Marmara Restaurant serves the best Turkish food in Melbourne! The staff are very friendly and provide perfect service, even when the restaurant is full you never wait long for your meal. Great location on Chapel and trendy atmosphere inside Marmara ensure a great night out and delicious Turkish meal! Highly recommended!
Over the last 18 months , everytime we go to chapel street , we make sure we have dinner at Marmara . It came highly recommended to us and has never let us down . Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere . Wonderful choice of wines and beers . The service is so fast and always with a good heart . Last night they heard us raise a glass to celebrate my son's birthday , when we finished our meal , plates of delicious sweets with a candle were brought to our table on the house . Not once has this restaurant let us down . I can't recommend Marmara highly enough .
Finally I have found a world class turkish restaurant in Melbourne. Flavors serving and price make for a memorable dining room xperience. I will be back!!
Came here for dinner last night and absolutely loved it. We had the banquet and was blown away by the quality and quantity. Our waiter (Ben) was really attentive and made some great drink recommendations.
We will definity be returning again soon
Honest and very nice tasting, Turkish food.
First of all, I absolutely love the decor of the place, as it truly has an authentic Turkish vibe about it.
It also has some really nice stylised music to go along with the theme of the establishment, which is what you want in a restaurant that serves food from a different culture.
The service wad excellent with efficiency and extremely friendly too.
Now when it comes to dining out, this is extremely important wheand for that I say thank you to all the staff on hand last night.
The food was quite delicious and definitely no complaints from our experience of all the dishes we tried.
I would most definitely return and I am looking forward to coming back in the near future.
If you are around the area, I suggest you do try Marmara.
Thanks again.
The food and service was excellent. They were more than happy to accommodate a ceoliac menu. Highly recommend
Absolutely awsome. Probably can say the best turkish restaurant by far. Freindly staff
The food is to die for. Amazing
Highly recommended. Great pricing to.
Loving the menu, so much to choose from and so many different things to try, wait staff are friendly and attentive and meals are full of flavour, try the cutlets its unique and the homemade dips are mouth-watering which makes me feel five star to Marmara
Excellent food, second to none service. This place truly deserves the 5 star reviews they’ve received to date.
Amazing food. Went out for my 1st year Anniversary and had Fantastic service. Food was a 10/10 would highly recommed this place
Exceptionally well prepared and presented food, all the meats were cooked to perfection, great service and atmosphere, will definitely return soon!!!😀😀😀
Loved it, cozy little place.. had the banquet and meals got tastier and tastier...
Highly recommended
Thank you for everything guys.we booked for Mother's Day lunch and everything's was perfect. You guys are amazing. Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. Food service everything was amazing will defiantly be back.
My hubby took me for my birthday,it was our first time visit and we loved the taste of the foods I'll recommend here for everyone definitely...
The quality of the food was great, and the ingredients were very fresh and the flavours were rich. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was cute, with LCD tvs made to look like windows looking into Turkey. The staff were friendly and informative as well.
Wow, absolutely amazing food and service. My mind is blown from the delicious food. Everything was cooked to perfection. The meat was so tender, the seafood was cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend eating here. The food was so good I even ordered take away for my lunch tomorrow.
It’s SO hard to find places that do delivery food as good as dine-in. Marmara one of the exceptions. I was craving hummus and bread and a meat wrap from watching those pesky YouTube videos and my god am I impressed. The hummus is 100% comparable to the kind you’d find in a jerusalem market (I’ve been so yes I’m not exaggerating) and the Turkish bread was beautifully hot when it arrived. The chicken wrap was tangy and hearty but not sickening; it was crispy and warm on the outside but a little bit too soggy at the bottom due to the sauce.
Highly recommend delivery or dine-in. It does not disappoint.
Marmara is a stalwart on Chapel Street with some customers we met being patrons for many years. Very Turkish setting and quiet. Good for a large group or just two.Interesting selection of food. We had the "Iman Fainted", baby eggplant lightly pan seared, then oven baked with a covering of diced tomato, capsicum & garlic. A fresh garden salad and bulgur rice at the side. We then had the traditional beef dumplings( manti); more akin to a Turkish version of gnocchi. We shared both dishes; the dumplings for just one person would have been too much. The dish reminded us of manti we had in small Turkish villages many years ago. The wine list has an interesting mix of Turkish, Greek, French, Italian and Australian. Reasonably priced and you can BYO for $10 per bottle. Strongly recommend.
Amazing food for great value. Highlight of the night has to go to the feta and spinach spring rolls- absolutely amazing! Also ordered the meat platter which had an array of perfectly cooked meats. Highly recommend
First things first, great service!! We tried this place on the 50% fork discount and we left really satisfied. The Turkish bread was super fresh and our lamb kebab and seafood claypots were flavoursome. We did find the spinach and feta pide and ricotta salad to be a little bland but otherwise though it was a delightful meal!

I'd been wanting to try this place out for ages, and I found myself wandering around Windsor one balmy summer evening. I snaffled a table out the front with the dog, the perfect position to enjoy the Chapel Street parade. There was a steady stream of customers coming and going, and it wasn't hard to see why. The food is taken very seriously here, and is incredibly authentic. The dolma were fresh and zesty, zinging with flavour. I was torn between the pide or the manti for a main, and ended up going with the manti, traditional Turkish dumplings. The massive bowl of dumplings that were placed in front of me assured me I'd made the right choice. With sauce layered over the top of carb-covered ground beef, I was in absolute heaven. When I couldn't eat the entire dish, the staff graciously sent me home with the remainder in a bowl. Thank you for a wonderful evening - I'll definitely be back!
The fresh calamari was delicious and so was the turkish grilled cheese blocks (not sure the name of it). Amazing flavor and delicious combo!
Very friendly service and delicious food
Staff were nice and helpful. Vibe was fantastic. Food was great.
Located 2 minutes walk from Windsor station this Turkish restaurant is worth a detour.
We ordered the Marmara classic banquet.
Entree:
4 dips - all delish! Personal favorite was the carrot dip, which was slight sweeter than other dips but also very refreshing. Highly recommend any of them. Served with fresh warm Turkish bread (10/10
Vine leaves and first time for me trying Barlotti beans (unusual textures and flavors maybe an acquired taste?) (7/10)
Mains:
Iskender Kebab- served with garden salad. Lamb meat was tender and moist, no ‘gamey/greasy ’ Lamb after taste that you sometimes get (9/10)
Mixed grill of lamb cutlet and skewers on a bed of rice/pilaf. Perfectly seasoned. Very tender and moist- highlight! (10/10)
Dessert:
Turkish delight and kemalpasa (reminded me of Gulab Juman) served with mascarpone. Pleasant way to end the evening (8/10)
Servers were attentive, efficient, friendly and happy to answer our questions.
Banquet cost $39.5 per person, which was well worth the quantity and quality of food served - will happily visit again.
*If I could give 1/2 stars, I would give this place 3.5*
The Fork Festival is back on again and what's better than trying a new place out for 50%? Just less than 5 mins walk from Windsor station, this restaurant is in a really good and accessible location by public transport. The restaurant itself is not that big either, so I would highly recommend booking beforehand, particularly for groups larger than 2.
We ordered the Eggplant Dip to start off with (this came with a small basket of Turkish bread), the Seafood Claypot, Iskender and the Mixed Grill. With the Eggplant Dip, I would say that I couldn't taste much of the eggplant - I felt that the yoghurt was what I predominately tasted mixed in with the garlic and seasoning. Not to say that it wasn't good, but I was expecting more of an eggplant taste to it. The accompanying bread on the other hand, was fluffy and light and very addictive.
The Seafood Claypot had a bit of a curry texture/flavour to it and had a mix of numerous different types of seafood in it such as fish, mussel, calamari, prawns, etc. I quite enjoyed this as the sauce was quite light. The closest thing I can describe the meat in the Iskender is literally the meat you'll get from a kebab (but better tasting and not as salty). The meat was thinly sliced and was full of flavour. The Mixed Grill is more of a 'crowd favourite' and has a bit of everything in it, with a bit of salad on the side to accompany it. My favourite meat from this dish was the cutlet - this was cooked well and was moist.
Overall, the service at this restaurant was very good and the time to serve the dish was quite quick too. At 50%, it was an absolutely bargain but I'm not quite sure if I'd pay full price for what I ate, hence the 3.5 rating.
Not quite a 5 but more than a 4. The experience started with a friendly greeting on entry and appropriate help to choose from the many options in the menu. We then settled back for a short wait.
The warm Turkish bread soon arrived with the Caviar dip and was soon joined by our main course. My seafood claypot was deliciously sweet from a generous amount of seafood and mix of vegetables and spices. My friend's slow cooked lamb and chickpea claypot was beautifully done with the lamb still tender and chickpeas in a wonderful texture. Both dishes were bursting with flavour. The Kadaif dessert was intriguing in concept but a bit bland for my tastebuds.
Polite and helpful service throughout the visit. Beautifully decorated with stunning lights and typical furniture adorning the place added atmosphere. The tables are very close together however, creating a cramped feeling. The food is worth returning for and worthy of the high ratings.
4.5. Very attentive and helpful staff in a nice, intimate setting. We started with the spinach and feta spring rolls which were light and tasty. The mixed grill had perfectly cooked, tender pieces of meat which were delicious, although I wouldn't have minded a small amount of dip on the plate to make it even tastier. Our pepperoni and egg pide had less dough than I expected but I think I preferred it this way, as it made for a light crispy base to savour the generous serve of pepperoni and egg. Excellent food, definitely recommended.
2nd time here. Halloumi great. Spinach Pide great. Meat Platter great. Iskender (I used some of the Pide but as stated on menu, needs rice or bread for the sauce) also great. Attentive service. Only negative is I felt very crammed between the tables. Still would return. $80 for 2 ppl.
50% OFF food for the next 2 weeks on TheFork website.
Located at the Windsor end of Chapel street, this was a warm venue with several little seating areas to choose from. The light shades are in the authentic Turkish style and blend well with the city skyline decal on the wall.
The service was quick and efficient and food plentiful. (We also had the benefit of 50% off with The Fork). The rice pudding was my absolute favourite! But all the other dishes were well proportioned and tasty. Hello halloumi! The dips were good and bred fresh and tasty. Will happily come back.
Tried the banquet - plenty of food and we were very full by the end. Good prices and good service. Decor was nice too. Highlight was the meats. Well seasoned and tender.
Absolutely amazing food and service. Classic banquet was a perfect selection of different dishes for a good prize. Restaurant is a lovely and cozy place to eat. Will definitely go back.
Absolutely delicious Turkish food on Chapel. The interior design is a bit of a novelty (think tv "windows" displaying ocean scenery) but doesn't distract from the overall experience. If anything, it just makes it more fun and interesting. The food is moderately priced and extremely veg friendly. I started with the haloumi, which didn't look like much but turned out to be some of the best haloumi I've had in ages. It was served on a delicious bed of greens and crushed walnuts and drizzled with pomegranate molasses. I also tried the veggie fritters which were similar to a latke. They were only lightly fried and served with a great tatziki spread. For our mains, my partner and I shared the veg pide and veg platter. The pide was nice and soft and brimming with cheese, although I would have appreciated a bit more veg. The veg platter wasn't huge but contained a good assortment of dishes including a bulgur grain (like a mix between rice and Israeli couscous) and a wonderful stewed eggplant. Every bite was great both seperately and together. I would gladly revisit this venue any time.
One of the best restaurants I have been to in melbourne spanning over a period of 7 years. The dishes looked classy, meat so tender and to top it all, the service was great. Highly recommend this place.
Friendly, informal space and very accommodating. Changed our booking twice just minutes before we were due to arrive - from 8 to 9 to 11 and then back to 9! No problems.... :) Group meant the banquet option - one meat, one vegetarian. The dips etc the weakest on offer - pretty standard, nothing outstanding. But the mains (meat) were excellent - and positive vibes from the veggies suggested all was good there too. And dessert (Kemalpasha & Turkish Delight) good - and not too sweet. A boisterous 9 with lots of wine and beer meant we all paid around $60 each - excellent value for a Friday night on Chapel St!
Will come back for:
+ Mixed dips
+ Fish soup
+ Mixed grill
+ Semolina ice cream
We have been here a number of times, and always found the service and food consistently great. I particularly like the chickpea dip, but that is balanced nicely with the fresher cucumber dip. The fish soup is creamy, taste of the sea and fresh. And the mixed grill had a good mix of tender cuts of chicken, lamb and beef all well spiced and cooked perfectly. Although the seafood claypot we had was cooked well, I felt it needed a bit more spice to make this one sing. We finished the meal with a semolina ice cream which was delicious and a perfect way to round things off. All in all, another great dining experience.
My partner and I had the classic banquet here. First off, the table service and wait staff were top notch, and were delightfully friendly to us and our dog.
Food was great, whilst the dips were average, the meat mains was delicious and top notch and more than made up for it.
Well worth a visit for the mains.
I came here a few months ago with a friend, we started with the Turkish bread with dips and char-grilled halloumi. Then we ordered green beans and grilled prawns for the main. Everything came out at once, which was odd because we didn’t ask for this to happen. We then struggled to find room for everything on our small table, it wasn’t ideal and this should be avoided because it made us feel quite greedy.
The prawns and halloumi were delicious, I would definitely order these again but the service was lacking, this is why I’ve rated a 3.
I booked on Dimmi for a 50% discount on food. We opted for the special banquet. It was my partner's birthday so when I made the reservation I also left a note to say that a corner table would be very ideal for some privacy and we indeed were guided to a corner table at the back of the resturant. The interior was beautiful with the dim lighting and red and purple themed lighting. I was a little intrigued by the window decor they had that looked like you were looking out to sea, creatively done. It was nice staff went the extra mile at the end of our meal and gifted us complimentary turkish delights with a lit birthday candle. I'd definitely give 5 stars for ambience and service. I'm sure if you had certain requests these guys would do their best to accomodate.
As to the food itself, we felt for the price we paid ($25pp), it was very good value for money. My favourite were the prawns and iskender kabab. Least favourite was probably the skewers which I felt left quite a salty aftertaste but not otherwise flavoursome. The desserts were alright. I'd rate the food alone a 4.
Have been to Marmara a few times and can never fault their food or service. We always get the set menu, it's an easy way of tasting all of their best dishes without having to fuss over the menu! Great atmosphere and intimate venue. Perfect for small-medium sized groups.
Came here on a 50% off Dimmi booking and honestly could not fault a thing! The banquet we got ended up being $25/pp (including dessert and drink) after discount and it was the tastiest Turkish fare I’ve ever had. The bread was soft and pillowy + the assortments of dips were all delicious. The Spinach and halloumi rolls were outstanding and I was most impressed by the individual leaves in the roll (instead of that chopped, frozen spinach). Could eat 20 of those rolls! The prawns were also perfect and the bed of rice they sat on was cooked in something creamy which I wish I could identify! Grilled calamari was tender and grilled perfectly! When we got to the doner meat and skewers, we were so stuffed but the rich tomato sauce with the doner meat was so finger licking good. We ended up soggy bagging some away. The service was fantastic, food excellent the only thing you should note is that the restaurant is quite dark and looks like a club inside. 10/10 would come again!
Lamb cutlets or the mixed grill one of the best I have had. Definitely worthwhile if in the area. Dips, pickles, bread etc also thumbs up....
Not often do I have Turkish food, but the few times that I have had them, I find myself enjoying my meal tremendously and wonder why I don't do this more often.
Marmara is an intimate and relaxed space, dimly lit yet cosy enough. We were very well taken care of by the friendly and welcoming staffs, and also had the added pleasure of being chatted up by a little girl from a table beside us.
Being lazy, we went with the Classic Banquet and this was good value at $39.50 per person with more than sufficient food. Highlights were the skewered lamb fillets, skewered chicken fillets and lamb cutlets, all which were grilled to perfection. Both cuts of lamb possessed a luscious meaty flavour and tender to bite.
The thinly sliced lamb Iskender, which was less robust in flavour compared to aforementioned lamb fillets and cutlets, came with an absolutely delicious and tangy tomato sauce, and the yoghurt worked very well to balance out the richness of the sauce. This sauce could rivalled the yumminess of the dips, which were all creamy and so full of flavour.
Flavour-wise, the baked eggplants was my favourite out of the 3 side dishes while the dainty desserts were perfect to finish off such a hearty meal.
Dined at Marmara today with a 50% off dimmi booking, a cosy restaurant located in the heart of chapel street’s many restaurants.
Upon arrival I was amazed by the ambience and interior design of the restaurant, it definitely gives it a classier vibe + an intimate setting, despite the casual dining tag.
Service 5/5, all staff were prompt and super nice!
Food: 3.5/5
We ordered the eggplant dip which was very yummy, especially with some fresh & warm turkish bread.
Mains we had the tradition pide which was good but could use a bit more flavour and volume, we also had the kofte which was absolutely delicious! The serving size was a bit small but you do fill up on all the bread items so that wasn’t a problem.
Desserts, we had the baklava which was delicious paired with some turkish black tea, as well as the cookies which were definitely too many for my partner and I to handle and we definitely had to takeaway that.
Overall, even at full price i think marmara is an excellent restaurant to visit to get a taste of turkish cuisine at a reasonable price with service that isn’t lacking in any aspect! Thank you for your hospitality and we will be back soon!
Great Turkish food on Chapel St. Must order the lamb cutlets & Iskander kebab. Everything we ordered was impressive. Great Baklava to finish things also. Will be happy to go back there anytime.
Amazing Turkish restaurant, foods are tasty, flavorsome and traditional. First time here we ordered banquet for 2 and a bottle of Turkish pinot noir, foods are delicious with good portion, variety of foods also nice. Second time we ordered Turkish pide for entree, iskander kebab and Turkish dumplings. Those iskander kabab is a highlight of the menu, lamb cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth with burst of flavors. Also the dumplings really good and the Turkish pide, its crunchy on the side and tasty. Happy with the food quality.
One of the best Turkish restaurants in Melbourne. Service is always very friendly and the food really tasty. Their grills are second to none.
3 of us had the cheapest banquet, everything was great @ $40 a head including starters and desert. Service very good. No hipster nonsense, just good Turkish food and service. Can't go wrong here.
Thank You Marmara, A wonderful first time experience. A very clean, relaxing and soothing restaurant. Very friendly service, the mixed grill platter portion was perfect for one, and all the meats where cooked to perfection, full of smoked flavour with every bite, tender and succulent. And to end the night a perfect Turkish coffee with Lokum. After my experience I recommended this place to all my work colleagues, and I cant wait to go back. I highly recommend this wonderful venue.
I have been here a few times this year, and I've enjoyed every visit. There is a good variety for meat eaters and non meat eaters, great drink choices and very knowledgeable staff. Be warned- the Turkish bread and dips are so delicious, it's hard to fit anything else after!!
Delightful place with best food. This was my first time trying out Turkish food and I loved it. We ordered loads of it and couldn’t fault anything. The Turkish skyline panel is very intricate and shouldn’t be missed at all. Lovely ambience!
Wow! Just Wow!
I don't think I have ever had the experience, even in the top shelf restaurants, that EVERY course was superb; mouth-wateringly perfect.
The night started a bit "hmmm" as we were early, but were welcomed, then led to our table which was smallish (I thought) for 4 people and quite close to the other tables on either side. Then was also a bit taken aback to have the back of my chair frequently banged against by passing wait staff. I placed our 2 bottles of wine on the table and asked for 4 wine glasses and was asked if I wanted any wine in them - she wasn't joking either.
(Note to self: Marmara does have a representative wine-list at not too exorbitant prices).
Then I got over myself - and tuned in to what would be quite an authentic replication of a typical Istanbul food bazaar with its loud hustle and bustle and gorgeous aromas. The restaurant was packed and the service was efficient, friendly and courteous.
Then at the end of the evening, near closing, our table was the only one occupied, bar one other - the two customers next to us; right next to us; when the room was otherwise empty, I felt a bit cheek and jowly with them; I'm sure that in the now quiet, we could hear each others' every word.
But in the middle - WHAT a SUPERB dining experience - we ordered the MARMARA CLASSIC BANQUET ($40 pp) and, Man!, was it both Classic and a Banquet. 8 entrée items and 4 mains. It's hard to pick a winner - they was all superbly cooked with great differentiated flavours, but if you twist my arm, the Iskender kebab and the skewered Lamb fillets were outstanding - flavours, texture and aroma I contend will be hard to beat anywhere in Melbourne. Finished off with a superbly brewed Turkish coffee and a Raki.
Well done, Marmara - we shall be back!
Delicious middle eastern food that was not only tasty, but incredibly filling! Amongst us we tried a few starters including the Vine leaves, haloumi, mixed dips plate and fritters - would recommend all! For the main, my friend and I decided to share the spinach and cheese pide, clearly we were eating with our eyes! As much as we tried, we couldn't finish it after stuffing ourselves with the starters, but made a great meal for lunch the next day!
Highlight for me though was the delicious Turkish apple tea (ordered 2)! For those who don't drink or aren't feeling the alcohol, would definitely recommend this,
The staff were Very Friendly and accommodating
Really enjoyed my meal of lamb Kebabs but found the portions very small and overpriced
The other guests at our table enjoyed their meal but also commented that the portions were very small for the price tag
Kool little restaurant along chapel thought I would give it a go... took my partner here for a date night we were going to get the banquet but decided it would be too much food which was probably a good move. We ended up ordering the mixed dips the mixed grill and the prawns all the meals were great tasted very nice and well priced. Drinks menu has a lot of variety and expresso martini’s are only $12 which is awesome all in all a great experience will definitely go back again.

A Turkish Delight on the south side of Melbourne. Traditional home-style Turkish cuisine, welcoming service and the perfect ambiance. If you’re coming to this place, I recommend doing yourself a few favours. 1. Come with friends. 2. Leave the car at home. 3. Indulge the night away with one of their delicious banquets. 4. Share a couple of bottles of Turkish wine. 5. End on a Raki. Perfect evening, done.
Just go in, sit down, and order lamb cutlets main. The best lamb cutlet dish i ever had! Same goes with the pilaf rice, so flavoursome! The dips were really delicious, especially the chickpea dip, felt it was freshly made! Will definitely go back soon!!
Yummy food and great service.
We shared a lot of dishes and all were so nice.
The atmosphere is great too, very chilled. Great location. Highly recommend.
We had the set menu because why not! Food was beautiful - strong fresh flavours, colourful & well presented. My only negative - the portions were small for what you pay for, I ended up eating not much so my partner could have a decent serving - lots of salad & but other areas like the, all meats, entrees and Rice’s very small - more the portion for 1 big eater not 2 people. The set menu really needs improvement in this area but the food was absolutely amazing so I can’t score less than a 4. Make the portions bigger & this would be a strong 5! McFoodie will be back!!!
Nice restaurant with friendly and helpful staff and it was very busy for a Sunday night. We ordered the seafood claypot and the mixed grill. The meat was gorgeous; cooked perfectly and flavoursome but I thought the seafood claypot was a bit bland and not as tasty as I expected. For dessert, we had boza and kemalpasha. I wasn't keen on the boza but that's just personal preference. The kemalpasha was a first timer for me and oh so delicious. All in all, a great experience and I would recommend this place. P.S I have been to Turkey. Oh and I love apple teas so I was happy when I saw it on the menu!
Service was just superb. Mad props to the guy with red hair, so attentive and personable. Food was gorgeous as well, the lamb cutlets literally melt in your mouth. I liked the ambience a lot, with the moody lighting and cosy but urban atmosphere that contrasted with food that seemed pretty traditional and homemade. Really, really great spot in busy Windsor.
—— 2nd visit February 2020: Still divine as ever. Was lucky to get amazing service by the same red-haired guy.
Stumbled in to this place while roaming on chapel st looking for dinner. Firstly the interiors are a bit intriguing. Waitress was very friendly explaining the dishes as this is a new forte of flavours for us. We got mixed dips entree which was spot on, then we got vine leaves dolma which tasted unique for our palette but in a good way, then we had great tasting spinach pide and skewered chicken fillets with good char and great taste. We couldn’t get past baklava and Turkish delight which is thumbs down the best Turkish delight I had in Melbourne. Over all great food with good vibe.
This place is a hidden gem, tucked away on Chapel Street next to Tokyo Tina... went there with a friend and we couldn’t believe the amount of food we were given for the banquet. Just like the cuisine I had in Turkey.. the dolmades are exceptionally divine!
Will be back that’s for sure!
Came with two friends and shared such a delicious meal! The lamb was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten! Highly recommend! Best thing was sharing the Banquet with friends - a great night
In the Windsor end of Chapel Street is this intimate Middle Eastern restaurant. I needed to take my friend somewhere vegetarian and this place had plenty of vego options. The pides were particularly good. It's nice that there's variety along Chapel St and Marmara has been here a while and doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon. Yum!
From the moment you walk in you feel welcomed by very friendly and attentive staff. The restaurant itself is decorated with a feel of Istanbul, so you are set with the mood of a Turkish feast!
My husband & I ordered the Marmara Special Banquet & it was a lot of food for the two of us.
We started off with five different types of dips, baked eggplant, dolma (vine leaves) spinach & feta spring rolls, green beans & soft Turkish bread. Yum! Then we had five different items in the main course. A really delicious grilled calamari followed by Iskender and a side serving of salad, which was amazing. Then came the grilled prawns on a bed of Turkish pilaf. For the last course we got chicken & lamb skewers with pilaf and bulgur. To end the beautiful dinner we were served a trio of desserts and Coffee and Tea. The deserts were a slight let down compared to the quality of food prior. Overall a fantastic Turkish restaurant.
Great food and great service here. We had the classic banquet and it was great with a variety of Turkish cuisine. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant for great turkish cuisine.
I went with a group of friends and ordered the classic banquet which comprised warm Turkish bread, dips, a few vege entrees, a selection of chicken and lamb meats and dessert. The food was tasty and the service was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended. l
Came here with a bunch of friends to celebrate my mate’s birthday this Friday. We all got the 5 course banquet at an incredible price of $50 a head. The food was plentiful, not to mention, really quite authentic and lovely! The meats are definitely a winner at this restaurant and the dips were delicious. The only negative I would point out is the service of one of the waiters. We had made a reservation for 7 and ended up with 8 people, and this waiter made snarky comments and was quite rude, just to accomodate 1 more person. Luckily the other waitstaff were lovely (especially a redhead waiter who served us throughout the night) and on a whole, the experience was quite enjoyable for us!
!
Birthday dinner at Marmara. We booked the table via Dimmi and had 50% discount. We ordered special banquet and great value for money. The foods were yummy especially the main course dish with Lamb Kofta. My friend didn't like the taste of Vine Leave Dolma. Overall, the food 4/5, the service was 4.5/5 ( friendly staff and excellent service ), the feel looked 4/5. Definitely, will come back again!
This was our first time having Turkish food. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. We had a good night out at Marmara and we will be back.
Delicious turkish food at a very good price if you book through dimmi.
Lamb was cooked perfectly, pink in the middle. The salad was ok and the rice had a nice flavour to it.
Dips with bread came out quickly and service was attentive and friendly.
The food was 3.5/5, I would recommend adding more seafood item's and having a special. The atmosphere was good and the service was great! Would definitely head down there again.
I dined here with a group of friends on a Thursday night. Marmara is a gorgeous restaurant tastefully decorated in Turkish/Moroccan decor. The staff are attentive and friendly. We thought everything sounded delicious so we ordered a range of dishes to share, we had warm and fluffy Turkish bread, tasty homemade dips, grilled halloumi salad, lamb pide, bulgur salad, grilled meats, pilaf, and baklava for desert. Every dish was fresh, delicious and generous in servings. We really enjoyed our evening, the atmosphere is lovely too, we will definitely return for more.
Our love for Mediterranean / Turkish cuisine made us visit this restaurant which is located on a busy street of the very happening Chapel Street. It's not very difficult to locate this tiny place due to very eccentric interiors. Music goes well with the mood and we had no complains about the ambiance.
Ordered tamek, a platter of mix dips which was served with Turkish bread, char-grilled Haloumi, Margharita Pide, Kofta and Skewered Chicken Fillets. We were also served some fritters (veg) that we had not ordered, due to some communication error. They also served us a complimentary platter of Turkish Delight and Baklava.
What actually WON our hearts for that evening were the Baklavas and Turkish Delights. Delicate Baklavas were full of flavors with the right crunch, right nuttiness and sweetness. They were totally sinful. Turkish delights again, super soft and melting.
Winning Dishes of the day were easily the Kofta, Margharita Pide and Skewered Chicken Fillets. The Koftas made out of lamb were the most delicately flavored and juiciest meat we ate that night. The perfectly grilled chicken fillets was high on flavors even though they were marinated with very little spices. Pide is one of the most famous dishes from the Mediterranean region. This stuffed turkish flat bread (almost like Pizzas but not exactly a Pizzas) was so crispy and cheesy.
Among the dips Chickpeas and Eggplant dips were good. They were very flavorful. The fritters served by mistake were kinda nice but too oily. The carrot and cucumber dips were bad and flavorless...probably because the sourness of the yoghurt was too overpowering for our palate. Char-grilled haloumi was cooked to a perfection but was way too salty for our palate. Overpowering of the salt made it difficult for our tongue to relate to the spices.
Proportions are decent enough for the price you pay.
God bless our friend who recommended us this place. Definitely returning very soon.
We ordered the Classic Banquet which was excellent. Everything came quickly, the flavours were fantastic. The only hiccup came with the dessert which took 40 minutes. We asked 2 seperate times if it was coming, there was no follow up or communication. It came out cold (pre-made) and were told the reason it was late was because it had just come from the oven. Prefer honesty rather than lying about an error. Food-good, service- average.
Went to Marmara for a friend's birthday dinner & they were super accomodating; I had to change the number of pax twice and it was no problem for them at all & the food they produced for the 17 of us was nothing but brilliant. Loved the Iskander kebabs the best! We were even given extra food on top of the Banquet meal we chose & everyone left feeling full and happy; highly recommended!
A little pricy but the food was good and the service even better. Michael hosted us and offered us extra food on the house when he saw that a few of us were still hungry. Cosy ambience in a bustling area!
Phenomenal food and service, one of my favourite restaurants. Recommend the traditional coffee, and any of their house made dips for entree, the iskender with a side of Turkish bread is pretty amazing aswell, i never leave this place feeling unsatisfied
Gluten-free people can be catered for, but they don't make it easy as it appears that everything involving rice also involves cracked wheat... even the dolmades.
We ordered two mixed grills (one GF, one standard) and the cacik (it comes with bread). The GF version had to skip the kofte and the rice, it was replaced with some extra salad and some green bean/tomato stuff.
The dip was helpfully delivered with some sticks of carrot & celery (which was a nice touch), but the bread didn't arrive until we were halfway through my main (it was also cut into fairly small pieces - note to self, if I go back, ask to leave the bread in bigger bits).
The serves were smaller than one usually expects for a Turkish place, but of a decent-enough size.
The food that made up the mixed grill was mostly good but not uniformly hot.
The doner was a little rubbery (long strips of manufactured lamb sausage) and lost any heat it had quite quickly. The cutlets were nicely cooked, the kofte tasty and with a good texture. Lamb & chicken shish was okay, but maybe lacking a little in the flavour department. There also wasn't enough sucuk - just one slice.
Service was quite friendly. Will be back.

Dinner at Marmara Turkish. Expectations were high as I've been to exactly one other Turkish place and loved it. Black and white lighting as street lighting isn't great. . Marmara Restaurant - "Named after one of the seven regions in Turkey. The region is home to cities such as Istanbul, Bursa, Canakkale and Gelibolu (Gallipoli). Istanbul, the most densely populated city in Turkey, is the former capital of three successive empires, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman."
Visited for the first time. Very relaxed atmosphere. Hats off for the customer service, genuine and down to earth. Food is really nice. I had the mixed grill with a nice glass of red. Will be back for sure.
(Nice comfy seating wich is hard to find sometimes)
Windsor was once a dive, only frequented by alcoholics and drug users although they still wander the streets now and take up camp at town hall screaming at anybody who walks by. Windsor is now the upcoming suburb and throughout the years a lot has changed, it’s become an area lined with bars, restaurants, and yuppie mums in their Porsche Cayenne wearing active wear and drinking an almond milk latte. Through it all one restaurant has remained and still thrives to this day, Mamara has been open and family run since 1980.
Delicious Turkish feast. The cucumber dip is amazing. Expected the mixed grill to be a bit bigger but was still delicious. Would definitely return.
Been here a number of times and the food and service is always fantastic! Plenty to choose from, meal sizes are good and the staff are super friendly and helpful.
I've lived in Windsor for 10 years and been to Marmara three times. Each time I've been I walk away thinking 'I have to come back here again'. For some reason I never make good on that...
This time around I got the skewered chicken filets and they were fantastic. Given my Greek background, and my need to be political, I would say they were almost as good as what I'd get at a Greek restaurant!
The dips were very good and came with a huge serving of bread.
Friendly staff and a great environment make me want to return. Let's see if I can up this to more than once every three years.
Nice atmosphere, warm & inviting. We ordered the classic banquet & every dish was delicious. The lamb cutlets were my favourite. The waitresses were friendly & attentive. We will definitely go again.
Consistently great quality food, fantastic atmosphere and very friendly service. All the dishes were delicious and unique - definitely recommend the meat, some of the best kebabs I've ever had.
We had the Special Banquet. It was amazing. Really enjoyed the lamb dish. We enjoyed everything from start to finish. Can't wait to go back.
It was a cheeky girls night, and we were after something delicious that wasn’t overly expensive. I had actually never had Marmara on my radar, however was so glad one of the girls recommended it! Turkish food usually isn’t on the top of my list when looking for somewhere to dine, however will now think twice on this yummy cuisine.
Fantastic service accompanied by exceptional food! Indulged in the special banquet with two friends and there wasn't a single thing we could fault. Can't wait to have dinner here again.
A fantastic little place that is cosy and full of flavour. We've been here twice now and both times have been fab. The team is friendly and the food doesn't disappoint. We tried the banquet between 6 people and it was more than enough food. We'll be back again.
It is my first time to try Turkish restaurant and indeed very nice experience. Waiter and waitress are all nice and very approachable. The Turkish bread is well baked smelling so nice and coming perfect with dips. The following grilled lamb is also yummy, no over cooked. Seafood clay pot is highly recommended with rice. The Turkish coffee is another highlight which has very strong and special flavour. While it is not dinner thing if you still go for sleep then~~
My partner and I went here on Friday night on a whim and were very impressed! We started with the hummus (chickpea dip) and we very impressed with the decent serving size a generous amount of bread it came with! We followed with the vegetarian fritters which were SO delicious and came with cucumber dip which worked wonderfully with them! We then got a mixed grill each and I can't express how delicious this was! Every piece of meat on the plate was juicy, delicious and a decent portion! The rice and salad that came with it worked really well and the whole dish was delicious. The service was friendly and all the food came at a good pace. We will definitely be coming back!
Really nice decent Turkish food! I tried a few in Melbourne and this is by far the nicest. A little pricey. but the food is consistent and really nice and does not seem to contain a lot of oil. Ive dined in and ordered the Donner lamb online numerous times from this place.
Along the Windsor end of chapel st this establishment oozes class the minute you walk in, service is warm and professional and it is a dimly lit space but without being too dark, it makes for privacy in a somewhat tight layout.
We opted for the connoisseur banquet at $59 per head which is pretty much a feed me option, we ploughed through nearly every single dish on the menu and could have had more food had we wanted, the girls even asked us if we wanted repeat dishes.
I lost track of the amount of food we consumed but after eating at many middle eastern restuarants I can honestly say the food was exceptional, fresh, well seasoned, great use of spices and pretty diverse for Turkish cuisine.
The standouts were the Calamari which was charred and really really tender and consisting of that REAL calamari taste, one that is becoming less and less common.
The other dish we really loved was the Iskender, slices of shaved lamb in a yogurt and rich tomato sauce, I would have liked rice instead of salad with this to cut through the strong tomato flavour but that is really really being picky.
Overall I would highly highly recommend Mamara to everyone, great staff and the food is really at the high end of Middle Eastern cuisine and would and will be my first choice for this type of food from now on.
I absolutely love Marmara
Good hearty fresh food. Menu is extensive and vegan friendly
Generous serves
Friendly service
Can't fault this local gem
Worthy of more visits
Yum yum yum... we treated ourselves to the Turkish delights of the banquet.... and we were not disappointed... the food is delicious, the flavours enticing... combined with the atmosphere and service a great evening!
