Staff and service are excellent. Great German food and a good selection of German beers.
Arrived here on a weekday and it was very quiet. Was greeted quickly and told to sit anywhere we liked. The ambience was great, decor seemed like I was sitting in a cosy restaurant in Germany.
Ordered a chicken schnitzel that came with fries and salad. For $23 it was fantastic! The food served a large helping and even decided to get dessert too. Best strudel I've had in a long time, with a side of kiwi, pineapple, cream and ice cream.
Overall the food was great, large selection of beers and schnapps. Probably best to visit on the weekend when it's more buzzing. Great service!

I’d avoided going here for years based on earlier Zomato reviews, but noticing a slight uplift in them and an apparent change of management, I gave it a go with some friends the other day. I’m glad I finally went here - it well and truly exceeded my expectations.
The bretzl was soft and warm with satisfying shards of salt that went down well with a cold German beer. The small veal schnitzel I had was delicious, thin, and not dry, despite the outside being perfectly crispy. It was also quite large, despite being a small version! The potato salad and cranberry sauce it was served with both accompanied the schnitzel wonderfully. My dining companions enjoyed their wieners, and groestels. I also have to recommend that you save room for the apfelstrudel for dessert! It’s served with custard and ice cream and isn’t too soft nor too dry; the filling is sweet yet offers a distinct apple taste, and the pastry still flaky.
The vibe is very old school, which oozes a lot of charm and appeal to me. There was a musician playing traditional German drinking songs and lots of old photos and paintings of German towns on the walls, which is quaint. With a starter of bretzl, a main, a dessert and a 500ml beer each the bill came to around $50 a head - maybe on the pricier side of things, but I will be back nonetheless!

Staff were really friendly and accomodating, and incredibly efficient.
I had the chicken schnitzel, which was great. Amazing portion size and great value for money. Add the mushroom sauce and you're onto a winner Unbelievable range of imported German beers. Make sure you wash them down with one of their pretzels! #amazeballs

Wow, this place was everything I hoped it would be and more! The wood panelling and European beers took me back to holidays of my youth. The walls are clad with hunting trophies and oddities, definitely worth a once off visit for a beer and a look. The food is also good, I had the ham, sauerkraut, mash and gravy. The portions were very healthy too 👍
We returned after some time and a new chef! The menu was smaller, but made much more sense than before, and we liked it. Small requests and changes were easily catered for. There was a greater complexity and sophistication to the dishes than previously. But, the veal schnitzel, oh dear! Mine was at least 2 cm thick, which it shouldn't be. The rest of the food was good, but not only was the schnitzel thick, it was over cooked and very chewy. They should try the schnitzel @ Budapest in Elsternwick. Paper thin and so tender and moist. Ending with a plus, the girl who waited on us was brilliant, quick on the uptake, courteous, with perfect timing.

Not sure what the neg reviewers were expecting tbh. It's a German style RSL, and if you're after a good beer and a hearty meal you've come to the right place. My apprentice and I went in for a Friday lunch and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Both our schnitzel variants were great and the pilsner on tap was the perfect accompaniment.
Have been here on numerous occasions, enjoy it every time, warm atmosphere, lovely ambience and atmosphere. Love trying the German beers. Always go for the veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce, arguably, one of the best in Melbourne. The coffee barista needs some lessons, scalded milk in cappacinos should be a thing of the past in Melbourne.
The food perhaps wasn’t the highest quality, but with the prices, the service and the novelty factor combined, the overall experience was very enjoyable. 7.5/10
I am really not sure how the 'like' rate is so high here, at best this was bad pub food. Meals were small, bland, and if it wasn't for the group of German guys at the next table playing cards and drinking beer, it wouldn't have felt German at all...Although I did note the German club members weren't eating!! This could have been my local...instead I won't be back
Groupon meal. Ambience is perfect, very much like a cottage or b&b. So cosy! Served by a very charismatic German lady. The soup entrees were mediocre, but the pea was the better of the two (as our waitress advised!). Mains were delicious but portions seem smaller than in the pictures previously seen here - probably something to do with it being a groupon meal? (We weren't too fussed as we usually roll out of German restaurants in a food coma.) I had the "farmer's plate": frankfurt, bratwurst, weisswurst, leberkase and a small piece of roast pork served with mash and sauerkraut and one onion ring. Previous (non-groupon) pictures here show much more roast meat included, which would have been nice, but what I got was yummy nonetheless. We had the apple strudel for dessert and it was spot on, with a deliciously crisp pastry. Would definitely come back for another heartwarming meal.
We didnt mind it. Good atmoshphere, great setting. Makes you feel like youre back in Germany.
The food was good, groupon add did state soup AND bread for entree, but we can only have one.
Broccoli and pea Soup was beautiful, so was the apple strudel dessert.

Food was pretty average but the ambiance is spot on. Super friendly vibe, chatty regulars, nice staff and über-tall pints. The 'live' music (guitarist riffing out of key and time to backing tracks) was absurd but I dunno, it kinda worked. Don't come if after amazing food, but do come if wanting a nice, casual, kid friendly atmosphere.
Meat & Beer. Great for a night with the gents.

- RSL style atmosphere
- Small variety (but what they have is excellent)
- Menu doesn't change throughout the year, so can get boring for repeat visits (have been about 5 times)
- More seniors than young'ins so perhaps skip this for a first date
Absolutely loved the food, drinks and ambiance of this place. You cannot at all judge what the inside is like from seeing only the outside of this place. What an unexpected surprise it was when we entered the dining room after climbing the flight of stairs. Very homely and there was also someone playing the accordion! The food was top notch, the crackling on the pork was just perfect. The 1L Stein was great and it's just a shame the food was so good I ate everything and also helped finished my wife's food, that I couldn't finish the beer!! Was so full but so totally worth it. Great place! We'll be back for sure!

Absolutely amazing place with its unassuming front on Dandenong Road. We had a birthday party here and the staff were more than accommodating for us. Plenty of Beers and Schnaps to try. We got a few platters to share and we were all blown away by how good the food was. As we munched our way through our feast we all individually spoke of how we will come back again. The staff definitely made this the place it is. We will be back for sure. Thank you

Octoberfest Party Feast
We celebrated Octoberfest 2021 with the family pack club Tivoli prepared for us today ~ what better way to enjoy Octoberfest in lockdown!!! We ordered the family pack which provided a variety and great selection of food, beer and goodies. The food was well cooked, sealed and packed perfectly in readiness for lunchtime, it was still hot when I brought it home, all we had to do was unpack and eat and the beers (Franziskaner Weissbier; Plundstäder Edel Pils + complimentary beer Edinger Kristall)
were nice and cold in readiness to scull down on such perfect melb weather.
The Octoberfeast family pack included pretzel with paprika cheese dip (yum); slow roasted shoulder of pork; onion beer gravy; BBQ spiced fried chicken; Mixed selection grilled German sausages; German style potato salad; German slaw salad with crispy noodles; sauerkraut and for dessert poached pears in cinnamon & glühwein) ~ yum yum yum!!
Tanya and the team welcomed us whole heartedly and def delivered on their presentation and selection!! Def value for money 💰 Thanking German Club Tivoli for their great service plus complimentary drinks and goodies. We look forward to visiting your restaurant when restrictions ease!!
My wife and I enjoyed a lovely meal here tonight. It was like going to a good friends place for dinner, quality ingredients, large servings and friendly service and hospitality, we were made to feel welcome. We will return and bring friends and family to enjoy a quality dining experience.
One of the best places to hangout with friends. The food is lovely the atmosphere and the beer are the best in Town.
Although this restaurant sits at the side of the road between my home and work, I had never bothered to step in once except today. The experience turned out quite delightful. Food are very delicious and come with generous portion. The only reason to take one star off is because of the cherry chocolate cake my friend ordered for dessert. She said it is dry and stale. Other than that, we both like the place very much, will come back sometime.
Nice venue. Seemed quite authentic. The pork knuckle was delicious I will be going again in the future for sure. Good selection of on tap German beers as well as bottled German beers.
