Review Rebel Blue - Windsor

Tess Aitken
Enjoyed a delicious birthday dinner for my sister here. Newly opened Rebel Blue showcases a modern spin on traditional Greek favourites. We indulged in a number of dishes between the 6 of us. While the food was beautiful, I wouldn't go here if you're looking for a big feed. The chicken, lamb and prawn skewers were delicious. My personal favourite was the eggplant with slow roasted lamb shoulder - I just wish there was more of it! Serving sizes are pretty light on which took away from that authentic Greek feel a little. Having said that, staff and service were top notch. Ambience was good but quite loud and rattly inside, not a major issue though. Would definitely recommend a visit overall!

Rebel Blue Pros: 👧Staff were attentive, young, friendly. 🗺 Great location, lots of bars nearby for after drinks. However there is also a beautiful bar inside the restaurant. 🥘 The food speaks for itself; fresh, clean, flavoursome. 🍗 The bbq chicken skewers are amazing, cooked by an authentic Greek chef 🍅 The stuffed tomato’s were my favourite, juicy & full of flavour. 🥖The dips (although a little small) are delicious & made fresh. 💰Prices are reasonable, you are paying for quality. Cons: 📌Food quantities are very very small. Tips: 💡 To avoid large crowds, go Tues-Thur

We absolutely adored Rebel Blue. Wonderful to have modern and delicious Greek food served with a lovely energy from service staff. Cool ambiance and a cocktail list to die for. Can’t wait to get back there. Great for couples or groups of up to 6.

A nice addition to the already hard to top Greek restaurant scene in Melbourne. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and work hard to ensure you order the best things on the menu within you appetite.

Absolutely amazing food. Group of 6 of us ordered the "let your inner rebel out - feed me" option on the menu for $49 per person, and it was one of the best feeds I've had in a long time. Really good variety of classic Greek dishes cooked to perfection. The waiters were extremely friendly and always had a smile, even though it was getting late into the night! Highly recommend.

Had delicious food and the DJ was fabulous. Really good dancing music without the chaos of a club. Had a great time dancing (to work off the food).

Don’t think it’s worth the price. Came for souvlaki as it showed on the online menu, was removed from the menu when we arrived. I asked if they could make a souvlaki or an open souvlaki and they said no. Ended up having to buy fries, chicken, pita and tzatziki all individually which seems ridiculous when they were selling souvlaki through Uber eats.

First time visiting this restaurant and loved the clean and lean food. The chicken and calamari skewers were small but tasty and good quality and the cocktails were spot on. Especially nice sitting outside on a warm night. The only issue was they kept getting out order wrong, one meal cam out after we were all done. Strange. They gave us some free drinks so made up for the ordering issues. I would definitely try again.

Absolutely love this restaurant the food is so good and they have amazing cocktails. Super friendly staff and great service. We always look forward to coming back to eat. Can’t recommend enough

Amazing food and drinks at Rebel Blue, the mousaka and mussels were my favorite and will definitely be back very soon, hats off to the chef and staff

Got Uber eats from here. Very disappointed. 75$ for the meal option which was very overpriced for what we got. We only received 3 skewers when 4 were listed. The chicken in parts of the skewer was raw. The lamb cutlets were nice. The broccoli and salad were underwhelming. I might not have been as disappointed with the meal, had the cost not been so high.

Just tried these guys for the first time (via UberEats of course, as EVERYTHING is Delivery Only in the Time Of Corona). And I am really happy. In fact I would have given them a straight "5" if it were not for the Mystery of the Missing Skewer. For a start ALL broccoli should be served like this, with quality authentic feta and flaked roasted almonds! And then there's the Gluten Free Pita (ok Gluten Free anything never tastes as good, but at least I get to have any Pita at all). Their Feta and Cheese Capsicum Dip was also a lovely surprise; hot and spicy and a much more exciting alternative to boring old hummus. Even their soley iceberg side salad was also absolutely delicious and refreshing due to the judicious use of a perfect oil and vinegar dressing. So my only quibble - which lost them that one star - the Skewers dish includes THREE skewers of your choice (chicken, lamb etc). But, when you order the economical Choice 2, they sneakily leave out one of the skewers (so you only get two, which was one to few). But do not specify this in (UberEats) menu. However, they definitely redeemed themselves by writing an absolutely lovely note with the order, thanking me for my "amazing" support. I can only hope that my meagre $35 order (of which a significant portion probably goes back to UberEats?) was not actually THAT "amazing", or these poor people must be really suffering. But I highly appreciate their thought. And I for one plan to reciprocate the sentiment by using them as my default delivery restaurant. At least while the virus crisis lasts.

Ordered via Uber Eats, paid $60 for chicken & lamb skewers and a lentil salad so was expecting a good feed. Opposite was true. Portions for the sticks were *tiny* and the lamb was so overcooked and dry - was very difficult to chew. The chicken tasted better but portion was still small. Lentil salad was okay, honestly was the only filling item.
$60 for two people and left hungry. Would not order again.

Really good food and such a helpful waiter! I’ll be back!

We visited Rebel blue for the first time last night. May I start by mentioning the service and how great it was. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were greeted with a friendly smile. We ordered the saganaki with lemon, octopus, dips with pita, iceberg lettuce salad, the lamb skewers, and the prawn skewers - all very yummy. Highly recommend.
The Casual Diner
Will come back for:
+ Spanakopita
+ Saganaki
+ Chicken. skewers

One word comes to mind about this place: generosity. Came here for dinner and tried their “feed me” menu. The complimentary olives and sparkling water is a nice touch. All the food though had their flavors amped up and we just enjoyed pretty much all the dishes. The spanakopita was crunchy and moorish. The saganaki was deliciously salty. And the skewers were tender and well spiced. Service was excellent and prices very reasonable for what you get. The place was modern and filled up quickly for dinner on a weekend. Will definitely be back again to try out some of the other dishes.

We celebrated my husband’s 50th here. Loved all the dishes from their Greek octopus to their saganaki and moussaka and the scrumptious lamb cutlets. Drinks were superb too from their wines and mocktails. We were able to bring a birthday cake without surcharge and they also served the best lukumades as complimentary for the celebrant. Staff were very attentive and super friendly. Reasonably priced and great ambience too!! Will definitely return.

I went 1 week ago with my husband and some friends. We ordered the banquet. The portions were super small and did not include more food even though we were 4 people. In addition, the waiters did not know which dishes were gluten free and the service was not good. I would recommend going to other places in Chapel St that have better banquets, including dessert, larger portions and better price.

Stumble across this place and attracted by its amazing decor. It was just over 6:30pm.

The staff were amazing and help us on the menu selection .

We ordered the fish and lamb shanks for the special and the prawn saganaki.

Prawn with pita bread 5/5
Lamb shank 3/5
Fish 1/5 (were a bit off)
The staff was amazing and switch it for the octopus which was 5/5.

Staff service was 6/5. Really friendly and helpful.

Came here on a Friday night for a quick bite and a drink. Had the moussaka, bread with tzatziki and a broccoli feta and almond salad. The broccoli was so simple but so fresh and tasty and matched perfectly with the almonds and feta!!! The moussaka was also super tasty. Will be coming back for a full meal soon for sure

In a highly competitive Greek cuisine market, it’s admirable that @rebelbluewindsor is forging a name of its own - pairing classic Greek dishes like saganaki with Greek Gin cocktails. This, alongside good service, would probably draw Melburnians who want to celebrate while eating comfort Greek food.
*
Overall score: 18/25 or ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
in 5 words: Diverse greek tapas and cocktails
*
Taste ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - We were served complimentary sparkling water and warm olives. Dishes served mirrored tapas, where portions are not huge to allow you to try different things. For the uninitiated, the feed me menu consists of:
- Saganaki: cheesy and delicious
- Spanakopita: crunchy and heartwarming
- Zucchini fries: delicious, wish they gave more
- Pitas with 3 types of dip - I especially loved how fragrant and slightly charred the pitas were, and the tzatziki was amazing
- 3 types of skewers (chicken, squid and pork): the chicken was a clear favourite - so flavourful! Pork was a bit too tough. Squid was okay.
- Feta fries - would have loved more feta on this dish. Fries were not as crispy as the zucchini fries.
- Salad was a little too bland for me!
- I really loved the cocktails here though. Ordered the boss old lady and it was delicious - could taste the vanilla, some fruit flavour and gin).
*
Ambience ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- Rebel blue created great ambience using shades of blue and white in its entire restaurant design, akin to the infamous Greek flight. Highly recommended for group events (birthdays or bridal showers).
*
Price ⭐️⭐️⭐️- we ordered a feed me menu ($49 per person) which excludes drinks and desserts. While we were quite stuffed, we wished that the feed me menu had a bit more meat dishes and maybe a dessert?
*
Presentation ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️- Food and drinks presentation (especially the cocktails) were great!
*
Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - The staff at Rebel Blue were very attentive and kind.

I have dietary restrictions (no lamb, goats cheese, sheeps milk cheese or cucumber) which makes me a horrible person to dine at a Greek Restaurant with, but the staff at Rebel Blue were able to point me in the right direction towards the dishes I could eat.

The warm mixed olives starter was surprisingly nice! I had never tried warmed olives before and now I can no longer eat olives cold!
Zucchini Fries - crunchy and hot
Octopus - Good texture, not too chewy, but not amazing.
Scallops - Beautifully presented and cooked well (not over-done).
Chicken Skewer - Tender, flavoursome, tasty.
Pita bread with Taramasalata - Oh my goodness! Highlight of the night! Absolutely delicious! Next time I'll just be eating chicken skewers and taramasalata with pita bread and I'd be delighted!
Cocktails - yum! Love the Greek influence on the classic cocktails.

Staff were attentive, friendly and helpful.
Ambiance was good.
Will definitely be back!

The ambience is good for a weekend night drink. Service here is super. Staff kindly ask about your request and deliver decent service. And most important, every dish tastes so perfect.
SuziEats
Great modern Greek restaurant where you can share delicious dishes. The ambience is very trendy and contemporary. The staff friendly and helpful.

Rebel blue has a really nice atmosphere for dinner date. We tried several dishes here. The highlight was lamb skewer with pita (the dish does not come with pita and sauce, but they are must order! ) and eggplant saganaki. Skewer was freshly cooked and came with a good flavor. Eggplant saganaki had a light spicy kick. Blue moon on tap was also very tasty when it came with a slice of lemon! However the zucchini chips and broccoli salad was a bit underwhelming. Zucchini chips was too soft and oily. Broccoli salad was grilled broccoli with feta and almond- the crunchy almond went well with broccoli, but the dish was a bit bland. Extraordinary customer service. Overall good experience.
Gastrology
Under the guidance of Head Chef, Dionisios Pouliezos (from Santorini, Greece), the kitchen is in safe hands. Pouliezos redefines and challenges traditional Greek cuisine with a menu that is rebellious yet honours its former Greek heritage.

To start we recommend some delicious saganaki – It is saganaki month at Rebel Blue after all! The fig saganaki was absolutely stunning. The marriage of salty pan-seared Kefalograviera, a robust sheep milk cheese originating from Greece, with sweet caramelised figs was an unbeatable combination. With the added textural kick from the chewiness of the cheese, this dish was an absolutely moreish appetiser.

Easily one of the best Greek restaurants I have been to. From the lamb skewers to their cutlets and to top off with their Loukoumades. The food is to die for and not to mention their well made cocktails with the Rebel Blue for those instagram worthy images. Safe to say we walked out in a food coma

I was yet to have Greek in Melbourne. And after I saw that Rebel Blue had a whole menu dedicated to saganaki I couldn’t say no.

The restaurant is bright, fresh and trendy. The staff are lovely and were very helpful with suggesting what dishes to get and how many to get of what.

We ordered A LOT. But all plates were finished and very very tasty.

We ordered:
Zucchini fries
Corn on the cob
Pitas and dip
Chicken and lamb skewers
Roasted vegetables
Broccoli
Iceberg wedge
Hot chip saganaki

All dishes were presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. Super simple dishes but executed perfectly.

MUST GO BACK TO TRY MORE SAGANAKI.

9/10
Quince And Cheese
Sampled a few dishes from the special saganaki menu at this gorgeous Greek restaurant. I love how on theme it is - the whole space is blue and white like the Greek flag, there are signs stating how many km to several Greek cities (and Oakleigh!) Even the drinks I tried were blue - one in colour and one in name (Blue Moon, served with an orange wedge as it should be).

Of course I loved the food. How can you go wrong with salty cheese? The first up was quince jam and fairy floss saganaki. While I always enjoy quince (my namesake), the fairy floss was a bit sweet for my liking. The next plate of fig-topped saganaki was a preferable sweet and savoury option. I also enjoyed the saganaki chips, topped with feta and served on a tomato base. Seemed like more feta than the cheese in focus, but still tasty.

A light iceberg lettuce salad and plate of dips and pita broke up all the cheese - the spicy red dip was amazing! But my favourite dish of all was a surprising one to me - the Nutella-topped saganaki. Although I do like cheese and chocolate, I thought this concept sounded a bit over the top, but I was wrong. The delicate drizzle of choc sauce and a fresh strawberry was a perfect balance to the super salty cheese. I now have a new snack to try and recreate at home. The salted caramel popcorn cheese was also a nice flavour combo to try. It's no chocolate hazelnut but it's also good.

Rebel Blue is a Greek Restaurant located in the Chapel St on the more busier street together with many big names restaurant around Windsor. The place is easily reached out 16 mins from Flinders Street Station by using tram 6. The place is really hard to be missed. You will see popping blue colored pipes across the ceiling and open space with lots of tables inside.

Looking for that classic but modern Greek styled food restaurant? This trendy Greek restaurant is located on Chapel Street, and perfect for that special dinner with friends or family. The interior is absolutely amazing! It’s a minimalist industrial styled dining room, that makes anywhere you sit a good spot! The food is your more modern styled famous Greek dishes that leave you feeling full and satisfied. We enjoyed some complimentary olives on arrival and we ordered the famous Rebel Blue cocktail and also a Greek G & T which was delicious and refreshing! The food was perfect, we loved the Greek ricotta filo pastry, and we loved the lamb that was cooked straight off the grill, along with hand cut Greek feta chips! The service also needs to be mentioned, really friendly and assertive. Make sure you visit this place soon!

We were invited to visit Rebel Blue. This is a funky restaurant on Chapel St.

I won’t comment on the service.

There were certainly some highlights such as the warm olives, the saganaki cheese end the spanakopita which was absolutely delicious.

The salmon skewers were cooked really well as the fish just fell off the skewer. We enjoyed the lamb skewers which had a good flavour.

That combined w a fresh and tasty salad and the food overall was definitely above average.

Great decor, great layout, the lamb skewers and cutlets were okay, the chips average, everything was of good standard, nothing special nothing exciting or standout

The new 'Rebel' is in town... Rebel Blue causing controversy on Chapel Street. A great well needed addition to Chapel Street. A funky Greek place like this was definelty missing and now its here. Offering a great array of cocktails and drinks and a very tradtional menu with some great dishes. A special mention to the Saganaki 🤤 Don't need to go to Oakleigh now you have an option on Chapel Street

It was a crazy 40+ degree Friday when we ate at Rebel Blue so made sense we start with some cocktails. The menu read very well in that department so we ordered a couple while we admired the fitout with blue neon and all those blue pipes going somewhere (or nowhere I later discovered). I ordered the Greek gin and WOW it was served with pepper and rosemary and cucumber, what a winning combo.

Kellie had the Mimi The Fuzz cocktail which was a watermelon, gin and aperol mix, this sweet drink had a with a hint of Turkish rose but was not too sweet, really delightful to sit and sip.

We ordered quite a few little dishes to try, started with some Olives, these little beauties where served warm and had been marinated in Greek herbs.

We had the stuffed tomatoes with wild rice, pine nuts and yoghurt. These little parcels had a great roast tomato flavour and a lovely texture when you bite into the pine nuts.

The Eggplant with slow roasted beef shoulder, was just like eating individual baby moussaka bites. Wonderful

Chargrilled octopus with a yellow split pea fava had a great herbed flavour, the grilling bought a beautiful crunch to the outside, it was kept fresh with the fresh squeeze of lemon, and was melt in your mouth tender.

Saganaki with lemon was served in a sizzling pan, this dish was simply perfection from the flavour to the squeaky texture, just so damn good. They had other varieties of saganaki on the menu but I always go for the classic.

We had a half serve of Lamb skewers and and half of chicken for our main along with dips, breads and an fairly impressive salad.

The chicken skewers were the most tender and juicy but the lamb won me over with its flavour. We tried the tzatziki and spicy capsicum dips but Kellie was most impressed with the taramasalata claiming it was the best she have ever eaten...simply drool worthy.

The Rainbow Tomato Greek salad, was a great mix of colour and super fresh ingredients with a great crunch and zingy dressing, the non salad fan at the table was even won over and went in for seconds!

We had intended to try a dessert of two but were beyond full despite halving some of our dishes... will have to try some next time for sure.

Not only was Rebel Blue our first invitation for 2019 but we were genuinely amazed by the fitout, quality food and friendly informed waiting staff.

Beautiful!
Delicious!
Friendly staff. Nice to see Greek good cooked and presented outside the box.
Cocktails are on point. Great night out with friends.

Nice flavours but extremely small portions. My partner and I are Greek and were expecting Greek portions from this restaurant. Octopus was laughably small. Left hungry. Better to go to a tavern for the same quality but proper portions

Had a dinner the other night with friends after chancing upon their food on insta. Overall food was simple and delicious. My favourite dish was the chicken skewer: moist tender and grilled to perfection. The grilled lamb should be given a special mention too! For a feed of three, we had over 5 different dishes which was satisfying. For that I give a 3.5 rating.

Guess what that night we bumped into Masterchef judge Gary Mehigan.. who knows you might meet next to your dinner table.

Some of the best Greek food in Melbourne! We came here yesterday with a group of 7, we ordered a massive amount of food and it was only about $50 per person (alcohol included) . I genuinely can’t say which meal was my favourite because they were all bloody delicious, I’ll definitely be going back and telling all my friends!

Very good Greek food, I’m surprised how good the food was. They have actually made Greek food cool. Enjoyed the cocktails, music a little too loud in the lady’s, toilet, service was great and what put a smile on my face is when the waitress dropped a glass and all wait staff said OPA.
@twogoodtoresist
Take a step into Greece with Rebel Blue. Modern Greek food with a twist! There wasn’t a dish we tried that we didn’t love. Their cocktail list is incredible. Top dishes included the saganaki, feta filo and saganaki triangles. The skewers with dip and pita are delicious too. Don’t look past the chocolate log for dessert- yummmm!

Awesome cocktails and food! Great staff and ambiance as well ! Would highly recommend the octopus fava dish and any of the drinks too!!! Must go
Miss N
Loved the look at the drinks! But me and my greek partner were disappointed with the food. The saganaki & loukamades were overcooked. Stuff tomatoes were ok. The lamb skewers were amazing.Big Brothers Drew was working at the bar which was my highlight of the night! Had seen MAFS stars post about this place so that y i tried it
Decent Feed
Rebel blue is a relatively new Greek restaurant that can be found amongst all the other eateries on busy Chapel Street.
Offering a few interesting and modern dishes on their limited menu, this was enough to entice us to come.
In a low lit space with a large seating area for the 2 of us, we started off the night with some complimentary olives- which my partner quite enjoyed.
The Feta- filo was delightful! Encasing the feta, is a delicately made filo pastry, with honey drizzled over the top. A simple dish with few ingredients, but creates an intense flavour.
The lamb cutlets were good. However for 4 small pieces, we felt that this was too pricey. Each piece was cooked perfectly, and seasoned nicely. Although, this dish isn’t anything too exciting, and is probably something you can make at home quite easily.
We also went with the Moo sah ka - a staff suggestion. Seeing as the menu offers several dishes with eggplant being the hero ingredient, it only made sense for us to try one of those dishes. With potato, beef, eggplant and bechamel, each bite was pleasant and comforting.
Whilst we did enjoy each dish, it also wasn’t show stoppingly good, just average. We also felt the serving size was quite small and didn’t fill us up too much.

Rebel Blue has landed in the heart of Chapel street. Co-founders George Loupos, Vinny Diaco and Rody Kaka are serving up fresh Greek cuisine with a rebellious modern take on classic dishes

My Key 3 Pointers
• All for modern if it is about innovation but if it’s not let’s call it exploitation. You be the judge
• Tick for the cocktails, service and complimentary olives and sparkling water
.• Nightclub or Restaurant? I want to hear the person across me

I really enjoy Greek food but unfortunately, this was a flop for me. Don’t expect large portion sizes, rather bite-size tapas experience with a modern twist. I did not consider it modern rather lacklustre small portions of food. I felt it was trying to convince diners the venue is hip so the food must be modern and good.
The Zucchini fritters and eggplant croquettes would have loved some seasoning. Very bland but both had a good crunch. The Chargrilled octopus was dry and I was surprised to see one small tentacle sliced paper thin. The stuffed tomatoes and a Greek-style San Choy Bow has the same stuffing. If I was aware I would not have ordered both. The eggplant with slow roasted beef shoulder and saganaki was good but not enough to convince me to come back.
We had booth style seating and the decor is lovely but the noise is deafening. Coming back home with soar vocal nodules only means one thing, Overuse. The service was friendly and I loved the bar. Great place to be on a crap first date, no need to talk just have a cocktail and admire the crowd.

Trendy new restaurant on chapel street with tasty food and cool vibe. Between two we shared the eggplant croquettes, the saganaki, the octopus, the lamb skewers which came with pita and dips and the broccoli with feta. I really enjoyed all of the dishes but the saganaki was a definite favourite. My only comment is that the croquettes were unusually tiny. Still nice though.
Hungry Tum
Bravo! Every dish we had was delicious. The food is very well executed Greek food (a cut above your typical Greek eatery) at very reasonable prices. The saganaki was the best I've had and the lentil, grain and pomegranate salad was superb. We also loved the eggplant with beef cheek entree and the medley tomato Greek salad. The skewers were tender and tasty, served with a selection of dips. We also appreciated the complimentary sparkling water. The service was amazing - helpful, friendly and highly attentive.

Friendly staff and great fit out.
Had chicken and prawn skewers, stuffed tomatoes and green beans with feta.
Food was delicious, full of flavour and good variety of share plates across the menu- looking forward to coming back to try a few more.

Newly opened greek joint, love the cheese filo- the honey and sesame touch was delightful, saganaki well cooked and was the right balance and eggplant croquettes were a surprise. They offered complimentary olives and sparkling water what a bonus. White wine mussels, seared scallops with lemon and king prawn skewers were delicious. Skewers come with a side of dip we had tzazaki and it was amazing! Cocktails and service top notch

This boutique Greek restaurant is a must. The finishes to the refurb are clean and neat with full use of space. Staff are lovely and very friendly especially when help is needed.
The food... Moo-sah-ka, lamb skewers, and the pretty Nikki's prawn saganaki are definitely ones to order if you are in for your first time.
Cocktails, everybody is different and I'm going the pretti Nikki makers mark everytime
