Review Ton & Co - Windsor

I has a wonderful night at Gaijin, with my Mum and sister. The sushi and sashimi platters are a must try, and did not disappoint. I highly recommend if you’re looking for delicious Japanese fusion cuisine in South Yarra.
Amanda
Gaijin is a little gem of a restaurant! Located within close proximity of the train station, it is convenient to get to and has a delightfully large range of sushi rolls to pick from! They also offer ALL YOU CAN EAT on Weekdays @ $55 per head. Good value and you can order to your hearts content! If you’re craving Japanese and particularly if you’re in the area, Gaijin hits the spot 👌🏻 The dishes off their ala carte menu were also delicious - you have to get their takoyaki! Comes with a generous sprinkle of torched cheese and seared salmon chunks. Also the volcano salad and tataki are really yummy 🤤

I think I’m in a sushi heaven now 🤤 Their Tasmanian sushi rolls are to die for, very delicious! This one is a must order They have a new menu called ‘Volcano salad’ $16 (it’s not on their menu book yet but you can order it). It consists of seaweed and crab stick salad with fresh salmon sashimi cuts and tempura crunch. It was pretty good 😋 worth to try! Their sashimi also great and fresh Stars of the show: Sushi platter $30 (4 types of sushi rolls,) - Spider vs Dragon (👍👍👍👍👍) - Melbournian (👍👍👍👍👍) - Tasmanian (👍👍👍👍👍) - Rainbow (👍👍👍👍) They also offer Sushi AYCE adult $42 and kid $15 Follow me on IG @kristinesubagiyo for more food reviews

Y’all I found one of the best Japanese restaurants in south Yarra - @gaijinmelbourne ! Me and my friends enjoyed every dish (except the teriyaki Beef sushi which was a bit dry and tasteless). I ordered the $36 sushi platter which serves 16 pieces of sushi (4 types can be selected ). The crispy salmon, melbournian roll and cheese sensation roll was amazing! The miso soup took me by surprise and it was quite authentic. Definitely would return to try the infamous Tasmanian rolls and other dishes. The sashimi and Chicken Karaage was also well loved by my friends who ordered them. My friend said she will definitely return for the Karaage. 😍 Check out more reviews at IG- melbournefoodiebabe

If you're starving and is craving for sushi for dinner, then you come to the right place. Although Gaijin serves all you can eat, a ala cartè menu with various of sushi selection is also available. This place is easily accessed, can accommodate quite a lot of people indoor, however, they have no outdoor seating. The staff are friendly and helpful, and has a decent price. I had a last minute booking and fortunately there were some spots left for an early dinner. If you want to have all uoi can eat sushi, make sure to finish everything as they have overleft charged. But of course it depends on how much left it would be. Overall, this is a good dinner option in the area.

ALL YOU CAN EAT: Fair prices for all this tasty and fresh food! Customer service is friendly and polite. To the people who says in their review that “the food take ages to come out”: Well lovely people, if you want fresh food, made on the spot for you, it takes the time that it takes! Otherwise go to a fast food! 🍣This place is superb! I’ll be back for sure! 🍜🍲 Picture below are : •salmon & tuna sashimi •dynamite roll •crunchy salmon roll/spider vs dragon roll •seaweed salad P.S. New Yorker roll were too good that I forgot to take the pic! 😝

Loved the sushi and sashimi platter at Gaijin! It was a perfect way to try many different pieces. The miso soup and sea weed salad were also delicious. My partner and I will be back to try the all you can eat soon!

Rainy night dinners near Prahran Market, Ganji Japanese Fusion a dinner spot known for all their AYCE sushi 22 types! A lot of rice so recommended for groups of 4+. . 🧀🥟 A friend recommended the off the menu cheesy seafood gyoza, and it was amazing! A blend of cheeses, great cheese pull, I'm coming back for this and I ain't sharing XD . 🍆 Nasu Degaku, roasted eggplant with sweet ginger miso and sesame. We love eggplant and this was really nice, not as sweet as Calia's and he said you can't taste the miso enough - but there's many kinds of miso out there. . 🍥 Seared Scallop with butter soy, mirin, bonito flakes and pickled ginger. I like it but don't love it, I've also never had seared scallops before, always getting it sashimi style. It really relied on that ginger, sushi ginger which is strong! . 🍣 Our big plate was the Gaijin platter with two rolls (half serve) from that extensive list, 9 assorted sashimi, seaweed salad and a side portion of the special salmon mayo salad. It also comes with miso soup but they forgot that. . 🦀 Melbournian roll - crab salad, cream cheese topped with spicy salmon, tempura crunch, masago, special mayo and teriyaki sauce. Delicious! This is the one with all the stuff on top of it. 🐍 His pick was the 'Spider x Dragon' with eel, soft shell crab but also cream cheese - where he discovered he doesn't like cream cheese in sushi XD Also I think I'm freaked out by soft shell crab... . Desserts? Always. His picks: 🍵Matcha creme brulee & 🍨 trio ice cream: matcha, red bean, black sesame. Two flavours had a little ice in them but the green one crystalized spectacularly with an even distribution... I thought it was undissolved matcha but he reckons it was cooled too fast or not cool enough when it went into the freezer. The creme brulee was excellent. . Service was excellent, I love that they have the two booths at the front that felt like a private dining experience. Do book if you want that table (for 4 people max). Highly recommend for date night, after confirming no one has a seafood allergy XD . 📍@gaijinmelbourne // Prahran Mkt 💵 Damage $90 (paid $40, won a comp)

Really good food. Very authentic, Reminds me of being in Japan. Great service. Had the takeaway pork tonkatsu with rice and miso.
Alex
This is not only authentic tasting Japanese food, but A+ quality Japanese food. You simply can't go wrong with this if you are craving Tonkatsu, this is the best Melbourne has to offer.

We walked past Ton & Co during lunchtime, so we decided to get some takeaway to try. We'd heard about this place before for its amazing tonkatsu, so we were excited to see it was open and there was a 10% discount for all takeaway! We tried the striploin and the rib-eye, and they were both fantastic. Both were very juicy and tender. We got the curry and miso sauce with them. The original tonkatsu sauce they came with were also great! The rice and miso soup were also great, and balanced out the meal. The miso soup didn't seem to be out of the packet, but rather very fresh and homemade. We were very satisfied with the meal. We were also impressed with the friendly service. We'll definitely be back when we get a hankering for good katsu! 🤤🤤😋👍🏿

We’ve had the pork ribeye and striploin along with curry sauce and their dark miso sauce. The pork has a nice mouth-feel as they are cooked just right, fatty but not oily. Both of them were outstanding and you can taste the effort the chef has put into the dishes. This is probably the best tonkasu in melbourne.
Tj Khoo
Had the striploin, even takeaway it was so good! I need to try the rib eye tonkatsu next, which is supposed to be better!

We had such a wonderful meal at Ton & Co over the weekend, and glad we tried their amazing pork tonkatsu.

Perfectly cooked and crumbed, tender and juicy - that’s how you’ll get to enjoy your choice of tonkatsu. You can choose either their ‘Pork Ribeye cut Tonkatsu’ or ‘Pork Striploin cut Tonkatsu. The ribeye is tender and juicy with a higher fat content, while the striploin is leaner. If you’re trying this for the first time, try out both to share to see which one you prefer! And although both are delicious, we ended up loving the striploin more!

Apart from getting their house-made tonkatsu sauce, you can also choose from a selection of sauces/add-ons. We ordered the Ribeye with Nagoya-style Dark Miso sauce and the Striploin with Ebi Katsu (with tartare sauce) - so good!

We also loved their Ox Tongue skewers and Japanese Potato Salad which has an extra kick to it! Be sure to try these!!! Lastly we completed our meal with a glass of honey plum wine and a refreshing beer 🍻

Truly, truly enjoyed our feast here!
Phoebe Tang
Excellent rib eye and ebi katsu.
Jay Els
Yes ,They are pork tonkatsu specialist ! I loves the way they are ,every dish made with love and passion ,perfect cooked and good quality of pork . Juicy and tender this is the best pork katsu in Melbourne ,i think :)
Pyro
Went with a mate of mine, I ordered the pork rib eye cut tonkatsu which came with tonkatsu sauce and side of white cabbage and honey sesame sauce and he ordered the rib eye with ebi katsu (prawn) cutlet. Also ordered ox tongue skewers and chicken thigh skewers. The tonkatsu meat was delicious, not dry, tender, full of flavor, good fat content with that crumb, was superb, the tonkatsu sauce was balanced with sweet and sour and the honey sesame sauce that came with the cabbage was the best sesame dressing I’ve ever had. The ox tongue which was an 18hr cook the best I’ve had and I’ve had a fair few, this one was nice and tender, each mouthful was heaven with that tare sauce, togarashi and sesame oil. The chicken thigh was good but if I had to order skewers again I’d go with ox tongue. Overall I found this place excellent, service was excellent, they apologized for the rush as it was getting busy which was fine. I’d definitely come back

iMO Could be the closest taste to katsukura so far. Just missing the Japanese vibes & ambience.. Overall, well done 👌.
Ox tongue very tender, #recommended

I’m writing a food review for the first time because Ton & Co absolutely deserves it! Ordered the ribeye cut and it was so crispy, tender and juicy without any hint of greasiness! The cabbage salad was refreshing too. We ordered a separate Japanese curry sauce and it went well with the pork! WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK SOON!

I'm not an expert of tonkatsu, but what we had were tasty! The beef tongue is very tender and you could feel it's melting in your mouth. Staff are very friendly:) I meant to give 4.5/5.

Cozy place with amazing food and very friendly staff! My partner and I were suddenly craving Tonkatsu, but didn’t realise there was a Tonkatsu speciality restaurant right here in Melbourne. We ordered the ribeye with traditional Tonkatsu sauce and it was so crispy on the outside and tender and fatty on the inside. We also ordered the ox tongue skewers and potato salad, both of which were incredible as well (the skewers were just so tender!). The staff were very informative and very helpful with our orders since it was our first time there. One word of advice: be sure to make a reservation as they can be fully booked up! Definitely will come back here again.
Eatwithhendri
I must say I love tonkatsu a ton!
If you are a fan of premium Japanese deep fried breaded pork cutlet with variety of high quality cut of meat, I can't recommend this place enough.
Every single bite from our meals is crafted with passion and solid Japanese touch.

We were blown away with how juicy, soft and tender the rib eye is. It's served with the orginal tonkatsu sauce and shredded fresh cabbage.
Another highlight was the ox tongue skewers which left my mate speechless as they're so perfect.
Striploin on curry sauce would be perfect for those who prefer a leaner cut and feel less guilty
Jrwhelan87
Tried both the tonkatsu and the Ox Tongue. Some of the best tonkatsu I've gotten in Melbourne. Worth a visit, but make sure you book in advance!
Shin
Tried the signature (fattier cut) and the striploin (leaner cut).

The signature was definitely something new to me as I dont recall ever having such luxurious texture for tonkatsu in my dining experience. However, I personally still prefer the leaner cut but I would recommend people to try out the signature at least once.

Ox tongue skewers were so soft and chunky (not in a bad way) that they didn't taste like beef to me 😂 It tasted like a big chunk of salmon melting away in my mouth.

I really enjoyed the dining experience and hope to return in the near future.
Edward Gauw
This was amazing. Loved every single dish I had. Didn’t take a photo of the ebi katsu as it was devoured within seconds!

Hello. Imnikki
Ton & Co has been, and still is one of my favourite place to dine in Melbourne. A perfect example of doing just one thing and excelling in it, Ton & Co, as the name suggests, focuses on tonkatsu of the highest quality.

Currently there are two types of cuts available - the striploin and the rib eye. The former is leaner and meatier, while the latter has a more distinct layer of fat. Choosing which is the better cut is akin to choosing a favourite child - extremely difficult but comes down to a matter of preference. Both equally juicy and tender, and crumbed to a golden and crisped perfection.

The tonkatsu is not the only highlight here. Do not go pass the ox tongue skewers. Melt-in-your-mouth chunks of ox tongue, perfectly marinaded, this will induce a foodgasm I assure you.

Just as impressive is the ebi katsu. The freshness of the prawns used is evident, and them massive prawns are panko-crumbed to provide the most satisfying crunch ever. And not forgetting the dessert! Creamy and rich matcha cheesecake with matcha ice cream. Pro tip - it comes with hojicha ice cream but matcha on matcha is definitely the better pairing.

As with the delicious pork, the sauces here are also made in-house. That tartare sauce which came with the ebi katsu is what dreams are made off, I tell you.

If it's your first time here with a friend, I suggest you order two different cuts to share, find out which cut you prefer, and just keep coming back for that. Easy right?

Highly recommended! Thank you for the amazing meal.

Rating 3.8/5

Visited Ton & Co with family and across us we tried the Signaure Ribeye, and ordered the striploins with onion gravy, jap curry and dark miso sauce.

The tonkatsu itself is cooked very well, probably the best I've tasted from Melbourne, with nice juicy pink meat with the right balance of tenderness and chew.
However, personally it could have done with somewhat more seasoning but I guess that's what the sauces were for right?

Unfortunately the sauces were quite disappointing, with the Japanese curry far underseasoned, "weak" is how we described it. The onion gravy and dark miso were good but forgettable, probably not worth paying extra for considering you could use the base tonkatsu sauce that comes with the plain tonkatsus.

We also ordered the ox tongue, seeing as we'd always enjoyed them elsewhere but again were disappointed due to underseasoning. The tare was only slightly sweet and slightly salty, again "weak" similarly to the curry. The meat itself was cooked quite tender, but was almost tasteless which was very unusual. You can find far better in Melbourne.

Despite the shortcomings in seasoning, would still give this place a 3.8/5 due to the quality of the tonkatsu themselves (can you really give a high rating if only 2 menu items are good?). The meat quality is similar to if not above that found in Japan. Serving sizes were excellent, you will be leaving full (with lots of free cabbage if needed). Overall would recommend for tonkatsu enthusiasts, though avoid the extra sauces.

The Tonkatsu Specialist in the heart of Windsor!

They specialize in high quality meats and what makes it special here is that they cure and rest them in house for about 3 – 4days. What you would find is that the meat is extra tender and juicy and the curing has made a big difference.

There are two different types of tonkatsu, the rib eye and striploin and we ordered both to try. It is good to try both as they were different and the textures of the meat is different as well. The tonkatsu comes with a few different sauces and my favourite is the Japanese curry and the Dark Miso Sauce. The flavours complements the tonkatsu very well and there was a mixture of sweet and savoury. The portion of each tonkatsu is quite big and is good for sharing.

The Ebi Tempura was really good and I highly recommended it, the batter was light and crunchy and the textures were good. What made is different was the sauce, as I could just have the ebi and sauce on its own.

The other highlight has got to be the ox tongue skewers, it was definitely not your ordinary ox tongue as it came in bigger chunks and is nicely marinated. The meat was soft and I really enjoyed the flavours.

Make sure you have stomach space for desserts as the matcha cheesecake and ice cream was really good. I enjoyed the rich flavours of Matcha in the cheesecake and the textures were nice, it went really well together with the Matcha Ice cream. There is an option to swap the Matcha ice cream to Hojicha ice cream if you’re wanting a mixture of flavours.

The décor here is simple and elegant but most importantly they are big on flavours and it is a great take on Japanese dishes. The staff is really knowledgeable and they gave us a good background on each dish and helped us to decide on what to order.

So I didn’t expect to revisit this resto just after a week, but it just happened!! As recommended by a HK friend, we went to this humble place for Tonkatsu last Sat evening.

Sharing one Ribeye - more tender and fatty, and one Striploin - typical cut of pork Japanese use to make Tonkatsu. TRUST ME, BOTH OF THEM WERE SO TENDER, JUICY AND CRISPY!!! Did like their curry sauce and Ebi Katsu (deep fried prawn 🍤) as well. Most importantly, it costs only AUD 26 / AUD 21 even for dinner😍

The Ox-Tongues were so nicely seasoned and grilled.

Staffs were friendly and patient explaining the difference between the two cuts.

Best tonkatsu in town! The best and I can’t emphasize more!!!

Me and my friends always came in super late, like literally an hour before the closing time (because guys takes longer time to get ready🙄) but the waitress were really friendly and patient.

Ordering were easy, straight up ox tongue skewers, pork tomahawk, steam rice and matcha cheesecake (my friends added ebi🍤 and curry sauce🍛 and they were really good too!).

Their pork tomahawk🐖 are dense, juicy and savoury. Never skip the salad with the sesame dressing! Super refreshing to cleanse your palate (p.s. I had a dream eating their salad🤭). Ox-tongue skewers🐂 are super soft, the sauce they used concealed it’s very slight fishy taste (trust me, you won’t be able to taste the fishiness). The matcha cheesecake🍵 (I love matcha so this is heaven to me) has a faint bitterness and a tangy taste, paired with the hojicha ice cream, it’s like a perfect world😍.

Price was about $31-$40/pp, depending on your urge to reorder another portion of the tomahawk😂 my guy friends always order a second portion.

Definitely must add this place to your must-try list!✨

Invited for dinner, Ton & Co is now my go to tonkatsu restaurant. I love how the menu is small with tonkatsu being the main menu item. We tried the ox tongue skewers and the two different pork cuts; strip loin and rib eye.
The ox tongue skewers were so amazing. It was cooked to perfection and literally melt in your mouth. This was a big surprise as most ox tongue dishes I've tried have a chewy texture.
It's great how they offer two cuts of pork, the strip loin is a leaner cut where as the rib eye has more fat marbling to it. Both are extremely tender and juicy but I'd suggest if it is your first time to try both cut to see what is your preference. Small note, the meat is slightly pink when served due to the brining process.
Overall I cannot recommend this place enough. Authentic Japanese, delicious food and great atmosphere.

Best pork tonkatsu I have ever tried in Melbourne by far! I don't know if it was because the meat was aged, but both pork ribeye and striploin tasted very tender and juicy. They were nicely complemented by the yellow mustard, red pickles and generous amounts of cabbage. While my personal highlight was the leaner striploin, I also enjoyed the ox tongue skewers for entree and found the sasemi oil to be well balanced with the skewers. The restaurant staffs were also rather friendly, informative and prompt with serving the dishes. Highly recommended!
Jace Fong
love it! nice and quiet place, friendly staff :)) the meat was quite good i can tell 😊 my friend said the onion sauce was amazing, i prefer the Nagoya style sauce, little sweet, exactly what i like
StepiiGM
Must order: ebi katsu ♥️ We're not too impressed with the tonkotsu as they are too fatty. Poached salmon was okay - love the seaweed and crumbs on top! Great service. Price is slightly over, but we generally had a pleasant meal throughout.

Our long-awaited visit to the famed Ton and Co did not disappoint one bit. Paying homage to authentic Japanese tradition of quality produce, flawlessly executed and simple yet stunning presentation, Ton and Co offers a premium Tokatsu experience that’s hard to rival.
With every detail meticulously thought out and even going so far to offering a bottomless cabbage salad just like in Japan, it’s no surprise this was undoubtedly the best Katsu we’ve come across that’s not made in Japan.
Roma Espiritu
Really loved the tonkatsu with curry! Would definitely go back for that.

Ton and Co Japanese Tonkatsu Store in Windsor. It is definitely the best tonkatsu store in the town. Their pork are juicy and tasty and also like their desserts

Ton & Co is THE place to have tonkatsu in Melbourne. This beautiful little Eatery specialises in Japanese tonkatsu (deep fried pork chop) and it’s truly some of the best I’ve tried.

The menu is short, simple and straight-forward. Their Signature Tonkatsu comes in two varieties - the Ribeye cut or the Striploin cut - and with your choice of sauce. They also have a small offering of sides too, with the Ox Tongue Skewers being the most popular.

Ox Tongue Skewers - Probably one of the best experiences I’ve had with ox tongue. I’ve never had ox tongue served cubed on a skewer like this, and it was absolutely delicious! The ox tongue was so fatty, soft, and literally melt-in-your-mouth. Seriously amazing - it’s a must try!

Pork Ribeye cut Tonkatsu (with Tonkatsu sauce) - My absolute favourite! This cut is perfect for those who like their meat on the fatty side. It’s incredibly juicy, soft and tender - paired with the crispy panko coating and the tonkatsu sauce - so good! I love the large serving of cabbage on the side, and you even receive a bottle of sesame dressing which you can squeeze as much as you want (we literally drenched our salad in it!).

Striploin cut Tonkatsu (with Japanese Curry) - This cut is the more traditional variation of tonkatsu you’ll find in Japan. The meat is much leaner, so it has a bit more chew to it, although it is still very tender. This is perfect if you like your meat with less fat! I definitely recommend trying the curry too because it goes so well with the crispy tonkatsu.

We also had the Umeshu Classic Choya which was very light, sweet, and a delightful accompaniment to our meal.

Furthermore, the staff were all very kind and hospitable, and we were extremely happy with our experience.

Ton & Co really have perfected the art of tonkatsu. I can’t recommend this place enough! Definitely worth a try.

Thank you so much for having me!
Kepikkecil
We tried the striploin with 1 prawn and also tomahawk, all of them were very tasty, they brined the pork for 3 days so it’s cooked, it stills very juicy... the sauce, mustard are good quality especially the tartar sauce for the prawn
Eat_today_diet_tomorrow
Hands down one of best places in Melbourne that serves Tonkatsu. They have two parts of pork for you to choose from, the ribeye and striploin. The ribeye is a little more fatty and is my personally favourite. The striploin is leaner and not as soft. Our katsus were perfectly cooked, the crispy crumbs were amazing. We also had curry and dark miso sauce on the side, they were both really good, but I think nothing can beat the original sauce the came with the pork. We also had matcha beer, which was unique and bitter in a satisfying way.

This restaurant deserves a reward for their tonkatsu!

Friendly staff they helped us through the menu!
Skewers were very tasty and meat was tender.
Meal sizes were big.
Main meals were delicious
would recommend
Best tonkatsu in town! Small menu done perfectly. Ox tongue skewers are a must have. Melts in your mouth. Tried the caramelised onion and pork, it was good. Heard that the miso one is better. Will try that next visit. Keep up the great work!
Cindy
We had the tongue skewers as an entree it was very tender and the sauce was very tasty. The striploin with japanese curry was good. The curry was so delicious but the striploin can be more tender than this. We also ordered tomahawk the signature tonkatsu, the meat itself is very tender and goes well with the sauce and the salad. Overall the tonkatsu is good and the portion is great, only a bit lacking in flavour.

A surprising speciality shop in Windsor that serves up one of japans most classic dishes.. the tonkatsu.. the menu is limited and focuses on essentially katsu’s we tried their signature tonkatsu which was a 4 day cured pork tomahawk.. deep fried to crispy perfection.. we also had their curry katsu.. which was a strip-loin with Japanese curry.. the signature tonkatsu was pink in the middle mainly because it is a piece of cured meat and we told by the staff there that it was actually cooked.. we also had the ox tongue skewers which were melt in the mouth.. the signature tonkatsu was pretty good and had a layer of fat that you can bite into with every mouthful.. the curry katsu was also very tasty and the cut was more lean.. both the katsus were served with thinly sliced raw cabbage and we were given a honey mayo sesame dressing to have with it.. rice and soup was separately ordered.. a great place to visit if you are craving for one of Japan’s most famous delicacies.. although a bit on the pricey side of things..

Absolutely love the place! Could honestly say this is the best tonkatsu place I have tried in melbourne! The Japanese curry was super tasty and the meat was very tender. I also loved the tofu bowl as it was very tasty as well. Would definitely come back 🙌🏻

Ton & Co is situated just off Chapel Street in Prahran.

My partner and I dined here and what an amazing night it was.

We tried a Kyoto Matcha IPA Green Tea beer which was absolutely moorish. The we tried a Miso Lager which was equally as delicious.

We started with some edamame which is always a winner, served warm. Then we tried some ox tongue skewers which was soft, a slightly firm texture and the flavour was mild. What a great start.

Then we had some tempura prawns which were amazing. The tempura was light, and crispy and the prawns perfectly cooked.

The poached salmon was honey miso glaze, seaweed crust which gave the salmon some more texture, and a drinkable mushroom broth. Yummo!! The salmon was some of the best I've had, it was perfectly cooked and it just melted and fell apart. Wow! Hahaha

The signature pork tomahawk was incredible. The pork was slightly pink, it was sooo soft, it was lightly crumbed and this was food at another level. Just incredible flavours.

The waitress gave me some Japanese curry sauce to try w the pork and this was spicy, peppery ana thick like a gravy. And really tasty.

And to finish we tried the Japanese matcha cheesecake which was incredibly moorish w some roasted tea ice cream. The desserts were a perfect way to finish a fine dining dinner. But Isn't it funny how you can always find room for dessert? Hahaha

Thanks to the owners for their very kind invitation to visit their restaurant.

The pork strip loin is juicy and tender. This is my fourth time and they still maintain high quality food really recommend coming to this place!!!
Debby
This small shop specializes in Japanese tonkatsu aka crumbed pork chop. The meat are tender and juicy, it's unfortunate that the accompanying sauces are lacking that excellent touch. Sauce was bland and the ox tongue although very soft but was very plain as if it wasn't marinated at all. The free refill salad was the star of the night for us.
Come here without any booking. Upon my arrival, the staffs greeted me properly. The place was quite busy, being told need to be wait for 1 hours and suddenly got called again that the table is available. They give us the menu then, they take me to the designated table.

FOOD
1. Pork Striploin with Japanese Curry
2. Pork Striploin with Caramelized Onion Gravy
3. Signature Pork Tomahawk
(All come in set with koshi rice & miso soup)

Overall, the meat was amaziiiiing! The tenderness, the juiciness, the crispiness, and pork marbling melted in your tongue when you eat.. dang! Best katsu in M-town!

The staffs were friendly and attentive. The place and the ambience was nice, comfortable, and airy modern dining. Good place to hangout with friends or family. Can’t wait to be back again!!

#BHAsFoodDiary

We had visited Ton & Co for dinner and boy was it a night to remember!

The highlight of the night was all the tonkatsu meat which have been cured and rested for 3 to 4 days to maximize their tenderness and juiciness! We had tried the pork striploin with Japanese curry and dark miso sauce! The meat was as what I had imagined - super crispy, tender and juicy! It was an absolute pleasure eating this as each bite just kept melting in your mouth! The sauces were good complements as well to add an extra kick to the meat!

We also had the matcha cheese cake with hojicha ice cream for dessert and that was a great end to the night! The cheese cake was super smooth and creamy and you could taste the matcha! The hojicha ice cream was such a clever addition as it gave an extra sweet kick!

It was such a fantastic night at Ton & Co and I would definitely go back for more tonkatsu!

The ox tongue just melted on my tongue 😋🤤 The pork tonkatsu was amazing too. It was quite delicately fried, and the pork kept all of its tenderness and flavour. @ton_and_co are actually famous for their pork because they cure and age their meat for 3-4 days to get that amazing flavour 🤩😍
Forwang Li
Great tonkatsu. Tomahawk was perfectly crispy on the outside while the meat was juicy and tender. Unlimited cabbage with the sesame dressing was the perfect foil to the heavy fried goodness.

This Tonkatsu restaurant is just amazing! The meat was tender and juicy that remains me of Japan! They don’t only have Tonkatsu, but also have ox-tongue which Japanese love.We definitely will be back!
Ton & Co is really a hidden gem in Windsor. Seriously this place is one of the best in making Tonkatsu - with their cuts prepared fresh in-house and are cured and aged for 3-4 days so their meats are extra tender and juicy.

If you are worried about the 'pork' smell, you will not find it in these meat. Their batter is so light, non-oily and very crunchy. Their meat is so lean as well! It's just really tasty!

So we started off with:

1. 18 hours slow cooked ox tongue with tare sauce - this was like a cube shape and thick texture. Unfortunately I do not eat ox tongue so I didn't taste this but fellow foodies who did, loved it!

2. Potato salad - this was really nice and creamy, served cold

3. Edamame - salted and tasted fresh

4. Fries with furikake seasoning

The mains we had were:

1. Tomahawk Tonkatsu (400g+, served bone-on) - highest marbling and fat content, it's their signature dish and really delicious!

2. Pork Striploin Tonkatsu with Japanese curry - omg this was my favourite dish! The curry is just so good with the tonkatsu!

3. Pork Striploin Tonkatsu with Dark Miso - really crunchy pieces and dark miso was an interesting flavour.

4. Ebi Katsu - Prawn pieces which are so fresh - you can so tell when you bite into it.

5. Poached salmon with honey miso glaze, seaweed crust, and shiitake mushroom broth

The dessert was amazing! We finished of with the Matcha Cheese Cake with Hojicha Ice cream. The cheese cake was so creamy, soft and full of matcha flavour. The hojicha ice cream was really nice too. This was a great combo.

Overall, I loved this place. I have visited a tonkatsu place in Sydney with this quality of Tonkatsu and I am so happy to have found one in Melbourne now! After this visit, I have been craving for tonkatsu and visited a few which just didn't have the same quality! Will definitely have to come back to this place and bring my family to try out!

Thank you Ton & Co for an amazing evening.

Ton & Co serves tonkatsu reminiscent of Japan. Juicy, tender pork tomahawk battered in a light, crispy crumb. The honey sesame sauce is a great accompaniment to the mountain of cabbage.
We ordered the set which comes with rice and miso soup.

Unless you're super hungry, a tonkatsu set is perfect for couples to share.

Tastiness: 4/5
Value: 5/5
Satisfaction: 4/5

Pictured:
- Pork striploin with dark miso sauce
- Signature pork tomahawk
We came here on a Saturday night to try their food as we have heard so much about them. I ordered the curry katsu with a miso soup and a bowl of rice. The katsu had a great crunchy batter on the outside and the inside was juicy, pink and tender. It is the most delicious katsu I have had in my life. And that includes the one I had in Japan. The rice was soft and fluffy and the miso soup was delicious. The katsus come with mustard, sauce, unlimited refills of cabbage and pickles. The cabbage was shredded thinly and was so fresh and yummy when we put the sesame sauce on it. Service was also excellent. We will definitely be back.

Excellent service and the onion gravy tonkatsu set I had was delicious. A bit pricey but quality is good and portion size is big. I left feeling satisfied.

Went there tonight and ordered the ox tongue skewers, it was different to the usual ox tongue slices as it was in cubes and is soft texture: different but still nice. Ordered the pork sirloin with dark miso with rice and miso set plus a pork and ebi set. Both were great. The cutlets were very thick, tender and the tonkatsu didn't taste oily at all . The thickness and size of the cutlets is not something you'll get at other Japanese restaurants. We also had the cheese cake desert and that was great too! Overall, the service was excellent and food was good too. I'll come here when I need my katsu fix.
Linda
I thought I knew what a katsu ought to taste like, until I had one of these Katsus! Crumbed like no other and tender and moist choice cuts of pork like nothing served elsewhere. The result was a sensational katsu. Most expensive one I have had to date, but well worth it.

These guys are real specialists when it comes to tonkatsu.

The tomahawk was unbelievable, decibels best I've had so far and great value with the rice and miso.

I got the dark miso sauce because I'm not a huge fan of traditional demi glace tonkatsu.

It was fried so well and I'm glad I went for the junmai grade nihonshu as well.

The ox tongue was the huge winner. 48 hours of slow cooking gave it this unbelievable texture which you could cut with the blunt end of a spoon. Crazy stuff

Tried the regular tonkatsu as well but compared to the tomahawk and it's marbling it obviously couldn't match up but in any other place in Melbourne it would be the best
Eating Sushi
Food (6/10): I didn’t have high expectations going to this restaurant but the food is definitely underwhelming for the price. I got the tonkatsu with curry sauce while my partner got the tonkatsu with prawn tempura. We also got the ox tongue skewers to share.

*Tonkatsu: The tonkatsu with curry sauce wasn’t as tender and juicy. It was still pretty tough to eat. The curry sauce was cold and the rice was in a separate bowl. I would have appreciated if the rice was served on the plate along with the curry sauce and tonkatsu. I really enjoyed the salad as it was refreshing and cut through the oiliness of Katsu. I also tried the prawn tempura but unfortunately it was incredibly oily.
*Ox tongue skewers: I’m a huge fan of ox tongue as I enjoy the texture of it when grilled. However this ox tongue is slow cooked and tasted mushy. I would recommend this for people who don’t enjoy the regular texture and bite of ox tongue. For those who really enjoy ox tongue, I think you would find yourself pretty disappointed.

Service (10/10): excellent service! Waiter was very friendly and attentive

Ambience (8/10): dimly lit and moody atmosphere but quite cold.

Cost for two: $70

Verdict: I wouldn’t find myself coming here again as the premium price for the food isn’t worth a second visit.

I lived in Tokyo for over 5 years, Tonkatsu has been one of my favourite Japanese dishes. Ton & Co’s tonkatsu was the best one I’ve ever had in Melbourne! It was just as tasty as the one I had in Japan!

We ordered the Tomahawk and it was so crunchy outside, tender and juicy inside without being greasy! Will definitely be coming back!
Yalong Sun
Superior quality pork and Huge proportion especially if you order tomahawk. Amazing sauce for the pork and the salad as well. Service is very attentive
Chips Before Dips
Visited Ton & Co with very high expectations after reading all the rave reviews, which is perhaps where the issue lies because unfortunately, for me these expectations were not met.
Positives first up, the service was very friendly and attentive, the decor basic and comfortable, the venue small but busy and buzzing, and the portion sizing very generous.
The highlight for me was the ox tongue and the chips. Both of these sides were delicious. Also really enjoyed the plum wine.
The BUT that cost them two stars is that I didn’t come here for buttery charred ox tongue, or fat, delectable chips; I came for tonkatsu.
We shared the striploin with dark miso sauce, and the poached salmon, and while both were good, I just found them a little lacklustre and dare I say it, bland. The tonkatsu meat didn’t hold a lot of flavour, and the pile of cabbage on the side was left half un-eaten. I noticed at the end of the meal other tables being given a dressing on the side for their cabbage which we didn’t receive which may have helped.
So while this experience was good, I won’t be hurrying back.
Ingot001
Everything is very fresh here. Meat is very thick and juicy, cabbage salad is really fresh. Great service with friendly explanation. Usually my stomach can’t really take deep fried dishes but I was totally okay with it. I would like to recommend this place to friends and definitely will visit again.
Eatwithbonny
The best tonkatsu quality I ever had in Melbourne! The place is small and cozy. You can feel the owner put a lot of love and thought from their service and food.

We ordered pork striploin with caramelized onion gravy, prawn katsu and ox tongue skewers . Pork was thick and juicy. Prawn was fresh and goes really well with their tartar sauce. The only missed I guess is from their breadcrumbs. Ox tongue is to die for! It is so tender and tasty.

Will I be back? Yes!

Wow! Never would I thought I’d experience tonkatsu or yakitori food style like the time I went to Japan. Ton & Co really brings back the joy with their amazing highly quality food. I love everything we had and couldn’t fault a thing. Their Katsu and tempura were all so crispy, wagyu and chicken skewers were juicy and melts in your mouth, umami fries were the best thing ever, matcha cheesecake was incredible - just EVERYTHING! To top it all off, the service were 10/10. This is such a hidden gem for me and would highly recommend to anyone loves Japanese food! Thanks so much for having us x

The ox tongue was definitely a highlight, absolutely amazing dining experience. Loved the minimalism in their dishes and the matcha cheesecake was a highlight!

Ton and Co is a Japanese restaurant in Windsor whose entire menu revolves around their specialty Tonkatsu – a Japanese fried pork cutlet dish, served with various different sauces and on a bed of fluffy rice. It’s refreshing to see such a modern take on a classically Japanese dish, especially when such extra-special care and technique is taken. With fresh Panko breadcrumbs and 3-day aged pork, Ton and Co is definitely a unique Japanese restaurant that Asian food lovers should try – especially considering the plentiful portion sizes!

The tonkatsu here is awesome! It was done perfectly - I don't see how it could be any better. If you appreciate quality food, this is the best! Also, if you like matcha, and you like IPA, then you must try the matcha IPA. The owners say it's a bit hit and miss, but my partner and I both loved it!!!

Had an absolutely fabulous dinner tonight at Ton & Co. The food was top quality and the service was great.

We had the signature tomahawk, a miso sirloin and poached salmon for mains, with the ox tongue skewers as entree. The skewers meted in our mouth, super soft and buttery with a great sauce. The poached salmon was delicate and beautiful, and balanced well with the broth. The sirloin was juicy and tender. And the tomahawk was outstanding - juicy, tender and flavourful.

The service was quick, the staff very knowledgeable and friendly.

Will defiantly be coming here again!
Mamaknowsgoodfood
Quality Authentic Katsu Pork with attentive service makes this a kid friendly restaurant.
The Katsu Pork meals bring back our memory of the real Katsu we had in Japan. The pork sirloin used is juicy and tender, love how it is served separately to the rice and soup , authentic Japanese way. The dessert is surprisingly good, matcha rich in flavour cheesecake goes well with the one of it's kind hojicha ice cream, all taste home made. Good to see my 18 mo daughter enjoyed the lunch so much. She was looked after with kid cutlery and plate provided.
EatPicLove
Amazing Japanese cuisine provided with simplicity and stunning flavours. Being able to try a bit of everything allowed us to truly immerse ourselves in some amazing dishes from entree to dessert.

Delicious meal, big portion and very tender pork. Staff are friendly and overall a Great experience. Definitely recommend anyone who likes pork katsu

Ton & Co is a hidden gem, they put so much love and care into the food they make and it shows, from sourcing local & fresh produce to the preparation of the meat to what is presented in front of you. Everything is mouth watering delicious

Staff here were lovely, service was prompt, but at the end of the day we were just a bit underwhelmed with the pork. I got the signature tomohawk cut and found it of varying quality, dry here, moist there and some parts chewier than I was expecting. Given the high price I don't think I will be returning.
Emily
Nice authentic Tonkatsu restaurant with friendly staff. We ordered the 400g Tonkatsu and a striploin to share between 4. The striploin is a good size for 1 or 2 if you are not so hungry.

It is in a quiet pocket of Windsor so there is plenty of street parking available.

I sometimes reminisce the delicious aroma of fresh tonkatsu from Japan 🇯🇵. Thick, juicy pork cutlet coated in a crispy layer of panko breadcrumbs - absolute heaven. I am so excited that ton_and_co specialise in crumbed tonkatsu, the Japanese way. One of my favourites was the Signature Pork tomahawk, tender, crispy and juicy. Accompanied with variations in curries 🍛 and caramelised onions. Can’t forget dessert! I am living for the matcha cheesecake and hojicha ice cream, flavours were perfectly balanced without being overly sweet. Highly recommend checking out one of the best katsu restaurants in Melbourne! 😍

Finally a Tonkatsu place in Melbourne! A hidden gem near prahran station is this Pork Loving restaurant. We were lucky to try their full range of Pork Tonkatsu, their range of sauces and toppings was interesting and their serves were huge! The Tomahawk was the highlight of the night. All the meat is perfectly cooked and juicy as they brine the meat.

Not only do they have Tonkatsu but they also have the most delicious slow cooked OX TONGUE skewers! It was so tender and tasty and unique!

We also had their delicious matcha cheese cake & Hokjicha ice cream. A perfect way to end the night.
Eatjin
Highly recommend the ox tongue skewers. They were so tender and melt in your mouth. The katsu on the other hand was not as juicy as I expected. the pork was a bit dry and tough and batter coating wasn’t as crispy and satisfying as I would’ve liked.
Joanne | Melbournecitay
The menu isn’t entirely accurate - they offer refillable cabbage. Unfortunately I didn’t reconfirm this with the owner so I didn’t benefit from it. Having said that, the pork katsu was delicious. I preferred the dark miso sauce to my curry. The only downside about this place to me is the price point. The katsu doesn’t come with rice and miso soup - you have to pay an extra $5 for that - bringing ur lunch cost closer to $30 - which to me is quite steep for 1 meal.

We came to Ton and Co which is a restaurant that specialises in tonkatsu fried pork!

We started the meal with the ox tongue skewers, this was cooked for 18 hours and served with a n ice savoury sauce – I could not believe how tender this was, outstanding

The chicken thigh skewers were next and I loved how juicy it was, this was served up with potato salad and fries. The potato salad was very acidic, this I found paired nicely with the fried pork

For mains we sampled the Tomahawk on the bone, pork with Japanese curry , ebi katsu and poached salmon in a mushroom broth

The tomahawk was extremely juicy and tender, the meat was still pink ( due to its cooking process) yet completely cooked through! I loved how fatty this piece of protein . The pork with the Japanese curry was also cooked to perfection , the curry sauce was really flavourful and I could not help notice how gigantic the portion sizes were. One of my favourite dishes was however the poached salmon, this was still pink inside and the delicate mushroom broth and the fish was a perfect combo

We ended the night with matcha cheesecake with hojicha ice cream – one of my two favourite combos, the ice cream was saturated in the hojicha flavour which helped cleanse the palette

Thanks for having us in !

Ton n Co nestles 5 minutes from Prahran Station. We was so excited to try their Tonkatsu which is their speciality. A special mention to their Ox Tongue Skewers – 18 hours slow cook – truly melts in your mouth seasoned really well with Togarashi (7 Japanese spices), Tare sauce and sesame oil. Oh did I mentioned the glaze on the outside. Truly star of the night. Chicken Thigh skewers also seasoned similarly but with Sanchi pepper. So moist on the inside, tender and juicy. Truly enjoyable.

I had the immense pleasure of visiting Ton & Co , who specialise in tonkatsu with lots of different ways to try it! Curried with multiple sauces, traditional katsu, - these guys are real masters!! The pork is cured and aged for three days which leaves it tender, juicy and perfect!! A must order are the ox tongue skewers which are slow cooked for 18 hours!!!! 🤤 This one is a must visit guys - best Tonkatsu in Melbourne!! 🙏🏻

DO: The signature pork tomahawk if it's your first time, you won't be disappointed

DON'T: Forget the ebi set if you'd like a bit of surf and turf

TIP: Must order the ox tongue. The best, juicest and most tender I've ever had

Having seen enough tonkatsu devoured by other foodies in Japan, I couldn't contain myself I just wanted the next best thing! The venue is very modern and the menu slim. We get some sake and are told that they only had half a portion left, we skol that down and other another carafe.

To start off with nibble on some salted edamame. Generous bowl, I pop them out from the side whereas my friends go the indirect way by starting at the end. I'm pretty sure they are doing it wrong, uncultured swines! (no pun intended) Next up a plate of chicken thigh and ox tongue skewers make their way to our table. Chicken skewers were perfect, tender and juicy with a sweet basting of tare and dry seasonings. What looked like pieces of eggplant were thick cuts of ox tongue. Ohh man, this blew my mind how soft and fatty it was. Ridiculous!

For mains we got a variety of items to share. The poached salmon topped with seaweed crust was very delicate and cooked rare. It's swimming in a shiitake mushroom broth, light and full of umami.

We also got two types of tonkatsu, the 400g signature pork tomahawk was cut in thick slices and served with mustard as well as tonkatsu sauce. As we were sharing I didn't take notice of the dark/white meat of the pork. The crumbing was actually light and not overly heavy/oily, the pork was lean, tender and flavoursome. This is a result of their curing and resting methods which take 3-4 days. The meal was paired with rice, miso soup as well as a bottomless cabbage salad which was very refreshing to give your palate a break. We also enjoyed their pork striploin which had that layer of fat I was looking for. It was topped with a sweet caramelised onion gravy, delicious.

There wasn't much in the way of dessert but we get their matcha cheesecake with hojicha ice cream. Strong tea flavours coming from both and the unmistakable cheesecake taste, the cream on top of the cheesecake looked a bit sad however.

A small menu along with precise execution, it leaves little room for error. I wouldn't have it any other way, we prefer quality over quantity. Service was quick as expected. I consider the locals very lucky to have this around the corner, it's a place you can revisit often rather than an establishment to tick off your bucket list.

Finally managed to find the time to come here for dinner one night. Was surprised to see that it wasn’t too busy, and we were able to be seated right away.
It’s a small-medium sized casual industrial-y space, with the counter, bar and kitchen to one side. Service was decent, with one waitress floating around and serving everyone. There were 2-3 staff in the kitchen and we could see they were working really hard.
We ordered the ox tongue skewers, chicken thigh skewers, striploin tonkatsu with caramelised onion sauce and the tomahawk.
The ox tongue skewers were so soft and juicy with a lovely sauce. However I wish they’d hold back a bit on the sauce to let the meat shine more! The chicken thigh skewers were also cooked really well - chicken was juicy and moist, and it had the same marinade as the ox tongue skewers. Ox tongue >>> chicken thigh skewers purely due to the difference in the texture and flavour of the meat.
The tomahawk was beautifully crumbed and crisp, and the meat was delicious. It was soft and juicy, and with a beautiful fatty texture that melted in your mouth. The striploin and the sauce was also good, but the tomahawk is definitely the star of the mains menu.
We finished our meal with the matcha cheesecake and hojicha ice cream that fit the perfect spot. Both were delicious and washed down the grease from our meaty feast.
Though on the slightly pricier side, it is defintely worth coming here to experience what they have to offer. I cannot recommend the ox tongue skewers and tomahawk enough!

Do one thing, and do it well. The tonkatsu was so tender and juicy, perfectly complimented with just a dash of hot mustard, Japanese pickle and cabbage salad. Ton & Co have nailed the balance of flavours and textures

Best Tonkatsu in Melbourne!!! Lovely and very accommodating little shop hidden in Windsor. The Signature Pork Tomahawk is to die for, nice and pink (don’t scare of the pink, they are cooked). Very juicy and tender pork, thin crispy lightly batter on the outside. The meat has been very well marinated, that you can taste it with every single bite. Service were great and speedy. Generous portion size. Certainly will be back very soon for seconds. Love it, highly recommended!!!

Been meaning to try out this modern Japanese tonkatsu eatery.

We were lucky to try out the striploin before they ran out. Taking 3-4 days to cure and rest the meat, the striploin with caramalized onions has a crispy, flakey batter with juicy pork insides.

The pork tomohawk is also juicy with a crumbed batter.

The decadent green tea cheese cake is rich and not too overpowering with the hourjicha icecream to match the dessert.

Service was prompt and the staff was very informative.

Awesome little gem in windsor. I had the tomahawk tonkatsu, which was perfectly cooked, juicy, tender, and full of sweet porky flavour. The coating was light and crispy, on a side note because the pork is so juicy make sure you eat it fast, otherwise the crumbs goes a little soggy on the bottom. Also the portion size is huge, such good value for money. Defs my fav tonkatsu place in melbs as of now. Also got the ox toungue skewers to share, and omg it is the softest piece of meat, super tender, cuts easier than soft butter. For dessert we had the matcha cheesecake with hojicha ice cream, which was decent, nothing too outstanding, tea flavour is great though.
Jason Hindarto
First of all, the guy who serves us was amazing! Looks after us in all sorts of ways.
Going to the food, the striploin was great and cooked well. Order the ox tongue skewers! It’s a must!!!!
Yexin Yu
BEST tonkatsu I’ve ever had in Melbourne. The tonkatsu here is simply amazing! Crunchy outside and tender inside. Does not have that blood taste from pork at all. Even the cabbage is thinner than the ones you get in the market, and taste a lot better.
The serve is really huge, me and my boyfriend shared one serve of tonkatsu and ordered a couple more sides. The tonkatsu is fairly priced too!
Even compare to the tonkatsu I had in Japan, this is still authentic and legit. Have recommended to a couple of friends already.
But sadly there isn’t any vegetable (but not carb) dishes on the menu when I went.
AC
We always loved a good Tonkatsu. So when this place came on the scene it warranted a visit. We were told that they are in the process of revising their menu and half items on the menu were not available. But Tonkatsu were still on the menu. We tried the Tomahawk Tonkatsu and striploin Tonkatsu. On the menu it said that the tomahawk would be on the bone but when it was served the bone was small with a big cut of meat. Both Tonkatsu were nicely cooked slightly pink. The crumbed batter were also thin, crunchy and golden.. a bit brown for me. The sauce that was served with the Tonkatsu was sweet and was not the same as I had before .. not as nice. We would have preferred a more generous serve of mustard on the plate. Service was good. The ambience resembled a cafe style joint.

The desert is awesome, recommended. Hospitable, warm staff. The pork is tasty in large size, so I didn’t finish. maybe two person can share one dishes next time.

Ambience: Clean and minimalistic.
Customer service: Friendly and attentive.

Fries: Absolutely delicious. Soft on in the inside, crispy on the outside and very well seasoned. The fries were more thick than traditional thin fries. Also a very generous amount is given. Would 100% recommend.

Signature Pork Tomahawk: Fried pork cutlet- tonkatsu. My partner ordered this and he enjoyed it.

Signature Pork Ribeye Steak: This is what I ordered and I loved it. It was tender and juicy, with the right amount of fat on the meat. The accompanied sauces complimented the pork ribeye well. I would definitely order it again next time.

Miso soup: Standard.

Trevor Johnston
The signature pork tomahawk was generous in size and had a rich fat content which made it really satiating. I would say most folks wouldn’t need much more with regard to sides when ordering this dish, although I guess some edamame never goes a miss. I actually preferred the Tonkatsu at Ton & Co to those I tried in Japan. I don’t know if you can get a better recommendation than that.

The only issue we had was that the poached salmon came out a bit cold, which was surprising given the execution of everything else was spot on and the dish was otherwise great.

My one tip is that restaurant seems to get pretty chilly in the evenings when it's cold, so pop a cardy in your handbag.

The service was fantastic. I’d come back for sure.
The Fo0die
Note that thefo0die.com rating is a 4.5 but in Zomato's rating system, it is closer to a 4.

Fo0die dined as a guest of Ton and Co and as such, the rating does not give any consideration to customer service.

After a very short walk from Prahran train station, we arrived at the one month old venue (opened early June 2018). Headed by a chef who previously owned a restaurant in Malaysia dedicated to the less popular protein, pork, Ton & Co aims to showcase how pork can also be very tasty when done right.
Tj Peco
The pork was juicy, tender and high quality. My favourite however was the ribs. They were cooked so well and literally fell off the bone. The candied pecan salad was also nice for a sweet and savoury hit

Delicious Tonkatsu with a crunchy crumb that is neither too oily too thick! Well done, Ton & Co!
I tried the Tonkatsu striploin with the onion gravy, and although less traditional, I enjoyed the onion gravy more than the Tonkatsu sauce. The coleslaw is well dressed as well. The dish as a whole (with a side of rice) was very filling and a great comfort meal on a cold evening.
Edamame portion was very generous.
The wine list had some good choices to accompany your meal.

Menu has been updated to include rice sets (with miso soup and/or a Kirin. Great idea!

Service is very friendly too! Fantastic addition to the Chapel Street precinct!
Kylie
Delicious place to eat tonkatsu! Although we all thought the tomahawk was going to be the highlight, my partner actually ordered the striploin without the onion gravy and it was muchmore tender with fatty edges. My tomahawk was still very delicious too though, but less predictable, with some pieces exclusively meat and other pieces with a greater fat to meat ratio. All around, good food. The matcha cheesecake and icecream was delicious too! Highly recommend!
Tzi-Eu
Quite happy with the quality of the food provided by this new outlet. The pork katsu had the right proportion of fat and meat, although deep fried, it didn't taste oily at all. Pork was juicy and tender, not dry. The furikake chips probably needed a little bit more time in the fryer but not too bad. The portion of the rice dishes were slightly small. The menu lacks some veggies, only one vegetarian dish available. Service was very friendly.
The City Lane
Ton & Co is owned by owners Jason How and Andrew Poon, and inspired by the duo’s love of pork and, of course, tonkatsu. The menu is a simple one page affair, a few tonkatsu options along with a selection of other mains and sides.
Gastrology
Ton & Co delivers a pork-focused inspired by traditional Japanese dishes with a modern twist. The piece de resistance here is the Tonkatsu which is by far, some of the best Melbourne has to offer.
Brendan Chan
Definitely a keeper if you are looking for some really good pork dishes especially the tonkatsu and the cured and aged pork ribeye steak. If you are after something else, the poached salmon is recommended too.

Ton & Co has only been open for a few months but they have already made a huge impact for us since we’ve discovered it so we had to tell you all about it!. Located on High St in Windsor, Ton & Co is a Japanese restaurant with a focus on pork dishes. Yes, you did hear right. PORK dishes. The uniqueness of this concept piqued our interest straight away so we had to check it out. The menu consists of a range of different pork dishes which include pork striploin, pork tenderloin, pork ribeye steak, pork ribs, pork belly, you name it! There are no beef dishes here and there was only one fish dish. So if you are going to visit this restaurant then make sure you are here because you want to eat pork and don’t expect anything else! The restaurant itself has a very spacious and modern feel with wooden tables and industrial chairs. I also noted it was kept very clean and pristine. We were welcomed warmly into the restaurant on this particular evening and efficiently provided with the menus.
Tonkatsuka
While the Tonkatsu were really good in Australian standards (so I gave the score factoring this), I felt that they still need to improve on a few elements to be even comparable to the good ones Ive eaten in Japan. So we have tried the Signature tomahawk and Pork sirloins.

In particular, the tonkatsu special sauce didn't have much depth in taste (a little too salty for my liking), the crumbs or outer layers could have been more crunchier and the thickness ratio to the crumb layer could be improved. E.g too thick, certain parts gets a little dry. Some pickles on the side to counter the heaviness of the other foods if provided? sesame salad was good but prefer a less heavy dressing. More mustard on the side would be good too!

I guess it is hard to judge when you have tried the best in Japan (for half the price, i could eat a much better tonkatsu with free miso, salad and rice refill that excel on their own!). Good effort though. Can satisfy the pork cravings if in Melbourne.

Update 18 Aug 2018 - 2nd time round, the Tonkatsu was perfect! crispy crust, super tender flesh and a little bit of fat. So good!
Ed
This was next-level tonkatsu; it was the best pork I’ve had in a long time. The crumb was perfect and the cutlet was impossibly thick and juicy without being greasy. It was pork cooked to perfection. And the accompaniments like rice and miso soup were equally prepared with great skill. Rice was included in the price of the tonkatsu with curry sauce but not the tonkatsu with onion sauce. I think they should price all cutlets on their own and offer a set option of $5 extra for rice and miso soup. This would cater for both low-carbers and rice lovers alike. The ambience was lacking but the food and crockery transported me to Japan nonetheless. So get some pork on your fork!

Tonkotsu was super crispy and pork rib eye steak was perfectly cooked with perfectly rendered fat. I'm not usually into pork but the food here is really good and will def come back!

I wish I discovered this place earlier ! The best pork ribeye steak in Melb !!!! It’s so tender and the pork striploin tonkatsu curry is so good. Too bad they ran out of the pork tenderloin . Will definitely be back to hv the pork ribeye steak again and hopefully I get to try the pork tenderloin too

Abosolutely good food! Can feel the fat just melt in my mouth. Both the signature tonkatsu and the ox tougue are 10/10 tasty cooked into perfection. The pork ribs are a bit in a small portion comparing to the other dishes. Given that the pork ribs already came with dressing on top. It became a bit salted if dipping the sauce again....

Absolutely sincerely cooked and nicely done dishes! It’s a pork ‘major’ restaurant for piggy lover. The signature tonkatsu is definitely one of the best you can find in Melbourne at a very good value. The Pelican salad is a must order too. If you don’t like pork or not a pork lover, the salmon is also a yummy choice!

Amazing, solid food. Tonkatsu was juicy, succulent and tender. The fat in the meat melts in the mouth, and the outer layer was very crispy, assisted by the resting tray which the meat rested upon. The tonkatsu was also accompanied by a delicious mushroom dipping sauce. The chicken skewers had a delicious seasoning and the potato salad was sweet and hints of sourness from the pickled veggies. Will definitely be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The pork ribeye steak was tender and flavoursome! My partner had the tonkatsu which was also amazing. The service from our waitress was perfect. The atmosphere of Ton & Co, the ambience is cozy and welcoming. Highly recommend trying this place out. We’ll be back.

Nice new tonkatsu restaurant just near prahran station. They take 3-4 days to prepare the pork for tonkatsu. The meat was so tender, bread crumbs were so crispy, cooked to perfection! Great service and great food!

Lovely and delicious place just off the main Chapel Street strip. The owners are a restauranteur couple trying to bring pork to the masses in a way that is different and new to most Australians, but seriously tasty. We snacked on some edamame and beautifully soft ox-tongue skewers, before hitting the pork ribeye with sake beure blanc and oh-so-good onion relish, cooked to perfection and very succulent. Whatever they do in their secret 4-day preparation of the meat, it works. Then we had the striploin tonkatsu which was also cooked just right and had the best panko crumb ever, better than any we've ever had in Melbourne. Chased it all down with a bit of sake and left very, very satisfied. The service was attentive but not pushy, and even though it's a relatively small restaurant the ambiance felt quite spacious.

You should definitely go and check them out and support this new business. Go get some (delicious) pork on your fork!

Came to try this place and redeemed the free Pork Tonkatsu meal. Serving was very generous, and the meal was quality. Pork cooked perfectly. Could have done with some extra of the side mustard which tasted great. Would consider going here to try a different meal or try this dish again!

Came here within the opening weeks on a promotion (free two mains). Nice dim interior with a quiet seating. Lovely couple owners who were very accommodating and observant. The pork steak I found to be personally too fatty and thick. Loved the salad with the pork katsu. The ox tongue was tasty and very generously portioned. Not very good dessert offerings.
