Review The Thai On Chapel - Windsor

Fabian Yanez
Great little Thai place on chapel street. It’s great value for money, nothing fancy but excellent for a casual night out. Everything I’ve tasted so far has been good! BYO makes it even greater value as well.
Mark Caval
The place was quite busy but the service was still really fast and friendly. The menu had a lot of pictures so it was easy to pick your meal and the food was very well priced. The food also tasted really good, we will be back again.

My first Google review because the food was spectacular in had to say so. Tom yum Chicken was exactly the same as Thailand, so authentic. The best I’ve ever had here in 20 years, Plus the pork dish with noodles, crispy noodles, pork mince and pork balls was absolutely out of this world and we only had take away. I’ll be back to eat in

This by far, is my favorite Thai restaurant. Every dish is perfectly cooked and seasoned! I can highly recommend the crispy pork and the special spicy sashimi prawns. Never have i left with out a smile on my face and a happy tummy.... definitely a must try, great value, great portions and great flavors.

One of my favourite Thai restaurants in this country. Even during lockdown as takeaway, they manage to create the perfect Friday night dinner. Woke up craving it and annoyed I don't have leftovers.
Jeff
Great place for dinner a large variety of Asian food so many to choose at reasonable prices they have a robot delivering food to some tables which is pretty cool 😎
Barry Cairns
This was a favourite of mine. But, have just had a massively disappointing experience here. It's hard to describe how little they care when they stuff things up. Ordered 3 starters and 4 mains...2 mains arrived then later 2 starters...then another (terrible duck) main some point later. The rest of the order was missing in action. When followed up, there was zero apology and zero cares given. Ultimately they considered it reasonable to charge for the food received with zero attempt at service recovery. When I asked if there was a manager I could speak to I got a shrug and was told to complain on Google...so here I am. I appreciate things can go wrong, but the attitude was unforgivable. Even after all that, they asked us to pay by bank transfer! Bank transfer! When did you ever go to a restaurant and pay by bank transfer!? You lost 5 customers tonight who will never come again.
Tracy-Anne Collins
Super fresh ingredients, really great quality food, reasonable prices and great service. Nice for either dine in or takeaway, and there’s a robot that brings your food which is fun too. 10/10 can’t fault it.
Troy Hughes
The food here is amazing: You must try the gorgeous little "pancakes" but make sure you order them when you arrive to ensure they arrive during the main meal as they take a while to make, but, are well worth the wait. the food and service is fantastic!
Claire Berry
I thought the food was great but the service was very slow, they seated me at a little table that had a little outdoor chair because the normal chairs were too big for the table which was not comfortable for an evening meal at all, even tho other tables for two were available, and the waitress who brought out my entree & main just put the plates down as she was passing & so had her back to me - since I had no cutlery for my main, this was just really bad service. I would get takeaways next time but as there's lots of other great places, that won't be often if at all!
Jules Teo
Authentic, tasty Thai food. Had the pork offal noodle soup which was amazing. Great Pad See Yiew. Friendly staff.
Mike Gill
The food here was excellent and as close to Thailand as I have had away from there! It was also very well priced and the service also was very good. If I do have any complaint it would be the size of the spring roll starters, they were so small that it was impossible for them to have any filling. I give 5 stars still as we all really enjoyed our experience here and will be back.

Good service and good food cozy comfortable and authentic thai cuisine
Lucy Pichaya
Always happy with their food.Great food ,nice service. Real Thai taste .
Minh La
Real authentic Thai street food ,friendly service, just can't resist to order the pork belly and the soft shell crab every visit .the prices are on the lower end of all the Thai restaurants in the surrounding suburb.

The food was so tasty, the staff was lovely! The food was in good portions and the music was lovely, pretty authentic aswell :)
Anthony Newton
Some of the best Thai food I've had. Would highly reccomend it. The only thing I can fault it for is they need a bigger selection of beers.
ML Benjamin
This is my favourite Thai for Penang Beef amazing, Singha on tap is great and service very good

Chilly Friday night basking in the brisk air of Windsor, Melbourne, unsure of where we wanted to dine (for the first time post-covid), we thought hey! Why don’t we try the Thai on Chapel 😊 Thankfully we managed to find parking in double qwick time thanks to some expert skrt skrting and sublime parallel parking making it just in time for a 6:30pm time slot. We were greeted with cozy smiles at the door and were whisked away to our table with bottled water present upon arrival. The menu was extensive and contained a vast array of options, similarly to United’s attack at the moment with Greenwood, Martial, Rashford leading the line and Bruno, Pogba and Fred anchoring the midfield 🤩 Our entrees included some delish little nibbles: veggie spring rolls, the crispy salt and pepper squid, lemon prawns (personal fav) and a side of fried wontons 😍 service was swift and friendly which certainly made our first night out a great one! Cashew chicken, Massaman beef and a side of crispy pork fried rice for mains were all definite winners in our eyes! Overall a very nice dinner with flawless service! Can’t wait to try some other options on their menu 😋

This is my new favourite Thai spot in the area. Their selection is not just affordable and absolutely delicious but also much more diverse than other places around. The fried egg salad is really interesting and fresh with a spicy and sour dressing. The rich massaman curry could be a bit heavier on the tofu but is otherwise amazing. But it's the creamy coconut pancakes that really blew me away. The serve of nine is large for $10 and is one of the best things I've eaten in a while, each bite better than the last. Only negative is that the delivery took ages, but not sure if that's the fault of the restaurant or DoorDash.
Jade Holland
Very disappointing. Our delivered food turned up and had spilled all throughout the bag. It was swimming at the bottom of the plastic bag. We rang the restaurant and it was hard to communicate because their English was poor. But they really didn’t care and did nothing about it. We won’t go back again. Obviously mistakes happen, but it’s how they didn’t deal with it that has decided our boycott.

Went with my girls on a weekend. Ordered few dishes they were all really tasty. Love the pad Thai here.
Isabella
It was a windy and freezing night and I got here for dinner. Staff was really nice. I ordered one serve of tom yum with tofu and veggies and one bowl of steamed rice aside while my friend got a beef pad thai for him. Food was awesome, tasty and hot. The restaurant was so warm and we really enjoyed the meal. Highly recommend for Thai cuisine!!! Definitely coming back with friends!!!
GabbieFood
No doubt best Thai food ever tasted in Melbourne. My favourite is the prawns skewers and theThai green Curry. Awesome authentic Thai food. Highly recommended
JustCruizing
BYO restaurant is always highly desired to drink over some good goss with mates for a long overdue catch up. Great occasion for it and the food was good enough to distract everyone on the table as each person would eagerly offer everyone to taste their meal. Nothing super special with the restaurant setting but food was tasty. Good for a date night too.
Nomnomlinda
We had dinner here last night. The food was delicious. The massaman was the winner. My daughter had the fried rice and loved it.
We weren't hungry enough for entree but saw some dishes come out and they looked great.
Careful when booking through zomato as they didn't have our booking when we arrived, but gave us a table straightway.
Cmstrattonsmith
We ordered three meals, the first came out cold after a 30 minute wait (one of us had to eat alone) we waited another hour for the other meals asked the waiters many times where they were. Finally the food arrived but one of us had eaten 45 minutes ago. Left very disappointed. Also the tables were sticky. Would not recommend.
SC
Booked our table through Zomato which was quick and easy.
We have ordered pad Thai and beef massaman. Food is little bit on the sweet side
This place seems quite busy during weekends.
Kirsty Haggerty
This is probably one of the best Thai food places in Melbourne. I must recommend the prawns skewers with lemon, coconut and chilli, chicken skewers, green thai curry, coconut rice and roti. Fantastic authentic Thai food. Also available on UberEats.
Danica Tanica
Perfect setting outside on a warm night -- amazing menu, particularly the Red Curry. Service was a bit slow (wasn't overly busy) but the food is awesome!

My partner and I had been regulars at The Thai on Chappel for many years . Two weeks ago we both got severe foof poisoning after we ate there.
We noticed the hygeine had lapsed the last few time we went. We will never go back. Very dissapointing. Buyer beware!
Notafoodie
I would normally give 4 stars for the food at the Thai, however they have really let me down this time. Their service has always been an issue. They are very popular and extremely under staffed. We have walked out of there twice now because we had to wait over 40 mins for couple of simple stirfry dishes. Apart from that food is quite decent.
Greg Denny
I like this place and I’ve been coming for some time. However, mostly recently the wait times for food have been ridiculous. Today we walked out after waiting forty five minutes with no explanation. The foods good but maybe pick a quiet time to go.
Mimi
Some of the food is smaller than I expected from picture of menu ( soup and dessert) but all taste nice!!!! The Rice salad of coriander and spices was making good combination!!! It is not Western Thai taste so bit spicy for someone who don’t use to but this is true taste!!
Amelia South Yarra
My partner and I went here for an early dinner before going to the theatre last week. It was pretty quiet and the service was fast. Both of us were really happy with the freshness and flavours of the food. The staff seemed a bit flustered when we paid as they were also dealing with takeaway orders, but overall it was a nice night.
Renegade
There is a good reason the Thai on chapel has. 4.1 rating on Zomato. This is one of those places that definitely lives up to al the hype. The food the service and the ambience was all top notch. It’s a cosy low key restaurant that serves up delicious dishes at very reasonable prices. All the food we had was fresh, tasty and even though it was busy the wait wasn’t to long. The banoffee desert was also a nice way to finish off our meal. Highly recommended to others. 2 thumbs up.
Li Lisa
Have been here a few times. The food is always in good quality. Food arrived fast even when they were very busy. I really enjoyed the soup and grilled pork. Papaya salad and larb Gai were very nice as well. It is not easy to find a place on chapel street with reasonable price like the Thai on Chapel.
Mickjeggo69
The food is sub-par compared to other Thai restaurants within the general vicinity and beyond. Even when considering price, the staff are rude when special requests are made. ‘Prime seating’ appears to be always “reserved” however when you query the staff no timings can be provided.
Aju Kurien
Really enjoyed Thai on Chapel. Food is authentic, tasty and well priced. Staff were curteous. Ambience was good. Overall, a good experience.
Ames
The Thai on Chapel is a go to Friday dinner for us. It is decently priced and the grilled pork is my favourite item there. All of the stirfry dishes I've had have been pretty good and the dessert was soooo good with the coconut ice cream. The only thing I wouldnt order again is the small soup, its good but quite pricey for the small portion that you get.
Eatable Melbourne
Being a massive Thai food fan meant I was really excited to try this place on chapel street. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. The restaurant does not live up to it’s decent reviews which made me consider it to begin with. We were the first people in the restaurant yet it still took the waitress over 15 minutes to come over to take our order. The waitress was not overly friendly and didn’t go over any specials or make any conversation with us. The wait for the food wasn’t very long and we started with roti bread with peanut sauce. Usually I love this as a starter at any Thai restaurant. The roti bread here was good but the peanut sauce left a lot to be desired. For some reason it was very sweet which meant that the balance of flavors wasn’t there and we didn’t enjoy the dish. Next we had the vegetable spring rolls which were decent, however the filling was strange, it was mashed potato and mushroom from what I could tell which is unusual based on vegetable spring rolls I have had in the past. Lastly for main we ordered the massaman curry with coconut rice. When the dish came out I was a little perplexed as it looked like a deconstructed curry of sorts. There was barely any sauce, which is why you order a curry I believe, so that you can pour it all over your rice. The chunks of beef were large and very dry, and the pieces of carrot were bland. There were two pieces of pineapple and a few nuts sprinkled on top. The dish was extremely underwhelming and basically left me quoting Manu “where is the sauce?!”
We waited 35 minutes after finishing our meal for our plates to be cleared, which never happened so we got up and paid the bill.
Although the food was edible it left a lot to be desired. There is plenty of room for improvement and I hope the restaurant takes some feedback on board to improve the food and experience for its customers.

This place is so far our favourite Thai on this side of Melbourne. We've been there several times and the food has always been delicious. I really like their red prawn curry, it has so much flavour! They always have a variety of special dishes to choose from so you can't get bored with their menu.
Juerong Qiu
I have to say it's the best Thai restaurant I have ever eaten in Melbourne, but we waited nearly 30 mins to get the dishes we order. The coconut juice is so fresh and I really love the tom yam and pad Thai noodles. Will definitely go back again
DC
Busy little place with good Thai food. Quick service, not as spicy as you would expect. Would recommend if looking for average casual dining.
Dorcas Goh Xiu Hui
The fried rice with chicken filling was great and appetising but sadly the tom yam soup wasn't... it wasn't spicy at all (note: im not a spicy-food person) all i could taste was the milk and sourness.
Tony
Genuine Thai food - loved the barbecue pork belly, was a standout. Not fancy, but definitely my pick on Chapel Street. Genuine service and clean.
Picky
had Pad Thai a few times and very dissapointed. Good flavour but rice noodle texture was too hard to. probably one of the worst pad Thai noodle texture I've ever experienced (if you're curious you could try compare with ratee Thai at chapel st). Other dishes were delicious. Would recommend but seriously not their thin rice noodle (pad Thai), if you went to this place first time for pad Thai you'll probably never go back anymore without knowing other dishes were pretty good.

Another downside was they didn't reprint their take away menu (been months)
Tahlia Maheno Rogers-Brown
Absolutely amazing Thai! Would recommend over any other Thai place on chapel. Good for a BYO aswell if you are wanting to catch up with a friend.

The staff are really lovely and helpful aswell!

A++
La Ola Es Mia Cocina.
The food, service and atmosphere here are all fantastic.

We throughly enjoyed our night here and we definitely are looking forward to returning in the near future.

The Thai on Chapel offers delicious Thai food for average pricing. The food was fresh and tasty, my favourite dish was Papaya salad. I can’t wait to try some curries next time!
Guilthatenfear
Pretty tasty. Average Thai is all too common these days, but The Thai on Chapel, tonight anyway, has really taken me back to Thailand, perhaps one too many singhas. Anyways 4.5!

A pleasant suprise. Their delicious, charred flat rice noodle was and wonton soup made my evening. And the Red curry with tofu and veggies was well balanced. Service was on point and full of smiles. A great local thai I'd come back to time and time again.
Julian
This place is ace. It’s got a pretty diverse menu. Proper Vegetarian options/variations to the mains, customisable in a great way. The decor is atmospheric and the service is nearly always spot on. Legitimately, I think this is some of the best Thai I’ve had in Melbourne. My current fave. I’ve been going twice a week. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
TravellingFoodie
Well-priced Thai on Chapel, especially if you're out of options at 9.30pm. 3 vegetarian mains, rice, appetiser and cold drink for $55 is no mean feat, and the food is not the oily takeaway type. No frills interiors and service. The Pad Prik Khing is super for spicy food lovers, while the green curry and Pad Kee Mao were average. Pork dumplings didn't pass, per my kids.
Camille Jouan
The food is really good, fresh, tasty... it is a really nice place to go if you are looking for good food. The service is great and not too long and I will add that the price is very interesting :)
World In A Bite
Food 2: Love it! Larb, crying tiger and massaman are quite authentic... I’d come here anytime for Thai street food pancakes or kranom krok! Haven’t seen this dessert much in Melbourne! Although not authentic, I was very happy and satisfied!

Atmosphère & décors 2: love the thai decoration with traditional water bowls

Service 1: average
James Grist
Satisfying Thai food, some of the best in the area I reckon. Not the most flavoursome or authentic i've had but definitely tasty. Interesting place with a fake library wall, relaxed atmosphere and quick service. BYO which is great too.
PedGetsFed
Is it bit strange to struggle to get decent Thai food around Windsor/st Kilda? Not the fancy Saturday night kind but more the hungover Sunday kind. Tried restaurant... was delish. Next step will be to try take away from here. It was really good. The lads were sound out too.
FoodforThought
Came here because this place has a better rating than other Thai restaurants around the area but the experience was pretty average. The beef massaman was really sweet. The tom yum was small for its size (large) and it was so concentrated it tasted more like a sauce. The pipies were more acceptable.
Donald Yip
Lovely food, but the portions are small. Compared to other Thai places nearby or anywhere in Melbourne for that matter. If you're hungry, 2 curries/mains per person would make sense.
Poppy Black
Was previously best Thai on Chapel. This has changed! Quantity of food in curries reduced to very few pieces of meat at all when getting take away. Also have eftpos charging policy for any value of purchase. Poor form!
TillyEats
I, fortunately, got to spend a few months exploring and eating exotic dishes in Chiang Mai, North Thailand. Even though it was almost two years ago I can still remember the smell of the fresh produce at the morning markets and the sound of meat sizzling when it hit the Wok during the bustling night markets. I can also remember one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten, stewed pork leg over rice and how horrid it tasted coming back up a few hours later.
Ned_22
Love this place. Great prices and just delicious food. And lovely staff too. My absolutely favourite Thai place around Windsor/Prahran. Beef massaman is a stand out - beef is so tender.
Lisa Gresens
This place is amazing! Fantastic price value made affordable. I love their green curry with coconut rice and roti - and my absolute favourite is the coconut crumble for dessert! Delicious!
Dean Pahek
Regular visitor to this place. I always enjoy the roti and pad see ew. Have had most of the menu and can not complain about any of the dishes, service or prices. Not a Thai food expect but I do believe it is authentic and you won't get better Thai on chapel st or in the surrounding area.
Byron
This used to be my favourite thai place. Tonight was a tad dissapointing esp the steam fish. Clearly not fresh and fishy smell. I will come back but tonight was really dissapointing. Thai food in Sydney is so much better.
Hannah
Super delicious, cheap, byo and a gluten free menu available. Recommend pork dumplings and red curry. Desserts are amazing too. Pick up a bottle of wine and go there. Highly recommend
Luke Clarke
One of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne. Prices are spot on, service is good and the food is great. Best peanut sauce I've ever had. The mrs loves the green curry.
Maddison Jacka
Thai on Chapel is delicious and very well priced!! The pad thai, cashew chicken curry and masaman curry are great! Great for a no-fuss dinner with family or friends.
Nkng
It my first time going to The Thai on Chapel St and the atmosphere was very warm and cosy. You definitely feel welcomed as soon as you stepped in by staff. I went with a few girls and we made a reservation already so luckily we had a table for a Sunday night. However, I think if you are going on any weekend nights, book a table!
The staff was friendly and was attentive even though it was a busy night.
In regards to the food, I enjoyed it. The food came out quick and was presented neatly. My only let down was that every dish I ate, I found it to be very sweet. If they had lemon on the side of the dishes like the Pad Thai, that would definitely help refreshen the taste.
My recommendation would be the Thai Pork dumplings in their appetizers! It's not like the taste of a gyoza. It had a lovely authentic taste to it and the chilli with the coriander really helps it give a nice kick.
Constantine Arvanitis
Good food at a very good price. The ambiance is relaxing with a nice Thai feel with some toys for children making it a very family friendly environment. Helpful staff and did not need to wait long for the meals. A nice restaurant for a casual mid week meal.
Sotasty
Thought this place was very average and expensive for what you get. The spring rolls are the smallest I've ever seen. The duck curry had hardly any meat in it and was dry from being overcooked. Curry was a small serve as well. Also it's cold inside if you're sitting towards the back of the restaurant.
CAR1991
Best Thai I have ever had, absolutely perfect green chicken curry and chicken satay skewers. Fresh and delicious and will keep going back for sure, thanks!
Brad Jayson
Definitely our favourite Thai at the Windsor end. The staff are friendly, and the food is always top notch. Generous servings and fabulously flavoursome. I always search for a good Pad Kra Prow and no disappointment here!
Daniel Hill
I will admit, we only came to this restaurant because we couldn't get into Mr. Miyagi. But let me tell you, it was fate. One of the best Thai restaurants we have been to. I had one of the specials, which was a red curry stir fry served with fried pork belly. Amazing flavours and friendly service. I will be back!
Athba.albaz
The food is Delicious and always tastes fresh. The staff are always really friendly :). If you like spicy food the pad pkring (42) and the Gapoa are the best!
Shu
Love the red duck curry, fish cakes, pad Thai, lamb shoulder curry and just an amazing place for good and authentic Thai food. Service is also great

Maddie Kingham
I went here last night with a friend and really enjoyed our night! Our food was delicious and the service was friendly and best of all- it was very reasonably priced! Will definitely be coming back, it's a great place to come on a budget!
Fluffybinks
Average Thai food. We went here because of the rating on Z and the fact it was super busy. Don't know what the hype is about, what we ordered was very very ordinary.
The satay chicken - chicken nice and tender but otherwise flavourless, the sauce was smooth peanut butter out of a jar with no other flavour, no spice at all it was horrible couldn't eat it
The prawn rolls - basically a prawn wrapped in rice paper deep fried it was nice but nothing special sauce seemed like it was out of a bottle
The highlight was the " crying tiger" tender grilled slices of beef very nice, the only reason I scored this a 3
The Penang curry- very small serve with no spice no complexity of flavour, my curries have more flavour and I'm not too good at Asian cooking!

Chilled songs beer glasses good

Left dissapointed
Shijing Wang
I love this place with delicious and high proportion Thai food. Good variety of choices since you can get almost every Thai dishes you want. I highly recommend grilled pork neck, pad Thai and crispy pork.
David Clark
Great food here. Authentic taste. It's a busy place, but the staff are very efficient and do their job well. BYO (corkage) or buy wine by the bottle or by the glass. Icy cold beer on tap.
I've been a regular diner here for over 2 years and the food and service are predictably reliable. I've introduced others to this place, and nobody's disliked it yet.
Recommended: Chicken satay followed by Beef Massaman .... but it's all good.
Being busy, it can be a bit noisy, so if you want a romantic meal get in early.
Bookings recommended (but not a requirement) if you're wanting to eat after 7:30
There are limited footpath tables.

Steph McKinnon
This is my usual go to thai! Always tastes amazing and they cater for my dietary requirements. Staff are very friendly and service is, for the most part, pretty good. Really good ambience
David
Very nice ambience and friendly staff. Dumplings and roti were nice and flavours of sauces were not bad (except the satay sauce with the roti seemed to have been squeezed out of a mass-produced bottle), but unfortunately we were grossly disappointed by dishes. A $20 duck curry that had one sad duck drumstick as the meat component. A prawn green curry with only 4 small frozen prawns and a steamed fish that would be sadly rivalled by Birds Eye frozen... Hopefully the owners can improve on the generosity of the dishes, because the place was otherwise very cute.
Melly
The place was buzzing on a Saturday night and I can see why. The food was good. We ordered the chicken satay, pad Thai, pad prik khing (with crispy pork) and panang curry. The chicken satay and pad prik khing were quite oily. Pad Thai very tasty and perhaps my favourite of the night. Only criticism is that the food was served on tiny little plates, so we had to be careful not to spill it onto the table when serving! Also we had a booking for 8pm but when we got there there wasn't a table available. So we ended up sitting on the bench near the door which is not really acceptable. Despite this we would probably still return as food was decent at a reasonable price and restaurant has great ambience.
Trevor
This place is unbelievable! Best Thai food about! I get the Tom yum seafood as an entree (main course size) and the number 43 with crispy pork!
I recommend these 2 dishes!
Ko Rea
The foods are fantastic, one of the best authentic Thai restaurant I have tried. It locates on chapel street, close to all public transports, definitely easy to get to, the layout of the restaurant is casual yet comfortable, will go back again for sure. The only negative thing I will comment on is the service, I know a lot of reviewers find the staffs friendly and provide good customer services. But that's not what my friends and I have experienced, they have forgotten our drinks until we reminded them with us having all our meals, we were not given water until we asked them. Where's all the other table clearly have water and menu when they arrived, cutlery and sharing plates once they have ordered. With us we have to ask for everything, we feel neglected in a way. Nonetheless, it's a must try restaurant, just hoping that we will have better service next time. Because of the lack of service, I am rating a 4 instead of 5.
Tomlovestoeat
As close as your going to get! Absolutely loved the food here, zero holding back on flavour. The Tom yum noodles was the highlight for me, epic. New go to local.
Tuck Tuck
Authentic Thai restaurant on Chapel street with reasonable price and good service. My favourite dishes are glass noodles salad (taste just like you eat in Thailand), Chinese broccoli with crispy pork (pork is nicely done and crispy and the veg is just perfectly cooked), pad Thai and pad se ewe are also great (ask for dry chillies to get some kicks!) I'm not a big fan for the curry so cannot comment on this but can see people order them so they must be good too. If you think about having Thai on Chapel street this is the place to be.
The Food Queen
I liked the ambience of this place and was off to a great start with the icy cold Singa. Service was quick and food came out fast. We ordered pad see ewe veggie and a spicy stir fry chicken dish. We both thought the food was overly sweet. The fresh lemon helped but not enough for us to want to return.
Samantha
Amazing food and great service. Very reasonably priced for the quality. So hard to find authentic Thai food anymore, but this place is delicious every time. Love the Singha on tap too!
Bhawna Gi
The food was very good. Had Vegetarian green curry with rice. The ambience is good. I would like to go again and try some more variety of food.
Lex Xiao
This place is the best Thai food I've had in Melbourne. The place has great service, food Comes out quick and waitress are very nice. The food is nicely priced and delicious, best Thai in Melbourne for what you pay. Best soft shelled crab, must order, big and juicy. Entrees are a must, get the Thai dim Sims! Get the pad Thai definitely a favorite. Been back many times since my first visit.
Richie
Best Thai in Melbourne. Hands down. Have ordered nearly every item from the menu and never been disappointed.. Wish they did delivery! Tapp beers are served in ice cold glasses too.. Well done
Little Miss Adventure
Lovely food, suitable price, service was alright 👍
I had grilled meat balls(nice sauce), pork sausage dish (taste authentic), grilled pork neck (pretty big portion and yum) and garlic soft shell crab (this was the least favorite because it's a bit over cook but the sauce that comes with it was delicious ^^ ) overall I would go back again....👍
Stephanie Dellios
Possibly the worst dinning experience I have ever had. My reservation was wasn't written down, the staff were extremely rude, the portions were very small and they added a bunch of meals to our bill that we didn't order. The food was so average as well, there's a lot of amazing Thai places in Melbourne and this place will never keep up. Was very disgusted by the horrible service.
Jar-Fed
The Thai is amazing! such fantastic authentic Thai food! I've been as a small and as a large group and the food works for both settings! Its fresh and vibrant and BYO which makes it a great group catch up place
Sally Phillips
I am very impressed with Thai on Chapel. You know it's good when you are already thinking about going back there after eating your meal! I came here with a friend and we ordered the coconut pancakes for entree (suitable to share between 2 or 3). I then had the Green curry with coconut rice (a lot of coconut and very rich! but delicious all the same!). I am definitely coming back here soon. Unfortunately I don't think they are on Foodora App.
Simmyeats.Melb
This is a very nice Thai restaurant with great food and pretty good service. Have been here on 2 occasions and each time was very satisfied with the food. Entrees and mains were delicious with decent portions - it is BYO too which is a bonus! If you love chilli ask for the beef and chill stir fry it will blow your socks off! Totally yummy :)
Janie Brown
Best cheap Thai in Melbourne! Amazing food every time very consistent. Great value for money and quick service. The pad see ew is with prawns is amazing and you get a lot of prawns compared to other places.
Gary Ross
Went to the restaurant in the mood for Thai a eek ago and didn't know what to expect, service was great and liked the water cups as they were very different to most paces, the service was quick, but not too pushy which was nice, the food was very tasty with the right level of spice which I like when I ordered the Pad Prik Khing, would definitely go back

Walked in the rain to come here for our casual Saturday night date and it was worth it! The food was authentic and tasted delicious. The service was good and the staff were attentive. I loved the decor and the vibe of the restaurant. On top of all, it's pretty affordable. Highly recommending this restaurant for my fellow Thai lovers. It's the second best Thai food I have eaten in Melbourne.
Maro
Foodwise absolutely delicious. I had the vegetarian pad see ew which I'd never had before and it was delicious. Not the best roti I've ever had and the portion size was a little on the stingy side but ok.
One thing I should say is that although the waitress moved us so that we were sitting below a heater (inside) it was still so cold so I suggest you rug up if you come in winter.
Anna W
Ordered Chicken Red Curry for takeaway. It tasted like they just poured a lot of fish sauce in it. Not my kind of Red Curry at all. Will not go back.
Steve George
This place is awesome. Friendly funny staff and food is just great. Really enjoyed our time here. Service was fairly quick too. Pad thai was on point and I had a beef dish which was delish. Entrees were superb. Will be going back one day for sure. Only have one photo of the entrees, can't find any others sorry.

There's so many Thai restaurants in Melb that it's hard to pick the goodies amongst the crowd, but The Thai is certainly one that hits the mark.
This is your everyday local Thai but with food that's packed with loads of flavour.
Don't go expecting to be waited on hand and foot (it's even a lil slow at times) or for a fancy night out. It's just a great solid meal that's well priced and well portioned.
Best part yet is that they have Singha Beer on tap! This is perfect to wash down the chilli packed dishes. The cherry on top is the frozen glasses they serve the beer in. This is perfect for those midweek/weekend nights out with friends for a quality cheap feed and beer with a good casual atmosphere.
Jay
Favourite Thai place ever!!!! Faultless, food is the best. Mouth watering and flavoursome.

I am now a regular and the mere mention of the Thai makes me crave it over and over
MissC
Stumbled on this place the other night after being rejected from Hawker Hall. Was so glad we did. The food here is sensational and very reasonably priced!!! Each dish is a flavour party in your mouth and the aromatic smells just keep making u dive in. A top and authentic Thai experience. Can't wait to go back!!!!

I've been coming here for dinner for about a year and I absolutely love it! Has great service, food is always perfect and the atmosphere is exactly what you need for a relaxed dinner out. It's got plenty of space so you're not squished up next to people. I would recommend the pad thai, the curries and the cashew nut stir fry. Definitely one of the best Thai restaurants in Melbourne and one of the best Pad Thai's I've had!
Xox90
Food was delicious and service was fast but i got food poisoning after eating the bbq chicken last night :( i would still go back but not for awhile

Great food - loved every bit of it - definetely value for money.
The staff worked really hard and I'd definetely recommend this restaurant.
Go to Thai food on Chapel street, cheap and cheerful and always delicious. Pad Kee Mao is always a winner. Friendly staff and nice atmosphere.
Steph
Great little spot On chapel, portion sizes were smaller than other Thai restaurants but was enough to fill me up. Had pad Thai and green curry along with dumplings. All really delish and came out quick.
Marcia
Was there tonight with friends and food and service were both spectacular. This is the 2nd time we have been and it has to be the best Thai restaurant we have been too. All the food we had is very fresh and aromatic. The pancakes are to die for. The fish curry, soft crab, rump steak, prawn curry, vegies and even the steamed rice were cooked to perfection. And the cost is very reasonable! Will keep coming back for sure. Well done guys 😊
Elle
Really Fantastic Thai food! I won't go anywhere else for Thai now! Quick to arrive and Fresh ingredients used in all the meals. The price was reasonable as well.
SK
What a great little place. Great food, meals came quickly and very tasty. Short list of wines by the glass but the NZ sauv blanc went perfectly with our food.

Located on Chapel st in Prahran it was recommended to us by one of D's colleagues. FU and A was in town so it created the perfect opportunity to go out for a big feed. we booked in advance and lucky we did. The place was packed and buzzing. To start we got the coconut pancakes to share, this came with 3 flavours peanut, chives and corn. These were very light and the coconut filling was just solid enough. It definitely got our taste buds moving.
Purpleninja
Have been here twice dining in. The first time the food was faultless, all 4 of us loved what we ordered. The second time the Tom yum was delicious but the green and red curries tasted like coconut milk with a small bit of curry paste and were just overall disappointing.
Prageeth Silva
Caught up with my friend for dinner and decided to try this place out. They've already got good reviews so was definitely worth a try. Staff was friendly and the service was quick too. The food didn't take too long either. We ended up trying the #BBQChiken, #FriedRiceWithBeef and ##ChickenGlassNoodles (all shown in photos). My personal favourite was the bbq chicken as they had their very own sauce! A must try dish at this place! Also note the silver cups given instead of regular glasses for water! :)

Went with a big group, and well the one thing that stays in my mind is the really poor service. Whilst the food was just ok, the staff weren't engaging at all, they never cleared our meal plates and when we asked for dessert an hour after finishing our meal (whilst our plates were all piled in front of us) they didnt have any of the options we had asked for. With the number of Thai and other Asian places on chapel street, we won't go back.
Luke And Hannah
One of the best Thai places in town. We loved it how they priced the dishes. Smaller portion at lower prices so that we could try a good variety of items in the menu without worrying we can't finish them all. The grilled pork dish and the durian sticky rice were so so good!
Snake00
Yum! Yum! Yum!
Had been craving Thai for a while and have recently moved to this part of town so was after a new regular. Found it!!
So wasn't overly imaginative in our order but next time will be! Pad Thai and beef and cashews were delicious. Friendly fast service despite being very busy. I can see why they were busy too.
Sharon McKinnon
This is our regular Thai restaurant in Windsor. Have tried al the others and this place tops them all and never disappoints! Food is fresh with grea casual service.

By far my most favourite Thai. Better than any other Thai place in the area. And it's BYO which is even better. Regular place for me! Trust me, you'll be back more than once!

Came here for dinner as the other restaurants we had wanted to go to were full...

Reluctantly walked in, as my girlfriend wanted Thai!

The food was very very good! Did not expect such wonderful flavours and tastes from this humble restaurant!

Would definitely recommend! One of the better Thai restaurants in Melbourne
Johan Snyman
The food we had was absolutely delicious. Soups and curry dishes were out of this world. Beef Massamam curry made me very happy. Perfectly spiced. I'll be back soonest. Bonus points for being super well priced.

Great food...a little too sweet, otherwise quite tastey.
would go back. Staff were attentive. Atmosphere was good overall..................
This is my favourite local thai joint! Massaman lamb shank curry special was amazing. They've got some interesting appetiser street food type dishes that you don't often see. Service is friendly and it's perfect for a casual dinner + beer.

Amazing food! The best ive had in Melbourne since i moved here in Jan. Entrée was Tom Yum Soup with Prawns and spring rolls - they were small but amazing! Then we had coconut rice with Penang chicken curry which was thick and creamy and absolutely delish! We also ordered a Lamb Shank Massaman curry which was divine! i recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Thai. We went on a Wednesday night and there were a few people already in the restaurant so im glad we booked. The service was excellent, super quick and the wait staff were so friendly and polite. I will be coming back here again, again and again and telling everyone about it! HAPPY customer :)

Everything tastes amazing. It's as simple as that!
Cool atmosphere too, friendly staff and incredible value.
Rivals Chin Chin at half the price.

Went here for dinner tonight. Staff were incredibly friendly and inviting. The decor is nicely themed. Our meal came out very promptly and tasted delicious. All reasonably priced too.
Bobby Henry
This seriously has to be one of the best Thai places in Melbourne. The food here is the most authentic Thai I've had in Melbourne. I can't wait to eat here again.
Marnina
Booked a table on Thursday for 15 for Saturday night, on arrival was told that table was not booked. It appeared the restaurant was full however, staff quickly got a table together for a large group. Throughout the night the staff were friendly and helpful, considering it was Saturday and very busy the food came out quickly and was presented well with the use of fresh and quality ingredients. Everyone enjoyed their food thoroughly, stating that it was some of the best Thai food they've had. Prices were very reasonable. Will definitely be returning very soon. Atmosphere was great, though I wouldn't recommend if you're looking for a quiet romantic dinner, the vibe was upbeat and the restaurant was hustlin' a bustlin'!
Julycheee
Cosy but large Thai restaurant, with a lot of really nice touches in the decor. The service was efficient, and our food was very tasty. Pad thai, three flavour dish, pork skewers and fried wontons were all excellent. Would definitely recommend this Thai restaurant to those in the area.
Alexielle
Good place and good food. Food came out fast and good sized portion. Will definitely come back!
Coop12
Fresh and tasty Thai food! Friendly staff and the beer on tap is great!
The Dodgy End
..ordered the chicken pad gatium, which a stir fry with onions, garlic and pepper sauce. The actual massaman curry sauce was delicious but the beef was quite dry. The pad gatium was a good sized helping however the garlic and onion flavours were quite potent.

Thai fare, as you know it, gets you a bowl of fragrant rice and many sharing plates on the table. Even when there were only the three of us dining here, we still managed to do that. Thai On Chapel has terrific ratings online and with that, it was Jan's job to drive us there. The design of the place was unique, kind of like the setting of typical Thai houses you might see back then. Not sure which era, maybe from the 1920s all the way to its 1990s? I still remember those cages my family had at home decades ago. We used to have tons of them, and owned tons of colourful sparrows in it. Hence this place brings me back old memories. At this age of day living through the 90s, I am still in disbelief of how quickly the world has revolutionized. Seafood Tom Yum Soup, 8.90AUD So I should stop sounding like an old fart and start with the food review. We were quite disappointed when our Tom Yum Soup came in such a small bowl. There were two options, the smaller bowl or the bigger bowl, this was the bigger one. I mean, can you imagine how small would the smaller bowl be? When we were sharing it however, we realised how much it was packed with seafoods inside and actually enough for three. However, all that volume taken up by the core ingredients make the soup itself very little in liquid content. The tom yum itself tasted great, but we just wished that they meant it when they said, big bowl. Beef Pad Thai Noodle, 12.90AUD The Pad Thai was really yummy. Thai people usually pride themselves with their specialty condiment, the tamarind sauce. Tamarind sauce is used in great variety of Thai food offerings such as slathering it on top of a fried fish, stir frying it on diced beef and chicken, Thai curries, or even this Beef Pad Thai Noodles. The natural sour taste comes from the tamarind paste, and if there were any other flavours I tasted, it was slightly sweet, slightly salty, and slightly spicy. Three Flavor Fish Fillet, 16.90AUD Deep fried fish cuts with basil and tamarind sauc

Amazing Thai food! Eaten here 3 times and take away once so far! BYO is cheap, the food is tasty and so many options. The bill is always cheap too!

Good food. Food was good hot and tasty..will definitely be back to try this one again
Howard Gaskill
Good food. Had green chicken curry with rice a couple of times at this place which was nice. Seafood and veggies also good.
The sticky rice desserts are yummy and wrapped in traditional banana leaf.
I like the silver bowls they use for drinking cups.
Plan to try different meals in future
Enjoyed time there.

I had been here a few times now and my go to if I am craving for Thai. The place is usually busy. The food is always tasty and I can't seen to find fault to it. The service is pretty good too. Friendly and attentive staff. I do recommend this place!
CoffeeAddict_891
Best thai on the block!. I've been going to The Thai since it first opened - food is always beautiful and the service, while sometimes a little haphazard is always very friendly! Take-away orders have always been less than 20 minutes (even on a Friday) and it's by far and away the best value on Chapel St and surrounding suburbs!

I can never go past the Pad Thai whenever I'm there - always fresh and beautifully balanced - I've moved over the side of Melbourne and I still drive to Prahran to get my thai it's that good! (or rather, that everywhere around me is so awful!)

Never had a bad experience here, and would highly recommend to anyone wanting a cheap & delicious meal!
Mmarory
Cutlery is cute but is all the place has to offer.. My 12 year old sister and her annoying friends could whip up a better thai dish than these folks. The staff were confused and mixed up our orders. This actually transpired into, wow...I can't believe it really happened...a very small Thai waitress sprinting after me down the street with a look on her face as if I stole the cash from the register, only to be told I must come back and pay for my food, after already paying. The matter was resolved and we came to the conclusion that the two waitresses would be dangerous if they had brains. Food was average didn't really feel like authentic 'thai' food to be honest (and I have eaten at quite a few thai restaurants so I am an expert at this).
Jye
By far the best Thai food on or around chapel street.
Roycasey22
RIP OFF. Food is great with the service being a bit average.
Most disappointing that although we've only eaten there twice, both times they have overcharged us. Last night they charged us $30 for a $7 bottle of wine.
WE DID NOT BUY ANY WINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I asked for a copy of the bill which they reluctantly gave me there was little apologies as with the time before when they tried to rip us off.
I won't be going back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CHECK YOUR BILLS.

LOVE IT!!. Seriously, the ONLY place I buy Thai in Melbourne. AMAZING food.

Awesome. Best place for Thai food in Melbourne! Love it !

Very yum. The Thai exceeded our expectations. very vibey. awesome decor. delicious food and exceptionally friendly service. great value for money. a lovely night out. Definitely coming back.

I absolutely loved this restaurant! The service was great and the food was even better. There is a huge menu with options for everyone and the meat was good quality and delicious. It's great value and my new favourite Thai restaurant in Melbourne!
Richard
TERRIBLE service. The food is decent and it's cheap and cheerful but the service is AWFUL. It took 40+ minutes from sitting down to getting dinner - which is insane for a street food type place - and then they forgot one person's meal. By the time that had arrived, everyone else was finished! Not even an apology, just a plate plopped down on the table 20 minutes too late.
Tom Martin
Great dinner. Had a great dinner here last night. We shared the Pad Thai & Phanaeng Curry. Pad Thai was really fresh and well flavoured, and the curry had lots of vegetables which was nice. Note that the curry was spicier than the yellow curry at our local thai even though it was their mildest.
Dotty
Understaffed!!. Went to The Thai on Chapel for dinner last Wednesday night and it was chronically understaffed. We had to ask to get a menu, ask if we could order a drink, ask if we could order a meal, ask if we could order another drink, and ask if we could get the bill - were not offered any of these services. The staff are friendly but clearly rushed and it is unfair on them that they do not have more help.
Yayayee
Good job guy. Great food, good service, excellent atmosphere, this was call Thailand. Recommended

So soooo good. Awesome looking with funky fit-out, great wait staff & amazing food. Thai beef salad was super fresh & not heavy on the fish sauce in the dressing like some places, we also tried pork nan jim & chicken sate. Don't leave without trying the fresh mango & sticky rice desert - it's to die for. Such a great Thai! We wish them every success!

I love everything about this place!! Have been four times now. Lovely interior, great staff, best menu - have tried almost everything now and you can't order a bad meal :-) reasonably priced too. Will be back again and again

One word = awesome!!! Service, atmosphere, food!

Best Thai Food in Melbourne! The food is always fresh and the staff are lovely. My favourite dishes are the Thai green curry & pad Thai :)

Best Thai food since Thailand. Cheap and cheerful, no tablecloth arrangement. Not dumbed down for westerners. Love it
Julia Eats Melbourne
Cheap and very cheerful!. After reading reviews on Urbanspoon I was looking forward to trying The Thai on Chapel and I certainly wasn't disappointed. I loved that there are different things to try on the menu other than the stock standard Thai menus that we see in Thai restaurants all over Melbourne. I ordered the entree size prawn tom yum (which was perfectly spicy) and the crying tiger with jim jaw salad. The beef in the salad was very tender and the flavours were wonderful. The ambience inside was very nice and the fact you can make a booking makes the Thai on Chapel even more appealing. It won't be long until I'm back!

Honestly The Thai is AMAZING FOOD. Try the chicken cashew or the beef masaman!! You won't regret it! 10 out of 10!!

A happy customer!. Really happy with my take away Penang Curry and Sticky Rice. Very tasty. Will definitely be going back.

Love this place! Very tasty, authentic and affordable food. The Singha served in frozen glasses is also amazing :)

Not a bad place to come to for authentic Thai . Chairs are not the best if u intend staying long. The food saves it though

Wondered in off the street on a Friday night as a random pick. Tables free, great service and really fresh and tasty food at a good price. Very happy, would come back.

Real Thai Taste !! Seriously !! It's quite hard to find Thai restaurant where they making real thai taste like this place!!
Aimee.ward78
Thai worth trying. SO we found this place by accident.
Lots of menu options and great to see allergy info on the menu.
The gf dumplings and pad thai are both fantastic.
The basics are done really well ie Tom Yum, beef in Ginger etc....They spice it up but those authentic Thai flavours are all there and freshness!
We'll be going back - a few more items on the menu that I think will be winners!
Karen
The only Thai restaurant I take my Thai friend to when she visits
Fly On The Wall
Although this place was packed, my assumption is that its more to do with the affordable price rather than the quality of the food. I ordered a chicken and vegetable dish from the wok, which sadly translated on the plate to minced chicken, swimming in oil with a few bland vegetables. Food can be cheap, but there is no excuse for bad food!!!!
Word Smith
All of the staff should walk 20mtrs down the street to Thai Food To Go, and see how it is done. Massive disappointment.
Travis Bootos
The Pad gra pow did not have much chicken at all to much vegis when a traditional pad gra pow had chilli garlic basil and a lot of chciken asked for a second pad gra pow and told them how to do it and the made it the right way

You must Try this Thai. First time dining at this restaurant. Staff were friendly and professional. Food was great and came out rather quickly. Overall, it was a very enjoyable dining experience.
Allison Tonks
We went here for the first time last night. The service was a bit slow to start with we sat for about 10 minutes before anyone came to get drinks and then the entrees came before the drinks. But aside from that the food was really great! We will defiantly be back, but next time we won't be afraid to call a wait staff over when we want to order instead of politely sitting patiently! The restaurant was quite and then became quite busy! :) Again, the food was amazing!!!!!! :)
Tiges
Great salads, love the Crying Tiger and Pork Neck. Order it spicy and skip the Green Curry and you'll have a great meal. Good prices, service can fall over from time to time but food makes up for it.
Tess
A new favourite for us! We live in the area and had been told to come here-and it was great! Pad Thai was full of flavour, and the dumplings for entree are miles ahead of oriental teahouse. Will be back!
Eating Food Things
Fantastic food, fantastic look to the place, brilliant service. Definatly will be back

The idea is to bring Thai Street food to Melbourne. I love food here especially any menu with crispy pork, ie, Chinese broccoli stir fried wh crispy pork. If you are not friendly wh spicy, better inform the friendly staff there. I also love Thai soft drink ie Thai black tea. I had two of them!! It is not really sweet. I always end up wh a great variety of dessert, ie banana fritter in Thai style. Next time I will try different food n dessert. Then will post more photo. Last but not least, the decoration is really nice and it is not expensive at all!!!(compare wh value)
Rogeramo
One of my favorite Thai restaurant in Melbourne ! The food is so authentic ! I love the coconut mini Pancakes! The lunch special is pretty awesome! Been there so many times never feel let-down! Luckily the restaurant is not that busy !easy to get seats!!

I love this place... Amazing fresh food and awesome fitout!! Can't wait to go back...

Brilliant. The food was through the roof. Ordered the Panang Curry and have to say it was the best Panang Curry I have had in Melbourne (this being a personal favourite and my food yardstick for thai restaurants!). The refreshing interior is a nice homage to the beautiful thai restaurants found around the south east asian nation. Not too tacky, not too over the top. A bit of khao san, without the annoying tourists and hawkers. Prices are very reasonable, and the specials menu is hard to beat bang for buck.

The service was also great, the waitress all smiles, was quick and helpful to attend us. There are a number of good choices for thai food around this part of Chapel street, and "The Thai" is high on my list of recommendations. The addition of Beer on tap is a nice feature as well. I am excited to return and try the many other dishes on the menu.
Jen
Great food, reasonable prices definitely heading back :)
CheR
So yummyyyy and lovely service. . I will go often. .

Good food, small portion. Shame that the floor is on shambles. One person running the whole floor. Despite she did the best she could, a lot of table went unserved and served themselves in the end. Putting 'table service' to shame!
A lot of potentials if they could get the floor running properly.

Thai Street Eats. The Thai on Chapel originally sparked our interest as the menu extended beyond the typical repertoire you’re likely to strike at the average Thai restaurant in Melbourne. Quite a lot of the menu falls into the street eats category which undeniably is where the best Thai food is derived.

We’d originally considered visiting for dinner, but opted for lunch after phoning and discovering that they weren’t licensed and don’t permit BYO either. Not sure whether there’s some kind of application in the pipeline, but the addition of alcohol in any shape or form would no doubt be a bonus.

The set up is quite casual featuring concrete floors, an open kitchen at the rear and Thai style timber furniture which starts to get uncomfortable if you linger too long. Service is informal, though staff are attentive and swift to replace empty water bottles and remove dirty plates, etc.

The variety available is enormous as alongside the classics there are dishes you rarely find available in Melbourne. We started with Som Tum (green papaya salad), Kao Kiab Pak Moo (steamed pork dumplings) and Moo Ping (grilled pork skewers). All were pretty good with the only grumble being that the Som Tum wasn’t nearly spicy enough.

We followed with the Pa Lo (slow cooked pork belly soup with egg, bean curd and five spice), the Gaeng Som Cha Om (sour orange curry with prawns and omelet of acacia fronds), and lastly Kuay Jub (rolled noodles in slow cooked pork belly soup with hardboiled egg and bean curd).

Mostly the food was tasty and gratifying, however many of the dishes were quite sweet, which was a shame as otherwise they were close to what you’d expect to find back in Thailand.

We'll re-visit to try out more of the menu, but next time around request they go easy on the sugar.

Authentic Thai (because I'm Thai). Best grilled pork skewers, Superb papaya salad, and Tom Yum Noodle is to die for. I'll certainly try everything on the menu.
Coffee_dude
Great!. My favourite here is guay jab (few other people have mentioned it). Girlfriend also tried yen tafo (pink noodle soup with seafood) which looked great as well. Highly recommended for authenticity, this is on par with Chat Thai for the dishes I tried.

Best Thai outside Thailand! .... Best Thai outside Thailand!
Food amazing...fast, friendly service. The cashew chicken was so tasty. Massaman curry was great too. Will definitely be back here. Perfect for a quick bite to eat however you could sit here for hours eating as there is a great ambience.

Best Thai Food in Melbourne. I came here for lunch with workmates and tried their green curry and the coconut pancake dessert (on the appetiser section). The food was absolutely amazing, I came back a few days later with my partner and he loved it. The pork belly in plum sauce in the specials board and the chicken spare ribs on the appetisers was especially good. Will be coming back for more :)

Yummy food, nice casual atmosphere.

Nothing beats thai street food when you're in Thailand. And this retro decorated restaurant's menu has a lot of street food items. It's refreshing to see a restaurant break the norm and do something different.
I tried Kuay Jub - awesome! If you like offal (I know:) this is one dish to try.
My Aussie and foreign friends all love it.
For dessert, try sticky rice with mango which is on the special board. Coconut pancake is just as nice - too sweet to b appetizer for me. We had it after our meal and it's yum!
Nice and relaxing atmosphere, cool decor. Go try!

Kouy jab is the best!!

he says: These days I don't get over to Chapel Street as much as I used to, sadly (or not) the days of partying at Revolver until the wee hours are well and truly behind me. On this occasion I was quite excited to be invited over to the Windsor end of Chapel to check out the not so subtly named 'The Thai on Chapel'. Life has been pretty busy lately so I wasn't to do much research about what to expect, as is my usual process. With so many great food blogs and Urbanspoon at my disposal it's actually quite rare these days that I don't walk into a restaurant without pretty much knowing exactly what I am going to order before a menu is even placed in front of me. After my excellent experience at 'The Thai on Chapel' I'm starting to question whether taking away the element of surprise actually somewhat diminishes a little part of the dining experience. On walking in to the restaurant I was immediately aware of the differences to what I usually encounter when entering the Thai establishments

For those who have traversed the streets of Thailand, you will understand how extraordinarily tasty and cheap Thai street food is. From skewers of chicken butt (very fatty and delicious actually) and chicken wings to tiny custard-y coconut pancakes (kanom krok) and boxes of sticky rice with mango and coconut milk - you will almost certainly find something to your liking at the many street side markets in Thailand. On my most recent trip to Phuket in July last year, we discovered a gem that many locals kept pointing out to us with a thumbs up to convey their approval. We feasted on scrummy plates of noodles and curries costing just over a dollar each. Although there is no way that we can find this sort of pricing in Australia, I was keen to seek out some great Thai food in Melbourne that wasn't a bastardised version or laden with sugar. Disclaimer: We were invited to dine complimentary at Ayatana. All thoughts and opinions are based purely on my experience at the time of visit. Down the
