lacks the airs and graces of nearby venues, but it has a lot of character and for that reason, still manages to be constantly busy from brunch through to dinner.

Tusk is located on Chapel Street in Windsor. It’s a busy cafe with a large seating area outside, perfect for sunny days & catch ups as well as seating inside.

Open from early morning until 3am, it’s a favourite coffee stop for me & with free wifi it’s handy to get some work done.

The coffee is excellent and I love the atmosphere. It’s relaxed & kind of hectic at times, very popular with travellers & I think that’s why I like it. The staff are fun and friendly & I visit regularly for coffee or a wine.
Eating Sushi
Food (5/10): average menu with below average food.
* Scandinavian stack (5/10): The potato fritters were oily and not served fresh. The eggs were also not poached well and grilled asparagus were oily and soggy. With such a basic menu, I would have expected more from a Chapel St brunch especially with all of the other competition.
* Soy Chai latte (2/10): chai here is horrible. They do not use bonsoy barista grade milk and still charge a premium for it.

Ambience (7/10): cool casual vibe with a bigger seating area outside than in. Nice place to bring your dog and catch up with friends

Verdict: with many other better brunch around the vicinity, I won’t be returning here again.
KITCHFIT
Just the right place for the area...

I love this place, as it’s not that “fancy” cafe, nor is it the “boring” cafe. This place sits right in the middle. Friendly, fun, outdoor seating with warm rugs and heaters and people working, smiley, eating and drinking. A place for all.

Today I only had a smoothie which was a great size and great value for money.

An easy, chilled cafe! Love it!
Two Sheds
Quick coffee stop on a glorious sunny day. The cafe was buzzing with a pretty prosperous looking bunch in residence. I got a medium long black to go and scarpered. The coffee was excellent. It hit the spot beautifully.. The cafe gets extra marks for not treating me like a leper given I was in gardening clothes (I was helping a friend our round the corner) and was therefore looking rather out of place. Three different servers were utterly charming to me and I salute them.
Chefosaurus
Tusk has been around for many years. As the faces of Chapel St change Tusk remains. A really flavorful brunch of smashed avocado with Persian feta and dukkah coat poached egg. Great brunch, great coffee and great service. Three reasons why you are still around!

As I started to eat a heap of smoke came in through the open café door. I asked the waitress why they had tables nearby outside where people could smoke - she gave me a vague excuse. Within a minute a very unkempt & belligerent Manager came rushing over to me & started abusing me and swearing at me. He misquoted the Smoking Laws. I corrected him and advised him that he was in breach of the Smoking Laws; he told me that he didn't need ALL THE PROBLEMS (!?) he was getting from customers and we could all go and spend our money elsewhere! Needless to say, I won't be going there again! One star for the food etc. No stars for courtesy, cleanliness, consideration or caring for the well-being of your customers!
@foodtom
I had a catch up with my mates at Tusk two weeks ago and my first visit at Tusk.
The service was a bit slow but it was okay as it was not peak time which = less staff on.
We finally got our food and I had the mussels, some of the clams were empty and my stomach felt uneasy after and was not sure if it was from the mussels.
The fries with the burger was incredibly salty, too much salt was added.
But the bruschetta was a nice touch and it could not go wrong.
I might be back again to give food a go again.

BEST GOD DAM COFFEE ON THE STREET !! & the puppies 🐶 sooo cute it’s A all round good place to kick back and take in the Vibe witch is Chaple From the krew @ sash
The Go Go Mumma
Looking for coffees after dinner, we stumbled on what seemed to be the only “Cafe” style spot. The chai latte was more milky than chai, and the white chocolate cheese cake was so so, disappointingly. However the star was the warm chocolate cake!

I’ll return to taste test the rest of their savoury menu.
Julian
Awesome coffee and lovely venue. Nice and warm in winter too. I haven’t tried the food but I’ve heard it’s pretty decent. I will definitely add this place to my list of favorites to visit again.
Amelia South Yarra
One of my favourite local places. My partner and I come here most weekends for brunch. Staff have always been friendly, though sometimes seem busy looking after everyone. Coffee is good and the BLATs are delicious.
The vibe is grunge chic, with some pretty interesting hip hop type music when we've been in the mornings. Great for people watching and to get a feel for the area.
MG
Worst service ever!
1. First of all after sitting down for 10 minutes, I had to grab the food menu because no one was looking after us

2. We ordered our food, and waited 40 minutes just to find out that apparently they didn’t put the order in the system - therefore have been waiting for nothing!

3. And when I said it’s ok we’ll just leave, they didn’t even feel bad for letting us wait that long or offer any compensation

I’ve heard your food is great but maybe do an internal review of your current process on how you serve your customers
Marina Ung
I come here sometimes before or after work for drinks. Great place to chill on the busy street of Chapel in Windsor! The waiters are all very friendly and always up for a good laugh!
Stephanie Papazois
Always curious to try this place every time I drive down chapel street. Always catches my attention, as it’s always busy and has plenty of seating available outside. We came here for a late brunch after having a bad experience at another cafe nearby. And were seated on a big table inside very promptly. Service was impeccable, and had a great atmosphere inside, very warm on a cold day. We ordered from the breakfast menu. Meals came out quickly and were very tasty and nicely presented. The menu is quite big so want to come back again and try a few other dishes.
Dine And Dash
Nice little restaurant in Chapel Street. Great location for this joint. I’m a regular here and only come here for this platter! (See photo). Definitely has a very young and hipster vibe - you can sit inside and outside which is nice.Waiters and waitresses definitely show good customer service.

I ordered the grazing plate for two - it was an absolute 10 out of 10! It has salami, prosciutto, marinated lamb, Kalamata olives, saganaki cheese, feta, chargrilled vegetables, Turkish bread, dips, and chorizo sausage. It was just a perfect combination together..

Overall, I do enjoy my experience here, the menu isn’t too expensive but definitely on the more expensive side. I will be back soon!

Found this just walking past. Great friendly atmosphere and service. Coffee was good. Had apple crumb. Large serving good to share. Will be back to try the menus next time.

I ate the haloumi starter that tusk offers. It was really tasty, potentially too salty for some people. Sat outside in the sun. There’s two areas, a smokers where you can’t order food, or a non smokers where food is available. It’s quite a hip busy spot so factor that in to your wait for food.

Everything is good. But guys, for the love of everybody’s earbuds, turn the hip hop down on a Sunday afternoon with a half empty cafe.
Coffee great, aesthetics great, menu great. But then the music down a notch...this is not a matinee on St Kilda beach...
Piyarat Pinthong
You guys made us having a great day on 42 degrees and we were having a funny conversation before some friends gonna go back to their country. Thank you.
Natasha Taylor
Service is friendly, food is great, and it's really nice to be able to sit under their giant tree and read. It's everything a café should be!
Jamie Paulson
The worst experience on Chapel Street.

Burger was over-cooked (completely dry), bun was hard and got the order wrong.

Massive attitude from the staff too.

I have eaten at a number of cafes/restaurants along Chapel St but this was undoubtedly the worst.

Avoid at all costs.
CHRISTINE
Very chill and friendly joint on the heart of chapel street. Their ice chocolates are amazing!!!! Must get on a hot sunny day!

Today we ordered:
- soft shell crab burger with Asian slaw ($19.8)
- tiger prawn, mussel and butter fish linguine ($27.00)
- ice chocolate ($6.50)
- ice coffee ($6.50)

The soft shell crab burger was really good! The aioli sauce complemented the crab very well. The burger is also served with shoe string fries which are just standard fries you get everywhere else.

The pasta was very big in portion. It had quite a lot of seafood but my friend found the parsley too overpowering.

The ice chocolate was amazing! Would definitely recommend.

Overall, Tusk gives off really good vibes and has a big area for outdoor seating so is perfect for summer. The food and drinks are also pretty good.

Rating: 3.5/5

Positioned perfectly on a t -section of Chapel Street this place has a really green, shaded and attractive outdoor area or a quite crowded interior to choose from. Since it was a just a tad too cool outside we took a table up close to the bar. Ordered some coffee and was surprised with how good it was. Seriously the best coffee I've had this year. Goes to show you that all these so called dedicated coffee shops serving single origin and weighing shots to the gram can mean nothing. Big shout out to the youngish barista here.

Anyway the menu is just typical Mediterranean/Australian brunch gear but again I was surprised at how good it was. Generous serves, flavours bang on and we didn't wait terribly long at all.

The funny thing about this place is the staff. They all seem to have something going on between each other like some really hot gossip. This should be expected though. People come to eat, drink and talk a lot of gossip in Windsor - it's practically a sport in this part of Melbourne. Another quirk about the inside being so tight is just the random stuff that a business needs stacked everywhere. Truckloads of Bonsoy stashed between windows and tables, a small printer plugged in on the floor of the dining area - if you have small curious kids keep a watch on them.

I was so excited to try the crab burger. When I got it, it looked pretty boring...the overall taste wasn't bad. But when I bit into a piece of shell it turned me off, I couldn't even chew it. Thought they would of taken the shell off, no? 🙄

I was at tusk the other week and as I was ordering a drink, I overheard (who I later learnt was the manager) saying to the guy making my drink a very grossly, inappropriate and uncalled for comment about my friend that was with me. Will never return to such a pathetic establishment. Boys will be boys, but these 'boys' represent your venue.
Jessica Cook
Out door area is great, but unimaginative food, could use some work to keep up with the competition in the area, makes a good coffee though and great place in Summer.
Suzie Scribbles
Food: I opted for the crispy corn cakes, while my other half went for his usual eggs and bacon. While the food was nice - I did enjoy the flavour of the corn cakes, but my eggs were over poached and the entire dish was just a little dry. The bacon was nice, and my other half enjoyed his scrambled eggs although not the best. Not massive issues, but enough for me not to go back.

Atmosphere/Service: There's no denying it's a lovely venue. Cosy inside and with a perfect pavement area for when it was sunny. Unfortunately the service was blunt, almost to the point of being rude and fairly chaotic. The waitress walked around with my coffee for several minutes before finally bringing it to our table.

Would I recommend it: Probably not, while it's not bad there's far far better places in the local area where you will get top notch food and service.
Captain Tofu 💪🌱☘️🍀
Not the greatest food on offer but you get a lot of it for what you pay. Great value for my money.

The outdoor food area was a bit annoying with the smokers but I’m assuming with the new laws in place that should no longer be an issue.

It’s a great place to have lunch or breakfast in the sun
Hemi Giannis
What a glorious sunny morning where else would you like to be but on chapel street sipping on a cappuccino smoker friendly and hats off to the barrista smooth creamy coffee service excellent music just hitting that right morning groove. Thanks guys might just order another one. Youll all love this place.
Good Food Good Mood
I love dinner at Tusk sitting outside on a balmy evening (they are coming just hang on) people watching on buzzing chapel st. The salads are absolutely delicious and actually filling but there's plenty of variety on the menu if you aren't feeling so healthy, a really huge range of options from pizza to burgers to all the pub style classics so something for everyone. For me I can't go past the lamb salad for a tasty guilt free meal
James Grist
Been around forever, a staple on Chapel st with a great outdoor area. Have been quite a few times mostly out of habit - food nothing special but ticks the box if your after easy classics, burgers, wedges etc. Breakfast has been hit & miss, service has been pretty consistent every time I've gone & they do a decent coffee.
Louise Booth
Had the Tusk burger and my friends ordered the Parma. We also had the sharing platter with meat cheese and bread. All of the food was amazing. Very simple but very tasty and done very well. The girl serving us (The English girl) was very nice and chatty. Super friendly place with a nice setting
Catherine Harris
The service was service, food delicious, great atmosphere, it was not too crowded and they have bonsoy for coffee. Very happy breakfast experience.
Madie Moore
Always great food, service is always on point and the atmosphere is always lively with a side of chill. Regularly come here with friends and would recommend for both brunch and dinner.
Dean Pahek
Been here on many occasions, have never had a unsatisfactory experience and do like sitting outside on a nice day/evening enjoying the surroundings. Food is good, nothing out of this world and coffee is always decent. Service is always great here also, they are very friendly. Tusk won't be going anywhere soon.
LJ
Going there for a drink could be a different vibe. I understand this place is very busys o some service slips but theres plenty of cafes around to chose from. Some of the staff is very friendly which is the most important thing i think in hospitality but others in the staff almost runs away from you when you need something- waited over an hour for breakfast and it was wrong. I've given this place a few attempts and won't go back.
Mark Strudwick
Been 3 times. First time, everything was good. Food, coffee and service were 8/10.
Went for late breakfast today. Oh dear. No service, coffee took forever and was below average.
Made the stupid mistake of returning for lunch as I was still working in the area. Took 40 minutes to be served a basic food item (scrambled egg and bacon). Coffee was cold and bitter. Service paralleled coffee - cold, disinterested and bitter.
Will not be returning when I'm next working in this area.
Too many average cafes in the area to bother with anything below that standard.
Am
Looking for above average coffee and breakfast in Prahran area for next work trip. Free wifi would also be good. (Tusk offered but didn't deliver on that either)
Rachel
So if it wasn't for the drugged up irish man who was apparently the manager it would have been great....seriously need to reconsider their staff what a joke

Sarah Liistro
I adore it here.
Food is always amazing, service is reliability stupendous and the vibe is perpetually welcoming. And who doesn't love a blankie when the weather turns feral???
Branch Bacardi
Smiling, friendly service with a lovely and lively outdoor dining area on a Chapel street corner. Food and coffee is good but I will visit again mainly for the friendly atmosphere and good prices.
BonBonV
Tusk has friendly efficient service, a lively, fun atmosphere and great coffee. There's a wide range of yummy items to choose from the menu. It's one of the least expensive cafes in Chapel Street. Usually the food is fine but once in a while not great. Yesterday I had the corn fritters with avocado, poached eggs and bacon and the fritters were very well done - almost burnt and my eggs were luke warm. We were sitting outside on a chilly day with the throws they provide tucked around us and of course our food got cold fairly quickly. So eat fast or indoors on a cold day! The bill for two cooked breakfasts and four coffees came to $42 which is great value in Chapel street. I'll be back despite the fritters, as it's usually really good. A hint Tusk, perhaps heat the plates up on cold days.
Lightworker Trinh
My regular weekly saganaki fix after training at NICA. Love that they open late and the guys there are great. I have to try their other vegetarian dishes one day lol
Kirby May
Great hearty meals, especially if you haven't eaten anything. Reasonably priced and good quality food. Staff are friendly enough, however our waitress muddled up our first order and we did have to wait a while for the second meal to come out. Overall, Chapel St vibes and atmosphere.
Jess
I had been here in the past and loved it however, today we went to Tusk and I ordered the mushroom and spinach brioche breakfast. The serving was small, the egg was overcooked and the mushrooms had a texture like they'd been pre cooked.
The service was also very average. I would try many other places on Chapel st before returning to Tusk
Samantha Todd
I was so disappointed. It's a beautiful setting but they lost our orders TWICE and we ended up waiting 1.5 hours for breakfast to arrive!! I tried to be understanding but the staff were hardly even apologetic/concerned let alone that polite. I really wanted to like this place but I can't. With competition everywhere, there is no way I'd go back.
Clarissa Whitehead
The food at Tusk is quite standard and nothing special. However, with outdoor seating galore, it's a good choice for a quick bite to eat, or a share plate or two, on a nice sunny day.
Last time I visited was with my father and his pet dogs. A few wedges to share and a lot of comfy space for the dogs beside the table made this place a good choice for a summer afternoon feed.
Hannah Petera
Food took well over 45min to come to the table.
Service was very avaerage and so was the food very tasteless. Really dissapointing considering it looked like a popular location for brunch.
Impress Me
Tusk has become a regular late night drink place for us. Generally great staff and good drinks. The best outside eating drinking area on chapel. Have had basic chips and wedges here and friends have had dessert which they loved.
Mundigoana
Tusk was serving dog food for lunch today. Stay away. This was sold as risotto. Where is the rice? Totally inedible and they did not even care about feedback.
Missdelish
Ivory vs ebony. Tusk is a stalwart of the Windsor end of Chapel St, with a great little outdoor seating area as well as the tiny indoor space. A friend and l wandered up for a lazy Sunday brunch, and landed the last outside table at 10.45am.

The menu is attractive and hits the standard brunch notes but with interesting points of difference. My summer porridge ($13.50) was one of the healthier choices, made with quinoa, grains, poached cherries, yogurt and flaked almonds. It was a pearler of a plate - both filling and delicious.

The elephant in the room is the coffee. Bitter and burnt was what my friend's strong brew came out as. She's a knowledgeable ex- barista from a high end chain of cafes, so l trust her judgement on that. Pity because everything else was good - but not good enough in coffee mad Melbourne.
MalvernCustomer
Wait staff were lovely and welcoming. The good stops there. I was warned by the filthy state of the menus, and wonky table top, but despite this, proceeded to order something to eat.

The corn fritters were inedible, dry and over fried (deep fried??).

Could not get out of there fast enough. Be warned, might be good in the late evening for a drink if you don't mind sitting amongst dirty surroundings, but there are a lot of other options nearby to try. Avoid!!
Homerj
We were greeted and seated by very friendly staff. We ordered simple poached eggs on wholemeal toast which were nicely poached
We also ordered flat whites which arrived ice cold so we sent them straight back 😒
The place could do with a "face lift" a little concerning that the meals are placed on a counter when ready which is right next to a line of people wanting to pay - luckily for us our food was served quickly so it missed one of the other guests coughing over it !
HeraldSun Reviews
The burgers were filling and had good flavour, cutlets were okay, the fries were amazing. The standout I recommend to everybody and anybody is the exceptional terrific funny entertaining and helpful waiter outside. Irish accent, knew the menu with depth and helped us order to accommodate our needs. Great sense of humour and made the experience 10x better than it would've been. Definitely recommend.
The Epicurean
Good vibe. Hipster waiting staff.
My only complaint is the fairly limited and not very exciting menu.
The truffle risotto was tasty and deliciously creamy.
Jar-Fed
Yum the breakfast menu is delicious, so many great options and the food was all top quality down to the freshly made hash browns! the service was great and on cold days they even supply a blakey!
Sugar_licks
Popped in to do some work and grab a quick brekky, this cafe is quirky, run by a group of fabulous chicks who are friendly warm and efficient, just ordered some toast with avo and marmalade jam - coffee was good, food was great and the atmosphere with cool tunes playing and staff having a good time with customers and each other made this a great spot - highly recommend

The waitress was really helpful and lovely! Esp love the fact that they do split bills which a lot of places don't.
Initially was gonna order the salmon breakfast(forgot what they actually call it) but then a friend was ordering this so opted for the tusk breakfast which had the chorizo sausages and they were delicious! Right amount of kick in there!
The latte was alright.
Would definitely recommend for brunch.

The only downside is that there is only one toilet and is located a store away from the cafe so you have to queue up for it.
Georgetaylorpersonal
This was the worst meal I have ever had on Chapel Street. There was a hair in my (burnt) food. Plus food came with attitude. I looked them up and they have had prior health department infringements. Avoid at all costs!
Bhawna Gi
What a fun experience at having lunch. The staff was all charged up and funny and entertaining.. And the food was goood. The risotto especially was delicious and cheesy.. Due to its corner location, the ambience outside is pretty amazing.. Must ho and if you are lucky, you'll be served by the same entertainers..
Christina
One of my fav chapel st restaurants. I always order the Green eggs for bfast. Usually always busy so hard to get a table outside if the weather is good. Dinner menu is great too.

The breakfast was a good size, if you are hungry head here
Hash brown was a little cold in the middle
The coffee was good and the prices were less than the other around

Walked by here more times than I can remember and every time it's buzzing. Today I decided to actually stop and eat lunch and I am so glad I did! We ordered the special lentil soup (with bread on the side) and english breakfast tea for two. Prices are extremely reasonable, the soup being $10 each. It was a delicious, hearty meal with a generous soft fluffy piece of fresh bread and cheese on the side. It was gone in a flash! Service was prompt and friendly and we sat outside, there being a heater and blankets for comfort. I would definitely go back again.

Service was okay, food was pretty basic for chapel street. Took a while for the waitress to take our order then she forgot most of the extra / changes that we asked for. Much nicer places round the area with a better variety of food. Wouldn't go back unless I had to.

Walked past this place 1000 times and finally went in late last week as was one of only places open. Dainty place with a waiter who was full of personality. They even provide you with a blanket if outside and is a cold night. Food didn't take too long....maybe because it wasn't full but still. Bruschetta wasn't the easiest thing to eat but tastes good as did the meatballs which were nice and moist. The star of the show was the pumpkin pizza though which if I came back I would order again and order another pizza for a starter aswell.

Excellent service with really good food. Never dissapointed with this place because they will always make room no matter what. If you're looking for a good feed at a good price with great service in a nice setting then I'd recommend Tusk.

Unfortunately the cappuccino was a little burnt. The Scandinavian stack was lovely but needed some lemon and dill to kick the dish over scoring a goal. Such a little thing but it would make it that kickass dish that it already is so close to being.

As for the Southern breakfast... I beg any of you who go to Tusk and not yet given this a go, to please do so. That kickass dish we're talking about, is this dish. It was almost 2 for two. If it weren't for the burnt coffee and that need for lemon, well we would be sailing high in the land of a perfect score.

For families whilst there is not a kids menu, there is a high chair, colour in books and pencils. Oh and a singing chef.

Came for breaky: Extremely well executed cooking! Poached eggs cooked perfectly. My wife's southern style breakfast was amazing. My dish (Scandinavian breakfast) was executed extremely well. Very good service and family friendly.

If there are a couple of criticisms, they would be:
- coffee needs a bit of work
- my Scandinavian breakfast was missing a little acidity which would have lifted the dish quite a bit, and is the reason I can't rate this a 4.5 (yet). Add a decent lemon tang to the hollandaise and this dish would be something to come back to, time and time again!

This cafe is in a great location and has a relaxing outdoor seating area perfect for brunch or even dinner! I had the corn fritters for brunch which were pretty tasty. The waitress who was serving us must have been having an off day because she wasn't very friendly. I've only been here once so may have been a one off! Not the most amazing brunch I've ever had, but not bad either, would try for dinner too.

The best thing is the location. Right on chapel street, the large outdoor sitting area is the perfect spot for people watching. Fantastic for lovers of dogs. Breakfasts are average, coffee ok. Nothing really to remember.

Oh dear, it should be so great here. Wonderful, tree-y, quirky fit-out, lots of active-wearing South-siders, fluffy dogs with friendly owners. But its not. The likable service team seems distracted by each other (romance? hangovers?) and unable to keep the coffee and food flowing. The food is not great. It might have cut it 15 years ago when rocket/arugula was a thing. But they really need to lift their game to compete. Its not delicious at all. However, if you are a smoker, you will feel welcome. The cafe is mostly outdoors under a gorgeous tree and the icy breeze (knee rugs provided) whips away the smoke. Enjoy!

Although I have not eaten here, I'm very happy with the coffee!! so much so that i will return here to try the food :) I hope it's as good, comments below aren't so convincing...

LOVE LOVE LOVE this venue highly recommended !
You can get a decent cocktail and a meal late and the atmosphere is amazing. The staff are extremely talented from the kitchen to the bar to the wait staff. All of you are rocking it- perfection !

Love this place.
As a Chapel St local, we always return to Tusk. Nice spot - outdoor seating surrounded by trees and greenery. Wait staff always friendly and playful. Good brekky and lunch menu, classics with a few interesting options. Love the corn cakes with bacon. Coffee usually good. Will return!

Pros:
-Nice food
Cons:
- Difficult to get a table
- Seated at table where staff were constantly reaching over my head to get things
- Black out resulting in no coffee, music, fans and smoke everywhere
- 10 minute wait before anyone even took our order
- 20 min wait to get water on the table
- 45 min wait for food (even though they cook with gas), and no updates on food during entire wait
- Numerous people having to go to counter to get cutlery and glasses themselves which should have already been at their table.

Poor service skills although they were friendly, coffee was ok, it took an hour for the food to arrive and sadly they completely forgot one of the dishes and mixed up another. Food was not really tasty and somewhat bland. Sorry I can't really recommend this place and we probably won't be back
Vicky
Got here for lunch with friends. The coffee was horrible - watery and cold, the food mediocre. I would not recommend this place. Not sure why it has good ratings..

By far the worst experience iv had in a long time. I dont understand how a place like this can survive in chapel st when there are SO many better options.
Took us over 20 mins just to catch the waiters attention to order.
Then, an additional 25 minute wait for 3 juices/smoothies and 3 coffees, one of which never made it to our table.
The water glasses were dirty and that was a feat in itself to get water in the first place.
Worst tasting smoothie iv ever tried to consume.
Walk past and don't look back.

Lovely service & wine list ... Good atmosphere for drinks... We didn't try foods but they looked really good on other tables!

Great place for brekky and lunch. Had the veggie burger, watermelon+strawberry juice and the most amazing cheesecake ever! Very nice staff as well.

Simple, quality, accommodating, delicious, satisfying, consistent and great service. Love that they have such long trading hours also, can go for my morning coffee and breakfast or a night cap. Tusk is always a good idea!

This is a great place if you want to sit outside and bask in the sunshine yet if you then want to eat and have 600 smokers around you its not the place. Service is usually by foreign students who are pleasant enough. Coffee was good, omellete with chorizo ok but the avo toast was uncuttable and a bit too well done. The music can get super loud so stay away from the speakers if you want to have a conversation!!
MrsChapel
Tusk is ok. The outdoor seating is good. The food is ordinary. The breakfast is ordinary. The staff are ordinary. The drinks are ordinary. It's not bad but it's nothing special
Tina
These guys provide friendly service and great coffee.. They even have blankets for when it is cold. Bonus!
Eggs benedict with avo and fetta smash delish. Good work guys.

I love this place, it has a great vibe!
The coffee, juices and smoothies are amazing (yes, I've been a couple times...),
the menu offers a good range of different types of food for a reasonabel price, which always comes carefully prepared. My favourite is the grazing plate for two. Take your lover or friend, and relax over this delicious dish and a nice drink while watching people passing by (always fun on chapel!). Mmmm
