Review Maha East - Windsor

Domina Alikakos
It was a great experience sitting at the bar watching the barman making various drinks. I ate all different snacks and mezze style dishes which were delicious. I want to thank the staff for their patience in explaining the variety of food to me. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I had an awesome night.

🐟 cured & torched kingfish 🥟 turkish beef dumplings 🎃 butternut squash 🍤 kataifi wrapped prawns 🐑 slow cooked lamb shoulder 🍫 milk chocolate parfait 🍮 cardamom custard 🏠: @mahaeast 📍: Chapel St, Windsor 📝: Visited Shane Deila’s Maha East yesterday, a the sister venue to the award-winning Maha Restaurant, located in Windsor. It’s the place to go to for a nice meal to experience the unique and modern Middle Eastern tastes. ❤️: For the snacks, I loved the Fried bun with taramasalata, salmon caviar, dill—perfect for carbs lovers! For the mains, I think all were delicious, from the 🐮🥟🇹🇷 Turkish Beef Dumplings to 🐑 Slow Roasted Lamb Shoulder to 🎃 Ras el hanout roasted butternut squash.

Gorgeous and very intimate venue - great for date night. We ordered a la carte and glad we did, the set menu would be way too filling for us. Loved the kingfish, borek, katifi prawns and most of all Turkish dumplings. Great service

Our dining experience was top notch from beginning to end. We had the tasting menu and every single dish had a unique twist that elevated the flavour profile to another level. Service was also very attentive without being over bearing. Will definitely be back! Highly recommend 👌🏻

Delicious! Loved everything we ordered - bread, hummus, beef dumplings, lamb shoulder, and chamomile cocktail! I prefer this over Maha Restaurant in terms of food and service.

Super fun flavours can be found here. We tried the vegetarian menu and weren’t disappointed. Good service as well.

If anything the staff were too attentive. Seated at the bar our drinks were never empty. Celebrating our anniversary the staff were all so lovely in making sure we were well looked after and it appeared everyone knew about it. The food was an experience and with so many beautiful flavours. I will be coming back!

Had one of the best meals ever here .
Beautifully prepared and presented, they have gone to a lot of trouble on the details.
Staff professional, helpful and friendly.
Will definitely include Maha East on our frequent visit list.

Biggie Smalls Windsor is no more. Shane Delia has replaced his Chapel Street kebab shop with Maha East, the fun and casual cousin of his Maha flagship. It is still Maha, so the share-style menu is Middle Eastern-inspired, and it boasts a strong wine and cocktail list.

LIT! 🔥: been to Maha a few times and i can never get over how delicious the hummus is. The fresh bread they give to scoop up the goodness is to die for.
We had the set menu and there wasn’t a dish that we didn’t like. Just a special shout out to their take on dumplings as it’s not what we expected but it was soft and flavourful.

Also got to meet the head chef Shane Delia and he is super lovely!

Will be back to one of my fave restaurants x

Rated: 4.5/5

To try:
- fried bun; tasty combo of savoury donut with the taramasalata and salmon cavier
- hummus; no visit to Mahah is complete without having the hummus! The crispy sage and housemade bread meant this dish was finished in a heartbeat
- beef turkish dumplings (Manti); tiny, adorable, delicious

To skip:
- roast lamb shoulder; portion was on the smaller side and it wasn't as flavoursome as expected
- desserts, order an extra meze or two instead!

Decided to try this restaurant and was not disappointed!
Had the soufra menu and it was a great way to taste what this place was offering. Yum. The food was excellent in every respect. The wait staff were helpful.

My advice is DEFINITELY go to this restaurant, but definitely DON'T get the set menu option.
Had the degustation 12 course menu. A sold 3.5
Service and atmosphere was excellent but many of the dishes despite flawless execution were just ok in terms of taste and texture. I blame Shane Delia. The biggest fault with this restaurant seems to be the Set menu design. If we'd ordered well from the a la carte menu I'm sure Is be giving this place a solid 4 or even 4.5 but The degustation was heavy, lacked fresh/green elements and the journey itself was very poorly designed. For example the first 3 dishes are deep fried. And it's 7 dishes in before anything green appears.

Pros: A fantastic variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes to choose from. A great place to take your veggi friends. Service is great, wine and cocktail list is great. Atmosphere and music lovely.

Cons: Degustation is not well designed with some hits but quite a few misses.

Best dishes: Asparagus, Fatoush, Chick Peas, Lentil Dumplings. Strawberry Granita, Cucumber Cocktail.

Middle Eastern with a contemporary twist. I’ve not eaten at the original Maha, but this place is in the same vein as Pazar or Gerard’s. Tasty morsels served up with an amazing choice of booze. Great value and attentive staff

Just had a wonderful meal here. We will be back. Great friendly service and delicious food. Standouts are the caviar donuts, lamb borek and chicken gnocchi. As always I love the pomegranate cocktails. Great job guys.

Really great food, proportion were large and none we ordered tasted bad- they were presented well and lived up to Maha’s standard. Service could be better as it was a birthday but weren’t offered anything special or suggestions.

Tried Maha East for the first time yesterday and was extremely impressed with the food. Had the beef dumplings (manti) along with a number of dishes and was extremely satisfied. Will definitely be back.

Nice atmosphere coupled with great service and delicious food. Our only criticism was that portion sizes on the set menu were far too small for our table of 5. To their credit, Shane called us to discuss where they could improve after I filled out an online feedback form. This goes to show they aren't running the place with a big ego, and are willing to take positive feedback onboard for the benefit of future diners. Good luck for the future! Looking forward to returning.

This will soon become one of many glowing reviews for this magnificent restaurant which has just opened in our backyard. It's a pity that the faultless food was let down by questionable service - hopefully only due to teething issues. On a lousy wintry Melbourne night we were left standing with our coats as three staff members tried to sort out our booking. Communication seemed to be the issue however when seated, everything improved. Each dish is unique and we sat there trying to figure out how they were created. We were still discussing one of the specials - Mooloolaba prawns - the next day. Beef dumplings, lamb shoulder and the kingfish were standouts among dish after dish of surprises. The night was completed with dreamy desserts.

Awesome new addition to chapel street. Lovely intimate atmosphere and very professional service. Food was delicious as well. We tried the signature taramasalata fried buns, the lamb borek, the hummus, the kingfish, the cold cut chicken, the beef manti, the corn and the zucchini side dishes. Then we ordered the Turkish delight donuts for dessert. I would highly recommend the taramasalata buns. So tasty. The corn and the kingfish were also fantastic in particular . The Turkish delight cocktail was also great- much more on the sour side than sweet which I loved.

An amazing night with out with mates. A modern, moody dining room, beautiful in its simplicity.
We opted to choose our own dishes s starting the fried buns, octopus and Turkish beef dumplings. Octopus was a stand out.
For mains we had the lamb shoulder, fried chicken gnocchi, rice and burnt corn. Fairly priced for chapel street I believe. The wait staff were very knowledgeable and genuinely warm and friendly.
WILL BE BACK.

What a lovely experience our lunch at Maha East was today. Gorgeous welcoming space and warm friendly staff offering great cocktails and interesting wine list.

Now, onto the food. Wow what a ride! Started with the kingfish, was explosion of flavour - great start. We then had the fried bun with taramasalta which was so good, a must have as are the lamb borek’s with raisin jam - my favourite. We had a special king prawn dish which I hope makes the menu and finished with the octopus & chickpeas - the octopus was so beautifully tender with amazing flavours. We were given some gorgeous bread to soak up all the beautiful sauce, the bread is perfection salty and doughy deliciousness.

Great value, delicious food we are already looking forward to our next visit to try more from the menu.
