Review Effie's Takeaway - Wodonga

What a great find! Driving back from Sydney I was dreading the usual limited highway offerings but thanks to google we discovered Effie’s just a few minutes diversion at Wodonga. It was a simple order, plain burger and minimum chips - but wow, were they good! Chip portion was enormous, hot, crispy and fluffy inside. Cooked to perfection. The burger was really good. Soooooo much better than McDonalds! Nothing fancy about the environment - it’s a fish and chip shop after all. The three hour drive back to Melbourne seemed somewhat less of an effort being sustained with a very yummy meal. I’m looking forward to my next drive up to Sydney, will definitely be stopping at Effie’s again!

We got takeaway here after reading all the great reviews. Honestly, I don’t know if they were just having a bad day or maybe it was the items we ordered, but it wasn’t enjoyable at all ☹️ I ordered a kids calamari pack for myself, and it was greasy and the chips were soggy and very blonde (ie. not cooked to crispy). I also ordered a small gravy and it was so thin, most of it dripped off my chip after dunking. I will however say the calamari was cooked well (no rubber bands there) 😊

I love Effies. Once upon a time, I lived around the corner, but these days further away, so often get delivery. Best chips in Wodonga and the burgers and steak sandwiches take a lot to beat.

Wait time CAN be a bit long but still far and away the best takeaway in Wodonga. Fantastic fish & chips and standout souvlaki. Yum!

Hands down best takeaway in Wodonga. Effie and co. are always super friendly and constantly smiling. Food always cooked to order and made to absolute perfection. Having done much travelling in my time I can safely say Effie's is and always will be the home of my favourite souvlaki Australia wide

Burgers nah burger sandwich with meat that fell apart tasted awful. Tossed in bin. Chips dry and not at all enjoyable tossed in bin. Seafood if thats what you call it disgusting tossed in bin. Not worth stopping at next.

Delivery driver very friendly. Food hot tasty and fresh. We will be back. I havnt been into the shop but am told it is a welcoming shop

A nice takeaway place with some great and resonably priced food! Service was warm and welcoming. If you're making your way from Canberra to Melbourne or the other way, this is a great place to refuel before continuing the loooong journey.

Best chicken Souvalakis this side of the border! Chips are great too :)
