Loved this Asian fusion smoke house great menu delicate and innovative presentation and flavours really enjoyed the Kingfish sashimi with mandarin and herbs and Katsu bbq smoked chicken and the Pork short ribs great sides and veggie dishes and wait staff very friendly and knowledgeable and interesting wine list and good desserts I would definitely recommend a visit and I will be back thanks

Yan Restaurant specializes in smoked meats with a Cantonese take on things. These guys have taken Cantonese food to the next level. Flavours is light and such care is taken to produce an amazing menu� Loving the smoked king prawns with seafood dipping sauce - it's slowly cooked and the prawn heads are to die for. *charred rare kingfish w/ Cantonese soy sauce - great spin to the classic fish dish and that char on the top � *cucumber w/ sesame dressing - dreaming of this right now *sauteed broccollini *smoked cumin lamb ribs - very tender and flavour is very delicate *smoked beef short ribs - very flavoursome *smoked chicken katsu - chicken is smoked then crumbed � *olive rice - so loving this too *lime meringue, lychee icecream and ice grapes - love the lime in the meringue *chinese doughnut - so soft and filled with red bean and green tea cream cheese. We had a lovely lunch at Yan restaurant today, all the food was spectacular and extremely delicious. The group of us tried almost everything on the menu and were very impressed with the chefs’ talents. Love the desserts esp the mandarin ice cream. Raymond and his staff were attentive and provided good service. Will definitely be back. Thank you for opening at lunch time (esp for parents with young kids like us). 5 stars well deserved.

Located in Wolli Creek, this food is hidden gems! Had lamb ribs, olive rice, and peanut butter bao ice cream for dessert. Really happy and satisified with the quality of food, service and hospitality. Staffs are very friendly. Will definitely come back and bring my friends and family to dine here! The feast makes me just want to come back for much more. Never tasted such great Yan (smoked meat) that melts in my mouth. Loves those unique freshly made ice cream desserts. Can't eat this in Singapore. Imagine feasting wagyu beef , lamb mussels and filled in a Chinese like dinner with great wines too.

We went there for our friend's recommendation and it didn't disappoint us at all. Foods are unique and excellent, staffs are very polite and friendly. The biggest surprise is the coconut jelly and ice cream that was made on spot, that's the best coconut ice cream that I have ever had!!

Hooray we have another great option locally! I went with 3 foodies and between us we got through much of the menu. One dish was so-so, everything else rocked, and a couple were outstanding. Service was friendly, professional and knowledgeable, prices reasonable, and we had a thoroughly good night out. We'll be back.

Had an amazing meal at Yan tonight. The food is sophisticated and absolutely delicious without being pretentious. The service was warm and friendly, and we'll definitely be coming again. I recommend the silken tofu, the pork, and the coconut dessert.

Yan is definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Sydney! The beef, chicken and the mussels were absolutely amazing. Yan’s talented chefs just take Asian cuisine to another level. Highly recommended !!!!!

Tofu, squid, pear & cucumber sides were unique and absolutely fantastic. The mains - pork, and mussels went brilliantly with olive rice and steamed buns... and we finished with a blast with the Coconut 3 Ways dessert. Ideal for groups of at least 3 persons so you can order heaps and enjoy the best of everything!

The flavours were amazing and so well balanced. The waiting staffs were knowledgeable about their menu and helpful. It was also really reasonably priced for high class dishes. I will definitely come back, especially for the delicious wagyu ���

Amazing food!! Delicious smoked meats, tangy salads and those mussels and sauce were to die for. Really friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back.

I found this little gem via Instagram - it’s a Japanese fusion smokehouse restaurant. The restaurant was quite busy and the food came out quite quickly!

The highlight for night was definitely the deep fried squid, it was delicious and had an intense umami flavour, this dish must be eaten with rice as it was so flavourful! The crispy chicken had a great smokey flavour and quite big - it could definitely feed 3 people.

If you are interested in a cute Japanese restaurant that’s not in the CBD but quite modern, this restaurant is perfect!

The service wasn’t too bad as we kept trying to get The staffs attention but I did understand it was busy, my overall experience was 7/10.

Great upper class dining in the St George area. Beef and pork ribs are the recommended meals for mine. Beer was cheap for the style of restaurant. Definitely get the beer to wash it down.

This is a really nice modern Asian fusion restaurant. My favourites were the kingfish sashimi, fried squid and pork ribs. Definitely also order the steamed baos on the side which were really soft and fluffy. For dessert, the coconut icecream was really good and comes served in a coconut. The restaurant gets very busy so best to make a booking beforehand.

This place is a must try in Wolli Creek. Before our dish arrives I felt the price is pretty high for the meal. Turns out to be very generous and rich flavoured. The texture of coconut icecream is amazing, dreamy and soft.

Unique dishes that push the boundaries of Chinese cuisine. Amazingly fragrant smokey flavours that are a theme to all the dishes. Must order the squid entree it’s out of this world. And of course the famous coconut dessert that’s a no brainer. It doesn’t disappoint and it’s dairy free! 🥳🥳

The coconut ice cream is really nice, beef rib is not bad, the fish tastes good, but may be it’s deep fried, the fish is a bit dry for me, if it’s steamed, I think it’ll be tender and juicy. Lamb and pork ribs are ok.

With Asian fusion/Modern Asian cuisine, all the dishes look stunning with beautiful plating. The chefs put a lot of attention & care into each dish, including desserts, actually especially with their desserts! 😍

Their smoked dishes are their signature dishes so we tried Pork & Beef ribs. Both were well rendered with a wonderful smoky flavour. The beef short ribs were meltingly good. Unfortunately the Fried squid was not my favourite, it was hard & the sauce was overly salty. 😬

Both desserts were delicious. Creamy coconut ice cream paired with coconut jelly & flesh scrapped from the young coconut, it’s a coconut lover’s dream dessert. The yogurt parfait was beautifully assembled, it had an awesome balance of texture, freshness & flavour. 😋

In additional to the great food, service was friendly & efficient. Portion sizes are relatively small for the price they charge for, but quality over quantity, will still recommend this place. 😌

Beautifully simple restaurant in Wolli Creek. There was a big table outside and a few smaller tables inside with a view of the open kitchen.

We got four dishes and a dessert for four of us and it was ok for small eaters. You'll want to order more if you have bigger eaters in the group.

Our lunch includes:
- smoked pork ribs - so flavoursome and smokey
- beef tenderloin with a mild spicy sauce - very tender meat with a lovely sauce which isn't spicy
- fried tofu with peanut and ginger sauce - tofu was silky inside and nicely fried. The sauce was delicate and tasty
- fried squid - the squid was so tender and not chewy at all
- lychee parfait desert - delicious and light
- the meal included complimentary cabbage salad and rice

The only reason for the rating was that there were so many things on the menu that wasn't available. We all really wanted to try the coconut dessert!

An amazing Asian fusion restaurant hides in Wolli Creek. Better to book online in advance, cz this place is kinda busy during dining hours. We ordered three different ribs, pork, beef and lamb. I'll say all three were delish, but the pork ribs was stunning. A little smoking flavour with sweet and thick sauce, what a match. And the coconut ice-cream was a must try. The ice-cream was a dream, creamy and full of coconut flavour. And u can also enjoy it with coconut jelly and coconut fruit. There were not many staff even during peak hour, but they were all very nice, Absolutely, enjoyed my meal there.

I’ve been to Yan twice now and it is definitely one of my favourite places to eat at for asian cuisine (if not my favourite). I highly recommend it as food is 10/10, smoked mains, modern twists on asian flavours and lovely presentations. They also seem to change up the menu regularly as both times I went, there were different starter dishes.
Service, too, is top notch. Staff converse with you, ask for feedback on food, and we were even given complimentary dishes.
Prices are slightly pricier than your average asian place. But it’s worth every cent.

-charred kingfish
-olive rice

Wow. Just wow. Absolutely amazing food came here as a group of 6 and we were accomodated outside (as the restruarant itself is quite small) Ordered a bit of everything and tbh it was all delicious and exceeded expectations by far. Definitely give the smoked beef and brussel sprouts a try! Its a winning combo. Restruarant staff and owner were very friendly and even allowed us to borrow an umbrella when the storm hit. We will be back!

With the rapid expansion upwards in many Sydney suburbs has come many new places to dine at the bases of these residential towers. In amongst the chains, who decide on location based upon predicted population growth, you’ll find some independent beauties by young restaurateurs, like Yan Restaurant. Yan is nestled deep in the soulless high-rise canyons of Wolli Creek. From the outside it’s a fairly spartan glass box with a long open kitchen and a warm glow emitting from rectangular rice paper lanterns. It’s furnished with comfortable Scandinavian-style chairs and dark timber tables, though just shy of their second birthday their varnish is already a little the worse for wear. The only decoration are jade green tiles with an interlocking Chinese-inspired pattern, which run along the lengthy stainless steel counter. Against this fairly spartan backdrop and alienatingly empty streetscape, your attention is directed on the people who inhabit the space. Yan has been a hidden gem for about a year now, but its inclusion in the 2019 Good Food Guide and its immediate elevation into one-hat status shows it truly belongs among the Sydney elite.
The food is Modern Asian and their specialty is smoked meats, and they deliver in spades on that count, from the signature smoked chicken katsu to the pork ribs to the charred brussel sprouts. On top of that, their sole rice dish is a unique olive rice which mixes olives, spring onions, sesame seeds, and rice; its combination lends a salty and moreish complement to any of the restaurant's other excellent dishes.
Yan is by far the best restaurant in gentrifying Wolli Creek and one of the best Modern Asian restaurants in any part of Sydney.

This newly-1hatted modern Asian restaurant is a winner. Come here for some innovative flavours and memorable dishes that not only look good, but taste phenomenal.

Try the delicious olive rice and smoked pork ribs and don't forget the coconut dessert.

With a sister store, Montague in Woolloomooloo, the owners have a really good sense of what the customers want.

As a newly hatted place, you may need to book ahead, but it's worth it.

A must when I'm in Sydney!

Ordered the lamb ribs with spicy pepper eggplant for lunch, which comes with a rice and cabbage salad. The lamb ribs are chargrilled with a smoky flavour and very flavourful, while the eggplant adds texture and acts as a delicious foil to the more salty, gamey flavour of the lamb. Would love to come again. Only downside is ventilation is horrible - I came out of the restaurant smelling like my new favourite dish after less than half an hour.

Really loved this restaurant. Make sure you make a booking.

We tried the cucumber with sesame dressing - this was quite a large portion and the dressing was of the goma style. The pork ribs were a highlight, deliciously tender and a little sweet. We also tried the kingfish crudo which is a cold dish. The fish was fresh and flavors were nice but we couldn't taste the fermented soy bean.

Between the two of us, we had one main, one side dish and one starter dish. This was the perfect amount for us. Very much looking forward to returning and trying other dishes.

Fusion Asian finally with a banquet menu suited to both vegetarians and omnivores. Michelin star flavours with mid priced menu. Suggest to get a few friends to try all their special dishes inducing the brussel sprouts, pork, olive rice etc. Their desserts are fantastic too. We had a great meal. Overall worth the uber ride to try something out of this world

Had an amazing dinner with 7 other people on a Sunday night and Ray and the team did not fail to disappoint. All dishes were beautifully flavoured and the pretty hard for me to choose a favourite. I tend to find a lot of Asian places don’t do desserts well but Yan have the most mouth watering desserts! Well done.

Excellent local restaurant serving modern chinese food with smoked accents. My daughter loves their fresh made bao buns there, and i love just about everything else. The owner/chef is lovely and does a great job at delivering great quality food and service.

Best Asian fusion food I have ever had. Ray and his crew never disappointed us! If you are seeking for high quality food at a fair price with a 5star customer service, you must try Yan! It's nice to go somewhere that their people are real passionate about their food and provide an excellent service! Food was too tasty and we just smashed them all before taking any photos haha!

The short-lived, yet much-loved cafe of Ms Murray has seen a sad year pass since she closed her doors. Although the memories of her silky pea volute and coddled egg live on, the dust has now settled and the creative energies have been well spent in the kitchen executing what is a simple yet satisfying menu here at Yan, whilst owners Raymond Lim and Narada Kudinar continue to tend to Woolloomooloo's John Montagu from afar. Yan in Cantonese is 'smoke', defining the new venture as fusion between asian and american smokehouse - delivering a clean cut, simple experience with top quality food.

Came here following a strong recommendation by a colleague. Wasn't overly impressed when we were seated without a menu for a while but as soon as the waiter came around, I changed my opinion. He was warm and friendly and took the time to explain the menu. We ordered the pear and cucumber slaw, cumin lamb, pork belly, lychee soda and a tiger beer. The slaw and lamb were delicious and I could eat many bowls of each. The pork belly pieces were small and fatty, which might work for most people but I don't like fat. The bill came to $60 which is expensive for the portion size, but the food has good flavours and I would go back.

I was here with work colleagues part social part farewell as I left the where I was working not long after this.The food was amazing. The stand out item for me was the cold tofu dish. I had never had cold tofu and the dish wad amazing with the flavours.The staff are welcoming, friendly and very helpful.We did byo as they did not have a license but this may have changed.Would highly recommend making the effort to get out to Wolli and have a meal at Yan.

Yan Restaurant is a hidden gem amongst the concrete jungle of apartments in Wolli Creek. I've never really ventured around this part of town, but the promise of delicious smoked meats has my vote for a low-key birthday dinner. It's all about share dishes at Yan, perfect as we are a group of nine, so we order one of everything on the menu, with doubles and triples of the ones we find most appealing. The dishes are in no particular order, they just come out all at once: the great benefit of sharing dishes amongst the table.

Yan restaurant is the newest creation from the brains behind John Montagu and Ms Murray (recently closed down). "Yan" literally means "smoke" in Chinese, and this pretty much gives you a good idea of what the restaurant has to offer. The menu covers a nice selection of smoked meat with Asian inspired flavours. Being "meat lovers" and fond of smoked meat, we thought we must come and try this new restaurant given it's previous good track record.

Food: Delicious, new flavours. Small menu = order everything to try. I recommend the tofu, rice, lamb, squid, pear and cucumber slaw, lychee soda and both desserts. Pretty much everything.

Service: Friendly, attentive, talkative

Ambience: Small yet cozy with an open kitchen, chatter competing with the music playing. And walked out smelling like smoke!
