We came here and it was very quiet, it did pick up throughout the night however. Tora serves up a fusion of various Asian cuisines with some daring combinations. Our beverage of choice that night was a very dry sake which we shared amongst ourselves.

We started off with their baby octopus skewers which was a fantastic snack, some nice browning and textually firm, the hot BBQ sauce gave it a little heat. We also got a small plate of roasted eggplant topped with spicy sesame sauce, fried shallots and coriander. I feel like I can do no wrong with eggplant, it's creamy and addictive.

I really enjoyed their coconut ceviche which was a mixture of kingfish, grapes, tobiko, chilli, coriander and red onion. It was sweet and milky with a hint of spice all served alongside some cassava crackers which were pretty robust.

Their rice noodle ragu gave me mixed feelings, whilst it had been inspired by a pappardelle with ragu it didn't particularly hit the same notes. Whilst I'd prefer the rice noodles to be more firm this had the consistency similar to cheong fun, perhaps that was what they were going for. The braised pork with peanuts, chilli oil, tare sauce and shallots made for a decent pairing to the starch.

Their take on the agedashi tofu was topped with Thai basil chicken which worked quite well. Whether or not it still classifies as an agedashi tofu without the dashi broth is open for debate.

We also had their crying tora, I'm guessing it's their variation of the crying tiger. It's an unusual combination of hanger steak and watermelon topped with cucumber relish and surprisingly it worked! It's almost like a beef salad, the dressing being nuoc nam for that umami and the steak was well cooked medium rare and tender.

We finished off with a couple of their desserts (it was their only ones), their Japanese cheesecake with green tea ice cream was decent but nothing to write home about. Their banana fritter with coconut ice cream felt a bit icy but upon closer inspection concluded that the icy bits were something else (not sure what). The bananas had nice caramelisation to them and were soft all the way through.

For the most part we enjoyed the creativeness of the food but dessert was where they played it a bit too safe. The restaurant seemed to be lacking a bit of ambience (we sat downstairs) but that very well may depend on the patrons that night. Worth a quick inspection and wasn't too hard on the wallet.

Really great little place, have been here a few times now. Food is generally very good. Corn fritters are outrageous, so juicy. Probably wouldn't order the Bao again. Cool atmosphere. Attentive staff without being overbearing. Will be back

Tora Eatery & Bar is a delicious spot to check out I. Windsor for their Japanese and Thai inspired food. They focus on sharing plates which aren’t too big so you can order quite a bit to share!

I loved their roasted eggplant dish which was simple, yet super flavourful with their spicy sesame sauce. The coconut ceviche was really light and refreshing, and went so well with their cassava crackers.

Top quality Japanese style eatery with 5 🎖 service . Staff were extremely polite and friendly.

Decor was simple and elegant .

Drinks menu were comprehensive and food menu was coherent and simple.

The braised lamb and miso salmon was done to perfection with just the right side dish to complement.

The owner was also heading the kitchen on Sat night keeping quality in check.

Ps: meals may have a 15-20min wait time .

Would order everything again. The highlights were the Penang beef rib (melt-in-your-mouth tender) and pork bao.

Service was professional and efficient.
Ambience was nice and cosy.
The photo menu on mryum is a great idea but photos need to be updated for some of the dishes.

I had the pleasure of dining at Tora the other night after winning their giveaway, and my expectations were blown away!

Located on the busy High St, the restaurant is quite small, but has a romantic ambience and simple decorations.

The menu creatively combines flavours of Japanese, Taiwanese and Thai influence. We had a few snacks and share plates, and we were very pleased with our experience.

The Katsu Pork Bao was delicious! The pork is actually deep-fried all around (usually, pork bao comes with braised pork belly) so it was very unique. The pork was fatty, juicy and cooked so well. Highly recommend!

The Fried Chicken Karaage was nice but I think it could’ve been more crispy. The chicken was tender and juicy though, and it was still enjoyable.

However, the Tempura Corn Fritters were a winner. Incredibly crispy batter, sweetness from the corn, and creaminess from the sauce. One of the most addictive foods ever!

We then had the Coconut Ceviche, which has to be my favourite dish of the night. The kingfish was marinated in a light and refreshing sauce, and the addition of grapes added a nice sweetness. I loved the crunchiness of the cassava cracker too. Definitely recommend this dish!

The Rice Noodle Ragu seems to be one of their most popular dishes so we decided to give it a go. It was nice, but not my favourite dish. The sauce was a bit heavy and powerful, although the rice noodles were really nice and soft.

We were intrigued by the dish called Crying Tora, and it didn’t disappoint! Such a unique combination of steak, watermelon and spice - but it works surprisingly well! The watermelon gives some freshness to the spiciness of the dish.

Finally, we couldn’t leave without a Brûlée Egg Tart for dessert, and it was a hit! It tasted exactly like an egg tart, but with a brûléed top which you can’t really taste, but I love egg tarts so I’m not complaining.

Overall, we had a lovely time at Tora. Our waitress was very attentive and replaced our water bottle about 5 times throughout the night! I would highly recommend checking out Tora Eatery & Bar!

Fo0die dined as a guest of Tora Eatery and Bar and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.

At the time we dined, Tora Eatery and Bar, had been opened for 6 months with an aim to be known for comfort food and street snacks. We arrived at the venue on a Friday evening via tram route 6 from the CBD which stopped basically across the road from the venue.

I am so impressed with Tora. I didn't know that to expect, to be honest, but was immediately struck by the gorgeous interior when I went to pick up my takeaway order. I got a starter of semi sweet grilled eggplant which came topped with shallots. For mains, I had the creamy and tomato-rich Thai style curry (sans meat), which was full of interesting add-ins such as jackfruit and asparagus. I also tried the agedashi tofu, which was a small serve but so delicious topped with mushrooms and edamame in a soy broth. If you're veggie, be sure to specify as this dish traditionally comes with chicken. I ordered rice as a side and was given a delicious compliment bag of rice crackers. The dishes were all nice on their own but even better when combined.

Great little asian spot that's worth visiting. It might seem a little daunting to start with, being of mixed Taiwanese, Japanese and Thai influence, but it really works and comes together. Perfect for a date night, but also well valued enough for just a casual night out!

Excellent fit out with beautiful attention to detail. Small cosy space, not too loud. Our food was authentic and tasty. Most of the vegetarian options can be made vegan—the chef came out to introduce himself and reassure us. Looking forward to going back soon.

We have had 4 meals at this new eatery in High St, and every dish has been fabulous. The flavours are complex and delicate, presentation beautiful. It has been impossible to choose a favourite dish, the baby octopus was tender and delicious, the Kingfish ceviche to die for, and the silken tofu was an unexpected delight. Given the high standard of the food, the prices are very reasonable, around $90 for a couple, with a couple of drinks each, and 3 shared dishes. Make the detour from Chapel St, you won’t regret it!

Just walked past Tora and decided to stop for a meal, so glad we did. We had a fabulous meal, and a couple of drinks. Great atmosphere, friendly staff and very tasty food. We had the dumplings followed by the lamb curry and chilli, caramel rib beef and finished off with the Icecream with chocolate soil. It was all presented beautifully and the food had great flavour. We will be back!

Really lovely venue (great finishes), with simply stunning food - the signature Crying Tora was full of flavour, and the (gluten free!) Chicken Karage tasted like it was straight from the streets of Osaka. Service and prices were also great. Highly recommend.

A really delicious style of food. Combining japanese and Thaiwanese, these guys are really onto something! A couple of my favourite dishes were the rice noodle ragu and the karaage chicken. There cocktails were also delightful.
