Review Lady Nelson's - Windsor

JMC
Amazing venue, steak, wine & service, truly cannot rate highly enough. We feel like family every time we dine!
Liv Sullivan
My friend is obsessed with Lady Nelson's so she took me one night and now I am obsessed. The steak was melt in your mouth perfect, the wine was on point due to the advice of staff and the extras we got complimented the entire meal (get the haloumi). The staff knew their stuff and were so attentive with suggestions. I absolutely love the look & feel of the place, makes me think I am in a hidden bar in New York. My next date night with the girls is going to be here.

An intimate setting with a brilliant wine selection. Dinner was absolutely outstanding at Lady Nelson’s. The steaks were cooked to perfection paired with two different sauces. If you are a steak lover I would highly recommend adding this place to your list.

Wow - you hardly ever see a place with mainly 5 star reviews - now I know why. Met Cat and Rick - husband and wife owners, who are amazing hosts (I use hosts as that is how you feel). Amazing selection of wines that are all by the glass. Very knowledge in web, wine tasting notes and selection of wine depending on your mood or taste palette. Wine selection is consistently changing depending on what they have, which means it is always a different experience! My visit was only for a late night wine with a friend, that was complemented with a fine selection of meat and cheeses arranged to take us on a journey. We had decided to sit outside, during our stay we overheard the conversation of a group passing who had stopped out the front. One member of the group was pointing inside, telling the group this is one of the best steaks around! “You need to try them!!”. Nothing beats the passing opinion and recommendation to say this is a good place! Cool setup with the kitchen in the front window and plenty of seats. Will definitely be back to give the steaks a try! And maybe a wine or two. Make sure you visit here if your in the area!

I am not usually one to leave a negative review, however my partner and i didnt feel very welcome at this restaurant. While the food wasnt bad, the service wasnt up to standard. The young waiter rushed us, leaving the table before we were even finished ordering more than once, almost running away from us. He then returned to us interrupting our conversation multiple times without apologising, to confirm things in our order. We reminded him twice about the glass of wine we ordered with our steak. There is no shame in a waiter carrying a pen and paper.

Top spot. Good cocktails but great food. Olives were perfectly marinated and the haloumi with fig, heavenly. Our steaks were excellent cuts and cooked to perfection. Wine list is on the smaller side but the breadth of varieties more than adequate and excellent examples of each style. Well done guys!

Love heading down the road to Lady Nelson for Friday night after work drinks! The staff are super friendly and are always up for a friend's chat. There are great wines on the menu, especially a great selection of rose wine. They also have a great selection of small foods to share with friends. I'm told the steaks are great!! See you again!

Looking at the 5-star reviews we thought we had to give Lady Nelson's a try. We are so glad we did! The steak was perfect - definitely the best I've tasted. The staff were so friendly and helped us with a perfectly paired wine for the delicious steak. We are definitely aiming to be regulars here.

Awesome joint. Couldn’t recommend it more for a steak on Chapel street. Great wine list, and amazing staff.

The service was incredible, the food delicious and the wine outstanding! Kat and Rick were so welcoming and passionate, they couldn't wait to take us on a journey of wine. A great little place to discover!
Leah Mahtani
My favourite local! Kat and Rick have great recommendations for wine and the dough balls are super yum. Best is the popcorn - a secret recipe apparently!
Rachel Arlidge
Really special establishment. I travel alone for work and each time I visit the owners Kat and Rick make me feel welcome. I sit at the bar and get to chat to locals while being able to try wine by the glass. Kat either match's them to the fantastic cheese, a perfectly cooked steak or even my mood. You can not but enjoy the passion and hospitality. If you are considering a visit, do not hesitate. There also seem to be quite a few people on first dates when I visit, the high stool tables for two seem to be a hit.
Melissa Cooper
Chicken Liver Parfait and Earl Grey Martini's - heaven! Amazing wine list and wonderful service, always feel like you're sitting in Kat and Rick's living room.
Sam Monaghan
One of my favourite places to drink in Melbourne. An amazing wine list compliments incredibly friendly service, if you're there late enough, the staff might just join you for a drink!
Stephen Marrs
If you haven't been - then go. You will struggle to find more engaging owners, with such an amazing and interesting wine list anywhere. Let them take you on a journey...
Su Reardon
Amazing wine, food and hospitality. Love the owners and their passion for great food and wine. What a great experience!
Shaun Perry
Great people & great food, it's as simple as that!
Tim Quick
Awesome selection of wines picked by highly knowledgeable, accomodating and friendly staff. A great bar for both the wine-curious and the more experienced palettes. Treat yourself!

Absolutely great service and drinks. I would recommend this place highly to friends.

We've now been to Lady Nelson's three times and each time has been more magnificent than the last. Kat and Rick put so much love into their work whether it's through their delicious cocktail, well thought out wine list, or their heart warming food. This is now a special place for us to come to, and we always look forward to coming back again.

Love it! Staff, wine, vibe, cosy! Will be coming back

Excellent wine. Excellent nibbles. Excellent staff. Excellent.

Loving the new owners! Ric and Kat, sounds like there's some great, exciting things to come from this place (cocktails made with love and babies tears ;) ) Thanks for a great night guys we'll see you again soon to sample all the delicious new food.

Talk to the bar keep before you order. He knows the best wines.

Nick Woolard and his team are producing some big hitting dishes. Superb preparation supported by fantastic flavours and contrasts means Kid Boston should be on top of your list of "must do" places. The Pigs Head Croquettes and the Eggplant with Roasted Tomatoes are absolute standouts.
Nathan Witherby
We stopped into kid Boston for dinner on our trip to Melbourne, everything about the place was amazing. Such a relaxed atmosphere, the staff were excellent and the meals were amazing. Definitely a place I would recommend and we will be back next time. Well done to all the staff at kid Boston :)

I found Lady N’s almost 2 years ago now and have never had anything but the best experience. Exceptional food, fab wines and wonderful hosts. One of my favourite eateries ever - it even travels well as a takeaway during lockdown!

Awesome dinner, amazing 300g Scotch Fillet and wine to match. Really amazing value too.,,

Frites are also delicious and interesting wine selection. Will definitely be back!

Very Good place for steak. Went there on Valentine’s Day - the restaurant was extremely busy however they have kept the good food quality and friendly customer service. We ordered 600g rib eye medium rare - the steak was perfectly cooked, went well with red wine sauce. Fries was crunchy. Plus the price was reasonable.

Where do I start?! My bf and I found Lady Nelson's through a google search for a good steak and wine place. The reviews do not lie! The service is amazing, the steak is faultless, the wine is delicious, I even rate the toilets! (If you want to know what I mean you will have to check it out for yourself). We were greeted on arrival and talked through the menu, we couldn't chose which wine so they let us taste a couple and chose a pinot noir which matched perfectly with our choice of steaks (porterhouse and scotch fillet for me). We were served dough balls and butter at the start, omg these are delicious and you should order lots. Then the steak arrived and it was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender and very flavoursome. Two sauces come with the steak and these are very good too. It was Chris's birthday and when we arrived I asked to have a candle on the dessert and then after dinner Kat sang Happy Birthday for him. The sticky date cake was light and served with vanilla ice-cream. Yum yum yum. Kat and Rick were exceptional hosts and made us feel at home in Windsor. We will be back!

Our new go to for steak night. Perfectly cooked steak, fries and dough bites were a great little bonus. Friendly service and faultless food. Thanks for a wonderful night

Such a nice dinner !! Probably the best I had in the last months. I was looking for a nice place to have dinner around chapel street...when I was near to give myself up cause all the good restaurants were full I found this little restaurant. Wine and steak..., perfect combination. I ordered as entree some cheese and a beer while I was looking at the menu.
I had a porterhouse steak with salad. The steak was perfectly cooked and the two sauces which come with the steak were absolutely delicious. Also , the salad was perfectly seasoned and extremely fresh.
Additionally , before having the steak they gave me to try two little breads with garlic butter....wow!! It was so so good I should’ve ordered it. Next time I’ll order double portion of those ! About the wine...they have some good stuff form Barossa valley that you have to try .
Well done guys . I really enjoyed my dinner .
Friendly customer service .! I’ll be back !

After walking the streets of Windsor trying to decide what to eat, we came across Lady Nielsen and what a great decision this turned out to be. Ordered the scotch fillet and it was cooked to perfection. A great meal, great staff and great vibe. Will def be back here!
KathyK
Honestly, one of the best steaks I've ever eaten! Their petite 150g eye fillet was the perfect size and cooked to perfection and comes with fries and delicious sauces.

waitress has lost weight. :-) Chef still cooks up a storm. Wine selection A1 I will be back for the chef. The waitress is married, my wife would disapprove, even though she gives better service than flower drum

Kat and Rick are superb hosts! A treasure in our local Windsor Zoo! The wine list is current and always something new to taste -nothing quite like the feeling of home when visiting Lady Nelson’s!

I had high hopes, a friend suggested I go to Lady Nelson, so I write this review with apprehension as it might be a once off, I found the sommelier was less than impressive with the knowledge of their range, there isn't many places in Melbourne that have or at least boasts an extensive international range, Lady Nelson in my opinion should have invested more in their staff to educate them about the wines, as having them and not being able to be told about them is not a good outcome for a customer.
Rebecca
Great wine selection but limited menu - prob won't go if I'm super hungry but definitely go back for a drink! Decor quite nice and staff friendly

Lady Nelson get’s lost in the mix that is chapel street, you have to look really hard to find her otherwise you could walk straight past unknowingly. Lady Nelson is a wine bar serving a variety of over 40 wines from various countries by the glass. The decor inside makes it feel like you’ve stepped into a wine cellar in Italy with sweet soul music drifting throughout.

Luck be a lady. The original Lady Nelson was a success de scandale - the wife of an elderly lord who feel madly in love with the dashing Horatio Nelson. The super cool Windsor bar named for her (previously Kid Boston) has plenty of the same spirit, plus interesting wines, a sunny courtyard and chilled but capable staff. Three excellent wines and a cheese trio were an ideal end to a weekend afternoon - and all for less than $20 each.

Line up ladies and gentlemen!
Sass
Great selection of wines by the glass and great cocktails. A lovely selection of food to compliment a quiet drink or two. Kat and Rick are great hosts!

Trying to find a place to have a quiet drink on a Saturday night in chapel st is not easy. This place however offered just that. Complimentary snacks with my cocktail and great service means I'll be visiting here again soon.
Eat Play Love Travel
Given I drink wine like it’s water, the addition of a wine bar to Chapel Street brings me a bucket of happiness. With a hard-to-choose-from wine list, some of the friendliest staff on the strip and little snack-type nibblettes, Lady Nelson’s Wine + Kitchen is the perfect place for a girls catch-up.

What a little gem! Stopped by here for a quick drink last night and I was planning my next visit by the time I left. Nothing beats amazing service and these guys have it in spades. I was undecided on a vino and was given a couple to sample which is rarely seen. I can't comment on the food but will be back soon to try.
Kate
This place is great - excellent wine list with plenty of unique choices. Best part is the service; the team are incredibly knowledgeable and engaging. The perfect balance of advice and leaving you to make your own decisions. It isn't the place for you if you're after a big meal but it certainly has some tasty bites. One of Chapel street's finest.
The Baroness Of Melbourne
There’s no greater sign of love than to name a wine bar after your beloved, and so Lady Nelson’s emerged on busy Chapel St in popular Windsor when Rick Nelson named this charming spot after his wine loving wife Kat.
Sean Barry
We had a great evening sitting at the bar, being introduced to some interesting wines and great cocktails courtesy of Kat. We also loved the bar snacks on offer - the chicken meatball sauce is a knock out.

Do yourself a favour, head down to Lady Nelson's the next time you want a drink in a relaxed and welcoming place.

Weeknight drinks at this new classy wine bar. Love the varied wine list with plenty of "by the glass" options from around the world so you can try a few!

Absolutely top notch service, very attentive, friendly and prompt. Got some free spicy Bhuja/Bombay mix to go with the wine.

Sadly I was dedicated to doing this crazy thing called feb-fast whereby I voluntarily give up alcohol for a month. The staff were able to accommodate this by offering some delicious mocktails. I tried the Bellini mocktails. It was delicious, but missing something.... prosecco (haha- it actually was delicious though).

Will return for wine... And perhaps some food.

If you want the perfect place to catch up with friends, enjoy an amazing selection of wine (mostly by the glass) and compliment it with a tasty section of food - Lady Nelsons Wine Bar is the place to try. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and really helpful. The new decor and garden bar was the perfect place for my special night out. Thank you Kat and Rick. Looking forward to popping in again next time I am in Melbourne.

This place is great, I felt like I was at dinner at a friend's place. The staff were so friendly, the place was clean and comfortable. We sat in the courtyard which provided a welcome relief from noisy Chapel Street and enjoyed a glass of red from Italy which we were told would go perfectly with the chorizo we had chosen - and they were right!
Tim Quick
Fantastic all round experience with friendly and highly knowledgeable staff. Perfect environment for trying a few new wines from a lengthy list (and most can be by the glass!).

Not pretentious like some wine bars can be; just friendly service and wines from all over the world. Visit this place as a matter of urgency!

Great service and wine selection. You MUST try Ricks meatballs and Kat makes the best espresso martini on chapel street. It's nice and classy as well as laid back :)

This is a brilliant new bar on Chapel St; amazing food and wine with a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. An absolute must. Ask for Rick's Special!
Gracie
New owners, new name, fabulous new look. Absolutely loved the stylish, state of the art wine rack. This is my new 'go to' wine bar for after work drinks and good food. Loved the courtyard, away from road noise and is the perfect sun trap for Saturday Sippers.
Just Good Food
What an amazing venue! Food, wine and service 10/10!

Found this great new place on Chapel street. Great decor - fresh and a relaxed courtyard tucked away out back. Was looking for a few bites to eat and let owner Rick surprise me with a menu sampler - just divine. Started off with the haloumi with fig syrup - yum! Then came the curry chicken slider which was seriously delicious. Topped off with homely meatballs and crunchy bread. Kat kept me entertained at the bar and I had ample choices to pick from their awesome drinks menu. Left truly satisfied and eager to pop back. A must if you are in the area!

A friend of mine told me about Lady Nelson's, so I thought that I'd pop in and check it out. OMG the pan fried haloumi was out of this world. I also had an espresso martini to end the night. This place is a great great spot to start or end a night out.

Came looking for Kid Boston and found that it had been replaced by Lady Nelson's Wine + Kitchen. At first I was a bit skeptical, but have to say that I'm a new convert. Not only did they still have my favourite watermelon and rosemary martini (made perfectly) but my husband (aka the wine snob) was ridiculously happy that the venue had changed. Let's just say that I ended up having to drive as the wine snob happily worked his way through their rather large wine list. We'll definitely be back, but without the car next time.

Finally a wine bar on Chapel St, it's been long overdue. Just went through the wine list (over 50 wines and most of them by the glass) and was told that there's more to come over the next few weeks. I've just had a couple of glasses of a great Bordeaux, followed up by the best Espresso Martini I've ever had!! I say yes to the new lady in town.
David Clarke
Chapel St on a Saturday night can be a crazy place, but I found this little gem in all the madness. I walked in and found out that Lady Nelson had more than 50 wines from locations all over the globe. I settled on a cheeky South African Chenin Blanc with a couple of wonderful small bites (Haloumi in Fig syrup, Thai Chicken Curry slider, and a loaded cheese board, all were winners), I only wished that my mobile hadn't died or I'd have uploaded photos.

The guys that run the place showed a level of service that I haven't seen on Chapel St in years, well done and thank you.
I'll definitely be coming back for more wines and good times.

Great find, stumbled upon it in Windsor. I think it has one of the best wine lists by the glass in Melbourne - reasonably priced and great wines with a good selection of Aussie & old world. Intimate space and finally a place on Chapel St with the right atmosphere for a good wine and chat. I look forward to sampling through their every growing selection of wines!
