We were there for a work function and we had a great time the service was wonderful and the food was exceptional! Will definitely be returning again, thanks Barry, Staff and the Piano Man:))
Delicious Authentic vietnamese food with outstanding service from bartender
Delicious food, I love the entrees and mains. Great service, thank you
Great bun bo hue (spicy beef soup with chilli and lemongrass) this side of the river. Not super spicy but great flavour, even when compared to Richmond restaurants. They also use vermicelli noodles instead of the thicker ones you usually get.
Came here with a 40% discount via eatclub. The duck rice paper rolls were awesome! Satay chicken skewers and roti were decent. Went with green curry, pad Thai, and pork belly for mains. Pork belly was my favourite, highly recommend. Overall it was a pretty good takeaway experience!
I get takeaway here a fair bit and it's always very tasty. All the pho varieties are good and everything else we have tried has been solid. Dine-in is great too. It's a really good venue for any occasion. Lunch specials are very reasonable too.
Loved the food and the cozy atmosphere but what was really outstanding was the service and the fact that they remembered me after only been one time keep up the good work definetely recommended
My hubby and I dropped in for an early dinner.
For entree we had Malaysian roti that had been rolled up and pressed with broccoli, spinach, crab meat, prawn meat, satay sauce, fried onions and herbs. This was amazing!
For mains we both had the rice vermicelli with crispy belly pork. The dish was beautifully balanced with everything combining to make a wonderful meal. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant very nicely laid out. This is now our go to restaurant when we are in the area.
Highly recommended.
So yummy! Had dinner here tonight and there were so many options and really good value, friendly staff. Can recommend the dim sum platter and happy hour!
Tried this restaurant and it was wonderful. We ordered a few different dishes to share and they were all delicious. Very fresh and staff are outstanding. Definitely recommend this place.
Had a quick pre-dinner snack of San Choi Bao. Not the best I've had but certainly satisfied my need for some relatively light sustenance. Veggies could have been fresher, but otherwise can't complain.

Gorgeous casual dining on chapel street which also has seating out the front. The large menu has authentic Vietnamese dishes plus some Thai fusion and desserts.
The meals area a good size and came out quite quickly. Everything we ordered was delicious and the staff are super sweet and helpful.
They have lunch specials Monday to Friday plus cocktails are $10 during happy hour
Visiting this lovely place with family. The service were absolutely great and every dish was fresh and plenty of flavour. Location is also great for a not too cold day.
After waiting a few minutes to be seated in this mordern little restaurant despite us being two of the four people there at the time, our doubts about the service were quickly put to rest when we were greeted by the really friendly waitress. We ordered two steamed baos; one chicken and one pork. These for me were the highlight of the night. Deliciously juicy and full of flavour. For mains we had the salt and pepper calamari, diced beef steak and the special fried rice. All three dishes were amazing and I really cannot fault any part of these dishes and they were all reasonably priced. The hardest part was choosing my favourite. Absolutely will be coming back here.
Delicious Vietnamese food with friendly, quick service!
We ordered the spring rolls, Vietnamese clay pot with pork belly and fried rice, as well as the rare beef salad which was 10/10! The salad was refreshing with a generous amount of beef. Can’t fault this place!
Went looking for pho nearby and ended up here, very happy we did. Was quiet when we were there at around 5:30 but I’m sure it gets busy as many tables were reserved. The guy working there was very friendly and polite, gave us some good recommendations on the menu. Happy hour for half price drinks.
Food was great, service was great and loved the atmosphere. Thumbs up.
We had Mother's Day dinner here last night an it was amazing! We ordered the $38 pp banquet, with a wide variety of dishes including; entre and a main consisting of pork, duck, barramundi, beef dishes and dessert! With a great vibe and friendly staff too.I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to try a Vietnamese place on Chapel Street!
Good food, had a really nice beef salad there. Good cocktails, from 4.30 for a few hours, selected ones are only $10 - we had espresso martini which was yum! Fast service, however we were there during quiet hour so not sure how it is when busy. There was a young guy playing the piano inside so that was really nice to enjoy with the meal.
Very delicious and flavourful! The peanut sauce for the chicken satay was yum! Loved my spicy beef soup noodles. The beef salad was lovely. All in all very satisfying for very good value! Would definitely be back for seconds!
Love the refurbishment. It looks much more inviting now with its Scandi-Asian look. Lamb ribs with lemongrass are to die for and the pho’s always satisfying.
My partner and I frequently come here for 3 reason, the food quality is consistently delicious, the happy hour prices are a worth it, and the staff are very friendly. I recommend the duck curry and the vegetable pho + seafood with egg noodles!
Decent Vietnamese food, the grand piano is amazing, the guys that work there are great tim tam is a great host!!! The out door area is nice when the sun is out or on a warm night!
Great spot for some tasty Vietnamese food and a good spot to catch up with friends. The staff are super friendly and make the experience so much more fun. Great recommendation is the crispy fried chicken.
Very similar to the a Vietnamese restaurants I've been to the past. A good dose of the familiar, having the complimentary prawn crackers was a great change from the usual Vietnamese restaurants. I ordered Vermicelli Noodle Salad with Chicken, and it tasted quite nice, my friend ordered Lemon Chicken and he really enjoyed it, we also ordered a vegetarian vermicelli salad with tofu for my vego friend which wasn't as nice as the other options due to the amount of turmeric. The wall artwork is beautiful and is painted by the owner, there is also a piano there which would fantastic if they hired a jazz pianist to play once a week.
A chilled out restaurant that gives you your classic dose of Vietnamese nostalgia.
I've been eating at New Wind since about 2012 and have never had a bad meal here. The food is consistently good, the soups are excellent value and the staff are always an absolute pleasure to deal with.
My hot tip: Get in to the fried wontons as a starter and give their Pho a try, it's a little different and seriously good.
Another of my weekly fav places to go to after training at NICA. Not great 3 coloured drink but their thai salad is tasty. Lots of choices on their menu and the coconut rice is delish!
Went here tonight with my partner's family. We had a nice night and was definitely a reasonable price but there were a few issues. We ordered our drinks, and they came out quickly and icy cold (beers and cokes, so this was a good thing!). We were also brought some free prawn crackers for the table, which was a nice touch. We started with the spring rolls and the mini dim sims. We were only brought out 4 dim sims instead of 5. The spring rolls were really tasty though. I ordered a Coke after everyone else had placed their drink orders but I think she forgot about it and I had to order it again. I ordered the Pho for dinner, Josh ordered the Roast Duck and everyone else ordered a variety of the noodle dishes. We had two servers this evening, the girl seemed a little bit lost but the man who served us was attentive and checked up on us regularly. All in all, it was an enjoyable and affordable night out!

Our Favourite little hub! Awesome food and cheap as chips!!! The perfect place to go and get a quick, easy and fresh meal. Service is great, and the food is so tasty! highly recommend.
Cheap and cheerful!! As always the food doesn't disappoint. Nothing hugely exciting about the menu, very standard Asian selection, but everything is great!! Very fresh and delicious. Service good!
We're impressed!!
This is a great and vibrant Vietnamese bar/cafe/restaurant with a lot of atmosphere in Chapel Street that needs to be visited and explored. From the first mouthful of prawn dumplings, my wife and I knew we'd found something special - the delicate use of spices hit the palate perfectly. This was followed up by a magnificent serve of diced spiced beef, which was served with a splendid mix of salt, pepper and lemon, balanced at the right concentration to enhance the flavour of the beef which was cooked to perfection. Add in a serve of coconut rice followed up by some awesome cocktails made by the barkeep, and this was a great meal which didn't break the bank either.
I've seen others mention that service hasn't been great here in the past - all we can say is: "Don't believe the naysayers". It was quite busy here tonight, but we were served within reasonable time and didn't wait too long. I've only marked slightly down due to a few too many onions in the main meal - otherwise, perfect!! We look forward to returning regularly!! :)
New Wind is your slightly above average busy Thai restaurant. There's plenty on the menu and it's fairly well priced with reasonable quantities. I've had a few hiccups with poor service when dining at the restaurant but it's excusable since it was fairly busy. For the most part they're on top of it and their delivery is usually very fast. The food is what you'd expect, solid Thai, nothing more nothing less.
Amazing food and a really broad menu selection. Service is friendly and timely! Always a great experience and nice to have a BYO place on Chapel!
Always have a great experience at New Wind, the food tastes great - the duck rice paper roles are particularly delicious. There is a really cheap lunch menu, the service is fast and the staff are attentive.
Love this place, easily go to pho along chapel, also great seafood combo stir fry noodles! 😍
Always filled with people and great atmosphere!
Diana. Once again another cheap cheerful establishment where one gets what one pays for
Great cheap eat destination. Love new wind restaurant. With a huge selection to choose from you wont leave this restaurant wanting.
With attentive staff and a great menu. I am happy to say that this is one of my fav's on chapel street. That they are always busy is a bit of a give away.
Thanks guys :D

Had the most amazing salt and pepper soft shell crab here last night. Will definitely be back. Really nice waitress and good, low key atmosphere.
DELICIOUS!. Some of the best duck rice paper rolls I've ever had! The pho is absolutely amazing as well, all the dishes at new wind are fresh and full of flavour. Loved the red wine as well suggested by the lovely and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back.
Try it yourself!. The food was amazing, the special fried rice and duck rice paper rolls are my absolute favourite. Good price and good wine selection. Attentive service, the staff are very friendly i would bring bring friends here and will recommend this to my uni friends.
This is a good little place to eat. Cheap, consistent and tasty. Tried it for the first time 3 months ago and we eat there at least once a week ever since.
I think it has become my favorite. Great staff, amazing service. Friendly smile and always looking out for us. Cheap and delicious. I'm sims daughter I absolutely love it! I think sim has developed a total obssession with it. They have great service and are very friendly staff
Pho was the best i ever had in Melbourne.
Tasty! Cheap! But get there early. More authentic Vietnamese food than most of the new style trendy Vietnamese restaurants around. Far more tasty too! Cheap but make sure you get in early (but not too early'cause i don't want to be waiting long either ;) otherwise you'll be waiting
Excellent Food Loved it!. I went there the other night with 2 girlfriends for dinner. We booked a table but the restaurant wasn't busy. We ordered eight entrees to share and all of them were very tasty, I was impressed. For main we had the coleslaw and a chicken stir fry, very nice food. The prices are very reasonable and not over the top. A great place to bring the family for a meal. The only downside was that the waiter was very slow in attending to our requests. It took him about 25 minutes to ask us for our order. I must admit we were chatting but he could have asked if we wanted to start off with a drink.
Great priced food that tastes fantastic.
I have been to the restaurant and ordered take away a number of times and it has always been fantastic...the curry laska is great!
The restaurant is a little tired and could do with an upgrade but they make up for it with great service, great food and the best prices around. Have a few drinks then come here for some food and more drinks...you won't be disappointed.
Not sure why there is mixture of good/bad comments on here.........this place is gem!
Delish!. We had a beautiful dinner here last night. Our waiter was lovely and the food was quick, tasty and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back.
Classic local Viets. It's a little trashy and dirty but great food that's cheap, quick and consistent. Good place for a easy feed before a night out.
New Wind Never lets you down. I have visited New Wind for many years and they never seem to let you down. Prices are very modest and the food is consistently tasty and generous in portions. Recommendations include Lemongrass chicken, quail, rice paper rolls (VERY fresh - still warm), chilli beef, noodle soups, Banana fritter with ice cream. The banquets are excellent value too. Also, the staff try hard to impress, which is a rarity now days.
Great. We,ve lived in the area for over 20 years. This place is greets value. When you go ask about how this family came from Vietnam. What a story. The food is very tasty and authentic. Gimme those spring roles and wontons now.
The wine and drinks are a greatvprice for Chapel St.
Ask Tommy to ply the Piano... He!s rather good.
Classic name. Admittedly it took a while for me to click; mother always called me a bit slow. Cheap food, BYO, could you ask for more?
Amazing place to grab a quick dinner or start the night - byo on chapel st? Yes please! Try the prawn stuffed duck chefs special for something different. Oh and the restaurant name only took me like a year to "get."
