Review Thai Food To Go - Windsor

Average pad thai and not very good clear soup. Pad thai had no peanuts and very little egg. My partner had a soup which was pretty flavourless.

Delicious Thai dinner from Thai food to go. We ordered spring rolls (so different to what weโ€™re used to but very tasty), green chicken curry and basil and chilli beef. All dishes were full of flavour and fresh. Will definitely add this to one of our faves to order from again.

Thai Food To Go ๐Ÿ—บ Donโ€™t let the look of this restaurant fool you, this place is an absolute gem. ๐Ÿฅ˜ If authentic Thai is what you seek, this is the place to go. The curries are not to sweet & full of flavour, & you can taste the fresh ingredients in every bight. Make sure you try the green chicken curry, every mouthful is spectacular ๐Ÿ’ต Prices are quite cheap with main meals starting at $15 ๐Ÿ‘งStaff were lovely and friendly

Amazing food! Not entirely sure why it's got a low rating or why it's taken me so long to come here. Perfectly sized meal, great prices and plenty of tasty looking options. I ordered the Vegetarian Pad See Ewe! Sooo tasty! And that's coming from a carnivore! ๐Ÿ’š

One of my go-to when I just want some Thai locally. Usually only going with takeaway. Can recommend the pad kee mao and pad see eww.

Fantastic food, friendly and fast service. Vegan yellow curry was awesome. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Best Thai food in Prahran / Windsor. Staff are efficient but delightful. Decor is retro style and functional. I have lived in Windsor for over 25 years and this place is now a cultural icon! I love the beef grapow, but there are many other yummy but healthy items on menu.

The green curry and the rice cake were very good, loved the street seating, friendly service

There was no peanuts in pad thai nor bean sprouts, No flavour whatsoever..Disappointing! Pad kee mao was ok hence the three stars...

I have had a fair share or exceptional Thai food in Melbourne over the years and will definitely pay above the market rate for excellence. This restaurant is extremely overpriced for its portion, food well below standard and staff was extremely rude. Save your money and head to cheaper places with authentic flavours to offer.

Interesting place was quite empty at 6:00pm on Sat. Was craving Thai food before going to a gig on a Friday night. I ordered the pad Thai with vegetables and it was delicious, light and refreshing, food came out pretty quickly and service was lovely. The decor was interesting. Will definitely be back :)

Had dinner with a group here, the restaurant is nice with plenty of seating.ย ย

Whilst some of the starters were nice I felt that the curries fell short and were not as good as others I have had from other restaurants.ย We ordered a green chicken and beef red curry, they were nice however felt that they could of been more generous on the beef portions and more flavoursome.

Love the place ... priceless yesteryears ...

It's a one-off that one can truly appreciate ... left over from the 70's, big front glass window, retro colourful walls, vintage display cabinet, concrete floor, thick colourful vinyl chairs, etc. it's like waking into a yesteryear shop ...

Food wise, North Thailand style Pad Thai, saltier, wet, 6/10 at $16.90 ... complemented well with a glass of $7.00 Tempranillo.

The memory of yesteryears is priceless. JT-20/04/2018.

Always a nice Dinner at Thai food to go and very reasonable priced meals!
Penang Chicken Curry is always delicious! Pad Thai Chicken is really nice too!
Highly recommend :)

Looking for a new thai place in our area we were encouraged by the Zomato reviews for Thai Food To Go. ย Because these reviews swayed us to try this place, I feel like I need to add mine to the mix, as we were incredibly disappointed. ย We had takeaway massaman and green curry. ย The curries were watery and flavourless. The massaman wasn't a proper massaman, it tasted like it was made with a red curry base and they just added cashews. Meat was chewy, vegetables under cooked. A complete waste of money, we could have made better at home with the green curry paste in the fridge. Won't return.

Our favourite Thai restaurant on chapel st so far!!
Authentic flavours and great customer service! We have been back time and time again and have always been consistent!
Noble_rot
Always a great experience- this place was cool before the Windsor-end of Chapel St. became cool !! To start with, the food is authentic and MSG-free.!The menus strikes a balance between crowd-pleasers and house specialties ( can't go wrong with the Massaman curry and the squid salad). The service is always warm without being intrusive. It's the kind of place where I could dine alone , or with my mates , or with my parents.
Bun's Food Diaries
Came here for an early dinner Saturday evening and enjoyed a nice pad thai. The flavour was actually relatively gentle but delicious at the same time. You get four decent sized prawns, snow beans and carrots for about $16. My partner had the curry laksa and felt it was not bad but average.
The decor in here is kinda of random, as if someone went to an op shop and pulled out unmatching photo frames, chairs and tables but somehow it works. The music they played was relaxing as well.
Great food, very worth a visit! The staff were very friendly and helpful, and I love vintage decoration throughout the whole store!!! Delicious food with a big portion of food and very resealable price! The owner told me they are not using any MSG! Food was very clean and not salty (just right taste!). Well done Thai Food To Go and we will be back for sure!
Just A Girl Who Loves Food
Absolutely love this place! So quirky and different but never fails to impress with great food. Have ordered the pad Thai twice there and each time was fantastic. Staff are very friendly and just love the atmosphere.

We had dinner here on Friday night and the food was quite good and the price was very reasonable. The green chicken curry and the red beef curry was nice. The service was very quick and it's a good place to go if your out for something quick before having a good night on Chapel St.

Thai Food To Go is my favourite Thai food place for take out or eating in in the area (despite the name!). I actually love how they've done up the place and really enjoy eating in here. Very cosy.

The food is legit, and it get's me excited to go to Thailand again just thinking about it! Ingredients taste fresh, staff are great, and prices are reasonable. What more could you want?

My recommendation in the Pad See Ewe with chicken and their gorgeously light Roti.
Whats On The Grill?
Had the Duck, Lychee, Pineapple Curry take away and must say I thought it was great. Plenty of flavour and good kick of spice. Will come back and try the other dishes.

Ordered $60 worth of food through UberEATS. The restaurant gave my food away to someone other than my Uber delivery person. When I asked them to replace my order they said 'this isn't our fault. Call uber'. I can't comment on the food (as I never got it) but don't bother ordering delivery as someone else will just be eating your food for free
Sam Mular
The Massaman slow cooked lamb was amazing, especially with the coconut rice. Reasonably priced for the area and decent sized portions. We also got the red curry which was super nice! Good place!
Rebecca E
Extremely quick delivery that can't be faulted. I ordered the pad Thai (vegetable) and roti with peanut sauce. Both tasted great though the roti wasn't very hot. Only complaint would be to serve the pad Thai with lime for some extra taste.

Quality lost.. Uni Student Diner.. in a degrading mode...They do not keep the food authentic in consistency most of the time..

Yesterday's dinner . They had a decent menu and some Aussie version of thai but had quantity yesterday but now its totally ruined up with their Menu design and Ambiance.

I am a vegan and I got the tofu and I informed them regarding the customization of Menu.Owners run in CLICHE mode... The plates were not presented properly...
This is not ย a pocket friendly diner- All your orders sometimes done as an experiment...

It was fine during 2010 to 2012.. Now its just a try.. Junk food option to this place to fill your stomach.
Suburb Review
Does anyone in Melbourne know a good thai restaurant? I have yet to find one. ๐Ÿ˜ฃ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ๐Ÿ˜ค

Firstly props to this place for getting our food delivered quick.. but unfortunately you can't white wash thai food. You lose all the beautiful thai spices and flavours and you are left with bland, chinese food. Its not even thai anymore.

-Papaya salad was bland, its missing the kick.
-duck curry i didn't really enjoy, was abit too creamy.
-pad kee mao needed more sauce as it was plain. Was better when i added soy sauce.
-tom yum was plain too, no flavour. It actually tasted instant.

Thanks for the food but please improve by keeping authentic flavours and not water and tone it down. You have potential here :)
Although this place is not as good as The Thai, it is still the next best thing. And they deliver! The food is delicious especially the slow cooked lamb massaman curry! First choice when ordering Thai takeaway

Good, not great - so wanted to love this after thinking about ordering Thai for dinner all day.

Ordered a pad thai for the other half and a chicken mince larb for myself with a side of crispy tofu.

Not sure where the plentiful size others describe went with my order - although somewhat tasty thanks to the fish sauce and chilli, it was small - not much lettuce and only one slice of tomato. Was hoping for something a bit more substantial. The crispy tofu unfortunately wasn't crispy - soggy and chewy although one can perhaps assume this is a side effect of home delivery?

The pad thai which I sneakily pecked at before my husband came home looked as though it contained a lot of tender thigh meat however noodles seemed a bit congealed and there was a distinct lack of flavour that makes pad thai so delicious. The abundance of fresh veggies did makeup somewhat though and the portion was significantly more generous than my larb salad.

Hoping for a bit more punch in the Thai flavours and a bit more food. Will give it another try sometime on the basis of all the other positive reviews!

Best local Thai - The Pad Thai is amazing, as is their tofu or seafood massamun. The way they crisp their tofu is oh so good! Great relaxed vibe and reasonable prices. Love it here.

We've been going here for years and the food and service never disappoint! The menu has changed slightly over the years but it's always amazing!

Terrible, cold and unpresentable food!!! Never again! I Left all the food on the table for the first time in my life and we run out straight away.

Take away food tastes superb fresh and abundant with various vegetables.! Staff very welcoming and friendly. Rated 4.5 only because have not eaten in yet

Love it. ย I love my thai food and I love my green curry, and this is the best green curry I have found so far in my five years in Melbourne. ย Large meals with very generous portions of meat. ย I hate those places that are stingy on the chicken, but this place is certainly not. ย BYO wine too - makes for a good starting point on a Friday or Saturday night.

yes yes and yes. lovely cute service, delicious delicious food HUGE servings, took some home (50c for a takeaway container) to have for the next day. never been happier. so affordable so FKN DELICIOUS

Wonderful. This place never disappoints. Service is fantastic, and annoying requests are always accommodated. Dishes are super tasty (beef salad is a particular favourite), quickly served and the BYO offering is a bonus. Decor is quirky and very sweet; you'll feel like you're in a very strange share house. Perfect for a quick bite or a longer meal.

More trendy than authentic, Thai Food to Go has a relaxed atmosphere with eclectic kitsch furniture and a selection of vegetarian dishes. Despite the name, the food is tasty but not Thai. The green curry I ordered was less creamy than those of my liking (although perhaps healthier for it) and could have done with more kaffir lime, chilli and coriander - ingredients one would expect to be brought out fully in a Thai green curry. Overall, while it was tasty, it did not succeed in subsiding my craving for Thai food. There are a lot of vegetarian options including different curries, noodles, salads and stir fries. Thai Food to Go promotes itself as cheap and casual, but the curries are expensive for what they are. I get the feeling that the food has been watered down for 'Australian' taste buds. This is a pity. With its location and the crowd at Windsor, Thai Food to Go still has a dedicated local following. Posted by Elis

Delicious and relaxed. The food is always incredible, ive been there for dinner with my partner, parents, friends from out of town and they NEVER disappoint. The red duck curry is incredible and is a favourite among my family. They are always quick, the atmosphere is fun and friendly and the staff are super knowledgeable.
Definitely the place to go if you want a relaxed meal, if you're about to go out with the girls or just crave some amazing thai food.

Amazing food. Great service!. The food was amazing. The girl who served us was very helpful with helping me order for fructose and wheat allergies. I would highly recommend!

Pad Thai without bean sprouts!! As soon as their version hit the table I thought this ain't going to be great. The restaurant is full of Thais I don't understand why they can't get it that a lot of Australians have travelled to Thailand and enjoy a little spice.
Hay_11
Great authentic Thai, affordable and delicious. Being a Thai myself and having grown up on the food I can attest to the quality of this restaurant as being among the best in Melbourne in this price range. The experience of day-to-day eating in Thailand is more or less recreated and the food is very nice across the entire menu. Veg options do not suffer unlike in many places (and like in Thailand itself) but taste just as good or better. The staff and cooks are friendly, the portions are strong and the place is quite light on the wallet. The ambience is somewhat lacking and the seating is not enormously comfortable in some places however.

Comparing dishes bought from this place to another Thai restaurant on Chapel (Ghin Khopi), the result was so drastic as to render the latter in retrospect disgraceful. Green curry (gaeng kiaw waan) and massaman - spicy - are highly recommended.

Expensive and below standard Thai Food. I found this Thai option to be expensive, underimpressive, and left me feeling ill overnight and the next day!

The flavours and presentation were bland, and prices on the higher side of acceptable for local thai food. To underline this point, they offer an entree mixed dish special that's more expensive than if you ordered the entree dishes separately!?! Poor form really!

If you do find yourself compelled to eat there, try the vegetarian spring rolls, nice, plump and fresh, and probably not the culprit for a nasty case of an upset stomach overnight!

On the fence. Im on the fence regarding this restaurant. Service was fast thats for sure, wasnt overly impressed with fish cakes and curry puffs. Red Duck curry was lovely and green chicken curry inunspiring.
Very groovy little place for a quick bite, Im gonna say I like it, although not the best thai food eaten, just ok for me

Any place who's mission statement is 'Cook good food. Sell it. Have a couple of beers after work' has to be at least checked out. I love this place. I come here reasonably often for a quick, tasty, good value meal. Despite the name, I've never had takeaway, only ever eaten in. Smiley service, eclectic interior, great fun.

Fabulous. Service - absolutely fine. The courses arrived just at the right time, and the table was cleared exactly when it should have been.
Food - absolutely fine and delicious. We chose the betel leaves, fish cakes, coconut prawns, larb gai, fried tofu, and chinese broccoli. Couldn't fault it.
Ambience - absolutely fine. There was music playing which was discreet (that is: you could actually have a conversation).
All in all, a marvellous night.

The food here is amazing!

Great great Thai food!

Probably the best Thai in melbourne.

Good food. Thai food is the best i love thai food

My local regular thai. I never thought to write a review of this place as it's my local thai and i often come here for a quick meal with the kids...but having had such a shocking experience at jinda thai in collingwood, i thought it worth comparing! so this place is nothing fancy, actually quite the opposite, but the food is fantastic! the service is quick and attentive and they are all thai. they know their product and it is genuine honest thai food...i have never had a bad meal here in years of coming here! highly recommend the tom yum...right combination of sweet, salty, and spicy the way tom yum should be! enjoy!
Alyce Mee
Delicious. Had a fantastic meal here, the service was slow despite it not being overly busy but the food was well priced and SOOO filling. Great if you are in the mood for a quick meal.
MM
Like it for sure, always reliable , sadly used to be a lot better value for money and now is in bracket price wise of plenty of other nice options... But still frequent
Heather Joel
Just LOOOOVE this place. Some of the best Thai food I've had - and I love my Thai! Highly recommend the pad Thai - and love the funky retro interior.
JustWandering
Still good. Grilled beef consistently gets the thumbs up.

The dude also has a serious whiskey collection.

Delicious food with good price! really enjoyed it! "explosion of flavour" is awesome to start the dinner experience!
Lauren Marino
Singapore noodles- simple and yum
Kate
Awesome! It was suddenly being back in Thailand. Great flavors and really fresh. try the betel leaf for the explosion of flavor!
Josie
Best thai in melbound. Great food and cool retro furniture.
AC
Great great great. Awesome curries. With a lot of heat, which is great to see compared to majority of weak, spiceless curries at other Thai places. Love this for a quick Thai fix.
Sammie
Absolutely LOVE their red curry with tofu. Great pricing and serving sizes. id imagine that when busy, it would have a really nice, alternative atmosphere to the place :) try not to drive past it when looking for it on chapel street.. needs a better sign
Moose
Soooooo much onion. Yuck.
George
Cheap, tasty and friendly.. WE go here once a week, and have done for years. Food is flavoursome, and fresh, highly recommend.
Food Quest
Don't Bother. The service was poor, the food overpriced and underwhelming to say the least. With all of the other options on Chapel Street for dining I recommend to walk by and try something else.
Crackcat
I've been coming here for years and i have to say the food is ultimately hit and miss. at times the meals are faultless and at others VERY bland and underwhelming. i've found the meat to be very dry and over cooked on some occasions, particularly the chicken. the atmosphere is great and i think that's the only reason we still go there, the table arrangements are suitable for big groups and overall it has a nice vibe. of course i'll come here again but i don't expect to be blown away as the place seems to be going downhill since previous visits
Sophie
Great. I am fussy with food and love this place. We get take away weekly and are yet to be disappointed. Thai styled fried rice and pad thai are the best.
Ge_leslie
Downhill. The massaman beef curry was so bad! It taste watery, no flavor whats so ever. The Pad Thai - no flavor, just a big clump of sticky noodles.
So sad - because they place used to be excellent!
RZ
The blandest Pad Thai I've ever had, totally flavorless, it was a bunch of rice noodles coated in oil with a few veggies thrown in (and by veggies I mean broccoli and snowpeas), not like a traditional Pad Thai at all. The Pad See Ew was exactly the same dish but with soy sauce. Don't do it.
Tardar Sauce
Yum!. Love the veggie stir fry with cashew nuts! Is value for money.
WhoWhatEat
Terrible massman curry - the beef was dry and very chewy....try not to order this dish here!
Sarah
Bland Food To Go. Average and disappointing thai food. I was told by a friend that these guys do really good thai, after I was complaining that I hadn't found any decent thai since moving to Melbourne. We had the Green beef curry and the Tofu & Veg Massaman curry - both were bland and watery. Won't be going back.
Sarah
Great place gone down hill. The place used to be my favorite - now I will go to Ghin Kopi down the road for thai. The Som Tum salad was a bowl full of lettuce (?!) with hardly any papaya - and cost $10.50. We got singapore noodles and a pad thai which both were kind of flavourless and tasted like the same sauce had been used. We asked for a lemon - they didn't even have one (don't use real lemons in the kitchen?) and instead we got some lemon juice which i think came out out of a bottle. Staff are lovely though and good place to come for cheap noodles - just dont expect too much (but watch out - we got overcharged when we went to pay!)
Jay
Loved it. Great authentic thai food. Not cheap but you get what you pay for!

Will definitely be returning - although will take a thicker coat next time, brrrr cold inside!
NancyZ
The soup is tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive, 20$ for a hand full of vegi and see food. The rest taste good.
Alex Wise
Fast service. Decent meal, affordable and fast service.

Probably ranks a little higher than it should but still worth trying.
Noomer
Not sure. This joint seems to have got all their furnitures from bazaar down the road.

beef was overcooked, had some weird tasting salad which i eventually gotten to like. fried rice was very average.

not worth voting.
Jayjay
Thai food to go is my favourite place to get dinner. my FAVOURITE! The samui no names are different everytime and always yum! And the mains are beautiful! The best part, though, is the atmosphere and gorgeous interior. Go and have a nice time
Skujam
One of the best Thai spots around. Ate at Thai food to go last night, the place was super busy, noisy and just delightful. Service was good, drinks were at the table very quickly, and the food was served within what felt like seconds!
Food was fantastic, in particular the chicken jungle curry, which was very fresh, spicy and had all the classic Thai flavours you would expect. Make sure you try the peppered prawn crackers, they are served with a spicy chilli dipping sauce which really hits the spot.
All in all, great food, great service and at a more than reasonable price, go now and enjoy.
Noddy
Great Thai place. Very pleasant staff. The place was quite loud & busy. I ordered the Pad See Ew chicken and noodle dish, which was very good, and servings were quite large. Overall very happy with the food, and very reasonable prices too.
Waz
Windsor end of chapel street @ Toorak prices?!. Hmmm, me thinks they target Rong demographic with capital rrr. Don't get me wrong more prawns than usual but for $19 in a small tub and $5.50 for prawn cracker, which I stupidly assumed it was prawn roll for that price, it was a tad exxy me thinks. Good thai food though...
Vicky Eats
Whether its dine in or take away, Thai Food To Go never diappoints! Can't help but have it at least once a fortnight!
Clujen
Went here for the first time on Friday night with some friends who raved to me about how good the food was.. I have to say this was the best Thai food I've had in a very very long time! We shared a few entrees and mains including musman curry, Thai beef salad and two other dishes I can't remember the name of. We byod a few bottles of wine and I was extrememly impresses when the bill came to $22 each (there were 5 of us)! Highly recommended
Evil_sommelier
Awful. Do not go to this place for takeaway food, particularly if you expect to eat the food once you return home. My partner's comment 'unfulfillng...the highlight was the roti bread purchased at Patee Thai next door- (Thai Food to Go has no roti, nor coconut rice) The menu was confusing and even though I am not Thai, could not help but notice all the spelling errors on traditional dishes. Rubbery old prawns, soggy cashew nuts, and chicken that resembled grey, washed out tampons were among the many ingredients that disgusted us. We are please however, to have topped up on our takeaway container collection. Thai Food to Go straight in the bin.
Tim
Good food usually, but, avoid the laksa at all costs! It's not a traditional laksa and it fails big time. Otherwise good service and food...
Bel85
Never a let down. I LOVE this place, the food is great, very very reasonable and really tasty. I have never had a bad meal. The flavours or strong and great and I love the lychee slushy drink....will keep coming here
Outandabout
Service pretty average but food is good and cheap. Decor basic but ok
Jesse Windebank
Great service, food was fresh and delicious and prices were super cheap - one of the best Thai restaurants around
Christian
Food was fantastic... Fresh, light and cheap. Highly recommend.
Mark Binette
"Dirty Thai" as it's affectionately called by locals is a great cheap eatery for consistently delicious Thai food. With a cute shabby interior the place is effortless in a good way. Make sure you try the betel leaf parcels if they haven't sold out!
SHAREEN
Could have been better.... The quality of the chicken in my curry wasn't all that great. Lots of fat. However, my husbands beef noodle dish was really nice.

It was a nice place, lots of people, 70's style furniture, they even got us our food in under 10min. We took the food home.

All I can say is it could have been better, even for the price.
S
