Review Fonda - Windsor

Jason Tabrett
I had heard lots of good things about Fonda and decided to give it a try! The burritos were interestingly very healthy using substitutes instead of rice and other fillings. There were some interesting choices of margaritas and I loved the one I chose! The food and drinks are a bit expensive and medium size, so it’s not a place to go to for a big meal or to get drunk. If you want a Mexican place with delicious tasting food and drinks to enjoy however, this is your place! The staff were beyond friendly and it was a pleasant experience all round!

The food was tasty and the service was good, but the vibe and ambience were greatly lacking. It was like eating take out food in a food court or similar - just happened to be seated inside. My eldest daughter found the food too spicy and didn't enjoy the meal (except the chips).

Mediocre at the very best. Have had better Mexican food at average Mexican restaurants at half the price. The burritos require a major flavour upgrade whereas the tacos were ‘dry’ - for the lack of a better word. The only saving grace was the mango chilli margarita which was delicious.

Went with a big group on a Saturday night. We were spending quite a bit of money and we were greeted with the rudest waitress I’ve ever encountered. She gave a horrible attitude when dealing with us the whole night and wouldn’t stay when we were asking questions. On top of this most of the food orders came out wrong and 45min after we had ordered. I used to love Fonda Windsor but after this experience I think I’ll hold off from having to interact with the incredibly unhelpful staff and copping death stares from the waitress’s.

Food was good but not the best Mexican place I have eaten at. The drinks weren't bad either. Prices were standard for a restaurant. Overall an good but not great place. Also, no table service which was a bit annoying.

It’s a beautiful restaurant with a great set up. It will definitely catch your eyes on the Chapel Street. The food was delicious with their set menu worth every penny. Their drinks could have been better but apart from that the chicken burrito and chips were just absolutely remarkable!

Came in on Friday night for dinner and the food was delicious! Emma was really nice and provided great service throughout the evening. Will definitely be coming back!

Visited late afternoon .Was a quiet restaurant with 3 tables .Food came out quick. We had the quesadilla combo with a house made strawberry lime soda and chips and 2 bags from the special Collab with wonder bao. Would give the bao's a miss as they were pretty average .The quesadilla was nice and refreshing and not very cheesy with the flavour of the pulled pork showing thru. Strawberry soda was okay .The smoked salsa with the combo was the highlight.

A lovely restaurant, been to several locations however this was the first. I love the colourful food and its delicious! Look forward to coming back soon

Thank God that we still take risks of ordering from the most unusual places even after some bad experiences or how would we come.across this gem?

Were completely smitten by their slow cooked beef burrito. And their Chicken Quesadilla weren't bad top. Loved the smoky, herbed chipotle chips too...

Definitely among our favorites.

No complaints about this popular Mexican franchise. The nachos and frozen margarita I ordered were delicious, with the serving large enough for two at a very reasonable price.

At one point however, a wanderer on chapel street lunged for my Margherita and walked off with the straw, so if you would rather an uninterrupted meal, I would suggest ditching the street entertainment and eating inside. With brilliant and fast service, I will be making this place a regular for me.

I went to an event hosted at this fonda upstairs. What a gorgeous venue. With the mexican cocktails and food it was a perfect night.

I was invited to the Mexican Launch Food experience at Fonda in Windsor, and it was the first time I've been there and it looked awesome with the roof top bar.

I tried the taco experience at the cart and they made it on the spot!

The Barbacoa (lamb) and the Carnitas (pork) is just so tender and smelt so nice!

We can add our salsa and garnish on it to create our own tacos.

The chilli tasted awesome on the tacos!

We also had the opportunity to try the tequila cocktails. It was really nice!

Unfortunately I had to leave early as I felt unwell so was unable to try the other delicious items on offer.

Chargrilled corn, Nachos with Black Beans and Mushroom Quesadilla with Fonda Paloma🍹
- This picture was taken at @fondamexican located at Chapel Street, Windsor, Victoria, Australia
- Chargrilled corn very yummy very juicy and tempting
- Nachos was a great treat to my mouth.
- Quesadilla was so juicy in the inside and so crispy outside, served with a dip. - Perfect blend of mushroom, herbs and spices.
- Fonda Paloma is a nice cocktail with a jackfruit and black salt is coated outside the glass circle 😍, Very exotic drink

This has got to be my one of my fave Fonda outlets. Love the layout and décor! Upstairs is a cool place to sit for some yummy food and a cocktail.

So many vegan options too, YAY!
VeganeatsM
This is hands down the best place to go if you are looking for some vegan Mexican food. They now have items which as labeled as vegan as compared to before when they were only vegan on request. I highly recommend the broad bean & chickpea falafel burrito.
Service is also super attentive which is also a big plus for me.

Favourite restaurant hands down - affordable, delicious and healthy :)

Have been a Fonda fan since the early days of the Richmond store. There was a dip in quality when they opened Windsor a few years back but to his credit, the owner, Tim contacted me to enquire about our poor experience back then.

Well, Fonda Windsor has well and truly dropped the ball. We should have known something was up when we arrived at 6pm on a Wednesday to a nearly empty restaurant, where previously there would have been a full house and a waiting list.

Myself and my guest ordered fish taco, prawn taco, chopped beef burrito and chipotle chips.

The fish taco had no zing in it anymore. Used to be my favourite dish there. Now there’s no zest, just bland bland bland. I know they have used frozen fish cubes in the tacos for years but I’ve never cared because it tasted good. But this time it was a dried up, tasteless excuse for a piece of fish.

Onto the chopped beef burrito. They have changed the recipe on this one, not much spice to it anymore and have stopped using mince but instead use cut up chunks of some kind of reconstituted beef substitute as it didn’t have the fibres of a piece of beef, more like a smooth devon/luncheon meat/Belgium. If this is cost cutting then it’s a desperado move, I mean really... mince is pretty cheap, how do you find something cheaper?

We left half our dishes on the plate and as we were leaving, called Nathan the manager over for a chat. Explained we are long time customers but tonight was probably our last night at Fonda and explained the food issues.

Well Nathan gave literally zero fscks. He told me they’ve been using the meat chunks in the burrito for 3 years now. I’m like c’mon man, I’ve been here plenty of times in the last 3 years and it’s always been beef mince in the burrito, but no, Nathan was determined to go down swinging with his “3 years” story and stuck to it 🙄. Why tell the customer something the customer knows to be complete bs from ACTUAL experience of the dish every time the customer has been to Fonda? I doubt Nathan has been there 3 months let alone 3 years.

We pointed out how the fish taco was a shadow of its former self and he asked “was it the aioli?” and we explained the lack of zest and the dry fish cube.

As big fans and long time customers of Fonda, you’d think Nathan would have tried to make the situation better. We were not looking for a free meal, but when half of each dish goes back to the kitchen uneaten, that should be alarm bells to the restaurant that something is wrong.

We reiterated to Nathan that this would probably be our last time here, after all, in hospitality if you can’t tell the guy running the place where it’s falling down, then what have we come to? He didn’t even try to get us to come back another time. He was like ah ok, yep, rightio... and that was it.

Sad times indeed for Fonda Windsor. Given the lack of customers in there last night, the food quality taking a huge dive, Nathan’s bs storytelling and high Chapel St rents, I give Fonda Windsor 6 months before it’s in the bin....like the food we sent back to the kitchen.

Damn shame that. It used to be awesome. 😦

Food's good, if a tiny bit samey.
We had Quesadillas and a burrito. The mains were fantastic, the nachos we got as a side less so.

Nice spot though, the atmosphere's great!
Dessert was delicious👌
HelloPinapples Aregreat
Tried the tacos on the new vegan menu here a few nights ago and there were packed with flavor! The tofu one had a Smokey flavor which I loved. They even had vegan aioli and cheese. Only wanting to live on one side of the wall from now on. Loved this Mexican.
Mwalla Doo
Ordered Uner eats from this place and it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. Tasteless frozen fish pieces, chicken was disgusting and the guacamole was terrible. Never again

Been to the Richmond Fonda many times so I was really surprised to see how huge the Windsor one was. Rooftop upstairs but it was closed when we were there. The decor was awesome here. Had the bim bap, and it was huge!! Really tasty. The cerviche though, wasn't the best. Egen after squeezing lemon it still had the metallic fishy taste
Julia Sansone
Love this place! Their drinks are delicious and everything is always consistently great. At certain times of the year they run movies & margs which is such a good idea, they bring food and drinks to you while you watch a classic flick!
Amirah
Very cool vibe, foods alright not the best Mexican but definitely good. Service is great and the rooftop is the perfect hangout spot. Chicken salad bowls is a must
Miagoreng.com
Absolutely love Fonda - the tacos and corn are my favourites to get - great vibes always and the bonus is that they have a rooftop which sometimes turns into a cinema.
Stephanie
Amongst 2 people we shared: chips, nachos, chicken quesadilla, pork quesadilla, basil and strawberry soda and passion fruit and ginger soda.
We were full and didn’t finish everything. Reasonable prices and delicious food.

Downside: service was very attentive but we came early, it was quiet and they sat us right in the sunlight which was inconvenient.
Steven JM
Ordered 1 beef burrito for take away and was told it would be 15 minutes. So, arrived 15 minutes later, paid, and then waited for another 45 minutes. Staff then said the order wasn't on the system so we asked for a refund which took another 15 minutes to process. Didn't end up with dinner but did waste over an hour sitting waiting for nothing. Not the outcome I was after. Who knew it was so hard to get a single burrito.

Trendy Mexican served in a modern cool venue on Chapel. Still popular as ever on a Saturday night. Food is well priced and reasonable and fresh and delicious. Great tacos and salads and of course corn chips served with Avo and tomato salsa. Lots of GF choices to choose from. Loved the frozen margaritas and the frozen aperol cocktail an absolute winner.
Linda
I’d go a 4.5 - zomato bring half ratings in please!!
The staff are great here, extra .5 for it - friendly and attentive. I asked if there was an alternative table I’m a warmer location and the waiter closed the windows to block the wind.
The meat is beautiful seasoned and tender - the fish in the taco is superb. Don’t come here without trying one! And the nachos are delicious - the chicken was flavoursome and well portioned. I’ve been to Fonda in another location, and the Windsor one stands out.
Alex Kincaid
I love this place! They do the best burritos, always delicious and so fresh. The wait staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Never had a bad experience and I have been many times. Their frozen margaritas are also a must-have, they are delicious.
Minyip
I love going here for a bite and a cocktail during the day when they're not super busy. There have always been seats available out the front (outside) even on sunny days. The rooftop is nice too. Staff are suuuper friendly which is half the reason I keep going back :)
Mish 🍔❤️
I found the staff to be not very friendly, they were very pushy and I got the vibe that asking questions or making requests was too much.
Other than that the venue is very nice, the food was good as always and the espresso martini was perfect.
Thuyteeisaboy
The only Fonda I’ve been to so far with table service? (Not sure if any of the others chains also do this). I ordered the corn cob and the chicken quesadilla. The corn was juicy and flavoursome I could have had another! Can’t go wrong with the chicken quesadilla either- nice flavours especially with accompanied with the sauce. I also had a lychee and elderflower frozen margarita that was delicious.
Marina Ung
I came here when my partner craved tacos, the tacos were beautifully presented however the fish one was extremely salty and we thought they were going to be hard shells not soft shells. We will come back to try the other things on the menu. :)
Tam Nguyen
First time trying Mexican food other than making my attempts in making it myself w friends and family. Chipotle chips was recommended by the waiter as a starter and were yum! The pasilla chicken tacos were better than what I thought. Flat out honest the appearance of the food made me thought the taste wasn’t going to be great. I was wrong. It was hella good!
Ally Sinclair
This has been a favourite of mine for years and they never disappoint. The food is healthy and tasty. Frozen margaritas are amazing. Staff are beautiful, helpful, and friendly. It’s hard to fault a place that keeps raising the bar.
Ellie
I really enjoyed Fonda. Food was good and they were accommodating with me being a vegan. They even have vegan smoked chipotle (so good)! Staff friendly, service attentive. And ambience was nice.
Charlie Daniels (Curious Charlie)
The chicken salad was pretty good as always but needs lime and dressing. Not enough dressing. Would we return? Yes, but not to this location. I always get the salad. ~ More Recent Posts

I am a regular at this Fonda venue. Love the food and they are always consistent. The addition of the rooftop area is welcomed and it looks awesome. Staff are very friendly

I love my Mexican and Fonda didn’t disappoint.
I feel the smith street menu had a little more options when it came to extras eg for the bounty bowl I could get falafel or fish while Windsor my only option was chicken!
Windsor store is definitely a lot busier compared to the others but the service was still amazing!
Perfect for a good margarita and taco 🌮
The pictures below are of the The bounty bowl, sweet potato taco and the grilled corn cob!

Absolutely love the fish burrito. Not so much for the corn, though apparently it’s one of their signature dishes. Always busy on weekend night but staff were great and friendly. Would love to come back and try their margs + nachos
MrMena
Solid choice, I loved the burrito with grilled chicken. I can see why these guys are expanding, a consistent product and who doesn’t like a bit of mexxxxxx
Kasandra Marie Caldwell
Yum! I had the falafel burrito and it was super filling! I couldn't even eat the whole thing! The staff were friendly, and frozen margarita was tasty as well! Will be back :)
Sir Brunch-A-Lot
Visited on Good Friday night when not much else was open, quite busy but managed to get a table at the front. Wait staff were lovely. We had the horchata cocktails, beef burrito, fish tacos & mushroom enchiladas. They were all delicious; particularly the horchata cocktail if you’re a sweet tooth. They were happy to split the bill even though it was quite busy.
Dine And Dash
I've come here twice now, and unfortunately, I've been left disappointed on both occasions. The place is very expensive for what you get - the proportion sizes are absolutely tiny. I do appreciate the funky and decorative interiors and the customer service is exceptional however I just can't get past how small the meals are! I had the grilled chicken burrito and shared the salsa board with a friend.

Don't get me wrong, the food is nice I guess but I probably won't come here if I'm really hungry!
Split The Bill
Love Fonda's fresh take on Mexican food, with a mix of traditional and fusion flavours. I always order corn, tacos and nachos plus a few extra plates depending on how hungry we are. Love the funky interiors & friendly and efficient service.
DamoForce Food
Don't do it to yourself. Over priced for what you get and was not very enjoyable. Will not return with so many other options in the area. Thanks
The Judge
Dined at Fonda on a friday night and enjoyed the experience. Having eaten here plenty of times one thing I love most is the consistency of the product. We enjoyed beef burrito, fish taco, sweet potato taco, corn and chips with salsa and guacamole, a classic Mexican feast.

We sat near the window and watched the chapel st activity roll by which is a great way to spend a meal. Food was nice and tasty without blowing me away but for the price is good bang for your buck.
Aleksandratravels
The atmosphere and service was great. The cocktails were delicious and the food was flavoursome. I asked for the vegan alternative and they gladly advised that was not a problem. I was skeptical that the flavours wouldn't be the same in the vegan substitute, however I was pleasantly proved wrong. They were spicy and delicious. Great place to grab a bite with friends and if the weather is warm check out the rooftop bar upstairs.
Melbourne To Mouth
Fonda! Visited on Friday night and as they’ve VERY recently switched up their game plan to table service, was keen to see how it all went down. The food hasn’t changed from it’s consistent and reliable form, always hard to choose a fave in this place when there’s so many good items.
Ceviche tostada and pulled pork quesadillas were the definite highlights, with fish tacos coming in a very close third in a round of food that was awesome for speedy, quintessentially Mexican.
We waited a while for our drinks but I’ll attribute that to the new style of service and assume once they get into the groove it’ll pick up a bit.
Staff always smiling and checking that we were ok, what more could you ask for in a place as busy as this on Chapel Street??
Rona Lee
Omgg that sweet potato quesadillas was more than amazing....have to try them!!! Seriously... but the taco is soso cuz a little bit dry and need more tasty. But the food is is apparently healthy and gotta try more next time! Just the waiting time is a little bit long...
Maddie Kingham
Came here for dinner with a friend on Saturday night. I ordered the deconstructed Mexican salad with chicken (my friend had the same with falafel) and we shared some tortilla chips. The food was really tasty, the chicken was juicy and had a delicious marinade. The staff were all friendly as well. Only drawbacks were: there is no table service- you have to queue up to order - and this actually isn’t made clear enough (the table next to us left because they were “sick of waiting”!). The portions are on the smaller side as well, although I must say- they were SUPER generous with the avocado! ☺️. Fresh flavours, good atmosphere.

Been a couple of times, Personally a bit overrated but the fish taco and mushroom dish was quite enjoyable. Drinks/cocktails are a bit over priced and average but standard for Melbourne
Ashlee
Every time I go here the taco's are always fantastic. Fonda is a nice, fresh and healthy alterantive of new Mexican food, instead of the traditional oily Mexican food. All taco's are corn tortillas so really great for anyone with gluten or wheat intolerances. Great experience, food and vibes. I will continue to return.
Pascal Cooney
Good atmosphere upstairs on a sunny afternoon. Love that stone & wood is served on tap, the slushy cocktails are good but a bit pricey imo. Had the fish burritos, which lack a good sauce. Added the chilli sauce and salsa on our table which helped a bit.
Vege Eats
Had the tortilla chips with guacamole which were yum. Also had the mushroom taco which was really yum but could have been filled a bit more!
L
Enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe, though going up to the bar and ordering was a bit annoying when in a group. I got the Grilled Chicken Salad, which was tasty, just nothing mind-blowing. I was satisfied afterwards, but I thought the portion size could have been a touch bigger too. I also shared a Pork Taco with a friend which tasted really great, but I thought it was very small for the price! Overall good food but a bit expensive for the serving sizes.
Dam Burger
Not a fan of this place. Need to order from the bar so makes it difficult when trying to relax with a group of friends. Food just average and need to get up all the time to get drinks.
ScottW
First time dining here a few days and really do love Mexican food so was expecting a lot. Unfortunately was slightly disappointed in the serving sizes for the price you pay and the staff members at the counter seemed more interested in chatting to each other and the door staff rather than focusing on is in line waiting to order.
Maddy Horne
Really cool place I remember ordering a quesadilla highly recommend this place. Also they give you a yummy made salsa dip with chopped tomatoes with tortillas. Really atmospheric place
Amanda Collins
Good atmosphere, but the food lacked flavour and was a little bland.
They surprisingly made some great cocktails but really wasn't wowed by the food for all the hype
James Grist
Been here a couple of times, food comes out pretty quick but find the service a bit weird. Our table had drinks & dirty plates left from the people before, we put them all together at the end of the table & even when the staff came out to drop the food they didn't clear it. Quesadilla was bland, beef tacos good 👍
Maddy Horne
Fonda is great if you're looking for a nice twist of modern infused mexican. It's great if you're not looking for the typical mexican where you feel extremely full afterwards, its just perfectly satisfying. I haven't yet gone to the rooftop bar but that will be a great time for when the warmer months come. I'd say i was a pretty frequent visitor, it's great priced too
@twogoodtoresist
Fonda takes a nice twist on modern Mexican. We love the vibe of the roof top bar and while the food is decent, it is rather pricey especially considering there is no table service. We don't believe that it's anything to ride home about but it's decent for what it is.
FoodHedonist
It's huge with plenty of space. We ordered nachos burritos and quesadilla. They all tasted good except for burrito. It was a bit bland. The service is way too quick though. They have a rooftop with some good Latin music.. I wouldn't mind it for just some drinks. A nice place to hangout. I can see myself coming back.
Kelly Edwards
Little disappointed... my tacos were cold and that was after they forgot my order and had to remake them.
Bar service was good and my margarita was yum so that's why there were a few points on my rating.

Have been wanting to go to Fonda for a while now and finally caught up with a friend this tuesday night. Was easy to get a table ( as tuesday) and was impressed with it overall. The staff are super friendly and chirpy and nothing is too much trouble for them. One of them even gave us a taster for one of the non alcoholic drinks when we asked him how it was- The Horcha. I thought that was so nice of them. The drink itself was a bit too sweet for me but was good to try to get an idea. Foe drinks I ordered the Non alcoholic Pineapple, Mint drink , while my friend got the watermelon strawberry cocktail. Quite nice but a bit weak on the flavours and alcohol ( as my friend put it) . For food we shared the tostadas and beef Enchiladas between us. The servings were generous and I loved the charring on the Enchiladas. The only negative for the food would be that some of the corn chips were very oily and few were not crispy at all. but overall loved the service, and the vibe in the restaurant. Unfortunately no room for their Fish Tacos- Next time. I will be back!!!

We hit up Fonda spontaneously for dinner on a quiet Sunday night. Always heard good things about this place so figured why not. First thing we noticed was the funky decor inside which was cool. Food came out pretty quickly too. The gf ordered a grilled chicken burrito and I ordered the pork quesadilla which were both awesome although pricey for Mexican food. We shared an order of tortilla chips with guac as well. Was a little disappointed it doesn't come with spicy salsa. But still good!
Vijay Raghava Reddy K
We have been to Fonda recently. I would say it has best ambiance and service. However, food is average and is kind of healthy in a way when compared to other Mexican restaurants in Melbourne.
We ordered Beef burrito and grilled chicken quesedilla. Beef burrito was kind of dry and I couldn't finish it. Cloudy Russian cocktail was awesome.
I would say bit pricy for quantity and quality of food offered. I like visiting Mexican restaurants for spicy sauces and cheesy quesedillas unfortunately this place is not for me.
Mary Pisasale
Went here with a bunch of uni girls! Had a great time, the atmosphere was really vibrant and the staff were lovely! I had the mex bin-nap which I chose for a light option but it was sufficiently filling! I ordered the guac on the side cause I thought it would be too much but I had all of it! The salad was really good!
Yourmelbournefoodguide
Perfect for a casual delicious meal, and reasonably priced. I always get the deconstructed salad which is healthy and filling, and has all my favourite things in there 😍😍
The Official Food Hunters
I love the fresh taste the dishes always deliver! The flavours are amazing and the colours so vibrant makes me enjoy the food so much more. By far best Mexican food out!
Sweetlikesugar
Am a frequent Fonda diner at their Richmond and Hawthorn joints. Met a friend for a mid week catch up. Was pretty quiet on Tuesday night so we got a seat easy, service was quick also. Went with the Tostado Board with pulled beef brisket and also have a fish taco (my fav) each. Highly recommend the Tostado board if sharing, gives everyone a little bit of everything - guac, tortilla chips, salsa, pickled carrot & onion - leaving enough room for a taco or something else.
Britt Jeffs
Still a really delicious place to grab some lunch and dinner. I've eaten in here and ordered off Uber Eats and Foodora. They are always on time, even during busy periods of the night or day. But I still think the original franchise on Swan St in Richmond is so much better than any of the other Fondas that I have visited. The burritos here are great but sometimes the quesadillas can be a little too charcoaled.
Steph McKinnon
I really want to love Fonda but we so few vegan options, it's hard to be really sustained. The venue itself is lovely and the new rooftop courtyard is amazing.
Shaun
Great spot on Chapel St to have a quick bite and some beers. The decor is inviting and their food is decent. Had the meal which was good in value. You get fish tacos, pork quesadilla, grilled corn and tortilla chips. Can't beat that. Service was good and the kitchen is fast.

They've also got a more private upstairs area and also a roof top dining area which is cool.
Simmyeats.Melb
Great staff, funky layout and a very cool roof top bar. Food is absolutely divine, it is modern, fresh and unlike your typical Mexican food (which I don't like as I find it too heavy, particularly burritos). I have been to the Fonda on Flinders Lane too and it's great to see that this Fonda is doing so well if not better. Beef burrito and fish taco was enjoyed with a Netflix and chill cocktail. Will definitely be back there again!
Fluffybinks
The food was tasty but nothing to blow my mind it's more like a high quality quick take away
The portions are a bit small
I HATE the fact you have to order at the counter call me old fashioned but I hate this hipster crap - line up, sit on crates WTH I want some comfort for my gen X bot and be waited on when I go out Because of this I won't be back
Kimberley Leggett
Rooftop is a great edition to the Chapel St fare and a great un-pretentious spot that is out of the city but still has a cool-hipster vibe! Love sitting up top when the sun is out or on a lovely cool night.
Even on a weeknight I find myself choosing the Grilled Chicken Salad which is light, fresh but packed with Mexican flavours. Corn tortillas here are fresh, and house-made and pair well with the different meat options (standout for me being the beef brisket ). Burritos are equally as good (although maybe a bit steep $15), fish tacos are fresh and well balanced. I love the swap of quinoa for rice (health nerd alert) which is still as-filling and as tasty as the regular. Can't start without the OG either, corn cob to tie to you over while waiting or fresh corn chips with their salsa tasting plate (really delicious!).
Michelle Aguirre
First things first, when I came here I was starving, I hadn't eaten all day and it was lunchtime. I've walked past this place a few times but had never eaten here before, on this day I decided to give it a try. The staff were very nice and accommodating and the food itself was okay, not awful, just okay. The reason I'm giving this place 2 and a half stars is that I feel I got ripped off for the amount of food I was given. I first ordered a watermelon margarita and the grilled chicken taco, now when I read the menu it did say that tacos were 6" but I assumed we were talking about at least three tacos within the meal but when it arrived there was literally just one tiny 6" taco and the margarita, which cost $12, was in a ridiculously tiny glass. Suffice to say I was disappointed and felt ripped off, but I was starving and willing to give them another chance, so I ordered a beef burrito, which like the taco and drink, was pricey but hey I love burritos. The burrito was also very small and came on a very small plate, no sides or anything.

The food and drink tasted nice but for the amount they charged, it was absolutely not worth it, there are far better, cheaper places to eat on chapel street.
Fiva Ersy
Love their foods (small portions but worth it!!), and the vibes (was a bit packed but loved the atmosphere). Friendly staff. I will definitely be back with some friends.

This is quite possibly the worst service I have ever had. I ordered 4 item from the menu at the counter and pointed out where we sat clearly. Over the next 30 minutes we had 7 waiters come up with all kinds of things that we didn't order. Twice the waiters just put stuff down on our table that I had to take back to the counter to point out it wasn't ours
Eventually the food came and it was pretty mediocre and not quite warm, I suspect from being passed around the room.

We just wanted to get the f*** out of there! Don't waste you're time!
MelbFoodHunter
Special occasion require special venues and the rooftop section of Fonda Windsor is simply the best! Great menu that appeals to every palette and friendly service. Had Horchata to drink - the best liquid you will ever have! Smooth almondy-milky, full of vanilla and cinnamon tastylicious! As a main chose the chicken quesadilla, which came with the right amount of cheese and fantastic toppings! Can't fault anything! Will come back heaps!
Paul
Seriously good mexican. Pretty pricey but totally worth it. Their margaritas are THAT good, be careful because if you like them be prepared to buy 50 of them.
Nick Janko
Hands down the best burrito you'll ever have (chopped beef, though the fish is really good too).. Only downside is the waiting time to get in during peak hours on some nights, but that seems to be the trend these days at all the funky places...
Theknifeandforktalk
Came for lunch on a beautiful sunny day and the menu was perfect for what we were craving! Ordered two tacos and the pork quesadillas. Amazing, fresh, tasty, delicious Mexican food. Staff were friendly! One thing missing off the menu that we were craving was Sangria possible thought? Great stuff!
Abbey Baldacchino
The kind of Mexican that doesn't make you feel oily or fat after! Ingredients taste so fresh and lovely! So many vegan and vegetarian options.
Naska
This place is barely deserving of the 1 rating. Half the people i know who have gone here have gotten food poisoning, myself included. Never again.
Jessica MKR
Sooooooooooooo DISAPPOINTING..!!!!
What kind of institution can call a drink an espresso martini if there is NO ESPRESSO in your drink..!?
Appalling and a total waste of money.
I would NOT recommend you order this drink from Fonda EVER..!!!!
No crema that you would get from a shot of espresso, to be quite honest I have NEVER. Been more disappointed with an espresso martini ever.
Laura Jayne
One of my favourite spots. I love Mexican food especially when it's as nice on the waist line as what this restaurant is.
My favourite thing about Fonda is the f**kn hot sauce!
I have ordered most of the salads and they are divine.
Portion sizes are reasonable, if you are extremely hungry, I would recommend ordering some sides as well.

Quite overpriced, but the food itself is good.

The food, however, is not so much of a stand out as it should be for how highly it is priced. The food tastes merely like a lighter version of several of the fast food chain Mexican food that is around this area. I could go there and get a cheaper and more substantial, flavoursome and hearty meal. Personally, the food here feels a bit "light" for me, not necessarily in a healthier way, just less satisfying. The tacos are tiny for how much they cost. The burritos would be the best value option to eat here. We ate the tacos (a selection of fish, chicken and pork tacos), but have had the burritos at the city outlet.

The service is a bit conceited. Staff did not make it clear if we were to be seated or seat ourselves, did not direct us to the water/bring water over, and were unfriendly when I asked where the toilets were located. This got us off to a bad start.

had the fish burrito & pork quesadillas. a lot less tasty than the cbd branch (either not seasoned well or the sauce lack something). service was slower as well. quite disappointed

A solid three, but in no danger of going higher. Three level restaurant, packed Friday night. Lots of cooks and no waiters, that's because diners have to get up and order and pay for every drink and morsel as they need. Once ordered the delivery staff bring the drink/food to your table. The margaritas are good, tacos tasty, salads and burritos also fresh and tasty. Formulaic above average Mexican fare. Nothing to get you shouting ole, but pretty solid, like the three.

This place has gone down hill.. We live local and we eat here often and the last few times (tonight included) I have been disappointed! The burritos lacked flavour and were below there average standard.. Tortilla chips are good, but you cant stuff up tortilla chips.

Easy relaxed night out venue. Select a table and peruse the menu. When ready to order you pay and place the order at the counter. Food is brought out with drinks. Water and glasses at the bar so help yourself. Modern Mexican and very well priced.

I love this place. Went with a couple of girlfriends on a Saturday night and got a nice table on the rooftop. The cocktails were Delicious and really original. The food was fresh and full of flavor. I highly recommend giving this place a go.

I had my first Fonda Mexican experience at this Chapel Street location when I was invited to dine in to celebrate a friend's birthday.

First things first, if you're super hungry and looking for a filling dinner, Fonda Mexican may not satisfy those cravings. Food portions are small, better suited for snacking and/or lunch breaks.

For a Wednesday evening this place was absolutely packed, so it's obviously a popular place to dine and to socialise for the locals. Don't forget to book a table if you're dining in as a large group, tables may be hard to find.

I must be honest when I say that I've experienced better Mexican in a less noisy restaurant. My Chicken Burrito was sub-par. The salad was well portioned throughout the wrap, but the spices were lacking. In less than 5 bites, my 'main meal' was gone. At $15 a burrito its somewhat embarrassing having to order another.

Great food and atmosphere, the D.I.Y board is perfect to share among friends. Friendly staff. If given the chance, grab a table on the rooftop as the lower floor tends to get quite busy during the evening. Also had the chicken quesidilla, pork and mushroom tacos and the chicken burrito. All were great

Located in busy area of Windsor, excellent ambience makes you a tick to go in at the first place. Excellent Mexican food, more than makes it up for the price

Order and pay at the counter is terrible.
Food is reasonable value and the drinks were pretty expensive. Easy menu. Fish tacos noticeably fresh and delicious. Burritos were yum but not wow.

Staff were all fabulous - genuine attentive service. This was the best thing about the venue.
Cool/funky venue with 3 levels, the 2nd level was empty (staff included which was strange).
The music was too loud at 7:30pm for dinner.

Not an ideal venue for a date night because of the music volume and non-table service. I would come back, especially for drinks on the roof-top on a summers night.

Good, reasonably priced Mexican food. Not exceptional. The staff is very friendly and there is a relaxed atmosphere in the place. I like Fonda for low-key dinners during the week. You order food and drinks at the counter/bar so personally I don't go here too often as I prefer table service.

Absolutely love Fonda for some fresh, healthy Mexican! Servings are generous, food was pretty quick and the menu has both healthier options alongside some Mexican favourites. No table service and cocktails were a little bit pricey for what was received. But otherwise, well worth it!

Honestly, I am utterly overwhelmed about my experience here - in a very positive way of course.

From the first moment we walked in, my friend and I were greeted with a smile from the coolest dapper out. The service was prompt and you can see that other waiters/waitresses are on the ball too! They don't waste time. 👌

You can sit at a table and decide what to get and order it at the counter before getting your food. Our food came out in no-time, we didn't take much notice because my friend and I were chatty as hell.

My favourites were the; fish and beef burrito, alongaside with the chipotle chips and the aioli sauce. The proportions were enough to fill us up! Prices are albeit rather pricey but it matches their goddamn highly esteemed service. 👏

Sit outside at your own risk as other customers may smoke. The toilets are gender neutral and the place itself is huge! They have a rooftop too (I need to check this out for next time). I'll be back when my wallet allows it. 😂

Not all franchises are bad. Fonda's burrito and chicken adobo salad was close to perfection. A brilliant mix of healthy, fresh ingredients and packed with flavor. You leave feeling satisfied yet not sinful at the same time, which is a good sign for (non-Americanised and basterdised) Mexican food. Tasteful, modern decor and prompt service completes the package.

Been here and the other branches a few times. Love the food, chicken burrito is my go to and the chips with chipotle are delish. Slightly expensive for a burrito but quite filling even though they look small

We arrived just before they got really busy so we were seated quickly. We ordered fish tacos and they were really fresh and flavourful. The place is often packed creating a good atmosphere but, having to go queue up to order and pay, for me, defeats the purpose of going to a restaurant. It's a lovely feeling you get when you're waited on at a restaurant, which this place is but strangely the only service you have is when they deliver food and take away empty dishes.

I have been to ALL the Fondas (fan-girl right here) and this is by far the best. Freshness of food, restaurant layout and "vibes" tops them all. Love you!
