Review Susie Wong - Restaurant & Bar - Windsor

Sing Chongkijthavorn
There are many Fusion Asian type of restaurants opened in Melbourne in recent years. I thought Susie Wong will be one of them. It's interesting that the restaurant is located in Windsor. What I meant is that not a lot of Asian live there but it could also attract Asian if the taste is right. The restaurant is not very easy to spot. The sign is rather small. It's not far from the Adult Shop. First thing that I notice about the restaurant is the interior decoration. It definitely has a strong oriental flavoured. Very pretty in red. There is a option for Chef's choice. For someone that like to try a bit of everything it's a no brainer option. The food portion is very generous. I definitely walked out from the restaurant feeling very full. Lucky we only went with 5 dishes and 7 dishes. I wouldn't call their food Asian Fusion. They serve different dishes from Southeast Asia. They have nicely implemented their own Western flavour to suit the locals. The oriental flavoured is extremely lacking in their dishes unfortunately. They do have 1 stand out dish, which is their Coconut desert in banana leaf. My friend commented she will come back here just for the dessert. I am not sure if they made their own dessert. Their service is definitely a 5 stars service. I'm Asian and I pay a lot more attention to the taste of the food rather than the service.

Great food and a great location if you are heading to Red Stitch. No keg beers but good range of Asian labels plus some locals. Calamari was beautifully cooked and tasty. The roti is delicious and we tried the fish and tempe dishes. Staff are friendly and attentive. Relaxed atmosphere with options to be in or out.

Amazing warm customer service, and beautiful food. Strongly recommend the warm mushroom salad, honey srirarcha chicken wings and the lemon grass beef. All were amazing!! Definitely making a return appearance here

Really really good food, and surprisingly uncrowded the night we had dinner there, given there were 45-90 minute waits at all the other places. Had the oxtail dumplings in master stock (so good!), fried tofu with bean paste, eggplant and nashi pear salad. All amazing. Cocktail selection was fab too. Will be back!

Came here on a Thursday night around 6 pm and the menu looked amazing. Unfortunately they seemed severely understaffed, we could see one waitress (who was also doing bar service) and two chefs for a restaurant that was quickly filling up. After nearly 40 minutes of being seated and looking at the menu, we needed to leave and we did. I was prepared to pay the price and was sure the food would have been interesting, though would really only give it another go if I was certain of how long we would be waiting for before being served or noticed.

This truly is the neighbourhood gem! From the moment we walked into the warm and cosy room we were treated like part of the family. The service is attentive, familiar and genuine. (A rare find these days). The food is Asian style with modern flare, and does not disappoint. Beautiful aromas and flavours make each dish a standout and also makd it impossible to pick a favourite. We can wait to get back and taste them all.

Went to here last night with friends. I chose the restaurant as I've been wanting to come for a few years. Unfortunately it was Cluster of errors from the minute we were seated. Lets start with drinks. Firstly they were out of Hendricks gin and a two of the limited beers on their menu. The waitress who admitted was on her third shift knew nothing about the beers or wines which were expensive. The cheapest wine was $56. My tanquaray 10 G and T was $14! When she poured the wine she missed the glass completely and wine went flying across the table Dinner: they were out of 4 dishes! It is Saturday night @ 6.30pm. Really??? The food was nice enough but i felt the mains were on the small side and all tasted similar. All in all Nothing special. I was embarrassed as i had chosen the restaurant. The staff on general were just kind of wierd. When the head waitress was explaining the specials she was also informing us if the prices which i thought was odd and she kept looking at the door... it was just a wierd vibe in general.

Great Asian fusion restaurant at the end of Chapel ! The chef selection banquet is amazing, cocktails are surprising and really tasty! Great cosy atmosphere. definitely recommend !

This was a classy place. I recommend going here if you’re looking for a great restaurant on Chapel St. Great food. Nice hosts. Friendly atmosphere. The outstanding dish was the fried chicken dumplings, which had a drizzle of fish sauce. Go for the share meals.

Went there on a Tuesday night around 7pm and were the only table in the restaurant for an hour. Considering it was quiet you would expect the food to come out quickly and be fresh and warm but that was not the case. Upon looking at the menu, nothing leapt out and was super exciting. We had dumplings, bao, tempura rockling, salt and pepper squid, Panko chicken and fried tofu. Nothing was stand out and serving sizes rather small. Salt and pepper squid was soggy, chicken were weird cheap cuts and resulted in lots of little bones, don’t remember finding any tempura rockling in the lettuce cup and certainly not crispy or flavourful. <br/>Probably won’t be returning but staff were nice enough

Fantastic option for Asia fusion on Chapel street. The service is especially friendly and attentive and the food is delicious. Between two we ordered the pork, cabbage and garlic chive dumplings, the rockling tempura lettuce cups, the salt and pepper squid and the Burmese lamb with tomato and cloves. I really enjoyed all the dishes but the lettuce cups and the lamb were particular highlights.

Great environment on a warm Saturday night, staff are friendly and the doors opens up to the street... but I was so disappointed in the food! It was overpriced and the proportions were ridiculously small. There are plenty better modern Asian fusion eateries in Melbourne, even in Windsor, I wouldn't waste my $$ here. Also- don't get the pork dumplings, they are weirdly over salted on top, I wanted to brush the salt off!

I don’t often write ratings but feel compelled to do so after such exceptional service we received last night. Thank you to the lovely kiwi blonde lady who ensured we had a great flow of food and drinks and found a seat for us when everywhere else we tried in chapel st was less than accommodating. If only every restaurant has staff as friendly and attentive as her. The restaurant was very busy but we never felt we had to wait for anything. <br/>The food was delicious too! The pork belly was the highlight and the Easy Tiger cocktail was the best I’ve had in a long time.

Interesting place. Came here on a quiet afternoon and the owner was super helpful and friendly. Had some wine and a number of small dishes all very tasty. Only downside servings were very small.

Located at the less busy end of Chapel st, most people would not notice about this place. Went with a group of friends, we shared 4 mains. My favourite was burmese lamb and beef. However pork belly skin was not crispy. Panko chicken got nice flavour but I think the size of chicken pieces were too big, almost taste like roasted chicken instead of fried as not enough panko to cover. For dessert, I like durian brulee, even my friend who is not a fan of durian like me enjoying this dish. We however were not impressed with the pandan panacotta as we did not taste pandan at all. Its a dimly lit restaurant (too dim for my liking, I barely see what i was eating) but has excellent and very friendly service. It's worth checking out especially with Entertainment book discount.
Plummy Loves Yummy
Average!<br/><br/>Look... if you're on chapel and have an abundance of restaurants to choose from... borderline ok food. <br/><br/>Good dumplings but over priced. <br/><br/>Followed by<br/><br/>Very fatty heavy mains...<br/>The pork belly has nothing on the rivals.<br/>Lamb curry- found the flavours a little too intense and overpowering,I.e if I wanted a mouth full of cinnamon I could do that at home. <br/><br/>Nothings to shout about. A bit boring. Apologies.<br/><br/>

Susie Wong's service was very friendly, but the food was quite overpriced for what it was. I don't think I've ever spent $28 on a beef massaman curry along with $5 white rice before but that's the reality at Susie Wong. The taste was delicious, don't get me wrong, but I don't think it's quite worth it for dishes that would be served more authentically at cheaper places.
Foodholic
Food was very blend and overpriced. Ordered two main dishes and one entree here but all dishes we ordered were had no taste and no flavour. disappointed and never coming back. Only good thing was staffs were very friendly and attentive.

I’m not sure about the rest of the world, but in Melbourne Asian Fusion is all the rage at the moment. There’s a new fusion restaurant popping up every week. Some are so popular that you could be waiting a few hours to get a table. Down the Windsor end, just near the entrance of Chapel Street from the Princes Highway, you’ll find a little restaurant all on it lonesome — an underrated Asian Fusion restaurant called Susie Wong’s.
Fleur
Oh thank goodness, a Chapel St diner that serves value for money deliciousness, with amazing customer service and that you don't have to wait three hours for, only to find you can't actually hear your partner speak. Susie Wong has the goods, is bursting with happy friendly vibes and great food. Tried the rockling and chicken wing appetizers, then pork belly and lamb curry mains. Lovely fluffy coconut rice. Would have loved to try to market fish of salmon, but alas dining in a party of two meant no room in our tums. Very generous serves. The manager is a gem, I'm sure you get the same welcome if you pop into her place on a Saturday night. A must try for the locals.

Too many restaurant these days do not understand the importance of first impressions. The hostess at this place is nothing short of amazing. After learning this was our first time (after several previous attempts to book at this place), the hostess, Kate, gave us her undivided attention. No pretentiousness, no "I'm better than you", Kate sat out table and engaged with us as if we had know each other for years. <br/>The food here is nothing short of fantastic and Kate takes your overall experience to a whole new level. <br/><br/>A new regular for me. <br/>A must try for anyone who lives around the area.

We rarely walk past the Union Hotel when deciding where to eat on Chapel St. and are glad that we ventured a bit further to visit Susie.  Tasty treats and great food combinations await which are served with a heads-up that doggie-bags are available.  Yep, the servings are large but don't detract from fabulous flavours.  The knockouts for us were the Burmese Lamb & Panko Chicken.  The staff just need to relax a bit so that we don't have three waitresses visit repeatedly - one per table, please.

Amazing great food went here with friends everyone loved it staff amazingly friendly would recommend to anyone great cocktails great food .....

Susie Wong’s yum cha offers a tasty selection of Asian-fusion flavours that are quite different to what you would expect from a traditional Chinese yum cha. With excellent service, it is a warm and welcoming space – ideal for sharing with friends over a few drinks.

Located at the entrance of Melbourne’s popular Chapel Street (from Dandenong Road side), is this South-East Asian inspired eatery. This small gem has a very trendy Asian interior which matches well with the neighborhood. I started off with the Oxtail dumplings (Ox Tail, Sarsparilla and Shichimi Pepper with Oxtail Jus), which manages to harmonize various elements with beautifully luscious meat. These aromatic signature bite-size savories pack a flavor punch with every bite!

Last night, a friend & I dined at Suzie Wong.  I've walked past SW many times and never stopped in, but what a missed opportunity; SW is a little oasis in the desert!  From the minute we walked in the door, the service staff were friendly and welcoming.  The décor was fabulous, the music carefully chosen so as not to kill conversation and the food was to die for!!!  Highly recommend the 8 course banquet & definitely don't go past the cocktails! :P

Went here for a casual dinner on a Wednesday night. The decor is very nice and the female waiter could not have been nicer and more attentive. <br/><br/>The food on the menu looks really nice with great combination of flavours unfortunately the description does not match the reality as while all the ingredients are there the dishes (4 in total) all were pretty flavourless. Chef needs to boost the flavour and spice especially in the curries.

The Emerson has collaborated with nearby eatery Susie Wong to offer 'Winter in Asia', a six week-long series featuring a south-east Asian and Japanese inspired menu to The Emerson Rooftop. The space has been morphed into an Eastern wonderland, strung with festive lanterns, blossom, floral arrangements and silk draping.

Great banquet menu on paper. Rather tasteless on plate. Lacked basic seasoning and that little bit of 'something'.<br/>Waited 3/4 of an hour for our cocktails... Then when served, only 2 out of four came and had to wait another 10 for the other 2 cocktails. Not a good start.<br/>They were clearly under staffed, when we asked where our drinks were, were told by 2 staff that "it's a Saturday, we're very busy/under the pump.... Bear with us". That's not really a good excuse. We were there for close to three hours, as service was randomly staggered, often feeling like we'd been forgotten and had to return a dish as it was uncooked (dumplings). Staff member didn't know what type of dumpling she was serving us either, when we asked "it's either vegetarian or pork" !<br/>Anyway. Clear I'm disappointed. And expensive for nothing 'wow'.<br/>Mr Miyagi or Saigon Sally for these flavors and service done well :)

Disappointing. Tried the chefs selection (which they couldn't manage to do GF so 1 of our party had to order independently - and then it was almost entirely GF anyway!) and the food was minimal, took forever to arrive and was a little more than tasteless. Service was quirky but overall unhelpful and bordering on rude. Incredibly disappointed.

My fifth visit-and it is better all the time. <br/>Enjoy the big menu - and specials. Tonight we enjoyed Cambodian lamb curry and fab sorbets ( passion fruit outstanding)

Amongst the plethera of asian restaraunts on chapel, this one is up there. Though the plates are a tiny bit pricey in my opinion, they do make up for that in taste. I've had two experiences with service, one great, the other not so great, however it wouldn't stop me going back.

Came to this place with a few friends the other night and the overall satisfaction was average. We started off with the lamb ribs and chicken wings to start which was really delicious (the sauce for the wings have a kick). The mains were a goats rendang, massam curry and crispy pork. The crispy pork was really delicious. Better than chin chins crispy pork. However, the service really let this place down. First, I noticed our main meals were ready to be served on the counter under the warming lifts, but the waitresses walked passed it multiple times and eventually brought it to us. It was about 10mins of our food sitting there. The food was warm/cold when it came to us. In addition, my question was , how hard is it to get rice? I asked for extra rice and the last said she would get it topped up straight away. 10mins later nothing had happened. So I asked the other waitress for it and she said she would check. She went to the backs and it took less than a minute for more rice to come up. So they had completely forgotten our order (something simple and easy) which makes me think this joint needs new service staff. Wouldn't not be going back again unless the service improves.

SHOCKING service..... Hardly anyone in the restaurant and the mains took 40 mins.<br/>Rude defensive answers to very innocent questions.<br/>Drinks are better at the bar connected to the TAB.<br/><br/>Give this one  a miss

Had dinner here last Saturday night. On arrival was informed that they had no record of my booking that I had made 4-5 days earlier, but luckily they managed to find a table for two! Service was great - Italian (I think!) waiter was very chatty and attentive throughout the meal. Cocktails we're yum - the Susie Wong was refreshing and had the just the right amount of sweetness. We felt that the dishes were quite generous in size and reflected the price well. Favourite dish was the spicy red braised chicken with kimchi - although I have to admit that the description was very misleading as the chicken is actually crispy skinned, there was really no spice to it at all, and whilst I'm no Asian expert I'm pretty sure the vegetable wasn't kimchi but rather choy sum or gai lab. So not at all what we were expecting but was still truly delicious and the clear stand out of the night. School prawns were tasty although could have done with a larger portion of dipping sauce. Thai fish cakes had great flavour. The biggest disappointment were the sides that we ordered: 1) The Vietnamese herb salad - I was expecting a vibrant green salad filled with Vietnamese mint, basil etc it was predominantly made of bean shoots and carrots with minimal herbs in it, the dressing was lacklustre (I'm used to Vietnamese sweet/sour dressings that pack a punch) and it was identical to the side salad served with the fish cakes; and 2) Stir fried eggplant - again, it just lacked a big punch of flavour and it needed some sauce as was a little on the dry side. But overall an enjoyable night and I would give it another go.

Every bite of every dish was simply delicious. <br/><br/>We couldn't get in at Mr Miyagi down the road so walked up here and we're very lucky to score a bar table. <br/><br/>We tried the oxtail dumplings, tempura rockling, school prawns, the Massamam curry and finally the chocolate fondant. <br/><br/>Wow, wow, wow. The Melbourne food scene is tough, the Chapel St food scene is even tougher. Susie Wong nails it! <br/><br/>The only minor issue is that service was a tad scatty but they were entirely aware of this (impressive given that there were only 3 wait staff during a totally full night) and very quickly offered up some complimentary wine. <br/><br/>Hooray. The Melbourne food scene good learn from this place!

Yum! The crispy prawns with the pickled nahm jim were delicious and very moreish. The lamb ribs and Burmese curry were good - an interesting mix of subtle flavours and spices. The only problem was the serves are quite small so you're left wanting more. A bit on the pricey side, but the menu is different and I would probably go back again if in the area to try the other dishes. Would be good if the lights weren't so dim so the menu was easier to read...

Had an amazing meal - the menu is really interesting at Suzie Wong. Started with the oxtail dumplings, the deep fried cuttlefish, lamb ribs and the goat curry and it was all fantastic. The durian brulee was really odd - I think some people would love it and others hate it. I just found the flavor really strange.
The Weekly Review
We like the atmosphere, the warm-hearted staff and the keenly priced food, which contains Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian influences. The menu is all about flashy flavours and clever textures, with some unusual ingredients and even-handed technique.
Reception
Superb. Amazing restaurant. Food is unbelievably good here. Right on the edge of Windsor and best of all, you can book a table. The scallop and goji berry dumplings, massaman curry, kimchi chicken all favourites as well as the crab fried rice. Charming service. Probably the best asian restaurant in Windsor. Quite underrated in my book - Highly recommended

This spot has settled in nicely at the Windsor End of Chapel St. The interior is striking and sets the scene perfectly for a relaxed dinner and drinks. In terms of their menu, there is something for everyone. Our table of 5 opted to share a range of dishes and I would recommend you do the same. There were many highlights with beef cheek, cuttlefish and massamum curry all top picks. The service out of the open kitchen is very efficient and we were never left wanting for our next dish. They have a specialist cocktail menu too that complements the Asian twist of the menu. <br/>In a area that is rich with options for dinner, Suzi Wongs holds its head very high and should be on your priority list for a feed!

Food is all super tasty, fresh & amazing!. Great variety on the menu. We had a good bash at the bite me, try me style menus and ordered the special of the day which was Moreton Bay Bug dumplings. 6 never had a glass of wine out of our hand (apx 4 bottles?) and the bill came to apx $90 each . That was after mains AND going back for another helping of bug dumplings and ribs.

Delicious food & fantastic service. Having read reviews previous to dining here, I was delighted that it exceeded expectations. Our every need was catered to by a very friendly, informative & professional waitress. The food and wine was all delicious. I can't wait to return to try more food on the menu!

Don't understand the negative comments. A couple of dishes may have been ok but there were a few stand out dishes - beef ribs, mushroom salad and a special prawn & rice noodle dish. <br/><br/>Some great Flavours and clever ingredients. Bitter melon in the mushroom salad. <br/><br/>Service great and friendly. very fairly priced.

Don't think twice, give it a go !. The food, service and atmosphere could not be faulted. Not your standard Asian fare, but beautiful Asian flavours in interesting dishes. Great to share. The service was warm, friendly and very helpful. We ordered a few dishes, waited a while and ordered some more which was no problem, staff were patient and the pace was relaxing, didn't feel rushed to make food or drink decisions as sometimes happens in the more well known alternatives nearby, yet never were left waiting. A great night out and we'll be back. Good value too.

SUSIE WONG WINS APPLAUSE. My partner and I have been looking forward to dining at Susie's for some time. Well Susie gets the gong for wonderful polite, and attentive service along with fresh and delicious food that had been prepared with thought. <br/>No try hards here, they are the real deal. Awesome and can't wait to return. We wish the owners all the very best and hope this gem of a restaurant keeps on shining for a long time to come. <br/>John & Mark

Roll on Summer!. I dined here with a friend this week at Susie Wong’s, I had been once before and was looking forward to trying the new menu. We were seated quickly by a handsome young man when we arrived at 6pm to an empty restaurant, not that I find that off putting when dining so early, but by the time we left, 2 hrs later the restaurant was full. <br/>Our meal got under way with a smart little starter, a relish of some sort on top of a thinly sliced disc of pineapple.. a succulent little number & very good start to the meal, I thought if they could keep these flavours up for the rest of the evening....we were going to be in for a treat!<br/>My friend, who‘s first time it was, asked the waiter to help us navigate through the menu, all recommendations were sound so we went with his suggestions and we were off and running.<br/><br/>The blackened cuttlefish arrived and was cooked perfectly, crispy, hot and melt in the mouth, satiating my craving for slightly naughty fried food!<br/>Next up was the Kingfish tartare on betel leaves, which was a beautifully presented light and delicate tartare that you scooped up with crispy betel leaves.<br/>The Lily bud, shitake & bamboo shoot dumplings, I have had before and are a favourite!<br/>For our last savoury course we went for the Fish special which was king fish fillet with a crust of chewy black rice in a fragrant and delectable curry sauce with a side of tangy and refreshing greens.... This dish was smashing, I could eat this over and over again!<br/><br/>Oh and the wine... My friend went for a Pinot Gris and I went for a recommendation, a little French Chablis, both so good we ordered the same again.<br/><br/>Lastly the sorbet trio to finish, very refreshing... But the coconut was out of this world!!! A seductive decadent little ball of silky smooth sorbet that you’ll want again and again.<br/><br/>Overall, we had a delicious meal, and left them a lovely tip, as our waiter was excellent, with my friend declaring that “she would be back”. Happy days!!!
Jay
That was a weird experience. The food was quite nice! But I'm fairly certain the waiter was drunk. Just a very strange meal...
Foodisgood
Appallingly bad service. I went to Susie Wong for dinner last night and was disgusted with the service and let down by the food. I ordered the lamb ribs which were 80% fatty bits and 20% meat. I did not enjoy them. The crab fried rice was NOT edible. It was so salty that my mouth burned.<br/><br/>Despite the food being average, the service is what was the most alarming. Here is an account of the evening...<br/><br/>We had a booking for 10 people, which my friend changed a few hours before to 8 people. We arrived, excited for our meal because we had heard great things. It took 10 minutes for anyone to notice us. We finally got seated and we were told, by an irritable and angry staff member, that we had not changed the booking from 10 to 8 (when in fact we had and he later admitted that his staff had not updated their information). We then waited for 15 minutes for menus while the waiter asked us at least 5 times if we wanted drinks, to the point that I felt rude not ordering any. <br/><br/>Our waiter proceeded for the next hour and a half to treat my friends and me (aged 23) like 5 year olds. He was rude and theatrical, mocking each and every one of us for a variety of different reasons. He was rude to me personally when I asked him for a knife. He stared at me and sarcastically asked, “don’t you know how to use chopsticks darling”. He also made fun of me for not placing my napkin on my lap and ridiculed me when I asked for another plate, asking me in a baby voice if I “made a mess of my first meal”. <br/><br/>He was incredibly rude to my friend who is a vegetarian. Over the hour that we were there he told her about 10 times to eat some meat. When she asked if he could recommend any vegetarian dishes he said “honey can’t you read?!” and walked off.<br/> <br/>Melbourne has a reputation for excellent restaurants and service. However, sadly this restaurant stands out as an exception. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone, of any age, unless they enjoy poor service and mediocre food.

Cold service. I also found the service terrible. Felt completely unwelcome and wanted to just get the hell out of there. Would not recommend it to anyone. Shame because the food was delicious
Foodalicious
I cannot begin to emphasize enough how poor the service was at my recent visit to Susie Wong. Never in my life have I been subject to such arrogant, patronizing and rude staff. Without going into detail on the events of the night, I have to say that regardless of the quality of the food, I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. I can only hope that the staff actually start to use manners and common courtesy when addressing customers, something that they currently don't believe to be necessary. Absolute fail of a restaurant.
Julie
Won't go wong here. The food is flavoursome, shareable and not too heavy. Our super fussy friend was speechless except when praising... A first:)<br/><br/>Lots of different tastes but complementary and not too super cheffy i.e. you don't leave here hungry if you have a few plates to sample what is on offer and it's not super $$$<br/><br/>It wasn't pumping when we arrived which raised some initial suspicions but filled up over the night . Actually could hear ourselves speak and could soak up the atmosphere rather than knock elbows with a stranger. That was nice for a change.<br/><br/>Staff were a little too attentive- could dial it down a notch but hey, better than being ignored which is what ive come to expect in many popular eateries.<br/><br/>Definitely will return to see how SW evolves ... suspect it's a slow burn rather than a hyped up flash in the pan. Definitely worth the trip to the quieter end of chapel away from the fadding crowd .
Triston Coombes
Terrible service. Food is overpriced. Premium prices for below premium food, or service for that matter.<br/><br/>Waitress started reading the nights specials, then stopped and said "Nothing. Just nothing! There is nothing because I can't read my own writing!"<br/><br/>Dishes we ordered weren't even delivered, to which the waitress told us she didn't put it through because she couldn't read her own handwriting!<br/><br/>We also told the waitress that we needed to be out by 7:30 and as we were the only table in the place thought this would be no issue! Our food arrived at 7:15 when we ordered at 6:30.<br/><br/>I wouldn't go here again. Ever.

Worst service average food. Very hyped and shocking service<br/>Food is below average and expensive for what you get<br/>I definitely will not eat at this sh!th*le again

Amazing food which was far outweighed by the terrible indifferent service...
Mel
Very disappointed. Meals are average in flavour but servings were so small that we ended up eating a kebab afterwards. Waitress was initially friendly but her attitude changed towards the end of the meal when she reminded us that we had been informed they needed the table back by 8:15pm. She became very abrupt and almost ushered us out. Was recommended the durian tart but it was 2 tiny thin slices of tart only. However, the combination with jasmine sorbet was delicious, I could have eaten 4 serves by myself!!

Dined tonight. Great food but the restaurant was so cold.

Food and service fantastic. Definitely be returning. Loved the blackened cuttlefish and the Fish with the Laska sauce.....

Absolutely amazing food and service. The best dumplings I've had! Love the creative menu and charismatic staff.

Brilliant. Brilliant food for $55ph option. fantastic service. will be back

Amazing service, fantastic food and the bartender makes a mean espresso martini with frangelico!! Will definitely be visiting again :)

Really unique, desert is a must - particularly the durian tart. The food we had was absolutely delicious, and was presented beautifully. My favourite was the goat curry, very unique, great curry flavours, the goat was tender and melt in your mouth. I also liked the dumplings. However, the must have is the amazing deserts. The durian tart with jasmin sorbet is literally to die for. The Kanom Babib is just as good. Yum Yum Yum. This is the kind of place you want to go back for more and more because it is just so different. Im excited to go back and try some more of the beautiful creations.

Nothing Special. With so many of these style of restaurants in Melbourne food has to be really good for us to return. Some dishes were above average but on the whole they were not. We had a fantastic Italian waiter that made the night fantastic with his humour and professionalism but we would not rush back for the food. We tried at least 15 different dishes and there were 6 people at our table and we all agreed that we would not return.

Delicious spur of the moment surprise. Walking in at 6.45, three of us were happily seated in a flash on Friday night. We'd never been before, and in fact had just run across the road to get to Susie Wong's as it was the first place we'd seen. A wonderfully competent and friendly waitress (maitre d' ?) was happy to pick for us as we'd asked, our only request that we be out in an hour for a cinema booking. <br/><br/>The kingfish sashimi served do it yourself style on lightly tempura-battered betel leaf was delightful - coconutty, creamy, and light on the crunchy leaf, which held it together for the 2.5 bites it took to demolish it. Followed up by a rich oxtail braise inside a dumpling and some cuminy, curryish crunchy lamb ribs. Mmmm. Off to a great start.<br/><br/>Some fluffy white rice and a thick but not heavy goat curry then a quick dessert of durian tart. Will definitely be back - when we're not in a hurry next time.

I think this place is pretty awesome. It steers clear of all the cliches delivering great flavours and the unexpected. Don't be put off by the idea of the Durian tart with coconut sorbet. I reckon the coconut sorbet here beats Longrain infact.
Mia
Great food, great service,. We had the kingfish - very fresh well flavoured kingfish however the betel leaves seemed to have been pre fried and a tad stale. <br/>We had all the dumplings , all very tasty and fresh. The oxtail dumplings were incredibly meaty and rich.<br/>The goat curry was tender and bursting with the flavours of a perfectly fresh homemade curry paste, the Milawa chicken was so succulent and well marinated , accompanied by a piquant side dish of kimchi pickles. the fried rice with crab was unbelievably good with actual chunks of crab you could taste, and the seasonal vegetables a great introduction to kohlrabi <br/>The highlight was the mushroom and bitter melon salad, a perfect mix of savoury, sweet, sour, crunchy.<br/>Could not fault the place.

Susie Wongs fantastic. Long lunch Sunday the set menu for 8 or more was right up there with the very best restaurants in Melbourne & Sydney. I will be telling all my London friends just go........

First thing everyone notices is decore. Simple, relaxed and comfortable is how I would describe Susie Wong. <br/>We couldn't choose between so many options so decided to do a 'chefs choice banquet'. We were presented with a range of incredible flavours and amazing service to match! I would absolutely recommend it to everyone!

Susie Wong gets it right. Great to have another good middle range restaurant in Windsor. LOVED the cuttlefish dish and the dumplings were a hit with the kids. A great local and worth a visit. Good professional hospo staff too - makes all the difference.

Amazing Modern Asian. Went there just after they opened, professional and helpful staff able to recommend, decided to follow every single recommendation, loved every single of them... Highlights were definitely scallops and ox tail dumplings, the lot enjoyed with a delicious valpolicella... Well done Susie Wong, will definitely be back for more!

We went for Saturday lunch with open minds and asked for advice from helpful staff as we made out choices.<br/>Everything we ordered was delicious with my personal favourite being the scallop starter.<br/>Reasonably priced for food which has a high end feel to it, I will definitely be returning.

We took a leap of faith and let the staff decide what we ate.<br/>Everything was amazing! I particularly enjoyed the crispy blackened cuttlefish and the kingfish tartare on crispy beetle leaf.<br/>The staff were friendly and attentive. The stream of food was quick and constant.<br/>Happy to make this a regular haunt.

Impressive fit-out, fun staff & great food. Standout dishes were the crispy burnt cuttlefish and the red curry lamb ribs.
