Review Shanghai Street - Windsor

Delicious food, great customer service. Loved every bit. Thank you!

really love the fried quail, that’s soooo yummy and the beef was delicious, worth it!
jemma !!
I ordered the mongolian beef on door dash. The food was delicious and very generous portion size for the price!

We had been intending to come in from the time they opened and finally have! We enjoyed the casual atmosphere and the generous serves of favourites like Sweet and Sour and Honey Chicken. Their selection was broad and traditional. The staff were polite and friendly.

I’ve been coming here on and off for five years. It’s one of the few Chinese restaurants that in the south east of Melbourne that I really enjoy. In particular I won’t eat beef at any other Chinese restaurant in the area. We took the family to celebrate an occasion and it was completely empty when we arrived at about 6:15pm. By 6:45pm every table was full. It was an impressive transition but the service suffered pretty badly. The food was slow to arrive and the staff didn’t visit our table at all for the rest of the meal. The food was good but not quite as good as every other time I’ve eaten there. The serving sizes where oddly inconsistent. Some of us went home hungry and some where completely full. For old times sake I’m giving it four stars. If it was the first time I’d eaten there I’d probably give it three stars.

So happy to have discovered this in the neighbourhood, the lunch specials are great value and quality - and the xiao long bao are both delicate and flavoursome. All the dishes I saw coming out of the kitchen looked and smelled delicious! Can't wait to try more dishes.

I rarely rate a restaurant 5 star but this one deserves. Hands down the best chicken fried rice in town. We ordered some other stuff too (Szechuan beef and xao bao) with asahi beer but the dam rice was so tasty, finger licking delicious! The beef was tender but sweet and the dumplings were good. Definite must visit!

There is only one other that I have loved as much as this, phenomenal work, quick service, good portion size and great customer service. Thank you team, will return / order again for sure! Update 23/04/2022: I have now had the luxury of dining in at the restaurant as well as an additional order via DoorDash. Both experiences have been amazing. Their chicken (We had Sweet & Sour, no batter) is phenomenal, their Beef (Both regular and Filet Mignon) are also phenomenal. Mongolion and Cantonese sauces are both beautiful. Finally, their singapore noodles like their special fried rice, are absolutely terrific and are a great share on the table. Customer Service was friendly and fast, overall an excellent experience, they deserve much more custom. Officially my new #1 location for Chinese food here in Melbourne. Thank you!

Ordered:<br/>- spring onion pancake <br/>- Pork and prawn wonton in chilli oil, sesame and peanut sauce <br/>- Pork dumplings in chilli oil<br/>- Pork xiao long bao<br/><br/>Spring Onion Pancake: too thick and a little bland<br/>Wontons: Overboiled so skin broke apart but decent flavour<br/>Dumplings: Oddly served: dumplings in bowl of hot water with a dash of chilli oil (but no flakes). Tasted like plain boiled dumplings.<br/>XLB: Good flavouring but again, skin lacked structural integrity so 5/8 of them broke <br/><br/>Overall: good value for money as total was pretty cheap BUT personally wouldn’t come back

It's great to see our go to dumpling restaurant expanding all around Melbourne. This Shanghai Street is quite spacious and the dumplings are just as good as their other stores. If you're after a xiao long bao fix in Windsor, this is the place to go.
Hello. Imnikki
3.5<br/><br/>At Shanghai Street, you're pretty much guaranteed decent dumplings and XLB and on this occasion it was no different.<br/><br/>The XLB are of the kind with a layer of thin and silky skin and reasonably generous amount of fillings stuffed inside. The soup inside was a bit lukewarm but taste-wise, no complains there.<br/><br/>The pan fried chicken and prawn dumplings were slightly less satisfying. The dumpling skin was on the thicker side, but the fillings deserved credit. Juicy, tender and flavourful.<br/><br/>Always a cheap and cheerful meal to be had here, and service is not as bad as some says. In fact, I found the staffs here to be friendly and patient.

Came here for dinner recently, the service was fast and everything operated smoothly. The food was well presented and delicious, with generous portion sizes for very reasonable prices. There’s a lot of average Chinese restaurants out there but this ain’t one of them. I would recommend.

To be fair, the dumplings are good but the service is terrible ! The absolute worst service, wrong food being delivered constantly and $8.00 per bottle BYO corkage on a Friday night .... what a joke !

Love this place, and have never had a bad meal!<br/>Cheap & cheerful, and food is always fresh & full of flavour.<br/><br/>Top picks:<br/>Pan fried Pork dumplings<br/>Green beans with spicy minced pork<br/>Shanghai pork belly in steamed buns - Melt in your mouth!!<br/>Pork Xiaolongbao <br/>Special fried rice - always delicious!<br/>

I ordered the roasted crispy skin duck, Xiao Long Bao dumplings and wontons in chilli oil with a peanut sauce. I would highly recommend all these dishes. Quick service and friendly staff. We also brought a bottle of wine and weren’t charged corkage. Overall, great dumplings and fantastic for a small dinner or a large group.

Passed by this place one fine Sunday and thought about yummy xiao long bao. So we decided to have a seat and ordered xiao long bao, spring onion pancake, hot and sour soup, and homemade noodle. Their xiao long bao was tasty and yummy, the pancake was a little too dry, hot and sour soup was tasty, but the noodle was too oily. We didn't really enjoy the noodle.

I’m not a fan of eating purely dumplings for lunch, but my in laws are major fans of this cuisine and outlet. Service was alright, food came quickly and the cost is fairly reasonable at about $10 per plate. Dip it in vinegar and you are in for a wonderful treat! Would come back, perhaps to try the rice and noodle dishes.<br/><br/>second visit: do not order the noodles! I found it too oily and not enough meat. Please stick to dumplings

Shanghai street dumplings in Windsor. Dumplings are one of my favourite dishes and they do serve good Shanghaiese dumplings. Also spicy sour pork and homemade gramma pork are must order dishes as well.

When all else fails, go to Shanghai Street. Very consistent quality and quick, attentive service. Excellent dumplings, especially the pan-fried pork! Very reasonably priced too.

Ordered between two (total $46):<br/>-Peking Duck<br/>-Chicken & prawn Xiao Long Bao<br/>-Fried pork dumplings<br/>-Choi Sum with garlic<br/><br/>I think all one should need to know about this outlet is that it is as good as the other in Chinatown (which, if you don’t already know, is the one usually with a line out the door). Everything we ate was of a good standard and inexpensive. The staff were attentive and helpful. <br/><br/>BYO wine is free on Thursdays!
Bianca Tricia
My partner and I come here a lot. We can highly recommend the boiled and fried pork dumplings! The Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce is a winner too! :)
Flying Forward
Sorry, the gua bao is flat and not fluffy, looks a bit sad. <br/>The xiao long bao doesn't have too much soup in it.<br/>The pan fried pork dumplings was the style with a thicker skin but didn't have any soup in it at all. Good flavour though.<br/>One of the more disappointing franchisees of Shanghai Street.

We were at Chapel street last Saturday and had lunch here. Place was clean, friendly staff and I like the gray wall and randomly positioned artificial plants. <br/>Tea was served when we sat down and was continuously refilled! After we ordered, our food came out quick and super hot and fresh. We ordered the the Ciao long bao plus Pork & Chives and Prawn & Chicken fried dumplings. Absolutely delicious and reasonable priced. Definitely will comeback!
Kuishinbo
The chicken and prawn steamed dumplings came out raw in the middle... <br/>the table next to us were also complaining about their food and had their dish taken back. <br/>The texture of the skin was dry and thick and the meat wasn't really tasty, even though its pricier than other dumpling places nearby.
Kristie Koo
One of the better dumpling places I’ve had in Melbourne. The crab & pork Xiao long bao was tasty even though I got it takeaway, the soup didn’t leak out. The fried chicken and prawn dumplings were nice, with a thick flour skin. The chilli was also amazing, both slightly sweet and savoury at the same time. Good and polite service from the staff, they weren’t stingy with the condiments and utensils. I will be back :)
The Casual Diner
Lunch on the run, and thought we come in here for a quick serve of dumplings. We ordered the pork Xio Long Bao (these were not as delicate as some others we have tried in terms of skin thickness and texture, and they don’t serve theirs with sliced ginger BUT the flavours were great and the soup intact), the spring onion pancakes (these were moorish and tasty), the spicy dan dan noodle (a bit disappointing as these were not that spicy and the noodles were clumped together), and some chicken and pork dumplings in spicy soup (good dumplings but the soup could do with a bit more flavour). Overall, a satisfying visit. Service was prompt and friendly and price of food reasonable for what you get.
Amy
This is a great cheap and cheerful place for dumplings we had xiao long bao, sheng jian bao and custard bao, all of it was delicious. The dumplings are juicy and fresh and the service is friendlly. It is great value for money.
Nick
It's was OK. Dumpling is good but noddle soup a little bit no tasty. And fried rice is just OK as well. Not good but not bad. Just average like normal China Town Chinese restaurant.
Simmyeats.Melb
My friend was craving dumplings and she recommended this place, she has been here many times before.  I am probably not the best to review as I am not a real dumpling person, I don't eat them often and when I do I like to have them as an accompaniment with other food - just my own personal preference.  She ordered the vegetarian boiled dumplings which she loved and I had the chicken and prawn boiled dumplings which were nice but I soon got bored of the taste after the third one I ate.  The chicken and prawn tasted more like a pork to be honest (weird I know) but I couldn't really taste any prawn, the dough was quite thick too.  The price was good and I would go back however I would probably go back with a group as to try different dumplings or food off the menu.

Popped in late on a Thursday night - hungry for sustenance. Ordered soup, spring rolls and chicken. Soup arrived first - hot and tasty with shreds of egg through it. Spring rolls were delicious and crispy. Finally the chicken- nicely seasoned and not too salty. Enjoyable meal.
Quinn
I spent my lunch here on a busy Thursday afternoon.<br/>I had Xiao long chicken and prawns and Mapo tofu. All are well-seasoned and tasty. <br/>The service is nice and friendly.<br/>Overall it was a good experience yet nothing’s special to come back.
Dam Burger
Easy and cheap place to come with a group of people. Byo your own wine and makes for easy catch up place to share some dumplings. Friendly staff too

Was craving dumplings so decided to give this place a shot I ordered the chicken and prawn dumplings and some spring rolls both came out quickly which was good as I was starving the spring rolls were very nice and they made in house dumplings were also very good well priced and good sized will drop in again if I'm in the area.

After the bad experience last time by calling from a guy who chased up for our booking, we decided to give this restaurant a second chance. Made a booking at 7:30 and we were on time this time. We made an order from a guy and he was so so good, he knows everything on the menu and I am sure he was not the guy who approached us last time with booking. Last time the guy talked shit English but this time the guy is totally different. He explained everything well and gave us five stars services. The foods were amazing such as spicy chickens and also the peanut butter wonton. You don't expect to have such a good services in dumpling restaurant but this one is not the same. We will be back again and again. We will look for that guy to order for us again!
Zack Ping
Nice and tidy menu and the food comes out pretty quick! <br/><br/>My selection would have to involve any of the dumplings (steamed or pan fried) though, the Lan fried pork buns are juicy and crunchy! (How do they do that!) would have to accompany the classic shanghai noodles! Hmmmm soo good!
Whats On The Grill?
I love dumplings regardless of how well they're made but these are certainly not the best in the area. Only had the xiao long boa this time round but have had some of the other dishes in the past (they're not worth getting again). Atmosphere of the restaurant however is like all good dumpling houses should be - loud, chattery and slightly chaotic.
Bella
Been here many times, great place to meet up with friends to BYOW and eat mass amounts of dumplings. Fried, boiled, in oil... all delicious. Shanghai noodles are a great accompaniment. Service is fine buts it's the food you come here for.

Cannot go wrong with this place for dumplings! My bf and I are here almost every fortnight just to eat xiao long bao and the wontons in chilli oil and peanut butter sauce. We have also had the pan fried dumplings and dumplings in chilli oil soup. Xiao long bao is almost consistent everytime, but there has been times where some of the baos have arrived with no soup. Great value for money as well!

Went to shanghai street this evening and saw an incident happened between the staff and the customer. We were sitting just behind the counter and heard that there was a dispute between a staff and a female customer. We felt sorry for that nice male staff as the lady ordered the take away wrongly but forced the male staff to either give her the refund or re do the dumplings for her. She suddenly has gone crazy and yelled at the staff. As a customer, i know that customer service is important but from what i can see the lady did really order wrongly but insisted that the staff was wrongly taken her order. I love shanghai street and the services which provide from the staff and thats why i am putting this review up.

Best dumplings in melbourne by far! Always fresh and fast. Staff know us so well, always try to accomodate us specially on the busy nights, actually most nights are busy. No.8 on the menu is a must get, however all the dumplings are great. Duck pancakes are yummy too, only negative on the menu that I have had was the fried rice was overly yum, very sweet taste.
DuckieLovesToEat
We came here on a Friday night and this place was very busy. Thankfully we were seated straightaway considering its popularity. We had xiao long bao, calamari and kung pao and rice on the side. The food was tasty but I find that the xiao long bao was not very good. It was dry inside and the pastry was so thick it didn't resemble the xiao long bao that I am used to. The place is also very crowded and due to that very loud. If you are aiming to have an intimate night and wanting to have a decent conversation then scrape that idea on a Friday night. You literally need to scream to chat.

One of my go-to places for authentic dumplings and noodles. Pan fried pork buns is a must try. Service is always prompt. Reasonable prices, food portion is generous.

Love it here!!!<br/><br/>It has a great vibe whether busy or quiet. We come here a lot and do many dishes, like mapo tofu and the range of dumplings. The service is always really good. Thanks guys!

Initially we had our hearts set out to try Mr Miyagi which was just down the road but disheartened after hearing that the wait would be two and a half hours, we ventured down Chapel street looking for something else to fill our hungry stomachs. Walking past Shanghai Street, we saw some big and delicious dumplings on a table and we were lured in.<br/><br/>Luckily for us there was no wait as we came just when a big table left. We had the crispy skin boneless duck, pork xiao long pao, pork pan fried dumpling and San choi bao. The food was delicious (you must try the pan fried dumplings), it was very affordable, and surprisingly the staff were very attentive, polite and friendly. Honestly whenever I walk into a Chinese restaurant I expect horrible customer service so this was a definite bonus.

Extremely rude service. Went to get dinner and told there would be a 20 min wait for a table which was fine with us so we put our number down and waited for a call. 45 min we come me back to check and we're told that al the tables were just taken and they didn't have our phone number. Never experienced cub rude service don't go here .

Cheap, easy & delicious dumplings. Really underated and doesn't look that appealing but $50 will get you 2 plates of dumplings, fried rice and a couple of beers. (Food is more than enough for 2 people - we ended up taking some home). So tasty and we didn't realise but it's also BYO.
Shelly
<br/>We had dumplings on our food crawl on a cold Friday night. The wait was apparently 30mins, but we were shown a table within 10minutes! bonus! The staff here are very friendly and the xiao long bao we had were incredibly juicy, not hard and meaty, like many other ones I've had. We also had the custard buns. Great value for money, great staff and a fun vibe!

小笼包是真的好吃,其它都很普通,口味比较「老外」,windsor的店不用排队。<br/>Juicy buns (xiao long bao) are really great. The rest are fast food level.

Seeking a latish feed and stumbled across this place. Dumplings are always a favourite of mine and the service as expected was excellent and efficient. The San Choy bau was a new experience for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the filling given it's abundance in flavour. The vegetable dumplings filling tasted fresh and the taste was good but perhaps I wouldn't have them again, as I may try to get something more flavoursome. The final plate was vegetable fried noodles, this was nice, colourful fresh, and something worth having. Overall great serving sizes and good prices.

This place - like its sister restaurants in the CBD - just nails it when comes to dumplings and the accompanied chilli-oil. You'll get 3 less dumplings for your money as rents must be expensive in this suburb (or patrons of this suburb must associate inexpensive food as "cheap" and avoidable) but the taste is same as the ones you'll get in the city. Their pan-fried pork dumplings, steamed chicken & prawn dumplings, and pork dumplings in chilli-oil are the best. They accept cards but if your bill is less than $20, they'll charge you 50 cents surcharge; not ideal but fair enough. Highly recommended.

Another quiet place on Chapel st. we went to, but it wasnt disappointing at all! Very reasonable price and portion. We only had one plate each and we were full. Quite satisfying. :)
Birdman
My god this place is a disappointment. Went to the one in the city and it was horrific but was begged by a friend to give it another go and I reckon it was worse. Those buns that are fried on the bottom are always burnt, impossible to eat as it's just a crunchy mess and always ridiculously hot. Terrible place and will never ever return to any Shanghai Street dumpling place again.
Renee Russo
It's about time we got some decent dumplings in our hood. The soup dumplings are to die for, great hangover cure! The prices are super reasonable too.

Don't be put off by the decor. We ordered a selection from the menu and wasn't disappointed by anything. The fried pork dumplings were crispy on the bottom and soft and juicy on the inside with great flavours even without adding vinegar or soy. The spring rolls were standard. The BBQ pork wrap was really nice for an entree. The pork belly with Chinese steamed bread was amazing, the pork was a bit fatty but obviously so as its the belly, it was easy enough to separate from the meat though. The dining area lacked decoration it was very basic table and chairs place. The wait staff were great and our food came out very quickly, seems we just missed the dinner rush as we arrived 5.30 with a few other tables and by the time we left it was full. Looking around at other diners food the steamed dumplings were very popular and not one left behind. The garlic chilli chicken smelt and looked amazing. And the wonton soup seemed popular. Will return to try more of the yummy dumplings.

Food is good but the guys need to learn what customer service mean. We called them 15 minutes before 3, their lunch break. They refused to take our order and then we arrived 2.57 pm and still refused to let us order and eat in house. I was soo angry and the guy didn't even say sorry . <br/>I loved that place but I won't go back. Shame

Ok this I will admit is my secret comfort spot!. If you haven't tried the dumplings or the Xiao long bao (hope I've spelt that correctly?), I highly recommend you must!!.. I would be close to say they are as good as (if not better!, 😱) then hu tong dumplings!!!... Very reasonable prices, a plate of 12 dumplings, a server of eggplant with ginger sweet n sour sauce, 2 serves of steam rice approx $26. Enough for 2 people. They have been consistent with their food each time I've gone, I highly recommend!
Haiku Guy
Came for the dumplings.<br/>My first dumplings in Melbourne.<br/>Not been beaten yet.<br/><br/>Even if I'm full.<br/>When someone says 'more dumplings?'<br/>Always room for more.
EJA
Amazing dumplings and Chinese broccoli with either sauce. Really good reasonable prices. Tasty as but I suspect msg is used as I always feel a little off a few hours after eating here (bloated & dehydrated, telltale signs of MSG use). If you're ok with that, you'll love the food. Don't expect any fancy decor, it's all about fast paced tasty dining here.

Streets ahead. There's a reason Shanghai St shops are springing up everywhere. Great food, fast and friendly service, and excellent value. The Windsor version is no exception.<br/><br/>I'd missed the arrival of SS in the revived block between Dandenong Rd & High St, which used to solely be the province of pawn shops. With a 7.30pm show at the Astor Theatre, less than an hour to eat, and a friend with a hankering for noodles, SS was just what we needed. Greeted and seated in seconds, menus appeared almost immediately, and drinks orders were taken.<br/><br/>I convinced my friend to try the iconic pork xiao long bao. With light yet strong wrappers, the flavours burst forth as we bit in, with wonderfully gingery juice. My only quibble would be that the oriental spoons were a little small to balance the bao - making them as messy as they were delicious, especially for my friend on her first go.<br/><br/>Because too many dumplings are never enough, l also had the vegetable wontons in soup. Satiny, slippery wontons with excellent herbs and soothing chicken stock were topped with slivers of spring onions and omelette. Textbook perfection. My friend's Shanghai noodles were huge and satisfying plus not too spicy for her.<br/><br/>Everything arrived within 10 minutes, and the whole bill, with tea and a soft drink, came to less than $35!! Get yourself to one of these soon and/or often. I love the CBD one with the 'Dupling' sign 😊 but they're all impressively good.

Melbourne has its fair share of dumpling/Asian eateries, this looked popular and busy on a Thursday night - but that was misleading, the food was distinctly average.<br/><br/>Perhaps it was our ordering choices? The 'San Choi Bau' was nice, although only came with two lettuce cups, however the chicken mince filling was tasty and plentiful. The dumplings were the highlight - generous, really flavoursome (pork and chive) and very good. Everything else however was a total disappointment; the worst being the bacon and prawn fried rice (2 prawns!), frozen cubed vegetables and totally flavourless and then the honey chicken - sickly, unbalanced and bizarrely tasting of doughnuts (perhaps the density and sweetness of the batter). <br/><br/>The place itself is fine - noisy, groups etc. but to be expected for the price and quality. Don't go there if your on a date or wanting a quiet conversation.<br/><br/>Won't go back, so many other places doing better in the area.
Sabrina Lee
Oh wow!!! I was so surprised how good was Xiao Long Bao there, This is my new favorite ❤️ XLB place !!!! Definitely will be back 😋😋😋

We've heard so many great reviews about this little gem that we had to try it out ourselves, and we certainly were NOT disappointed.  :)<br/><br/>This evening, my wife and I finally caved in to our temptation and decided to go visit and see what everyone was raving about.  My wife has never been satisfied with Xiao Long Bao in the past but was quite impressed with the Crab and Pork Xiao Long Bao that was served tonight, as was I (this was my first ever serve).  But... our minds were completely blown when the serving of homemade boiled chicken and prawn dumplings were delivered to our table - all we could say was "wow", and then "wow" again!!  It could only be described as an explosion of the senses, with an indescribable mix of spices that complimented the chicken and prawn perfectly.  Absolutely fantastic and highly recommended, for sure!!  :)<br/><br/>We can't wait to return and try out the pan fried dumplings as well as the incredible range of main courses that are available at this fine establishment (the roasted crispy skin duck in the 'hot appetizers' sounds quite appealing too).  The service provided was attentive, without being over the top, whilst the venue itself was slightly noisy but not overbearing (you could at least still carry on a decent conversation without raising your voice to a great extent).<br/><br/>Oh, and by the way, please do ignore the highlight message of "no takeaway" since this restaurant certainly does provide the option of "pickup" - we can confirm that you can definitely call up the restaurant to place an order for pickup, or you can order at the counter and takeaway your order.  Great if the restaurant gets busy, like it did when we finished our meal.  Bonus!!  :)  Don't miss out on this one - you'll be sure to regret it otherwise.

Had the best dumplings I have ever had in Melbourne here today. Popped in at around 1.30 as I was researching where to get good xiao long bao. Aunties in Carnegie is our local however lately it's been really slipping- there are new owners I believe which could be part of the reason (but that's for another review). Xiao long bao were absolutely stunning, juicy, delicious and perfect. Also ordered Shanghai noodles which were salty and amazing, and my boyfriend ordered fried chicken and prawn dumplings which he enjoyed. I've eaten at the CBD location and this smashes it. Attentive, friendly staff; larger, cleaner restaraunt, less cramping when busy; food was quick, prices great. Highly, HIGHLY recommend. Can't wait to go back!!
Benito
Fantastic restaurant and fantastic xiao long bao at reasonable prices. A highly recommended dish is the wonton's in chilli/peanut butter oil.

Had the worst dining experience here. Particularly rude male waiter with attitude that made this experience horrible. Didn't acknowledge us, spoke back and was overall rude. Really disappointed by lack of training of staff in customer service. Overheard another waiter call rude waiter. Manager should reconsider hiring staff who cannot cope in a busy restaurant where the main aim is to give customers not only a delicious experience but also a positive customer service experience. Respect your customers and they will not only respect you, return for food but also pass on your good name. Disrespect your customers and the opposite happens. Will never go again duly because of this poor experience. I will stick to New Shanghai for better dumplings and better customer service. <br/>
Steph
Hands down the best dumplings on chapel street. Very clean unlike most dumpling restaurants and staff are good. One meal come out really fast however the second one took about 15mins to come out. Great price.

Now this chophouse becomes another favourite in my list.the food was just fabulous, everything was perfect.they have lots of options which is really helpful for the first timers.the place is nice, well maintained & quite spacious.though I don't know whether this cuisine is budget friendly or not but I definitely want to grab some more items from this joint.

My colleagues and I frequent Shanghai Street dumpling in Windsor for takeaway. The one time our entire team decided to go in and eat together at the restaurant - we received the rudest service from your waiter.<br/><br/>We walked in around 1:45pm on the 6/11/15, and two of your waiters who weren't busy attending to other patrons completely ignored us and did not offer us a table for a substantial amount of time. <br/><br/>It wasn't until my colleague called out to this rude waiter that we are then seated. We are seated for a while and were not given any menus to look at so when the rude waiter brought over cutlery and serviettes, I asked him if he could also bring us some menus – which is a understandable request. He looked at me with the most irate expression on his face and exasperatedly said: “I was just putting this down alright? I'm just putting this down first.”<br/><br/>My colleagues and I were all stunned. We all looked at each other bewildered and wondered what had provoked let alone warranted such negative attitude towards us.<br/><br/>I was so embarrassed that my colleagues (who were mostly Caucasian) had to experience this awful and abhorrent customer service from your waiter. <br/><br/>The manager of your Windsor franchise and the rude waiter arrogantly told me to go right ahead when I told them I would be writing a negative experience online about on your restaurant - they didn't apologise nor seem to care about trying to keep a positive customer experience.<br/><br/>To the owners of Shanghai Street Dumpling - in this age where a restaurant’s reputation heavily relies upon the digital landscape and the referrals of others, you need to carefully consider who it is you are hiring to represent your restaurant and brand - because at the moment, your employee and the manager you have hired is destroying the reputation of your business. I will never visit Shanghai Street Dumpling again and will be passing on this message to all family and friends.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE<br/><br/>Went here twice. First time was ok - very average , the second time out of convenience we went here but I GOT FOOD POISONING. <br/><br/>I have spent the last 2.5 hours vomiting after eating Xiao Long Bao Dumplings and Mongolian Beef with Rice. Dont go here.

Great food ok service. Food came out really fast . Fair price for chapel street Windsor. You must try have dumplings and the soups I'd come back<br/><br/>
Nicholas Hammer
Dined there with a few friends. My meal did not come. Asked about my meal three times and received the same response "sorry it's coming."<br/> After 40 Minutes I left hungry as the table I was dining with had already finished their meals. <br/>Wait staff did nothing to expedite my meal nor attempt to rectify the situation when I left. Poor attitude and poor service.

Best dumplings I've had in Melbourne. Quick service. Awesome dumplings. Well priced. Good setting. Awesome dumplings. Watch out din tai fung.
Ben Crowe
Best pork dumplings on earth! Chilli chicken fried rice is also amazing. Amazing feed for limited cost also. Not expensive and good sized meals. 12 fried dumplings for under 10 bucks cant go wrong
Fainzee
Alright. I've tried the Xiao long bao and they are okay. I personally would recommend the boiled dumplings more than the fried ones as the dumpling skin is a bit too thick to have a good texture when fried. And I would also recommend the veggie dumplings more than the meat ones but then again, I haven't tried all the meat options :) do love the boiled veggie dumplings and the staff are so lovely

Shanghai Street within the past couple months has opened up a second restaurant out on Chapel St near Jam Factory opposite San Churro. A huge restaurant in comparison to the original Shanghai Street with lines coming around the corner at lunch.

Good quality dumplings at reasonable prices. Nice to have this addition to Prahran, I come here often. Noodle dishes are average but the veggies and dumplings are definitely worth the visit. I'd recommend the steamed pork xiaolongbao and the Chinese broccoli with garlic.
Windsor Foodman
Been here twice now. The dumplings are great, especially the Peking Pork dumplings and the wontons in chili peanut and sesame sauce. The other dishes I've eaten have been passable but not exceptional. The fitout of the restaurant is about as boring as if gets and the service on both occasions has been on the worse side of average. But that's not what I go for. I go for awesome dumplings and Shanghai Street certainly delivers on that!
RedShoes
Yummy dumplings, attentive staff. Will go back!

Great staff, very attentive. Topped off my tea with a new glass every time I ran out. I had the chicken n prawn dumplings, (boiled 12 per serve), along with hot n sour soup. I live in the nth subs and frequent the Preston area for my Asian food, I have tried them all. I can tell you that these were the best dumplings I have eaten so far... The soup alone was a meal, I struggled to Finnish it all. After all that, my bill came to $16 bucks!
